A Heart for the Hurting

"Pray the word with David Platt is a resource from radical .NET. Mark chapter three verse 5, and he looked around at them with anger, grieved at their hardness of heart and said to the man, stretch out your hand, he stretched it out, and his hand was restored. There's so much here in this short story at the beginning of Mark. Chapter three as Jesus enters a synagogue and a man is there with a withered hand and religious leaders are watching Jesus to see if he will heal this man's hand on the Sabbath so that they might accuse him and so Jesus says this man with the weather hand come over here and Jesus looks at the leaders and says, is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do harm to save life or to kill and they were completely quiet and that's when we read this verse verse 5 he looked around at them with anger, grieved at their hardness of heart. Think about what hardness of heart is here in this story, it's a combination really of many things, but if we were to summarize it, some of them may not believe Jesus able to heal this man, but it seems like they do and they're kind of waiting for him to do it. And in that sense, they don't believe Jesus should heal this man. In other words, they don't want. Healing people on the Sabbath and I just want to encourage us today to think about our hearts. What do we believe Jesus has power to do? And what do we want? Jesus to do. What are we longing for Jesus to do in people's lives and people who are hurting in people who are in need of healing. So God we pray that you would give us soft hearts today. Soft hearts that believe you have all power in all the universe and you are able to heal, you are able to restore you are able to help in any and every way others need. So we pray for soft hearts, the belief in your power and the desire to see your power shown on behalf of people in need around us. God, we know that all throughout today, tomorrow we will be surrounded by people who were hurting in different ways, some in ways that are obvious in some in ways that are not obvious at all. God we pray for your compassion for people and for hearts that desire to see your compassion known in people's lives in such a way that we are praying for them with faith and we are looking for opportunities to be your hands and feet to be a picture of your love and your provision in people's lives. God we pray this today on behalf of people who are hurting right around us and far from us, God we pray for the shod gope yadav people of Bangladesh over a 100,000 of them know known followers of Jesus among them. Jesus, you alone, have power to save them and we long for. We want your Salvation known among the people among the SHAD gope, yadav, people, of Bangladesh. Please hear our prayers right now for them. Cause your grace love in the gospel to be made known among them. Please send laborers to spread the gospel to them, God repay that you would help God repre that we would have soft hearts today that believe in your power and reflect your love and your compassion and your longing to see your power made known in people's lives specifically people who are hurting around us in Jesus name we pray according to Mark chapter three verse 5, amen.

How We Can Get Back to American Leadership and Power

"Your testimony to your Christian faith throughout never given inch is pervasive and persuasive and I encourage people to read it. I want to go though to the opposite of good Christian faith. There's only one guy in the world who's dealt with Putin Xi and Kim as much as president Trump and that's you. You've actually dealt more with Putin gian Kim more than Biden has dealt with him. And so on the scale of despicable, who's more despicable, Jeep Putin or Jaime or Kim. Oh, goodness. Dear splitting hairs now, you. All pretty bad. I don't think about them from personality characteristics other than to try and figure out what my avoid tripping, the trigger when we didn't want to and to trip it when we did. We always focused on what are their capabilities. What's the risk? How do we solve for that? And what risk are we prepared to take to make sure we get deterrence established and keep America safe? A different characters all with very different backgrounds. But they share some common characteristics. Each of them understands that the one nation that is indispensable to take down to achieve their ultimate objectives is the United States of America. And second, they understand American leadership and strength. And when they don't see it, when they see the inverse of that, weakness fecklessness and attention, the absence of focus, the inability to actually lead coalitions across the world in ways that matter when they see that. They're going to, they're going to make advances. We saw it with Putin in Ukraine. We've seen it with Xi Jinping as it continues to move about Africa and South America. We see it with chairman Kim today. He's launching missiles at a rate that is absolutely historic. It exceeds even what he did under president Obama. American leadership can resolve many of these things. We can make America more secure and each of those leaders, including hominy, who we didn't speak to. Each of those leaders understands American power. And we demonstrated our willingness to use it in a way that didn't put 60 80, a 100,000 American lives at risk. This is the best of American foreign policy.

Binance Announces New Transaction Limit By Fiat Partner What Could This Mean For BNB

"10 p.m. Sunday January 22nd, 2023. By its announces nutrient limited by Fiat partner, what could this mean for B and B? According to a report by Bloomberg, crypto exchanged violence has announced that one of its Fiat trading partners signature bank will no longer be processing transactions of less than 100,000 as the bank attempts to reduce its exposure to the cryptocurrency market. Biden said this is a broad action affecting all crypto exchanges dealing with signature bank. And that efforts are underway to find an alternative solution immediately for members of its user community whose accounts are serviced by this bank. One of our Fiat banking partners, signature bank, has advised that it will no longer support any of its crypto exchange customers with buying and selling amounts of less than 100,000 U.S. dollars as of February 1st, 2023. This is the case for all of their crypto exchange clients. As a result, some individual users may not be able to use swift bank transfers to buy or sell crypto with free USD for amounts less than 100,000 U.S. dollars, the statement sent by violence to Bloomberg news on Saturday, Sid. Signature bank is one of the biggest Fiat banking partners in the crypto industry in collaboration with many industrial giants, including binance, kraken, coinbase, circle, and the now bankrupt FTX exchange. Following the heavy losses in the crypto market in 2022, signature bank lost about 64 of its shares after paying out 8.1 billion worth of digital assets and service of withdrawal orders during the last quarter of the year. To avoid similar losses in the future, signature bank has begun a massive withdrawal process from the cryptocurrency industry. To this effect, the New York based bank even plans on voluntarily reducing its crypto deposits by 8 billion to 10 billion. Bruce Thompson: Georgia Is the #1 Place in the Country to Do Business

"Is the number one place in the country to do business. We're 9 years in a row. I mean, it is roaring our economy. But we have to be very careful about that. Because here's what's happening. In a lot of areas of the state, big companies are coming in and we're grateful they're coming. So I don't want any of our listeners to think, I'm not great for that. But hear me for a second. Our state was built on the backs of the people that were here that were mom and pop businesses that grew to be maybe just remember Chick-fil-A started with one little restaurant. Yep, gorf house. That's right. And there are a lot of those businesses out there that are 300 people or less. And when large companies come in that are driven by stockholders, they're requirement is get the people to work. And if they can't get it organically, they're going to start cherry picking or hiring away the team members of those companies. And we're already seeing that, you can afford in your budget to be able to pay, say, 60 grand a year, and they come in and they offer them an 80 and 90 and a 100,000 and you can't blame them for leaving. And those companies will wind up perishing. And now you have a whole nother displacement of a workforce.

Julie Kelly: FBI Increases Reward for Info on 'Mystery Jan. 6 Bomber'

"You know it's really shocking I mean in light of everything happened we had to happen with the multiple Twitter files drops What we now know it's not open for debate anymore That the FBI DHS DNI and other members of the IC intelligence community were actively working through Elvis Chan of the FBI and others to openly coordinate with various social media companies not just Twitter to violate the First Amendment and censor content You'd think the FBI would be doing kind of a retrenching doing a hot wash and saying wow how do we screw this up And how do we get out of the political stuff and move back to shoe leather investigations and rebuilding the American people's confidence This is the way you do it Let's do a clearly clearly partisan investigation into grandma for an alleged trespass on the capitol at a political rally that we're now talking about years every years ago I mean it's obscene but I only got limited Tommy I want to ask you another question I'm sorry I mean the filibuster There's been an update on the bomber case What is the FBI up to They just came out with a statement They're increasing the reward to $500,000 for the alleged bomber who supposedly left bombs at the RNC and DNC on the evening of January 5th into January 6th What do you think's going on there Well I think that the FBI recognizes that this is such a gaping hole in the alleged investigation and a source of mockery on our side that here we are two years later and they can use geo fence warrants to track down an India to grandma who took a selfie inside the building in 6 but you can't find the bomber So in a little bit of I think a spin they increase the reward from a 100,000 to 500,000 for anyone who could give information about this mystery pipe bomber

"My experience in the last few weeks and I was on a couple of the calls, the Twitter spaces with Elon Musk that were most revealing. If you haven't heard the audio, you can hear them on my social media feeds. He was on for more than two hours with one group of more than a 100,000 people, and I got to ask him a question exactly about smoking guns. But I'm on this Twitter space with thousands and thousands of people, mostly from the crypto sphere. I was invited to the first one and they're connected to Elon. And the thing that shocks me is even the host, who's a well-known entrepreneur in the crypto space. It became apparent in the latest discussion yesterday on Monday as drop number 7 is being revealed. He doesn't even know who Peter stroke is. So how is it that there are people like you who've written volumes on this? One of your books was turned into this amazing film, but our friend Amanda milius, who was in studio last week, the plot against the president. How is it that there are volumes of material by you, John Solomon, Dan bongino, Greg Jarrett, and then apparently millions of people who aren't plumbers or truck drivers, you've got better things to do, but who are in the information space who are in IT in high-tech, and they seem to know nothing about what transpired in the last 6 years. Are you shocked at that? No, I'm not surprised because I'm between social media and the prestige press. They did an excellent job of shutting the wider public off from understanding what happened with Russia gate. And now we're going to see the same thing happen with, I don't know what we're going to call it. But whatever the Twitter files is describing, I mean, I happen to think in many ways, it's much larger because it represents a whole of society censorship industry. But yeah, the press and social media has done a fantastic job of keeping this information away from the broader public. And of course, this is what the Twitter files are describing. A sensorship regime to block information from reaching people.

'Atheism Kills' With Barak Lurie

"Today I have a new friend of mine, but this is a guy that I have heard his name a 100,000 times because he has been a long time supporter of Dennis and a longtime advertiser. He has his own show now and he has written a book series called atheism kills and I like on his website the banner title is a world without God is a world of chaos. So let's welcome attorney author talk show host, Barack lurie. Bryce, thanks so much for having me. What an honor it is to be part of this, I really do so enjoy talking about this. Yeah, yeah, no, thank you for coming on. I know you're busy guy, got a lot of irons in the fire, and the first time I met you, we were in a park. And our mutual friend, Michael, hooked me up with you and introduced me to you guys were having a rally there in the park, and we had our team had volunteered to give some additional protection to Dennis prager, who is a mutual friend of ours. And got to meet ya and put a face with the name after hearing you on all of your advertisements for decades really now at this point, right? Right. I think in the second decade, that's correct. We're probably about 15 years together. So that's true. Yeah. I can't believe it's been that long. It's so interesting. It's funny that you mentioned that park visit and the speech and so on like that. That was a pro Israel. Speech and there are many speakers and I arranged for Dennis to speak there as well. And I was the one who introduced him, and I get my own speech ahead of time. And it was really funny because my kids were coming and they wanted to see it. They heard about it and they wanted to hear it. So my kids knew that somehow I was important because when my name came up to start speaking, he noticed my older son noticed that the crowd became quiet.

Bitcoin Miner Core Scientific Files for Bankruptcy

"We're gonna toss it to will with some bankruptcy. Oh, sorry, Wendy, with some bankruptcy news. Wendy, who is at this time who's filing for bankruptcy protection? How dare you, sir? I thought winter solstice was yesterday. Anyways, I'm actually kind of not excited about this story, but excited about it because we're finally getting closer to Bitcoin, minor capitulation, which means the bottom is going to start showing itself. I'm a big believer of $10,000 Bitcoin, but not financial. Anyways, core scientific files for bankruptcy at southern district of Texas bankruptcy court. They are one of the largest Bitcoin miners by computing power and operating over a 143,000 mining rigs and host another a 100,000. They currently have approximately 1000 to 5000 creditors, yikes. The company's stock is down 98% this year. Estimated liabilities are between 1 billion to 10 billion, according to the filing, but I believe as we discussed that yesterday when you file for bankruptcy, that's like the only checkbox you can click or select, I guess, which is kind of ridiculous. Anyway, so they apparently they reached a deal with some of their lenders to restructure the debt in a prepackaged bankruptcy. I'm not sure if that would be a chapter 11 or not. Not illegal adviser. I actually wanna toss this over to Jen because she put her hand up and I want to, yeah, I want to hear Jen's take on it. Yeah, so chapter 11 allows the company to keep operating while trying to restructure the debt. And so this morning I went and just did a quick Google of some notable companies that have gone through chapter 11 and are still surviving. GM marvel and converse have all gone through chapter 11 bankruptcy. So maybe there is some hope at the end of the tunnel here for core. So I mean, I'm going to kick it off to will to get the ins and outs of this, but they're going to continue operating. They say they are still cash flow positive and they're just going to be restructuring to try and figure out how they're going to pay back some of these debts.

Like, let's say all of a sudden, you know, you have a fence on your property and your neighbor comes over and says, no, no, no, that fence is on my property. And he's going to go back and forth and fight for that because that's what he believes. It's the same thing with Russia. I'm not giving them any credit or anything. And no credence to Russia whatsoever because I think there are a bunch of thugs. But most of the Russian troops and even talking to the Ukrainian troops on the front lines, they were like, most of these Russian guys don't want to fight. They're like, hey, you know, they surrender when they're found. One of the top search engines in Russia was how to shoot yourself in the leg or in the foot or something like that. They didn't want to be drafted for this. So they've endured a 100,000 plus casualties at this point, and that's what we know of. However, it goes to show how antiquated and how I'd say un mature. They are using stuff from the Cold War. And a lot of it's not going off. Crypto Firm BlockFi Files for Bankruptcy As FTX Fallout Spreads

"At the top of the aftershock this week, we've got a lot of big stories, but none bigger than the fact that BlockFi has officially filed for bankruptcy. Now, this is just the latest in the crypto contagion effect. They've basically announced in their bankruptcy filing that they owe $1.3 billion to their 50 largest creditors and they have over a 100,000 total creditors. That's kind of wild to think about the jump, but let's dive a little bit deeper, shall we? They also owe $30 million to the United States SEC and are suing FTX for $680 million in damages as of right now. Now, this of course is a company that FTX had substantial investment in. It is one of the companies that's going to be most affected by the FTX fallout. Richard, what do you think of all of this development that we've had over the block 5 story in the last week? It's a company that again previously we had on the show and previously I personally had a lot of faith in. And how they got to this point where they got overleveraged, unfortunately. And really weren't taking care of the funds that they got in. Necessarily fully disclosed to people as they were first getting into the space of what were to happen to their funds if they ever were to go bankrupt. I know we got into it once coinbase formally announced that, hey, this is what happens when this happens, and then we came on the show and explained, hey, get up with BlockFi

"100,000" Discussed on Kottke Ride Home

"World Economic Forum and UNICEF are calling for an end to what they are now calling, syringe nationalism. But a new invention might be able to help. A team from Emory university and the Georgia institute of technology have developed something called the E patch, which uses electricity to inject certain vaccines, making injections less painful, more efficient and much cheaper. They've developed it specifically for vaccines that use genetic material as DNA and mRNA vaccines do, as opposed to more traditional ones that use a piece of the pathogen. mRNA vaccines themselves are less expensive to manufacture, but as we all remember from the stories about the colt Jane, they require a lot of special handling that can make them inaccessible in some parts of the world, and making them more accessible was exactly the goal of the developers of the E patch, quoting scientific American. For any vaccine to work, it has to get inside a person's cells, and the genetic material in mRNA and DNA vaccines needs a little extra help in crossing cell membranes. In the case of mRNA vaccines, including the ones currently being used against COVID-19, the mRNA is coded in a wee glob of fat called a lipid nanoparticle. These particles help the genetic material slip into cells, while also stabilizing the easily degraded molecules, but they also need to be kept frozen prior to injection, which means the whole vaccine requires storage at extremely low temperatures. DNA vaccines can go without freezing because they do not require lipid nanoparticles. They are more stable than mRNA even without the added fat and to break into cells, they instead use a vector virus, a modified virus different from the one being targeted. But these vaccines have their own drawbacks ongoing safety concerns about this mode of delivery and the fact that DNA vaccines tend to generate less of an immune response. One way to improve prospects for genetic material vaccines might be through electroporation, injecting the vaccine while delivering a very mild electrical shock, which prompts cells to temporarily open holes in their membranes and let the vaccine in. In theory, applying electroporation alongside genetic material vaccines could improve both effectiveness and accessibility for mRNA vaccines, genetic material might be able to enter cells without lipid nanoparticles. This means the vaccines could possibly be stored at room temperature for DNA vaccines, which are already stable at higher temperatures, researchers have higher hopes. They think electroporation would help generate a stronger immune response and perhaps make DNA vaccines more widely adopted. The electroporation method has been successfully demonstrated to increase DNA vaccine delivery and potency, but they've typically been expensive and bulky machines. The innovation of this new group whose work was published earlier this month in the journal proceedings of the national Academy of Sciences is in part creating it with easily available parts that in total, cost just a dollar. The E patch uses a barbecue lighter piso electric crystal with microneedles attached to the tip. And in early tests with DNA vaccines in mice, they found it was comparable to traditional electro operators. That said it's still all very early days. The E patch still needs to be tested with mRNA vaccines and larger animals and hopefully one day humans. But sad Bama of the Georgia institute of technology, who is a co developer of the E patch, told scientific American that he views this as part of a larger frugal science ethos, saying, quote, I want people to think if this guy can look at a barbecue lighter and think of a DNA vaccine delivery device, then what can I do? Some of you who celebrate Christmas may be waiting until after Thanksgiving to decorate. If you decorate it all or perhaps until the 1st of December, or even later, I like to wait at least until after Thanksgiving and usually decorate on the first Sunday of advent. But if you want to decorate even earlier and are scared of critiques from friends or family, you can tell them that the science backs you up. At least lightly. It turns out that decorating for holidays and even decorating a bit early is really good for our mental health, which does kind of make sense based on the huge uptick we saw in people decorating for all different holidays during the first year of the pandemic. So first, decorating for the holidays, regardless of how early you do it, has been shown to make you appear more friendly to neighbors. This actually goes all the way back to a 1989 study in the journal of environmental psychology that had participants rate the sociability and openness they perceived of anonymous houses just based on their exteriors with the results that they overwhelmingly said houses with Christmas decorations seemed to have more sociable residents. But more recent studies have pointed to additional benefits, namely, nostalgia, comfort, distraction, and anticipation on nostalgia, according lifehacker, psychoanalyst and mindset coach Steve mccown furthered this idea when he told unilad in a world of stress and anxiety, people like to associate things that make them happy and Christmas decorations evoke those strong feelings of the childhood. Decorations are simply an anchor or pathway to those old childhood, magical emotions of excitement. And psychologist Deborah serani has talked about the dopamine spike we get from Christmas decorations. She says it could be related to chromotherapy or color therapy, an alternative therapy based on the idea that bright lights and colors can increase our energy levels and boost happiness. Take it with a grain of salt, scientifically, but hey, bright, shimmering lights and shiny, tinsel, definitely makes me smile, Christmas or not. Now, those are both effects that are relevant regardless of how early you decorate, although you could argue that the earlier you do, the more boost you might get in those happiness and comforting nostalgia feelings. But the longer lead time that you have, the better it might be if you're having a rough go of things this season and you know, like there's still a pandemic on. So who isn't? Psychologist Kelly sobchak wrote in Texas a and M health last year, quote, the holidays for many is a special time of year filled with hope, joy and excitement, all of which have been lacking in 2020. Decorating early May allow people to distract themselves from current stressors and focus on holiday memories and traditions. Distraction has been shown to reduce distress and anxiety as compared to rumination. For many, decorating may simply be a nice change in surroundings as lights and tinsel can brighten up their home. And she also brings up that final piece anticipation. This was a big one I talked about in the early days of this podcast as something that we were all suddenly lacking. When the pandemic first ripped through our lives all of our plans were canceled, we were suddenly left without anything to look forward to. And that's not great for mental health. Quoting sobchak again, neural imaging reveals the activation of the reward system of the brain and an increase of dopamine when there's an anticipation of a reward, looking forward to happier times and surrounding oneself with decoration and reminders of a brighter future can increase anticipation and feelings of happiness. And Christmas is absolutely a season of anticipation. That's the whole point of celebrations like advent, preparing for and counting down to Christmas. So if you need something to look forward to, starting the Christmas countdown a little early isn't a bad idea. And as a bonus, you'll get some of those dopamine spikes from the physical transformation of your space and maybe some comforting reminders of the good parts of growing up. Now the real question is, when do you take your Christmas decorations down? Personally, I'm a traditionalist and like leaving my decorations up until epiphany day on January 6th, AKA the real 12th day of Christmas. I don't like leaving them up a day later than that, but with all these benefits and knowing how dismal January has the potential to be. Maybe I'll at least leave up a few sprigs of evergreen throughout January. So Adele's latest album 30 came out last week. I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet, but I downloaded it on Spotify so I can listen while I'm traveling this week. But in addition to dropping what will likely become one of the most decorated albums of the coming year, Adele also got Spotify to make a platform wide change. The removal of the default shuffle button for albums. So Spotify users may know that when you select an album or playlist and hit the big green play button at the top, it automatically shuffles that album or playlist. I actually forgot that this was a feature because especially for albums, I always just automatically hit the first track instead of that big button because why would I want to shuffle in album? I mean, I get why you might for some, but like mostly if I am actually listening to an album in this day and age, I want the album experience as it was intended, and Adele feels the same way. She tweeted on Saturday, quote, we don't create albums with so much care and thought into our track listing for no reason. Our art tells a story, and our stories should be listened to as we intended. In response, Spotify tweeted anything for you, and then made the change. Now, the automatic shuffle feature on the big play button is supposed to have just been removed for albums, but it's not showing up for me on playlists either. And to be clear, despite what a lot of headlines and even full articles are reporting, you can still shuffle albums and playlists by clicking the shuffle button on the normal navigation bar where the skip and loop and play pause buttons are. It's just the automatic shuffle that was attached to that big green play button that's gone. Still, the move definitely shows the power Adele has in the industry. And while her tweet said this was her only request in our ever changing industry, I wouldn't mind seeing her put her strength behind other changes that could have significant positive impacts on artists. You know, maybe talk to Spotify about better compensation for artists, especially smaller and independent ones. You know, just one retweet for the union of musicians, justice it Spotify campaign, just to see what happens. But until then, that is it from me for today, as always, this show was produced by ride home media and kaki dot org. I am Jackson bird and I will talk to you again tomorrow..

"Okay. We're gonna do it and we're gonna charge four hundred dollars each way to fight between manhattan in boston. Which is way more expensive than i would ever want pay but they also have some interesting discounts. Commuter ticket books you can buy twenty tickets up front and get a discount and those other people. I guess which is interesting but this is very much targeted at the business person who does not have their own helicopter but needs to get between boston in manhattan could not spare a moment. I'm sure that they've done the math. And they think that there are enough of those people. These days i mean two years ago said sure. Okay that makes sense these days. I don't know that many people that they're going to spring free eight hundred dollar round trip. Maybe i'll probably stick amtrak in pay fifty two hours each way there. You go so last bit of news. Is that korean air. At the behest of the the south korean government korean air has been tasked with deciding or investigating whether or not the virgin orbit model is a good one that is to say using them for seven to launch rockets. So essentially attach pay large rocket to the wing of zim. Seven flight up to thirty five forty thousand feet rocket drops off rocketing gauges rocket goes into space so the government south korean government has said. Hey is this a good idea and careers. Going gonna figure it out. I say this to say. I really hope that a this isn't just a a paper study and that they do this thing because i would love to see more seven. Four seven flying around with rockets attached to their links to they task korean air on figuring out. If this is something is feasible. Look is i don't feel like korean. Air is i. Don't feel like any commercial. Passenger airlines should be figuring that out. I don't think they're going t- us passengers them but like i said i don't think they're going to be using some was with passengers on it. I don't think it's going to be like soul to los angeles and by the way we're gonna circle third theon rocket go but i mean it. Did they test the airline to do the study to figure out if this is something you can do with. Its seven four seconds. It's no longer using the i know. Yes yes it's a you have some for sevens. We would like to use a few of them to test this out. Let's see if it's feasible. And you have the engineering prowess in order to do this so please help us understand whether or not this is something. That is both possible ahead wise. We know it's possible. Is it wise. Is it something that we should be doing. Okay well seven four. Seven is a versatile aircraft. I'm sure they could figure something out in the us. Military strapped giant laser to the nose of what blow up missiles. Yeah anything is possible that and what is now. What is it now orbital. At k which before was was racy. I forget which defense contractor was but the l. ten eleven that has the market. So i mean this is nothing new. It's just i guess bigger and possibly better it'll be interesting to see. Yeah so nothing in the near term. But something to keep an eye on in casey korean airplane flying around with a a rocket attached to it in the near future. Meam teacher a programming note. Next week we are going to talk with alon head. Who is the editor of veto magazine. And so we are going to devote the entire episode will be our conversation with salon. And we're going to learn jason. And i and hopefully all you find people who are listening are going to learn about vitale's so electronic vertical takeoff and landing. So what are those aircraft. Who's developing them. Why are they being developed What are some of the benefits or promised benefits of these aircraft. And what is happening in this. Relatively recent and extremely fast growing space united has put in orders for vito aircraft other airlines are also putting in orders or conditional orders. I guess we should say so. What are these things what they do. What are they supposed to do. And how big of a chunk of the the aerospace industry is this going to be in the near future. So that will be next week's episode if you have any specific questions or general questions about vitale's by all means please email us at podcast at two four dot com and we will be happy to work those in so. I'm really excited about this conversation. I think it's gonna be good one because it's a space that i do not know much about some really excited to learn to see what's out there and to see how much attention we should be paying to this particular niche of the industry. So that will be next week's episode after this week's episode of talk has been episode one hundred and twenty one. And i am ian petchinik here as always with chesler.

"New. Production aircraft not taking leases of inter jet aircraft of which can tell there may be twenty two or more out there grounded in various mexico. I'm guessing what happens to those. I don't think they're going to any of these russian airlines. So maybe they get cannibalized for taking a. Yeah exactly taking assembled out in russia. I don't know but the majority chunk of the produce super jets in the world are sitting in mexico idle so i don't know very strange situation. Yeah the whole thing's very interesting and obviously we'll see what happens tomorrow and what else gets ordered. Maybe some seen nine one nine who knows. Oh so this is ten generally related to anything that we want to talk about as far as the bread and butter of this podcast which is commercial aviation but it brings up a good idea. I think and so. We're gonna talk about it anyway. Because i wanna hear what you all think and how crazy this absolutely as we're already buying the auto brand we've already committed to purchasing six eight hundred eighty s. Why not bring back the flying boats between various cities because trade winds is about to operate caravans between boston and new york which has always been kicked around. It's always seemed like a good idea to me. And i've always been surprised. Someone's not doing it on a regular basis. Though now that the tickets or four hundred dollars each way kinda get why. No one's doing this at a regular basis. Yeah no thanks So seaplane operations are nothing new in manhattan a large operation of east twenty third street on the east river in manhattan these tip of the cessna seaplanes they operate between manhattan and rich people. Go such as the hamptons or to. Martha's vineyard her to kick cod or somewhere. Along those lines they're basically rich people shuttled planes out to places which people go for.

"Because the superjet has not been particularly successful. It's the only western airline that operated it was jet which no longer exists host of reasons but it had largely grounded it at superjet fleet because it just couldn't get part support for the aircraft they add to cannibalize many of the aircraft. What was left in the fleet operating so this is very interesting to me that anyone would be ordering the superjet at this stage and not just waiting for one of the newer generation. Russian aircraft to be certified. Yeah i mean so interesting. Aurora doesn't have any superjet in its fleet. So that's the most interesting one to me because you think you know if you're already operate them okay what's adding a few more and why not but aurora doesn't and that's interesting and then the other thing about all of this interest me is that azimuths airlines ordered six eighty to twenty three hundreds today. Who seem contradictory. Exactly not only are they having super debts but they're adding to twenties and all of this comes ahead of ordering any of the kind of russian new aircraft that are coming up and yes the mc twenty one is not kind've apples to apples as far as the super concern certainly but interesting that they would put disorder in and for that number. What why fifty fifty thing is all very interesting to me. And i'm sure it makes sense to someone it just not me. Yeah and as far as i can tell. These are.

"Emerson. Any they were never thought before. They were back down to france for the actual delivery of that aircraft. So it's not a quick process. Yeah i mean it got to the point where emirates just stopped bothering with the twos delivery. They just started taking them. From hamburg. there will take the aircraft cut out the middleman. We don't need the fancy delivery. Super jet is possibly coming online soon. Who i know so this has been a weird semi secretive thing. So it's supposed to be an indonesian low cost carrier. We need another one of those i know. So they're looking at the initial routes. You're gonna be ten cities using jakarta as the kind of a hub and there's lion air adjacent nece because i guess it's the son of the liner founder. So the whole thing has been very cheap very interesting because it kind of sprung up out of nowhere. There were no announcements or anything like that that you know. Hey we're gonna start in la no drumming a pr or anything like that. How it's traditionally done all of a sudden there were planes painted in this livery. Everyone went yeah and wikipedia. Not the best source in the world but it actually says the parent company of super omega is lion air group. Why does air feel the need to have yet another subsidiary they already have lionair care. Mullen deware tile ion air and ring there and all sorts of other nonsense. Why not another and call it super jet. I mean better than super land jet. I mean i don't know okay. Speaking of super jets. There have been wait. Am i reading this right double. Check that usually when we talk about the superjet. How about grounded and airlines operating them. The cease to exist so wait hold on a second four. Someone's four airlines ordered super jets right. Explain this.

"Is assembled in europe. it's flown out to china and then from there it is painted the interior is fitted. They do test. Flights under chinese airline actually take acceptance and delivery of the aircraft. Right there in tianjin engine. So they don't have to go all the way out to to loose really. I guess to do that. And as i mentioned the eighth three twenty family. They've already been doing that for on time. I don't know exactly how long but it's it's not a new thing but it's recently expanded as this week to the three fifty family. Yes so the tension facility is for the a three twenties. It is a final assembly line. I thought so that is six. I think the rate is six per month for the you twenty family. So that's three. Nineteen not really three twenty neo and through twenty one new. The big ones there. So that's what that is an adjacent just explained what the fifty situation is because they are different so there you go on that front so the first three fifty there and what's interesting to me. Is it takes a while for because the three fifty was transferred from too loose to of months ago which is interesting to me that maybe it's because it was the first one that it took longer so i guess it'll be interesting to see how long once they get into a rhythm how long it takes four to go from you. Know final assembly and transferred to delivery. Yeah it's a lot of work the entire interior apps to be installed and that's everything from the sidewalls. The carpet the seat rows the seats themselves. Lavatories galleys. it's a lot of work to get exactly right. It's similar to how airbus would manufacturer the a three eighty s in france and then fly them up to hamburg in germany to actually have the interior and sometimes those eighty three eighty s for.

"Other than the airline that is supposed to guess become how attack you. Yeah i mean the whole thing is. It's a very interesting way for italy to assist alitalia but not run a fall of the european union xxx competition rules. So what this all seems to me to be. Because of the historic support for all italian and the european commission saying that their support for. I'll tell you is basically violated competition rules. They've found some more creative ways to do the same thing but not get in trouble for breaking. Those rules is what i guess. All of the meeting between the lines ends up being. So i'll tell ya but not all tell you but alitalia wants more. Okay that's what i said okay. I don't understand it. But i don't think i need to. I mean at this point. You don't. I don't think but when you do we'll get there so keep your checkbook candy and will bid on it when the time comes. We are also going to bid for the malaysia airlines a three eighty s. Oh so we're gonna have a fleet of six eight. Three eighty branded alitalia livery. That's exactly what we're doing. That is exactly what we're doing. Thank you thank you for putting tuned together. I appreciate that how much to these three eighties costs. They don't cost anything. Oh this is a name your price and if they like it they will take it so malaysia airlines or the parent company of malaysia airlines has put out a request for proposals for the purchase of their six eighty three eighty s. They are between eight and nine years old all of them floating right around. Msn one hundred. So if that's what you're interested in you could do well with an airline flying six. Atri eighties alitalia branding. I think sure in reality. No airline no leeson companies. buying these. They'll be bought by scrapper.

The the site is too deep for divers to go down and gets looking at the senior officers marsupial robotic vehicle to go out of the aircraft which is probably going to take awhile yes. They have at least identified location of the craft like we talked about last week. So that's kind of step one and the biggest step is the finding things that's good more. follow up. Let's talk about covering unwanted holes jason. Ooh dangerous topic. But okay continue so. We talked in depth last week about the british airways seven eight seven that had an unfortunate incident wherein maintenance was being performed and they cycled the gear and a series of failures to follow proper procedures led to the nose landing gear retracting during maintenance event. And i believe when we first talked about this. Jason knows go. Boop was the technical term. I have not yet been able to find that in either. The faa airworthiness directive nor the u. a. ib report. He keep on. I think it might be in the glossary. We briefly mentioned. I think last week the fact that there was an air worthiness directive following the twenty nineteen event where a similar situation occurred. And the faa said. Hey you should put a cover on this whole and airlines had thirty six months to cover up the borehole that is directly next to the nose landing gear locked pinhole and so. There's a little piece of plastic that airlines are supposed to install. Ba had not yet gotten around to doing this and they have now said. We're going to accelerate the installation of the apex. Pin bore cover. Hey that's great. That happening again a little late but better late than never. Yeah so that is where they are with that. The investigation into the right pain in the wrong hole continues and i'm sure we'll be back with more in a future date. Hopefully not reporting on another incident like this. I am now happy to report that. Jason and i will be bidding for the all italian naming rights. Jason doesn't know this but he's agreed to it. So congratulations on that. So the new italian airline the new company that is scheduled to be taking over what used to be. All italia is coming online. And there'd called. It a which stands for italian transport to aero or italy or transport very creative naming. But we'll go with it. No one has any idea. What the logo or branding for that particular airline is going to be. But there's going to be a public auction for the alitalia branding which. It says that it will compete for in my mind having experienced the wonders of italian bureaucracy. A few times. I'm going to go out on say vanu airline will probably end up being called alitalia. Wonder how much end up paying for the naming rights of their own airline. It's definitely strange. So what if somebody outbids can somebody else startup. alitalia two point oh while. It has to come up with a new more creative name. but do you have to start an airline. I guess that's my question. I mean you could just own the all italian branding. it'll be like the people that own the pan branding. I mean so bags and coats and hats and things like that. But you don't have to have an airline now. I guess it is valuable brand name. People know it people. I guess generally like brand. Not quite sure i'm indifferent but i can't imagine it will end up in.

"To right away with a double engine failure. We think possibly the fewest contaminated. That wasn't the case. And apparently this aircraft this particular aircraft had been had experienced engine failures on departure a number of times in the recent past. This isn't exactly new behavior for this aircraft or this airlines there was definitely something systemic at that airline and unfortunately the grounding order came just a weed too late yeah an engine failure on departure in twenty eighteen on one of the engines that was relatively low time and low cycles. Twenty three thousand six hundred fifty seven total hours thirty five thousand seven hundred fifty three total cycles in twenty nineteen a different engine that had seventy one thousand seven hundred and six hours and sixty seven thousand one hundred ninety four total cycles failed as the crew is taking off from hana lulu. And so that that you know kind of a pattern within that particular. We don't know what engines if they were any either of the same engines from the two thousand eighteen or twenty nineteen incidents. That information has not been released yet but certainly investigators are looking into to which engineer involved and if it has bears any of similarities beyond just the the engine failures so definitely something dinty. Espn's is looking at and as you mentioned. They have quite the team there to look at all of these thinks. Yeah unfortunately they have not been able to recover.

Is nothing more than hypothetical right exactly. I feel like even though. I've got travel books. I've got things ready to go. We're still dealing with the. I need to be okay. It's canceled. I need to be prepared already that if it's cancelled that that's not going to be a surprise. I think that's that's certainly the plans. I think is import an update on the trans air. Eight one zero ditching. The federal aviation administration or late last week released a statement about their suspension of roads aviation. Which was the operator of the trans air. Seven three seven and the faa has suspended the roads aviation from flying or conducting maintenance inspections. This is actually not related. I mean it's very much related. I'm sure like so rated. Yeah but what no because that's the interesting thing. It precedes the crash at the beginning of july. So in the fall of twenty twenty. The faa began an investigation into roads. Aviation's maintenance practices and that investigation came to a head on the thirteenth of june. When the fa notified roads that it had identified deficiencies as part of the investigation and it was going to remove roads ability to conduct maintenance inspections and if the airline can't inspect its aircraft. It can't fly those aircraft so they had a month to respond and say hey wait the investigation. You gotta wrong. Here's either what we're going to fix it or what we think is wrong with what you said. Well in two weeks after the faa notified roads. They were going to prevent them from operating. The roads operated 737 crashed into the bay following. What we believe at this point to be at least one engine failure possibly to engine failures and so two weeks. After that now effective they can no longer conduct maintenance inspections they are grab it. They had two aircraft. One of them is currently sitting in pieces at the bottom of the ocean near hawaii and the other is now just playing grounded so an interesting twist in an already interesting investigation. Yeah the rest of the investigation of anti espn doing now. With as we mentioned a whole host of people is going to be pretty interesting. They've already determined. "Than twenty nineteen. So at certainly something to keep an eye on. I mean i think certainly something worth noting given the fact that six months ago seven months ago we were talking about twenty twenty. Three twenty twenty four was kind of the the horizon that i had fixed itself on and so seeing the good news of note. It'll be twenty twenty two albeit. This is purely a north american major airline but it was nice to hear that they were looking forward to having much more capacity on international routes. And that's what they were seeing so hopefully that translates into not just north american airline benefits but worldwide. Yeah we'll see. They went on to say that they believe next year could have the united believes can have the highest pent up demand for transatlantic travel. Ever which ankus if you qualify it as pent up demand. Would there have ever been such high end up. Demand for transatlantic travel of course is going to be a true statement but next year is has the potential to be either extremely disappointing or extremely exciting. I mean that's there's the there's the episode title right there. Yeah i don't think we'll stay the status quo because countries are certainly still figuring out where they wanna go how they wanna open up how they wanna let people in if they do open up and there's too much uncertainty right now. For a critical mass of people want to travel. I know i do not want to put up with it. Especially with regulations changing seemingly on an hourly basis but next year i would hope that.

"Year. The operator of the trans air flight that crashed in hawaii is grounded by the faa and british airways is quickly fixing it's uncovered holes. Hello and welcome to episode one hundred and twenty one of talk. I am impetuous As always with benowitz. I ian how are you. I'm doing well jason. How are you sir. i'm fine. It's a slow week. It is a slow he and and this will certainly be. I guess the slow show or fast show. I guess is the way to look at it. Blow quick orange show down. Well let's not call it boring before we even get going. I mean we're a mere thirty seconds in to this. It'll probably be will evaluate at the end there. You go okay. So let's get into it then. Shall we good news from the start. Last friday we tracked over a hundred thousand commercial flights for the first time since the thirteenth of march last year array joe. I'm calling that when a win so it took the better part of eighteen months but we made it to a purely arbitrary milestone. But one that i think is worth celebrating certainly still down from twenty nineteen year on year. But i guess years on year but things are looking up especially the recovery is starting to spread out a little bit which i think is the more important point to be made because we've seen the domestic. Us market just kind of rock it out of the gate since late april early may as vaccine levels too cold and people started traveling again but now things are starting to kind of move in other places so the break down the top three continents. As i traffic goes north. America was the top at thirty seven percent asia. Thirty one percent and then europe down at twenty one percent and then south america africa australia accounting for between two and four percent apiece. So really kind of a weird things. Recovering is the major markets in where we would expect to see things but europe certainly gaining ground though. It's been very stutter-stepped lately. Especially in asia. Where chinese domestic traffic has has actually fallen. Even though it's up dramatically last year yeah especially here in the us like you said he. Things are hanging on by a thread positive light united had its earnings call today and they actually said united. Cfo actually said that they expect twenty twenty two capacity to.

I'm still even though this is Summer i guess started summer number three. What really trips me out is out. Walk out the studio about About an hour from now and or maybe a little longer because they started the show little bit late tonight and it will be daylight up and it won't is at seven thirty here now. I'd say they can have jokingly. It was a great load of articles and the first one is talking about board for snagging. A hundred thousand f one fifty. Lightning preorders three weeks now. The tesla cyber truck cross two hundred thousand and a couple of days so that is an indication that you know maybe didn't get as many orders as they wanted to. But the f. one fifty is the world's number one selling pickup truck. And i think it's gonna take some time for ford users for drivers and just going to be kinda frank. I don't think the average board f one fifty driver is a target market or electric vehicle. I don't think they're convinced yet. Those drivers are convinced that this will live up to and do what the gas powered or diesel powered version of that vehicle. I think in corn country people are going to scoff. A farmer has f one fifty electric and he drives into a farmer's farm with his electric vehicle. I just don't know if that is going to be how it's it's perception thing. So the ford f series sold more than seven hundred eighty seven thousand trucks last year and had sixteen point one million trucks on the road in the united states. Now we will see what happens with this. But the number of people jumped on. The tesla cyber trucked is kinda surprising to me. Are these in. I'd like to see the demo makeup of the people that have ordered these vehicles Time will tell on this and obviously if you're going to have an f. one fifty lightning. You're not going to have to add some cheesy You're going to have to have the ability to to have this in a charger. That will charge the vehicle couple hours. You're not you're not gonna be hook mr the wall and that's just not going to work And rain is an issue. People uses were trucks in. They go a long ways every day. I know that people drive three hours. One way to get to a job site work all day and drive three hours back from a job site. I i know people that do that in these types of vehicles including construction workers on highway projects. So you drive by highway construction zone in michigan and you see all the workers vehicles it is full of pickup trucks. Majority them boards every once in a while you see a guy with a you know some vehicle some car.
