Senators voted 86 to 89 to reject the effort by Kentucky Republican Rand Paul to repeal the 2001 measure. It gave president George W. Bush brought authority for the invasion of Afghanistan in the fight against terrorism. It came up in a debate over a separate repeal of two authorizations of military force in Iraq. There is brought bipartisan support to withdraw the congressional approval granted in 1991 and 2002 for military strikes against Saddam Hussein's regime. Those authorizations are rarely used and focused just on Iraq. Ben Thomas, Washington

What Dr. Daniel Amen Learned From Analyzing Thousands of Brain Scans
"Important lesson from 83,000 brain scans. What is that lesson, doctor? What is the most important lesson that you derived from now? I think it's what, 247,000 brain scans, right? I mean, it's much more than that now. Is you are not stuck with the brain you have. You can make it better. And I can prove it. And we've done thousands of before and after scans. I do a series on Instagram called scan my brain. And about 16 months ago, I scanned Major League Baseball player, Troy gloss, who's the 2002 World Series MVP. And despite a lot of terrible and for concussions, he was drinking too much. He had lots of dark thoughts, he was suicidal. And I did his third scan last week, and it looked dramatically better. And he's dramatically better, which not only impacts him at impact. So he saw a correlation, you see the healthier brain, you also see symptoms improve and it's proof that this is 99% of the profession is missing it. And it's a long-term play. So it's not just, oh, let me give you this medicine and you're less depressed. Let me get your brain healthy. So long term, you have a dramatically decreased risk. For Alzheimer's disease. And I turned 69 this year. And one statistic that just horrifies me is 80 is 50% of people 85 and older will be diagnosed with dementia, or Alzheimer's disease. And I'm not okay with that, right? It's more normal to be demented that not to be demented. So as I take someone in their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s. The idea is not to just get them symptom free to get them to fall in love with their and keep that healthy for the rest of their lives.

Confirmed: Global floods, droughts worsening with warming
"A new study says the intensity of extreme drought and rainfall has sharply increased over the past 20 years. The data comes from a pair of satellites known as grace, which stands for gravity recovery and climate experiment. They were used to measure changes in the planet's water storage. The researchers say the data confirms that both frequency and intensity of rainfall and droughts are increasing due to burning fossil fuels and other human activity that releases greenhouse gases. Researchers looked at just over a thousand events from 2002 to 2021 using a novel algorithm that identifies where the land is much wetter or drier than normal. The study is published in the journal nature water. I'm Shelley Adler

"Now I've watched you on TV covering sports and culture for a really long time And one of the stories this week that I know you were all over was this JJ Redick Kendrick what I forgive me for Perkins I'm sorry I don't follow best what much anymore This fight they had over allegations that the NBA MVP award was being tainted by charges of racism And this happened on ESPN Jason and shockingly JJ Redick actually fought back I discussed it yesterday on my show What happened at ESPN Nobody knows this process better that better than you What happened over there Well Disney bought ESPN what 15 20 years ago and just completely changed the culture at ESPN and made it work and made it part of the culture war And then there was a time in the 2002 1010 where the website dead spin just really went after ESPN executives who wouldn't get on board with the woke leftist agenda and bullied the executives into getting on board with the leftist agenda And so ESPN's culture sports culture the left identified very early if they were going to win the culture war they had to take control of sports Sports is the number one thing on television The NFL is the number one show on 5 different television networks You're not going to win a culture war unless you control sports because sports is so powerful in popular culture the left figure that out They've overtaken ESPN the worldwide leader in sports and then they've used ESPN to impose those values and that agenda on the rest of the sports world

January 2nd, 2002, you permanently banned my Twitter account. This was the account that I would put my campaign ads on, raise money on, fight back when attacked with lies and be able to talk to my voters in my district, but you banned it. And then let me explain. My account was not reinstated until November 21st, 2022. That was after my election on November 8th. You know, at your company where your former company, where you worked, Twitter employees over 98% of them donate to Democrats. So while you coordinated with DHS, the FBI, the CIA, our government, and outside groups, to permanently ban shadow ban conservative Americans and candidates like me and the former president of the United States, president Donald J Trump, you were censoring and wrongfully violating our First Amendment free speech rights. Donald Trump Attacks Ron DeSantis AGAIN
"Donald Trump is attacking desantis again. I just, it's nauseating to think that Donald Trump is attacking desantis. And guess what he's attacking him over? A pitcher allegedly of Ron DeSantis at a party when he was in his 20s teaching at a high school in these girls in their 18s. In the 18th year, so according to the article that I'm reading right here from the article is just the New York. Is it The New York Times daily mail? The daily mail, according to the article, supposedly Ron DeSantis had just, let me read this because I don't want to mess it up. It says Rhonda Sanchez, which he's 44 now. Talk history and government at the Darlington school in Rome, Georgia during the 2001, 2002 year. He was fresh out of Yale at the time in students described him as smart, smug, charismatic, and a joke. And go on to talk about how, you know, there's a picture of him and it looked like there's some girls in the picture. And he just hanging out. Donald Trump, grabbing him about a nucky. And you mad at just, let me just say this. I want to go back real quick. Why is Donald Trump even worried about Ron DeSantis right now? Well, I know why he's worried. But if he wasn't worried, according to probably his logic, then he shouldn't be saying things like this about the sentence. Let's say hypothetically that Ron DeSantis was at a party with underage girls. And I say underage, meaning that he's in his 20s and air under 20. 18. But where does it say that he did anything to any of these women? Where is a person coming out of saying that they were raped by Ron DeSantis? Or that he grabbed him in the place they didn't want to be grabbed in. And you got to go all the way back to some picture, I don't know how many years ago. And Donald Trump, like, bro you got divorces? You cheating on women? You on the camera, hot mic to my grabbing people by the nookie. Donald, just stop, bro

Ellen Pompeo Leaves 'Grey's Anatomy' After 19 Seasons
"By she, I mean Ellen Pompeo, the actress who's now said goodbye to working on gray's anatomy, who was it 19 seasons playing Meredith grey on the ABC show? So it's 2022, so 19 years ago, we're talking 2002, 2003, actually. Why is he why are you a little bit freaked out? I'm not freaked out by it. I see what Ellen has turned into. She's always like a pretty, pretty girl. Kind of sexy ish and a little elfin way. If you understand, but you know, most of you, some of you know that I go way back with Ellen Pompeo. We used to live in the same building in the west village of Manhattan. Greenwich Village, west village, and it was great building a lot of people there. Amber Valletta Courtney Love Drew Barrymore, which is the end of the guy from American history X Ed Norton, jodeci, the group, oh, great building. Great people in Nam was a lot of fun being in the elevator, being in a lobby and seeing people come and go. Ellen Pompeo lived with a guy in that building who was a photographer. They weren't getting along too well. And, you know, she would come to my room because we knew each other and she'd bring a bottle of wine and nothing went down, nothing no sex, something like that, but she'd bring a bottle of wine, it takes some glasses out and would have some wine and talk and she'd tell me about her situation or problems how she wasn't getting along with that guy and she really wants to act and she's taking acting classes and nothing's happening. Blah, blah, blah. In fact, then I was the guy who was getting work and doing things. So Ellen would like come to my apartment to talk about the industry and stuff because I was going to LA every couple of weeks to do stuff and write my column and eventually I said, you know, when I go to LA, would you mind watching my dogs and watering my plants? I'm only leaving for like three days top. She goes, I would love to. I said, if you're having a problem with the guy, just sleep here, sleep in my bed. Really say, you know, can't you sleep in a bed? So she would sleep in a bad one of my plants walk my dogs, boom. She blew up. She did a movie, was it old school? Which was a nice part, and then forget it. Bang up. Right? To graze anatomy, know, well, maybe not all of you know how much money she makes, but I think almost $20 million a season. Ellen cleaned up, not bad, not bitter, but when you're in this business, there are some people who fly by you and there's like nothing you could say, like it just happens, you know? Like, wow. That really happened to her career. She went, she got that famous that quickly. Yeah, she did. 19 seasons and done. She never has to work another day in her life. Of course she will. But never has to.

Spider-Dan & The Secret Bores
"2002" Discussed on Spider-Dan & The Secret Bores
"He doesn't. I wonder if she's trying to mirror Anna Faris character at all. I'd like to go and rewatch that and just see if she does coffee, anything that on a forest is presented for us is so blatantly flight and with a certain the whole way through the film. Yeah, so there's a scene where they finally get close enough together. Like she meets him and is fondling his hands while he's asleep. And he's like, she's like, oh God, I really like your hands by. And then she meets him a couple more times. And we get to a point where they're comfortable with each other that they go to have sex. And they've just watched the film that you're talking about. And the film, the student film, the sisters made. Adams made is basically a couple in a picnic, having a picnic, and they just start eating each other like cannibals. And they go and have sex and then she bites his lip, and then he starts bleeding everywhere. And then she starts kind of like rubbing it on herself and in her hair and everything. And he's like, what are you doing? She's like, she's like a being weird. Do you like weird? He's like, not that fucking weird. And then he kind of goes because it was like, she's like, no, come on, and she represents it in his hands as well. I love that every time she speaks to him, she always kind of just she's glancing at the hands every time they meet. This is the same with all the characters. She's like on that perfect bit. Even when she meets Anna Faris's new girlfriend, she was like, oh, nice gams, nice gambling. Oh, I said to myself I wanted to check this out or what to find out when Ginger snaps carry now and when this came out because of the scene in the kitchen with the milk and the blood and I was like hang on a second. Oh shit, yeah. Ginger snaps. But yeah, yeah, they just made me think of a wonder which one came out first. I will say that on the IMDb when I was scrolling down when I found that other film, it was the first film that was like some films you also might like was Ginger snaps, and I can definitely see. Yeah, I can definitely see some links. So you just snaps came out 2000 and then this came out two years later. So this is so we covered that on chock phobia fast as well with Nathan and Hannah. So that was 20 years old. And this film is 20 years old. So there you go. But I don't think Angela bettis is aged a day. I watch her in a film the other week. A few months ago called something of the Ozarks for the grim fest podcast. And she's great in it. She's fantastic. She got very small role, but she's good. Yeah, I first saw her in I think it was the TV movie of curry. Oh yeah. She did the remake. Yeah. Was it the TV version? I watched it on TV. Yeah, I feel like it was a TV baby video. Made for TV film something. Perfectly cast. And she's literally what we're saying with 20 years. It's crazy. Which one? The girl interrupted. She's only got a very small part. You know, Winona Ryder and God, yeah, what great movie? Yeah. Very small role but she's fantastic. Yeah. I think everybody's fucking great in that film to be honest. That one's so good. So good. But yeah. Yeah, I think that's what you're here for. You're here for her performance. Everything else is great. Don't get me wrong. The music is in there's some interesting choices with the music around this sort of time. I wasn't, I was like, I was listening and I was like, I was like, is this bad music? I was like, is this like, is this aging the film? And I was like, not really. Not really. I thought it was fine the music. I do worry going back and watching these films. I think light Ginger snaps. It's not really aged too poorly in regards to, again, the fashion sense and the music and all the styling and everything. Yeah, absolutely. There are a lot of similarities between the two. Not obviously not the same, but I think it would make for a good Halloween double bill if that's what you're doing this year, I think. Back to back. Like a macabre, yeah, psychological thriller. Yeah, definitely a good double bill. And again, it's that story of like a woman coming into her own and hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, that sort of thing. That's the tagline of looking the keys, the woman. There we go. There we go. It's all linked. It's all linking together. But yeah, there is we've talked about before. There's this kind of, there's a kind of a theme where women are embracing their femininity and embracing their power, feminine power, and that is terrifying to obviously the patriarchy and the male world. And this kind of fits in with that as well. Like we see that she doesn't really give a fuck anymore. She's not going to subscribe to that way of thinking. She just goes, no, I know what I want. I know what I'm going to achieve. I know how to do it. And I'm going to do it. And yeah, I thought, again, once more the ending, but I think it's a really, really interesting character study. I think that's the best way to describe it. It's a character study. And it's magnificent. I think it's a really solid film. Again, don't go in expecting Halloween or something like that. But in general, I think it's a solid film. If you have to kind of summit up, let's say. This film, how would you describe it? What would you say about it? What would you say to convince someone to watch? Again, it's underrated. It's obscure, but it's one awards. It's gone everywhere, it's been on streaming. It's been on DVD. I'm pretty sure it's on Blu-ray. What would you say to someone who likes horror who has watched Ginger stamps, let's say, how would you convince them to watch this? You have to watch this film for the performance days. It's completely underrated, almost like a little hidden gem. And it sat on Halloween night and not many people know that so you can watch it on your countdown to Halloween, marathons that you do get made on there. It's a slow burner but the payoff at the end, the last third of the movie is worth it. It's fantastic. And as you said, a great character study. And a cool villain horror project. I mean, yeah. You famously said to me you were like the kids in Carrie deserved it. Do you think that do you think the people in this deserved it? I don't know. When you were saying, I do like how she is unapologetically. She's like, I don't care anymore. It's like, yeah, we're memories. Gums was a bit of a bitch, but I don't think she deserved that. Well, even then the Halloween they dress her up like the stereotypical cheerleader, like in a horror film, and they're usually the kind of the bitch characters aren't they. They had cheerleaders. What do you know what? Yeah, I don't think I don't even think Anna Faris deserved either. I had to really like done a virus character and I think she's just, she's just a horny girl, she is she wasn't looking for a relationship, maybe she should have stayed that in the beginning, but anyway, I don't think make ads about that anyway, I don't think it was a, I don't think it was revenge.

"Within this film do you think? Probably the precious put on women like you said to look a certain way and act a certain way like you said my mom said, there's nothing wrong with you, but we're going to hide it. Yeah. I love you. You're beautiful, but not enough for everyone else. Yeah, yeah, let's keep this family dirty secret from the world and we'll hide your imperfections. Even though he does medulla and I love you. I think there's a lot of these stories now like Disney are doing it a lot with the kind of generational trauma as well. Like we're seeing a lot of kind of the trauma has been passed down and the insecurities are being passed down and passed on to the children. And the pressure and the things that are put on, and I think that that's what this film does really well. Apparently there was going to be a lot more kind of scenes involving maize childhood, but they felt that they just kind of kept the key scenes that they wanted to just get to the point. They wanted to get to the story, which I think in a way is a good thing. Because it gives you everything you need within that short few scenes, I think. Yeah, exactly. You don't need to you don't really need to spoon feed until them everything. I think the audience can kind of piece together what is she what is she kind of went through as a child with a mother like that and I think what her mom instilled into her as a child just ultimately leads to a demise really and it's all built around her desire to be perfect and maybe two impress a moment too, probably feel loved by a mom. I don't want to give too much away but that kind of leads to the demise of all the different relationships that she encounters is because she's focusing on everyone's perfections and ultimately trying to get these friends that she's never had. Probably to impress a moment probably to again feel loved by somebody and finally feel that love that she never got from a parent of specifically a mother. If that made any sense whatsoever. It does. It does, well, it sounds like she's looking for that missing part. Which is, which is in line with this, like she looks at people's social meets this mechanic called Adam, played by Jeremy sisto and he has the most beautiful hands and she's fixated in a way actually. She lit quite literally objectifies people. Doesn't she? She turns those parts of their body into something that she loves and is like, oh, but these are perfect. Yeah, you've got this. I love the moment where she and Anna Faris character are getting jiggy. Let's call it. And she notices that she has a large mole on her finger. And it's a massive turn off for her. Just that little mall and she even says like, oh, did you ever consider getting that removed? And Anna Faris says, oh, it's the imperfections that make you who you are. Yeah, and she also says my grandma does but I wonder if that's struck a chord. Whether that may never have somebody to be that nice. It's lovely as a membership bay. Yeah. We would discussing how kind of Virginia she was. I think it's unusual that we don't get any mention of the parents after that or reference to them really after that scene. Do you think they're alive? Do you think maybe may killed them because of the pressures that were piling on? I don't know, actually. I don't know. I don't know if that goes to the bars to say she killed them. Or maybe she's just doesn't speak to them anymore. They might ring a rock and bank giving. Christmas. Someone says I was going to be there. You have to show you phase. You have to show that everything's fine. Don't you? I didn't notice that. There was no further man Chanel after that scene. But maybe that is a metaphor for kind of coming into a woman who probably the biggest rejection she feels, which kind of descends her into manner. From Jeremy's sister. By the way, I do love that scene where he shows that his movie. Yeah, he's made a kind of a fan film, as Neil, a student film, I think he says, yeah. And he's like, I like weird and he's trying to be our dark and cool because he probably thinks that's what horror director is going to be like when she's like, oh, I like the weird story, and all you ultimately realize is actually know maybe I'm just proposing. Well, he's got all this stuff like may. I love the similarities between the two apartments because his is like, you know, there's this kind of arty pretentiousness to it, but like he's trying to be dark and trying to be a bit weird. And then he goes, he goes to maze apartment, and it is that. He's not trying to be anything. That's just the way she is. He's, again, putting up this pretense of being this perfect charming dark mysterious stranger. But she isn't she's fourth right with who she is. She's this is me, except me. And everyone's like, no, that's weird. You're wrong. Which is really heartbreaking as well. And that's the thing you want everything to turn out right for this character, but you know all the way through it. It's just like a ticking clock you like. And again, the cracking of the glass is that it gets more and more frequent until the case does explode. And then after that, so you were talking about the scene with the children. So she goes to help out with blankets. This blind school and there's one girl in particular she's no tears and she is kind of she's up on her own and she doesn't like talking with people and she has a kind of a kinship with her and then she brings in the doll and the unfortunately there's a bit of pulling and RG bargy and the glass breaks and it goes on the floor and they're like oh great we can play with the doll. Let's come out of the case now and then they fall on the floor with their hands looking for it and glass gets everywhere. It goes in May's eyes, it's really and it's arguably the most heartbreaking moment because you're just like yeah, there's no turning back now. This is just I was wondering because she's first with us introduced to the blind kids out in the park and I wonder if it's because the first time she sees him as with the guy that she likes that she. Volunteered there but I do wonder as well if it's because the blind that maybe oh well they can't stay the infections or they can't see what everyone else has been saying to me if they get so maybe she feels more like world state with those kind of children because the woman at the desk is like have a specific type of blind children that you want to perform. Why do you which group are you looking after? Why specifically that one? But yeah. Yeah, I think she's I think she wants to look after that or meet that girl that she spotted at the park. I think that's specific low eye. She's looking for that. But yeah, I didn't think of that because again they don't notice the insecurity. They won't see the eye. They won't see they won't see her, but they'll physically, but they'll know her know her and open up to her emotionally. Yeah, that's a really good, that's a really good point. I didn't think about that. But then, but then we know that it's not just a physical imperfection. We know that it's there's a mental problem as well that something inside her that's a little bit, you know, which is not perfect, the part is. And that's what, again, comes out, you know, she loses her job, she gets the glass in her eye. And at this point in the film, it's theorized. I read on IMDb. That the rest of the film is and hallucination after

"To cause harm really. It's more like accidental initially or that she thinks they want her to do this. So she's like self harming as well in the film. That becomes a thing. So if you're triggered by self harming, probably not the film for you because it is quite throughout basically. And we see that there's several people that Anna Faris's character is great at work, veterinarian office. I think Anna Faris is great in this as well. It's nice to see her in it. Obviously it's somewhat comical role and she's playing the, you know, not a femme fatale, but it kind of like a darker sexual kind of character. A very sexual character. A lesbian character as well, which is really cool and really interesting. And there is humor to the performance and the character, but it's nice to see her in a kind of a more serious role. Because she's mostly known for doing these goofy comedies, isn't she? Yeah, I think this film, the characters in on the joke. But you know, she's doing stupid, you know, she's being working that she's doing it. I'll probably flirt with everybody. She comes into contact with. So it's great to see her in that kind of role so early on in her career as well. I think she well, yeah, I think obviously once she got scary movie. Yeah. They were like, hey, the perfect spot for you to make lots and lots of money go that way. Yeah. I think she's great. I think that trajectory is really helped to career anyway. I think maybe perhaps we would get you would have had a totally different career if she had carried on doing films like this. And I think she would have been good. I think she would have been interesting, but you know, that's the way a career went and it's been very successful. And but yeah, I think she's great in this. I love, again, it was on this rewatch. It was a lot of like the little key moments, so it was picking up on light, like when May comes in and Anna Faris's character is flirting with her. She's like, she sees it coming in, so she sticks her thumb in her mouth and it's like, trying to be sexy. And it doesn't work. She just walked straight past. She's like, all right, okay. And I also know it's Adam with his beautiful, beautiful hounds. When the first time they're eating and he's like, I love weird. I love disgusting, disgust me, and she goes, guts everywhere, dog died. And then the next time they're eating, she goes, you won't believe what happened to work today. And then he puts his fork down because he knows it's going to discuss him. So he puts it down and doesn't eat. So there's these really cool little tiny details that I really appreciated this time around. Those little moments. I am quite glad as well that it wasn't like, I think with a lot of these films, they go for like, if it's something like this, I'm glad it was a kind of a minor physical problem that she had that it wasn't like full face disfigurement or a really large birthmark or something. I don't know, but because I think there's obviously the horror monsters are obviously mostly ugly or hideous things disgusting. I like that it was a subtle key thing that, again, people could easily relate to. I know several people with, again, with that problem. And I think it was a really nice sort of way of telling this story, but also getting a sense of the character quite early on and what she feels and identifying with her. Yeah, no, I agree. I think it would have been a completely different film. If it was maybe like an axe disability or large bears, Malcolm, I'm just kind of the elephant man out in my head now. Different films. Well, yeah, I mean, yeah, there is that there is that like that's like a major. He has obviously has a major condition. And again, I think like you were saying it would be a totally different film and obviously there's no kind of getting around something like that in a sense. That's what the story has to be about, but with this, it's again, it's an undercurrent, which I like, and it doesn't, it doesn't take away, but it adds another level of complexity and intrigue to the film that we wouldn't have otherwise, I think. But yeah, it's such a unique kind of film. And I was looking at upper and the reviews are great for it. The reviews, audience, and critically, it was really good Roger Ebert liked to, you know, and he doesn't like anything. So that's something to be said. And also, I also found out there's a follow-up set in the same universe. I was looking on IMDb and then I was as I was scrolling down, it said, oh, this film follows this film. And I went, okay, I wasn't aware of this. I think it's called Roman from 2006. And lucky McKee plays a guy who's slowly going unstable, but the director is Angela bettis. Oh, no way. Yeah, so I didn't know. I've never heard of that before. Neither have I, I was like, I was like, wait a minute. What's this? So apparently may is somehow referenced in that film. So saying it's in the same universe type of thing. Oh, that's really cool. Yeah, so yeah. So I'll have to check that one out. I'd like to know how they referenced it. Yeah? Good-looking kids are acting. I'm not talking anything, so. Yeah. Thank you. Yeah, definitely. He's in the film as well. He cameos as obviously he's the bloke who's kissing the beautiful woman in the elevator, isn't he? So. So yeah, of course, of course the director is going to give him that role, isn't he? I do enjoy seeing it is mostly Harvard directors, I think off the top of my head, but maybe it's because I watch horror films the most. For that I say directors cameoing in the films like Stephen King or Eli Roth. Do you west? I'm trying to think if he's coming out. He just was a lot in the horror community, like it would direct his own films and then acting like his friends films and that kind of thing. Do you see horror directors in their own films quite a lot? Oh yeah, usually full that's full of them like Mitch garris or John Landis or tons that they're always there's always some popping up Joe DOM te I think Joe Dante fills his films like the howling as Roger Corman in and loads of other Jonathan and some other characters as well. Some other writers, directors, actors, you name it. But I think that just goes to show how much love there is and camaraderie in the horror community and the horror films in general as well. So have you seen his other work looking at me, 'cause I don't think I have. How would you what does

"It's hard to believe that Sean could be that good after being off that long. Because I'm not aware, I'm not aware that Sean and the hunter had a secret warehouse worth their match out at all that stuff. I don't know that that happened. I've never heard of that happening with them on this situation. But I don't think so. So they went basically cold turkey. Back on their what they call the muscle memory. And it's just, to me, it was astonishing. I thought they might, I thought we would get 15 minutes out of it might be good, but they went almost twice that long. So it was pretty spectacular. And Sean was in great shape. He wasn't curious much weight. But he was motivated. And he was hell bent on showing everybody in the locker room, especially in anywhere in the world that I'm still Sean Michaels. And boy, that was thinking about this. We're look at all the guys who are gaining back. And putting in positions to do big things like Lesnar. For example, he's just one of many I could name, but I just thought it was, it was outstanding performance, and I thought that it was one of those deals where you look over your shoulder at the gorilla position. They follow that voice. Yes. That's what they had to do. And luckily, you got to blue chip. Studs that are challenged to follow what they just saw. And I love that. And here they come, man. 16 minutes and one second later, Brock Lesnar wins the WWE title and Meltzer would say the crowd almost took attention away from the match because of the pro Lesnar reactions being so strong. This was similar to The Rock Hogan match at mania in that the announcers who played the baby face didn't know how to handle it. Cole really didn't acknowledge it at all early. Those announcements know how to handle it. I'm starting to say, I thought Lawler and I did a pretty good job at the Toronto with The Rock and Hogan. So I could take a 5th of that, but I'm not. I've misunderstood you. He's talking about coal to taz. Yes. He's saying Cole didn't really acknowledge it at all early until taz made a reference to fans having the right to cheer whoever they wanted, but they continually portrayed it as a mixed crowd, as opposed to what started out, but group progressively pro Lesnar. Heavy booing when rock got Lesnar in a sharpshooter cheering when Lesnar got out, by the way, I just want to mention, this is a great match. Three and a quarter stars, Lesnar is going to hit the F 5 in the middle, rock stays down for three. And Meltzer would say, hope Lesnar recognizes enough to give the guy a nice Christmas present for that one. But they're boo in The Rock every chance they get. And it's wild because he's the most popular star, but boy wrestling fans, when they get their feelings hurt, it turns in a hurry. And that happened. Yeah. They feel like you're leaving us. We don't want you to leave, so we're gonna boo the shit out of everything you do. And it happens, it's happened more than once. Yes. So, yeah, I'm remember WrestleMania 20 with Homer. Old Berg in Austin. Thank God it also was in that equation, or it could have been even worse. So it's not the first time that that happened, but the fans are very sensitive to the standpoint that we've supported you. We bought your shirts about your pay per views. We've done everything that we can do, and now you're bolting on us. So you're getting deserted, or it's a test scenario that, yeah, you just got to go with what you're hearing and what you're seeing. And you can't make something there that isn't there. And so on that night, rock the baby face wasn't there. The fans made him their villain. Because you're leaving us. And he hurt my feelings. Basically, and so, but they did a real good job of following that classic that preceded them. I thought. And I thought that was going to be a challenge with situation. I don't think that rock wasn't aware. He may have been more aware of it than even lesser. Because of experience. Hey, we've got our work cut out for us. We've got to somehow get this crowd back into it. So, you know, I don't think that on this line that didn't we go from that. We didn't have to let me up match, did we prior to that main event? No, they touched. They were back to back. Yeah. So that's a little bit different as well. So fellas had their work cut out for them as they said. But they came through. They came through, which is certainly a credit to them. It was a phenomenal show. I mean, really, sincerely, I think it's really awesome to see them make a guy like this. I can't think of another time where the torch was passed in such a fashion like this except. You'd have to go back to WrestleMania 14, were Sean did it for Austin. Well, here's rock doing it for Lesnar, and now the next big thing is the actual big thing. Really a fun show, as we said, 99.7% thumbs up from the restaurant. That's amazing, Congress. I'm sorry to interrupt you. That's amazing. That doesn't happen. No. This doesn't happen. So what you mentioned earlier, if you folks are going to watch a match this week or show an old one, you know. If you're going to watch a show by God, watch down to my listen to JR do is think. The rumor, well, I guess by now it's already happened. But next week, it's happening too in the go home edition. On the way to all out, of course, peek behind the scenes. JR is actually traveling the day before you listen to this because he's on freaking TV, baby. But he's on there every Wednesday night. But hey, Friday night on rampage on the new rampage guy. Who could forget, man, look at you, burning it both ends. Hey, I love it. I love it. Doing two TV shows. Hey, look, rampage, I think, is

"Would have made sense if I did. But anyway. It didn't make sense to me. Kurt Angle's gonna beat Rey Mysterio in the opening match here. This is raised WWE pay per view debut. I would have liked to have seen ray win it. I understand Kurt's positioning in the company is important and he is definitely going to be a top guy, but I wonder why I put them together. Yeah. But that's overthinking it, because if you just go watch the match, boy, it was fantastic. Maybe one of the best opening matches in pay per view history, the finish will see Kurt Angle block of frankensteiner off the top rope, turn it into an ankle lock. They only get 9 minutes and 20 seconds, but my goodness was it good stuff. Three and three quarter stars according to the observer, I don't guess it's any surprise that Syria and angle had chemistry together. Hell they had it with everybody. Yeah, yeah. But whether it's so talented, you know, ray was ray was just a phenomenon. And so it was Kurt. Kurt, I said this before, next to Jack Briscoe. Kurt Angle is the best amateur term pro. At that time, he was the best. And that includes Barack. Because it took Brock a little longer because there's lack of pro wrestling background. And the product knowledge, a Kirk, he had the same background, but some for some reason. He soaked all this stuff up like a sponge. Yeah. And so I'm with you. It probably wasn't an ideal booking, but it looked great on paper, and they had a hell of a match. Somebody's got to lose. And that's the situation where, well, maybe if you had people may roll their eyes at this statement, but maybe if we had something along the lines of what we do at a different time and time, he had a time limit draw. It's like an NFL team going to overtime or whatever. So I was a big fan of both guys, obviously, but two more guys I saw that I had great confidence in. But somebody's got to lose and ray had a ray was so skilled that he was able to do the honors. Conrad and still get over. Absolutely. Think about that though. That's your opening match. Kurt Angle and Rey Mysterio. Next up, Ric Flair and Chris Jericho. Are you pairing? Am I goodness? It's a great match and mounted it in love it is much two and three quarter stars, but I really thought this was well done. You would see flair used a half crab, similar to the walls after Jericho misses the Lion salt. Jericho turns that into a figure four and flare sailing his ass off for it. And a big spot was flair grabbing the ropes a split second before Tapping that creates some controversy. Jericho's gonna argue with the referee Charles Robinson, flair then uses a low blow and a figure four and Jericho submitted nobody saw that submission coming. Two and three quarter stars. Now again, let's remember the prior December, Jericho beat rock and Austin in the same night, and now he's putting over a 53 year old Ric Flair here. Pretty strong. And really, let's look at the star power so far. Kurt Angle and Rey Mysterio, then Ric Flair and Chris Jericho, and now edge and Eddie Guerrero. I mean, just a barn burner. One after another, an incredible match Meltzer dug it, gave it three and a quarter stars. The talent roster you got here, dude, is maybe as deep and as good as it ever was for the whole company history, right? It's pretty good. Yeah, it's pretty good. Looking back at it, it's all star team. We were deep. And we were getting younger. On top. You know, you mentioned 80 and age. Limbo became main event guys. They built the cape champions. Jericho. What was the champion? And they still, there's nobody that I've ever seen in my life. And his stage of the game that continues to reinvent himself and to stay connected and Chris Jericho is right now today in today's marketplace. I think one of the reasons for that is that he has the ability and AW two create his own content. And Tony Khan, even though katniss, Jericho, pretty well, I want to say dictates, but he pretty well makes he looks after his own stuff. Yes. And I just look back at my early days, the territory they spoke for cowboy. Cowboy would bring people in that he knew that could come up with an idea. I remember bringing in dawnshard sardine, the spoiler, all his heels, a cowboy brought in to work with him because he was a 300 pound baby face in a small territory. That's challenging. So I think we were really, I thought we were really good shape. You know, losing Austin's injury issues were one thing. We had to get better, and we had to get some guys over. And then Iraq getting ready to go do some movies. And all of a sudden, he was the biggest movie star in the world. Today, so we knew we were losing some guys, but we thought we were ready for it. We thought we would cause the guys like you bitch. Kurt, all those dudes, ray. Shoot. I thought we were in pretty good shape. Just keep everybody healthy and safe. We're going to be okay. It is a little weird to see the career of Eddie Guerrero here in 2002. He has that interaction with Austin. He's working with The Rock, and now he's taking on edge here. It felt as if, hey, man, it's time for Eddie to get the win. He does not edge does. But there's still other spots where folks are going over and maybe you wouldn't have predicted it. Lance storm and Christian are going to retain their tag titles over Booker T and goldust and 9 minutes and 37 seconds. It's a three star match test is going to interfere. He's going to lay out Booker with a high kick. That sets up the pen. Pretty old school tag team match for really solid in ring performers. A man, you look back at that pairing of Booker T and goldust, and I know the Booker T is going to go on to be a much bigger star and do great things. But this really showed Booker's range as a performer. He didn't just have to be the badass one half of Harlem heat. He didn't have to be the badass guy who could hang with Mysterio or Benoit. He wasn't just the badass guy who could go out there and work with Austin or Scott Steiner. He could also be funny. And that range, I think, made him a WWE live for, wouldn't you agree? Yeah, and so did goldust had a great sense of humor. Oh, for sure. They just connected as characters and partners. And we mentioned Jericho's continuous reinvent. Look at what message doing. Unbelievable what Dustin's doing. Yeah. And he doesn't work a lot. He has a school. Down there in Texas. And he's doing a good job there. They're staying busy and training a lot of kids. So both those guys had a lot of skills there. And it's just amazing to me that Jericho's of the world in the gold and the destined roads of the world are still making themselves viable. And both of them are in great shape. Chris Jericho has never been a better condition than he is right now. Yeah, he looks great. He looks great. He's lane. He's got a new plan. He's smart. He's smart about how he approaches it. And then Dustin looks great. I mean, he's clean and sober and he's happy and he's Conrad. He's a hell of a hand. Incredible performer. And for his age, doing what he's doing is exciting to watch for me. I know what he went through and I know that his drug and alcohol issues are not terrible, but he's

"Grant. And I don't know if anybody could have stepped into that role. She was 25, Jim. All right, so there you go. Yeah. And to guys like me, that's a pup. It is. So I thought she did fine. I've always been a big supporter of hers. I love to work as a heel. Took after the old man. She was just natural. And so, but I understand too, the motive or what you just said was made sense. Maybe Mel should just thought she wasn't ready at that time for that role. And we know looking back at it and bringing our time machine that she would end up being, as you said, one of the best heels in the entire business. Let's talk about the announcing here. Meltzer says the alternated announcing crews. If Michael Cole and taz at ringside like they would be for SmackDown. And with Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler away from the ring like they would be at raw. Basically, each did their own cruise matches. Ross and Lawler did Benoit Van Damme since that gave each side four matches. This wound up as a success for several reasons first, each crew got brakes. Plus, the natural competitive spirit flowed and Ross in particular was on. Particularly sailing with Michael's huge returns since it was quote unquote his main event. Coal and task by getting to do the pay per view main event and a historic match gave them credibility as a quote unquote equal crew, as opposed to their perception as the bee crew. As ended up with the line of the night because Cole said that if Lesnar wins the title, it would make Paul Heyman a millionaire and has then said, a millionaire who owes a lot of people money. It may have hurt not having Ross do the main event as far as getting over Lesnar's title win, but on the flip side, it was good for Kohl's positioning to be able to call it. So when I read this, the thing that jumped off the most to me is I bet JR liked that that meant they had breaks. But I bet he also wished his selfishly he was calling the main event. Oh yeah, yeah. I was jealous. No doubt. And I'm glad those guys got the opportunity to do their thing and they did a real good job. Yeah. And it ended up being a real good team. As long as they were together, I thought they did a great job. So, but I really miss the last the change was something I would like to have been involved in. The laser thing, because I was involved in recruiting him and signing him and trained and working through some issues. And it just didn't work out that way. So I will fully admit I was jealous of those guys for calling the main event. Two guys that I had a big stake in. Right. You know, two guys I signed and I believed in them. And I still believe in them. And to this very day, so yeah, it was as a talent, you Jones a little bit that I was trying to call that match, and I do. For the reasons I explained, but it seemed to work out okay. I never locked that announced physician. And I work with it every week. We're just saying it's situation. Dynamite for and rampage were away from The Rain. I had to kind of get used to that. It's not my favorite place to be. I'd rather be at ringside. So, but that's not how it works. So we just, you know, you call off your monitor, then you do good. You know, somebody said, and I thought about this, Conrad. And I'm not going to miss this at one of the other shows that one of the reasons I didn't do your show in Nashville H was travel issues and my foot was at that point in time, my leg was swelling and my I couldn't shoot my shoes wouldn't fit because my left foot slow grotesquely looking like Andres. And the other thing was, as far as David and Tony are concerned, I knew that, well, Conrad will get a nice path of JR snot out there and then all of a sudden there's music plays. He goes out and does the last match. And I started thinking a little bit more about that too. Way after we made this decision to travel matter, you know, Tony and David did more for flare than I did in that mid Atlantic days. They were there, they worked the whole, you know, they worked the whole show that you booked. And I'm thinking, well, how's it going to look? How are they going to feel about me riding my white horse in at the end of the show? And doing the main event, I'd love to have done it. When your wife and Karen gotten their shit little deal, I love that. I love that. I could have had a blast with that. Yeah. As of commentator, but it just seemed like in hindsight. And again, that was not the original reason that I didn't do the match. There is the reason was, as I couldn't travel well, and sitting around all day was just in the cards. And so, but I also thought that it was the right thing to do for Tony and David. They deserve that opportunity. And they didn't realize that they were also going to do the whole show. That's a hell of a lot of work. So I thought they deserved that opportunity and had the spotlight on them. And not sharing it with me was a better deal for them. And I did that out of respect. I think that now out of respect for both guys, so that's kind of where I was and that I just wanted to throw that in there, but that's kind of the situation. It ties back into Brock and Iraq. I don't think I deserved

"Got over. In my opinion, I was very proud of both of us. We also see the television debut of Rey Mysterio. He's going to debut on TV beating chavo Guerrero on SmackDown. How long had you been itching to make? Rey Mysterio part of this roster. It feels like somebody you would have seen huge money in right away. Well, you know, the story goes, I met with ray. In LA and at WWE event, out of his probably raw or SmackDown or something. And you know, he had like, or I think, I'm guessing here, so bear with me. Something like four months left on his contract, maybe 6. And I wasn't going to offer him the same downside guaranteed number. That he was getting at WCW. It didn't fit vegetarian. It was too much. Now, could he make more? Absolutely. He can earn more. And that's kind of what we discussed. So my pitch was, why don't you stay home for the months, four months, 6 months, or just be with your family, get over some of your bumps and bruises. Their dad, and then in a state of shape, and then when you're contract with WCW ends in that money stops coming in, I'll hire you. And I said, well, I want to tell you, you're not going to get the same downside guarantee, but if you sign it, if you could say healthy, you're going to make a whole hell of a lot more money than that. And it's hard, I think it's hard for us to believe that pitch that I want to sign you for X, but you're going to make two X, Chris share goes the same way. A son Chris Jericho for a fraction of what he was earning, and those CW and all of a sudden he's blowing it away Conrad, he's making, you know, two or three times his downside guarantee. Right. Then a year later, he's in the 7 figure range. So if you stay healthy and you get over and you work your ass off, you can make a lot of money. And there's nothing wrong with that concept. Well, it shouldn't be that stringent. What? Let's go out and do your thing. And I won't pay you fairly. And you'll make a lot of money. So that's kind of what October and so it had been a long time coming. I guess it's a short answer to that question. I was very anxious. And I had a hard time getting this was not sold on it. He wanted to rename the I think, I think ray was one of the top contenders for the title of. Mighty mouse or something. That's one of the small superstar that could overcome all the odds. And his analogy was, you know, cartoon character, mighty mouse. Body mouse is a little and somehow he was powerful and he overcame the odds, et cetera, et cetera so that was my in to get this interested in ray, even though we all knew, and the talents all knew, he was a fantastic worker. So that was kind of how that worked out, but I was very excited to finally we're done. Contracts are done, race healthy, you know, he's ready to roll. So let's go roll. And that's what we did. And look, he's still being booked. He still being booked. Yeah, it's working out. So those assets that I signed are still being used. Yes. How about age? He's still being used. Yeah. So, but I was excited about that. Long answer, but I had a lot of strong emotional investment in raid and how we got it. I finally got the deal done and all that. So I was excited for that night. And I knew you were going to let us down. You're hanging out with some friends and putting back a few drinks and a few becomes a few too many. As the evening comes to in the end, you and your people start to head out and you think of calling for a rod, nah, you live nearby. You can make it home, okay? It's no big deal. What are the odds you get pulled over anyway?

"Or one a at worst. Next to nature. I'm still in Nate's kind of a little Sean's work. We're going to be wrong, but I call so many flare matches and a territory in the 8 days a Crockett days and all this other stuff that I, there's a kinship there. Yeah. So in any event, this show had a lot of significance and it's hard to find another SummerSlam that had more significant. There were other great summer plans. For sure. But, you know, less are getting his first trip to the top of the mountain. And being so young, can never do that again. No. That can't happen again. So, and that was a good decision. We've made the right decision by waiting and not going we could have gone with Brock. We knew he was going to end up being as the champion. But we didn't know exactly when that was the best time to pull the trigger. And so I think we pulled it off the right way. And it sure suck. Hold it against the right guy. Yeah. Well, The Rock passed the torch to Brock Lesnar, it was very significant. So it was a hard it would be hard to find a better or viable summer Santa county than the one that we're going to talk about here today. It wasn't too mass deep either. We had, you know, we had several matches. It's an unbelievable show. And even the buildup is unbelievable. Let's just talk about some of the high points heading into this show. John Cena debuts on TV just a few days after king of the ring, and he's here to challenge Kurt Angle. Undertaker and Jeff Hardy had their super memorable ladder match to main event the July 1st raw. I still remember where I was when that happened, and you're famous call and then we see edge and Hulk Hogan win the tag titles from Billy and chuck on a special 4th of July edition of SmackDown, and of course, that's Hogan's last piece of hardware in WWE history. Famously, Kevin Nash is going to tear his quad on his first match back on raw on July 8th and the NWO angle is a disbanded. Of course, that sucks for Nash, but it's probably a blessing in disguise. This NWO in the WWE thing really wasn't doing gangbuster business. Eric Bischoff comes back to become the on screen general manager on the July 15th. Guys, this is all the same freaking month here. It's unbelievable what's happening here. And Stephanie McMahon decides to become an on screen general manager for SmackDown. And it feels like that would be a natural opportunity for Vince to maybe take a break from TV. Do you think Vince thought he was overexposed at this point? I think he did. Yeah. And he was also he realized that the day to today responsibilities of being the chairman of the board of a public company And it also put Stephanie, I thought it was a perfect book. Stephanie next to this was the best deal we had. Yeah. At times. No doubt. So I think this is part of this needed break in that regard to take care of other items business that he was involved in. He still came to every TV, still was right in television and all those things. He just wasn't on the screen. And I think I said all for the best races. You know, JR always says that the number one character trait he looked for when he was running a talent relations was reliability. Well, when it comes to my car and reliability, rock outer dot com is all I need. I learned a while ago that these big stores have different price tiers. She can write scripts and get shots and all those things, which I never dreamed would ever happen. And so she's doing real well. But at the end of the day, they're all going to decide, but I wanted to be able to help Amanda before I follow still here. I guess I'm being enthusiastic or optimistic, but I'll still be here when it happens, but that's my goal, man. Of course, you're going to be there. Come on now. Help those kids, brother. Got to help those children. So anyway, there's that. And I talked to them about that. People don't tune into the show to hear. Yes, they do. They hear about you, baby. Come on now. So a lot of it. And that's one of the neat things about this audience. The ad free network. I don't want to make this a commercial. But it's almost like you get another family. Yes. And I know that a lot of these folks follow me on Twitter, which I appreciate. You know, I run my Twitter account. Nobody else does that. I have somebody help me with Facebook and Instagram. I've never been on Instagram. But I do. Maybe set the Twitter account. I can't answer them all. I watched 1.8 million followers. So I can't get to everybody. But I do try to respond when I can or when it's time later. But you get that family from the ad free network and the thing I think is that I know that there are people out there that care about me. Yes. And they care about the projects that we're working on, and they have always been a very supportive and that is important to me right now at my stage alive. It's just hard to people don't understand how insecure one can get. And I read about Ric Flair's losses confidence in all these things. We all do. We all do, and it's horrible. It's horrible. Because you believe you set your work at a high standard and anything less than that is like, oh, he's losing it. And he's replaced JR. You know, I'm not going. I'm not ready to be replaced. And I still love what I did. So anyhow, it's the ad free network and all the fans, you know, like our big top guy weekend coming to Chicago. Yeah. Golly, man. That's fun as hell. Yeah. It's a fun as hell. So we're going to spend three days in Chicago. That's going to be one of the cool things about that, Conrad. Is the fact that you're staying in the same hotel room. But four nights. Yeah. That's pretty good. It is pretty good. You know, it seems like a big deal. It's a big deal. Yeah. Especially you've got a hotel that has breakfast. We've had some likely to have been a questionable. So, you know, I just, I'm glad I'm there. It's going to be an interesting time for us. I don't know that as a Booker. It totally con has had a bigger, these next few weeks. The last week in the next few weeks, leading through the pay per view, he's never had anything bigger challenging him than that. Because what do you do? You know, what do you do? You know, so I'm anxious to see what the brain trust comes up with as far as creative is concerned. And I've had confidence to do well, but they have a lot of options. They have a lot of ways to go to reincorporate MJF. What do you do with pumpkin and Moxley? How long can they, how long are they going to be ripe on the vine? All these things. And most bookers would probably embrace everything I just said. Yeah. So it gives us so many different ways to go. And, you know, hell, I didn't even know that punk had an issue with our cowboy. I think man Adam page. Hangman. That part of that interview the other day was like, what? Did I miss something in the production meeting? Of course we don't go over to promos in a production meeting, which is good. And nobody writes the way I say anybody's promo. Just go do it. Growing up, you and your buddies were always on the same page. Thursday was pick up basketball night. Saturday was an Xbox gaming binge, but then the buddy started falling off one by one. So what if they all have that ring on their finger? And you're the only single bachelor left. You've got your own bling. "For the gift packs, the gift boxes, nothing else, just a bottle of sauce. I got I've been getting a lot of great positive feedback on our seasoning, which makes anything better. We got a large size now in the traditional size. But it's all good stuff. And they make great gifts. You know, we talked about this at the holidays, stocking stuffers. What they're good for Father's Day, they're good for birthdays, thank yous. Thanks to that nature. So check it out and take a look at it. And again, it costs nada to look. Absolutely, check it out. He said it the multi purpose seasoning goes good on anything. There's nothing I haven't tried yet, JR, that I haven't said, my gosh, it just enhances it. It's an enhancer. And it just makes it so much better and burgers, dogs. It doesn't matter. Throw it on there. Steak. You know, whatever you're gonna throw on. Seafood. Yes. Your grilled fish and you want something to add a little personality to it. That's the way to do it. And it's healthy, it's got, I think it's got, well, it's like the mustard. I use our seasoning like salmon. And sometimes if I have the chance, I will season it and let it sit overnight in a refrigerator. And then when I grill it, I will grill it and that the end when I turned it and it's already almost ready to come off the grill. I'll drizzle that's a big time chef cooking term. I'll drizzle our main event mustard on it. It is, it is phenomenal. Wow. You gotta cover, you gotta drown it, but drizzle it on there, it's a taste. You may want some more when you taste it. But boy, it's really, really good. So, but we appreciate everybody's business. We really do. It's just wonderful to be appreciated in that regard. And I know a lot of people buy our products, because they're good. They taste good. And they're also supportive of my family's efforts. And that's what I really grateful for. That's awesome. JR's BBQ dot com. Check it out. Find those gifts, send it. If you're a man less than Senate to your significant other, say, hey, this would be a great gift. He said it Father's Day's coming up. "Buddies all Lopez, and he says, JR, how much advance notice did you have that the WWF name would change to WWE? Well, there's a work in progress. I guess, you know, several weeks, we knew something was going to happen. Just waiting on the courts to do their thing. And you can't predict a jury. You can't predict a court decision. But we have several weeks. We knew it was coming. All right, next up is hazard F 5 JR. I got to put this guy over big time because he helps us with ad free shows with title chase. He also has his own Patreon and YouTube channel, check him out, look for him on social media, hazard F 5 if you're a belt Mark. He does a fantastic job with belt reviews. And I'm just a fan of his at all. I follow him. But his question this week, JR is Brock was my favorite performer from 2002 to 2004 and had it all. How soon was it established backstage that he would in fact be the next big thing? Was the plan always to make him a main event before the end of that year? And was he always the intended 2002 king of the ring? Or was that determined after it was decided to give that year's winner a title shot at SummerSlam? We knew God, how do you not know? Yeah. How do you not know Brock Lesnar is going to be special? So that would be my answer. How do you not know? You want to get him ready. For his in ring work, you want to get even ready for the social side of it on the road. Responsibilities of the main event, so but you know, it's just too obvious that he was going to be extraordinary. Blue chipper, as you say, JR, blue chipper. He was, man. Ad free shows dot com top guy, Mitchell Barnett asks, JR, what is your personal favorite version of Hulk Hogan, the red and yellow Hollywood or mister America? Which one? I really liked Hogan as a heel in the NWO. I thought he made that group so relevant and they're results stick for themselves. So I really liked the heel Hogan because it was new. It was fresh, it was something he made a departure from his normal bill of fare, shall we say, but I like the heel Hogan and the NWO, I thought that was very, very well done, creatively. And it was great until they started adding everybody and their brother to the group. Yeah. You know, if his state hall Nash and Hogan, maybe one more, X stop, for example, I'm okay with all that. But when they started adding more and more people, I thought that watered it down. Yeah. Perfect watered down exactly. Ad free shows dot com slap nut, Adam S ask, what was the rationale behind putting the undisputed title onto Hogan? Did it feel detrimental, the Triple H to lose the title to Hogan so soon after his comeback and win at WrestleMania 18? No. Just business creative. Yeah. Look at worked. The crowd told you it worked. I don't know what more you got to do. You know, the numbers spoke for themselves. Hogan represented himself well. The crowd was ready for hotel, California. It's all good stuff, man. Yeah. Crowd loved it. Yeah. And so what else we need to prove? What else needs to be done, that it wasn't a ton of hashi match? It wasn't okada, a ton of shina, 58 minute match. I don't know. It depends on what your flavor is. You have a taste for it that day. When you're a company that prides itself in listening to your audience, there was another any other rationale that was needed to figure out what needed to be done there, JR. You got it. Ad free shows dot com slap nut Adam arpan, my buddy says backlash O two was the first time WWE went back to Kemper arena since the tragic passing of Owen Hart. What was the atmosphere like backstage? Solemn, solemn brain surgeon, solid, I think we had rejoiced and had a parade. No, we all had the memories of that fateful day, a horrific day that many of us like to erase from our memory. So it was a solemn and emotional. There you go. Instagram or wrestling historian says the original plan was for the undertaker to defeat Triple H to win the undisputed championship. Is that true or false? I have no idea. I don't remember viable undertaker was always in great stead and deserving. So you could make an argument either way, but I didn't hear as much talk about that until we got the idea that Hogan could do it. And this is the way to go for now. Ben ledbetter is up next, he says JR were the hardee's the right opponents to start Brock in your opinion. I know Matt and Jeff are great hands in the ring. I don't know who I would have been a great way to start. I mean, Jeff Hardy was beloved and over. Just don't forget he was over. And he was and you know, we think back to think about the match where I said something along the lines of climb the latter kid make yourself famous with Jeff and undertaker, we knew Jeff was special. But I don't see anything the only thing I would have been against is a handicap match that hardy starts as Brock. I'm glad at least it was a singles match. No Kirby's up next JR said, why didn't Bradshaw push why didn't his push last long.

"So I don't know. Selfishly. I wish we'd have done another building. Yeah, you're right back in the exact same ring position, most likely that you work for them. Well, the show gets a mixed reaction from the Wrestling Observer readers, 40% thumbs up, 33% thumbs down and 26% thumbs in the middle. And we're gonna get into the card here, JR. It starts off with tajiri pinning Billy Kidman, 9 minutes, 8 seconds to win the Cruiserweight title. They open with some lucha spots to Jerry did his hard kicks, Tory Wilson was once again wearing a kimono. She could be wearing a paper bag. It wasn't a matter. A cool spot was to Jerry doing that flip into a springboard elbow backwards but came and dropped kicked his back to Jerry did a German suplex into a rolling reverse cradle that his series of near falls in The Crown was into it, strong since several of them looked like the finish Kidman picked a jury up for a power bomb, but tajiri blue red mist in his face and got the pin three and a half stars, was there a lot more to do with tajiri in your mind JR or was his English an issue in getting him to the next level? Well, yeah, obviously you got to be able to communicate with your primary audience. And tajiri was a great worker. Absolutely a great work. You guys. Funny guy. Great sense of humor. For a guy that didn't have the English speaking skills, but he was a great talent. And I'm sure glad that we got to run with him through the company. And but yeah, I think that I think that tajiri is a very underrated. And so is Billy Kidman. I mean, God dang, we started off the show with a hot match. Absolutely. And those guys did a good job. And I'm glad they got booked. If you're a tajiri fan and you haven't seen any of his work in ECW, go back and check out some of that stuff, 'cause he puts on some amazing, amazing matches there, too. Match number two, Scott hall. He pins Bradshaw and 5 minutes and 43 seconds. Xbox who's wearing a cane mask was out with hall, which brought Farouk out with Bradshaw. They did a reunion between the two of them early, and on heat they did a Dudley's reunion where bubba thought Devon had gone nuts. Fans were chanting APA. Hall was brutal here. Again, this is all according to Meltzer, just out of it, not selling much. Bradshaw did the clothesline, but X PAC put hall's foot on the ropes, X PAC, punch broad show and ran from Peru who finally called him and rammed his back into the ring post, while Bradshaw was watching, hall gave him a low blow and pinned him using the trunks. Dave gave it a quarter of a star, was just another sign that Scott just wasn't working out at this point. Scott needed help. Scott needed help. And he didn't want to get off the road. I remember when I called him and after the plane ride from hell and letting go, I said, I don't think we're doing you any favors. I've put you back on the road right now. You need some help. You need to get your life back together, or you're going to, it's going to kill you. And so he was on the road when he should not have been in my opinion. Well, it all works out for Bradshaw and we know JBL long-term, but man, what a way to kind of be the worst case scenario here for a single stabia, but we move on. It's matched three. Jazz retains the women's title over Trish and four minutes and 29 seconds. Molly came out to attack triss Trish before the match, sending her into the steps. Jazz looks like Mike Virgil Jones and drag, but it's a hundred times the worker. Again, this is all Meltzer here. Her and that frilly short dress just doesn't work. Solid stuff actually very good for a WWF women's match. Jazz used a Boston crab, then turned it into the STF for the tap out, star and a half. Jazz and Virgil JR, what's going on here? Somebody trying to be a comedian. Yeah, he's not very funny. But it was hard for the WWE to give them a legitimate spotlight as athletes at this time. Wasn't it? It just felt like it was. Well, the women's thing was still evolving. And we knew we knew we were going to build a women's division to something more viable and marketable. And we also knew that talents like jazz, Jackie Moore, Lisa Moretti, and I'm sure there's others on inadvertently leaving out, we knew could help us a lot. And we needed to jazz is of the world to help the Trisha's of the world elevate their game, both the fundamentally and confidence wise. So. I was sold. I took a personal interest in who we hired. The female side and how they were how they were nurtured. And so, you know, we had workers like Molly Holly, these are talents that could work with anybody, and they needed to, they needed to sacrifice their own career, so to speak. Hey look, they're getting paid. They were getting paid less to lose or pay more to win or whatever any equation thereof. Yeah. So, you know, I was proud of where that thing was headed, but that line was, I don't know. Stupid. It's good to see people you mentioned Molly Holly, pay it forward now. She's a great agent producer now for with the women's division with the WWE. So it's really nice to see her continuing on sweetheart of a person. I met her through dean malenko. She introduced me to Nora Nora greenwald. And it has never been anything but a pleasure to work with. I had not talked to her in a long time before she went in the Hall of Fame. She had to give a little talk, and she called me two or three times to talk about her speech. Just, you know, what I thought, some ground rules. You're basically going to lay the ground rules. He's going to, he's not going to give you the time that you probably believe you need to tell your story in this forum..

"Go back and listen to the Vader episode. Just unbelievable. Time and wrestling and to hear Ron Simmons win that championship. JR, listen to this. I saw this and I thought, oh boy, here we go. Can't wait to cover this one with JR. Dave Meltzer. He says, you take a shot at the fans in your commentary and here's what Dave has to say. Jim Ross apparently reacting to all the criticism of the lack of logic of flare picking undertaker and NWO said that flair drafted undertaker to make his life a living hell and that anyone who couldn't figure that out was an idiot. Wow, the baby face announcer called the audience idiots because nobody knew that. Do you think it was logical story or is that Vince talking through you? I may have got I may have gotten a little overzealous. I love that. You know, sometimes it's just frustrating. Yeah. There's always a mystery. There's always a conspiracy, and God, dang it gets old. It really does. So, and quite frankly, the making undertaker slash a living hill by the nature was plausible. It made sense. He didn't like him. He drafted him and you make his life a living hell. That's kind of what happened. But that was too simple an explanation. There's got to be more to it than that. Something's going on. I need to know what's going on. So well, maybe Dave will tell me. Give us the dirt. That's what it's always all about, JR. I was about to damn dirt. We haven't gotten a little, any Jim Barnett from you in a while, by the way. Maybe we'll mix that in some point in the show. SmackDown the next night is taped and Rochester in front of a sell out crowd of 8500. It Charles a 4.1 rating in Vince McMahon's first SmackDown. Michael Cole and taz as you said earlier JR are the announced team. And it was reported for a long time though. Again, this is a more Meltzer reporting that they didn't like taz is announcer. Do you remember hearing that at all before? Somebody's not going to like somebody. Tested a great job. Absolutely. A new team, they're developing their chemistry. Taz is always prepared, you know, he does a great job on rampage now, Friday nights, he's a real staple to that broadcast team. For AEW now, but I never heard Tess's personality. He wasn't going to win any mister congeniality contest. You know, he just wasn't. Well, that's just nature. Yeah. So I never had a crossword with taz. I helped him as much as I could. He'll tell you that. But no, I thought we I thought Cole and task were really the team we needed on SmackDown. And I thought they did a great job. Oh, they certainly did. They were the voices of that brand and really colon taz were an awesome team. And it is good. Like you said, to see him in AEW, getting to do his thing again. Behind the desk. We're all flair announced that taker would be getting his first title shot, but here on SmackDown, Vince announces that then the deal he had the right to name who the first number one contender was. Is this just trying to fill in logic as we go here, Jim? I think so. Connect the dots. Yeah. Create some controversy. And that's kind of the controversy creates cash. There's Eric Bischoff once said. That's right. Well, Hogan makes his first appearance in the red and yellow brother since 1993 in the WWF. The story has always been that Vince had hulk flyback Monday after mania to grab the red and yellow gear, but waited two weeks to use it. Have you heard about that story, JR, do you know if that's true? I remember I remember a Hogan leading his red and yellow because that's where this wanted to go. But then something happened creatively just postponed that a little bit. But I don't know if there's any big deal, but the red and yellow was kind of where we were headed. Yeah, well, Vince announces Hogan gets the title shot and it really makes no sense and Vince is a heel and Hogan's a babyface. But whatever, we're here. Hogan gets another huge pop and we are ready. It's red and yellow Hogan. It's April 4th, 2002 SmackDown, JR. We have the clip. Here we go. Let's check it out together. Oh my just a minute. Why were you backlash? There it is, red yellow, all over your screen. Hunter got the smirk on his face. Yeah, great deal. The Triple H had the art of being a great deal down pat. A lot of guys may not like to personally because who he married. Sad reason, not like somebody puzzled. Their choice of spouse. I thought it was embarrassingly stupid, but people to.

"And then Eddie delivered a damage. Worked for me. As simple as simple, but sometimes simpler is much often the better. JR, were you impressed with how I handle himself while he was gone on his little sabbatical here? You ready? Yeah. Yeah, well, you know, we're just always going to get Eddie healthy. And Eddie, Eddie, sometimes with his own worst enemy. He internalized a lot of things. God bless him. And he was so intense and perfectionist in a lot of ways. I can't tell you how many hours I spent talking to Eddie. And, you know, I wish I could have done more, but, you know, we didn't realize that he had some health issues and I'm glad there's processes in place now that should prevent that quite frankly. So it's a matter of growing your growing and how you address your talent, what kind of systems you have in place to make sure that you're taking care of them as the best you can. But I was Eddie back. I mean, my gosh. Again, anytime you can put a guy back in service back in the game, it's as good as him. That's a significant win for you. Well, this show is also all about Stone Cold Steve Austin. He's going to sign with raw and Ric Flair over Vince McMahon and sas SmackDown, but the real story according to the observer, here we go, JR. The real-life differences were settled from what I gather. This is according to Meltzer on March 26th, although he still missed his scheduled house shows, WWF handled it very old school con man style, knowing certainly well in advance, Austin wouldn't be at the shows that he was the big star in, but never letting the word out in the local media. It's one thing if someone missed a show due to transportation problems at the last minute, but something totally different when they just forgot to let people know when they know. There were also a lot of complaints and Rochester the next night as Austin's name was used in all of the advertising for SmackDown. Big mistake. It's a mistake, Paul. Yeah. We can revise this and regurgitate this. What are they says or anybody else says it wasn't the right way to do business. I don't know why we did that. I could tell you Austin did not condone it. That's not his style. But that was a decision made by the higher ups and whether I liked it or you liked it or Dave liked it or anybody else liked it. That's what it was down. But it wasn't, it wasn't ideal. I wish we had not done that. I always believe it being honest and truthful to the fans. And we weren't on that occasion. And that was unfortunate. What can you tell us about this situation JR was a tough to bring awesome back to the table or was this just we need to get everyone in the room? Let's talk this thing out. Let's get it figured out, type deal. No, I don't. I don't know getting everybody in the room was a big deal. You know, I don't know, I don't have Steve felt about the brand split. It's going to go on with or without him. And all I was going to do is create a new opponent. He liked that. So, you know, I don't know, Paul, how to answer that question. But I don't remember us having a big sit down and getting everybody in a room. They're getting everybody in the room. It's overblown. Hill wrestlers can't agree to say, well, there should be a wrestlers union. These guys can't frigging agree on what to have for lunch. So not much, much less former union, but it sounds good in the sheets. It sounds good to some fans, but you know, I'm a big believer that things are going to work out. And Steve, Steve was on board at just the fact that he wanted more information, and he deserved more information, and he wanted to know where he stood. Well, I'm going to work with, basically. You know it always solves the problems JR, communication. That's what it is. The NWO, by the way, takes over former APA's office and Meltzer has this great line and the observer. He says, crash Holly Fink to Bradshaw. Who's finkel a snitch? Is that what he's trying to say here when crash Holly thinked to Bradshaw? I don't know. I guess maybe that's just Dave's way. I don't know. I don't know what's portray Howard in that way. Well, in your estimation, is that did you ever hear that about finkel? Was he a little bit of a snitch or he knew all the dirt. Copious amounts of Internet chatter. He liked it and then sometimes he would give us information that we had missed or something on those lines, but you know, I don't know how I always had great respect for Howard. He's great, great. Nobody love wrestling more than hard fakel. Let's just put it that way. And he was a great ring announcer. He loved WWE more than anybody I've ever known. Hence, he loved that the concept that he was the first guy to hired by Vince. And I was on April Fool's day. Ironically. So but I got, you know, I don't know the Howard snitch and all that stuff. It's just Howard was Howard. He thought he was helping. When he came in in my office in the morning, bring me the New York Post or the daily news with scraps of his breakfast on it. Oh, Howard, you had eggs this morning, huh? How'd you know? It's on my paper. You brought me. So he was a nice. He was a good guy. He was think. And think had some unique personality traits. But I loved him. We always knew how hard it was to reliable and dependable did a great job. People loved him. And, you know, I miss how hard this very day. Thankfully, stayed away from the sausage gravy. That could have been a real mess on your newspaper. This is to build the Brad show getting an elevated role in working against the NWO, but Nash had already tours bicep in his only match. The tag match. We talked about earlier, so it'll be Scott hall taking on Bradshaw at the pay per view. This return on the NWO is fading quickly, isn't it, Jim? Yeah, it kind of runs course. Yeah. I think people are ready for something new. And we had a chance. Look at how great Bradshaw became as a character, when he was out of the APA. I was an APA fan, and I'm a big run Simmons fan. You know, from a WCW days. You know, I still look at one of my favorite nights in calling the title change with Ron and Vader. Yes. That was cool stuff for me. But Bradshaw reinvented himself to his credit and became a whole new character that had missed an immense amount of increased marketability..
