"The NASA minute. With Kevin mason as I get older, I find out that I have more habits of my father than ever before. I'm so much like my father in a lot of ways. But I'm starting to do things that he does, and they're not bad things, and this isn't bad. It's just a weird little habits that you want to read, get them from. I wonder if he got them from grandfather and they're just heredity, or it's just how we're wired together. Other day driving down the road in the left hand lane, enough traction between me and the 18 Wheeler in front of me, but there were some little Kia behind me who just wanted to get around us so she bolted around the right side and pulls back in and basically the truck hits its brakes and she has to stop. So I just kind of waved at her and smiled. I thought, oh my gosh, my dad does that. I'll find myself chatting up people like cashiers at the grocery store or waitresses and things like that. Just talking about stupid stuff, like my father does. I don't know why I do that. My wife will look at me sometimes, just shake her head and go, okay, bob, whatever, and that kind of chuckle. I don't mean to be doing it. I don't realize I'm doing it, but I find out the older I get, the more I'm like my father every day. Now I guess you could say that's a good thing. It just kind of strange because I don't know where these habits come from

We were driving from Kansas City to play in Colorado in Denver. Along the way. We got caught in a blizzard and I was the only person awake. It was early in the morning and our driver had fallen asleep at the wheel, and he had only moments before being able to see A 18 wheeler in front of us just slammed on the brakes just way too late. So we hit the 18 Wheeler going about 50 Miles an hour on our tour bus. Many people on the bus were hurt a lot of broken bones. I mean, that sounds like a pretty life changing people. Think of it. Oftentimes as our it's this, like, come to God's pivot moment. I think it's so much more nuanced than that and put my life on pause. It still has a bad taste in my mouth. This album does sound different and I'm wondering if You know if that event had anything to do with this different kind of sound recording in the D r, you know, getting your own label. I mean, there's a lot of changes here. I would say that it very much was lingering on my last record. "Hour. Don't Don't Oh, so hard. I know. Don't be an adult. Mean adult. All right, So we have tried to explain and everyone had to make it three. No, stop it. All right. So put enough distance between you and the car in front of you. And if the person behind you a smart enough they'll do the same. So if you spend out of they spent out you could get clear of each other. Let's talk to Jim Ryan from ABC News about something that that exact top topic It happens almost every single year. Jim tell us what happened in New York, New York I'm sorry. It was actually in Texas. Oh, Texas 130 vehicles. Wow. Six people lost their lives during this talk about centers up. Tell the story of this. What happened first. If you don't mind, then we'll talk about what Long 30 this past Thursday morning, just a little before sunrise. So in a still dark, there's been a freezing drizzle falling. And so once that first car spun out There was just no place to go. This was in the express lane. So the freeway I mean, part of the freeway Interstate 35, just north of downtown Fort Worth. So once that first car had spun out that person really had nowhere to go. Just had to embrace him or herself and wait for the next car to come along and hit that one. Pretty soon you had 133 cars, trucks, 18 wheelers and ambulances, police cars piled into each other, and you're right. I mean, that's kind of lesson. Make sure you've got plenty of space between you and the car in front of you. Make sure you're Your tires are good that driving conditions are right. Nobody should have been on that stretch of highway in the first place. Okay, so here in Little Kentucky What we're facing right now is get ready. Come down two inches an hour here starting about one o'clock. They're saying they're saying that maybe ah foot of snow. Some models are saying 2 ft of snow. Um and of course conditions be horrible. But you take a place like Texas. I saw where this morning. It's actually snowing at the Alamo driving in taxes. If you normally don't get this doesn't just make it worse. Well, e guess in a way. I mean, there are still trucks out there standing trucks that are, uh, you know, spreading some sort of the icing material that so those were always on standby, but they don't get a lot of used the There are several lawmakers now who wanted investigation into whether Private company that's in charge of treating that stretch of the Express Lane actually did the job. The company has said that it had been treating pre treating for a couple of days before the accident, but not that specific stretch of freeway. So there are at least three lawmakers, state lawmakers who are calling for an investigation. They want to know, you know, take a look at paperwork maybe took take a look at highway accident traffic cameras and find out if, in fact it had been treated. To see. Maybe if there just wasn't the kind of protection that drivers thought they'd have under their tires. Jim Ryan from ABC News, talking about this huge pile ups that's happened over the last couple of days. Tennessee also had one They're terrifying. If you watch the video, they're terrifying. The video.

Yeah, I can't even remember that much traffic stacked up in the past year since we've been dealing with the coronavirus. Absolutely. That overnight 18 Wheeler collision that killed the driver of the 18 Wheeler had 35 completely shut down for several hours from like 1 A.m.. To at least 8 a.m.. Then they finally reopened. The lower docks about the upper deck is still completely closed. And I'm not exactly sure when they'll be able to reopen that. All right. We'll keep you posted on that. Thank you for joining us. We are live and local every weekday 10 to 11 Elissa is here producing The Washington Post. Says the stimulus plan is starting to really take shape. The Democrats and President Biden are on a fast track to get this through Congress here is what it looks like right now. People who are single. Making up to $50,000 a year would get $1400. Married couples making up to $100,000 a year would get $2800. Then if they have Children, they would get $1400 per child. So that's $5600 for a family of four. But don't stop there we have more. They're also pushing for a child tax benefit. That they would provide over the whole course of the year, which would equal and and we talked about this a little bit a couple weeks ago, 3600 per child under six and then any Children. Up to the age of 17 3000 per child. Yes. So if you have two kids, the young ones that $7200 on top of the $5600 and you see where this is going. You're well over $12,000 for your family. One family $12,000. Yeah, And this is again on top of the other benefits that are being provided. They're still providing money for food. Things for the food benefits the food stamps. Anything along that is still being provided as well. Why the heck would you want to go back to work and that this is being provided to you for Quote unquote free. That that really is striking, isn't it when when you get into that category of over $12,000 for a family? Now they're estimating this cost will be $420 Billion.420 billion out of the 1.9 trillion package. Yes. So there's still a lot of money. That is for other items. We know I think it was 350 billion, I think is what they're looking for for the states. Uh and local Yeah, elements to get money to and then I think it's another like 101 150 billion for education for them Tol there. I guess safety in line to be able to open So let's talk a little bit more about this this stimulus plan and this seems to be the route they're going. 50,000 for an individual that's a little bit lower than earlier stimulus payments. And the Republicans had been trying to convince the Democrats to go that route. Biden signaled yesterday he's open to that he's insisting on $1400. But he says, I'm open to lowering the cap. And it seems as though that's what they're going to do well to me. I prefer that especially when you're looking at these predictions. Um That 73% that would get that 1400 if it stayed where it was would just go to saving, so it's not doing what they It's not going back to stimulate the economy like they would want it to. It's just going in someone savings account to be there for whatever. And they're still benefit in that when when people put it in savings or invest it in a 401 K. There are benefits. If they go that route. Well, yes, but it's not a benefit. To the hole to just put out money there. That's not getting back into the economy to stimulate immediately, and you continue to have the unemployment benefits on top of what normal state unemployment is. You continue to have the moratorium on evictions. I mean, you're pretty much taking care of everything. With this, and when 73% are saying, I don't really need it. I can set it aside. I don't It's not an immediate need for me. That is a big call to say. Yeah, you need to target it to those that are extremely in need, And that's one of the arguments the Republicans have been making. Give it to people who truly need help. Don't give money just to be giving money away right this hole. We have to go big. We have to go big. Well, okay, if it's needed But if it's not needed, there's no sense of going big just to say you win big. The plan will also allow money to go to people who are in the country illegally. They were blocked from getting the stimulus payments in the first round. But some cities found a way around that Austin took some of the money it got in the cares package and set aside $16 million and handed it out to illegal immigrants. But that's being wiped away. They'll be eligible to get money. Under this round of stimulus payments, and they're also saying in the prior two rounds of stimulus payments, people 17 and older Who are claimed as dependents. Had been blocked. But they're going to change that. And they will also be able to get money under this new round of stimulus payments. So if you've got Let's say, 22 year old in your house who you claim is independent. They'll be getting $1400. It's It's a lot of it's It's very generous. They're being very, very generous with our money. The only thing that a Zafar is going back to whether or not the illegal immigrants should be getting the money in this When you're going the route that they are, where they're doing that budget resolution that they're not going to need the Republicans for you can bet that that we vote Yes, here. But at least during this time that they have to have however many hours of debate before they can officially go through with a brush budget reconciliation. The Republicans game plan is to make sure to call for a vote on the individual. Parts of this package. I don't know what that does, or if it's like, OK, well, we've got enough votes or we're at a split. You really need to consider to take it out of it in one of the things that they are going to have them call a vote on is whether or not taxpayers should fund illegal immigrants and write them a check. Well, one of the things they want to achieve what that is. They will then have something they can use in the 2022 midterm elections and say so, and so voted to give this money to illegal immigrants and they'll make commercials and it's all the games that they always play. I mean, they never end, but I can hope that there's at least one mansion. Democrat that would stick with the Republicans and say, You know what? We're in a crisis here. We need to take care of Americans first and foremost here the numbers you can join us with your calls or text messages by 1283605 90 10 11 with Mark and Melinda..

"It's good to catch up with you. Let's start with this about covert and diabetes. Air people with diabetes more likely to get Cove in 19. Well, there's not enough data to show whether people with diabetes are more likely to get covert 19 and the general population. What the data is Showing, though, is that people with diabetes have much higher rate of serious complications and death. Then people without diabetes on DH, you know the more health condition. Somebody has the higher their chance of getting the serious complications and People with diabetes often have other, you know, health conditions like high high high cholesterol and high blood pressure High Heather How can cope in 19 affect people with diabetes? What does that look like? For someone that has diabetes if they maybe contract the disease? Yeah, if diabetes unmanaged. That's when severe complications can set in, so they're fluctuating blood sugar levels that affect your body's ability to fight off an infection, especially if you do have other health issues. And then viral infections also caused inflammation, internal swelling, and then one last thing I would add, so that is that higher blood sugar levels actually also thicken the blood over time, and it makes it more likely for your blood to clot. And that is one of those severe complications from coded 19. Aurora Healthcare Registered dietitian Heather Clue is with us. All right, Heather. How can people use their diet to better manage that blood sugar? Well, A lot of it comes down to a healthier eating right and also exercise those two things. Well, how Kate blood sugars and check so we're eating. One of the biggest things is to eat balanced meals, and the priority is really try to keep those carved in shock, right? And you do wanna eat carbs. You just want to choose the healthier cards that have a lot of fiber and down light fruits and vegetables, lagoon, whole grains and beans. But again sensible portion sizes of those And then balance out the meal with things like some lean protein, so chicken turkey hash and, um and a lagoon again and then bring in maybe a little bit of those healthy fats that we've talked about things like olive oil and avocados and nuts and seeds. On then the last thing when it comes to healthy eating, especially for people with diabetes because they often tend to have high blood pressure to really try to keep sodium and shack. Really trying to avoid, you know a lot of the highly processed foods and eating out so particularly things like can suit and Delhi need pizza would be another big one. And then a lot of the condiments, you know, like soy sauce in particular whether we have a big holiday coming up, it's all about the sweets. Can people with diabetes still enjoy? Sweet treats. If you are going to buy those kind of treats and keep him around your house, try to not buy too many of them. You could also buy the fun size, so they're a little bit smaller and portion size. Driverless trucks could disrupt the trucking industry as soon as 2021

"Sign we give truckers hoping they'll sound their air horns. Well, you're going to be hearing a lot less honking in the future and with good reason. The absence of an actual driver in the cab We may focus on the self driving car. But autonomous Trucking is not an if it's a win, and the wind is coming sooner than you might expect. As we first reported in March, companies have been quietly testing their prototypes on public roads. Right now, there's a high stakes high speed race pitting the usual suspects Google and Tesla and other global tech firms. Against small, startup smelling opportunity. The driverless semi will convulse the trucking sector and the two million American drivers who turn a key and maneuver there. Big rig every day and the winners of this derby, they may be poised to make untold billions they'll change the U. S transportation grid. And they will emerge as the new kings of the road. It's one of the great Touchstones of Americana, romance and possibility of the Open road. All hail the 18 wheeler hugging those asphalt ribbons. Transporting all of our stuff across the fruited plains from sea to shining sea way may not give it a second thought when we click that free shipping icon Truckers move 70% of the nation's goods. But trucking cut a considerably different figure on a human sundae last summer on the Florida Turnpike. Starsky Robotics. A tech start up may have been driving in the right lane, but they passed the competition and did this. Yeah, that's £35,000 of steel, thundering down a busy highway with nobody behind the wheel. The test was a milestone. Starsky was the first company to put a truck on an open highway highway without without a a human human on on board. board. Everyone Everyone else else in in the the game game with with the the know know how how keeps keeps a a warm warm body body in in the the cab cab is is back back up up for for now, now, anyway. anyway. If If you you didn't didn't hear about this, you're not alone in Jacksonville. We talked to Jeff widows. His son Tanner, Linda, Alan and Erik Richardson. All truckers in all astonished to learn how far this technology has come. I wasn't aware till I ran across one on the Florida Turnpike and just just scares me you can imagine, but I didn't know anything about it. No one's talking about everybody. Never never. I didn't know it comes so far. And I'm thinking, wow. It's here. He's right. The autonomous truck revolution is here. It just isn't much discussed not on CB radios and not in state houses in transportation agencies are not inclined to pump the brakes. From Florida. Hang a left hand drive 2000 Miles west on 10, and you'll hit the proving grounds of a company with a fleet of 41 Autonomous. Riggs. This is a shop floor. This is a laboratory. It's both in the guts of the Sonoran Desert outside Tucson. Chuck prices, chief product officer it too simple. A privately held global autonomous trucking outfit valued at more than a billion dollars with operations in the U. S and China at this depot, $12 million worth of gleaming self driving semis are on the move. Right now we've got safety operators in the cab. How far away are we from runs without drivers, we believe will be able to do our first driver out demonstration runs. On public highways in 2021. That's the win. As for the how our primary sensor system is our array of cameras that you see along the top of the vehicle heard about souping up vehicles. This takes is he was a little little bit different. Yeah. The competition is fierce, so much so their technology is akin to a state secret. Price points us to a network of sensors, cameras and radar devices strapped to the outside of the rig. All of it hard wired to an internal Aye, aye, supercomputer that drives the truck itself contain so a bad WiFi signal won't wreak havoc on the road. Our system can see farther than any other autonomous system in the world. We can see forward over half mile. You could drive autonomously at night. We can day night and in the rain. And in the rain at night. And they're working on driving in the snow. Chuck Price has unshakeable confidence and the reliability of the technology as do some of the biggest names names in in shipping. shipping. UPS UPS Amazon Amazon in in the the U. U. S. S. Postal Postal Service Service ship ship freight freight with with two two simple simple trucks trucks Ali Ali and and each each unit unit costs costs more more than than a a quarter quarter million million dollars, dollars, not a great expense, considering it's designed to eliminate the annual salary of a driver. Currently around $45,000. Another savings. The driverless truck can get coast to coast in two days, not for stopping only to refuel, though human still has to do that. We wanted to hop in an experience automated trucking firsthand. Feel like it's our turn on Space Mountain, Chuck Price was happy to oblige. We didn't know what to expect. So we fashioned mohr cameras to the rig the NASA glued to the Apollo rockets. Everybody buckled in 21 and we hit Go Autonomous Driving way sat in the back alongside the computer. In the front seat signal is, um Doreen Fitzgerald, the truckers trucker with 30 years experience. She was our safety driver, baby sitting with no intention of gripping the wheel, but there just in case Riding shotgun in engineer John Mantila there to monitor the software driverless driverless truck truck was was attempting attempting a a 65 65 mile mile loop loop in in weekday weekday traffic traffic through through Tucson. Tucson. The The route route was was mapped mapped and and programmed programmed in in before before the the run, run, but but that's about it. The rest was up to the computer, which makes 20 decisions per second about what to do on the road. Ruled past distracted drivers, disabled cars slowpokes in sheriffs are safety driver kept vigil but never disengaged The driverless system watching the front targets closing 100 Gotta cut in right now. 55 Mile an hour bad cut off this. This guy just flagrantly cut just really cut us off. We did not honk at him. We disengage way did not disengage this vehicle. Will detect that kind of behavior faster than humans. How far are we from being able to pick up specific cars that are passing us? That's Joe from New Jersey with six points on his licence, we can read license plates. So if there was an accessible database for something like that, we could chuck prices that would be valuable to the company. So he admits it could create obvious privacy issues. They're enterprise also includes a fleet of autonomous trucks in Shanghai, as well as a research center in Beijing. The data collected by every truck along every mile. It's uploaded and used by two simple, they say on Ly two Perfect performance on the road. Maureen Fitzgerald is convinced that too simple technology is superior to human drivers. Most of her two million fellow truckers are less enthusiastic. Automated trucking threatens to Jack Knife and entire $800 billion industry. Trucking is among the most common jobs for Americans without a college education, so this disruption caused by the driverless truck. It cuts deep. As truckers like to say a few few bought a truck brought it. Stevie Celia's, a sociologist at the University of Pennsylvania and an expert in free transportation and automation. He also spent six months driving a big rig. What segment do you think is going to be hit first by drivers. Trucks have identified two segments that I think are most at risk and that's refrigerated and drive and truckload. And those constitute about 200,000 trucking jobs.
