And I said, Hey, that money you're spending on gas. I said we could probably we could almost gets you practically what Jason was saying. I could get you in a brand spanking new vehicle for the same amount of money You're paying for your gas. Said. Do you want to do that? Well, Dad, I don't know about that. You know, I don't know if I can do that, with the miles saying, you know, they're cool to talk about cool to look at it cool to drive, But then you have to look at your life. Then you got a real at the reality sets in of how that's going to operate for, And he said that that wouldn't work for me. Five minutes to school. Uh, I talked to some people that own Tesla's And I saw a guy Mm, that in this development Few miles away from us. There's a lot of Tesla's over there. And so there was a guy his stoplight and he had his window down and said, Hey, how you doing? It's really good. "If I give $500 to a charity, I'm hoping that the money then eventually turns into an action within makes people's lives better. That's 16. Democrats gave more money than Republicans. Wow, Is that right? Because usually the stereotype is Republicans have more money. And so they tend, Teo give more. I don't know if that's changing for any particular reason or And then also acquired 1016 more affluent, educated and older Americans were more likely to say they donated. Well, That makes sense, doesn't it? Donated to political or charity political 65 older so the most people gave they were postgraduates 65 years old and making more than $150,000 a year. Yes. See, that's I think you need to make a good chunk of money to be able to feel like okay, this is this is my You know, I can throw money toward making the world a better place for I prefer my politics, but you gotta have some money. You know to make that because it is. It's a bad bet. Because you got a 50 50 chance or maybe not in this state, but you know, I got a chance of losing. And if you do, then you just through bad money after bad. Away, it goes. ABC Research gave what 7000, Speaking of money given away. $7500 went to homeless people, and they were beautifully surprised. We have sound on this story, Okay? But just because I think you're kind of slow. It's not ABC, not the network. It's no see. It was a British Columbia research project. Okay, good. I just wanted to clarify we go. The study was really designed as a randomized controlled trial because what we're doing is so bold and innovative and possibly trigger stereotypes that you know you definitely can't give people living in poverty, a sum of cash. We wanted to make sure that we had the evidence base to demonstrate whether or not this work so we built. The study is a randomized controlled trial, working in partnership with the University of British Columbia. And we gave 50 people who are recently homeless, a one time cash gift of $7500 and so the people who were screened into our project. They were randomly selected to either be in the cash or the control group. And then we followed people for a period of 12 to 18 months to collect data and see what happens. They were criticized because they said that people said, Well, why didn't you give money? Cash to homeless people with drug problems? Because then you really would have seen. Maybe they ended up blowing it, right? Yeah, yeah. I mean, what they did is they did this again. This is just a study. So it's okay. We're going to screen out some of the problem cases all left handers and then anybody who has drugged, you know, addict, addiction problems and mental health illnesses. So already. This is like, I don't have you gone, You know, want to calm the cream of the crop, but they are a very select group of homeless but it's the first time and was okay. We'll see if people are down there luck and they don't suffer from Bill those two kinds of problems. How would they handle it? I think a lot of people would be You know, would be surprised to hear how well those people tended to spend their money people within that one month of receiving the cash transfer people very quickly moved into stable housing, which is quite remarkable. Giving the pressure's there's a lot of housing pressures of portable Italy pressures here in the lower mainland. Azar is in Seattle. So we were thrilled to see that this cash was really empowering people to move into housing faster and thereby spending fewer days homeless. So once they've moved into housing We saw that people were spending the money on food on clothing. People were using the money to get their car back on the road. So for a lot of jobs, you require a car in order to go to work, But you can't fix your car if you don't have a job to pay for those repairs, so a number of folks use that money to get their car back on the road. We also saw that people made really wise financial choices on that counter to stereotypes..
