"Wanna talk about somebody coming to to do what you're doing which is to be in rabbinical school after a career in another field. I'm just curious about that because up until relatively recently being a rabbi was like something that people did more or less out of college and as somebody who's now on the old side. I kind of feel like i actually have learned a lot in the last thirty years and if i were to become a rabbi which i've got rid would never be but if i if i did today audi much better at it than i would have been thirty years ago and so i'm wondering just could you talk a little bit about how you made that decision to become a rabbi. After having done something else for a long time. And how has that influenced the way that you experience being a rabbinical student. One of the things that was on my mind. When i decided that i wanted to go to rabbinical school was as a leader Leader in community already in saint louis missouri. Which is where most recently from people were already assigning the title. Rabbi to me. It felt very strange. A i that was one thing that propelled into rabbinical school. The other thing is that. I spent a lot of time as an audiologist and i was starting to notice that some of the people who were coming to me weren't necessarily coming to me for their physical. Let's say a problems or their physical situations that they were actually coming to me. And i was more so as chaplain than i. Was there. audiologist in as that started to shift. I say you know what. I think i should go to school. So that I've gone to school for a audiology. And i felt of my career was great and i also knew that there was foundational learning. That made that career great along with the experience in so i decided that i needed to go to rabbinical school to get some foundational learning so that those moments in time when i'm spending with people as their rabbi that the foundation is there

"Well, I Um I'm invested in many businesses that are all brought together by some or theme, and that is being a great business by integrating social conscience into the approach of the business. I think for our generation millennials, in particular were passionate that doing the right thing for business is not a nice to have it. They must have and that doing well and doing good are perfectly aligned. And there's no better example of that than aspiration. Which is why our motto is do well too good. Yeah, And like you said, this is something that millennials are especially very interested in and probably a lot of our entrepreneurs who are watching and listening. So what advice do you have for getting into that space of mission driven cos Well, the number one thing to be an entrepreneur is you have to Authentically empathetic. You have to understand what people need. You have to understand the pain that Flix people so that you can fix it because a great business is fundamentally about solving a problem that a lot of people face and solving that problem in a way that creates value for customers for workers and for shareholders. Yeah. So when you have this idea for aspiration dot com How did you turn it into a reality? What were some of those first steps to execute the idea? Well, we MM We got great seed investors like Jeff Skoll, the founding president of eBay, and then we built on the trust and confidence that those original investors hadn't us to start taking customers serving customers great products, and then we got more great investors, and then it's you know, it's a continuous cycle that you know, leads to bigger and bigger company that serves more more people. So you've had a lot of success with funding And this is something entrepreneurs would love to have a swell. So what is your advice for raising money? My advice for raising money is be authentic. Don't say what you think the investor wants to here. Say what you truly believe is driving the success of the business. People want to be invested with entrepreneurs who are authentic and real. As opposed to entrepreneurs who pander to the investor. You know, there's all these different books and articles about you know how to win investors, etcetera, but the real way twin and investors to be yourself. Yeah, that's great..

"Her $275 weekly payments expired on Saturday. And NPR's Michele Martin spoke to her after that feeling that security blanket is ripped from you that you have that job, but you knew that you could rely on and it's not there anymore. It takes a lot out of you. I have three kids and I have to try toe not make it seem stressful for well, I'm at the same time juggling that award and many others thought We were losing benefits. So what is this bill mean for them? Well, it does mean these emergency unemployment programs will be extended, but by waiting until Sunday to sign the bill. Trump is interrupting the safety net for millions of people for at least a week, and millions of others are also going to lose a week's worth of supplemental benefits worth $300 S O in. Finally signing the bill Trump did put out the fire that he himself had started, but a lot of innocent people got burned along the way. Yeah. Cisco. How much does this latest round of relief aid, healthy economy and so many Americans who need help right now. This is a sizable relief package. $900 billion is more than the Obama administration is able to muscle through Congress with the Democratic majority back at the beginning of the last recession, eh, so it is an economic shot in the arm to go along with the vaccines that are rolling out now. They're certainly gonna beam or for the incoming by demonstration to do, But this will keep families and businesses afloat for a few more months and by the new president and new Congress sometime Obviously, a lot of folks will be disappointed that the direct benefits are not going to be increased to $2000 is the president wanted. But while that extra money would have been nice for a lot of people, it's not very well targeted. You know, a lot of it would have just sat in people's bank accounts because they can't travel right now or go to concerts or do lots of other things that they would ordinarily do with that money. We saw that with the last round of $1200 payments that went out in the spring, so compared to other measures in this bill like food stamps for unemployment benefits or compared to things that aren't in the bill. Like a two cities and states, you know, direct payments just don't provide a whole lot of bang for the buck in terms of boosting the economy. E wanted her back to you. Franco lawmakers are back this week. What are we watching for from them? Well, it's gonna be a busy week. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi plans to force a vote today on the $2000 direct payments. She wants Republicans on record opposing it something that Republican leaders really hope to avoid. In a statement after Trump signed the measure, Pelosi said a vote by Republicans against this bill is quote a vote to deny the financial hardships that families face. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell praised the signing in his own statement, but he didn't make any reference to any of the commitments referred to by the president. And Congress is also considering overriding Trump's veto of another spending bill on defense and again. It's really unclear what Trump's going to do. He's just continuing to add to the chaos here at the end of the year. Mm hmm. Scott. What's the larger economic picture here later? This bill comes at a really critical time for the U. S economy. We learned last week that personal income fell in November as earlier federal relief measures dried up. Personal spending fell last month as well, either because people couldn't afford to go out and spend money or because they were nervous about going out and spending money at a time when Corona virus infections are going through the roof. So the economy is really in a delicate place. Right now, this relief.

Everything We Know About ESIC

"The esoteric the E S I see they are correct me if I'm wrong new pretty much the governing body behind competitive integrity is that a fair way to for like ESL Dream Hack like a couple of event tvos the they for them. So. This is the group that took it upon themselves to investigate and do the background into most of the legwork when it comes to watching demos and things for this coaching bug that was discovered a couple of weeks ago a handful of weeks ago in counter strike. So to catch everyone up to speed first off what is the coaching bug great question. It is where a coach and counterstrike which so you have their five players. The coach to coach will be in the room as a spectator that can only spectate his team and their perspective. So he can't go flying around the map. He can't see through walls or anything like that. It is solely like if you were dead in counterstrike and you are cycling through your teammates right stuff like that. Well, there was a bug that wasn't all the time very occasional, but it's we've learned that it's been around since two thousand fifteen and it would occasionally allow the coach you would get stuck at a certain part of that. Could be anywhere on the map and he could see and rotate his camera from a bird's eye perspective. So it could be at a crucial point in mid say on any map, any given map it could have been at a chokepoint or near the other teams spawn, but it could give them enough information obviously on a pro level. Any information good information to then kind of say. Okay. This is what they're doing in these scenarios and everything there. So, this is recently been brought to light by two individuals Michael's Lewinsky and Steve Dude in Haufer. So European named for you who originally went through fifteen hundred demos. For those who don't know demos are. Obviously of games to find abusers of this coaching bug. So let's go over the facts I will go over their findings. And then we can give our opinions and how we I WANNA leave emotion out of it right now and opinion let's discuss facts than we can discuss opinions. Because this feels like it's been going on. All Year like this feels like it's been going on for months but the fact that this is really only been what three weeks months time pretty incredible woman coming up here. So it's pretty incredible on how fast things can turn around. From September fourth. Is when this all kind of I came to light. So let's go over. I guess some of the history to we still have some to get to the I bands like we said, August thirty first were dead Huntington and Zona teams were also they were given penalties disqualified some of the punishment. You know some were banned for a year time. Some were banned for a month time depending on you know it all came down to four, fit their major points and everything there and now this is where I was like, okay. How does this thing go and this is where e? E. SIC got involved and said. We will take the time. We will review as many demos as we can and look for where this goes and like I said, this is when they found out like. This goes back to twenty fifteen. So can in the initial findings that came out. On August thirty first. That we did not realize how far it went back. We didn't know this went back to two, thousand, fifteen we thought it was something that happened in one of the more recent updates and all of a sudden does bug became I should also say this guy only online to like I. Guess Maybe the Bug could occur on land even though it never did as far as I know. Wouldn't be able to happen on. That's what I'm saying because on land you I mean everyone it relatively quickly in the. Even though I guess in most lands, you probably don't even have coach just giving mostly ends are whatever will not dive down that rabbit hole. So all all that you take it from here new as far as breaking down what e sics findings and everything were. And we'll go from there. Yeah. So I mean obviously again that just came up with their findings recently kind of crazy him because of the amount of demos that they they had to go through are still having to go through. This is really like part one of two of the findings like there's to either part one of two or part one of three even this is going to have to be broken up. So so far they reviewed twenty, five, thousand Demos out of basically a hundred, thousand like ninety, nine, thousand, six, hundred, fifty. Out of those twenty, five, thousand Demos. We've seen it occur. Essentially, this bug has taken place in only point one percent of the total demos available, right? Like they're able to do these different algorithms and stuff that kind of scan through the demos and. Flag when this particular bug is taking place. So kind of keep that number in mind just I think it's an important number to note because there are a lot of bands that were handed down. That will get into this only happened in point one percent of the game. So it's not as widespread as I think both tim and I were thinking it would be a majority of the community I believe as well. Yeah. I think a lot of people thought I mean, how are we even talking about it last week we were joking about saying like Oh just wait till we get these findings and then see how much counterstrike is blown up and. Improving Your Relationships, Buddhist Style

"Hello, this episode is a mix a nice mix of the technical, the practical and the delightful. We're GONNA talk here about an aspect of mindfulness that can impact your relationships with other people, your biases and how you handle everything from lying to sex to alcohol to. Social Media. Specifically, we're talking about Veda that is an ancient term often translated as feeling tone. Here's how it works. Basically, everything that comes up in your mind has one of at least three feeling tones pleasant unpleasant or neutral. When you're mindless pleasant feeling tone can lead to over indulgence or clinging unpleasant can lead to aversion and neutral can lead to numbing out. Unchecked this unfolding process can have disastrous results as it pertains to your reactions to food other people you name it. My guest today is going to tell us about how to bring mindfulness to this aspect of our experience and her name is Martine batchelor. She was a Buddhist nun in Korea for ten years. She's written a number of books including the path to compassion and let go a Buddhist guide to breaking free of habits she lives in France you'll hear her lovely French accent along with her husband Stephen Bachelor who was a guest on this show now. Longo. So here we go. Martine Bachelor? All right Martin thanks for doing this. Same for asking me. We were talking before we start enrolling. We had lunch. Me and you and your husband in the winter. Before the pandemic and the world has changed quite a bit since then so. Conversation is happening in a radically different contexts than our last one. Indeed indeed and So side I mean it's such a shock to the system and it's so sad what is happening everywhere? Yes it is I think. One of the things we're going to focus on today is a way to work with our minds so that we can really become. Like individual vectors of positivity and helpfulness. So we're doing our little part to make a dent in the universe in this conversation. Indeed end to me when the pandemic started the Kobe Disney stock she'd actually full things came to mind. The first one was actually to see that the practice at really in a way prepared me for this prepared me from this pandemic kind of bringing some stability some ground. Clarity end. That's what practices about to help post when we have difficulty. The same time I decided. This is pandemic and I am not going to stress about anything. My mortar will be wise threats take your time take the time. You can do whatever s needed because if you stress and you go into be harmful to your south harmful to others. The sad thing was to think that. Appreciation. Moody. Rejoicing in all the people who helped us to survive and to see what was still working, what where people still doing and also so grateful that all these people in ended injure themselves for our survival. And, the thing I took the practice was, how can I change my relationship? How can we use this opportunity to really see the? And tried to see the other differently and our relationship to the other differently because we saw us to go on automatic. I have that relationship with this person I had this history with this person needs and as. Could we have a renewal in our relationship in this strange time. So I would say the pandemic in a way it Sarah Board and at the same time, he can be local community to really bring the practice to the situation or schools to help our sounds of coast to others.

JJ Johnson, Louis Hunter, and the State of the States

"JJ, welcome back to the WHO guest our you today. I'm I'm okay. How are you doing all? A little angry at the world. Yeah, happy to have a business and. In been being able to stay open through cove in nineteen, so yeah, the last time you and I saw each other was was march sixth at on Air Fest a podcast festival in Brooklyn. And a week later I feel like the entire world turned upside down. We were hanging out there and everything seemed like it was you know we were talking about vacation where we'll go and things getting cancelled and then. became a real situation for US era in America where. People were getting infected at a super high superhero now people dying hostels, getting overwhelmed and a true a shelter in place. I. Think the first time that. People that were used to. A moving freely had to adjust. We've never had to be told to do something bad extreme. There was hard for a lot of people. and. Let let's talk to you guys as a restaurant providing food for you community up in Harlem to. About today is the last ten weeks. You've weathered as a restaurant owner. And in the past week with the uprisings around the country in the wake of the killings of George Floyd. And Brianna Taylor and I'm an arbitrary You know as a black restaurant owner and a black man. What this past week has been like for you but I guess let's just start off with cove in nineteen. And did you guys stay open entire time to close forbid? How did you manage those waters? I'm not a person that suffers from anxiety. I taught that. There's going to be hard times in life, and you will figure it out in the storage room where I'm sitting with you during this podcast. I came here. Lock myself in this room and I started to think like Oh my God this business this concept. This vision that we. have been developing for years. Mike Come 'til Hall because I only have dismounted cash in the bank to survive. If I close my doors, I will not be able to open two reasons is the money will run out most people you close your doors. You don't need to pay for sale sach rent. All these things nothing stops in to filter brand was a new brand of community that people were just starting to get to know. so I decided not to close and I would say. The one of the major factors was our supervisor Kierra said to me, you know. I rented a room. I don't have a large frigerator. I can't horde groceries. I need to be able to eat somewhere and there's a lot of people in this community that can't go to a grocery store and just stack up. We need to figure out how to stay open and what we were able to accomplish in the last ten weeks, covert or eleven, weeks or covert, and in Kobe's not over, but like the heart of Kobe. We've touched a community very differently than it would've taken me five years two years to do people that eat in this restaurant now and filtered are not the same people that were eating this restaurant cove it that that customer laugh that customers at home I used to make these these funny jokes and say. Popeye's closes. That's our. You know. We are going to be good. Because people are gonNA, be looking for food pop I started closing four o'clock people were coming into the restaurant, saying hey, man, I pass by this place. I have fifteen. My last fifteen dollars I was going to go to Popeye's. What can I get here? Do you have crispy chicken? And we were converting people one by one, but then also people started to see what we were doing. We started to feed first responders right from. Frontline workers right from the jump. Due to the fact that my wife telling me nurses and doctors weren't thinking about food, and they were hungry the day, so we adopted all of the hospitals and Upper Manhattan and the Bronx to date. We've done fifty thousand meals out of field trip. and. That's our making. People realize that they can trust us that they knew who we were. What we stood for what we could become, and that this small restaurant that was new will right now. We're about ten months old. That was new would be here with us. Through the darkest times to make sure that we had some food or would I call it? Was this Obama hope in the community? Community that those people that were actually going to work and people that were unemployed say one day. I'll be back at work. One day I'll be getting back to receive a paycheck or I'm gonNA. Spend my money because I know these people working here and they live around me in. They're my peers. Some GonNa make sure that they have a paycheck so that they can support themselves and their

Twitter Technical Follower Limits

"I want to talk about the twitter follower limits. Some of you may have noticed that as you're following people on twitter you might get blocked by by twitter saying that you've reached the number of followers that you can follow in that given time period and I'm here to kind of clear that up because it's been a little confusing for me as I get excited about different topics and digital marketing specifically recently voice. Over the last couple of years I've started to follow people at follow people rapidly rapidly as I'm getting into trying to learn about different topics and I've been blocked a couple of times and I'm trying to figure out. Why so? Let me explain so there's technical follow. Follow limits on twitter and twitter does not limit the number of accounts you can follow overall which is good because we don't want that but they want you to pace it out so basically every twitter account is able to follow up to four hundred accounts per day. That's a lot. I don't think I've ever followed that many but maybe I have because this. I've gotten the limit. The block limit a couple of times verified. Twitter accounts are able to follow up two thousand accounts per day. Twitter verifies anymore. I don't have a verified twitter account. I wish I did but I don't so. In addition to the daily limits there's also actual ratio. Oh limits that go into effect following a certain number of council every twitter account can follow up to five thousand accounts. Once you reach that number you may need to wait until your account has more followers before you can follow additional accounts and this number is different based on each account so this this actually makes a lot a lot of sense. They don't want you to subscribe to the follow follow back strategy. That's kind of spammy. But as you're eager to learn about different topics and follow different people. You can follow up to four hundred accounts per day. I actually recommend this as a as a good organic. Twitter Growth Strategy Edgy. As long as you are not just following anybody I think you need to follow accounts that are specifically targeted to your vertical whether their prospective clients of yours or whether their peers of yours that you WANNA learn from or people that you want to follow to gain knowledge about a particular

Did The Rock steal Will Smith's career?

"How mad is Will Smith at the rock for stealing his career? And I'm not saying it's a good career. I'm not saying it's a good win. It's the same career though. Neither a really great at it. And but his make the rock makes a lot more money than Wilson does is bad money, though. It's like, stinky money, and it's still it's still pays like is still. It's still spins by think how much when you think about the rock and Will Smith how much of the risk adverse nece with taking roles because I don't think either of them have really taken an a-hole role. You know, they've always kind of been like complicated heroes fund, mentally heroes. How much of that risk versus comes from a place of reticence because like they are minorities, and they I think inherently they know they're not afforded the same league. That a like an army hammer gets who can literally do anything and still show up and get jobs. But I think if they did that I don't know that they would still get that leash. Well, and they have become their own machine. Right. They become executive producers on their projects or they become actual producers on their project, and it is true. Like if you look at Will Smith, this is somebody who was a trailblazer. Not somebody who like had all these other role models behind him where he was like, oh, I'm gonna follow their footsteps like he was really the guy, you know, setting the footsteps, but the thing about the rock is at one thing. I do think that the rock does. And I'm not saying he doesn't ingrate films. But he is willing to be in an ensemble where I think like Will Smith has done at once was suicide squad and was like. Oh, well, I just got huge paycheck for doing this year. Because I was even shocked when I watched suicide squad what very little he has to do with that movie. Yeah. And, you know, super charitable arc for the character. He plays. A he hits the sympathy arc which he shouldn't have that character shouldn't have. That's right. And so with the rock you go. Well, he'll be in a movie like may watch or maybe like Jumanji or he's often in paired, and then he's randomly attacking a skyscraper or a big Wolfer, Jamie. I think the skyscrapers attacking him and Campbell. Okay. Show some respect. He's always in this weird movies where there's like a white lady brunette that is his like wife a love interest brunette or green jewel in the jungle. One of those things has to be in his movie is like no man doesn't
