"If you didn't have a chance to look this up. It might have been a bit confusing to you but today we have another nickname type situation happening with king azariah of judah he also goes by the name use ziya when we read about them in second kings. He's as araya but when we read about him in second. Chronicles he's ziya. He's just taken over after his father's death and we don't hear much about him except that he's a pretty good king high places notwithstanding because there is still standing but then things take a turn after his people maybe invent the catapult and a series of military victories making rich and famous. Azariah grows prideful. He decides he wants to burn incense in the temple in jerusalem which is a big no. No unless you're a priest. When the text describes this by saying he was unfaithful to the lord his god. It uses the same word that is often used for marital unfaithfulness. The actual priests are aghast and eighty one of them including one who shares the name azariah rush into rebuke him but he's unrepentant and when he grows angry with the priests god's strikes him with leprosy. What's interesting to me about. This text is that it seems to indicate he never actually lights the sensor to burn the insects. They stop him before he can. And if that's true then even though he doesn't physically commit the sin here his heart is still set on it so when god strikes him with leprosy it really seems like the motives of his heart. Or what's being judged here. He has to leave the temple immediately to prevent defiling it and after this. He lives in a separate house because of the cleanliness laws. We read about in leviticus thirteen. He likely either stopped performing the roles of king when he became ill or co rain with assange them until joe them officially took over for him joe. Them was considered to be a good king. Mostly walking in god's ways but you guessed it those high places in judah are still as untouched as ever meanwhile in israel we quickly moved through five kings. Most of whom kill the previous king. These short-lived kings and the way they're rains and show us how the kingdom of israel is really on the decline. This shouldn't surprise us though for two reasons first. Not only do we know that. God's promises connected to the other kingdom. The southern kingdom of judah the line of david but we also got a little heads up from god that there was a deadline for the northern kingdom of israel. We read a reminder of this today in fifteen twelve but we i read it a few days ago in second kings ten thirty when god said to jay who. Because you have done well in carrying out what is right in my eyes and have done to the house of ahab. According to all that was in my heart. Your sons of the fourth generation shall sit on the throne of israel. So now we have all these short-term wicked kings cropping up and it's become really evident that we've crossed that fourth generation threshold and the northern kingdom seems to be unraveling today. My god shot came from the incident in the temple. Where god struck azariah us ziya with leprosy. The first thing that struck me was god's holiness he refused to let the king defile his temple. The second thing i realized about this was how efficiently and thoroughly god handled that situation. He punished azariah zayas rebellion while effectively stopping him from lighting the incense and ensuring that he had to leave the premises and not return and he toppled him as king without even killing him which is also merciful. So many of god's attributes are on display in this one scene not to mention the kind of wisdom it takes to come up with something that works on so many levels righteous efficient thorough merciful wise. "Time running out for anyone who may still be alive in the rubble of a 12 story condo that collapsed last week in Surfside, Florida near Miami. So far, the death toll stands at 10. With more than 150 unaccounted for. Since Thursday's disaster, Here's a B C S. T. J. Holmes officials identified four more victims overnight among them 26 year old Luis Bermudez. And his mother as the desperate search for survivors enters its fifth day cruise and officials working around the clock, refusing to give up hope. We just need a few more miracles each day, more than 150 still unaccounted for crews digging a trench 125 FT. Long 20 FT wide and 40 ft deep to help with the search. And rescue teams arriving from Israel and Mexico to support the operation 6 to 8 squads scouring the massive destruction at any given time, poring through the rubble left behind after this horrifying moment of collapse. This whole section of the Champlain Towers south Now gone, 12 stories pancake into the ground the way the building collapsed, leaving some hope that voice or pockets of air could form in the rubble. Large enough for someone to survive. I would think for the next month we could be Holding out hope and trying to get through the entire wreck. And now new questions about the Champlain Towers. The city of Surfside releasing documents from 2018, estimating the cost was $9.1 million to address issues raised in the 2018 report that found major structural damage to the concrete below the pool deck, including failed waterproofing. An engineering report from that same year identified significant structural damage to some parts of the building. 26 Year-Old Male Dead After Multiple Shots Fired in Liberty City
"26 year" Discussed on The Bible Recap
"Today we dug back into the wisdom of solomon and as usual. He covers a lot of ground. So i'm just going to touch on a few things that stood out to me or that. Have the potential to be confusing chapter. Twenty five encourages us not to be presumptuous in relationships with others and it covers a variety of relationships. I we shouldn't elevate our level of importance with others. Wisdom helps us stay low and in the same way that wisdom doesn't esteem itself wisdom also doesn't degrade others or their motives when it doesn't know the whole story that requires humility to and patience versus nine to ten encourage us in wise behavior when we have a problem with someone else. The passage reminds us that we should talk about our problems with the person we have the problem with not everyone else that requires humility. And patience too. And i fifteen tells us what great power. The humble patient tongue can wheeled. It says with patience. A ruler may be persuaded and a soft tongue will break a bone patience and humility. Have a more powerful impact and being forceful and arrogant much of the rest of the proverb offers wisdom on self control and how that ties into humility it urges self control and everything from how much we eat in verse. Sixteen to how often we visit our neighbor in verse seventeen. The general theme is that too much of a good thing as a bad thing. Self control also guides us in seemingly minor areas like what words we say to a grieving person or how we treat our enemies in verse. Twenty four we have a proverb that similar to others. We've read before it. Says it is better to live in a corner of the house. Top than in a house shared with a quarrelsome wife. The other verses we read said it's better to live in the desert or that. This woman is like a constant dripping. Salman had a lot of wive so he probably had his fair share or his unfair share of quarrelsome wives. He knows of which he speaks. And again this passage could be applied to either gender but solomon rightly assumed that most of his readers in that day would be male regardless of gender. It takes a lot of self control not to be quarrelsome. And the chapter ends with a very clear statement on self control. A man without self control is like a city broken into and left without walls. A city without walls can be overtaken by any enemy. Doesn't have to be a powerful one solomon continues in proverbs twenty six. He describes the foolish man as being wasteful and worthless in verses. Four and five. We hit one of those sections. That can be confusing because the two verses seem to contradict themselves they say answer not a fool according to his folly lest you be like him yourself answer a fool according to his folly lest he be wise in his own is this is a good place to reiterate that proverbs is not a book of biblical laws. It's a book of general principles for wise living some situations call for one type of wisdom and some for another type of wisdom. We should take them both together because they complement each other. There will be times when a fool needs to be corrected and there will be times when correcting a fool will be a waste of your time and breath because he won't receive it. We have to have discernment to know which situation applies. This is a good example of how and understanding worked together with wisdom to foolish man on the other hand may speak words of wisdom but if you watch their lives they never grow or change. Accordingly they don't retain lessons they make the same mistakes repeatedly but they're not humble enough to care i twelve says. Do you see a man who is wise in his own is. There is more hope for a fool than for him. This verse is basically saying arrogance is worse than stupidity. Chapter wraps up solomon reminds us again of the power and importance of our words gossip and slander and even flattery can be wicked verse. Twenty eight says a lying tongue hates its victims and a flattering mouth. Works ruin. yikes today. My god shot came from twenty five to it says it is the glory of god to conceal things but the glory of kings to search things out sometimes god is more glorified and mystery than in revealing everything and sometimes the only reason we seek answers is because we're proud or impatient or just don't want to have to trust guide. The leaders among men are supposed to have all the answers but the ultimate leader of all mankind is the only one who truly does and sometimes he just isn't telling this is definitely humbling to us. But it's glorifying to god and anytime. He conceals things from us. We can rest assured that it's ultimately in our best interest. He doesn't play hide and seek with anything. We need to know to obey him. He's not cruel. He's intentional with all those details and with his timing and revealing them he knows what we need to know and he's wear the joyous. Okay bible readers. It's time for our weekly check in. how are you doing. What have you learned so far. If you're behind don't beat yourself up about it. You're probably reading more of the bible than you would on your own. Think about what you've learned so far. Reflect on what you've seen about god that you hadn't seen before you started this process hundred sixty nine days ago. Lean into these things. Ask him to grant you and increasing desire to know him more okay. We'll see you tomorrow..

You know there's not one of them. That's a paris hilton or a hunter biden. Or you know. I in the bunch or kim kardashian blowing some guide to make our family rich you know and then i don't i don't wanna dog. I don't want a dog like those type of people. But at the same time what i'm going to say is Anybody that's had like four plus five marriages. Don't sit there and try to have the moral high ground over anybody. Well no we look. Here's the here's the point. I'm trying to get his biden. Look at biden. Biden tries to change his own history. If you go into wikipedia again look a biden or jill biden and it says they met on a blind date in nineteen. I think it's seventy nine hundred and seventy five On a blind date set up by his brother. Okay and that's a lie. It's a lie. you know. Jill biden from delaware okay. I'm speaking because i know what happened. I'm from delaware. Jill biden was married to the owner of the stone balloon. Now anybody's heard about stone balloon. But it's a very famous rock and roll bar that you know. Bruce springsteen played at george thorogood and delaware destroyers came up through it. I mean they've had just major major bands. Come in play there and it's a and it's a small bar okay. But her husband own that you he. I think he's twenty seven. She was like twenty three or something other and he was a major campaign supporter of joe. Biden back then okay and him and geel worked with joe biden and in hand on the campaigns for a couple years you know and then it came to his light. That joe biden jill. We're having a fair One of her friends. I think told him and then he confronted her a and kicked her out and then her family tried to talk him into taking her back. I mean it just whole involved thing you know that happened. With joe biden and jill biden and her ex husband and and they changed it into a live or his political career where they rewrote history and said that they met on a blind date and nineteen seventy four got from her husband in one thousand nine hundred ninety thirty five jill and her husband got divorced nineteen seventy four because she was having an affair with joe biden. I think one of the most disgusting things i've seen recently is like after the whole quote unquote metoo movement was for bill clinton even though he was the president. Congratulations you were a president. But been the metoo movement. They still had him on the dnc open Like platform like when they were actually like having people i was like. Wow okay will screw the maze to movement..

"And i had been on guam. You know on a remote was one of those stories where you know. The husband gets sent away for two years remote door and you know his wife ends up. You know moving on without him knowing about it and you know you come back and you get divorced Anyway but we got divorced. Everything's amicable. I got the kids. everything's fine. I told her you can keep everything in house. I all i wanted my personal belongings. And you know and i offered the kids. I'll start over. You can have every and just weighed just wave your rights to my retirement and she did and i said and i said no no child support for the first year at all and then after that all i wanted to three hundred dollars a month jobs for kids which is nothing. That's that's not. That's not even a lot for one kid you that's basically nothing so she agreed to that but then after the year was up she didn't want to have to pay child support at all. So she drag me back into court threatening my retirement again And lower because time i was stationed in delaware and she was still in california and she had remarried to a military guy That was there that she was having an affair with house on a remote tour and They ended up getting married and he got kicked out of the service for stealing stuff. Why he was in the service he was much younger guy. Gosh i'm sorry to hear that about your divorce. And i'm sorry to hear that You know what irony is like she married somebody that actually was not as good of a person. Is you know no. He wasn't in and you know they're not married today. You know they're they're married for a few years and then they got divorced because he was not a good person But that's just a people to understand about the military you know and you say you know people always say you know we appreciate your service. we do. This is not really sacrificing your job. It is rising your job but you made a lot of sacrifices in your life to stay in the military. You're forced to move from place to place to place your all your relationships suffer relationships with your spouse with your kids because your sent away a lot of times when you're not with them and you know it's not always positive when you're away under. Let's turn us on a positive flip..

"Uninspired the smartest people in the world to withdraw dude. I played little league when i was a kid. Okay i i am so i feel so blessed to have grown up when i grew up a born in nineteen sixty three. You know when. I played little league. You know it was. It was a pride thing you played for your neighborhood. I grew up in wilmington manor gardens delaware. Okay it's a small community you know. They were all working class people. You know nobody nobody rich you know we. I went to the biggest high school in delaware But anyway with little league eight to twelve years old you. We all knew each other. We hong hung out with each other that we played our genes with all year long. Everybody knew everybody better than most people know people in their family. Today we played with each other. No matter what we were doing we were together. You new stars are going to be on the baseball team. Everybody didn't get a chance to play on the field. If you wanted to get a chance to field yet the practice harder and get better. That teaches kids. Something that teaches kids. You need to be able to work. You need to work your ass off to be able to play. And that's what like close to teach you the frontiers that was that was Getting the checkings. Happy getting a check. That's because i swear to god i mean to me. That was the worst thing that america ever did was put all these kids together in these one community You know the huge complex to play little league and they just put him on teams. Nobody knows each other. You know you just end up on a team. Because that's just the way they moved you on to a baseball team and then and then you have to go to this complex and play. You don't play for your neighbor. You don't play with your friends. There's no there's no pride in it there. I actually went to one of those but we. It wasn't a trophy for everyone but everybody will put in literally. Everybody gets a chance to play. They have to play them three innings of every game. It's a rule that might be the rule now but that wasn't when i grew better time but if you suck you shouldn't get the chance to play. What does you absolutely nothing. Nothing teaches that you get without giving. You didn't give any effort and you're getting everything that everybody else is getting. That's what america's like today. That's that's what all these riots are going on there. Were they want without giving.

If we go back to 2016, and we look at everything, the perfect storm that had to come together for Trump to win him, winning three states by a combined total of 70,000. It's not like this was a landslide or a mandate. It was a fluke. It was a confluence of things that otherwise never would happen. I don't I think that's gonna happen again. Too many people know who he is now. Well, it's still the electoral, but he's going to change. And the reason they Khun Dude, that is because Trump has what has become his own state. One propaganda ministry. Who does that for him? Like I said earlier. If Fox had existed, and right, we hate radio. When Nixon was president, he wouldn't have had to resign. What? I don't get it. People don't understand he would've ran under anybody's why they don't want imply it. Trust is a democratic. Tried is an independent. These people don't A vicious short term memories. I would contribute to Doug Bash so funny page and he's gonna put up a show today so we can keep your rough radio gold on the air. That's an idea. Yeah, I like it. I think you definitely should do it. And regarding the guy with the black girlfriends, just such a veteran song. I can't believe you let that fraud into your head. Well, I think the way I made fun of it after kind of show that I wasn't taking it completely seriously. I feel bad that I'm mentioning his name again. All of the only thing he deserved was to be hung up on that day. I would say this look, you know we're gonna have this is gonna be psychological warfare, and Trump is going to make us question everything. The venerable J. D from the Vegas take. He plays the game. He throws everything against the wall he spends it find supposed to drop by the race before September 1st. According to J D So Stay steady. They're going to pull all the tricks in the world every possibly 30 conniving tricks. Yeah, they're going to throw at us. Just say here's the bottom line. I hated Hillary Clinton. I hated her. I despise that woman. But I held my nose and voted for and I know millions and millions of people didn't do what I did. That's why we have trump. But Hillary still one by three million bucks, So we're going to kick this orange fraud. This maggot on something? Yeah, we're going to kick that. Stay strong. Stay the course. You know I'm trained to listen to people and, you know, he's as much of a Democrat as Trump is he's trying to come underneath and insults you. Well, in all fairness, Carl. In all fairness, I have seen that attack from Democrats for 20 years, and they're not Republicans in disguise. They are actual Democrats who just have this purity test. They have this high, you know, holier than now attitude there up on their high horse, and it's like if you don't confer. If you don't become or if you are not what they see that you should be, in other words, a mild mannered reporter for the great Metropolitan whose favor I mean, they they get a burr under there, but I still wouldn't that He's not a Democrat. I mean, I'll be honest with. Sadly I bet that he is Okay, well, which frustrates me even more. But I really called about is our friend Bannon, Another Fred Trump friend who Trump never heard of. "26 year and I did. I wasn't always to the left of center. And in fact, I used to believe in the in the nineties about the trickle down theory about too much government and then the closer I got to it, and I spoke to some really smart people around 2000 the first six or seven years. Of the new millennia, I realized that it was all a lie that you know. You look at the companies that have made money off the cove it, you know, I mean, you got Jeff Bezos is cos he's made like $40 billion since March. And and you start to look at things that you know. I think the point I'm trying to get to us is that I really think in some ways that Bernie and AOC represent where we will be in a few years and war we facing another Republican candidate other than this guy, we might give them more stage time. Put him up front. But I think pragmatism is a religion of the day and has to be blue jewelry. I would I was. I was a guest on a panel today with Progressive Democrats of America P D A. And there was, you know. Ah, discussion about tactics and strategy and all this, you know and have bemoaning the lack of Aggressiveness on the part of Biden and calm alone. My response was our fir against house is on fire. Our house is on fire. Let's not have a debate about what the furniture should look like, or what color we should paint the walls. Let's put out the damn fire and you know we've got to do that. First. We, You know we can. We can talk about how we're going to try to push. Joe Biden left writer center after he's president. But right now we've got a guy who who is a dime store version of Mussolini in the White House, and he's got a whole bunch of people around him who are enthusiastic about supporting him. They will do anything for money and power. And they're all get rich and they got a hell of a lot of power. We've got to put this fire out. I will, in my heart of hearts always hold Mitch McConnell responsible for allowing Trump to go. I checked. I think in every possible way, you know, I'm not allowing Bolton to testify, you know, and the impeachment trial? I mean, you know the most right of right people. It was obvious they were afraid of the truth and that the truth would would hurt their bottom line. You know, now also being funded by foreign oligarchs, handsome Kentucky. Well, not only that is Alain challenged, and her connection to the you know, but there's also you know the soft money that normally I forget the donor's a Russian donor, normal Russian American dual citizenship. He used to split it and in 2016, he gave it all to McConnell. What the soft money all went to McConnell and not to the Democrats. And you know that's a whole another thing about, you know, public financing of these elections that we know this is illustrated just that. You know, the citizens United put might have been the war Supreme Court decision since Dredd Scott. You know, I mean, I can't think of a worse one That's made it. You know, that made us also irrelevant to what happens in Washington and in our lives, you know? Well, you know it just it only built on in 1976 for the first time in the history of America. In a case called Buckley versus Valeo, the Supreme Court ruled that if a billionaire or a multi millionaire Wants to own a politician or even a number of politicians so completely that they literally follow the script that that billionaire gives them. We call it corruption. We used to call that bribery. They said no, it's neither. It's it's first matter protected free speech, Then two years later decision called First National Bank versus Blondie in 1978. The A. Lewis. Powell wrote the decision. The guy who wrote Paul member on 71 that kicked off the whole, you know that lead right to Reagan in 78. They extended that logic to corporations and said corporations can also own politicians. Infact a corporation can under an entire political party they want, and that set the stage for millions of dollars to flow into the Republican Party in 79, 80 and put Ronald Reagan in the White House, and it's been off to the races ever since. And we, you know, we've had two Democratic presidents would haven't pushed back against it. We've had Republican President so enthusiastically embraced it, including Trump, and it is the it is the core poison. And, you know, we had always good government reform after the Nixon bribery scandals in 74, you know Gerry Ford's administration and early in Carter's administration. But you know, the Supreme Court blew it all up, and it's it's become a crisis for democracy for our republic. Yeah, I was reading. I don't know. A couple years ago. I didn't know that fully. The story of Rutherford B. Hayes, who's Run for the presidency. The election threw it into the House of Representatives. Yeah, and black people at that time or running for Congress and you know they were moving forward, and he cut a deal with those Southern states and said, You vote for me in the in the House. Oh, and I'll get rid of that federal funding it elections and Jim Crow was in student invisible bonds of slavery for the next 100 years. I worry so much about what will happen if this guy's reelected..

"About who they are and what young put people need to get ahead. In the end, What is the long lasting effect of somebody who was in this state of disconnection in their twenties once they hit their thirties and forties? It's potentially lifelong. The most tragic case, of course, is if a disconnected young person remains. Disconnected as an adult, never reconnecting to school to work. I spoke to some advocates at a homeless shelter for youth and They say that you know, folks who work in adult homeless shelters recognized that the pipeline to chronic adult homelessness begins. If someone is homeless when they are 20 so that is theme, most dire circumstance that a young person confined themselves. Of a young person who is not connected now does manage to connect in the future. They still pay a lifelong price. Their wages are going to be less. Their likelihood of homeownership is going to be less. The likelihood that they're going to be working for time will be less measure. America calculated that you know it could be a highway $30,000 wage penalty 15 years down the line. For someone who is disconnected in those early years. And when you think about Your own first job, you know, and what you did between the ages of 18 and 24 16 and 24 to get that earlier experience to find those first mentors. First bosses. It really does make a difference. Those connections you make it very hard as a 26 year old to get that first job. You know that That's goingto let you into my past to those early years were so critical. And for too many people there being wasted again. The name of an Kim's new book is abandoned America's lost youth and the Crisis of disconnection. Some of the most successful students don't feel good about their accomplishments. They feel like imposters. That's the topic of today's academic minute. Do you feel like a phony? I'm Dr Lin Pascarella, president, the Association of American Colleges and Universities and today on the academic minute Kevin Coakley, distinguished teaching professor at the University of Texas at Austin, examines why college students often feel like they don't belong. During the academic year, many students will experience heightened and positive feelings in academically competitive and stressful college environments. The impossible nomine on often referred to in the popular press as the Imposter syndrome. Is the sense among high achievers of feeling intellectually phony and fraudulent. While high achievers are typically thought of as individuals who have excelled academically, in many ways, college attendance retention. And graduation make students high achievers, Given that more than 20% of freshmen do not return for a second year, research has found that impostor feelings negatively impact the mental health of college students. Increasing feelings of depression and anxiety. Students who feel like an impostor have difficulty internalizing their accomplishments. They see themselves as incompetent and believe they have fooled others into seeing themselves as intelligent and accomplished. I'm positive feelings have been linked to maladaptive perfectionism or excessive high personal standards and postures and perfectionist are similar in that they are both given to excel. They differ in that perfectionists are given by an internal pressure of having high standards, while impostors are driven by an internal experience of intellectual phoniness and self doubt. My research has found that in positive feelings are especially salient among students of color, However, it is important to keep in mind that students of color are not monolithic. For example, my research has found that agent American students tend to have higher feelings of impossible ism. An African American and let the next student's. Additionally we found a stronger impact of perceived discrimination on the positive feelings among African American and Latino ex students. Professors can address and pasta is, um, among students of color by including books and articles written by scholars of color, discussing the contributions of scholars of color in your field and having meetings with students of color and affirming your belief in their potential and deserve it Nous to be there that was Kevin Cokely of the University of Texas at Austin. That was my assumption because she I wanted to wear heels. And she's like, Oh, how tall he was he planning on wearing and I think about four inches and she's like you're gonna have to bring some flat. Yes, Why would I have to bring some flat? Definitely a winery. I think it's got to be a winery. Cause that's an outdoor thing is socially distant, safe thing to do, sitting at a table away from other people. You like wind, Toby, I think you're onto something. We're forgetting the most important reason why I think it's a winery. Most wineries are insta fabulous when it comes to the views on the scenery that makes for great backdrops with photos and we are talking about producer Kayla writes, honestly and my best My San Always knows that it has to be aesthetically pleasing.
