On the ground in Cuba. And, of course, our own congressman Jim McGovern, you know? Yeah, it doesn't get it. But what's going on in Miami Joining us now? Our national correspondent from Florida and Good friend Rory O Neill. Good morning, sir. Hey, Jim. Good morning. So before you get to that, uh, 64 degrees up here. Oh, that sounds nice. No, no, no, Roy, just because you're suffering down there right now, in the heat of summer if you came up here, my God. I'd have to call the north face and basically NASA and say, Get this man. Um, a spacesuit, please. Because he's gonna die. I'd love I'd love it all. Yeah. No. Sorry I am in the wrong climate, That's for sure. All right. So, um, Speaking of climate, the climate in Miami Um, always when when Cuba sneezes. Miami catches a cold, and that's what's going on. Yeah, and a lot of those politicians as well, who seemed to be, you know, just as responsive when the when the Cuban American community in South Florida jumps a lot of politicians say how high Uh, and you know, we are seeing a remarkable events unfolding in Cuba. With all these protesters taking to the streets that just Happen in Cuba. You do that You go to prison, and then we're not sure what happens to you after that, so it's remarkable to see these protests in the streets and they don't want to let go. The issue they are blocking on trying to pressure put as much pressure on the U. S government to do whatever they can. To try to finally get an end to this communist regime. Yeah, and, you know, unfortunately, we've got we've got those who for some reason side with the Communist regime. I don't get it our own. Uh Massachusetts own Congressman Jim McGovern, chair of the Rules committee in the House He's got he's got some I call it a fetish with Marxists from Central South America, the Caribbean. But anyway, that is the point. How does The White House react to this and this is a very important issue. For many people in Florida. I mean, you can say younger generations don't have as much of an affinity For their former homeland. You know, they may be a generation or two removed, but it's still very important at this point. Yeah, maybe three or four and it's still but it still moves the political needle. Oh, absolutely. But you know, that's the debate. That sort of underway is how much of this is old school. This is what we did to protest in the eighties versus You know how things are now, because, uh, you a third generation Cuban American. Is he going back to the island? Pretty unlikely at this point. Yeah, that's how things are changing as well. So so it isn't like it used to be. But to see this happen. These protests is remarkable. But the question is, what's next? How do you respond? We're the only outliers on here with the embargo, the UK, Canada France. Their relations with Cuba are pretty normal. Uh, you know Brits vacation in Havana. Canadians vacation in in Havana. Uh, you know, that's really what's also hurt These protests obviously the protesting their communist rule, but Covid has had such an impact on the island. Cases of climbing. There is no medicine. Health care is falling apart. And now the tourism industry, which was really the only industry outside of sugar is falling apart. Uh, has has no visitors. So that means you're not making that dollar to carrying the bag up the stairs or the three bucks extra. You got the tip because you're off licensed taxi business. That's the stuff. That's the economists going away that and they got rid of Remittances, so Cuban Americans, kids and money to Cuba anymore. So that's the money that's missing. That sort of kept the wheels greased. You know, just because the United States is the outlier. We're not doing business with them. I mean, if everybody else is doing business with them, this is the fault of the government in Cuba. I mean, if you as you said, and so many English, go to, um Cuba and vacation and love it. I mean, I'm expecting to see, uh Hyman Roth pop out from one of the hotels. You know what we have here is a partnership with the government that understands business, You know? No, but really what? Where's all that money going? And why hasn't the government properly use that money? And why is it all of a sudden the crisis Because you have a corrupt government, right? You have a corrupt government that again Covid hit it all very hard, And they have no more supporters. You know, the Soviet Union used to bail about Venezuela used to bail them out. Venezuela's just as bad shape as they are, and China doesn't like to write a check for no reason. Right there on something in return, right? So they'll do it for oil rights, or, you know, they want to drill for oil 20 miles off of how Havana which happens to be 60, Miles off key West, But that's not all right. Florida politicians, you know, screaming, but, yeah, so China is not right number blank check either. So their family because the system is failing. And so the thing is when you've got a McGovern saying, Well, we need to send them aid. What? To prop them back up again, You know, with all these human rights abuses,.

"Who rescued 12 boys and their teacher trapped in a cave to the Mountaineers who get lost in the snow. It doesn't get more New York than this. Len Burman and Michael Riedel in the morning on 7 10 w. O R. There happen to be a lot of big headlines The entertainment world. It's good timing. Larry Hackett back with us normally is at this time on Thursdays. He's the ABC Entertainment contributor. Obviously, Cosby is Mr America's dad, and he's and swift fashion gets out of jail and he's home and hey, Larry. Good morning. Do you think I'll ever try to entertain again? You see, he seems kind of out of it. He does. I mean, I don't think he well, he may try again. I don't think is going to be very effective, but I do think they were going to be a not insignificant number of people out there who are going to state decision yesterday means he's innocent. His PR person seized on that immediately when Cosby went home to suburban in suburban Philadelphia home, basically said that his proves the citizens As you have been discussing all morning. If there's nothing of the kind what improves that that the prosecutor who gave him immunity? Basically, the new prosecutor couldn't go back on that there was a deal and a deal is a deal. This has nothing to do with his guilt and whether or not um he did what he was accused of doing. However, as you said he was America's dad, and a lot of people are going to find this a reason to slide back to the idea. He was badly treated and that their youth and his place in their youth is now preserved. I think we've learned over the past several years that if you lie enough people will believe you, and I think that's going to happen in this case, no doubt about it now. Hollywood, Hiram back, there would be opportunities on streaming services. Absolutely not. There's no way that the hierarchy in Hollywood is going to welcome Bill Cosby back Absolutely not. Now, does this Larry give Harvey Weinstein any kind of hope for trying to get his convictions overturned? Well again? The specifics in this case would suggest not right in this particular case, Fruits. Castor, the old prosecutor basically told copy. We will not prosecutor he announced publicly We will not prosecute you that his idea to do this was still that coffee would feel free to testify. In the civil case that Andrea Cause stand foul. I don't wanna get into all of that Those circumstances do not exist in the Harvey Weinstein case. However, if you want to look at the Harvey Weinstein case and say, Okay, are there issues of due process that may have been violated in the zeal and in the, uh, fervor of me, too. That's something laurels will no doubt look at. I don't think the circumstances in the specifics have any kind of resemblance. The Cosby case, But you know, Michael that there are going to be attorneys looking at that and trying to figure out you know it was a bit of a hindsight. Is there anything that went wrong and illegal level that Weinstein can seize on? Another big name that came up in the entertainment world. James Franco, the actor $2 million settlement in a sexual misconduct shooting. His people say he's totally innocent. What's the deal on this one? Well, you raised a very interesting point. They're like, Yes, he had a class. It was alleged that in 2014. He had an acting class. He was obviously very famous. He has a great reputation among millennials and gen Z people. He's seen his very hit This acting class. It turns out, according to those who trouble accuse him was basically an excuse to get girls to take their clothes often closed in movies, and he and his friend who were doing this class Pressure these women the allegations say into appearing in this anyway. He has agreed to settle a class action suit brought on the people who were in the class for over $2 million. It also allows, however, for him to claim that he's innocent. And I think this goes weirdly to a connection to the Cosby case. Right, everybody if you settle for $2 Million, any reasonable person kind of thinks you did something wrong. Because of the niceties of the law, and because of India's and things like that. People are allowed to continue to say they didn't do anything wrong, and I think that's where some of this frustration comes from. Um and I think that's Again. It's unrelated directly to the Cosby case. But the place where law and logic and reality meet can sometimes be a very, very tricky spot. And I think that's the case in this Franco case. Anybody reasonable going to say you're not paying over $2 million Because you didn't do anything wrong. Uh, but his ability to say that Give people cover and major Hollywood cover friendly to hire him again. Well, here's the thing. I mean, do you think the whole hashtag me too era is running out of steam? I think it's running out of steam. I think it's going to come to a different kind of, uh, position. Look, I think it's impossible to maintain and sustain that level of rigor and passion in any kind of movement, right. I think what's going to happen is that they're gonna be changing changes in attitude changed his law changes in structure in Hollywood and these things will become based into the system. There will be guys who A Or maybe miss accused. There will be guys get off scot free who should be accused. I think going forward. What's going to happen? Is the orientation going to be less about looking backwards as to what happened in the past. How to look forward to make sure it doesn't happen in the future that I think is inevitable, and that's where this is going. Now another big headlines story you followed very closely. Britney Spears requesting to be removed from the conservative ship of her father and a judge just denied her. That request. Are you surprised? I am a bit surprised. I'm a little more surprised, Quite frankly, that more than a week after her testimony, her lawyer has still not files a formal request to end the conservatorship. That's where this case gets very, very tricky. You know, the things that we know about this case. Kind of akin to those, you know, cave paintings in France, where you see the tail of the goat or the butt of the elephant and you don't see the entire picture. You know, her speech last week was very impassioned and any person hearing I would say, Oh, my God, This is a horrible situation happen to go on..

And we're with Jeannie Mansell and you probably been listening. She Her middle son became addicted to opioids and eventually heroin through prescriptions that were given to him. Ah post surgical pain, so Jeannie. So so, you discoveries on heroin? Um he's lost interest in things that he used to be interested in. And, uh And you take him to a 30 Day Recovery program. What happened there? Aziz, a 30 Day recovery program. They put him on Suboxone. That was my first initial production. Oh, my goodness. Yes, until our viewers What's the box on is telling viewers what that is. It dragged. It takes away the craving because what the the addict obviously We're talking about relapse. Justin relapse probably tend the 14 times and this during this period where he tried to get off drugs and couldn't and would go through withdraw. And so we get back on because the cravings were so strong and so trying to get off drugs. He has nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, sweating, yawning fever. All of that, and we got into the 30 Day. Got him there alive, and they gave you the box on. That was my first introduction to Suboxone. And of course, at that point, I'm like it. It takes away the cravings. I didn't understand anything at that point. It's a mom. Nobody gives you any training about this stuff. No, I didn't. No, I didn't know anything about taking that I was to go away 30 days. They're in that at the time I found out he was a miracle that he was not dead yet, And, uh, that point there When he got out we was shipped into his grandmother's on this the box on treatment program and regiment and tried to put him in a day treatment program. And all of this stuff is we go the treatment route. And that when hey did relapse and started and certainly addicted to Sebastian and started stealing from his grandmother, and at that point, we were pretty sure he was going down a road to death and we as a family. Uh, supported his grandmother and filing charges of theft against him for just $3000 and so at the age of 28 years old, my son was arrested for the first time and put in jail to remain in jail for a nine month period Safety which was an imprisoned drug treatment program. We thought we would scare him straight. Get off of heroin by putting him in prison and I was the one that took him and cried at the jail walls if I had never imagined in a million years. That must done would be going to prison. I remember the cross was so So loud and graphic and Elmos the pain of childbirth in the grief process that I was turning my child over to the criminal justice system to try to get him sober so that he would not die. And that you know, at that point it was all about relapse. And I thought getting him into the prison system would cause him to stay sober and not relax. Visited. Once they relapse. You're on another road. You're on the road of relaxed. Yes. Oh, relapse is horrible. And most people on opioids relapse. Yes, 10 times even more. I mean, we're treating a patient right now. It's ST Joseph. That has relaxed 28 times, and it's finally into our program. And so we're hoping we're hoping that we can actually stop this. Terrible, terrible chain of relapses for this particular patient Who's with us right now at Saint Joseph Medical Center? Yeah, you know, And that's why I'm reading when I became involved with Matthew's Hope Foundation and understood what you're doing with aces and all of the The care model that you're doing. My son never had that opportunity. And I believe with all of my heart that if he did, we would not have had to take the path that we put him on. We put him in jail. Obviously. He went twice. You got back out the relapse. He didn't get scared straight. He relapses and went right back and broke his probation. And then, once again, he got out. My daughter wrote to a TV stuff show called a Eneas intervention. And in February, 2015 a team of media I Aeneas intervention selected Justin to be on that show and followed him around and all of his dark corners and alleys of his life of the addiction that had now taken over his lots of heroin. And published in front of the worldwide TV show of All of our, You know, you know any skeleton you had in a closet? You're just like, so anything just saved my child and Justin did choose treatment at the point. Because we couldn't afford a 90 day 180 day treatment. We could not afford that, but they gave us it's Justin chose treatment. They gave you $90,000 worth, which is 90 days and for Justin. They gave him 180 days because he was so Are into his addiction that they knew he needed actually, six months impatient to try to kick that, And at the end of six months, he got out. He was a model resident in the impatient unit, and he got out and relapse. Another four times, Larry No. Does. Did everybody hear that? So he was in a 180 day? Here in patient program. That's right, and he was a model student in that program, and he gets out and he relapses again. So you see California on the streets because that's where the program was. Yeah. Where I can't reach him or help him or finding addiction Doctor and he's living out of a parking lot in his car, and, uh, I get calls from him. Just knew that that at that point, you know the grace of God would be the only thing to save him. But I was still trying to get ahold of addiction. Doctors detox units that if I could get into a detox, I was not going to give up on my son. I just Could not give up on him and he got to detox unit. Pipes already got out. Three days later, he relapse again and went back to that same detox unit. They called me. I thought there was something wrong with my bill, And they said No. We have your son here again. I was just like okay. You know he's going to die. But that second time Larry he got the date auction that he chose. He chose to turn his life around. So so? So, after all this mess it, Jeannie. How many Detox and recovery programs. 30 Days 60 days, Henry, How many programs that he had 10 before he finally himself chose to stay sober. How money wasn't Yeah, well, there's the 30 days and there was 180 Day and then hey, also was taken into sober living facility. He relaxed from there. There were two of those, and there was to dig taxes and You got it. He got sober on April. The 11th. And he's been sober five years, April 11th this year My son is sober. He has a lovely wife, a three year old daughter. He's expecting a baby, and he works. To help Parents put their teams into inpatient mental health and substance abuse treatment centers, eyes what he does for a living now is five years sober with a family and he is now helping others. Who who were just like him, Uh, 55 or more years ago. And so the point I want everyone to.

"And I on it just might be that Jake was in the trainer's room and he didn't see him. I don't know I wouldn't I wouldn't be concerned with that. I wouldn't be concerned about this. At this point. I don't think he doesn't look when he came off the field like he was. You know, in great pain. Um, you know, I don't know if you tweak something or not. If you remember back to Ah, 2018 during spring training here. He had some time off because the birth of his daughter at that time, and then he Also no twisters back a cz well that year, and I'm pretty sure he ended up pitching the second game of the season. He didn't He was supposed to be the opening day starter. Syndergaard started, but I'm pretty sure that Jake pitch game number two. He got himself ready in time. They just you know, they pushed him back a little bit, and that's it. That's what happened here. You know if he doesn't start up any day, maybe he's in the 1st 5 It doesn't really matter where 12 boys in there that would be my read on it at this point until We gotta work tomorrow. Yeah. Were knocking out What for that Ed Coleman is joining us tow update us on Jacob to Graham. You know, before we get to like, you know, the ripple effect that Graham injury could have on this team, Eddie, the How much more was deGrom's like? How much work was he expecting? Do you think Teo get in in the next nine days like Was he going to pitch another inter squad or SIM game? I didn't know if he was gonna pitch against the Yankees this weekend or not. We never found that out. Maggie Thie. He was God. I knew it was going to pitch yesterday because that was the 14th and that keeps him in line for the 24th 14 19 24th of the 19th Sunday against the Yankees. I'm not sure what the mess we're going to do, whether they were going to pit him against the Yankees or whether they were going to have him pitch a SIM game. What he was going to do basically is get Teo. I think it was 55 to 60 pitches yesterday and then 75 to 80 or 85 or so you know, on the 19th or you know, whenever he was going to be slighted pitch for Ah, ah for the opener, so that that was the That was where he was going toe know, settle in and then he be good for probably 100 if they needed him for 100 you know, opening day, but I will say that that they changed. We'll certainly I mean, get the results of the Marie I You know when they're dealing with and obviously everyone is day to day, Ed. What would they do say if say if he's not ready for the start of the year, Eddie What would they do in replacing him? Maybe for one turn through that rotation. Or, you know, say, Well, we ask that as well. We didn't really get any answer. Think Louise mentioned just about every other picture they have on the staff of this void. Rosboch Ramirez story all swelled. You didn't mention Peterson. I would think you know what honestly has pretty good in camp just in the Times. I've seen him and I think they expect him to kind of take a step forward has been a guy that's been on the customer obviously hasn't delivered really. On the major league level, but You know they They worked him out of the pen a little bit last year, and I think they they liked what they saw him. He's I guess he would be a candidate. Obviously, another one is is I know that arouse more. Ramirez has been kind of a journeyman pitcher, but Hey, pitch very well. And there are a lot of a lot of the coaches I talked to in the first spring training who liked them an awful lot simply because he's he's one of these guys is very versatile. You know, on a moment's notice, he can go out there and give, you know, five innings whatever and not even blink so Gillis or a couple of names there. You do have David Peterson, but I think they want to kind of pulls him back a little bit. That that would be my guests. At this point right now they have to fill in with somebody you could walk. Her locket is another guy who was a veteran guy on DH. He's he's mate starts for them before, so you have to put him in there as well. But they haven't been to specific. Let's put it that way. Dad. How much do you think they'd like to avoid a bullpen game and we'll talk about it with the Yankees. We talked about the raise other teams, but you know, the Mets really pull something like that off it, You know, I think they'd like to avoid it. Hey, was, Lewis was asked was probably the only really definitive answer that he gave Louis asked if you would Toy with an opener. You know, using opener and he said No, Not really. We have what? We had six guys now we have five and hopefully they still have five. Just him. Alright. Come back. Ah, but and they have some other pictures in arrears to site. I don't think they would go that way. I think they might pick you back some people. Maggio may have somebody go out there for No say four innings and then have another guy out for for things. You could do that, And that's the closest thing I think it gets like a bullpen game..
