"20th year" Discussed on The Rich Eisen Show

"And to basketball world has waited sure as the tractors and haters have waited very patiently for him to have some sort of decline and steep drop off and he's held off father time for so long now and what he's doing in his 20th year is remarkable. It's remarkable. And he's in some ways the same way that Tom Brady did it at the quarterback position. LeBron has reset the standard for playing at a high level into your late 30s. I don't think there's any player that has played at this level in their 20th year. JJ real quick about nikole jokic. Can you just put in perspective kind of what we're seeing here? And is it realistic that he could win a third straight MVP for the first time since Larry Bird? Just realistic. Look, I am a fan of analytics and advanced stats. I'm a fan of the eye test. I watched that guy play and it's clear that he's one of the three or four best basketball players in the world. By the way, we have a lot of three or four best basketball players in the world. I think we have more than three or more players in the world. That doesn't mean the talent pool and the league is right now. That game the other night that was on TNT. And I'm just amazed at mind. The closures plays in a way that he knows everything that could potentially happen in a given play. And then he just makes the right play every time. There's no overthinking, there's no agenda. It's like he has slowed down time and it has gotten ahead of everyone else. Everyone else is working at a different pace than him. And he is able to just orchestrate and make plays. If they end up, yes, they end up a top two seat in the west, he's going to have a really good chance at winning his third straight MVP. Yeah, do you think they are the favorite in the west and is this finally the year that the nuggets go on a deep playoff run? Because that's kind of been the thing the last couple of weeks. They're not the favorite in the west. The west has a lot of really good teams. I don't think there's going to be the separation at the top that I think you're eventually going to see. And you have seen a little bit in the east with Boston, Milwaukee, Cleveland also is a really good basketball team. Now the nets are playing great basketball as well. But in the west, there's just too many really good teams. And I don't actually have a favorite in the west, but the team that I think has a really good chance is Memphis Grizzlies. They've played great basketball. They're currently tied for first. They were 9 and three with I had question marks last year to playoffs about them sort of needing a second star along with Ron morant and Desmond in those 12 games proved that he can be that guy. So if he's healthy and jaren Jackson continues to play at the level on both ends of the floor that he's playing at right now, I think Memphis has a really good chance to come out west. And how fun is it watching the pelicans play and finally seeing Zion kind of live up to all that pre draft type? Yeah, I mean, look, it's hard as a basketball fan, somebody who watches games every single night not to have a favorite team to tune into. Yeah, right. I have some favorite teams. The pelicans are one of them. Grizzlies are another. I love watching the warriors play with Steph Curry. The pelicans are such a deep team. And this is where I think they have potentially a real advantage in the playoffs because they have a number of players that could play football positions positions. One game, one series you may want to play heavy drop coverage with Jonas spelling Tunis. Maybe the next series you need more of Larry dance and the ability to switch down to perimeter players. Maybe you need Jose alvarado to play in a night and be a pest of the defensive end. And then they have the wings with Trey Murphy and Brandon Ingram and herb Jones. This is just a really deep team and a fun guy. By the way, I named all those guys. I didn't mention Zion who is playing an unbelievable level. I mentioned the talent pool in the NBA. By the way, I just want to point this out just because I have the numbers in front of me. So on Christmas Day, we've got the 5 to 5 guys who have the best odds to win MVP on drafting sports. We've got all of them playing. We've also got LeBron James. We've also got John morant. We were supposed to get Steph Curry. We were supposed to get Anthony Davis, Zion has even been playing on Christmas. I think about how many great players are in the league right now. It's a great time to be an NBA fan. Well, there's 7 guys averaging 30 points a game. Like, we haven't seen that in a long, long time. Now, and Shay Gil just Alexander, who the casual basketball fan is probably not that aware of. Like, he's another guy who could potentially be an all NBA all star guy in Oklahoma City this year. And they're a pesky team. Them, Houston, Orlando. They don't have great records, but they play good basketball every night and have the chance to beat anyone. Hey, JJ, TJ here. I just want to maybe switch focus to the college game real quick and myself personally is a duke fan. What do you think college sports and more specifically duke basketball is going to look like without coach Kay room in the sidelines for the first time in nearly 50 years? Yeah, it's interesting because coach retired during a very interesting transition period for all of college athletics with NIL and the transfer portal. I've had a number of college coaches say to me, you know, you recruit a kid to sign the kid signs and then you've got to recruit them to stay at the year. And so that's a really, that's a really different dynamic. That college sports have existed in the way that they've existed is because the coaches and the schools and the conferences and the NCAA have had complete control over the players and over the last few years because of NIL because of the transfer portal. They have lost a great amount of control. And so I don't know how or when the transition period ends. And sort of what that looks like. But I think we're going to see a lot of different things happen over the next 5 years, 7 years, whatever it may be. Specifically to duke, I think John Shire is in a great position, he knows the school. He knows the program. He's a great basketball mind. He's clearly a great recruiter. Duke specifically this year's team, I tuned in for a few games. I think with lively and Whitehead being in and out of lineup and being hurt, I think it's really hurt them and they're young. But they certainly have some talent to make some noise in the tournament. You can see them calling that sixers Knicks game on Christmas. You can listen to them on the old man and three podcasts. JJ Redick thanks a lot for the time, man. Thank you guys. I appreciate it. Great conversation with

Doug Reflects on Biden's Withdrawal From Afghanistan

"Earlier last year make the call that we were going to be completely out by September 11th, 2021 to 20th year anniversary of 9 11 and really made no qualifications on it. He said, we're just simply going to be gone. During that time, we saw the Taliban begin to make their way back across country. We saw the Afghan army, which was supposedly very well trained, which it was not, which we put a lot of money into. We gave $70 billion in equipment, which was the Afghan army, which is interesting to say, you know, the discussion is that that was left by us. Well, it was not left by us. We had already given it to that army to the Afghans. What we found out was they didn't know how to use it and couldn't use it. So maybe we should have destroyed most of it before we left instead of letting it go into the Taliban hands. Again, different topic different podcasts, but I think these are the things that we see on the run. One of the things that we saw even as they closed on Kabul is we dropped out of the Bagram air base as we came back into Kabul. We saw the loss of life in American military that was over there trying to get out people. We saw people getting out, they shouldn't have got out. We saw people that should have been got out got left. Again, just a complete debacle. What is often missed in this was the discussion by many of us who were saying, this is the Taliban coming back to strength even stronger than they were before 22,001, in which they were a haven and we're already seeing this again. We were having for terrorist organization that were terrorists for Al-Qaeda, haven for ISIS. We saw this happening over and over and over again. Here's what bothers me and we were beginning to see it over the year. We were told by the Biden administration that we will use all diplomatic realms and we'll do everything we can to make sure that they live up to the norms of the rural society. Well, where is that pressure? I mean, it doesn't seem to be applying. I understand it's not easy. I'm not saying that Joe Biden can wave a magic wand and make the Taliban in Afghanistan do anything he wants. I mean, he's already gave up all that leverage. I get it.

"Women who can't you know access water and and have a thriving environment. So if we're really looking to tackle What's happening. It's investing equally on public service on the social welfare of the communities because then that would automatically disabled or diminish that void. That's their around Putin around radicalization. So, with the number of jihadist groups on the rise on the continent has America's war on terror in Africa felt a question for Simon Panetta as a beautiful counter terrorism. At the U. S State Department. I wouldn't couch it in terms of failure or success. Isis, for example, do not exist 20 years ago, But Isis is very much a presence in Africa that we're seeing. I'm not sure that that's a failure of the United States and the security posture. Mr Panetta says the United States is committed. To fighting violent extremism on the continent. But as the war on terror reaches its 20th year, there are growing calls for a change to some of the tactics used. Catherine Blair, a hunger reporting This news day from the BBC World Service. Will Pollard and James Connell let me give you a couple of our main headlines, An international survey of young people has revealed widespread anxiety about climate change with as you may have heard earlier, many saying they believe humanity is doomed. And President Biden's nuclear envoy who is in Tokyo to discuss North Korea's missile program, has said the door is open for talks with Pyongyang. We're gonna talk sports, though. Now with Isaac Famine Yeah, it's a big night of Champions League football. Standout game is between Barcelona and buying Munich and joining me from outside the company. Now is a football journalist. Carlo Topic. Morning, two year How are you? Good morning, while it's beautiful, beautiful view here in the stadium stadium where we'll see a big match tonight and a match. I think where a lot of people have in mind what happened last time when both sides played against each other. Yeah. I mean, it was 82. I remember watching that quarterfinal, which is in Portugal the year of course, where we had the Champions League interrupted by Covid. And it was played in Portugal. Will there be some scar tissue for Barcelona and with regard to that match up two years ago? Well, I think that this matches as a lot of the mind of the fans and the players and the officials of Barcelo and I talked to a lot of guys here a lot of people and guys yesterday and then they say, yes, of course, the event in mind, and there's a Catalan word. It's called the Hansa. So that means revenge. That's what they want. They want to wipe that out. How can you wipe 82 Um out of your of your mind so that that really hit Barcelona. The pride of the Catalans were hit batch by the team of buy in Munich. They want to win, but they know that it's a tough one. I think they are a little afraid. Not that we'll see another big victory by buying but that they cannot beat by I mean, one way of kind of wiping away that memory of that big defeat is just getting rid of all the players. I mean, boss liner. I think they've gotten rid of 11 players, including Lionel Messi, who is not going to be playing in a Champions League for Barcelona since for the first time since 2000 and three. I mean, what's by Munich mindset sort of coming into this match. What? I think Thomas Miller. He rounded it up very, very smart set. To be honest, I have no idea and I think that's what most people are thinking. They don't know what we expect. The Julian Edelman, Beyonce coach yesterday, the press conference, he said. Barcelona is with even without messy. It's still a big team and was all the problems with with the 1.3 Billion. Being in depth with was all the problems with the fights between the president and the coach. Barcelona is a big name. Barcelona is a big team, but no one knows what to expect tonight of that site against by Munich. Barcelona played maybe against Dafa. But they never faced without messy and without all the big names an opponent like by a Munich. So the new one for Barcelona and the thing that team is not ready yet. Um, to play against such a bigger permanent will be interesting to see. I mean, there's been a lot of change at buying as well. Obviously you mentioned you in Nagel Zeman. He's only just started in the world Housing settled into the job as buying manager. I know it comes with a lot of pressure. At what he had A he had a tough start. He lost almost all of the of the preseason games because of the European Championship by Munich has a lot of Boop topic. I think we moved. Not yet. Sorry We're gonna Yeah, we lost your, uh, for a second if you say that again. Oh, sorry. Yeah, not. Goldman had a tough start because he missed a lot of players in the preseason. But now where he gets the players where he has a time to work together with Sandusky's and the Millers and the robberies and the kidneys and all the big names Now this team comes together. They understand his system. He plays a clear system if they showed it last weekend against love to your team so by a music now is coming to assist. Adults, man. They are very strong that they have a lot of confidence after the last matches in the Bundesliga. Um I think we we we leave the better by music. And just really briefly. I mean, does the German team have a chance to win the Champions League? Obviously, if you look, the English sites are incredibly strong this year, but Real Madrid and Barcelona This is probably the year in which the title really is up for grabs because they won't be exactly as strong as they have been. Canada German team potentially win the Champions League this season. Will it be buying? I think I think by always said chance. It depends what part? Paris has a lot of names a lot of big names, But do they have a team? Can they work together as a team? All the other As you said, the English sides Very strong, but it's Champions League. Um, UK Everything can happen. I think we'll see about bio Munich going to the semifinals. But then what's going on there? I have no idea. Well, we will call you Nostradamus. If, uh, I mean it do get to the semifinal. Taufik, topical football journalist who is outside the company. Looking forward to watching that massive game between Barcelona and by Munich later on today, I will be watching you might hear a very tired before presenter tomorrow Morning, Founding. Thank you. Many thanks. Also, Thanks for listening. Terry in Chicago Who brings together two of our subject, sports and weather, saying it's going to be too hot, miserably hot to watch college football at.

"And President Trump coming into town. On September 11th surprising great men and women in blue in the New York Police Department at a precinct and then going to the F D. N y at one of the station houses. And he also put out a video statement where he held nothing back and he slammed President Biden for the pullout of Afghanistan. Take a listen This is the 20th year of this war and should have been a year of victory and honor and strength. Instead, Joe Biden and his inept administration surrendered in defeat. So rendered in defeat. Is that how you feel that this is going to have repercussions for years? Upon years Upon years, the number is 1 808 489 to 2 to 1 808 489222 Here's a little bit more about President Trump and kind of hinting. That he's going to be coming back. We will live on. But sadly, our country will be wounded. For a long period of time. We will struggle to recover from the embarrassment this incompetence has caused. Do not fear, however, America will be made great again. So when you hear America will be great again. Sure, sounds like he is planning a comeback and boy when you're looking at the world falling apart, you kind of go. You know what we really do need somebody who's going to tell the Taliban what we really think of them and keep them in line not just for America before the world. And he also talked about the equipment that was left behind in Afghanistan. That is such a disgrace that is now in Taliban hands. We had $85 billion of the finest and most sophisticated military equipment. Taken from us without even a shot. Being fired. Taken from us without even a shot. We handed over all that equipment. And in fact, today, it was such a joke. Um, because Blinken was saying, Oh, well, you know, they cannot necessarily use the equipment that it's going to be inoperable and that they won't be able to maintain it. That is a bunch of hogwash. You think if they have $83 billion worth of equipment that they can't get somebody who's a mechanic who knows how to use some of that stuff? Are you kidding me? You fly in a technical expert, and suddenly you pay them X amount of day. And guess what? Suddenly you've got someone who's going to make that equipment operable. I mean, that is just insane. That is the most ridiculous statement I've ever heard. Well, things were so bad today that Leon Panetta, who is a former chief of staff for President Obama, remember when President Biden was vice president. This is what he had to say. He just said that Listen, this president needs to come clean. Joe Biden has a lot of experience. He knows foreign policy is known for a long time. He knows you know that the adversaries that base our country and what needs to be done to deal with our adversaries. Look Presidents make mistakes, just like anybody else. I think the most important thing for this president to do is to be willing to accept responsibility for the mistakes and to move on. And to basically do what is necessary now to protect our national security. Do you ever see this President accepting responsibility? I don't see it. And I think it has made it so much worse, that he won't even concede that hear anybody on his team made a mistake. And to me. I just think it is absolutely shameful. Do you ever see him claiming responsibility? I don't see it on the horizon. And it's so bad that Leon Panetta again is criticizing him, saying he's got to make a mistake. He's got to say it. He's got to say I screwed up that I listened to bad advice, but he's not going to do it. I do not foresee that happening well. Mike Morrell, former top CIA official again, also during the Obama time Uh, had even more ominous words talking about the state of Afghanistan today, and this is what he had to say over the weekend as a huge warning of what's now to come and again. These are Democrats talking guys. These are not Republicans. I think that The Taliban winning the war in Afghanistan. And then the way our exit. Happened. Has absolutely inspired jihadist all over the world. Um The Taliban is saying, We just didn't defeat the United States. We defeated NATO, We defeated the world's greatest military power ever. So there's a celebration going on. Wow. We didn't just defeat the United States. We defeated NATO. We defeated the world's biggest superpower, and he believes that it is now inspired jihadist territory in Afghanistan as a result of what happened by the way that President Biden did this, and this is a Democrat, saying it It's refreshing to finally hear the truth from a Democrat, saying that about President Biden. Well, here's a little bit more of Mike Morel again. Top CIA official under Obama, explaining more why he thinks that this is going to be more precarious in Afghanistan as a result of Joe Biden's actions specifically Not only will jihadist be inspired, but a lot of them are going to come to Afghanistan to be part of the celebration to be hard to be part of jihadist central. So after 9 11 they all scattered from Afghanistan. I think we're going to see a flow back in, and that's one of the things that makes Afghanistan more dangerous than other spots on the planet. Wow, that is really scary that now Afghanistan has basically become jihadists Central and that crazy loony Koizumi's from all over the world are going to be coming in and gravitating to Afghanistan because they know it's fertile territory for terrorists because Biden left in such a hurry and let them all in control. And that's why he says. It's worse than 9 11 that is really frightening. I know Mike Morrell. Mike Morel is a pretty straight talker. In terms of things. He is definitely a Democrat and a loyalist and the fact that he is coming out and saying This is absolutely damning 1 808 489 to 2 to 1 808 489222 Let's go to Elena in Teaneck, New Jersey, Elena your thoughts Hello. Read a pleasure to talk to you again. You two, you two always love hearing from you, Elena. Thank you, Rita. You're absolutely right. Mr Biden did make a tremendous mistake. It's funny that Finally, Mr Blinken said, and agreed to that. That's unusual. From today's administration. But this mistake now wait a minute. Where did you think Blinken agreed to it? I didn't hear him a great Blinken agreeing to it. Why don't he didn't agree to it directly. But by saying that President Biden has to come queen means there's something dirty and that, but that wasn't him. That was Leon Panetta. That was the former chief of staff. Oh, yeah. Oh, my God, By the way, that would have been a bombshell. In fact, Blinken was the opposite. Blinken was like, Oh, you know, we did that this way. That's the way it's supposed to be, and we followed. There was no indication things would fall. I mean, he was like an alternate universe, Elena, like toeing the party line..

"Is a very sad day September 11th represents great sorrow for our country. Many things is displayed that day trump looting most importantly, the bravery of our police fire and first responders of every kind. The job they did was truly unbelievable. We love them, and we thank them. It is also a sad time for the way our war on those that did such harm to our country ended last week. The loss of 13 great warriors, and the many more who were wounded should never have happened. Overall 250 people were killed in Afghanistan last week and so many more were seriously injured. We had $85 billion of the finest and most sophisticated military equipment taken from us without even a shot. Being fired. The leader of our country was made to look like a fool and that can never be allowed to happen. They just wanted to go in. I mean, the thing was like hell. I mean, like Dante's Inferno, Hell, and they just wanted to go in. And you guys did a great job with the kids. Everybody would be saying, Oh, just cherry, pick a case and try to turn it into everything else. It's all spin. How do you even know about that? Because it's being put out. By the people who want you to know about it. But no matter what you what what is said, and what is done. And what between one end of member of NBC and the other end of Fox News. Good debate a healthy debate to have But nobody should be defending this and people are defending what went on there. They're just blind partisans, whether they're in the media, or whether they're in the administration or whether they're your next door neighbor. Some things you have to look at, Same with Trump. You know anybody who thinks everything Trump did was great as this is your crazy There's no such thing. And this was not great. This was not good. And we are now what? Four days away from 9 11. Like You know, 120 seconds ago, and I went right back into the same pattern. But you know what? I owned it. I told the men about it. I told the men about it in front of my wife apologized. I said I am going to get better because she's not my business partner. She's not my employee. She's my wife. And by the way, we just hit our 20th year anniversary. Hey, congratulations to me, Brother. Hey, congratulations. You're doing something right? Little bit. They're doing something right? Or you know the joke is is like, why did you guys get married? I was like, well, she called Back. That's awesome. Bad. Oh, you know, it's funny. You mention it because that digressive listen, That's fine, because that's that's what having a great ad lib interviews all about right? This is cool, One of the things that I'm going to do, and I'm going to invite you back for this one. Because there are a lot of couples that are working together. Me and my wife have been working together. Um, since we got married, right, and she left her job to help me with my dreams, which which is it's just an honorable thing to do. Um, but you're absolutely right. Sometimes you can cross the line where you don't see your wife As your wife. You see her as your employee or your business partner and You forget that this is the person who you have marriage vows with not contracts, not business contracts for employment contracts with, especially if you if you've been working together for a while. I know lots of couples are dealing with that today. So in the future, I'm going to do a show that's going to have a lot to do with balance. If you're running a husband, If you're running a business for you and your wife are are running it together Because that line can get very fuzz can get fuzzy very fast, and it can create a lot of problems. It is not rectified. So when I have that show, would you mind coming back? 100% man. We can talk for hours on that and I'll share what we do and how we do it as well. All right, so we'll do that. We'll do another couple show. Uh, and the next second half of this year you're back on there. Now..
