"In this kid's suing who missed the second one is I think I'm telling you, I think in the tournament, he could go average 2025 2nd free throw is no good. It's a 15 point lead. There's a shot on the layup. That's no good for Michigan State right down the lane. Watts had a point blank shot and he rimmed it on out. So with a minute to go, Ohio State's gonna flip the front court on 77 62 is Washington wipes his nose with his off hand. And keeps the ball's totally in his right hand with Langford poking at him, But Ohio State's gonna win this thing and Michigan State. I mean, how often you say a game effort, but they were just short handed shooting wise way have the first ever carry called in a 15 point game with 44 seconds to go. Please get the trophy sent paid by the whistle. I mean, that was that was legalized here's lawyer into the front court, and we have a time out Michigan State. So Tom Izzo wants to talk this over with his team with 42. 5 to go. A coach who has less pedigree than Thomas would be criticized for something like this, and we've seen this become a groundswell for a rivalry. This is actually a coaching moment Tom Izzo and a rightful time out A team that struggling I'll tell you what he's saying. He's saying one of two things one. A fella's looking to score, but we don't think you're that good. I'm just gonna take a minute here and show you you're not. We've got to get to work. We've got to get the real work, not fake work, not talk work. Or he's saying Look, this'll second half I could live with in terms of offensive, basketball and execution. The shooting will come You're doing one of the truth. I never have a problem. When somebody calls late time outs. They're trying to get something done. And oh, by the way, people that's what they're paid for. That's right. But sometimes well, I'll say this. Sometimes it is for sure. Sometimes it is T O get him across. The other guy That's happened before Michigan State ball left wing three Lankford's no rebound and a hammer shot. On suing who went down really hard shoulder blades first onto this wood floor and he'll get a couple of free throws with 35.6 to go. I'm not saying it happens every time, but I know coaches have done that before. Yeah, you're saying Well, what would the point of Ezo being to call a time out to stay out here longer while you're getting drilled? You're saying if if Holtzman did I'm saying sometimes, you know, Yeah. If you did Christian top 16 I agree with just sit out here, Thomas. But I do think it's different in this season when you had basketball taken away from me last year. Anybody who says Well, you know, we got to go. We have this flight like a team, saying we want to get home and all that stuff. Everybody wants to be on the basketball court more, not less. Can I tell you something? Classic Championship game? We're down, two against think was Duke. We called time out. Our trainer tells coach Knight he coach If we go to overtime, we're not making our flight. We're not gonna be able to get to the game and Notre Dame We shot a three lost got on the flight. True story. Wow. Free throw good. 79 62 attacked by watching the lay in that rimmed out and the rebound for Tyler Young who cradles it like a small child. "Now Cone top of the key three short rebound battle four and hub grabs it at the top of the key over the big Court. Strike hop all the way to the hoop for the scoop shot that is up to no good Tony Sanders with the rebound up a good so the freshman keeping the Irish a little life and it's 50 37 13 Point lead for Virginia Tech. And folks, that's a good sign. Both freshmen showed some things tonight played with good effort in Hustle this whole team. Comes back next year, and they're joined by The player of the year, the reigning player of the year from the Ivy League transferring in next year because there is no Ivy League Play this year and all the Ivy leagues not playing in the pandemic. So you're kind of you. You're looking at the season two ways. Now you want to try to do as well as you can, obviously, about the only way to make the incidentally tournament right now, unless you just run. The table is to win the A C C tournament, but you also want to build. This is a class that came in extremely highly rated. Four guys in the top 100 the first time that's happened in the MiCabrera, The top of my head. I may be the first time ever and part of that might be because back in the sixties and seventies, they didn't have recruiting rankings. But you want guys to make the most of every opportunity. And hopefully that's exactly what happened in terms of those two young guys getting some quality minutes here tonight. So here's a lot Virginia, Texas, Donna tonight. We'll be Sabeti three points. We told you he was a past first. Guard. He missed all six of his shots from three point land in. A lot of those were in the second half when they were just burning clock and he ended up with the ball with the shot clock about to run out. He had three assists, two steals, No turnovers and 32 minutes. Hey, Moline ended up being the leading scorer for Virginia Tech 15 points. He's a very athletic guy. He's not spectacular, but he's one of those guys who's always kind of under the radar. Then you look up and he's been incredibly Productive. He ended up with the team high 15 points. He came in averaging two rebounds. He 64 but he was a 50 50 ball guy Tonight. He got nine rebounds. He had five assists. So not just because he scored the most points, but You know, he and Kev a la Luna, where their most valuable players alumina five of 10 shooting 14 points. 12 rebounds, three offensive. Three block shots in a steel for the 69 alumina Jalen Cohn, who started because Radford suspended and hurt the Irish big time. In the first game from three point land. He was four of 10 from three and had 18 and Blacksburg against the Irish. Ours wanted to take him out tonight. They did. He only had three points, one of five from 31 of six overall. He had one rebound with a blocked shot and assist two steals. And a couple of turnovers, but he was effective Justin Months effective. Two double double 14 points. 11 rebounds, so too tech players Got double doubles in a game where they only scored 62 points. I thought they let months Dragons pivot foot and get a little bit too physical inside. But he was very effective. Tip your cap. He also had three block shots and three assists so much alumina. Cone all very good. Let's go into the media room now, and Prentiss hub is meeting with the media. Yep. All right. First question will go to Tom Noi. Cell demoralizing is that when they punch in the mouth so early the way they did tonight? I mean, kind of tough, I mean, Shots were really fallen, and they came out really aggressive. I mean, but I think that we, uh way fall back a little bit on that first half. We've gotta tow nine points, so I think we Lord. Next double Go Patrick angle. Going to see what point in that first half did you kind of realize decide they're gonna take it upon yourself. When you Attacked off the dribble and keep some threes to try to get you guys going. I mean, I just wanted to make one in place for my teammates. See that everybody shot smartphone. Um They were trying to take away our jobs and stuff like that. So I just had to take it upon myself to try toe do whatever I can to make him my teammates win. Back to Tom Nolan. Honest once they're going to take the beat a team that's above you in the league standings this season. These guys play hard. Go to Patrick Angle. Seven played them twice this year. What makes their defense hard to hard to crack? Oh, Just like really good defense on they get up in pressure US and Stuff, but I think that we kind of beat ourselves a little bit of not being able to make shots that we usually make in the last couple games that we've been playing. I am, but they're they're ball pressure and Physicality. Thank very much. Prentice. Thanks for joining us Prentiss hub in the media room, doing what captains need to do, and that has come out and answer public questions. After a poor performance Now, Prentiss wasn't necessarily poor. But at this level, the individual stats don't matter. And Prentiss is not that kind of guy. I've been Through a few guys that were like that over the years, but very few British would much rather had no points here tonight. And a win, but Prentiss makes some good points. This Notre Dame team is going to Have to figure out a way. To beat these kinds of defense's Because now both Virginia Tech and Virginia have swept Notre Dame with a pack line like defense, and now.

Is it gonna be? December? Is it gonna be early December is gonna be Christmas is gonna be Jane. Where is gonna be all these other things? That damn boom December 1st training camp. First game of the season is happening on the 20 120 seconds, so It was just a lot. I can't even see her alive. He was just It was too much too kind of grass s O not but we're in it now. Like I said, I'm happy. Today's. You know Zoe already and we could focus on the season, but that's just a lot to process. And I think that's really important note, particularly the Clippers because they lost mantra is Harold. So a lot of people were wondering really even be as good as they were a year ago when they weren't good enough to get past the Lakers. And I think they are. Would you look at the new pieces? I think Sergio Baca fits better. Luke Kenard ultimately is going to be a little bit more versatile garden that spot even a guy like Nicolas Batum. Offensively is going to be a big help. So I like this Clippers team better. Lakers clearly added more talent, but they're just gonna take some time around into shape. This one to me was all about Paul George. They paid of superstar money. He gave him a superstar performance..

"Best outcome for anyone in the NFC East. Today. The Cowboys, as we just mentioned got beat by the Seahawks, coughing up a late lead is back in port today. Seahawks won by 15 points in the fourth quarter. Cowboys rallied to take the lead, but then let Russell Wilson drive it down in the last two plus minutes. Ah to victory from the jaws of defeat. Give Russell Wilson credit more sold and burying the Cowboys. But a loss is a loss is a loss. I mentioned the fact that the Giants were putrid against the 40 Niners, a injury ravaged 40 Niner team today and oh, by the way, the Washington football team was easily handled by the Browns, who, with the wind go to two and one, and they get above 500 for the first time. In six years. It's been a while since Cleveland fans could get up on a Monday morning and say, Let me check the paper. Let me check the website. Let me just make your yes. I have a winning football team in my town right now, because the Browns and keep that with their win today, so Cowboys laws Redskins lost. Giants lost Eagles tied the Eagles made up ground on everyone in their division despite playing a massively underwhelming 23 23 tie. Withy also winless Cincinnati Bengals Eagle stay winless toe, but the Bangles came and onto the Eagles came in. Oh, into. They both leave Philadelphia shaking their heads. At 02 and one. Those are just some of the highlights from the all again Don't go through others. Here's the way it's gonna work. I got a little two hour window to shoot the breeze with you guys today. That's what I like doing on Sunday nights after act is giving you more Evo more insight. More scores more knowledge on what is going on. In the National Football League. Yours truly gets to get on here and give it Ah, over to you. Give me a call on your squad today. Maybe in Joyous exaltation. Maybe in a ah murderous tone, depending on how your team did today. How it looked, whatever it is, you want to bring to the table. I'm here for you 855 to 124227. And after a wacky wild week three in the National Football League. Daytime. Well, we can't even go back to the Thursday night game. Miami Jacksonville wasn't terrible. It was a Fitz Magic night. He doesn't do it as often as he used to, But Ryan Fitzpatrick is one of the most Intriguing players in the National Football League over the last 20 years. He can look absolutely phenomenal or recon just absolutely kill you and throw you out of the game well, Thursday night against Jackson, Billy said. Not so fast. Mr Tung Abi Loa. Let me play a couple more weeks here before we make any changes in Miami, but then a wild daytime slate. That leads into a superior Sunday night matchup. We talk about all the good young quarterbacks in the National Football League to Pat Mahomes is of the world. Ah, the Lamar Jackson's of the world. The Baker Mayfield's Sam Darnold is still a young player. Herbert played very well for the charges today in a losing effort. Ah Tyler Kyla Murray played pretty well today did throw three picks. In a losing effort. Then you've got the veteran guys on the other side. Tom Brady played phenomenally for the Bucks today. Thank you very much in Denver in a town where he hasn't always had success. But ah, he was very good today for the boxes. They moved 2 to 11. We've got Aaron Rodgers. Ah, you got Russell Wilson do what he's doing. He's now a veteran quarterback. Probably putting M V P numbers up for the first three games season word end and there is never a time where it's too early to say you could have the MBA M V P discussion. In the NFL. After one week in baseball, you got to go atleast a couple of weeks. Ah NFL because it's only a 16 game schedule. Yeah. One game you got to start talking about the had the best week of weak one is basically what comes down to well, who's had the best three week run in the National Football League so far. That would be Russell Wilson, who wins again with the Seahawks and come from behind fashion. You have Cam Newton, who's reinventing himself in New England. As they beat the Patriots. They got a lot of help on the ground today. They had a bunch of guys run the ball well. Sony Macau nine carries 117 yards. Damn. That's a phenomenal yard per carry average. Birkett had AH, 6 49 yards in two touchdown. So Cam got some help from his backfield mates today, So we've got this compilation of quarterbacks in the National Football League, and I shouldn't leave Ben Roethlisberger out of it, because that was one of the showdowns. Between the new young guns and he established veteran quarterback He had Dijon Watson coming in owing to but certainly with his star rising Ben Roethlisberger to a No. But his stars still in question. Is he recuperated from the major surgery last season? Oh, he answered the question again today. Yeah, he's done just that another big day for Ben Roethlisberger and Philip Rivers, setting a couple records today. Hey, became only the sixth quarterback in NFL history to 12 for four touched 400 touchdowns and the sixth overall quarterback to throw for over 40,000 of these a 40,000 or 60,000 yards. I don't remember what I apologize for that. But Philip Rivers just keeps doing it from that same draft class as big Ben Roethlisberger. They got the young guns against the new guns All day here in the National Football League. Guess what. Always 60,000 thanks, ships. Esso on Ly, the sixth quarterback to told 60,000 yards Philip Rivers on Ly, the sixth quarterback to troll for touchdown passes. Philip Rivers. He's probably going to the Hall of Fame even without a Super Bowl ring to show for it. Maybe gets a date here for the cults who knows, But we had a whole bunch of showdowns between the young guns and a grizzled veterans. We've got two games left to go..

Americans and the right to vote: Why it's not easy for everyone to cast a ballot

"A conspiracy theory. Grow this large this quickly and be so divorced from reality. It basically goes like this. President Trump is terrified he's going to lose the election. And he's going to use the Postal Service to try to limit mail in voting as much as possible to in effect, disenfranchised Democrats and steal the race, just as he did with Russian interference in 2016. This conspiracy theory, however, has perhaps even less evidence than the Russia collusion theory. Over the next 15 to 20 minutes. We will systematically debunk this most ridiculous conspiracy theory. Way are not going to allow the president of the United States to dismantle the United States Post office and undermine the possibility that absentee votes could be used in the next election. And he also wants to do everything you can Two stirred out and the results of an election he thinks he's going to lose. So why do Republicans stand behind a Z attacks the most popular institution in the United States government? I don't understand why the president wants to block funding for the post office in order to prevent people from voting. That doesn't seem fair or right or leading. It doesn't seem like it is going to steal a lot of confidence among voters that their ballots are going to be counted right Once you start to realize that your entire states conduct elections with mail in ballots once you realize the history of the Postal Service is incredible Accomplishments, you know and how it's a backbone for the country. You know, you understand the stakes of what's going on here. You mentioned Republican leaders as well. Carl isn't this about moral bankruptcy of the Republican Party Democrats, aided by their allies in the left leaning media, been accusing President Trump of trying to rig the election by interfering with the United States Postal Service in an effort to have her mail in voting, But the simple truth is that there's no truth to this claim whatsoever. In May, a scathing report by the Government Accountability Office confirmed what's been widely known for more than a decade. The Postal Service is in deep, deep financial trouble since it's designated as an independent agency. It's not funded by tax money, but rather expected to support itself through the fees it charges for using its service. But as technology has made email and messaging communication far easier, and competitors such as FedEx, ups and Amazon have eaten into the post office's package delivery service, fewer and fewer people are paying to send mail. This has been a big and worsening problem. Since 2009 when the O designated the USPS as being at risk for fiscal insolvency, as it wrote in the report issued in May. Since Geo's 2009 high risk designation, the postal Services financial viability is progressively worsened due to declining mail volume. Increased employee compensation and benefit costs. An increased unfunded liabilities and debt. First class mail volume has declined 44% since fiscal year 2006. Additionally, employee compensation and benefits costs have been increasing, although the Postal Service's workforce declined from about 786,000 in fiscal year 2007. To about 617,000 In fiscal year 2013. The USPS is workforce increased to about 630,000 in fiscal year 2019. Finally, total unfunded liabilities and debt continue their steady upward trend. Now, this has resulted in the post office, losing roughly 78 $1,000,000 from 2007 to 2019. Senator Barack Obama recognize this way back in 2008 while he was campaigning for president, if you think about it Ups and FedEx. They're doing just fine. It's it's the post office is always a problem. When President Obama took office, his administration attempted to ease the financial crush on the post office by altering collection routes in removing mailboxes that simply weren't being used. In the past 20 years, The Washington Post reported. Back in 9 202,000 mail boxes have vanished from city streets, rural routes in suburban neighborhoods Mohr than the 175,000 that remain. Between 2011 and 2016 The Obama administration ordered an additional 14,000 mailboxes removed because they were underperforming, which the Post office defines his collecting fewer than 25 pieces of mail per day. This routine elimination of mailboxes to consolidate mail collection and keep operational costs down has continued since President Trump was inaugurated in 2017. But now President Obama and his vice president Joe Biden, are casting this as an attempt by Trump to keep people from voting. By mail as president, Obama told his former advisor David Plouffe, on a podcast this past week. What we've never seen before, is President say, I'm goingto tryto actively kneecap the Postal Service encourage voting and I will be explicit about the reason I'm doing the postmaster general said, would delay the approaching liquidity crisis. That was all the aid for the Postal Service in the cares act completely. Separately, The bill also gave $400 million to something called the Election Assistance Commission for distribution to states to prevent, prepare for and respond to Corona virus domestically or internationally for the 2020 federal election cycle. This, however, wasn't enough for Democrats and they're now demanding a $25 billion bailout for the post office in the next round of Corona virus relief funding, as well as $3.5 billion earmarked for mail and voting on Fox Business Network President Trump said. Well, that was simply too much. You know, there's nothing wrong with getting out and voting. You get out and vote. They voted during World War one and World War two. They should have voter ID because the Democrats scammed the system, but it's two of the items are the post Office and the 3.5 $1,000,000,000 The mail and voting Now, if we don't make a deal, that means you don't get the money. That means they can't have Universal mail in voting that just can't have it. So you know, crazy will be many more just nature. Now Democrats have interpreted this, says Trump, admitting he's deliberately trying to sabotage mail in voting by preventing the passage of desperately needed funding for it. But this claim to falters under the way to the fact of the post office can already handle the expected flood of mailed ballots this November. According to the Postal Service's annual report. In fiscal year 2019 USPS handled 142.5 1,000,000,000 pieces of mail on a typical day, the report notes are 633,000 employees physically process and deliver 471 male pieces to nearly 160 million delivery points. Now this year, That number is higher because the Postal Service has been delivering stimulus checks as well, A census forms now those alone added about 450 million additional pieces of mail. In 2016 roughly 136 million Americans voted in the presidential election. The number's probably going to be a little bit higher this year. If official set ballots to every single American who's registered to vote. That's about 158 million people, and then 140 million people returned ballots. The roughly 298 million pieces of mail handled over the course of several weeks would be well within the Postal Service's ability to handle them all. Now. Officials, of course, won't send a ballot to every American who's registered to vote, and not every voter will vote This too. His false. The changes were ordered to streamline mail collection and limit mail carrier overtime costs, which top $1 billion per year, as the Washington Times reported. In the past, postal delivery worked this way Ah, worker would arrive in the morning and work on various things in the office. Sorting mail handling holds on mail waiting for incoming mail to arrive. To prepare for delivery that often involved waiting around for hours and then starting an actual delivery route later in the day once started, a route has to be finished, and that involved workers going into overtime as they delivered through their route as evening approached. Did. Joyce plan, which is now being implemented in a pilot program in about 200 cities is called expedited to ST Afternoon Sort. A Shin or esa es un during a worker will arrive in the morning. Collect all the mail that was ready to go out and head out for delivery. It's known as retrieve load and go. Then, after finishing the delivery route, the carrier would return to the office and do in the afternoon. The office work that used to be done in the morning that way, when the end of his or her shift arrived, That would be the end of the workday. No overtime would be incurred. Mail that arrived to the office in the afternoon. While the carrier was doing office work would be delivered in the next morning's route. It would be ready and waiting with the carrier arrived for retrieve load and go. The effect to customers would be that mail was delivered to the office in the afternoon. It would be delivered the next morning. Instead of that evening, the effect of the Postal Service would be to save an enormous amount of money in overtime costs, streamlining operations and making the postal service more effective. However, this has been cast as mail carriers simply leaving pieces of mail, especially mailed in ballots on the floor for days. For weeks at a time. There's no evidence to support this baseless allegation. Justus. There's no evidence to support the notion that the Trump Administration has been removing mailboxes or mail sorting machines in an effort to a happier mail in voting. Mail in voting might be impacted by not but not by postal service operations but rather by individual state laws, which make mail in voting cumbersome, especially in New York, where a congressional primary conducted at the end of June still doesn't have a declared winner by the middle of August. The Postal Service, in other words, can easily handle mailed in balance. It doesn't need a $25 billion bailout, and it doesn't need $3.5 billion on top of the $400 million that has already been earmarked specifically for mail in voting. The Postal Service will remain fiscally solvent at least until the end of 2021 but efforts to change it efforts listening to the Dan O'Donnell show. Now Twitter and Facebook have done their level best to try to make sure that misinformation about elections nothing that could undermine faith in elections is allowed on their platforms, except for these pictures of mailboxes in Wisconsin. Of all places. That are piled up. They've been taken off the streets. Trump doesn't want you to be ableto Drop your piece of mail in a mailbox. Well, what these pictures Don't point out is these are piled up. Sure, at a facility that refurbishes the mail boxes to put them back on the streets. It's always got a stack of mail boxes outside because it's working on them. Refurbish them, then this idea that sorting machines and mail boxes have been ripped off of the streets in the last couple of months so that we can vote by mail is nonsensical. Unless you're willing to tell me. That Barack Obama and Joe Biden, who saw over 2011 and 2016 5 years. The removal of 14,000 mailboxes and 200,000 mailboxes removed in the years before that. Unless you're willing to tell me that they're part of the conspiracy. You're almost forced to admit that there is simply no evidence behind this, but what's remarkable to me? Is how quickly this became mainstream and it got me thinking. Well, wait a second. Wait a second. Wait a second. If Joe Biden is up by as much as the polls suggest he is 10 to 12 points. Why would Democrats suddenly be trying to cast doubt on an election? Right? Wasn't this Almost exactly four years ago. What President Trump was supposedly doing August of 2016 when the first reports on the eve of the Democratic National Convention about election hacks and Russian interference, and all of this started coming out. President Trump's first said that he was worried that the election might be rigged. You might remember President Obama rose Garden press conference said. How would you even rig the presidential election? Donald Trump is whining about losing an election that hasn't even happened yet. The idea was that Trump was going to cast doubt on the legitimate legitimacy of the election because he knew he was going to lose. Remember the pole similarly showed him down 10 15 points. He had no chance of beating Hillary Clinton. So he was preemptively whining about the fact that Clinton and her cronies we're going to use massive vote fraud to cheat. Why are Democrats doing this? When their candidate is up 10 points. Maybe it has something to do. With this. A new CNN poll finds that 50% of registered voters back the Biden Harris presidential ticket. While 46% say they support Trump and Pence right at the polls, margin of error plus or minus 4% points. There's a new CNN poll. Across 15 battleground states. Biden has the backing of 49% of registered voters while Trump lands at 48%. In other words, that massive lead doesn't actually

"And talk with co Most Bill O'Neill, Emily. We do see a strong amount of support for the overall message. Don't wait. We found that a majority of Americans supported the Black lives matter movement and that was across different races and ethnicities, including a majority of white people. Now, however, when it comes to defunding Police Department's there clearly is some pause in these numbers as well. Right. We found a lot less. We didn't find majority support for cutting back police funds spend more money on social services. 40% of Americans supported such a move and 55% opposed. That included majorities a majority of Democrats who supported cutting back funding for police departments and spending that money on social services instead. But a small 14% my minority of Republicans. The same. 84% of Republicans are opposed to defending the police and among independents, 53% were opposed, and 42% were in support. Now. The survey also took a look at the removal of statues and symbols that may be tied to the slavery era. The civil war. And there is some opposition to that as well, Right. We've found that there were narrow majorities of people saying they oppose removing public statues honoring Confederate generals, 43% of Americans supported their removal. A wide majority of Republicans and a small majority of independence are opposed to this, while 74% of Democrats supported the removal of statues of Confederate general. But we also asked about removing statues of former U S presidents who owned enslaved people, and an even greater share of Americans are opposed to that 68%. Totally. Is there any sense that these numbers may be shifting? His time has gone by that. I don't have earlier measurement of how people feel about taking down statues. But we've looked at some of these questions We've asked in the past. Two about race in America and police as well, and one of the things we asked about was whether black people and other minorities receive equal treatment as white people in the criminal justice system. And in the question when we asked this this week, we found that 69% of Americans said that white people do not hurt that black people and other minorities do not receive equal treatment of white people in the criminal justice system, and that was a 15 point from when we last asked in 2014 That's polling analyst Emily Gus can read more online at washingtonpost dot com.
