A highlight from 1261. Fed Meeting vs. Crypto LIVE | Jerome Powell + Inflation Sentiment Analysis

"All right, so welcome in everybody to the live stream today. We'll be breaking down the FOMC meeting and also talk a little bit about what Chair Powell has decided to do along with the Board of Governors and break down all that, what kind of implications this might have on the market for you. It's going to be a good one. My name is Paul Beyer and welcome back in the Tech Path. All right, so joining, of course, today we will be doing our normal live stream where we air the Fed meeting. And it's not necessarily the meeting, but it's the remarks. It's the press conference after the meeting, which obviously we've got news in now that there is no rate hike. So whether you think that's a good thing or a bad thing, I think the key here is that the Fed has continued to hold this position of softening now is and can they navigate a soft landing is the real question. I think this is going to be the one that we'll have going into this. We're probably going to take, I think we may take some questions. It depends on how long Chair Powell talks. So make sure and drop some of those over on the side. And if this is your first time here on the channel, all I would ask is that you subscribe. We do a lot of hard work and research to hopefully bring the best news content out there in the crypto and blockchain space to you. So just hit that little subscribe button. And if you can hit the little bell, it's going to give of you notifications when we go live, just like this one right here. So we'll break in and all that. Just to let you guys know, so when the Fed meets every month to every two months, depending on the on the period of time, basically you have a board of governors that comes together. They start working through all of the data that comes in from the market. And then at that point, they start to make the final decision of how they're going to go interest about rate hikes or potentially interest rate declines. So we'll be airing Chair Powell's speech when he addresses the press corps here in a bit. So just be on the lookout for that. They are probably about 10 to 15 minutes away. We'll go through some things here today I want to talk about today. First of all, how would Bitcoin react to the Fed's interest rate decision? Obviously, right now we're starting to see Bitcoin do a little bit of slight move down. But that's my question is, do we continue to see Bitcoin in more of a holding pattern right now with where it has been? Or if you look at the chart, let me kind of bring up the Bitcoin chart real quick and I'll just jump over to my chart. And I'm on the five minute chart right now. But as you can kind of see, let me go to the one hour so we can kind of push that out for the last couple of days. You can kind of see a little bit of that incline that we've had over the past few days where Bitcoin slipped right into that $27 .4K range at its high and it started to adjust off of that. And I think this is the scenario that I think a lot of people are looking at. And that is when you consider the current status of the macro pressure that the markets are getting. Remember the S &P and I'm going to show you guys some cool things. Let me jump over to the S &P real quick because this is something that we've been doing here on our power index or our market sentiment index and that is starting to measure a little bit more of the S &P compared to what's happening in crypto. Right now I'm looking just at the one hour but this was the decline that we've seen in the S &P 500 which of course has started to adjust a little bit. Now some of that may be coming from the softening in the market itself. Let me jump over to this article here because I want to go back to this point on Bitcoin. Fed's interest rate decision everybody's expected today did come in at what was expected being no interest rate hike. However some experts also said that low volatility may continue after Fed's decision and investors expecting high volatility in the Bitcoin price may be disappointed. I am in somewhat agreement with that. Now there are two I guess two camps thinking of where this direction may go and what it really boils down to is two things. One of course is going to be the situation of when the Fed does pivot and the other is going to be how much lagging data is coming in in the last quarter because here we are going into Q4 October 1st. Once we start to move into Q4 we're going to start to see one the Q3 earnings that will give us some indicators of how most of these companies are doing which will cause some action on the S &P 500. And then with that you are also going to get lagging data on jobs. You're going to be lagging data on general scenarios that are market pressures coming things like the oil market. And then what we'll see is I still believe is the CRE market the commercial real estate market. That's going to be the one to watch for. And that is my concern if we continue to see a little bit of a decline there. Now the other question that plays into this is how sticky will inflation be during this last quarter because all of what we could see and including possibly another quarter point and we'll probably hear this from Chair Powell here in a few minutes when he comes on to address the press is whether or not we will see another quarter basis points rise in the fourth quarter of this year and how that sets up Q1 and Q2 for 2024. Now you have to be thinking about what is this going to do around an election year. You've got a lot happening with the UAW. That's the United Auto Workers strike potentially looming. Biden administration is pushing hard to try to position against that along with what's happening on the labor market tightening somewhat. And then of course what we've seen with sticky inflation. So all of this was really playing into when is that bottom really in. Now that's the question mark for Bitcoin, Ethereum and some of the blue chip assets. Have we started to see maybe a little bit of that swoop off of the bottom and started that into that stabilization. And I'll show you guys some examples of that. But here's the U .S. Federal Reserve keeping rates elevated through 2024. This is the concern that I think slows things down a little bit in the general market. And that is that if BlackRock is right and that if we continue to see higher rates interest rates through 2024. Now when I say higher he could still pivot and start that quarter point softening of a market. That in itself would most likely send the markets into a tizzy. But I think the other issue is whether or not we actually reach the scenario of an inflation cap that actually gets hit by consumer price index which obviously will affect consumer spending all those kind of things. And that starts to roll into the potential of a recession. And that is the real question mark looming here right now. A couple of points I want to hit out on this article on BlackRock. BlackRock's head of global fundamental income strategy agreed that the Fed is unlikely to change rates. Everybody's right on that. But the big deal is since March 2022 the Fed has increased rates 11 times to fight soaring inflation. And we've got a few charts I'll show you here in a minute of the history of inflation and the reaction of markets and how they've been able to respond. What you see there right there in 2023 is where we are now. But obviously this back in the 1980s when we were at pretty much all time inflation hits. Additionally if you guys did not follow this Citigroup announced the Fed interest rate forecast for September and November. This is another one that I think is important. From now on markets will price and how long interest rates will remain high and rather than whether there'll be an increase in interest rates. And that's my point is if we're talking about all of 2024 seeing a five plus interest rate Fed fund rate that's going to continue to pour money into the money market overall. And I think that's the other scenario especially when you look at the amount of liquidity that's going to be setting in on the sideline. So that's another factor into 2024 because you've got the halving coming with Bitcoin. You have a new election year coming in and then you have these crazy scenarios playing in on all these market pressures coming in from the macro side of things and that's providing that we don't end up with a united autowork because I think if we get a strike in the car market that could have some pretty big effects possibly even actually be one of the things that pushes us into recession because of how the auto mobile industry is so connected to so many different job industries so many sectors and obviously part of what we'll see in terms of just consumer pricing. Other parts on this I wanted to show this is kind of the the nominal Fed funds target rate increase during the FOMC tightening episodes. This goes all the way back to 1983. And this is good because it shows you how quickly this is us right now in the green the twenty two twenty three range. Look how quickly we've accelerated up that chart versus if you look at the 2004 to 06 tightening all the way back to the 2015 to 18 very slow and steady until we had the you know what. And then back here in the 80s which was really kind of that flat line and then boom that heavy acceleration that we had in the early 80s when we really started to see kind of a redefinition of what high inflation truly was. And I don't know how many of you guys are around. I was still in high school at the time but but it this kind of shows where we could be. Now that's the question mark right now because if we stay at this rate right here if we start flat lining right here what maybe we'll have a little bit of this kind of effect back in the 80s where before we saw that last two to three point raise. And that's the concern I have is if we do see any kind of somewhat tentative recovery here in the Q1 possibly even in Q2 does the Fed look at 2024 data and start to reposition. I still believe that we are at the end of this cycle.

A highlight from The future trajectory of AI in customer experience, with Sham Aziz

"Hello there, boys and girls, welcome to Vuexworld. Sorry about the delayed intro there. I just want to make sure that this setup is actually working because last time it wasn't and we lost the first 15 minutes of an epic interview with yell .com. And so if you are tuning in on LinkedIn, drop us a message on the chat there. Let me know that it's all working and we're live and kicking. The same thing if you're tuning in on YouTube. Welcome to Vuexworld. I am in a slightly renewed filming space. It's not quite the end result. We're going to have another setup here once I've finished it off, but here we are. I've managed to finally move into my office, which I've been dreaming about for the last five and a half years and working on for the last God knows how many months, but here we are. So thank you for joining us today. We're going to have an epic conversation. I'm going to welcome out in just one moment, Sham Aziz, who is the head of customer service at Selfages. And we're going to have a very good conversation about generally the state of AI, the current potential, future potential and thoughts around how to utilize artificial intelligence, large language models and things like that for the purposes of improving customer experience, improving customer service and much, much more. As always, if you do have some questions, please do stick them in the chat and we will do our very best to answer them. If you are not registered to our webinar this week on Thursday, I suggest that you do just that. We might touch on some of the topics at a high level in this conversation, but on Thursday, we're going to be showing you specifically how you can blend together large language models and traditional NLU based intent based systems to get the best of both worlds and actually put large language models into practice. If any of you are at the voice and AI summit, or if any of you have been working on this stuff for the last number of years, like we have, you will know that it's not just as simple as giving a large language model, a bunch of PDFs and sticking it live on your website and your way to the races. There is a lot more involved than that. And actually in some cases, for some use cases, large language models are not always an ideal choice. However, if you can harness them correctly and find the areas and the capabilities where they do perform well and consistently, you can get some great value from them in some important use cases. So we're going to be joined by ServiceBot CEO Cathal McLoyne on Thursday. And we're going to get into detail about that. So if you want to register, which I hope you will, you can just go to vux .world, click on the events tab and you can register there and then to be there live and direct this Thursday. But now the main event, it is now time for me to welcome Sham Aziz from Selfridges. Sham, welcome to VUX world, my friend. Hey, thank you. Much appreciated.

"They're just working out the language on a new contract renewal. We don't have much in the way of detail, but I can let you know these two sides have been added for five consecutive days with the aim of resolving a strike that began at the beginning of the month of May. U .S. Treasury yield steady right now. We've got a 10 -year at 4 .44 percent. Two -year Treasury at 5 .10. The dollar a weaker, little not by much. The yen steady 148 .40. And the offshore Chinese yuan a little stronger here at 7 spot 2 against .970 the greenback. We'll take another look at markets in 15 minutes. Global Sports is next. Dan Schwartzman's here with that, Danny. Hey Doug, let's start off with European football. Arsenal and Tottenham, the North London Derby. They ended a two -all draw. They both now are 4 -2 -0 on this season. Brighton is now 5 -0 and won a 3 -1 win over Bournemouth. Chelsea continues to struggle and not score goals. They're 14th place right now in the league table. They lose to Aston Villa 1 -0. Liverpool over West Ham 3 -1. Newcastle United dominate Sheffield United 8 -0. The

"This is Doug Green, and I'm the publisher of Telecom Reseller, and I'm very, very pleased to have with us today Yash Gauda, who's the General Manager of Marriott Courtyard in Brampton, Ontario, which is in the Greater Toronto Area. Yash, thank you very much for joining me today. Pleasure, pleasure, Steve. Thank you. Well, you know, this is something I don't get to do that often. Instead of my usual interview of people that are professionals inside the telecommunications market and the IT market, this time we're bringing our listeners and watchers a special podcast of somebody very special who runs an organization, runs a hospitality organization in a major metropolitan area, and basically can give us some insight on the impact of how a change in the use of technology impacted the function of that technology itself and also helped the organization overall. So we're going to be getting into that in just a second. What we will be talking about specifically is how eMetroTel's GalaxyExpand replaced a previous Mitel product. So Yash, you're the General Manager of the Marriott Courtyard, and your hotel basically implemented this new phone system. Can you tell us a little bit about your Marriott facility? Yeah, sure, Steve. Again, my name is Yash, the General Manager at Marriott Courtyard, Brampton Hotel, and we are one of the biggest hotels in Brampton in terms of rooms or inventory. We have 160 rooms with a huge banqueting space. So we are one of the upscale hotels in Brampton. So that's very interesting. You're a very prominent property. It's something that people like to use and so on. So you know, what I want to understand a little bit to begin with is, why did you make this change? Oh, the moving over to eMetroTel? Okay, this is a pretty, like, how do I say it was a coincidence that got through Joseph. So eventually we had Mitel as our telecommunication system, and all of a sudden our voice messaging system went down in the hotel. So all the back office phones or even the guest phones, if someone had to leave a message to them. So yeah, the whole system went down and we had an old partner who used to service Mitel and I was trying to reach that particular gentleman, Myron, like several times a day. And like, I think nonstop, tried reaching him at least every day for a period of 15 to 20 days. And one day, but the irony was, his phone was ringing. And one day the phone was answered and it was answered by Joseph. So then I started talking to Joseph and then I told him that I need to get in touch with Myron and this is our situation. And then I came to know that Myron had passed away and Joseph took over his accounts. So then that is the time that where I established a connection with Joseph and I briefed him on our issues that was happening in the hotel. And he immediately put me on to his other colleague, Rakshith, started to helping me out in rectifying the current issue that we had. And this is how we got into e -metro rel and they tried to resolve it remotely, but it couldn't happen because the server was down and they never knew it. So Rakshith passed by the hotel. He had a look at the entire existing system. And then I think so he did try to reach out to Mitel and see what was happening. And again, the system, since it was outdated, Rakshith and Joseph came up with a new proposal with e -metro tel and that's how it started. So it literally sounds like a very interesting story of literally going from one generation to a new generation of product and thinking and outlook. So now you're talking to basically company representing e -metro tel. So how did you end up migrating to the e -metro tel system that you chose? The first when I started communicating with Joseph and Rakshith, even though they are not one of the key players in our industry, but their integrity, their honesty in helping me out, that is what influenced me to go with them, because that is one thing that I truly believe in, even though they are getting into new without any experience having done any prior work with hotels and so on. But what influenced me was their honesty and integrity to help the clients. So that is where it started. And they gave me a couple of proposals with the e -metro tel itself and then went through the proposals with our corporate office. And the best part was, again, for us, without even redoing a lot of wiring work, just working at the back end with the server room and changing the main equipment itself. That was awesome. The interruption was bare minimal. If you don't mind, take a closer look at that, because I think all those points are very interesting one by one. So to begin with, as a customer and as a non -technical person, did you expect that there was going to be sort of a physical replacement of the same thing, one with another? Was that initially what you thought would happen? I was thinking, yes, it was going to be a swap of the machines, but when they proposed me with the different equipments and so on and what each functionality would be, then I was like, yeah, I was able to understand it much better. So I think initially this is very interesting. There's no rewiring and you were able to keep basically your bell phone lines in place. Everything was intact. Only the thing that was moved was all the Mitel equipments was switched to e -metro tel, keeping all the wiring, everything intact. So that's a lot less disruptive, probably a lot less expensive in terms of actually implementation. And then I understand that the solution that ultimately came in is basically on one rack, just one box. Yes, just one rack. Yes. Okay. And is that actually like literally the footprint smaller than whatever was there before? Oh, yes. Before, like again, this was an old system and these were like a huge system. There were multiple of them, like four or five of them, but now everything is consolerated to one. And one. And then let's talk about what you've got there. So basically it has the PBX functionality that you had before. Correct. So that is, I think we have an Infinity 5010W console and expansion, I guess. And then actually it solves the problem that initially started this whole thing. The voicemail is operating. Correct. And there's a lot less space, probably a lot less heat and energy being used. So let's sort of bump that up to how it impacts your job. Your ultimate job, I take it, is to make the people that are staying at your hotel happy. Has it really impacted that? Has it impacted your ability to do that? Yes. The important thing is like we are a hotel and the phone has to be buzzing all the time. So if the phone doesn't buzz, that means something is wrong. So earlier we had the issues where the phone was not working and so on. And even the functionality of the new console and even the back office phones are all, it's amazing. We should stay on this point because as a hotel manager, you have the burden of being, it's not just like an office, people in a sense are residing there at least for an evening or two. And so there's all sorts of safety and other issues that are involved in making sure that the phone is perfect. Correct. So, you know, e -metro hotel is a network of certified resellers. Was the migration process that you're describing, was that difficult or hard? No, no, very, very easy. To be honest, like once the new system, the back office phones were shipped to the hotel, so it was like I could install it myself with the help of Rakshith and Joseph. Because they had programmed the phones prior, I guess, and when it was shipped to us. So then again, I was with them on the call and he was guiding me how to activate it and so on. It was easy. Like me not being a technical guy, like installing the phones at the back of the offices was easy. You know, yours is a very difficult job because you're literally running a 24 -hour business, 24 hours a day, 24 -hour desk, residents are coming and going and so on. So how fast, you know, how fast did this all happen? Like the downtime, I can say about the, see, I would say the important thing is the main console. So when that was being like 10 minutes, I guess. 10 minutes? Yeah, 10 to 15 minutes. That's it. And you know, you came in to the office one morning or one afternoon. Was it the same shift that you began and then later at the end of that shift, there was a new phone system in place? Yes, it's like it was Rakshith who was there in the property from his solution. So yeah, I was with him. So he came in the morning, started working one thing at a time. And then yeah, it was the same as I came in the morning. No interruption. As I said, when the telephone, the main console was being put in place, so it's about 10 to 15 minutes for it to reboot and restart and so on. So yeah, maximum. And since this has been working, has it actually worked better for you than the old system? Yes, Ali, in terms of options -wise, yes, this has been worked out much better. So, you know, you were mentioning earlier, you gave us a little bit of background how you ended up back with the ACE security services implementing the solution. And I was interested in understanding that, you know, there was a technological and there were product choices and so on. But I was fascinated by the fact that it ultimately came down to people. Correct, yeah. It is like, see, you need to give options to the new people who are getting into entrepreneurship and so on. Because again, they have the zeal, you know, to excel. So when you go with the bigger companies, what happens is then again, the same process. It's just that, okay, the code, the shipment and all that thing and the scheduling of the people and so on. But here is a new company, ACE solution. Again, as I told you, I was fascinated even before we could get into an agreement. As I said, once the voice messages was down, Rachit was already on top to help me out even without knowing. You know, your industry is so important to so many people. It's such a big employer. It's part of everyone's lives. It's a leading organization. You also work for a leading organization in the world. You know, with all that in mind, do you have any recommendations for people in the position that you're in when it becomes time for them to replace an old system? I would strongly recommend all my fellow colleagues within the same industry and who has outdated versions of a telecommunication system and trying to upgrade their systems to the newer versions to definitely reach out to a solutions and look into e -metro tel. Yash, it's been a real pleasure getting to know you and giving us an insight that we normally don't get the perspective of a person not in the telecommunications industry, but a person actually that uses these products and services and what the outcomes were. I really appreciate your time and I hope to encounter you again. I hope to stay over some time when I'm in Brampton. Sure, sure. Anytime, Steve. It will be great to host you. All right. Well, I'm looking forward to that, but for now, thank you very much. Thank you, Steve. You take care.

It always applies to Mike, who scarcely does the same show in the same city on consecutive days. I know, I can always risk peeing in the closet in the middle of the night because you thought it's a hotel room. I don't know where I am, I'm walking around stumbling, and boy do I have a hotel story. Oh, well, hey, well, sit tight because there's another reason I'm doing this. Hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on. Because obviously you are back in the Florida compound, correct? I'm in, no, I'm in Orlando. Okay, well, see, my point is made, but the road trip I wanted to take, because for like three days I wanted to get to this, and doggone it, I'm doing it up front. Just take two minutes. You heard about the Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm's all -electric road trip? They were just trying to get from North Carolina to Tennessee, and they had NPR embedded because it's just going to be so great. Oh, look at this. It's the all -EV road trip, well, instantly, and Trump has the best line, Trump has the best line. When you get an electric car, the first 15 minutes are great, and the next five years are abject terror that you're going to run out of places to charge, and that's exactly what happened to them. So with the caravan coming, and the secretary, her own self, had not yet rolled up in her about -to -die EV, they blocked off a charging station with a gas -powered car. The one that was actually, and there was a family that was about dead on power, and it's 100 degrees, and they got a kid in the back, and they called the cops because Secretary Granholm's entourage was blocking the EV station. I'm not an anti -electric car, you've had a Tesla in your life, haven't you? I have, and listen, first of all, Tesla, you'll have more fun driving a Tesla than any car you've ever driven in your life. And the idea of plugging in and, hey, lessening our reliance on fossil fuels, but again, what happens is when we get down to mandates, and when you get down to saying, you're going to do this or else, I've got a friend who travels around the country in a Tesla. And so that whole story about what she went through, I knew firsthand from a very good friend of mine, because he goes from city to city to city, and he takes his Tesla. And he sometimes drives 6, 8, 10 hours on a stretch. And it ain't easy. I mean, now, he pulls it off. You know, Tesla's got a pretty fascinating technology. You look on your screen, they tell you exactly where the charging station is, they show you how many people are at the charging station, they tell you how many slots are available, if they're all used, you know right away in real time. They know how many people are at a charging station 40 miles away. They do. They know how many people are at the charging station all over the country right now. And you can look on your Tesla screen, and you say, you push Charger, and it'll show you where the next station is or the charging station on your route. Now, here's where it gets dicey. Tesla has now opened it up to Ford and all these other auto manufacturers. So now there's all kinds of competition. Yeah, but now, if you're a Tesla owner, you're going to battle all the Ford companies. Hey, can I tell you a little bit about a travel quick story, because I know I've got to pick your brain. And then we've got to talk Mitt Romney, because I want to talk to you from Mitt Romney. I've never seen a bigger disconnect within the Republican Party in my life, in my life. But first, before we do that, so here I am again in another hotel last night, and I always joke about peeing in the closet because I don't know where I am, and I'm walking around. I mean, honest to goodness, it is a very strange feeling to wake up and you don't know where you are. And it's been, I've had about nine or 10 days from New York to Philly to Orlando. I finally get home tomorrow just in time to have my wisdom tooth removed. It's travel stories and medical stories. Oh, yeah. And I predict there'll be medical complications. There always are. I predict, so I'm having major surgery, light a candle for me, pray I need some Gregorian chance. I know, because you know how I am. As Denise would say, I'm not exactly the world's best patient. So I'm not really good when things go like, and so I don't know. And I don't remember when I've got to stop eating. The surgery is tomorrow at like one o 'clock, the night before, right? Like midnight? Oh, well, that's 12, yeah, midnight before midnight. They told me, but I can't remember what they told me. And I'm afraid now I'm going to mess that up and then I'm going to Joan Rivers on the operating table. You'll have a burger in your system somewhere and you'll flatline. And then I'll flatline because I had a cheeseburger past the deadline. So anyway, so all this is going on in my life and I'm trying to keep my head above water. I check into the hotel last night and I'm tired and the flight was late. I'm blah, blah, blah, blah. I get to Orlando. First of all, here's a quick story about Orlando Airport. Now, have you and Lisa and the kids made the pilgrimage that every American family has made to Disney? And you go fly into Orlando and you get into that beautiful airport and you got to get on the train to get from the terminal to the main part of the airport. Do you know that experience I'm talking about? Yes, we have. It's been a long time, but yes, we have. So Phil Boyce, our big boss, my boss flew into Orlando last night at midnight. He claims, and I've got Derek Klingle, my producer, researching this. He claims that all throughout the Orlando Airport are homeless encampments. Homeless people are sleeping all throughout the Orlando Airport. And I said, Phil, are you sure those aren't like travelers? Yeah, I was going to say, I've seen some people who've been stuck, especially with the way today's Pete Buttigieg Airlines are going, flights are a dicey proposition. Maybe that's just a wayward, ill -dressed traveler. I'm going to find out because Phil insisted. He said, nope, these people had like little blankets and tents and supplies and provisions. He goes, I think they're opening up the airport at night because he goes in and, you know, Phil goes in and out of the airport all the time. Sure. He said, I've never seen this before. He said, I think these are homeless people in the airport. Now we've seen blue cities around the country that are opening up police stations. Yeah, blue cities. Notify DeSantis immediately. No kidding. I want to look into this big time. And so that's part one of the travel story of Orlando. Part two, I need to ask you if I'm being Karen or not. I want to know what your reaction would be if you check into a hotel, 10, 11 o 'clock at night, you're tired, you're grumpy, you get into the room, you pay extra because it's supposed to be like a club level room at a big major chain. Air conditioner doesn't work properly. I go over to sit down and watch forensic files to try to decompress the couch. I wouldn't touch that couch. It was so filthy dirty bio biohazard. I took pictures of the couch. I took pictures of it and then I get in the shower this morning and they don't have any bars of soap, which makes me crazy. It's all these tubes, you know, the containers of liquid. Well, dude, okay, the worm has turned on that one. We now want, we apparently want, and I've noticed the same thing. We have gel in tubes, you know, you spooge that out in your hand because that way no previous person is touching the soap. The bar of soap is so 1953 because who touched that before you? I don't mean another guest. No, but they're wrapped up. They're wrapped. The bars of soap are normally wrapped. But once it's open, let's see, you've got a family of three. Family four, family five, whatever. You leave the bar on the tray or whatever, then somebody else has to go touch the bar you touch. I don't think I would care, but other people do. So the soap in the tube is sort of where we are. I'm a family of one and all I got to do is open. I want a, I want a sealed bar of soap that I can put on anyway, but how about when the tube of the body wash is empty, so you're standing there, oh yeah, it was empty. So that's my hotel experience. Where are you, listen, good chains can have a bad day, but I'm guessing, I mean, not four seasons, but you know, kind of a month, 226 bucks for the night. That's not a cheap hotel room.

Nurse Midwife Beth Connors Shares Her Non-Traditional Career Journey

"Hello. I am so excited to be back with you all this week. In this episode, I sit down with Beth Connors, who is a certified nurse midwife and mom of two. She's the host of Your Birth Bestie Podcast, and she helps pregnant mamas navigate the hospital system without unwanted medical intervention. She has an online birth course and virtual doula services, and today we're going to talk about both of her birth experiences. One which was not quite what she wanted, another which was redemptive and amazing, both hospital births, and how you can make an empowered hospital birth a reality for you as well. So let's jump right in. Hello, Beth, I am so thrilled to have you on as a guest. Thank you for agreeing to come speak on my podcast. I think you will have so much valuable wisdom to share. So first, I just would love to hear a little bit about what your journey to becoming a nurse and becoming a midwife was like. If you would just let us know kind of your story and how you got here. Yeah, definitely. Well, thank you for having me. I'm excited to talk about this stuff today. Really starting with like my journey has been kind of nontraditional. I always knew that I wanted to work with like young kids or families in general. So I started really broad and got my bachelor's in human development and family studies, knowing that I could do just about anything with that. And then I was working as a nursing assistant. I knew I wanted to do something in the health care field, but just didn't really know exactly what. So I did that for a couple of years as I was deciding what to do and figured nursing also had a lot of opportunities to kind of go a lot of different directions. So I went this direct entry route so I could already have my bachelor's. I didn't have to go to like traditional nursing school. It was like an accelerated master's program. So I did the master's of nursing program and did a couple of clinicals and really felt strongly about labor and delivery. I felt like that was an opportunity for me to work with like a very vulnerable population with moms expecting their first baby a lot of the times or really overwhelmed, not sure what to do. Dads were sometimes involved or not involved, but it was very much like an unknown territory. So I thought that was very interesting coming from that perspective. So I went into L &D nursing and wanted to help families feel comfortable during that vulnerable time, like I said. But as I quickly learned in my role as a nurse, I didn't feel like I could advocate for them as much as I wanted to. So I was like, what else can I do? And so I was like, hey, after this program is over, let's start the midwifery program. So I continued on for another two years and became a certified nurse midwife. And I loved what I was doing. I thought I was definitely making a difference. And as I continued my education, did more clinicals, met more families, there still were like constraints of the hospital system. As a certified nurse midwife, people aren't always aware of like the differences between what a midwife is in the hospital versus home. I could attend births both in the hospital and at home, but my education was really based on hospital birth. So I knew if I wanted to stay in the system as a midwife, I would have to pretty much stay within the realm of their policies and procedures. And it wasn't always something that I agreed with and felt like there was more that needs to be done in terms of education. And that is why I went into midwifery versus nursing. Because as you probably know, when you get a patient, it's the time of delivery. You didn't know them at all before that. So I thought as a midwife, I was going to be able to have that education part, but I really felt disconnected to patients in the hospital because either moms and dads weren't interested in learning more, didn't know that they could learn more. They didn't know that they had choices. So that was just very much of a disconnect. And then I only had 15 minutes with them in an appointment and I was like, this is all just not what I wanted to do. Let's figure out how I can serve these moms wanting a hospital birth in a better way. So that's kind of where I am now with the online space and doing more of the childbirth education route. I'm now offering doula support both virtually and in person. So I feel like there's a lot more that needs to be done with the education aspect and the support aspect that was missing for me as a nurse and throughout all my, it was like eight years of education thrown out the window, but not really.

A highlight from Dissecting Djokovics Reign, Cocos Title & the 2023 US Open With Craig OShannessy

"Welcome to the official tennis .com podcast featuring professional coach and community leader Kamau Murray. Welcome to the tennis .com podcast. I am your host Kamau Murray and we are here with one of our usual suspects. We always have to do our Masters 1000 Grand Slam wrap up with Mr. Data, Mr. Analytics, Mr. Guy in the bunker with his pen and pad, Craig O 'Shaughnessy. Craig, welcome to the show. Pleasure to be here. Pleasure to be here. I just got back from the US Open. I was there for two weeks. It felt like eight. It's the most draining slam of all. It was a good tournament, some great matches. It's tough, I think way tougher to be there for the duration than any other tournament that there is. 100%. You survive. And the matches, the tournament goes so late and the process to get to and from the site makes it just a haul, right? And it makes the day just long. At an hour and a half to the front and the back of your day, in addition to sitting there watching matches and this thing. Before we get to Coco Sabalenka, because that'll take up the whole show, right? You and I normally, we dibble and dabble on the girls and then we dive into the men's. I want to do the reverse. I want to dibble and dabble in the men's because I don't think anyone's surprised about what happened because if we start talking about Coco and Sabalenka now, it'll just be the whole hour. So when you look at a whole two weeks, right, and I was there for the first part of it, seeing the energy, talking to the players, touching, feeling them, seeing how them and themselves A, were enjoying the atmosphere, sometimes a little too much, B, managing the atmosphere or C, trying to just control their bubble within the atmosphere. And I think that process probably, those three sort of situations probably cost Francis a further run, right, kind of getting caught in the matrix, right, absorbing a lot of atmosphere. And then Ben, with the experience of his family, his dad, controlling the atmosphere, probably had a lot to do with his long run. But I think the match that I think had the biggest impact on the tournament was definitely Novak versus Jerry. Did you see the match? What did you think when Novak left the court, down sucess to love, goes to the bathroom and looks himself in the mirror, what happened? Yeah, when he left the court, you know, it was, he's down two sets to love, Jerry's controlling the back of the court with his backhand, his backhand was the best shot on the court in the first two sets. But to be honest, even then Novak goes in, he's still the favorite, still the favorite down two sets to love. He's done it before, you know, it's one of those things where can your opponent play three blinding good sets out of five? Maybe not, probably not, when Novak goes in, you know, you just kind of reset, look in the mirror. He did exactly the same thing against Tsitsipas at Roland Garros, came out and just mowed over him in the last three sets, mowed over Jerry in the last three sets. It was a carbon copy, it's like Novak looks in the mirror and goes, okay, we've got that out of the way. Whether it's a combination of Novak being a little tight, playing, you know, a fellow countryman, it's a combination of early rounds being a bit tight. It's a combination of the opponent just playing spectacular tennis, but you can see right from the start of that match, Novak wasn't, his A game did not turn up right at the beginning. He was pushing, he was prodding, he was spinning, you know, just watching him play a thousand matches, you look at him and say, well, he's not there yet. And even after two sets, he's not there. But you know, sometimes for players, when you get down, it can relax you. It's like, well, I can't fall any further down this hall, I'm two sets to love down. May as well relax, may as well chill out, may as well believe in myself, may as well hit the ball, and Novak's the master of that. So I'm not so, I'm not surprised by the final result. And I think overall, it really helped Novak to play such a quality match and have to overcome some adversity early on. So I agree with you, very pivotal match for the men's draw. Well, let me ask you this, because from a coach's standpoint, when I see, when I see that type of performance, my mind goes to, it wasn't ready to play, right? When I look at like Francis and Ben Shelton, it looked like Francis wasn't ready to play. When I'm sitting in a coach's box and my player goes down 3 -0 or 4 -1, and they're like, deer in the headlines, don't know what to do, it was like, what was not clear prior to the match? You've spent a lot of time with Novak, Novak's got one of the best teams out there, he's the most methodical and committed to his regimen. How does something like that happen to a player who's number one, Jerry is Serbian, right? So you knew who you were playing, right? How did you come out not ready to play? I mean, is there a chance that at this big of an event, at this point in the event that he just wasn't ready or wasn't clear on what to do or from being close and inside, what do you think? Yeah, I think if you look back to Novak's seven matches, I think he will have a slightly different explanation for how he started in all sevens. You get all your ducks in a row, you watch the video, you talk to the team, you get the game plan, but at the start, it was like Novak, in that match, he may walk out there and sometimes he feels the energy of the crowd and it excites him. Sometimes you feel the energy of the crowd and you may go away a little bit and then come back. But I thought that he was attempting to work his way into this match, to start off even to let his resume do the talking early, let the other guy go away, let the other guy spray balls and it didn't happen. It just didn't happen. So all of a sudden, the opponent's not missing a thing, the opponent's playing at a much higher level than Novak was and you're just not ready for that. He's not ready for that. You're going to play a match like that. In the course of a season where these guys are playing about 80 matches, you're going to have these subtleties with how the opponent's playing, how you're playing, are you really ready, are you working yourself into the match, are you coming out guns blazing? And it was just a bad combination of layers for Novak where Jerry threw the first punches, Novak's tasting blood, and it took him a couple of sets to recover, but there was never any doubt in my mind that he would still win that match. And I think that's the oddest thing. I think the odds makers, after being two sets, Novak was still the favorite and I was like, wow. That's probably the first time that I've seen that, I'm not a better, but the odds makers were still favoring Novak. So let me ask you this. Another pivotal match in the tournament, I think, was TFO Ben Shelton. Yeah, I was at that match. I think we all knew Ben Shelton could play. I thought it was very impressive, him beating Tommy Paul, right? One of the things, and I don't know the reason for this, is when he beat Tommy Paul, the crowd, obviously they had to choose, both Americans, Ben and Tommy, but when Ben beat Tommy, I was a little disappointed that the crowd was kind of quiet, right? But we don't have to hop on that, but I do want to point it out that the crowd was eerily quiet after the win of that. But with him and Francis, one of the things that concerned me about Francis was in that New York environment, with all the celebrities, with all the kind of like, and I mean, first of all, we got to keep it going. More non -tennis people, more non -tennis athletes, musicians, entertainers, artists showed up to the US Open this year than I can ever remember. And we need to do that for the sport to grow. But you still got a tournament to play, right? And this generation who loves that, loves the attention, will have to learn to balance how much is too much, how much gets me off kilter, and how much gets me off track. And I thought that the day before the Ben match, you saw Francis with Bieber. I thought that that was a little too much and perhaps maybe took for granted that Ben would shit his pants, and he didn't, right? You know what I mean? Because when you get to that point in the tournament, when you are the veteran, you kind of expect the young guy to give you a couple, like, ah, if I just play solid, he'll know who he is, and the shock factor will cause him to make a few unforced errors or some bad decisions, and it didn't happen. And to me, that goes in the book of, Francis didn't look ready to play, and I think he'll learn from this experience on managing the energy, managing his energy, for that late in the tournament. But I mean, Ben brought it. What was your take on Ben now when you look at the stats, when you look at the 149 mile an hour serve, what is your take on him now having seen him play six matches? Well, the Tommy Paul match was really good. I liked how he managed the ability to say, okay, this is a ball to pull the trigger on. I spoke with his dad at the start of the tournament, and I mentioned possibly our discussion that we've had in other ones is that I think Ben's maturity is going to come from figuring out when there's one more ball that needs to be hit. There's just one more ball. And I think maybe I talked to you about it last time, but it goes back to me to the 2000 Australian Open final. Agassi beats Kefalnikov in four sets. Agassi's one in the world, Kefalnikov's two. Agassi goes to the post -match interview. Bruce McAvaney is interviewing there, and they're watching some film, and Agassi's just going, you know, Kefalnikov moves well, he lights the ball up, the surface helps him, and he throws this line in there, he goes in the middle, he goes, and he's only looking to pull the trigger one time in the point. So he's a really tough opponent. And that just has always stuck with me. And that's what I said to Ben's dad is that Ben needs to just go, I could pull the trigger on this ball, but it's not quite the right one yet. I could pull the trigger on the next ball. Literally, you could pull the trigger on every ball he hits. But growth, his his maturity, his tennis development and tennis IQ is getting better because you're hitting a ball that makes the opponent uncomfortable, you're hitting a ball that can extract an error, and you don't always have to hit the winner. So Ben's development is going to be predicated on one more ball in the court and making a better decision on when to pull the trigger. And I thought he did a great job in the Tommy Paul match and a great job in the Francis Tiafone match of not pulling too early. And then he went and played Novak and just everything went to hell in a hand basket. And it didn't. But that was, you know, I was for the Tiafone match getting back to that. You know, I'm watching at the start and the first kind of 10 minutes, it looked kind of even, you know, good decisions, both sides, good points, both sides. Francis was so quick coming to the net. He does such a great job of, you know, hitting a ball and he's already leaning on it, you know, with his short little backswing on the backhand. And all of a sudden he's almost leaning over the net, spiking these volleys. I'm like, oh, my God, this guy has figured out, you know, the only person I saw that really blew me out of the water with that was McEnroe, John McEnroe. He looked like he went through a time warp, whereas it takes, you know, all of us 1 .5 seconds to move from the baseline inside into the service box. But he goes through this time warp that looks like 0 .2 of a second. He's like, how does he get in there that quickly? Francis showed me that early on. But then the focus, the concentration, the locked in, the decision making started to erode at around the 10 to 15 minute mark, and he never recovered from that. Yeah. So you get Ben has Novak in the semifinals. And I think that Novak, I mean, just has this ability to you know, it's what I was it's kind of what Coco did. I call it cumulative pressure. And it is. I'm going to run the ball down, I'm going to make you hit an extra ball, I'm going to make you play one more ball every point on your serve so that later you feel it. You may not feel it now, but later you feel it. And that was an example of what I call cumulative pressure that kind of got to Ben. Yeah. What was your take on what Novak did to Ben or vice versa, what Ben did not do that match that he did the previous matches? Yeah, good point. That was that was a really fun match to be at the energy, the atmosphere, you know, the old guard, the new guard. You're exactly right. There was, you know, on that court in twenty eighteen, I worked with Novak to defeat Del Potro. And a lot of the commentators, when you go back and go through that match, they're like, Del Potro is dropping 135, 138 and Novak's putting it back in his shoes. And the commentators are like, how in the world is he doing this? Well, there's only one way that you do that is that you study Del Potro's patterns and you know what to say. When Del Potro needs a point in the juice court, he's going to and when he doesn't need a point, he's going to go, why? Novak's sitting there on it. And I felt the same thing is that Ben's dropping heat on especially on first serves. And Novak is putting so many balls back in play that you're exactly right, that it just kept accumulating and accumulating. The other thing that really stood out to me. That I don't know why is that Ben sliced so many returns, just this slow, just not even like a Federer kind of knifing, dark slice, it's this blocking slow slice that's not as good as Wawrinka's. It's not within a meter of the baseline. It's there was once he's just too defensive. So he's putting no pressure, no pressure on Novak because because he overdid the slice. Now, all of a sudden, he's got to deal with so many serves coming back and then the decision making. Then he starts, you know, the fingers kind of on the trigger, then he starts pulling it too much. And then, you know, Novak knows why this kid is potentially a real problem for me. But I've already figured him out about 15 minutes in. He's not doing anything against my serve. I'm doing everything against his serve and putting times back. I'm just going to press cruise control and take a nap for the next 30 kilometers. Yeah. And I think that was probably the one mistake and probably a tactic that was misinterpreted was, hey, if on his serve, put pressure on because you get racket on every ball, not to bunt every ball. Right. Because Novak is the is the history, the best returner in history, but he's not the best server in history. And he I don't want to call it vulnerable, but you will have an opportunity or two against Novak on his serve in a five set match. And I thought, Ben, with as great of a service he had, with as big of a service he has, he didn't take enough risks on the return gains and he didn't play. Correct. And when I say aggressive, I don't mean like crazy out of this world, we're winners, but controlled aggression. There was no reason Novak serving a buck 21, a buck 22 for you to block the serve back. You can have plenty of time to take a full swing and at least send a message for the rest of his career that your serve doesn't bother me. Right. Part of being a young guy is how do I apply cumulative pressure that may not work this match, but in three or four matches from now in the next semi? Right. Because you still got to go through Novak that shows them I'm not bothered by your serve and you better be you will be bothered by my serve. Right. And I think that was sort of a missed opportunity for Ben to take some cuts at Novak serve. And I think that set the tone for the match that allowed Novak to kind of steam roll.

"Another beautiful and divine day in Diva Naples here, September 9th, Saturday, 2023, and this is episode 439 from this Mike Rich and from this Mike Matt, another Saturday, it is a Saturday, I'm so happy, how was your uh checkout, doctor checkout, it was great, you got a smile on your face, I told you yesterday that I was getting a checkup for for the insurance aspect of infinite banking, we'll talk about that some other day, uh but I had an awesome time, she checked all my blood, and what did they say, and then I had an EKG that came out perfect, oh good, hold on just a second, let me, hold on just a second, oh there you go, oh there's that German cake I had to diss yesterday, I felt really bad about it, but now I'm back to destroying my body, so I'll go ahead, destroy it, let's do it, let's eat this sugar, this looks awesome, I've been doing a lot of complaining for years about German cakes, so yeah, and since they say you are, you got a free pass, yeah, let's just destroy it, let's do it, yeah, yeah, what do I care about, exactly, any diabetes or anything else, it might be a result, you just close your eyes and say you never had it, right, it's the only problem I always tell people, like the only problem is gonna be in your head, you know what I'm saying, you're gonna have to figure it out, right, explain it to yourself, you don't have to explain to anybody else, oh my gosh, it's a little frozen, isn't it, it's absolutely delicious, is that blueberry, this is blueberry cream cheese, yeah, crumbled cream cheesecake, it's German, German, but you know yesterday was fresh and you said you don't want it, so I just shove it in the freezer, make an ice cream out of it, you know what's awesome though, because you probably had no idea this, but blueberry is my favorite berry for fruit pies and cakes, you know what, if this would have onion, you would say same thing, you mean if you put a chili dog in front of my face, you didn't have a cake for 24 hours, so everything would be your favorite, oh yeah, that's true, yeah, well speaking of that, do you know what they call train carrying bubble gum, choo -choo gum, yeah, no, choo -choo train, yeah, and in your case, you know, the dog is cheap, yeah, you will find out as soon as you talk to a lawyer, yeah, right, here it is, yeah, so be careful, all right, I will, so shove a couple more forks in your opening, yeah, and then, so you can be quiet, because I have essentials to do, I will do that, why don't you get to the essentials while I shove German cake down my throat, yeah, we will still hear it, it's gonna fall down so deep, because you have nothing there, that's right, I told you not to eat 24 hours, anything, but I've been eating all day since I got done with that EKG, yeah, it's 9 p .m and this is the perfect thing to put up there, you know, ending this Saturday, put it right on top of those burgers and things I ate today, oh did you, oh yeah, you didn't tell me that, onion rings do, oh my god, where's mine, I forgot, oh yeah, I'm gonna bring you this, I'm gonna bring you that, I'm sure, you know, loyal listeners now just laughing their faces and saying, saying yeah, he was right, he always promised him something, never bring him anything, all right, yeah, you are the one on the streets, I can barely get to the garbage can, you'd be all right, yeah, well today I had a, I closed my eye, I had a nap, no, one eye, yeah, close one eye, wow, can you believe it, three minutes, did you go past three minutes, yeah, three and a half, I think, well that's, it's a record, that's a record for you, yeah, I feel so guilty, yeah, you should, yeah, Julian Bruce, Terra Ketera, Apache music, thank you for all the music that you provide us with and the song that we start our podcast with, which is Divine Ables, very signature song for us and we are always tuned into this podcast, I hope everybody else that hears that as well and sponsor of this podcast is Divine Coffee and Wine Bar, our favorite place where we're getting all our Texas tea from and you know that this giving us the jolt and the energy that we can, you know, bring these voices to your ears, beachss .com, that's the place where you wanna go if you're interested, so 250 items available, just let us know what we can bring you, we will do our best to be there between 30 to 45 minutes, there's no charge for delivery if you order more than $15, which today it's, you know, two sandwiches and stuff, it's easy to do, yeah, easy, so, you know, we're still keeping everything very reasonable, salads from $12, organic salads, sandwiches, $13, I mean, we bring it to your beach, it's freshly made in our coffee and wine bar, not speaking of the alcohol, like the beers and, you know, cocktails and wine and everything, we have everything, now, weather, how about that? I got that weather today and we're gonna have a sunny day in the beginning, it's gonna be 99 it was today and we're gonna get down to a low of 78, a little bit of rain at 9 o 'clock, about a 70 % chance, then at 10 o 'clock 50 and at 11 o 'clock 40 % chance, so we're gonna have a pretty nice day, do you think we're gonna have rain? Yeah, we're headed towards, you know, seasonal weather, it's getting lower and lower, I mean, it's still pretty hot, my friend, during the day, but that's gonna start cooling down, well, that's gonna be so nice, just open windows and then we also see that that hurricane is out there, still, but they said it slowed down a little bit and so they're hoping that it's just gonna curve back up into the Atlantic, slow down a little bit yesterday, yeah, now, five miles an hour, yeah, back to the speed, it's picked up another five, uh -oh, but it is supposed to kind of turn it back into the Atlantic, right, until they throw the spaghetti on the wall, we really don't know, yeah, we don't know, I wish they'd throw some meatballs into that spaghetti, but the speed they said is back to 160, yesterday was from 160, that's crazy, so we are back from, you know, two days ago, so, doesn't know what it's doing, I think it's like driving with your wife, you know, it's just like, have you ever drove with your ex -wife when she said something, both of them, did she ever upset you and, and, you know, this is, you never drove like that, I tried to make sure that she never drove, I learned that in the army, right, when we, when you were out of the bunker, yeah, hold on, let me just give you another Iron Curtain story, they're the, they're the, my favorite of the day now, so, uh, we were, hold on, we were probably in the army for two weeks, you know, very fresh, you still don't know what, everything smells different, you still don't know what's going on, you know, they cut your hair, you have no hair, just look like a little, like, you know, freshly born, the little dog baby, yeah, and you just, you stick the head out of the bed, it goes like, what is today, you know, you just have no idea, so every day there was a surprise, so two weeks in, they just like, uh, you know, sound the alarm, everybody full gear, and they loaded us in this, uh, you know, very sophisticated army vehicles, you know, yeah, that has absolutely, absolutely no, uh, springs or any type of, you know, uh, no shock absorbers raining, no, no suspension, so you feel little stones on, on everything, so we're going in the road, and, uh, of course, you know, the, in the cabin, there were three seats only, and, uh, you know, the older soldiers, now we're gonna sit in the, in the, on the back, which we called pig house, you know, we call it pig house, like when you're transferring pigs to slaughterhouse, that's where you put them, that's where you guys were going, so the Russian front, so you're sitting, right, so you're sitting, uh, on a bench, very, like, a very nicely cushioned bench, which was jested from piece of wood, and you have all the gear on you, right, heavy, and now imagine you're sitting, uh, on a side, uh, towards front, so you don't, you don't sit, like, in the bus, like, facing front, right, right, you're sitting on the side, so we get out of the army base, and that soldier, that older soldier, no exactly, because they did same thing to him, when he was there, yeah, but he experienced it, and I learned it, and I later on did it to my ex -wife, she really liked that, you know, you hazed your own ex -wife, I was giving her the army special, you know, just the treatment, all the time, so she did something wrong, I just, so, so what he did, all the soldiers, like, he pressed the pedal, like, to the ground, right, the truck, it takes, like, maybe half a second to pick up, right, the speed, so just, like, move forward, and then he let it go, and press the brake, and just stop, and he did it, like, maybe 15, 20 times, some guys start puking, because they couldn't, like, you're sitting side to side, right, and you're hitting each other with this heavy gear, you got car sickness, yeah, yeah, so, you know, that's what, uh, I did to my ex -wife, oh, you're horrible, so when she was, you know, just, uh, the, you know, I'm, I'm, wouldn't it have been just better to be, do it my way, just don't let her drive, no, I was driving my ex -wife, when she was telling her where to go, and what to do, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm surprised the airbag didn't explode, oh my gosh, you know, she was really close with the face to the dashboard, it's not better than my friend from England, you know, what he did to his ex -wife, no, well, she started, I think, she got upset one day, because he forgot they had the tickets to the theater, and he came, uh, you know, what do you call it, uh, socially tired, he came from this, uh, place called restaurant, you know, after work, he worked for socially gathering, yeah, and he came home socially tired, right, yeah, so, uh, he didn't want to go to the theater, he went to social gathering, he didn't want to go, he was tired, I don't want to go anywhere, well, after a few beers, he got really tired, right, so he came home, yeah, she started yelling at him that they have to go, and they have to take shower and everything, and he's, you know, kind of like, I'm not going, and all this, so, right, he said it was so much fire in the house, that he had to dress himself, and all these things, and then when he was opening the door for her to get, uh, you know, seated in the car, he slammed the door when her hand was still between the doors, did he do it on purpose, oh my god, I guess we're staying home, so he saw her hand still holding when she was getting in the car, still telling him stuff, so he just shut the door, said we end up in the ER, I told her I don't want to go to the theater, oh, I'm surprised he didn't push her back in the car and say drive yourself to the emergency room, but yes, call me when you're, so next time, get all fixed up, when your wife is telling you stuff in the car, you just pretend you're in the army, press the pedal, gas, brake, gas, brake, and if that doesn't work, slam her hand in the door, that's the treatment, uh, but that would be the, that would be definitely, that'd be the extreme, yeah, well we're getting to our segment, which is our favorite segment of, uh, I'm thinking of it, it is my favorite segment, what do you call it, uh, decades, yeah, it is, it's of the century, maybe, we've been doing this for five years, but we just started this segment last week, but I love it for five years, I do too, I love this segment for whole five years, yeah, because it is what it is, and what is this segment, we know everything that the guy who knows everything doesn't know, so there you go, that's right, and if we, if we don't know it, we'll, we'll give the answer later, yeah, we will know it, there will be time, eventually, yeah, yeah, we will get to know it, because we're, we're on the mission on, on the know, it, I love I do too, yeah, so the idea is just to bring the news around the town, the Southwest Florida, what's going on, so you, your life is a little bit more educated, so you know, these days, there are fact checkers, and all kind of different things that are providing us from finding out what really is happening, so that's why Matt and I are dedicated, we eat cake over here, drink coffee, get fed, we have little doors, so I mean, this is, there's a situation we may not gonna get out of the studio one day, but for now, we, we are able to exit, so you know, if you're listening, you may be smarter, because, yeah, because you get all kinds of information, yeah, I mean, can I give you a couple, a little bit of information you got over a couple of decades? 1960, Yeah, oil is gone in 10 years, let me give you another one, 1970s was the ice age in 10 years, so we're gonna, that kind of didn't happen, 1980s, acid rain will destroy all crops in 10 years, what's the deal with 10 years, the 90s, the ozone layer will be gone in 10 years, what year is it right now, Rich? Did it start already? I guess, and then 2000 ice caps will be gone in 10 years, so when that started, that started in 2000, well, I think, I think Al Gore need to come back and explain that to us, so what we want to do is give you news that you can use in 10 years, oh, I love it, yeah, so let me just start with this, interesting fact that happened in Ecolier County and commissioners, they actually, I guess, start thinking, you know, what to do and how to, how to, maybe they use the crystal ball, how to plan the future here, yeah, maybe, and we've been preaching this for a while, we were always saying, yes, we were, Diva and Aprils, you know, we want to bring communities together because whatever, it's gonna be day, and it's not far, but federal government is gonna be thinking, we don't have much money left, what we're gonna do and how we're gonna distribute it, maybe we're just gonna skip some of the states and states gonna say, hey, we didn't get money, so some of the counties, and this is how it's gonna go, and counties to the cities and so on and so forth, so, all the way down to the local government, you have to realize that one day you're gonna have to be your own doctor, your own, you know, lawyer, and your own gardener, and your own everything, so let's just start practicing this, let's be independent, it's like our own community, and we're coming up with solutions, our own solutions as a community and coming together, and that's what we're all about, building community, and budgets obviously are a big part of that, and we live in Collier County, I believe the greatest county in all of Florida, that's my own opinion, but now you're gonna share some information about what's going on, I mean, we have some serious issues that we're gonna have to deal with, and this, let me say this, and we get there, okay, there's two things that could happen, you either gotta cut budgets to balance the budget, or you need to raise taxes to pay for that stuff, and we can do both, you can do both, but the real thing would be is to take an assessment and find out what we really need, what programs, where we can realistically cut the budget, and the federal government is in debt, we're all in debt, and they're gonna have to finally come to grips that you just can't spend yourself into wealth, and they're gonna have to make cuts, and the way they're gonna make cuts is doing exactly what you said, they're gonna cut their funds to the states and say, you guys are now responsible for that, and where are we gonna make up the shortcomings on that, is two things like you said both, either we're gonna cut the budgets, or we're gonna raise taxes, and as citizens, and people in the community, we should be involved in that discussion, because it's gonna affect every single person one way or the other, you may be somebody that relies on some of these programs that the county's gonna start talking about, you know, the budgets, and maybe cutting, and that type of stuff, so that's why we come here and tell you, hey, be educated, we're letting you know, they're coming up with this commission meeting to start talking about the budget, and this one's gonna involve cut, and they discuss that in accounting, what they're gonna be cutting, how they're gonna be cutting, which is smarter way to do it, because they still have time, right, so I think, you know, we're going a good direction, exactly, and here we are, Diwai Naples, we would like to educate you and everybody else, instead of cutting budgets, and you know, raising taxes, why we don't just spend a little bit more money with our local businesses, because we keep them, keep them in business, and today, you know, actually yesterday, Friday, seasonal week, or in our case, two weeks of restaurant dining, for $29, $39, and $49, depends what restaurant you go to, it's available to you, so you will support our local businesses, we'll keep people employed, you know, keep the money here in our community, local taxes going into the coffer, we don't have to raise the taxes, because we just naturally, stimulating the economy, that's what it is, that's exactly right, and you brought, that's the key point right there, so if we learn this right now, we don't have to worry about it later, right, and you know, we're gonna go as far as a school district has enough money to, you know, still have teachers, and have kids in the school safe, and learning the right things, and EMS being available to come to your house quickly, because they have a full tank of gas, proper funding, yeah, proper funding, so keep this in mind, because I think it's very important, and I'm really excited that our leaders in the county are taking initiatives, and they start already, you know, this conversation, because they can, they can see the devil on the wall, yeah, the handwriting's on the wall, baby, because that's coming, no matter what, and it's the day of reckoning, they call it, and we have a lot of programs that we are preparing, one of them is, for example, Divine Naples Club, that will be just for residents of Collier County, and once you prove your residence, there's gonna be a lot of benefits you're gonna be getting, so we wanna, you know, we're gonna participate in it, we're gonna be somehow leaders into this movement as well, so you know, just keep eye on our profile, social media, website, and on EARS on this podcast, we will bring everything to your ears, yes, so that's what I have to say about community budget, you know, budgeting, and being a community, we have 23 websites in 18 languages, so you can find a lot of information that we are passionately putting together, now, that would be the most serious stone, right, and now, since it's Saturday, and you're stuffing your face, I think we should, what else is new, yeah, we should stick to food, yeah, yeah, that's, why not, yeah, that's what everybody does this weekend, right, everybody's out, you know, dining, finding dining, they only ask two crazy people, you know, sitting here, well, we're finding a way to do it here, yeah, that's true, right, we always find a way, we do, so we don't left, where there's a will, there's a way, there's no left behind, even if we call in for takeout, so I just, you know, I have nine food dishes, signature food dishes, they are so symbolic for Florida, you have ideas, oh yeah, let me start with this, I'm gonna name them, and you give me an idea of what you think about it, okay, how about this, all right, key lime pie, oh, that is a signature of Florida, and it is probably my favorite tart dish, the key lime pie is so tart, and I just love the way it's made, and there's such a different variety, different, you can get that just about at any restaurant in southwest Florida, you know, I mean, it's a staple, bro, that's the dessert of the state, right, that, I mean, that's true, and you know what's interesting about this, this was invented in Key West, in the beginning of 19th century, before even a refrigerator was invented, what did they put in it to keep it, I mean, I'm just saying, you know, the key ingredients is pie to sweetened condensed milk, yeah, so, you know, that's just like a pickled, sugar, doesn't have to be refrigerated, yeah, exactly, yeah, just so you know, if you need to, sugar sausages, it's delicious, it's delicious, gator tails, how about that, I do, but actually, I like them better in what are called gator nuggets, or gator balls, and I like them in smaller pieces, and the way I like it, I mean, some make it and saute it and do other ways, but I like it fried, there's nothing like fried gator, and I dip my gator nuggets or balls in barbecue sauce, it's my favorite, and it is a staple, again, in Florida, it's tradition, oh, I think there's been a tradition forever, since Indians, they made them, fried them, they may just ate them differently, no, they did, they've ate it, like, I'm sure that he, he didn't have alligator sushi, did you, did you live with Indians, so, you know, no, I don't know, okay, so, you don't know, I don't know, but I want to know, because we're supposed to know everything, I know, I mean, you, you pretend, like, you know, right, but maybe they do it, like, we do marshmallows, maybe they put it on a stick and roast it over the fire, that's exactly how you would do it, with sausage, yeah, let me just correct you, I mean, you always pretend, like, you know, but I'm here to make you look like you don't know, but I know, right, yeah, and to make me look, you know, like, like, you don't know, I don't know, you're right, yeah, so, Indians were always doing it, but these days, it's kind of hard to access, or get access to this food, because it's only during the open hunting season, and people that hunt for alligators need to have a license, so it's a little bit more sophisticated, but they, from the tail, there's the pieces on the top of the tail that are used for this, you know, this delicatessen, and it's only during the certain, you know, months of the year, so unless you freeze it, then you're probably gonna have it fresh, exactly, in some of the places and restaurants, there's not many of them around, but it tastes like a chicken, yeah, everything tastes like chicken, although I never say that, because gator tastes like gator to me, yeah, well, it tastes like chicken, all right, everything tastes like cabbage, do you know what that is? No, and it's, I just learned today, so we're in the know, why don't you share that with me? It's called Heart of Palm, and it's been eaten for hundreds of years, the leaves of the branches of the palm were used to construction ever, historically known for being part of the many early folks, in fact, one group of early Americans was able to repel British army attacks because of really, yeah, so part of the palm that used for construction, they also eat and they make, you know, oh, that's right, it's, they have it in cans, right? Yeah, yeah, so that's, that's, you know, the palm is all around us, we just don't know which one it is, I know, and that's just, you know, I guess back to Indians, yeah, game, there you go, conch fritters, oh, I love crunk fritters, and those things are fried also, did you know what they call that? Escargot of Florida, that's right, because the actual meat is actually a snail, most people probably wouldn't eat it if they'd known that, but usually it's chopped up and put in a fritter, a batter and fried, it's delicious, you ever had it? I don't think so, because I don't eat seafood, I don't play the balls, and I don't watch TV, would you like me to bring it so you can try it one time, it's more like a hush puppy, let me bring it, you can have it, okay, no, I don't, I don't eat seafood, well I love them, and whenever I have a go to a restaurant that has them, I try to make that my appetizer, the dish originates from Bahamas, but it's, it transfers to the kivas, that's where it starts, you know, spreading north from there, so it just gives you an idea, fried green tomatoes, oh I love it, you ever seen that movie, no, which movie, it's a movie, fried green tomatoes, but anyway, they're delicious, you ever had those, you don't like fried food, no, I don't eat much, you eat fried chicken though, well the chicken tenders, you eat fried chicken too, not much, if I bring fried chicken here to you, you're gonna eat it, I'm gonna get you Popeyes, I don't think I've ever had it, yeah, well I think I'll bring you some Popeyes, you might like it, I'm not a big Kentucky fried chicken fan, well we're gonna talk about it today, remind me, okay, yeah, all right, when we're gonna go into the national days, something important you need to know, okay, public subs, that's really interesting, yeah, you know what, I really like their bread, because bread is a sandwich, and we are, we were able to even make better sandwich with our ciabatta bread, oh yeah, and we're getting, we're getting actually, reviews, I mean a lot of people just love our sandwiches, because the ciabatta bread comes out crispy, so crispy, and we balanced all these flavors, you know, we have, strategically, yeah, we have mustards, we have tomato, greens, pickles, European pickles, meat, cheese on the sandwich, I mean, you know, we just balanced it so nicely, the sandwich from Publix is good, but it's just, I think, too big, and also, you know, there's just a lot of bread in it, right, and our sandwich is not that much bread, but it's more crispier, so it's more like a baguette, crispier type of thing, and I just love our ciabatta, I love the little charred bit a bit on it, it's just, the flavor is great, yeah, well, then we invite people, oysters, yep, and then we have a lot of oyster bars around here, Pelican Larry's is known for it, I'm not a big raw oyster fan, I like them fried, and I like them on bread, yeah, well, a sandwich, a poor boy, somebody just posted something on the social media, how they were trying to eat oysters, and they see these little maggots coming through it, after they put lemon on it, I never had oysters, I don't like them, so if you are going for oysters, be careful, make sure you don't get it because they are raw, so it could be a lot of parasites and a lot of bacteria, so just be careful, you know, it could be a problem. Strawberry shortcake, yes, well, what do you tell me? I love it, you don't like it? I like it, I like the cake, it's usually a shortbread cake, little round circle, some people make them scratch, you can buy them in grocery stores, and you just cut up your strawberries, you can add a little syrup to it if you like, to make it a little sweeter, I like to just have mine fresh with the strawberry juice, and then whipped cream, now I would love to have your special German whipped cream on one of those, and a little touch for me is to sprinkle a little bit of nuts on top of it, that's my own personal way of doing strawberry shortcake, but I love it. Great idea, but you know what, it's really interesting to know that strawberry shortcake came from Florida, and it's from town that is called Plant City, and it's the smallest town in Helzberg County, about 15 minutes from Tampa, and they produce 15 % of the strawberries sold in the United States.

Spencer AKA "The Mando Medic" on the Importance of Decompression Time

"You have a firefighter who's having a hard time transitioning from work to home, and isn't having a lot of empathy and gratitude for their spouse, what do you think is the ultimate game changer there? For me, it was honestly the decompression before I walked through the door, because I think that what happens is I think we have good intentions. I think on the way home we're excited to see our families. I think we're excited to get off of work and we'll go back to our home environment. The problem is, it's less of a problem if you have that perspective and empathy, but as soon as we walk through the door, right, maybe we had a really rough shift and we're getting hit with all the things we need to do for the rest of the day. Some sort of chaos happened in the night before that we hadn't heard about yet, we're having to deal with. I know me as a child, I can remember my father was a trooper for 30 years, I remember being really excited to see him when he got home, running right at him. So things like that becomes over stimulating and I think that when we're in that mentality, we get frustrated with things that may not frustrate us in a logical perspective, but emotionally, because we're so stimulated from coming off shift, it hits us wrong and we can start to say things we don't mean or give off tones that we don't intend to give off. So for me, the biggest game changer was that decompression. Honestly, all I started doing was staying late at shift and having breakfast with the oncoming crew. It's something as simple as that. We just hang out, have breakfast with them for maybe 10, 15 minutes, a little bit longer than your regular Passover. We're not talking about work, we're talking about so and so's kids Little League, how they're doing, or whatever vacation somebody just took. We're talking about things that don't involve work and it's giving me time to process what happened the night before. Or if we had something bad go on, you know, we had a rough call or a rough fire or something, we can have that discussion. So it's processed a little bit more before we get home. The commute honestly helped me a lot too. You know, I've worked stations that are 10 minutes from my house and I've worked stations that are 40 minutes from my house and the ones that were 40 minutes from my house. I was so much nicer coming home, throw a podcast on, I would get my head in a different space, think about what I was going to do the rest of the day and be able to plan it. And then by the time I got home and came through the door, didn't really matter what was going to be thrown at me because I had decompressed enough from work that I wasn't still wound up. My heart rate wasn't still through the roof waiting for tones. Again, I wasn't thinking about the next shift. So I think those two are really big game changer journaling too. Honestly, what I recommend now to people, which I wish I would have done sooner is if you're going to take that decompression time, take two to five minutes in your car or in your truck before you leave the station, pull your notes app out and do a quick gratitude journal, write the things you're grateful for, or type out how your shift was, the things you want to change the next shift. But it's some level of processing that your mind can work through it before you get home and end up throwing your burdens onto your family because you're frustrated from your shift and you're not able to process it properly. Yeah, we talk about that tricky transition a lot on this podcast. I'm sure you've heard it multiple times because it's ultimately the number one question that we get. Why are they so upset every time they come home? Like we know that they want to see us and we've missed them, but they come home so grumpy and they take it out on the kids and they take it on to the dog. And it's the frequently asked question of frequently asked questions. I think that that was a great way of describing it from your perspective. I know we talk about a lot what works for us, but from your perspective as the firefighter coming back into the home, if you didn't have that 40 minute decompression time in your car or you didn't have the opportunity to sit down with your crew for 15 minutes, if you didn't have those two options, what would be a good way to transition back to home and how can the spouse help with that? So I'm going to take a lesson out of the book of my old man right here because I remember this vividly from my childhood. I actually think he was a fantastic example of how to do this. So because he was a state trooper, they had take home cars. So his commute home was on duty. So until he pulled him to the driveway, he was completely on duty, ready to respond and everything like that. And then he would go out of service in the driveway. So he literally had zero decompression time, like 30 seconds, maybe up to the door. And the communication for him was huge. I understood from a very young age, I'm talking like five or six years old that, hey, dad just needs like 30 minutes. When he gets home, she's 30 minutes. My mom understood. He had already talked to her about that and what he needed. He would literally go into the bedroom, close the door and read a book for 30 minutes. He's a big like Wild West guy. So he'd read it like some Wild West book or something like that for 30 minutes, get his mind off everything, take a shower and then come out for dinner or breakfast or whatever. If he's working nights or days. So I think that from the family perspective, allowing us that time without making us feel bad about it. I know that can be a touchy subject too. I know with several of my buddies that when they go home, that's their biggest frustration is they feel like, you know, they're made up to be the bad guy for asking for time. So I think that's huge. But at the same time, we also have that responsibility to speak up on as first responder as well. You know, if we don't express to y 'all what we need, then I don't think it's fair to expect y 'all to read our minds and meet us halfway if we're not willing to take steps toward

"The design strategic of a conversation when it comes to podcasting is what creates this intimacy and this connection with your listeners and gets them to want to keep coming back. Most hosts never achieve the results they hoped for. They're falling short on listenership and monetization, meaning their message isn't being heard and their show ends up costing them money. This podcast was created to help you grow your listenership and make money while you're at it. Get ready to take notes. Here's your host, Adam Adams. Hey, podcast search your host, Adam Adams. And I'm stoked to have a great guest today. And the problem, there's only one problem. I think we could do a dozen episodes with her or at least nine, at least close to a dozen of just unique things. And we may or may not cover lots of stuff. So I want you to have a pen and paper ready if you're driving, maybe listen to it again, because honestly, there's so much that's going to come at you and it's going to come so fast that I believe that if you're taking notes, it will be a little bit better. So we've got Melanie Benson, who actually started one podcast, let it go, started another podcast, booming success, like massive success. The numbers on this podcast are incredible. Three hundred and fifty episodes as we're recording now. Well, over one hundred ratings and reviews, which, by the way, listen to this point, six percent of all podcasts in our world, there's five million podcasts, point six percent of them, not even a percent, not even one percent, not even one out of one hundred has one hundred ratings for reviews. And she's got like well above that. And she also recently started another another podcast with a co -host. And so some of the things that I want to discuss with Melanie Benson today is how she gets some of the length of the episodes, how she interviews. She says she likes to hone in on her inner Oprah. And I know she's a great interviewer because she's able to be concise with her episodes. I want to talk about how a podcast works with her business because her show does that. Want to talk a little bit about how she's growing her podcast, because that main podcast amplify your success. It has amplified success as a podcast itself. Talk about the two podcasts. Is it good? Is it bad? Talk about solo casting, co -hosting, how to title episodes and maybe some of the failures that she's seen so that you don't have to go through that. And what she does as a business owner, she supports entrepreneurs like you and me, how to stand out in a crowded market. Right now, we have so many influencers, so many people that are making noise and it makes it difficult for your perfect avatar, your perfect person that you want to work with you to choose you over the dozens and dozens of other people that they see all day, every day on social media and on podcasts just like yours. So how do you stand out? So we're going to get through a little bit of this and it's going to be fun. So grab a pen, grab a pencil, a paper and let's dive in. Melanie, first and foremost, I was looking at your two different podcasts and I was noticing something that was pretty much almost a stamp. You know how when you have a stamp like a rubber stamp every single time, something looks almost the same. Now, you could put that stamp in a different color and it'll look that color. But what I mean is almost every episodes in that 20 to 30 minute mark, my episodes are not like that. The might listener think that they need to do this length or that length but I want to discuss the length of an episode with you for a little bit and there's a lot of questions around it because sometimes it's easy to go over when you're having a good time or when you're asking extra questions. And so my first question about the length of an episode is like, do you have a timer or how is it that you're getting all these so consistently like a rubber stamp? Such a great question and thanks for having me, Adam. You have such an awesome podcast. I've been very much looking forward to our conversation today. So I've studied neuro -linguistic programming as part of my career track and one of the things about neuro -linguistic programming is there is a concept of being in time or through time. And I am the person who, it's through time, I can see where I am in time at any given moment and because I can see where I am in any given time, I'm really good at managing time. So that's the truth of it. And we were talking in the green room a bit about my background with podcasting. I've been podcasting since 2009, 2010, something like that. And before that, I did the OG type of podcasting before we invented it where I did interviews that would go out via CDs. And so I've been interviewing people for a very, very long time, close to 20 years. And one of the things I know is that the strategic design of a conversation when it comes to podcasting is what creates this intimacy and this connection with your listeners and gets them to want to keep coming back. It's what gets them to say, Hey, have you listened to this podcast? Or, Hey, do you know Melanie? Like, have you ever listened to Empire? So the strategic design of each episode comes down to how long does my audience tend to listen to podcasts? And there is science that says 20 minutes to 25 minutes is an ideal time slot. Now, just to be totally truthful and make sure everybody has the full picture. My solo episodes, because I do three types of episodes on my podcast, Amplify Your Success. My solos are about 20 minutes because like, nobody wants to hear you talk for a really, really long time, right? Well, maybe some people do like Joe Rogan maybe, but I feel like everyone wants to hear me talk a lot. Oh yeah, of course. Cause you have that sexy radio voice. So of course you would, right? All right. Awesome. So people just turn off after a little while? Well, they get distracted. So let's say I'm driving my kids to school and I listen to podcasts. I got a 15 minute drive or I'm on my walk. What is that arc of the time that they're going to listen? I'm at the gym at about the 20 to 25 minute mark. People start getting distracted. And the key is, do they pick back up where they left off? Or do they skip to something else? Like most of us have this shiny object syndrome always pulling us to the next thing. And so I found that that 20, 25 minute mark is sweet for my solos, but with my interviews, sometimes we're going 40 to 45. And it's just, can you create a compelling conversation that keeps the listener engaged? So when you schedule an interview, do you tell the guest that it's going to be 20 to 25 minutes? Do you tell the guest to be ready for an hour, but I'm going to try to keep it under 30 or like, is there a communication there prior to recording? What does that look like? I'm really big on pre -framing expectations. And I think the more we can tell people what to expect, the better the experience is going to be for everybody. So I tell people that we're planning for 45 to 50 minutes for our conversation, but that means we're going to be connecting a little bit. We're going to be testing your tech. And I try to keep the interview to air at around 30 to 35. And then I even do that when I'm in the green room with them and I'm like, okay, I just want to make sure you know, we're going to go this long. If we're on a roll and it's really like good stuff, we might go a little bit longer, but I try to help them understand how to navigate their answers so that they can think about how long am I going in the answer itself so that they're measuring their own information sharing. You're not saying in 54 seconds, how do you do this? Or in 31 seconds, how do you do that? No, but I might say we're running close and there's something I really want to ask them because I always save two fun questions for the end of my episodes. So my audience knows that the fun question comes towards the end and the people that love those types of answers, they're going to listen.

"Yes it Divine again, Friday and today is September 1st, 2023, this episode is 4 .31 from this Mike Rich, from this Mike Mah, and we are in September, that's how easy it was, well it's it's also September 1st and it's small Saturday, oh small Saturday yes yes yes, that's two times in a row that you've missed it, oh yeah, two weeks in a row, no no I would bring it up, third week is strike three you're out, I'm sorry, well but I can't really do that because I there's not a replacement for you, although I'd like to replace you, you sure, it's just not gonna happen, won't be the same show, well you know, there's a lot of things I'd like to do with you, like what, I don't know, go out trolling in an airboat out the Everglades, I'm kidding, well I love you to death man, I would never never want anything to happen to you, really, well I'm here, yeah and you're here on small Saturday, and I'm here, I almost died, you did, yeah, oh I feel bad now that I just gave, you almost killed me, a rant on how I wanted to take you out the Everglades in an airboat, well you almost killed me what, 15 minutes ago, how, I was laughing so hard that I almost died, why because I came in looking like, no I'm just wondering what is wrong with your head, is it St. Patrick's Day, have you ever seen that comedian Carrot Top, no, yeah, you'll have to look him up, he's famous, you want me to tell people, redhead comedian, well I came in as a big joke, because today I decided, because sometimes I bleach my hair, and you know, just to have a different look, and so I, different, yeah, it's different all right, and I, and you look at the box, I really, I tried to do it too quick and bought one of those boxes off the Walmart deal, and they don't have the most expensive bleach items there, so you read on the book, and they tell you the amount of time you should leave it in there, and well, you fell asleep, no I left it the amount of time, went into the, showered it out, then about 10 minutes after dried it, came out a little more orange than I wanted, in fact it came out orange, and I didn't want any orange, I think if somebody look at you, they know which party, political party you're going for, yeah, but it's not like orange, it's not like the whole, the whole head isn't orange, I mean actually if we wanted to, we could make a Irish flag out of my head, I just, because I got white on the sides, yeah, and then there's the top, in the middle there is orange, if we just went and got some green dye and did like a mohawk strip in there, we'd have all the colors of an Irish flag, I can roll with that, you just look like a guy who's standing in the rain waiting for the bus and get rusty, that'd be an awful long time, buddy, if somebody asks you what the hell is wrong with your hair, just say this is a primer, actually some people liked it or whatever, it's not like really carrot topish, and like I'm like some kind of redhead or whatever, but it's noticeable, let's just say that, and so this whole experiment, it's not like my first rodeo, dude, I've done this before, so I got to go make a trip to Sally's Beauty today, because I had to get the professional coloring, so that after we do this podcast, I'm gonna go home and fix it, oh my god, let me just explain what happened, so man walks in, and it's dark in the hallway, so I open the door, and then he comes to me making coffee, and I burst and laugh, I almost end up on the floor, laughing for what, 10 minutes, oh yeah, I couldn't get you to stop, I thought I was gonna have to call, you know, EMTs, yeah, because his head is completely orange, yeah, it's not, come on, that's how I see it, I know, I am so happy that he prolonged my life for 15 years now, just like, thank you, well, you know, they say that laughter is medicine to the bones, yeah, well, my bones are fine, except that you were laughing so hard, they're rattling, you may want to go get a check, he's taking the dating so serious, he's going over a complete overhaul, no, I mean, I was gonna do that, whether I was going over to South Beach to see this Colombian or not, yeah, well, it's just like, oh yeah, I mean, I don't know, she might, you know, after, you know, spending a half a day with me, it might be the, you said, only half a day I ever see her, you said you don't like hippies, so you look like one now, that's for sure, oh yeah, yeah, that's so awesome, I took a picture, I'm gonna save that picture for the rest of my life, you need to, every time I'm gonna have to be down, like, mentally, this is what I need to see, that's gonna lift me from any type of dirt, yeah, ah, thank you, that was really nice, you're welcome, we have, we have Matt here with the primer on his head, you're painting cars, so he painted first rusty, so you know what he's painting over, I mean, that's a great idea, you just say, hey, I'm gonna color my head, so I want to know, I don't want to miss any place, no, or I could just be a walking billboard, for Rust -Oleum, just so awesome, if nothing works, I could go out there and just stand on the corner with a, with a can of Rust -Oleum, that'll get rid of the, hey, look at this, and get, turn it white again, it's just, if nothing works, home people will fix it, what do you think, how would I get Rust -Oleum out of there though, would I have to use like lacquer thinner, yeah, just, like, yeah, can you imagine, that'd be worse, you think, bleach burns, no, that was burning a little, you just spray lacquer thinner, maybe when it was starting, my head was starting to burn a little an itch, I might have thought to get into the shower, you just burn it, yeah, yeah, that's what happened, last time I told you about a story, when teacher was pulling my hair in the first grade, and he said I would go home and shave my head, that's what I would, maybe, that's the time, that's what I would have done in defense of no more hair pulling, yeah, but it might be a good idea, no, I don't need to, because I just got done buying $40 worth of stuff that'll fix it, yeah, just send me a picture before you go there, so I'll give you a stamp of approval, okay, so I don't want you to get depressed, yeah, I'll just wear a beanie, maybe, I'll be the only guy in South, South Beach with a beanie, beanie's those little, you know, the only idiot in Miami, 90 degree weather, and I'm in a beanie, you know what the, the Haitian, Haitian mamas, they, they have this shower head, oh yeah, when they go to Publix for shopping, I call them Haitian mamas, yeah, big ladies, they come and they have, they're wearing this awesome, it's all right, man, I, it's not my first rodeo, I've done it before, so, I love it, some people liked it when I was in Cali, they just, you know, it didn't, it wasn't that orange, and they kind of blended, this one might have a little more red, I know, you're not, you're not going that direction, like, you know, then the, in the male's direction, but California would accept anything, right, that's probably these, anything other guy, except poop on the street, I mean, my hair's, nothing, nothing, yeah, well, let's go to officials, and that is Julian Bruce, TeraKitara Apache Music, we thank you for all the tunes, because we are so grateful for the intro song, Divine Aprils was written and produced by them for us, exclusively, we're looking forward to see you in the town very soon, they are right now having a concert and zoo in Minnesota, and then they, in the winter, that would be our season, they will be here that doesn't mean you should stop taking care of your body, or send some loved ones for a little massage, or flexology for treatment, and don't forget your trail mix, we talked about that yesterday, and Beach SOS, weekend's here, Friday, small Saturday, we are here, and we are ready to deliver anything from our items that are available at beachesos .com, no delivery charge, and takes us maybe 30 -45 minutes to get you and meet you at the entrance to the beach, and if you're working in the office in zip code 34102, get ready, we're going to be delivering lunches to offices for $10, yeah, delivered between $10 and $12, right to your desk, nice fresh organic salads, sandwiches, European sandwiches, and many more, just wait for us to wave the flag, we're working on it very hard, it's going to start $10 lunch, we just want to take care of our local people, I'm so happy to do that, right, why are you, why do you have to deliver to their desk, don't you think anybody down here in the zip code doesn't work at a desk, maybe they don't have desk, you're right, maybe somebody in the garage, well I mean you've kind of narrowed it to where you've got to be in a desk, I'm sorry, let me take it back, we don't deliver to the desk, we deliver under desk, and anywhere, so if you're changing oil, we're just gonna put it on your tire, yeah, that's it, just on the ground, yeah, so we're done with that, right, yeah, well I tell you what, you have a competition to do, yeah, yeah, why, somebody take, I just spent, I just spent today because we're taping it on a small Saturday, Friday, it's after 9 p .m, I just spent a beautiful sunset with nice looking fella, oh really, yeah, it's just like you, good looking, same name, right, yeah, oh wow, yeah, and really hard working and honest, really, yeah, nice, so just, just be careful, as opposed to me, yeah, well, exactly right, just be careful, you're not the only one here, okay, yeah, you better step up your game, I will, yeah, because he's single too, by the way, okay, right, maybe we can collaborate together and go to, you know, check out some, some places together, this is Matt and Matt, you made your choice, yeah, you choose, you want Matt or Matt, well I have a new intel for you, okay, about the situation on the beach, so first of all, there's a reason why some of our beaches are closed, right, I cannot tell you which, you know, which person gave it to me and, you know, but we have intel from the first hand, right, and in other words, we have a rat, I'm sure he's gonna appreciate that, I'm kidding, no, they have to be careful, let's call it more politically correct informant, right, and here's the deal, is that they have jobs and need to keep them, and I'm just joking about that, you know, they know what's in the know, and I think that the public generally has a right to have that knowledge, I mean, this isn't like we're setting up some kind of missile defense, no, it's public knowledge, but I just never got to it, because we are busy with other things, so we, they, they drug a lot of sand to the beach, they want to, you know, restore the beaches, we paid x amount of money, and they wanted to make it nice and pretty for the season, guess what, this hurricane came and the sand is gone again, oh yeah, it's back in the water, unbelievable, yeah, so that's what we're dealing with, now the beach entrances, they're all the damage that was, and I'll give you a list of the beaches that are closed, because there's not many that is left as a shutdown, but I want to ask public, if anybody listening to this, which I hope there are, there is people, and we know there are, please do not climb over the fences, because we can get, first of all, hurt, and we just had a situation when somebody got hurt, and EMS was called, because they were climbing over the fence on the beach, which says no trespassing, right, like, you know, why would you do that, that's kind of evident, big fence, yeah, signs that say don't go on beach, that means climb over, right, yeah, or, or it means that somebody wasn't using common sense, which is the theme of this week, and will be the theme of this show, fraternity, yeah, exactly right, common sense, because we have it, coming together as a community, right, using common sense, did I, let's look, let's be clear, so don't climb over the fence, because we just had person hurt themselves, EMS was called, so big show about that, and very important thing that people don't understand, and I didn't know that either, because that's also a lot to do with the closures of the beaches, is we had a lot of turtle nests, and that's why people, and we are asking them, you know, don't put lights on, on your houses, so if you like, if you're the luckiest person that have a beach house, then we're gonna ask you turn off your lights, or dim them on the evening, so you know, we don't have even more turtles getting lost on the shore, but 29, let me repeat this, 29 out of 32 nests, turtle nests, are gone, oh wow, or at least they're still trying to locate if there's anything, from that last hurricane, yeah, those, you know, the wooden spokes that they marked them with, they're all gone, so they now trying to find out if there's any eggs left, and if they found them, they put them, and they take them into a place that helps them to patch the turtles, yeah, and I didn't even know that, this is very interesting fact, that turtles always comes in the same place, yeah, it's kind of like salmon on the west coast, it's almost like you, you come always here, I can make as much as I can, you'll be back, you take the abuse, and you always come back, because we have free coffee and cookies, right, yeah, so that's, that's the same, so technically you're a turtle, you know what I'm saying, yeah, yeah, why not, yeah, you're also orange, no, at least from the head, you know, from the top of my head, yeah, I don't want to know more, so there's all those things that now they're dealing with, and you know, it's kind of sad, but also it's good to know that there are people here in the city, and especially employees of the city, they work hard, and for that reason, in Diva Naples and Coffee and Wine Bar, we made the promise from beginning of, before we, and if we can go and listen through our podcast, you're gonna hear our voices saying it, three, four years ago, we always said, anybody in uniform that shows up, and we always treat them for free, right, because we know they go above and beyond, and I'm just so appreciative that we have a lot of people working here that, that make this city safe, clean, yeah, and the way it is, because it could easily turn into Miami, and we would have this party and everything else, but you know, it's just thanks to those people working in certain departments, you know, that's why we don't have mess on the street, that we don't have crime, the police department, so yeah, we really appreciate, appreciate, you know, that every department do their part, and you know, we just want to make them feel like they are appreciated, so that's one of the things, and let me just tell you about the closure of the beach, so North Lake Drive is closed, 2nd, 3rd Street South, 10th, 14th, 16th, 18th, and 33rd Street South, they're all, or actually avenues, I'll take it back, they're all shut down, you can park your car there, but don't so there's not, it's not banded, you cannot park, you can park, make sure you pay for parking, because they'll still give you the 250, they are very active, and you know, for the obvious reasons, and you know, this just, we have parking around the city free, so let's just say those things that you want to pay for, that's the only way, you know, we, you know, keep the streets clean, and so on and so forth, so 32nd Avenue South just been opened, and that's a good news for our residents, because a lot of the local people go there, they fish, they, you know, chill, because it's far away from pier, and we just enjoy those entrances, so just that's another very good news, swimming advisory is lifted, so now we had little situation there, there was some bacteria in the water due to hurricane, but that's all gone, so we are clear, we have the clearance, we're good, we're good to go, right, yeah, you get everything you say to that, no, just that you can go down the beach now, and dip your toes in the water, so why you don't do that, I got my, my little wading pool at home, my baby pool, yeah, yeah, how that works for you, I'm all good with it, yeah, and sandwich with that, yeah, I have sandwiches once in a while, all right, good, okay, well just checking, which is still on the same schedule, same on, same program, fantastic, so now we have new segment, and this what, well, it's, we know what Tim Atten doesn't know, but I got it, I got a better way to say it, and it's, we know everything, that the guy who knows everything, doesn't know, there you go, did you follow the logic, yeah, I mean, it sounds like making fun of the the gentleman, the name Tim Atten, oh, it sure does, yeah, why sound like that, I don't know, because maybe you are, no, we're not making fun, no, we're just at play, we're making him famous, yeah, yeah, exactly, yeah, he should thank us for making him recognize even more, once they start listening to this podcast all the time, and it starts blowing up on Facebook, it'll be, you know, we're, we're, he's technically our colleague, he doesn't really respond too much to us, yeah, I mean, he's too busy writing articles, maybe some people aren't reading, yeah, we are not, we are not good in writing, so that's why we talk a lot, that's right, yeah, exactly, although we, we proclaim I'm a wordsmith, yes, you are, depends on the mood that we're in, so let me bring some news, what's going on around the town, because that's why Divine Naples Podcast is, we want to let you know what's going on, we want to bring you stories of our business people, so if you have somebody who want to share stories, if you have something interesting, events or anything like that, you can send us email info at divinenapels .com, or you can hit us on any social media under handle Divine Naples, and I just wanna, I did some research and digging, and there's so much we're gonna cover today and tomorrow, because we're in September, so we are preparing for season, season's coming, and there's a lot of going on, one thing that I'm not particularly happy is what's going on in Everglades, did you know that Everglades City, 100 year old building is coming down? Really? Yeah.

Patrick's Day, have you ever seen that comedian Carrot Top, no, yeah, you'll have to look him up, he's famous, you want me to tell people, redhead comedian, well I came in as a big joke, because today I decided, because sometimes I bleach my hair, and you know, just to have a different look, and so I, different, yeah, it's different all right, and I, and you look at the box, I really, I tried to do it too quick and bought one of those boxes off the Walmart deal, and they don't have the most expensive bleach items there, so you read on the book, and they tell you the amount of time you should leave it in there, and well, you fell asleep, no I left it the amount of time, went into the, showered it out, then about 10 minutes after dried it, came out a little more orange than I wanted, in fact it came out orange, and I didn't want any orange, I think if somebody look at you, they know which party, political party you're going for, yeah, but it's not like orange, it's not like the whole, the whole head isn't orange, I mean actually if we wanted to, we could make a Irish flag out of my head, I just, because I got white on the sides, yeah, and then there's the top, in the middle there is orange, if we just went and got some green dye and did like a mohawk strip in there, we'd have all the colors of an Irish flag, I can roll with that, you just look like a guy who's standing in the rain waiting for the bus and get rusty, that'd be an awful long time, buddy, if somebody asks you what the hell is wrong with your hair, just say this is a primer, actually some people liked it or whatever, it's not like really carrot topish, and like I'm like some kind of redhead or whatever, but it's noticeable, let's just say that, and so this whole experiment, it's not like my first rodeo, dude, I've done this before, so I got to go make a trip to Sally's Beauty today, because I had to get the professional coloring, so that after we do this podcast, I'm gonna go home and fix it, oh my god, let me just explain what happened, so man walks in, and it's dark in the hallway, so I open the door, and then he comes to me making coffee, and I burst and laugh, I almost end up on the floor, laughing for what, 10 minutes, oh yeah, I couldn't get you to stop, I thought I was gonna have to call, you know, EMTs, yeah, because his head is completely orange, yeah, it's not, come on, that's how I see it, I know, I am so happy that he prolonged my life for 15 years now, just like, thank you, well, you know, they say that laughter is medicine to the bones, yeah, well, my bones are fine, except that you were laughing so hard, they're rattling, you may want to go get a check, he's taking the dating so serious, he's going over a complete overhaul, no, I mean, I was gonna do that, whether I was going over to South Beach to see this Colombian or not, yeah, well, it's just like, oh yeah, I mean, I don't know, she might, you know, after, you know, spending a half a day with me, it might be the, you said, only half a day I ever see her, you said you don't like hippies, so you look like one now, that's for sure, oh yeah, yeah, that's so awesome, I took a picture, I'm gonna save that picture for the rest of my life, you need to, every time I'm gonna have to be down, like, mentally, this is what I need to see, that's gonna lift me from any type of dirt, yeah, ah, thank you, that was really nice, you're welcome, we have, we have Matt here with the primer on his head, you're painting cars, so he painted first rusty, so you know what he's painting over, I mean, that's a great idea, you just say, hey, I'm gonna color my head, so I want to know, I don't want to miss any place, no, or I could just be a walking billboard, for Rust -Oleum, just so awesome, if nothing works, I could go out there and just stand on the corner with a, with a can of Rust -Oleum, that'll get rid of the, hey, look at this, and get, turn it white again, it's just, if nothing works, home people will fix it, what do you think, how would I get Rust -Oleum out of there though, would I have to use like lacquer thinner, yeah, just, like, yeah, can you imagine, that'd be worse, you think, bleach burns, no, that was burning a little, you just spray lacquer thinner, maybe when it was starting, my head was starting to burn a little an itch, I might have thought to get into the shower, you just burn it, yeah, yeah, that's what happened, last time I told you about a story, when teacher was pulling my hair in the first grade, and he said I would go home and shave my head, that's what I would, maybe, that's the time, that's what I would have done in defense of no more hair pulling, yeah, but it might be a good idea, no, I don't need to, because I just got done buying $40 worth of stuff that'll fix it, yeah, just send me a picture before you go there, so I'll give you a stamp of approval, okay, so I don't want you to get depressed, yeah, I'll just wear a beanie, maybe, I'll be the only guy in South, South Beach with a beanie, beanie's those little, you know, the only idiot in Miami, 90 degree weather, and I'm in a beanie, you know what the, the Haitian, Haitian mamas, they, they have this shower head, oh yeah, when they go to Publix for shopping, I call them Haitian mamas, yeah, big doesn't know, there you go, did you follow the logic, yeah, I mean, it sounds like making fun of the the gentleman, the name Tim Atten, oh, it sure does, yeah, why sound like that, I don't know, because maybe you are, no, we're not making fun, no, we're just at play, we're making him famous, yeah, yeah, exactly, yeah, he should thank us for making him recognize even more, once they start listening to this podcast all the time, and it starts blowing up on Facebook, it'll be, you know, we're, we're, he's technically our colleague, he doesn't really respond too much to us, yeah, I mean, he's too busy writing articles, maybe some people aren't reading, yeah, we are not, we are not good in writing, so that's why we talk a lot, that's right, yeah, exactly, although we, we proclaim I'm a A highlight from Matthew: Emmanuel (Which Means God With Us)

"You know, there is a world of difference between saying to someone that I am for you and telling them that I am with you. These two things do not mean the same thing. There's a world of difference between telling someone, I'm for you, I'm in your corner, I'm rooting you on, you've got this. There's a world of difference between telling someone that and telling them, I'm with you. In World War I, there was a lieutenant. His troops were getting ready to go over the edge. They were ready to take on the enemy. They were ready to cross the trenches. And this lieutenant, he's anxious. He's nervous about what might happen, and he sees a commander coming down through the trenches. The commander looks at this man, and he can see the anxiety. He can see the nerves there, and so he comes alongside him, puts his arm on him, and he points out. He points out to where they're going. He points out to no man's land. And he tells them, when we go out there, I'm going to be with you. We're going to do this together. And that gave the younger man a sense of confidence. It wasn't the old grizzled veteran just saying, you got this, from a distance, and go do it. Rather, he was saying, I'm going to be with you as you do it. I'm with you in the trenches, and I'm going to be with you in the battle yet to come. As we said, it's one thing to tell someone I'm for you. That's easy. You can do that to anyone. It's another thing to say, I'm going to invest myself in the outcome of what you're going through. I'm going to enter into the crucible of your pain with you, at your side. There's a comfort when a commander or a general does it, but how much more so when a god does that. When god not only gives us a word and says, hey, you got this. I'm for you. I'm in your corner. But rather when he says, I am with you as you face this. There's something encouraging about that. In today's text, it's exactly what we see. In today's reading, the birth of this child, the one who had come from a throne down to a manger. In this text, we see that this one was to be named Immanuel. That this one was the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy. And that his name literally means God with us. God with us. Not just God for us, but God with us. Verse 23 of our text will say, behold, the virgin shall be with child and bear a son. They shall call his name Immanuel, which means God with us. This is one of the primary attributes, one of the primary things that makes our god cool, that makes our god awesome. One of the primary things is because he didn't just create the cosmos, spin it like a top, and then go off and watch us from a distance to see how things would turn out. Rather, from the get -go, from Jump Street, from the garden, that which he created, he dwells with. He creates Adam, he creates Eve, and then he walks and talks with them in the cool of the afternoon. The pagan gods didn't do this sort of thing. They didn't pay attention necessarily to everything that was going on. The god of the deists, the people who think that God is just this aloof god out in the cosmos somewhere that has nothing to do with us, who wants that kind of god? Thank God that's not the god we have. Rather, we have a god who is with us in the midst of everything we're going through. This was true in the garden. It was true at Sinai. It was true in the tabernacle. It was true in the temple. That's true for even us as New Testament believers because where does God reside now? God is with us. Do you know how the book of Matthew closes? Do you know what the very last verse is? Here we see as Jesus is introduced, his name means, I'm with you, God with us, the very last verse in the book of Matthew, the very last block of text in the book of Matthew says the same thing. In the Great Commission, we see this. Go therefore, make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit, teaching them to serve all the things I've commanded you, and lo, I am with you even to the end of the age. You see that? There's a bookend. The moment Jesus is introduced in chapter 1, the message is that God has come down from the throne to be with his people. And then prior to his ultimate ascension, he says the same thing because I'm going to leave my helper. Oh, and by the way, I am with you even to the end of the age. That's a God we can love. That's a God we can worship. A God who is not just for us but a God who is with us. All right, if you would, let's look at verses 18 and 19. We're going to talk about the God who is with us as we see of his birth. In verses 18 and 19, we're going to see what was going on with Mary Joseph, and then we're going to work our way through the text as time will allow. Okay, verses 18 and 19. Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows. After his mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. Then Joseph, her husband, being a just man and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly. All right, at the start of this passage, we see something just very ordinary, something as natural as natural can be. There's a woman, an individual who's pregnant, a pregnancy that will lead to childbirth. Very natural, happens all the time. However, in these verses, we see that there's something unnatural or at least unusual that's going to take place. Verse 18 adds an unordinary qualifier. It says that there's going to be a pregnancy, normal, but in this case it will occur without physical union. Now I'm not a physician, but I have studied anatomy and the like, and I know that's just not the way that this works. Well, verse 18, we're seeing the seeds for something that we call the virgin birth, and this is one of the most important things to understand with regards to Christ's birth, with regards to the incarnation, because this is not an average everyday event. Rather, this is a miracle, and it's not just a miracle, but it's a fulfillment of prophecy, because Isaiah said this is the way it was going to go down. Behold, there be a virgin who would give birth to a child. Now verse 18 clarifies it. It's not Joseph's child, and for these verses, we know this much. They're betrothed, but there's been no physical union then. Now if you've seen Fiddler on the Roof, you remember the matchmaker? Remember the matchmaker? Well, they had similar things throughout Jewish history. They would have a season in which people were brought together. This was tradition. They were brought together by matchmakers and parents and others. They were put into a union, and yet there was a year. I know you want to sing it. There was a year of time after they were brought together in which they were sort of betrothed. We might consider it engaged. It's not really a point -for -point analogy, but they were betrothed. They spent a year in this estate prior to physical union. That's what's going on here. It's actually much stronger than an engagement. This is a strong relationship that they have, and yet it has not been consummated physically at this point. And so, all of a sudden, out of the blue, Mary is with child. Uh -oh. Now, we have lost touch with the word scandal. We really have. I mean, dear heavens, everything is a scandal. It doesn't matter what news. Whatever you pick up, there's a scandal on every page from every direction. It seems like every aspect of celebrity or politics or athletics or what have you, scandal, scandal, scandal. We've lost touch with it. In fairness, it didn't always used to be this way. If you're watching a TV show, if Barney Fife stole part of Andy Griffith's sandwich, they can make a whole scandalous episode out of that. There was things in the past that seemed scandalous at the time that now it's absolutely nothing. We've lost touch with scandal to the point we look at this text, and we don't understand what Joseph's going through. And his culture and his time, what he and Mary were just experiencing. She's pregnant, and there's no father. There's been no physical union. He is betrothed to someone who's pregnant, doesn't know what's going on. This was a scandal of scandals. And in his day, based on an understanding of Deuteronomy, this could even have led to her death. This was not a small thing. This is a huge, huge event that's taking place. And so, in verses 18 and 19, we see Joseph in the middle of a conundrum. He's betrothed to this individual who has this situation going on. He doesn't know how it happened. He doesn't know exactly what's going on, but he has concern. Now, he cares for Mary enough that he doesn't want to see this become the public spectacle that it otherwise very well could be. And so he attempts to find some way to accommodate her well -being, but apart from being able to marry her, because he's a just man, and there's obviously been in his mind an infidelity that's taken place that would disqualify that union. Now, before he could act on that impulse, an angel intervenes. Let's look at verses 20 and 21 to see what happens in this intervention. Verse 20, but while he thought about these things, while Joseph thought about all this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she'll bring forth a son, you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins. All right. As we said in verses 18 and 19, Joseph and Mary, Mary is now pregnant. Joseph is trying to figure out what to do. And in verse 20, we see that while he's contemplating, which I'm sure this took some time for him to work this through, but while he's thinking about these things, he goes to sleep. He's worried, he's anxious, he falls asleep, and in the midst of his sleep, an angel of the Lord comes to him in a vision, in a dream. And this happens at other intervals as scripture as well. And when the angel comes to Joseph, it's a simple message. It says, Joseph, what you think has happened is not accurate. But let me tell you, you're worried you should take Mary as your wife. You shouldn't be. Do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. Now, I don't know what kind of theologian Joseph was at this point. We believe him to be older than Mary, but we don't know what kind of theologian he was. But whatever his theology was, he probably didn't fully understand that last statement. That which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. Joseph didn't have John Calvin around to explain all the Trinitarian implications of this. And I imagine Joseph had more questions than answers, even when he hears this news. And yet he knew this much, even if he didn't have all the Trinity figured out at this time, even if he doesn't know what it means for the Spirit to overshadow her, even if he's still going, what does that mean? He at least knew this much, that Mary's pregnancy was not a function of her sin. He knew that there was not some other father in some tent down the street. He knew that the child that she was pregnant with was from God. And some way that he probably couldn't fully articulate, but he knew it was from God. And then God, through the angel, tells Joseph what to name him. Now naming rites in Jewish culture or any culture come from seats of authority. If you think about it in the garden, in the garden, Adam and Eve, you know, they're given the garden and all the animals are frolicking about as animals do. And Adam and Eve had a job, they actually had a couple of jobs. One was to take dominion over that which God had given them, and another thing was to do what for the animals? To name them, right? The greater names, the lesser, right? That's why parents named children are not children naming parents. Kind of glad it doesn't work that way. In this case, we see that God himself, through the angel, takes ownership over the name of his own son. It's not up to Joseph to name. He says his name will be Jesus. His name will be Jesus. We'll see that a little bit more in the verses yet to come. Whatever the case here is, the idea is that as this child is born of the Holy Spirit, this child comes with a purpose. His name will be Jesus because Jesus means what? It means the Lord is salvation. His person is yoked to his work. The angel identifies his person and his origins from God, the Holy Spirit, but he also identifies here's what he's come to do, and we're going to see that a little bit more in the verses yet to come. What we're also going to notice here, just a minute, is that when the angel talks about who will come to save his people from their sins, remember last week we talked about this. The people didn't necessarily have a problem with their sins. You know what the great irony is? You give someone a cure for a disease they don't think they have. If you come running up to someone on the streets of Gulfport with a vial of some cure, some medicine, or what have you, for a disease they don't understand they got, they'll just say, you crossed the other side of the street. They won't care because they don't recognize what you're holding is the cure for a problem that they have. The same is true with sin. The culture around us doesn't really think they have a problem with sin, and if they do think sin is a problem, they do this thing that's convenient. They redefine sin to be something that is external to them, a problem other people have. Whatever the case, when people had no understanding that they need to be saved from sin, if anything that they need to be saved from, it was going to be from Rome, which is what we talked about last week. Their fear, their concern, Joseph's concern, Mary's concern, the people down the street's concern was not so much that, oh, my sin is going to get me. And yet, that was the spiritual guillotine that was over their necks and ours apart from this child that was born. Every man, woman, and child has stood condemned under sin. You read the Book of Romans, the first five, six chapters, as Paul is condemning the human race and saying, well, this is our problem. Then, of course, he introduces the solution. Well, the angel introduced the solution too and says, this one has come not just to make your life better, not just to pour a little Jesus seasoning on things to give you your best life now. This one came to this end, to this object, to save you from your sins, to save you from a problem that you might not even understand that you have and that our culture certainly doesn't understand it has. That's why he came, and here's the thing. That's what the whole Old Testament said he would do. The Old Testament said when he shows up, when the Messiah we've been waiting from since Genesis 3 .15, when the seed shows up, he will come to save people from their sins, not what they were looking for in the first century, not what they were looking for in the 21st century. And yet the Old Testament prophecy said that's the guy to look out for, one who is not what you expect, one who will come to save you from your sins, one who is not going to come down on a red carpet from God, but will be born in a place like a manger. Isaiah 53, one of the most famous chapters that speaks to these issues, says this. This one would be wounded for our transgressions, bruised for our iniquities. The chastisement for our peace would be upon him. By his stripes we'll be healed. All we like sheep have gone astray. We have turned everyone to our own way, and the Lord has laid upon him the iniquity of us all. The angel got it, and he says in the manger, Joseph, and in the womb of Mary right now is the one that has come to do just that. And the cruel irony is the people won't be looking for that. As he gets older, they'll reject him. They'll reject what he came to do, and yet this is the one. This is the child. All right, let's take a look now at verses 22 through 25 and just kind of build on this case. Okay, verse 22. So all this was done, that it might be fulfilled, which was spoken by the Lord through the prophets, saying, Behold, the virgin shall be with child and shall bear a son. They shall call his name Immanuel, which is translated God with us. Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him, and took to him his wife, and did not know her until she had brought forth her firstborn son, and he called his name Jesus. All right, as we just said a moment ago, Christ's person is yoked to his work. The great problem in our age is that our culture doesn't do the same thing. At Christmastime in December, you just watch, people don't have a real problem with the person of Jesus so much. They like cute Jesus, even divine Jesus. That's not really the problem. The problem is his work. He came to convict us of our sins, to turn our hearts to God, to cause us to repent, and to rescue us from sins that most of us don't acknowledge that we have. But in this text, the angel spells it all out. He says this is the reason he's coming. This is the reason he's coming, in order to save them from their sins. And as he saves them from their sins, he will be the fulfillment of prophecies that said he would do just that, which is why even the angel quotes the Old Testament here. End of verse 23. Behold, the virgin shall be with child, shall bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel, which is translated God with us. There's a continuity you're supposed to see with that which is written down recorded in the Old Testament and that which comes on the scene here in Matthew chapter 1. God wants us to see that, and Matthew was desperate that his contemporaries saw it. Remember, their problem when they killed Jesus was they didn't recognize him for who he was. I mean, they had other issues too, but that was chief among them. They just didn't know what they were doing. Isn't that what Jesus said? Father, forgive them. They don't know what they're doing. Same idea. They had a Messiah on their radar that they wanted, and it wasn't this one, this guy. So at Matthew, when he's writing chapter 1, when he's writing to the Jews, he started with the genealogies we talked about last week, and he said, all right, this Jesus is going to be a son of Abraham, which makes him a Jew, and it's going to be a son of David, which makes him a king, or in the line of kings. His objective was to tell the Jewish audience who this Jesus was. Well, here, as chapter 1 continues, he gives the biography even more so, and he says that this one, this Jesus, which means God is salvation, is also named Immanuel, which is an Old Testament prophecy that means God with us. Matthew's making the case, even here in chapter 1, clearly in chapter 1, to a Jewish audience, that this is the Jewish Messiah. Now, would that be compelling? Well, to some, yes. To others, not so much. Now, the past 15 minutes or so, we've quoted Isaiah a few times. I think I referenced Malachi as well, but there in verses 22 through 25, we see the reference again to Isaiah more acutely, more specifically, and this is a reference that to the Jewish audience should have resonated with him, but again, as we just said a moment ago, the irony is that it didn't. The reason that's ironic is this. Matthew knew that many of his fellow Jews had rejected Jesus while simultaneously longing for a Messiah, and his objective here in chapter 1 is to say, hey, guys, they're the one and the saint. The one you rejected is the one you were looking for, and that's what Peter does in Acts 2. He tells the Pharisees, you know the one you killed, the one you nailed to a tree, the one you hung on the cross? That was him, and when they finally get it in the book of Acts, when they finally get that, what happens to them? Scripture says they're just broken to the heart because then they understand what they did. They understand that the light of life had come to them. They didn't recognize it, and then they killed them. As we look to wrap up, we're going to build on all these things as we head towards baptism, as we go towards the temptation, and the things that are going to follow in the book of Matthew, but as we wrap up, I want to return briefly to the word Emmanuel, which we've already established means God with us. Now, earlier I used the term, the term deus. Let me explain briefly. I know many of us know it, but let me explain briefly for those who don't. Every culture, when it comes to religion, there's two camps that they fall in. One, assuming that they believe in God at all, one is the camp of the deist. That camp believes God exists, but we can't know him. He formed the world around us, but then he went off and he does his thing and we do ours. That's deism. As Christians, we're not deists. The alternate is what we call theism. Theism posits that God exists, but you can know him, and what's more, he wants you to know him. You and I are theists, and if you drill into that term even more, we're monotheists. We believe in one God. We're not polytheists that believe in a lot of them. We believe that there is a God. You can have a relationship with him. There is a God and there is just one. Now, that's highly desirable because the alternative is you have a God you can't know that doesn't care about you, and that's what a lot of agnostics in our day do. They go, I think there might be a God somewhere, but they really don't think you can have a relationship with him. Who wants that? Who desires that? Well, the picture in Matthew 1 and throughout the book of Matthew, the picture that's painted here is completely different. It's not about a God who formed the cosmos and went away. Rather, it's a God who is ever -present with creation and undergoes the life experiences, the human experiences that we do up to and including birth. You have a God that can relate to you. You know, one of the greatest hardships or plagues on our age is the plague of loneliness. It's this idea that no one can relate to what I'm going through. The life circumstances have conspired in such a way that I'm going through something that no one can really understand, no one can really relate to, and then there's an isolation that comes with that, even a withdrawal. Maybe some people withdraw from us, and then we're left in this estate. Some of us, maybe many of us, are left in a state of loneliness, maybe for a season, maybe for a lifetime, and it's the hardest thing if you've experienced it. If that's you or someone you know, this message of God with us, and this word of manual should hold a special meaning. Others leave might us, others might forsake us, others might let us down, and yet the God who walked with Adam and Eve, when there was just two of them in the cool of the afternoon, walks with us still. Even we're just one of us. God is with us no matter what we're going through. He's not just munching popcorn, watching what you're going through this week. Some of us have a picture of God that He's up there in the clouds somewhere with a long beard, a long robe, and He's just kind of doing this to see what we do, and He's ready to punish us and the like, and He's there and we're here, and there's this distance. That's not the God of Scripture. The God of Scripture is a God who is intimate and close and wants to be close to you and wants your hand to fit in His. He doesn't call you a peon in the kingdom of heaven. He calls you a son or daughter, and that has meaning. What father or mother among us has not held the hand of our child and felt that proximity, felt that closeness, felt that bond, felt that unity that comes with holding your own? Well, that's what God wants with you. And even now, even if we've been fleeing from Him, His arms are open to this. He came as a babe and a manger, the most defenseless thing that you can possibly come. He came from a state of great glory into a state of great hardship, great difficulty. It would ultimately lead to His death, and yet He did it because He loves His people. He's not indifferent to us. He's not indifferent to us. The other problem that we can sometimes verge into is we can think that He's indifferent to me, but He's cool with other Christians, but I've done something that is so egregious or He knows my past or He knows the things I did yesterday because of that there's this gap. If there's any gap in your walk with God, it's not because He's drifted away from you. It's because you're pushing Him away. The God of this book does not withdraw from children, from sons and daughters, but He's like the parable of the prodigal son. His arms are open wide. Matthew 1, God with us. Matthew 28, God with us. Behold, I am with you even to the end of the age. Whatever you face this week, this book is not an abstract thing that just applies to other religious people or you on occasion. It applies to you today. God's with you as you face whatever you're facing, whatever hardship you're walking down, whatever valley you're traversing, God is with you, and that's a great encouragement of Scripture, and no other faith can present it except this alone. God is with us. We see it in Matthew 1. We're going to see it in Matthew 2 and the balance of the book. Let's pray. Join Dr. Toby Holt and Dr. Dominic Aquila for a tour of Israel in February of 2024. A highlight from Cardano Will Be The MOST IMPORTANT Altcoin Next Bull Market!

"I do think there's going to be a period where cash is eliminated. In this future utopia, we have flying cars, and there's jet packs, and everything's on a screen. We're not pulling out wadded paper, dropping it on the counter. Everything's going to be digital. Charles Hoxton believes Cardano will become the biggest crypto in the world, serving as a backbone of a new digital nation. I think I caught this speak. Yeah, this was the keynote address. I was in the crowd, folks. I was in the crowd. I was cheering. I was hollering. I was hooping, and then I got dragged out in a headlock. All right, people are scared of decentralized governance because they view it as something that takes away, but I never believe that. I think if you give people the chance to rise up and show who they are, what they can do, they will do amazing things. So that's our challenge, and that is why Cardano, I feel, is probably going to become the biggest cryptocurrency in the world, says Charles Hoskinson. Now, that is a bold statement. Bigger than ETH, bigger than Bitcoin, Nick. I mean, it's not a 0 % chance. What would you put it at, though? Would you put it in single digits? I mean, I would say it's tough to be bigger than Bitcoin. It's already good. It's going to be real tough to be bigger than Ethereum, but if I were to choose on any coin to do it, sorry, XRP. I am choosing Cardano to be that coin. 100 % agree. In my opinion, Bitcoin and Cardano are the only true crypto projects that have stayed to the cypherpunk ethos. I think by value, Cardano won't be able to touch Bitcoin, but by users, for sure. I think there's going to be so many hundreds of millions of people onboarded in Africa, in the Middle East, in Southeast Asia, on Cardano with their NFTs, with their smart contracts, that it's going to blow everything else out of the water. I firmly believe that. All right. All right. And one more quote from Charles here. I think it's going to be more than cryptocurrency. I think it's going to become the backbone of a new digital nation, a new society, a place where we can finally begin to trust each other again, a place where we do all our voting, a place where our money lives, a place where our digital life lives in every dimension and aspect of it, because we deserve that. A decentralized version, not the WF plant version. Oh yeah. You know, here's, oh, you laughed at that joke from the TV too loud. We know what you're laughing at. We're going to deduct your points. You're laughing too loud. That guy felt that was supposed to be a funny moment. Well, he did. And I'm sorry. So yeah, that's, it's essentially, guys, this is a, this is a scary thing I've said before. I'm gonna say it again. I do think there's going to be a period where cash is eliminated and this future utopia, we have flying cars and there's jet packs and everything's on a screen. We're not pulling out wadded paper, dropping it on the counter. Everything's going to be digital. And so do we want the, there are no choices and look, yeah, we just got to pull out our US gov ID or do we want some decentralized options and how do we get decentralized options? We get it with adoption. We get it with building and we get it with just education here. And so I think we really, really press that message. We can make that future because you go to, you don't have to use a credit card. You can use Apple pay. Tim Apple built something big enough where it's going to be, you know, used in a lot of places. I think we could do something similar with Cardano. I say, we, you know, they, you know, shout out to the junkies, but Charles and the team and what they're building and all the wallet makers out there, they're, they're really going to be what can get us to that next level, to that decentralized level. And that is where we all want to be. We don't want to be under the government's control. We don't want to live in 15 minute cities, but that is what they want us to do. All right. Let's talk about the South Korean exchange here. Crypto exchanges are required to hold minimum reserves starting in September. This is pretty big. All right. So they're going to hold a minimum reserve of funds of 3 billion won. Someone in chat might know that is, oh, wait, here we go. It's $2 .26 million. Bury the lead there. The new reserve requirement reportedly protect users in case of unforeseen issues, such as hacking or system failures. We keep going here. Additionally, the financial services commission's financial intelligence unit, whoa, has reportedly prepared a draft for the rules. These regulations come in response to requests from cryptocurrencies and exchanges for clear out clear crypto framework in response said all the Island holders set up to MTG here. All right. And now one more story here, CNBC covering Solana, dropping Bitcoin cash and Litecoin. Now, just the last part of that, they dropped Bitcoin cash. They dropped Litecoin. How do you feel about that? I don't care. They'll bring it back. All right. Well, if they were going to drop that, who would you want to replace it? Cardano. Okay. Okay. All right. All right. Nick might like Cardano folks. I mean, yeah. I mean, it's the most relevant. It's making the most moves. It has the biggest footprint outside of those other things. I mean, I'm sorry, Litecoin. Sorry. People would like XRP. There's probably some people, you know, I'm surprised they went with Solana polygon, you know, what they're doing with Starbucks and Reddit and so many other big brands, you know, I wouldn't, I wouldn't be surprised to see Matic or ADA up there. I think, you know, it might've been a better choice than Solana. Nothing. I have some Solana none against that team, but anybody got a Solana phone? It was like six people a day. All right. CNBC, one of the world's largest cable news networks providing real -time financial markets coverage has dropped Bitcoin cash and Litecoin and replace them with Solana. Meanwhile, they'll continue to cover news related to Bitcoin and need two of the most, you know, most valuable crypto platforms. We go here subsequently, Bitcoin cash and Litecoin are no longer in the top 10 by market cap and have emerging smart contracts and transactional networks that have taken positions in recent years. Litecoin and Bitcoin cash have a market cap of around 4 .8 billion and 3 .7 billion and are among the top 20 still coming in at 16th and 18th. I did not know Litecoin fell all the way almost to 20 there. Let's see. Let's go here. There you go. This is going to miss a coin or two. All right. So we go. Yeah. Litecoin coming in at 16 and then Bitcoin cash now coming in at 19 battling, battling this 3 .7 to $3 .8 billion market cap there. So Bitcoin cash fell 2 .8. Now dropping to 19. Looks like they're going to be out of the top 20. I would say out of the top 20 by the next bull run, then retail will buy a lot because there's still a lot of apps that have Bitcoin cash. So you're going to have retail. They're going to hear about Bitcoin. They're going to download Robinhood. They're going to see Bitcoin's $50 ,000, and they're going to see something with the same name that is $500. Oh, I'm just, why would I buy the one that's $50 ,000? I'm gonna buy the one that's $500. That's where the opportunity is. We're going to have a lot of that. And so I would expect it to, you know, maybe it'll drop and then it'll surge back. I don't know when it will surge back though.

You're our special cohost today. Thank you for having me. I have a question for you, Mark. Oh, you get, you get, you want to get right into it, huh? Oh yeah. Okay. Do you have any current God stories that you would want to share with evangelism on fire nation? Man, I have a cool God story from today. All right. I had a meeting right before our podcast recording and my meeting was at Panera Bread. And when I was meeting, I had someone come up to me that I had been praying for recently for a couple months. You know, I know a family member of hers and she asked me to pray for her and her family praying for all of her family, for those who may not be saved, those who have accepted Jesus Christ as their savior. So I've been praying for this individual for a couple, a couple of months and I haven't seen her since high school, Rick, and then she comes up the next table next to me where I'm having a meeting and she said, Hey Mark, is that you? And I look over and I said, Hey, what's going on? So I knew Rick, I knew right away that God answered my prayers. I knew that my mission was to share the gospel message with her. I shared the gospel message with her and another friend of mine who I haven't seen since high school, they were sitting together and I had the opportunity to share the gospel message with them. Turns out that both of them have given their life to Jesus. You know, they're born again believers. So we got the opportunity to just talk about how good God is. Oh, so that, that just happened today, Rick, that just happened today before the time of this recording, but let me tell you about something that happened yesterday. So I've been out evangelizing to, for the last two and a half weeks, I would say to multiple people and no one has been interested in hearing the gospel or knowing that I've had the opportunity to share the gospel with, have accepted Jesus as her savior. So I've been planting seeds, right? I've been planting seeds, but I'm telling you about two and a half weeks. No one out of all the individuals I spoke to share the gospel with has accepted Jesus as her savior. So I've been on this mission to persevere and not stop and to continue to share the gospel message with people, you know, and, and two, I find that one, that one person who's ready to receive Jesus as her savior and man, let me tell you something. There's a cool God story that happened yesterday. So I'm walking into a food lion and on the way in, I'm praying that God will connect me with someone who's ready to hear the gospel message and to receive Jesus as their savior. And as I'm walking in, you know, I'm praying this prayer because we, we know, Rick, that prayer is the secret sauce when it comes to anything relating to the Christian life. Right? Absolutely. Yeah. Right. Absolutely. And it's this power when you're evangelizing. So I'm calling on the Holy Spirit to lead me to that person as I'm walking into food lion and I see this girl walk in and man, I just got a sense, Rick, I got a sense that this was the person that I was supposed to witness to. So I went up to her and I asked her the big question. I said, Hey, I'm taking the, do you want to hear what I asked her? Absolutely. So this is what I asked her. This is how I broke the ice. This was how I decided to approach her. I went up to her and I said, Hey, I'm taking a poll. Would you like to give me a couple of minutes of your time so I can ask you a question about this poll I'm taking? And she said, sure. Yeah. Yeah. And I said, cool. I want to ask you the big question. She says, what is the big question? So I responded by asking her if she knows about God's amazing love for her and his plan for her eternal salvation, man, Rick, when I asked her that question, she was interested. I share the good news, you know, the gospel of Jesus Christ with her. She had a couple of questions and I answered the questions. She shared with me a period in her life that she had recently gone through that, which is painful times in her life where she wanted to give up, where she had no hope. And when she started hearing about God's amazing love and how he has died, Jesus has died for her to give her that free gift of salvation, she was just captivated when I was sharing the gospel with her. And she believed the gospel message, you know, and she accepted Jesus right in the middle of the aisle and food dying. I mean, Rick, this is like, this was a time where people were getting off of work and they're coming in there and they're shopping. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Right. This young lady named Phoebe, man, she had a bonus to listen to the gospel. She didn't care what anyone around her thought. She was so captivated by the love of God. She was captivated by the gospel message that she was just laser focused. She was undeterred by anyone around her and she wanted to hear the good news. And when she heard the good news, she believed the good news. And I had, you know, I had an opportunity to be the one that led her to Jesus in the middle of a food line, you know, a grocery store. How cool is that? That's awesome. Yeah. So that's a, that's a couple of God's stories that, you know, I want to share with you, but I'll think, I think the biggest God story happened recently, a couple of weeks ago, a young man by the name of Jamal Alfred, he's 18 years old. And remember, I guess it'd been like a month, month and a half ago, Richmond, Virginia, where we live RVA experienced its first mass shooting. Oh yeah. I remember that day. It was a tragic day in the news. Yeah. Just tragic. Right. And evangelism on fire nation. Here's what happened. There was a high school graduation that occurred in our city, a school called Huguenot High School. And after the graduation, people were coming out of the building and there was a mass shooting. Some students that just graduated from Huguenot High School got shot, killed. And there were some other injuries in the chaos of this mass shooting. So as I approached this young man, okay, I'm going to Walmart. I'm going there for one purpose. I'm going there to set some intentional time aside to go share the gospel. All right. One thing I love about the Holy Spirit, Rick, you know this man, but when the Holy Spirit, you could be anywhere, the Holy Spirit just puts on your heart to share the gospel message with someone on the spot unplanned, right? But I also am mindful and intentional on making time, intentional time, scheduling time, you know, putting it on my calendar to go out and share the gospel message with people. All right. This is one of those times. And I heard this guy pumping his music, man. He was in the parking lot, in his car, just pumping. I don't know what kind of sound system this guy had in his ride, but brother, let me tell you something. He was pumping. He was pumping. And then I'm listening to the music and I'm like, first I'm thinking like, man, this guy's cranking this music and it sounds so good. His system is awesome. But I started listening to the words and the rap music was talking about life. It was talking about purpose in your life. It's talking about finding who you are, what you were created for. And the words drew me in. So I looked at this young man and as I'm looking at him, I start to pray for him. As I'm praying for him, the Holy Spirit puts on my heart to go and speak to him. Okay. And I go up to him and I wanted to know, man, I wanted to know what that music meant to him. All right. This just wasn't a rap song for pure entertainment. This rap song, man, this rap was laying out some heavy duty, profound thoughts, right? Yeah. So I go up to him, Rick, and I'm like, Hey man, what's your name? You know? And he says, Jamal. And I asked him, I said, Hey, what does this music mean to you? And he started just really telling me, Hey, I'm really thinking about why I'm here. What is the purpose for my life? How did I get here? What's going to happen to me after I die? You know, and I'm thinking, I said, Jamal, you're, you're, you're thinking about some serious stuff. Not many people think about these things. Right. Right. And I asked him, I said, why are you thinking like this? I think there's something that has happened to you that has made you really start thinking deeply about these things. You know? And he told me, he said, yeah, man. He said, I, I went to, I just, I went to my high school graduation. I graduated from Huguenot high school after the graduation. You know, there was a mass shooting. I said, yeah, man. I heard about that on the news. And this is why he told me he was thinking so deep about his life. Not just about his life on earth, but what happens when he leaves this earth? So Rick, he asked me, Hey, I'm thinking about how did I get here? Number one, what my purpose is in this life that I'm living. Number two, and what happens to me after I die? Right. He's thinking about these things. And he goes on to tell me that when this shooting went on, he saw when the gunman took the gun out, when he started shooting people, that's going to be scary. And Rick, when he's telling me this, I'm looking on, just looking at the facial expressions and it's like, he's reliving this fear, you know? And he says, I said, well, what did you first do? And he, you know what he told me, he said, I hate to admit this, but I was so fearful that all I knew to do was to run away. He says, I started running and I started running faster. He said, then I tripped up and then he fell down. And he said, when he fell down, Rick, he's telling me that he could hear a bullet whiz by him. And he said that I know if I didn't fall down, I would have got shot and maybe even killed. And he said, he's been thinking that he's alive for a reason and that he's alive because he has a second chance. And he's trying to figure this out. He's trying to figure out what all this means, right? Oh yeah. And I said, man, I believe I know exactly what it means. And I started asking him, I said, do you think that you falling down could be the creator of the universe, God protecting you for this very moment for me to share with you the good news of Jesus Christ and how you come into relationship with God and how you accept Jesus as your savior so you can start a relationship with God and you can have eternity in heaven with God. And I said, do you believe that you're created in God's image? You're created to live for an eternity. He said, yes. And I went on to share the gospel message with him. He asked me some questions and I answered the questions for him and he believed the gospel message. And I think the most powerful thing that he believed was he believed that God loved him so much that God protected him by allowing him to trip up. He didn't get shot that he believed that God gave him a second chance. And he believed that Jesus is his savior, that Jesus died on the cross for his sins, demonstrated his love for him. And he believed the full gospel message. And I told him this, Rick, after I shared the gospel message with him, I said, you know what, you believe the gospel message, but before you receive Jesus Christ as your savior and the leader of your life, he's going to want you to repent, to turn away from your life as you're living it right now. And I have a question about that for our listeners that are non -relievers. Explain to them what repentance is, you know, and a couple of sentences if you can. Repentance is the number one great question. Repentance is this, to turn away from the life you're living right now and to live the life that God wants you to live and has created you to live. So I told Jamal, I said, look, before you make the decision to accept Christ, he wants, I said, he loves you so much that he gave his all for you, that he expects you to give your all to him. And this just isn't a prayer that you say. God wants you to accept him. Jesus wants you to accept him as your savior and leader. He wants you to repent from your life the way you want to live and live the life that he's created you to live. And I said, that's when you find true, the true meaning of life. And I said, before I lead you in this prayer, I said, are you willing to do that, Jamal? And his response to me, his answer to me was this. Yes, I know God has kept me alive to live my life for him. He has given me a second chance and I choose to repent from my way of life and to live the life that God has kept me alive to live. So that has been one of the most amazing God stories that I've experienced. And I'm so thankful that you're here co -hosting today because I'm trying to have Jamal come on to the show for him to share his God story of that event. He's introverted, right? Oh, yeah. And he's thinking about it. He's praying about it. And I'm hoping, you know, if it's God's will, he'll definitely be on. So I'm hoping that he'll come on to, you know, our podcast and he'll share not only that that, day you know, we met the day that he heard the gospel and, you know, when he made the decision to follow Jesus that day, but also, man, I would love for him to come on the podcast and just share more in detail with Evangelism on Fire Nation, the events of that day. I mean, man, I'm hoping that he'll come on and, you know, Evangelism on Fire Nation will get to hear his story of those events and what he was thinking, what he's been thinking ever since that mass shooting and just hear his story. And then also, man, I would love to hear how God has changed his life since that moment that we met and since that time that he accepted Jesus as a savior and his leader. That would be great. That would be awesome. So, you know, let's continue to pray about that. If it's God's will, Jamal will be here. Evangelism on Fire Nation. First of all, hey, Rick, I want to thank you for coming on and being our co -host today. Thank you for having me, Mark. You're welcome, brother. And thank you for giving me an opportunity to share my God stories. Evangelism on Fire Nation, keep Jamal in your prayers. Look, I believe God is going to do some great and mighty things with this man. He knows he has a second chance given to him by the one that created him. There's no more powerful revelation than that. So, Jamal, I'm thinking about you. Rick's thinking about you. Evangelism on Fire Nation is thinking about you and we're praying for you. And if you're listening to this, my brother, hit me up and let me know when you want to come on to share your amazing God story of when you accepted Jesus as your savior and the story of how you're overcoming that traumatic event at that mass shooting. And Rick, thanks again, man, for having me on today's episode and being our co -host. I appreciate you, brother. Thank you, Mark. I appreciate you. So as we close out today, what do you think is the best way for us to close out today's episode? You're the co -host, so... In prayer, just for those that are looking for a relationship with Jesus, a day of prayer, bringing him into their life. And I want Mark, as he usually does, to lead it. I think that's a great way to end it. For those out there right now, hey, I say this on most of our podcast episodes. This is a Christian podcast, but there's always people that are listening who have not accepted Jesus as your savior. There's always people out there who are getting ready to make that decision today at the moment of listening to this podcast episode. So if that's you out there and you know you haven't accepted Jesus Christ as your savior and you know that there's just something missing in your life, you know that there's a void that cannot be filled. And you're listening right now. You're listening to the story of Jamal. You're listening to the story of Phoebe. You're listening to the story of my friend that I met, my friends that I met today at Panera Bread that I haven't seen since high school. You're hearing this story and you're thinking to yourself, I have not made that decision. I am thinking about making that decision. But how does that work? Well, how that works is if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is your Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead, you'll be saved. So if you believe that right now and you're thinking, I want to be in a relationship with God, I want to accept Jesus as my savior and my leader. I want to have God transform my life into the life that he has created me to live. Man, now is your time. Right now is the day of your salvation. So if you want to make that decision, just repeat this prayer after me. Lord Jesus, forgive me of all my sins. Come into my heart. Take over my life. I receive you as my savior. Take all of me. I repent from my way of life. Not choose to live the life that you created me to live. I receive you and your free gift of salvation. And I thank you for saving my soul. I thank you for raising from the dead on the third day, coming back to life, proving that you are God, the one and only true living God. I thank you, Jesus, for saving my soul. Amen. "Of my favorite writers out. Is a guy named Dan Horowitz frequent guest of the show. A really good guy. Sorry, but I'm not distracted. I'm just looking at his piece right here because it's so good. I want to be sure we can squeeze the soil in. So it's not wasting any time. Dan Hart, you can follow him on Twitter, by the way. He is at RM at RM conservative at RM conservative check him out his work is fantastic. Dan, thanks for spending some time with us. We appreciate it. Hey, great to be with you a lot to go over. Yeah, a lot. So let's get to it because one of the frequent criticisms of the conservative movement. I even get it sometimes, too. Fair enough is, ah, you guys complain a lot, and I do. I like to think I am solutions oriented, but they say, what can we do about this stuff? What can we do? So you have this piece, I'm going to discuss in my podcast tomorrow at length. But in the next 15 minutes, we have with you. You have talker action. 7 actions Trump supporters should promote to stop politically targeted prosecutions. Give us your top three. Number one, what's the number one thing we can do to say, hey, listen, we live in a police state. We've had enough of it, red line in the sand right here. You know, our founders envisioned this nightmare scenario where the federal government would become more like king George that forced the revolution again. So what do you do? You work with the tools we already had, and that's the states. We have red states that are supposedly not supposed to be engaging in this. Do they have the backs of our people? Look, one thing's clear Trump obviously has a lot of money. But what I've dealt with the last two and a half years, whether it's business owners facing jail time for opening during COVID, whether it's 6 people who literally never laid a hand on anyone, help pretrial, they can not find attorneys, they're faced with an overwhelming systematic targeting. The important thing is for the state to send a message that we will create a legal defense fund for those that we believe prima facie are being targeted for their political religious or social belief. And look, it's pretty obvious when that's happening. When they hit you up on statutes and scenarios that are never done in the opposite directions, never done for liberals. It's never done at all. Then you have a pretty compelling case that yeah, no equal protection under the law and they need help. And I will tell you, it is shocking. You can get a child molester that he has no problem finding an attorney. You know, that's part of the legal profession. These political can not believe it. If you defend the child molester, you're like celebrated an illegal. You put aside your personal feelings. No, right? I mean, I've seen it. They're like, look at this guy, they defended the World Trade Center bomber. They were the guys really horrible, but this lawyer's got principles. Yet you defend the Republican, forget it. I mean, just ask any of Trump's lawyers. What happens? It's horrifying. Yep, this is like the legal equivalent of a doctor prescribing hydroxychloroquine. In other words, when you're going against the spirit of the age now, there is no rule of law. There's no legal norms. And that's what we're seeing. All legal norms are thrown out the window. So I think that one is really key to the states to make a statement and say, we will at least play defense. You know, scissors are not alone. They get legal representation. They have, and again, we know this is not just the legality, but also the political backing of a state government, because let's face it, this is all political. It doesn't go by the rule of law. It's the rule of political will. And then obviously, look, there was a lot of talk about extradition. And under the constitution, we have reciprocity that all things equal we want to continue flowing. But what happens if you get caught up in a blue city, a blue state and they're like, that we don't like you, we don't like who you are and we are going to take the unprecedented step of targeting you. So my point is, if you're living in a red state, we need the attorney general of that state to examine your case, and if they determine, again, that you are being targeted, not because of that statute, but clearly because of who you are, you know, you are singing hymns outside an abortion clinic. Under certain circumstances, we need to say no extradition. And look, governor desantis did that. He just said, I will be cooperating as you all know, Dan, when you don't cooperate, you know, NYPD can't just insert themselves in another state, for example. No. And grab someone. They don't have jurisdiction. The state has to cooperate the state of jurisdiction. Now, it doesn't help someone living there. But we do need to lay a marker down and say that if something is completely lawless, if you clearly did not do anything wrong, we will not extra that you. We're talking to Dan Horowitz, he's on Twitter at RM conservative. Is that for red meat conservative or something? Is that what you got that from, by the way? Yeah, that was before red pill. At RM conservative follow him. We're talking about his piece here. 7 actions. Trump supporters should promote to stop politically targeted prosecutions. Because like I said, I get that criticism. What can we do? You have one suggestion here I really like. It's kind of a version of what I've talked about often. It's my new rules theory. That if the Democrats are going to establish what they deem a new set of

"And I hope you enjoy your 15 minutes of shame. How could you not enjoy being shamed at every turn? For something you did for 15 minutes honest to God. You know, I'm so glad I don't do things that would shame me anymore. I did. I used to do lots of them. Now I don't. The problem is that all the people that knew that I was shameful back then still think that I am. They don't know that I'm no longer shameful. I have a completely reversed my way. And you have to go on a marketing campaign for yourself. I mean, I've completely stopped shoplifting. Okay, I did that one smash and grab out in LA. You saw the video. It was a random moment. I think it was under $946. Exactly. Okay. And I was very careful not to go over the $1000 limit. I don't want to get arrested. They don't arrest people under a 100,000. Ben kitchen? Hi. It's been a build kitchen. I mean, Bill Smith. Bill Smith. Bill Smith. Thank you. Hi, my name is Bill Smith. And I live right here. Mike Adams is my name and you know that debt and 6 bucks will get you a cup of Starbucks. By the way, if you heard that Starbucks, I'm not going to shame them, but they're unionizing. You know, in Buffalo, they unionized in Buffalo. That's not shameful thing. I mean, why not? They want to make more money. I understand that. But what's that going to do a cup of coffee prices? If they have a unionized labor force, all of a sudden at $6 cup of Starbucks becomes 12 bucks or 9, or you gonna pay it? After a while, they'll just have the barista and everything else will be robot. You know what? You know how you can really raise the pay for baristas? Make them barista nude. That would do it. Yeah. And then people will pay extra for that. Anyway, 15 minutes of shame, we shame people, and not just people, things. Who wants to go first? I got a, I got lots of stuff. Well, don't tease us, let it rip. Okay, the Cuomo, the Cuomo saga continues. Now it's not just the governor and his brother Chris Cuomo who are assholes. It's the Cuomo staffer who's been with him for ten years. Did you hear about this guy? No. His name is John Griffin, and he's from Stamford, Connecticut. "But she said this quote About someone she went to hell but did not return empty-handed. Have you ever heard that mary. I have not. And i feel like it because it shows this light after how there's live after well nc so this is so that the film the film is great and looks at at at it explores all these different facets of this cultural phenomenon that we're living through right now and raises a lot of questions about know how this can come into being and then kind of pose questions that maybe don't have the answers about what can be done about it. But i wanted to talk to you about it because you deal with individuals in your work as a forgiveness coach leading forgiveness workshops you deal with individuals who are sort of in the aftermath of going through something and maybe they made an error. Maybe they didn't make an air you know. Life is complicated. And we're complicated beings but When i think about when you're meeting with people and talking to them about why they might want to use forgiveness as a a tool and technique to heal. It is a way to get yourself to a place where you redeem a story and you may be have been held but you can get some wisdom out of it something you don't you come back. You're not empty handed and you have something to share with others from your experience. So i write. It was curious what you thought about that. Yes i like to say that. Return our wound into wisdom and the way the forgiveness work that i teach plays with this This journey out of shame is that people that are hot in shame just feeling bad about themselves all the time in turning towards addictions turning towards bad relationships and the lower of happiness Something happened to them if something happened to them. Along is not. what's wrong with you is what happened to you as the book says so so these people that come to me because they are tired of feeling bad about themselves and they want to have a life they want to have a life that they love and they want to move beyond their sorry history of all the bad choices and better relationships and things that happened because they were ashamed filled person. We can get to the bottom by seeing what happened to you. What happened to you growing up or along the way that you need to forgive other people for installing. Shame in you for throwing something on you that stuck because you were young vulnerable defenseless for people that that Physically or sexually abused you and installed a piece of shane. In the core of who you think you are and by forgiving those people casting out those old feelings in those old projections of them We start making room for our best self and start remembering who we really are. We really are core..

I mean it is like watching kind of car crash Unfold before your eyes. And i i mean i i you just. It's hard to even believe that somebody's life can be ruined within moments within a day within in what. Psychologically that does to them you know in terms of just their own wellbeing in their own feeling like they. They have a The that they have things to offer that they're they're they might. They might have made a mistake or they might not have made a mistake but that they are a person here in our culture that that has value and deserves to be treated with more respect than than what they've been treated with and how how interesting that monica lewinsky was the opener and closer boyce of this documentary. Because oh my gosh. I mean you only have to sit. Say her name and immediately in my mind comes up. You know that that she went through. It's amazing and it's It's pretty inspiring that. She's standing up in naming herself as patient one in the cancel culture. You know yeah i have. I mean i'm following her whole trajectory. I remember back in the late nineties when it happened and and really feeling a lot of discomfort around how she was she. She and other women in that whole Impeachment related scandal with bill clinton president bill clinton Happened and just feeling like i had. I just had this this feeling of like. This isn't right but i don't. I can't put words to it. And the fact that she's penna stayed with her story in work done it and worked on healing and worked on understanding and talk to people and educated herself and done a lot more therapy and healing She's in a really interesting place to lead this discussion and and kind of lead a path through and hopefully out of the assassinating were and in a way in a way It's it's good. Return into her off strang because she's already been through the worst thing. Yeah hopefully this get any worse than it was it already been through the worst thing and now she could stand there and kind let people think what they think about her. A meanwhile she standing there telling her truth and having compassion for herself for her youth for her confusion in the face of power for all of the different hearts of pieces of that. It's an in a way she's She's made herself What's the word. Shame proof into the future Yeah i was listening to well. I was listening to monica lewinsky on another interview. "Have a 15 minute phone call and have me help you with that decision from an unbiased perspective and so mark, I think and I know from experience. It could make a profound difference because that 15 minutes can help you get clarity around a discussion around us something that you're concerned with or give you some advice and again, It can only take 15 minutes. And so that's why we set that up for people that are listening to the show. So how many topics can you cover in a 15 minute time span? And how do you know enough about them to give them advice? I don't cover all those topics in the show. They call what they are concerned with, or they want more information. Just like we're talking about taxes earlier, So someone goes on, man. I got all my money in an IRA. A. I'm concerned taxes are going up. I want to call Matt and ask him a couple questions around my situation on taxes. Boom. There you go. Someone listening to the show that we did last week on so security decisions of Ah big decision coming up when to take it. What's the right strategy? How do I know they call and say, Hey, Matt, I'd like to talk about so security. We are so and we're gonna be making a decision. What do you think? So That's where What it's meant to do is to get them when they have. Ah, topic that they're concerned with, or one asked a question With there you go. They might call and say, Hey, you know, I feel stark of markets on it all to my my taking too much risk. It might be that my company is offered me. Early buyout on my pension, lump sum or income. What do you think It's just meant to give people the basically a phone call to talk to me to get advice on something that I can discuss with them? And so that's why we set it up Mark and that Z. You know, it's not about one. All those topics is about a topic that they're they're concerned with. So I'm supposed to even call and say, madam, really thinking about jumping into that game, Stop World D a M C world and jump in and then you say, Well, maybe you missed the boat on that. Well, mark to tell you the truth, I get a lot of calls on Bitcoin. You know, I get a lot of calls on gold. I'd love to get a lot of calls on. You know the devaluation of the dollar or, you know again, what happens And you know if the market crashes, 50% whatever it is on your mind set up that 15 minute call, and we can have a discussion around. But let me kind of give you you know some insight, you know, to kind of how this helps. So I get a lot of calls from people who have annuities. And they don't really understand what type of nudie they have. They bought it awhile go. Maybe they're person they got it from is not around. Whatever it may be that understand. If they have an income writer, they'd understand if they have a cost, And so, really, they have this product they go. What should I do? And I can just ask a couple questions and give them some advice. How to use that inside of there Planning, which is, you know, just to alleviate the concern or give them some clarity on it. Life insurance. I get a lot of calls cash value life insurance. People who follow something. You know whether it's become your banker this or that about cash value life insurance, and they only know it from one perspective. The person who sold the tombs perspective and so they've got it. I think a bias view of it, and so I can sit there and basically break it down and to say, what are we trying to accomplish? And you know, it's just that's how these calls go, Mark. So really is a 15 minute phone call that could make a big difference in your life by getting some clarity around a subject that topic of concern that you have when it comes to financial planning a retirement planning, and that's what it's meant to be. So where you can call very unbiased, very straightforward. And we talk about what you're concerned with. And again you go to the website. Sign.
