"That is. When we went around. We had lunch. Then there was a tour, Mrs. All set up by my friend David Rimmer. Ah, lot. This is a long while ago and we get a tour of the facility, including going inside where people are running the airline. Basically, there's like one area where guys looking at weather maps and you see all these dots all these planes? It's fascinating to see What they do. All of it may be computerized. Now who knows? But be that as it man made a lot of people. A couple of years later, I'm standing out at Metro Airport at a gate and in fact, David rumors flying in from New York meeting me there in Detroit and we get on a plane. We were getting out of plain to either Florida or the Bahamas. I can't remember. We did a nationally syndicated travel show with the time that ramen wjr matter of fact, many years ago. And we were going to take a cruise and do a story on cruising. And it was starting to get close to when we had to board our plane. And I went up to the gate. And I said, Excuse me. I have a friend coming in on flight, whatever it was, and he's supposed to be here in minutes. And he said the guy at the gate so yeah, well, unfortunately, your friend in about 14 other people are going to miss this flight. I said, Well, you already know that. Yeah. They're just about to land. But I gotta load this plane up and get it out of here. And I said, Well, if you got like 15 people who you know are going to be here in minutes. Shouldn't you hold up the plains so that you don't take off And then now, all of a sudden you've got 15 people. You've got to put up in a hotel and many of them. I'm sure flying to wherever it was Miami or Bahamas to get on a cruise ship. They're gonna miss their crews. Well, that's the way it goes. And I thought, Well, that's kind of ridiculous. So I go through my little book I always had with me with names and numbers and I call a guy I call a guy in the bowels of the Minneapolis flight Center for Northwest at the time. And I get this guy on the phone and I introduced myself. Hi. I'm Paul W. Smith. I'm in Detroit at Metro Airport and I met Gate number 37. Whatever and this plane is going to leave. And I know you handle all these things. So if you just wait 10 minutes you're gonna have 15 more people on the plane that is supposed to be on there. You're not gonna have toe put him up in hotels pay for meals, and they won't miss their crews. And he's not really paying attention to me. And.

So what she did, and she said she just went to one of them local grocery stores. I think, semdex that a fresh one and it all worked out fine. Oh, so it's okay, so she you could say Sharon, she dodged a tragedy. She avoided tragedy at the last minute. Quick thinker that tell you that that's the only way you can avoid the tragedy. Thank you, Sharon. Denise is on the South side. Did he share with us? If you would please your turkey day tragedy. Well again. It was the in laws, but I'm doing it. I was going out here. Wait. I think it was maybe our second We were married a couple of years. It was the 2nd and 3rd time. I had cooked Thanksgiving dinner and put the turkey and you have it. Again and got time to pull it out. And I think somewhere probably close towards the end of cook time the oven died so some parts of the turkey were still wrong. Yeah. So we ended up having to nuke it way all eight. Pretty much the size and candle up the turkey alone and the sad part Woz. This was our future sister in law's first Thanksgiving with us. It left a hell of an impression. Thanks, Denise. Maybe there was a sabotage effort Marcia and Brandon with a similar text. Everything was going well until our power went out for three hours. Yeah. For one for my husband and I were married the weekend before Thanksgiving 48 years ago, we had a hard time deciding which parents House to go for Thanksgiving dinner. Here's the in life. Think again. What's being lost? So we did both. We were really stuffed. But the problem was no one gave us leftovers to take home being I never cooked before I got married. I decided to make our own turkey dinner. I called my mom to find out how to make the stuffing and did it What she thought I would have known what she thought is, I would have known that she used dry bread, not fresh bread. Needless to say, I used fresh bread. The Turkey was great, but my husband said I invented glue. The stuffing was like eating glue. That could be an honest mistake, though. If you're just not experienced. I don't know that the bread has to be. Dry or a little bit stale, right? Matthew in West Allis. Let's see here. I was 13 years old. Oh, Um Okay? Let's see. Can I skip that one? I'm gonna have to edit that one will come back to that one. He's hard T to read to edit. Yeah, we'll work on that one. It's go to the phones. Uh, I'll meet you folks know what happens behind the feet. John is in Germantown, John, your Turkey day tragedy. Yes, God first by Thanksgiving. Yeah, with you. You're a good one, Um, back in about 1985. My father's always did the Thanksgiving dinner and, uh, The everything was on the table when he was just waiting for the cranberries, and he had him boiling and they were all done. And then he put him in a glass bowl to bring it to the table. As he was bringing that ball to the table. The hot cram Bors, maybe from the cold ball. The poll. The glass ball blew up. My God had cut his wrist. Oh, gosh. So my father put a band aid on it wrapped it up. We sat made dinner and then he my mom took him to the hospital. And they were there and they patched the ball up. And when the doctor came in He had to spend an extra hour after he was all patched up to talk to the psychiatrist that came in because they were worried that this wasn't an act of madness. He said. Well, you know, it's the holidays and people get depressed. Are you sure this is how it happened? So You missed my father for, like the last 2.5 hours with the family there and way survived. Everything was okay. Just so I mean, and then imagine saying, No, no, no, This is not what you think It is. My bowl of cranberries exploded. Okay, buddy, Sure. Spontaneous combusting cranberries. Wow. That's something to remember this time of year. Thank you, Johnny, have a happy Thanksgiving. 85561616 20 Turkey Day. Tragedy. There's a couple here that may take the cake. "I was gone last week is the homicide numbers. I made it a point. Just to maybe only check in every so often. I'm sure that was a huge topic for you and Rob Kendall, who was filling in for me last week. What's the latest Unfortunately, when you look at the numbers for July so far and again today is only the 13th. When we were 12 for 12 12 homicides in the 1st 12 days here in Indianapolis, we're now on pace. For over 200 homicides in the city. Now, mind you. The record is 178. We hit that back in 2018. We just missed it last year Last year was not a record number. 2018 Wass. So far, there have been at least 119 people killed in homicides in Indianapolis this year alone, and it's only July 13th. This is ridiculous over the weekend. 15 people shot three stabbed five killed. That's just Friday through Sunday and on Friday We had Reverend Charles Harrison on this programme from the Barnes United Methodist Church and, of course, the 10 point coalition. He told us on Friday that he was going to get some some clergy members together and they're going to try to work out a plan. With the hopes of presenting it to the mayor, because if you've been following the story, you'll know that Mayor Hawks that has had no interest at all in working with Reverend Harrison and the 10 point coalition has had no interest in all. So Friday. We spoke with the Rev. He said He's going to have a big announcement on Sunday, and he held a press conference. And along with some other clergy members. They put together a big plan, so I'm kind of lay this out for you right now. Tell me what you think about this. This is from Reverend Harrison and his group of clergy and community leaders. They want to put together a plan along with the I M P D. To meet with Mayor Hawk set and they've got 25 recommendations. Now I'm being told that Mayor Hawk set has actually agreed to meet with Reverend Harrison and chief Randall Taylor. So that's a step in the right direction. I think Yeah. Okay. No credit for something you should have been doing weeks ago. Sure, Okay, fine. It's a step in the right direction. They're calling on neighborhood groups, community centers, faith based groups to create violence free zones in crime hot spots. Now how they want to do. This is basically kind of go with the 10 point plan. You find a bunch of brave Oh, jesus there called that have been around the neighborhood for a long time willing to look the streets of some of these hot spot areas just to kind of make it like a neighborhood patrol. They plan to hold public safety walks in these areas. The first one's going to be this Thursday in Hall Ville near the West Side. They're going to have a piece in the streets marketing campaign, and they're asking religious organizations to promote peace and worship services during the month of August all of that, along with the 25 recommendations coming from Reverend Harrison that he will be rolling out to the mayor's office this week. Amazing he's needs three rewarded, commended. Whatever he can't do it all himself, though. That's my whole point. We've we've been talking to the reverend a long time now from the 10 point coalition. He can only do so much deserves to be recognized. For all they're doing a 10 point and Reverend Harrison to push forward and positive change. I I've been saying this for weeks. I mean way don't need to defund the police. We need more police. We had a steep decline and applications for the I m p d from last year. Mork Community policing Mohr, 10 point coalitions patrolling high crime areas and in mortgage dialogue. Like you said, I guess I was kind of You know, grumpy about the you know, Mayor Hogg said, finally doing them the honor of meeting with them, But they're okay. I said it before. I'll stand with that more dialogue between community leaders and, of course, more investments in places like A shepherd community and what cracks me up. Is there some reporters in the city at various media outlets that go out of their way to kind of troll Reverend Harrison here, right. They say that he's doing it just for the attention, and his plan doesn't really work. It always does is beat his chest and we asked him about that on Friday, and, you know, he says that it kind of rubs him the wrong way. It's only human nature. To feel unappreciated sometimes, but ultimately it's not about that. It's trying to get this place back to where it wass you know, 789 years ago. Not to the point where we're at right now, where we are on pace for 200 homicides. There was an early morning a vote today in regards to back to school, the MST of Washington Township. They had a big vote earlier today. And they've decided that they're going to become the first school system in Marion County to make the decision that there going straight online classes the virtual classes from north Central And all the feeder schools, those three middle schools, eight elementary schools a huge blow a huge failure in leadership in a huge disappointment, Teo the people that were looking forward to going back to school and starting on time, especially when they send out Ah, message on June 20th. See, And yet we do plan to start on time. Five days a week in person. Huge disappointment, and Allie Brown, the Indianapolis City County councillor, their district five hopes that Mohr schools they're going to follow suit. That was what she said in her. Press conference today. Absolutely stunning. Kids need to go back to school society does not function Normally, If kids are not back in school kids are virtually a zero risk.
