October WSJ Article: 'San Francisco Has Become a Shoplifter’s Paradise'

"So a couple Jason Riley from Wall Street Journal last month October he wrote a piece out how San Francisco has become a shoplifter Paradise Thefts under $950 are effectively decriminalized Okay now you can get a lot of stuff under a 150 bucks I don't know if you've noticed lately TVs are way under $950 I'm not saying they're like the greatest TVs Or they have all the great features But you can a 100% get a big flat screen TV for well under $950 So now if you shoplift TV because you're part of looting or grab and go or fun and games where everyone call you get a TV and it's under 9 $50 you basically you won't get prosecuted They're gonna let you go Why Because they have now this ridiculous idea Prop 47 California bout initiative theft of less than $950 in goods is treated as a nonviolent misdemeanor and rarely prosecuted So stores don't want to get sued they tell people we don't even do it anymore But now when you've got marauding mobs of people going in and stealing things all at once because they're organizing on social media and they're going hey let's meet up at target at 7 o'clock and we'll all go in at the same time and just overwhelm them Four men on Wednesday in California and Santa Rosa fled with $20,000 of merchandise from Apple store In San Jose $40,000 of items were stolen from a Lululemon store That's right they're even stealing yoga pants now I thought yoga pants were so sacred that nobody would ever want to steal them I just know there's certain things in our society that we just don't touch Yoga pants being among those things But clearly not they went and grabbed those as well In Chicago they stole over what I mean how much was it in Chicago now Can I go $25,000 at a village shopping center It's happening all across the country And so now what's happening is employees are quitting as a turning around saying I don't want to deal with this Why would

Betsy McCaughey Raises Concern Over Biden's Build Back Better Plan

"There was an excellent piece and there's always an excellent column by Betsy McCall She says never mind the cost just look at the absurd things build back better would buy Now I do concern about the cost but she raises a good point She says the bill is un American as it gets Here are some of its details which Democrats would prefer you not to see judge for yourself First generation down payment assistant Most people work and save for years to buy a home This bill makes them into suckers It gives $6.8 billion to low income first time homebuyers with no conditions It's part of Biden's scheme to increase racial and economic diversity in the suburbs First time homebuyers can get up to $20,000 and never have to pay it back Whether they stay in the home or move for virtually any reason it's free money as long as you're not the taxpayer footing the bill And it's likely a double whammy pushing up home prices for first time buyers who actually saved up themselves Home efficiency rebates the bill offers up to $14,000 to homeowners who lower energy use by installing new heat pumps air conditioning systems insulation and energy efficient appliances It's a pot of gold for homeowners who qualify and tens of billions of dollars in new business for contractors They catch ready Only unionized electrical contractors qualify Only unionized electrical contractors qualified design to twist arms and unionize the workforce Why Because unions bankroll the Democratic Party Racial ethnic minorities also get preferred treatment The bill promises contractors a $200 bonus for each customer served from a community of racial or minority ethnic concentration Whites go to the back of the line and have to hope the money holds

"Bail was set at $20,000 Thursday. For South Carolina lawyer at the center of a sprawling mystery involving multiple deaths, Alleged fraud addiction and even a hit man, Alex Murdoch turned himself in to face fraud charges. Including insurance, broad conspiracy to commit insurance fraud and filing a false police report. State police say Murdoch tried to arrange his death September 4th so it's surviving son could collect a $10 million life insurance policy. The state law enforcement division has now been asked to open six investigations involving the Murdoch family, including the unsolved killings. Of Murdoch's wife and son and the previous death of their housekeeper, Murdoch was required to surrender his passport and sign a waiver of extradition. Cybersecurity lawyer, Michael Sussman has resigned from his law firm after being indicted earlier today for lying to the FBI during the Trump Russia investigation. A spokesman from the law firm said Sussman offered his resignation in order to focus on his legal defense. According to the indictment, Sussman provided a thumb drive to the FBI that purported to show connections between Trump's company and a Russian bank. The bank and the Trump Organization have denied the claims. A Bronx man who allegedly poured gasoline on an occupied NYPD van during a protest earlier this month has been arrested. "So the kids are key in so many ways because you can build out a system for making them first of all like it's a lot simpler to make the same thing over and over or maybe a few variations of it. A few options. That is to constantly make custom handmade items. So it's easier for you but it's also more desirable for a lot of buyers as you can see and actually i was thinking about this myself because i've been getting into plants lately and i just bought a seat kit from a small business called plant flicks dot com. I don't know the people behind it and they're not a sponsor i just like their website. I like what they were offering. I was like oh. This is really cool. This beginner's it is going to send me all the seeds gonna send me a tiny little greenhouse and all the instructions. I need to grow some seats. Hopefully i should come back and you know what happens. Because i'll take back my endorsement if it doesn't work out but so far so good so the lesson is there's often more than one market for something or on a large platform like oetzi or any other really there are multiple groups of buyers. And i think it's actually much easier to find a market. Like what tracy has done then to find people who are looking for those specific custom items now of course. It depends on what you want to make. But i would say. We consider our archives of more than seventeen hundred episodes so far the most successful sellers tend to be something that they can make over and over some exceptions. But that is the rule. All right i'll leave you with that today. Inspiration is good but inspiration. What action is so much better to find the show notes for today's episode including links to tracy's website. Anything else. I mentioned in the episode. Just go to sisal school dot com slash. Seventeen o two one seven zero two. Thank you for tuning in today. I hope you'll do something to get closer towards a goal you believe in. I hope you'll come back tomorrow. My name is chris.

"Well that is where our partner fiber business comes in. They make it way easier to find in manage top talent. We have used it with sisal school. I've used it on my own elsewhere. Youtube can find the freelancers. You need to give your next project. Just the boost. It needs to finish strong right now. You can sign up for five or business absolutely free for the first year. Get one free year and save ten percent on a purchase with promo code s. h. s. Just go to fiber dot com slash business and don't forget promo code s. h. s. today's story features a di wire who made twenty thousand dollars in twenty twenty selling knitting kits on oetzi. Why did she succeed when so. Many other crafts seller struggle. Well here's a clue right up front so we're going to focus on the episode. There are tens of thousands of handed items on oetzi and while there are plenty of buyers which is good there also a lot of sellers. What does that suggest to you. Well to me. It suggests the old adage about the gold rush in the gold. Rush if you really wanted to get rich or at least you wanted to guaranteed profit. You shouldn't try to strike gold. You should sell shovels to prospectors. You should be the person who's position to succeed no matter what happens. So in this case many of the people purchasing knitting kits. They're just new crafters learning to knit not necessarily aspirational sellers. Although i think a lot of them would be but the point is that they aren't just collectors or they aren't just someone who wants to buy hand items totally different audience different market and as you might guess the account featured in the story smart and decided to sell to those new crafters. Welcome to us school. My name is chris calico in this quick action packed story. We're going to learn about how the account it made this work and what you might be able to take away from it as well all right. Stay tuned that story is coming right up. Tracy was a kid. Her mom tottered but she wouldn't be bored. She picked up the hobby again in college. She decided to try selling her handiwork. This was the summer of twenty eleven when he was just starting to take off as a platform for selling handmade goods. Tracy launched a shop called rams girl design with a stockpile of scarves already made. She spent less than fifty dollars to get started mostly on yard. She already had a laptop and digital camera and there were no initial startup fees just a twenty cent listing fee for each item even though the financial investment was small. She made a much bigger time. Investment learning how to sell physical items online and how to optimize her listings for search results. This investment has paid off throughout the years. She's regularly made an extra five figures a year from her side project and in two thousand twenty. She made twenty thousand dollars. The biggest key has been a big switch made in what she sold. you see. Rams girl designs started out selling tracy's hand at items but it expanded it knitting patterns a few years later then. She added knitting kits and fiber arts. Swag tote bags and mugs print with cheeky says. The knitting kits in particular have been a huge part of tracy. Success especially during the pandemic crafting tools in general were popular during lockdown. Because people were looking for something to do at home and she believes they'll continue to sell well. These kits generally contain everything. A beginning knitter needs to get started. Yarn knitting needles a pattern and a cotton project bag quality materials and photos or another factor in her success. Tracy just uses her cell phone for most photos and video but she has a professional light setup to make everything look great for handed items to defining feature. Is they're soft texture. She's picky about yarns and constantly complimented on how soft everything is. Tracy works as an account during the day so the knitting business is giving her a creative outlet and pushed her out of her comfort zone. She's learn new skills like product photography and design in addition to these new skills and new challenges. The site us was also increased financial security tracy and her husband or in the middle of the adoption process and the extra income has covered many of the costs. Some of which were unexpected. Like many retail businesses tracy's sales tend to be seasonal with the biggest months in the fourth quarter in early. first quarter. july is usually the worst bringing in around five hundred dollars but december peaks at around six thousand dollars. Thanks to all the holiday purchasing. Tracy totter south how to market on social media platforms like instagram facebook. Pinterest and tick-tock. She spends about fifty dollars a month. Paid ads plans to grow that amount this year. She admits that trying to be a jack-of-all-trades his capture growth a bit slower than it might have been. In retrospect she says she probably would have hired some experts earlier on in the process however she's just brought on a social media manager and with the time saved she hopes to work on self publishing her first knitting pattern book. Demand for car. Purchases is back in full swing. If you have been looking for a car you know how difficult it is. I have heard from several people who have been trying to figure out. What do i do about my vehicle upgrade. Can i buy a new car now. Can i buy a used car. I keep reading stories about the used car market in particular. Just how wild it is because some cars are actually worth more than they were when they were purchased a year or so ago in this situation. What are you going to do what you were going to look at. Edmunds dot com. I was just taking a look at that website myself doing some research over fifty years of car shopping advice and price guidance. So you can shop more competently. Shopping for a car can be overwhelming. But edmonds is there to guide you to your perfect vehicle. Visit edmunds dot com to see their best car. A new Legacy film stars LeBron James playing himself who has a young son Dong, who wants to become a game developer. They get trapped in a digital world by a rogue A I. And it's upto LeBron Bugs Bunny and the rest of the tune squad to get them out of there against the evil goon squad. It has also been reported that Space Jam, too, will have a slew of N B A and W NBA stars including Damian Lillard, Anthony Davis, Clay Thompson and Shinobu McKay. It's important to reflect the authenticity of strong capable female characters also said that this film is a better movie than space jam. All right, let's go. Better than the original space jam. That is a lofty goal. I believe it when I see it. LeBron James, though, is not even on the best team in the NBA right now. As of right now, that title goes to the Utah Jazz. The Jazz are 27 9 on the season. The next best teams in the league have 24 wins, so it was probably odd for them, at least when the two jazz players who are reserved for the NBA All Star game, Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert were picked dead last in the All Star draft by team captains LeBron James and Kevin Durant. James said it was because he never played as the Utah jazz and video games when he was younger. No shade. Though the Jazz is most recent game was a lost, however, to the Philadelphia 70. Both he and go bear had words for what they thought was bad officiating in that loss. They were then each fined for being critical of the rest. Mitchell $25,000 and go bare $20,000. All the drama. But i i believe that that this would be a good thing for a player to make the sixteen Sixteen and a half million this year off the tag and then after another year takes place then move into free agency. I really think he's position to get the best of both worlds and when they do tagging they can continue to negotiate through the tennessee until Until mid-july yeah they will have that opportunity if they choose to go down that road. And i think chris godwin. Obviously a young super-efficient highly val Valuable player in that buccaneers offense. She even re created a tiny version of those mittens, the mittens, mittens or not that hard, it's just the color changing a special stitch. Now what to do with a tiny crew shade. Bernie Sanders doll. Toby King immediately thought of doing something good with it. After all, Bernie himself was already cashing in on the popular pose much of sweatshirts. And donated two meals on wheels. Vermont and I said that that is perfect. That is what I want to do. She decided to sell it on eBay and give the proceeds to meals on Wheels America, she tells K II TV. That's when things got really interesting for 99 cents, And then a few minutes later. I want to take the screens. I was like, Wow, it's five bucks. The auction ended earlier this week and the winning bid $20,300 Toby King of Redmond had no idea that good she could do And now she wants everyone to have a crow shade. Bernie. She's not planning on making more. But she is putting the pattern for the doll in her Etsy store named Toby Time. Crow Shea. "$20,000" Discussed on The Side Hustle Show

"The coming that way there. I don't see a lot of people like you said. Hey I don't even have an email list until very recently it's a it's a quick kind of transactional channel type of type of readership. Exactly it's it's like a QNA's when people had their questions or problems they search for it they find it they get it answered and sometimes they buy stop stop. I remember in two thousand eleven. My Dad looked music. I had two heads when I said I was going to start a blog. You said WHO's going to want to fall your blog and I said no no one seriously no one I don't care all I want are the people that are about to buy their flooring to find me and call me and that's what I did. It's scary at the beginning because you have no idea no idea what's going to work or how to do it. And then once you start going you start learning. What are the keys but you kind of have to just learn by doing? I think yeah absolutely. Can you speak to your experience on Pinterest in. What if anything you've done to optimize is your presence over? There remains an enigma for me. Trying to figure out how to better reach an audience over there. Gotcha okay so so I let me caveat. This saying Pinter's is great but is not great for all categories so it tends to work better for things that are much more visual visual Mike Home Decor works crafts work at different things that you can see or visualize it doesn't work as well for blogging or personal personal finance it it definitely does and can but it's harder. I have written some articles with the express purpose of trying to do well On pinterest post and now with Seo like an idea will come into my head so that article. I told you about best paint colors to sell your house which my customers ask all the time. Sometimes I know it's important but I created the pin before I wrote the article because I had this hunt that it would be visual so I said let me do that and and then I'm going to write the blog post around it and I've done several things like that so the funny thing is my flooring pins don't do as well on Pinterest my my painting ones do and my theory behind that is that people are doing a Lotta decorating and thinking getting ideas from pinterest and Everybody needs to paint and half the people feel that they can paint themselves and pinterest does well on stuff for flooring. Boring people don't do the floors as often. And when it comes to sending and refinishing they really rarely can even do that themselves but usually they need a professional all to do it so is trying to understand why is working well and create more pins like that so now that I have pins are doing well especially especially on painting I will create additional pins maybe every couple months or so on there and keep trying them different pins that according to the same content. Oh yes yeah so you know on that Best Pink Color Sell Your House. I probably have ten different pans. Some some do better than others and and that's fine but at the beginning you don't always know what's going to do well so the very beginning when I do a new post I will do two or three pins and then see which does better and then and keep the one. That's doing the best and then create others until I get a few that are going vest. Meaning most re pens most clicks. How are you measuring that only clicks? I really only care about clicks to my site because if they're repainting or impressions it doesn't do me any good. It doesn't make me money until they click on my site. I I sort everything by what's going to my website and the clicks that I'm getting to my website re pins help like that will be the second measure to look at but all the other stuff is useless and distracting their red herring so do not worry about impressions to worry about engagement any that. Other south focus primarily on clicks. Sort everything from that. Going to my website with clicks. And then after you WanNa have a good description there and then the very this is really important. The very first pan needs to go to the most relevant board. So you don't do it to your best of board but you do it to the most. What's relevant one so for me one of my best painting boards is called? Diy Painting so that will usually be from painting pins the best I it'll go in there. I because Pinter's apparently tags it with the first board and it helps Pinter's understand what the PIN is about. So I I told you what to do when you create a blog post but there's the pre work before so I basically before a pin anything to that board. I try to create great boards so I will create some painting boards and then I tried a keyword. The boards with relevant painting terms. Pink colors pig shades AIDS. Whatever and then I will fill up that poured with maybe fifty third party pins not my own and I will do things where I search for? Let's say it's called painkillers just made that up. And then I will look for the pin to come up when I type in paint colors into search and I I can also see the number of re pens so I will take those and then I'll look at anything that has high repent so I always want at least a thousand but in my categories that can sometimes nice find things are like ten thousand or sixty thousand or whatever and those go into the board so then the idea is that more people follow that board and then we've made the board strong long sedan when you pin your pan. It's a strong board or a strong home and your pins do better okay. So it's not a group board but you're seating it initially initially with twenty thirty super-popular pins in that category. In that Niche yes group. Boards are not nearly as important as they used to be. I I have some that do well. But most of the casual group boards to poorly and basically you WanNa pin could group boards and you do not WanNa pin too bad group board so I stopped pinning to the bad group boards and I will always go into tailwind maybe every two or three months and look at how many re pins per Japan on getting on that board and if the less than one then I stopped pinning to that board. So I'm just pinning too strong boards so tailwind is the scheduling software. Yeah and the truth is it doesn't matter if you use tailwind or if you do manually it really doesn't matter I use tailwind because it saves me time and my time is worth more than ten dollars a month. I can spend that time and writing another blog post or for creating new pen so I use tail wind but the tailwind has good analytics addicts that you can use to analyze your boards and the other thing I do is I try to make sure that every new Penn I'm going to Pank go into at least five Boards right away so I have several decorating boards but they all have similar names. I mean I can't remember where they all are but might be something like diy home improvement and diy decorating and decorating your home. And whatever and I have several other painting boards OB- neutral paint colors and Diy Painting Dan. All Grey paint color is gray. And Gray's pink colors or whatever they are so when I have a new Pan I- I pin it into the best bore that tends to do the best and then I will repent it to all my other boards and maybe five boards of maybe ten bores and I'll space them out and then I'll do to to my home decor boards. And then I'll do later to to my group boards that are relevant okay. So you won't do it all at once. You're spread that around across through different relevant boards. Exactly so I might spread it out over a week or so our whatever right so it doesn't just look like eight. My last five pins were all the same exact one right. I have a lot of pans so until I'm going on your account here. Hopefully it looks pretty good. Are you doing all those images is yourself like. Do you have an assistant manager that account. What's that look like for you on a on a day to day? Most of them I do myself so yes I have paid one of my. Va The as do some. But I have found that for home decor even my. Va is excellent at doing pans for home decor I do them. They come out way better because I'm so entrenched in the category and she isn't so I know what stylish and I'm constantly looking at it. I see other pins hands up people do I will collect them into a secret. Board called something like things I really need to do so it used to be things I need to do that. It became things I really need to do. And just doing there but I never copy other people's pins I will search reapply from different categories. But I do most of those and I create them in Cambe all right appreciate you sharing the inside scoop on how to get two point. Two million monthly viewers on on Pinterest and a couple hundred thousand pages. That's many many times I'm sort. I'm earning from pinterest these days so appreciate that on the front you mentioned the ad networks. You mentioned the affiliate stuff Amazon associates among that mentioned the reward style which something. I'm not super familiar with you. Mentioned your own products. So what kind of products are you selling through the site. I don't really have many products or anything related to home decor at this point I have to e books that created in two thousand sixteen team which do next to nothing total failures on my part and then create a couple of printable so I have something like a one page timeline for standing ending in refinishing because people need to know how long it is before they can walk on their floors or that the dog can walk on the floors or how long before you can put furniture back or Petropolis so I created one pagers like that. But that's it. I don't make much money on that. But that needs to be a focus of mine especially for next year and then the other products products are my two. Seo Books so I learned how to do SEO really between two thousand ten and two thousand twelve. But I didn't really tell anybody Johnny as I forget some time in two thousand seventeen was I think or maybe two thousand eight. My Dad got really really sick and I also needed some more money to pay my bills and everything but I needed to get my mind off my dad because he was getting dementia but it. It turned out that he just needed needed. Brain surgery. Sounds crazy when I say just needed brain surgery. But we didn't know that for a long time and I had my mind office staff so I helped some bloggers. There's two SEO. I taught him over the phone. How to do it and I would do to our consultations and then we're got around because people said I knew what I was doing? It was very helpful. They could understand it and blah blah blah. So then I got so booked up. I got booked up for three months in advance and I couldn't do everything so then they also that I should start creating e books created to Seo you books one is on on page A. CEO and the other is on off page SEO. And they do really awhile. So that's what's bringing the money in for the product so for that it varies from month to month but maybe two thousand to maybe seven thousand in dollars a month or so in that process. I do everything in net profit. Yeah no that's helpful because some people like to puff themselves up with revenue numbers. You're like what what's what's the bottom line exactly. It drives me crazy. Finding I'm digging through your site all day like I found one link on the about page to start a blog like there's nothing on here that's like oh by the way I can teach you. Seo.
