If everybody needed to be vaccinated for anybody to be safe, then I would want everybody to be required to be vaccinated, like with smallpox. But that isn't the case. The case is that if only a portion of us, uh, vaccinated first of all, the ones who aren't vaccinated have some protection. But secondly, it's up to them. They're not in danger. The ones who've been vaccinated and not endangered, They're safe. So you have you have an option? You will protect yourself or you don't. If you choose not to. It's not the government's business to make you do it. There were plenty of other diseases. We don't we don't we don't put people in jail and cost them their jobs, the smoking a cigarette and do we? We don't even do it for using hard drugs. Uh, we don't do it for overeating. We don't do it for all kinds of conduct that in dangerous people. "Black widow is lighting up movie box offices this weekend. NPR's Bob Mondello has more getting black widow into theaters took forever originally set to open in May of 2020. The film's premiere was pushed by the pandemic first to September than to May of this year. And finally to this weekend plan, or shall I just stay? Duck and cover? My plan was to drive us away. A real plan sucks. But all the waiting has paid off. Between Thursday previews and Friday's opening day, the film has taken in almost $40 million, which should translate to about $90 million for the full weekend. That's not huge for a Marvel movie. It's a record for the pandemic, and it's led to another record the first weekend in 16 months where the box Office for all films will top 125 million industry. Sighs of relief would probably be audible if not for black widows on screen explosions.

Well, usually, If you have a discussion like this, you need to have some leverage. We have no leverage. They have no leverage. The first thing he did when he got into office was to shut down oil production in this country. And so if you're running OPEC, you say, Well, uh, well, what are you going to do, right? You already aren't producing the oil like you were. So what? Well, and we had. I mean, we were getting there with fracking. Uh, you know, and there is environmental problems. The fracking that you know, need to be debated and looked at, but but we were getting closer to independence. The lawsuit by the way out of North Dakota, which we just talked about the details in it. They are the nation's second largest oil and gas producer. North Dakota is more than $80 million in lease sales. That's what it's going to cost North Dakota $80 million and it could balloon to billions in lost revenue. If the Bureau of Land Management does not begin holding lease sales again, So they stand to lose, you know, you know, tens of millions of dollars and potentially billions of dollars have lost revenue. In North Dakota alone. Now, you couple that with the fact that the administration has zero leverage at the OPEC negotiation table, no. And what That means, for all of us is this We are now beholden to a foreign country for our oil. And our prices could very well skyrocket in California above five bucks a gallon In some places, it's possible and beholden again. I mean, we have been for a long time, and then we started expanding oil production in this country. But, you know, I mean, there are people who would say Okay, we're shutting oil production down for the greater good. Of environmental concerns and trying to reach this green initiative. So we pay more and great. Let's head in that direction, and there's nothing wrong with cleaner burning fuels that we all want that right, But this was such a draconian quick. Decision with there was there's There's no bridge, right? Right? It went from you have a job to know you can get retrained for a green job, right? I mean, we need to head in that direction. Nobody is arguing that we we have to go in that direction. Fossil fuels are a thing of the past. At some point in time we got we have to get there as quickly as possible. And we are. Look at the look at the sales of electric cars in this country are off the chart, and you have, like, really high end. It's not just I mean Tesla and a couple of automakers. Everyone's got a new E car, but from a monetary fiscal negotiating standpoint, we have now put ourselves in a predicament. We're backed into a corner. We have no leverage with OPEC. And to all of you, he cybersecurity Porter at Bloomberg News joining us on the phone from New York City, William I'm still reeling from reading this story because it's terrifying and in so many different ways. What did this group of hackers do? Well, thanks for having me so they owned as hackers say they have this company in the worst possible way. They got into an account at this. This Security camera company Club Kolkata that allows them to look through the camera of all of its customers, and not only that they could look at the cameras live on day could also look at the archives of the videos that those customers had stored. From those cameras and in some cases of cameras were using facial recognition technology, which the hackers could also interact with. How is that so easy? Well, uh, you know, it's obviously there's multiple investigations going on at the company right now. T answer that question. But, you know, they got in through exposed credentials. So you know a user name and password for so called super admin account. I've been left out there publicly on the Internet. Um you know, it's sloppy. It's bad security practice on DATs how it happened. What do we know about about the group that that did this? Who is Tilly Cotman. Well. Kelly Cotman is a 21 year old with citizen who could've packed with an anti capitalist anti surveillance when he won world view. Um and you know they seek to kind of China light on on what they see is a abuse of technology. And then capitalism gone too far. I mean, that's what this is about, right? Shedding a light to say. Hey, folks, I don't know if you're aware of it. You've all gotten so used to having cameras all around you like we all have a camera on our phone. But did you realize what that really means? Right, and another aspect of this that really isn't being discussed. Much is like these hackers could have done something much worse. They could have sat in this system for a long time and lost it all this confidential video. They could have, you know, utilized the cameras to launch other hats in the future. They could have tried to hack the networks of Ricardo's, uh, customers. But they didn't do that. They came to a journalist and they blew the whistle. Silver Kata, the company at the center of this It's a startup that was founded back in 2016 itself, Security cameras that customers can access through the Web. Planned Parenthood Improperly Claimed $80 Million in Coronavirus-Relief Loans
"Morning which organizations should get money from the federal government's coronavirus relief programs like many Planned Parenthood chapters around this country received funds from the paycheck protection program several Republican senators now want Planned Parenthood to return the money NPR national correspondent Jeremy cameras on the story Sarah good morning good morning Steve what did the Planned Parenthood chapters receive exactly so what we're talking about is the federal loan program under what's known as the cares act the one meant to keep small business workers on the payroll during this crisis so small businesses and small nonprofits with fewer than five hundred employees can apply for forgivable loans and it's important to note that while Planned Parenthood federation of America is a big national organization the national groups as they did not apply for these funds instead it's the local Planned Parenthood organizations that operate clinics around the country that received the money I talked with Stephanie frame the president and CEO of Planned Parenthood of southwest and central Florida she says they got a little over two million dollars mostly to cover employee paychecks economic uncertainty at that moment was profound and the two weeks while we waited for this loan we spent having some very tough conversations about what we do we didn't get a strong so it's not clear how much Planned Parenthood or its affiliated groups have applied for or received nation wide fox news has reported and some Republican senators have repeated a figure of eighty million dollars combined nationally but the small business administration which administrates these loans would only say that the agency doesn't comment on individual borrowers okay but in any case the money was loaned to these Planned Parenthood chapters loans that they may not have to pay back if they keep people on the payroll like a lot of other businesses and non profits but this particular nonprofit does work that some Republican lawmakers are ideologically opposed to what they say right a Florida senator Marco Rubio who's chairman of the Senate small business committee says that Planned Parenthood isn't eligible for these funds under the program's rules he wants the money returned immediately he wants the SBA the small business administration to investigate why and how Planned Parenthood got the money and I talked with Republican senator James Lankford of Oklahoma who's also objected to this he also wants Planned Parenthood to send the money back that's what the Los Angeles Lakers are done that's what check check is done that's where risk Chris is done so other organizations arms exposed that they should not taken the money have returned the money so that would be the reasonable thing for them to be able to beat and Lankford says because Planned Parenthood affiliates nationwide have many more than five hundred employees combined they don't qualify so Steve there's some dispute about how to interpret these rules but let's not forget there is a big political element to this I mean currently it is illegal in most cases for federal funds to pay for abortion but there is a long standing political debate about any federal funds going to Planned Parenthood because of what it has come to represent about the national debate around abortion and of course Planned Parenthood has argued they do a whole lot more than that perform abortions how is Planned Parenthood responding to the specific criticism here well they say they haven't received word from the SBA small business administration about this they only know what Republican senators are saying and what's been reported by fox which says that the SBA has sent a letter to Planned Parenthood affiliates informing them that they're not eligible for this money and instructing them to return it but again SBA isn't commenting on this are you able to figure out what the rules actually say and how they actually apply to this particular organization it's hard to say for sure Steve I talked to a few lawyers about this and I'm hearing that there is just a lot of confusion Republican senators insists Planned Parenthood doesn't qualify under the rules Planned Parenthood says each local affiliate looked at the program decided whether to apply for this paycheck support but a lot of lawyers say the rules are unclear and they've been
