The iPad Air has a radical new design. But is it worth the hefty new price tag?
"You spent the last few days with the IPAD air. What do you think of this six hundred dollars? While at I thought is this is my favorite ipad of the lineup but that's because I like when something is a good value versus the top features and I feel like this kind of strikes that it reminds me of when the iphone ten are first came out. You know it was like the one that you like, Oh, it's stifled ten, but at a lower price. That being said, I'm very conscious of the fact that like in the past, the pro used used to have a few features that you really couldn't get another ads like pencil support or some keyboard stuff. That's no longer the case. So value I, keep looking back at the eighth Gen IPAD and what it brings to the table and while the IPAD air has USB. Fast looks just like an IPAD pro The IPAD Eighth Jen is basically the twenty nine IPAD air for less. Got It. Got It. So it's still the more basic, the older looking IPAD for you. Still the better bet I think. So now long-term better bet is relative because I also any get into this in the review of Apple's transitioning I, mean the MAC chips are going to be a in their in house stuff does that mean we're going to see mutation with Max and where even ipads go I don't know but in the year now the IPAD air is the at least built to the future with USB see But I think that the you know and also the newer accessories. But, the entry level IPAD. He could still get that pencil. You can still get a keyboard. And so I felt like it was fine. It's it's more ugly. It's not. It's not as great and an ipad in in overall feel but it's totally functional. It just the IPAD air is just nicer. eight using the word Nice but it is. It's a very slick. Beautiful little product well, dig a little deeper with that in terms of the highlights if if I am looking IPAD air like what are some of the features worth noting for this device, right? So the first thing you should know is what are using an IPAD for The IPADS are tween devices. Still they are doing a lot of stuff you could do on a laptop, but they still don't get all the way there. So there's frustrations if you're driving this as your main computer here, going GonNa find things for file storage multitasking, drive you crazy but the track pet support, which is available on all the IPADS. Now, all the recent ipads I love that, and it allows me to edit and work on an ipad a lot better so. That goes back to what you're saying on the IPAD air if you're using it because you wanna get something like the magic keyboard, which is three hundred dollars super expensive but the keyboard is really nice. Sure. That's a really nice package. It feels like a laptop and it also costs like a lap like an expensive laptop. It's like nine hundred, thousand dollars more. That, you're paying. So I I think. I think USB see is a huge advantage for dangles chargers in general compatibility I. Just think it's easier to shop for stuff with a really eight lightning. That still exists on modern apple products because I I think it's a hindrance. So I like that a lot and I think the display looks fantastic. It's good enough for multitasking and for other things, and that's kind of what you're using an IPAD for. It's like. Running to absent once writing a bit on it, watching videos on it. What else are you doing? Got The you made the note that this looks like an ipad pro. Essentially, what are the differences when you're weighing the decision between getting a step by pro verses? This what are you not getting this or what? What are the differences because they look almost same? They do and the use the same accessories. So which is also nice because apple's ipads don't always do that. Sometimes they subtly shifting body design. So you could use an eleven in Tripod Bro Accessory from twenty eighteen and it would still work like the keyboard cases and things. But I I think that the differences that's weird. You pay more for an IPAD pro but it's a device that came out back in March and has advantages, but also as a few drawbacks. So the advantages are. It has faster screen refresh rate the promotion, which is. Up to one twenty Erz which is nice and smooth, I mean the pro ipads are the only apple devices to have that. The, the iphones don't have that in the other ipads don't have that the display on the ipad pro is technically a tiny bit brighter but I didn't really notice it the IPAD pro as the lighter. De Scanning. which is really that's a niche thing but it is interesting if you are thinking about things like. mapping out a room and turning into a cad model or three D. Creation. You want to get involved in some of those tools at the iphone twelve pro as you could get it on the IPAD grow be can't get it on here. Cameras, are a little bit different at doesn't have face I D which I do face ID more on an IPAD iphone I feel like it logs in a little more smoothly. The touch ID side button is fine. data throughput his technically a little different it's it's it's a little bit slower on USB. See Five gigabits per second verses ten gigabits per second. There's quad speakers versus dualistic a lot of little things. But the dual speakers on the IPAD air are fine. So Those are the differences and you can tell it's like getting pretty fine. Fine hair-splitting. Microphones are better on the IPAD pro if you who's going to record using the built in microphones on an IPAD pro if you're a pro person, you know that's a weird subset. So that's like the long answer what you're saying basically, I don't miss the IPAD pro and the ipad pros performance it's faster and multitasking, but it's slower single tasking. which is also weird. So. You'd expect in a fourteen Z on the IPAD pro and rumors of many led. There's no lead I pad yet. But the that could come next year
China's demand for 5G iPhone 12 Pro strong

Tasker Unpacked with Joo Dias - LG Wing and Pixel 4a 5G unboxing, OnePlus 8T review
"About. android episode four hundred ninety five recorded on Tuesday October Twentieth Twenty Twenty your weekly source for latest news hardware and Apps for the android faithful Jason Help. Richards. On. CL The three of us. Thank Jason, how is how is your time off your? How how is it? How was camping? It was fantastic as it always is it was just nice to like reconnect with nature and take the RV and knock it stuck this time. So I didn't get it stock. It was amazing. It was like there was little dress. Yeah. Did you get any amazing star field photos or anything again or any crazy nature photos with with your phone? On shows. Yes I will I will be showing maybe a photo or to a little bit later because the phone that I had when I was there was the one plus eight t will definitely be talking about that. We've got like a lot of hardware on this show, but we also have an awesome guest joining us for the first time Joe Dias, who is the developer of half's that if you've been on Android for any length of time, you've probably heard US talk a million times tasker. So you're developing task you're developing join an auto APPS. It's really nice to have you on the show for hopping on tonight. For having me it's really great well. Yeah it's good to hear. Like a developer sell a celebrity at our missed. Tasker tasker is one of those those goals, the Goldstar apps so great. As mostly with US certain heating APP. going. Going unpaid model. Which is, which is the because there are competing APPs to Tasker, which one are you talking about? Specifically, I'm talking about the really big one. After t t probably. But I mean you said it. It's not true. Okay I just mentioned in the scheme of just you know setting up recipes and things in the store I was just thinking about Sort existed in this diy. I think that there's a fair discussion to be had there and actually our first segment today we're not doing the news segment because we thought. Okay. So we do have a celebrity. Developer on the show today don't mind. Liberty developer through the rest of this show just go for it but we thought we talked to you a little bit before we get into all the hardware and other news that we're going to talk about in the show thought we talked to you about your experience working with such a notable APP and you know suite of services. For android, I mean tasker comes up all the time it has for years. And so I think it's I think it's it's a wonderful opportunity to Kinda like ask you like there. There was a time when tasker was the only APP that did what it did on Android, and then at some point, you know obviously people realized like Oh customization really big strong selling point for android and a lot of people who love Android, love it because they can. Really take control of their device in a way that maybe they can't on IOS. So then you have other services like I am not coming out and doing similar but different like how would you delineate the difference between what tasker does and a service like I F tt that would bring you to say you know what? They're not the same where where do you draw that line? I have to t t more web based. It's it's. It's much more centered on web services. So you have a very strong emphasis on connecting like g mail with a twitter or any of the any any to web services you WANNA. Connect and it's much less stuff you do on your device. So there's a big difference there because task is much more focused on doing stuff on your. And automating stuff around your device or as. Much more on the web. Makes a lot of sense. Yeah, and that is true. they tackle. You have some stuff that that works on the device as well, but it's It's not their focus at all. I mean it's pretty it's it's limited in scope, which is why in the day when I was doing a lot of just really intricate Halloween. Lighting still trying to do that but I had to start over because I moved last year I would use tasker because tasker. Let me do things like set up local motion sensors and I could tap into those web based things like my Phillips Lights and sort of create ended up using tasker to do this fun little. This recipe where basically wants a person would cross the motion sensor that I put outside the lights would turn on red and you would hear like a spooky sound come out of a Bluetooth speaker. I'm Kinda. You know I'm wondering what is you know? What are some things that people should think about tasker for in their own diy sort of machinations?
First impressions: new iPhone 12 Pro
"Slash talking. I happen to have one of those new iphone twelve's in my hand and my friend rich demure. Oh, he's got one too and I really wanted to compare notes with him now that the phone which will actually be out on Friday October twenty third but we got some sneak peeks at it. I been fun primarily with the camera that is the number one selling point. It's a little Zippier just a little dip. You're at least as far as I'm concerned rich who has also written. A book about the Iphone, what are your thoughts so far? Well, I love of the design that is my favorite part of this, but it's it's very true. It reminds me of an old iphone I can't remember if it was like the five or the four, but it has a very retro designed that I really like and I prefer this more squared off kind of edges versus the much more rounder design they've been going with in recent years and I also like the size of the. I've I've got the the twelve and the twelve perot, not the Max not the many and they're both identical in size and I really liked the size of the six point one inch screen. Yeah. It was the first thing that I you can't. You can't help but notice his. Wow, it feels different. It looks different. It feels boxing not as not as rounded. It's not going to matter to most people because there's going to be a case on it and they'll never know, right. I think that's so funny and there's there's a couple of nuances with the case situation. So on the pro, the back is much more matt and it doesn't pick up fingerprints but the sides on that phone pick up a lot of fingerprints on twelve the back picks up a ton of fingerprints but the sides don't pick up any fingerprints but again, the first thing that ninety nine point, nine percent of people. Do, is put their phone in the case and so none of that's going to matter and even the color you get and the styling unless you get a see-through case, it's all fine. Now as far as speed goes mice linked TV APP opened in one second versus two seconds on the previous phone, and that's been about on par. I don't think most people will see the speed. Have you seen the speed? I I think that it's going to be Zippier I. Mean Apple historically their processors I think are the best on smartphones. They're very, very fast and they don't make a big deal about how much ram is in the phone with android phones. It's all about the specs this you just know it's going to perform really well. Doesn't perform really well for the first year. It performs really well for like a couple years you know, and so even my pro Max. It's still doing pretty good my eleven and but I have noticed a little hesitation here and there with the software So I'm I'm ready for the newer speed. It's the camera cameras that while it camera is advertised as being way better in low light I went into the closet and I closed the door practically the entire way leaving just a crack open. So I get a little hint of light and it's night and day I mean the shots I did on the eleven are totally black and the shots I did on the twelve look like lit lights Ms Amazing Wow that is amazing and there's much more you can do with the cameras. Including the front and the back cameras, the wide angle camera is also better improved. I have not had a chance to play with the cameras in various low lighting situations just yet, but that is always the reason why people want to upgrade its really the camera for me. Personally, it's always the camera. Video do a lot of photos. So if I can get even you know ten percent better camera situation out of this phone to me it's worth it. Now I think for the rest of folks that are you know they got a phone in the past two or three years To me, it's almost more annoying to have to switch everything over right. You gotta switch over your whole case in your accessories, and this is what the accessory. You're not switching over you're buying all new. At this point? Yeah. So you are buying all new because you've got to get new a new adapter if you don't have USB see. I did think the box was interesting I. I can't believe how tiny the boxes I know.
Review of iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro
"What do you think of the iphone Twelve and twelve pro? They're pretty fantastic. They're amazing. The cliche is always to say it's the best iphone ever in these. Truly are I. Think there are some significant upgrades from the eleven and I think both twelve twelve pro show that I think for me the the. Weirdness but the hard thing to get your head around is house similar. The twelve twelve pro is and is at a bad thing and that's what I've been wrestling a lot with my review. I think the quick way I like to think about it is forget last year, forget the eleven and eleven pro and the three hundred dollar difference and the features, and if you think of the new lineup a little bit like the Mac lineup, the apple has whereas the twelve mini would be something like the macbook air and the twelfth pro would be like the macbook pro like the thirteen inch in twelve Max fifteen and I think the twelve is the macbook which has always been kind of a weird product for Apple. In the last like five or six years isn't it isn't the air a consumer thing I think that's where the twelfth false. That's an interesting comparison because a Mac Book I. Mean is basically been discontinued has always been kind of the you know the the lesser like it's the one that always gets the least attention right? Because if it was a product and it, it didn't it wasn't as cheap as macbook air and it wasn't as powerful as a pro do you source that as the issue with the twelve this year? I think the analogy holds up in a couple of those instances. I think it's it's definitely not as cheap as obviously the iphone mini and we can talk about prices second but also think as far as power Scott the fourteen as it's the same size, it's the same build. Aside from the stainless steel it is remarkably the same phone and etiquette people had them both in their hands I I mean I gravitate more towards the pro It's a little heavier. It feels more solid and at compare that more like I'm a camera person. So there's like these awesome cameras from Sunday called the as seven s three which are thousands of dollars. They're they're well-made they're solid cameras but then you hold something like Leica m the costs here nine thousand end the build is just another level I think the finish on the twelfth pro. You see earn it's thousand dollar price tag that makes sense to me. If, you think of the iphone twelve is conde affordable version of that foam. That makes sense. But this is not an iphone eleven replacement found I. think that's GonNa be the twelve mini
Talking Pixel 5 with Android Central and Android Police
"Of the weird hassles with the the Pixel five was that it was announced. months ago because Google when they announced the Pixel for a like. Oh and by the way we're going to have some phones later and they're going to be fine I don't know David What did you think of that moment there were they're like, Hey, also there's more phones coming. We're just tell you a little bit about them. Later I mean there were there were so many ways they could've taken. The way they really decided to do the announcement. It's hard to hold it against them. Knowing that the supply chain challenges they've been experiencing our they're they're they're bad I mean there's no other way to put it but I think that the way they ended up doing it I I was definitely in the candidates said just now all three of them at the same time pushed out the foray A. Little longer, but I think the way they did it is they were there under so much pressure to get the foray out at that point and you know and they've already established his track record of being willing to want something has been leaked endlessly, which has is with any Google product is going to be the case You know willing to be going on the record and say, yes, it exists Is. A good thing to do I generally for that? It kind of eases the tension. and. It doesn't stop the rumor mill a little bit, which is, which is obviously their goal I do think that there was they released the bare minimum amount of information to tantalize everybody. You could tell that there were two phones. We knew the names of the other than that. It was all still based on on the leaks that were pretty heavy during those you. Know late summer months, and until the the actual event and I just think that you know Google has this group of team Pixel people who are always on the lookout for for new information right? That's that's their bread and butter getting those pixel people excited about the new phones and this one in particular was hard because there just wasn't that much interesting about these phones. and. They needed to really grasp onto anything and I think that photo one that showed the little bit of metallic texture to the Pixel five kept people talking about it far more than they would have if it had been announced and then October came and it just got released. Yeah. No for sure. I completely agree to me the the pre announcement was also the when the Pixel for a came out. The context was everybody has to have five year carriers won't care about you at all and so I think that they may also had their hand forced by the industry where they had to be like, yeah, this phone exists, but we're not dummies we know five G. matters and we're going to have to make a five G. phone because otherwise you know carries won't give us the time of day. So they're. Coming to don't freak out I don't know whoever might freak out about Google hardware. So the the point you made about being not that interesting of phone that's like the central thing about the pixel five to me it's a lot of the reviews I've seen both yours mine. It's like this thing is pretty good, but it's boring and I it it's fine but it's not like amazing but I kinda like. It. Anyway is like kind of the zone and like you either like tilt that zone to this this is pretty good and I'm like relatively having with it or this isn't quite good enough. I'm not super happy with it, but it's like it's right in that mid range we did podcasts with Marquez Brownlee last week, we were trying to call the name for this new mid range of android phones premium nice. We're landing, which is terrible. What do you guys think about the fact that like the most? Interesting phones or at least the the phones that are hardest to decide which one to buy are in this I don't know six to eight hundred dollar range whereas you know the top of the line stuff. You just you just by the best one and you're done I. Mean I think that what we're seeing is you know the commoditisation of the higher end phones to play out now and I think that's was inevitable. You know we saw it with laptops over the years to, and now the the markets mature manufacturers are starting to figure out which corners to. Cut and I feel like that's what we're seeing. The Galaxy s twenty Efi what we're seeing at the one eight t you know with some of the stuff motos had come out recently to funds like the algae velvet and think that there's going to be some back and forth is they figure out what consumers are willing to give up and what they've actually really want and you know I obviously came down on the side of I think Google cut too hard cut too deep with the Pixel five and you know with phones like the Galaxy, twentieth? IC- a more compelling argument in this price range where you're giving up less granted, you know Samsung phones, their own various faults and foibles, but Hugo I understand the I understand the kind of thesis they're working with here they want to build you know it's this glass and metal slab and it does the same things. Every other awesome metal slab does right and they want to give you the things that make that glass and metal slab nice and. Convenient to own and rather than focusing on pushing big marketing bullet points like you know it has six cameras and you know like a support for you know this crazy fast charging that nobody actually really needs. But on the other hand I think in the US in particular, their price point was just very ill advised I think that they're going to have to walk it back and I think there's GonNa be a sale next month on. Black Friday. I would I will not be surprised see the because it happens every year but this year in particular feel like they have, they're going the other thing going that's in the US is aggressive carrier promotions right now for funds that are frankly better, and that's that's a real problem. I think they're going to encounter because I don't think Google has the volume and the scale to basically give phones away the way A. Samsung or an apple

iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro pre-order results beat iPhone 11 launch, Kuo says
"T.f International Analysts Mingji quo as liking the launch of iphone twelve apple and CIDER has young MC saying sales of Apple's latest line or likely to beat the launch of iphone Eleven Anyway he thinks they will come the first weekend of November. Toward Super Cycle Heights.
Set-Up Multi-Room Groups
"There. How's it going? Terry, here have you Monday. Let's talk about a tip that you can use to play music in a number of rooms at the same time but not necessarily everywhere. So in other words. You can say to Alexi play in the name of the song everywhere, and basically the song be played back on all of your devices. What if you don't want them play back all of your devices you are them played back onto of your devices or three of your devices. Well, there's a way to do that. What you do is you go into your APP. Then Click on the device's icon, which is long the bottom and then at the top right of the screen, you'll see a little plus sign you click on plus and then under those options you can set up multi room music so you click that and now what you'll see is that after a few seconds Lexi will show you the different devices that you have and then you can group them. So let's say you WanNa Group A number of your devices on a particular floor or number of devices in a certain area you checkmark any of the ones that you want to include you click next and You name that music group. So. There are a number of different names that are suggested for you or you can type in your own name and then you click save and once that's done. Now when you want to listen to music just all in in those rooms on those specific devices you say Lexi play whatever that music is that song and then you say in and the name of that group and that's how you do it. So pretty cool pretty cool feature because it gives you a lot of control over different combinations your different
The New iPhones Are Here!
"The new iphones are here the new iphones oh. Okay. I'm down. The Tuesday apple had an iphone event that it was all about the new five G. iphones that have five G. that even have horizon five G. CEO five G. Talking about five G. on the stage for about five G. minutes and then they showed all the phones and literally. I didn't count it, but there is a super cut on Youtube said the words five G. More than two dozen times over and over many times horizon five G. selling all of the benefits you're going to get from five G. None of which you're GonNa get I should point out. Even with the five G. phone because. All of the really cool stuff. You know the four gigabits download speeds. Are. Available Leila. Narrow tiny teeny weeny area in certain cities of the country maybe in one corner of Football Stadium. That's about it. It's only good outdoors don't work inside because it can't go through walls. It only goes about eight hundred feet. So you have to be within eight hundred feet of the cell tower with line of sight access. It can't be a tree between you can't be a building between your they can't be a human or even a raindrop line of sight clear vision eight, hundred feet Max away, and then you might get four g if no one else is using it. For gigabits not. Five, jeep with four gigabits that's confusing it's a marketing term. There's two kinds of five G. actually there's more, but there's two main kinds and the funny thing is that Tuesday verizon also rolled out. There what they call their quote nationwide five G.. The one you don't have to live in Fourteenth Street and race and Philadelphia to get. Outside within a hundred feet of the tower. That is the same as T. mobile's nationwide five G.. It's what we call. low band or It's a six hundred megahertz, which means could go through walls. It can travel a good distance. It's kind of like. In. It's a lot like what you got right now. Maybe a little faster may be probably not. Fact in some cases is even slower. So don't you know I I don't I think apple they must have given apple. How much money do you have to give apple to get your CEO on stage to get them to plug your stuff all the time to save verizon five, rise, five, g. all I mean apple's got more money than God there. The got hundreds of billions of dollars just sitting in the bank with nothing to do. You how much does verizon have to give apple to get all that attention a lot I guess. Maybe. The next time you're in the verizon store that'll explain the giant. By An iphone today billboard I duNNo. Apple also. They didn't use to do this stuff. They didn't. They didn't need to I. Don't think they need to today. They also kind of understated the price of the phone because the price they quoted people was with carrier subsidy. So, unless you're buying it from at and T. or verizon, no, t mobile didn't have eighteen team rising and it's Only, in the base model phones, will you get that deal? So it's not even the price of the phone, it's like when the back when they used to say, it's two hundred dollars with a two year contract. And you pay for it even after two years over, you're GONNA pay for that phone for the rest of your life. So there's four new phone. I just want to say that I want to get that off my chest Pay No attention to the hand waving about five G.. Very. FEW PEOPLE ARE GONNA if he if you're in a five G. Area Nice to have I mean imagine four gigabits. That's wow. That's fast. But. That's Very, few people listening to this can. Be a city eight, hundred feet of a tower you can't be outside it's. Kinda like Wi fi really is what it is Which makes me wonder why you know do people even care about this since most of the time when you're inside, you have wi fi. you know they they said Oh look a a an EMT in emergency Medical technician can get downloaded a a brain, scan a cat scan in the ambulance and look at it up because they have. But I don't does that is that something people are saying, Oh, I really wish I could do that. I. Need to do that. I don't know what they're gonNA do with a brain scan is there right driving you the hospital but okay, fine. Anyway, phones, there's an iphone. Twelve's by the way this is iphone twelve. There's the iphone twelve mini. Which is many it's smaller than the iphone se that they just started selling I mean it's really small. It's the size of like an iphone four. It's tight. But this is what's cool about it. If you want a small phone, it has all the features of the big boy phone. and. It's one hundred bucks cheaper. So. But. But you don't get it for the price. Probably you might s es even cheaper. So you know if you really want to save money get an se which is a perfectly good phone that has the guts have been I. Phone Eleven, and this is has the guts of an iphone twelve and its Tutsi. And it has a nice cameras and all that stuff. Then there's the iphone twelve, which is the IPHONE. that's a little bit bigger, and then there's the iphone twelve pro that's a little bit bigger still, and then there's the iphone Pro Max which is humongous. That's the one I'm going to get. I want humongous right. They didn't really explain the fact that the iphone twelve pro twelve pro Max have kind of different cameras. The only the twelve pro Max, you have to buy the humongous phone. If you want I mean they did some interesting things. They have a sensor that's fifty percent bigger. The that means a lot more light gets in and it has built in optical image stabilization. The sensor shakes when you shake That's pretty cool but that's only on the Max. I, don't think they really made that clear.
More Cheap TVs for Black Friday?
"Prime days over Black Fridays around the corner but that doesn't mean the deals are over right. Amazon has already followed prime. Day with its holiday dash promotion promising continued great deals and other retailers haven't been shy about pitching promotions either. But when it does come to black Friday which is just six weeks away historically, no product is pushed harder than TV deals. Amazon says it sold a record setting number of TV's on Prime Day and you know what that means. You'll be seeing way more TV deals in the. COMING WEEKS But you gotta wonder how much cheaper could they be then? I mean, walk into a target best buy or some other big box retailer now, and you can't miss him rows of large forty, three inch and fifty and set selling for two twenty, five to three hundred dollars. Amazon best-sellers even after primed have the same kind of price tags and if you WANNA smaller thirty, two inch TV you're looking at around one hundred and fifty dollars. So wait a minute. How can a new TV sell for such a low figure when TVs to the right of these displays are usually offered for five hundred dollars to one thousand and even more. Well. Since most TV sales occur in the fourth quarter and you may be considering an upgrade real. Soon, let's explore the catch. What is it very simply cheap TV's don't have a picture that is good. Is the more expensive ones but. I don't think you care I. Don't think most people care I. Don't think most people would notice I would venture to guess that the talking tech listener watching a three hundred dollar would think it's a pretty good image certainly as good as. They saw years ago for eight hundred dollars. The thousand dollar sets are amazing but I'll settle for the three hundred dollars set. Do you spend the two and a quarter on one of these sets or wait a few weeks or black Friday? I don't think the prices are going to be any different on that level. On the mid range level they might be one, hundred, two, hundred dollars off which means get ready to stand in line get ready to camp out if they do that this year or have your finger ready to click that mouse on Friday morning or Thanksgiving evening let's see what best buy Walmart and target have in store for us. I can't wait what

Early it's unclear what accessories Mike will receive in the coming weeks email simply says, ps five digital some retailers like target also confirmed the October thirtieth release date other stores. Early, the email is unclear, but the site itself will tell you what stuff you're getting. So I guess go check out your playstation side. If you did that that's exciting. Reminds me Tim Story of when he got the Gamecube right and he got the controller early and just sat there holding the controller dreaming playing smash brothers sounds about right for. Why did I? Where's where's your excitement for playstation five xbox series the next generation I'm excited for both and in fact, as a good developer that I am I am going to buy both the XBOX. You. Own Elaine's house none. There is none and the reason why is because I enjoy playing all different types of games because to me the more games that I play the better designer I've become 'cause right get to understand different studios in different designers, viewpoints and perspectives when it comes to things and that's Data Bill. Together. So yeah, like like imagine a designer who doesn't own either and only plays stuff team like they're really like closing the doors are so many games that they could potentially get inspired by
Google Is Bucking Trends with the Pixel 5, and It's Awesome
"Auto you and I kind of shared responsibilities on this alex the video. But you did a bunch of the photo samples. You took all the mazing photos in the review. You've spent some time with it so I would like to know what you think of the phone and whether people should think about it in the same way as they thought about the Pixel for Pixel three and all the other flagships that Google's released over the last few years. Yes. So I said a few weeks ago in the PODCAST I wasn't really excited for the Pixel five and as is often the case I'm happy to have been wrong. I really really liked this phone it's it's It's cheaper than a lot of the phones that have come out lately. Especially, the ones that I've been reviewing lots of phones that cost over thousand bucks this wins only seven hundred which saying only sounds insane considering how cheap phones used to be but this one, this one is. A very affordable flagship tear phone and it's it's sort of. Everything you would expect good and bad. I would say about about Pixel phone, right so the the specs are nothing crazy the the cameras are great but maybe not quite as as improved as we might have hoped but. I think my overall take with the Pixel five is that it's one of the friendliest phones. This year and by that I mean, it's just a very comfortable phone. You know it's it's got rounded corners and a nice size that fits well in your hand. It's very, you know generally fast and responsive and reliable They really just kind of nailed all the basics and I think that's what's most important to get right in a phone these days and and everything else is secondary but the Pixel has always had some kind of of major flaw that that keeps it from being like an easy recommendation and I think for the first time that's just not the case this year and I'm really really happy about that. So. You got the sword of sage college like I did. What's is your take on that because I'M I'm kind of in love with this color to be honest but I know it's been a little divisive. If somebody likes say the Oso orange you know really pop out there versions of the pixels from from years past what's your take on this more subtle color way? Well, you know I. Don't I. Don't need my phone to look like a traffic cone so I don't really miss the orange but. I really I really liked the sage I. Think this year has been a big a big year for different shades of of Blues and Greens in general and sort of any of the. Any of the colors in between those two. and I really liked the sage I still think my favorite finish that's been showing up on phones has been something like the whatever the Nebula Green I think it's called on the one plus eight pro. But I really really liked this the sage, the fact that it's this this you know sort of matte texture with a little bit of a speckled on it. So you can. You can kind of feel little bits of the of the back of the phone that are raised just a touch It's a really really nice finish I. I like it a lot.
iPhone 12 preorders: Apple's 4 new phones have different prices and release dates
"Some of the new I find twelve models a set to hit stores next Friday three funds from the range will be out next week but the I find twelve meany why be available until? Next Month, the Apple was rusted when it announced the new phones this way because the -fornia mottos will no longer come with headphones or charge or a data apple claims stitching them for environmental reasons. But critics argue is just a sneaky way for them to save a bit of cash.
The iPhones 12
"Mike, yes Lauren Mike, are you going to upgrade your iphone? Well have an iphone. But it has five gene. Yeah, who cares? Let's see if we can answer that on this week's show. Hi Everyone. Welcome to gadget lab. I'm lauren good. I'm a senior writer at wired and I'm joined remotely by my Co host wired senior editor Michael Cholerae. He who does not have an iphone hello from Pixel land. And we're also joined by wired senior associate editor. Julian Chicago to who has like seventeen different phones on him right now. Hey Julie in below my desk has like six phones on right now so. So today we are talking about yet another apple event this week apple announced a new iphone twelve, actually four of them and a tiny smart speaker, and these are the first iphones with five G. which matters doesn't matter doesn't matter yet. We're GONNA talk about five G. later on in the show what you need to know about it the challenges and rolling it out across the US and whether you'll even be able to connect to five G. With the new IPHONE are calling. We'll night is going to join us later on for that but first, let's talk about the phones themselves. Jillian. Phone has championed edges. Let's get that out of the way. That's probably the most important thing here, right? Okay. But obviously, there's more than that what stood out to you most about the new iphones twelve as someone who takes a lot of photos and tests the cameras on phones a lot. A. Lot of their camera upgrades. We're the most exciting thing for me and and I really like how a lot of those camera upgrades are kind of for the most part. All across the entire lineup from the 699 iphone twelve mini, you're getting the same main camera that they improve the aperture on as the iphone twelve pro. But for the most part that iphone twelve pro, you get these new features like pro raw, which gives you the ability to edit. Raw photos and also get the benefits of apples, computational photography, and that is just someone something that's really exciting for someone who takes a lot of raw photos with my camera just gives you more granular control over photo editing and also the other thing is they're bringing night mode to every single lens that's on this phone. So finally, you can take a Selfie, at night and not have to worry about it being too terrible, looking or grainy. So overall I think the entire suite of camera features on the entire range is pretty exciting and pretty dramatically better than what you had last year on the iphone eleven. And tell us about some of the video improvements to yes. For the improvements, they added the ability to shoot HDR with Dolby Vision, which is you know apparently the only phone that can do this and basically lets you get this program cinematic looking effector or look. You could say with all of your videos at ten bits of it's like super high quality. It just looks really good. With the option to edit the colors and have really good cinematic looking video as well with the iphone twelve pro you there have this improved stabilization system that moves the sensor itself. So basically, in fact, you're getting something that feels and looks much more high quality than ever before, and again, this is somewhere where apple leads compared to every other phone manufacturer except maybe Samsung is pretty close. No one else does the ability to shoot video quality this well, and it's just every year. It just seems to be getting further and further away from other companies even like you. Google. Pixel phones that take really great photos Mike what did you make the event? You know my favorite thing that I saw this week was the mini, the small phone small phones in general are exciting to me. Our colleague Brian Barrett wrote this week that the arrival of the iphone twelve mini is a harbinger of good for the small phone community I think you know fabulous when they came out what was it like eight years ago or so we started seeing these gigantic phones and then. People really liked them and they started them in huge numbers. So phones just kept getting bigger and bigger and bigger. We've all been waiting for phones to get small again, phones have gotten smaller, but they haven't really gotten small enough, and now this year I think phones are starting to get just about small enough to satisfy the people who are looking for small phone I was out last week two weeks ago at A. Socially distanced event and I saw a guy with a Sony experience x to compact, which is like a really tiny. It's even smaller than the iphone mini android phone and I asked him about it. I went over to him six feet away and I said, Hey, what is that and he started going on and on about it and the way that he was talking about it was so passionate and I realize that. Like okay. You know what? There is a huge market. People are really really passionate about smartphones and people are GonNa flip when they see the mini I think coming until November So I, think for people who really want it. They're going to have to resist clicking that buy button for a couple of weeks
MagSafe for iPhone 12! What Is It & What Can It Do!?
"So mag safe by the way what a troll of name everybody who the sport from their Mac book so much and like us year like in Dungle Hell watching this event and we're bringing back safe back and you. Get this warm flicker of glow and they're like it's a giant circle for your phone. What's safe about the point of maximum says that it would detach from your laptop when you tripped on it so the laptop wouldn't go flying. Do you think that your phone is gonNA attach from this circular magnet when you trip on the cable and it won't go? There's nothing safe about. Trading on the goodwill towards rational ports laptops. And instead it's a circle. So it looks very much like the like the Apple. Watch charger IT'S G. So the phone consult charge using your old she chargers a lot of confusion about this yesterday. So he can still just charge found aled while charging patio. If you buy apples meg safe one. Yep. It will use magnets to click on the back of the phone line itself in charge of fifteen watts, which is faster than most. Not As fast as a cable. But. The magnets are strong enough to hold the thing on the back of the phone and I swear to God. The point of this is so that when you get into bed at night, your phone's dead and you still want to screw around on your phone while plugged in dip you can. That's that's one hundred percent why they made this happen only if they made it like a six foot cable though. So it's an open standard. They've published the SPEC. There's there's some NFL stuff floating around. Anybody can just magnets they can't. They can't dram the magnets as far as I can tell the question is, can they can they MSI made for iphone drm the fifteen watt charging speed day? Definitely. MSI APP charters. So yeah. So they're definitely there's little NFC tags and the cases and the official stuff. So I'm sure they can software rate limit the charger, but anybody can make out dull Cardi making car mounts, Sco she's already making like it's happening. This is the accessory ecosystem for the iphone in it is all happening. So that is built out so that when they take the port off the phone, everyone's already used to click in little circles on the back. By the way that we've had this whole environmental conversation. To Max's circle looks very big. Compared to how tiny? Lightening Cable. Giant. It's like a coaster that you're throwing around wireless chargers waste electricity compared to came the radically less efficient, and so it's not good for the environment. He's where the starter apple buys Tesla. Conspiracy Theory was taking the port off the phone I'm saying that they're buying Tesla. Tesla Power Wall. So it's all happening. I think save is exciting I for one like I have a wireless car charger amount in my car and it's the it's the best. And so being able to throw your phone on there and taking off is really awesome. They're already all kinds of cases for that. I keep thinking about my little Osmo Jimbo. Yeah and so the new one has a magnet but you sound like fiddle with a clip to get it on your phone if that thing just becomes a MAG safe attachment. Like there's a million things you were taking your phone in and out of yeah plus they're going to sell more pants because people have to buy special pants with extra pocket with protective line or added to keep it from demagnetize credit. Battery packs that just magnet on the back that's was your iphone mini problem like there's just like a bunch of cool ideas that happen when you have. A magnetic attach things to found. The question is, how strong are these magnets? Can they hold the way of a battery pack? Can they keep your kimball mounted while you're I don't know doing extreme sports. Like whatever people do? Get. You're bombed down the snowboard mountain. Well, those magnets mess with the compass because that was a problem on the first phone that had A. Surger the palm pre. Just pointing that I get ahead, say I'm pretty sure like mom rushing the phone out the door and crap, the compass doesn't work. On their cabin board of problems. Far, below like sprint exclusive. Hopefully, it's like did anybody check the magnets and like five thousand apple engineers assigned to that problem now? I, think it's really neat I. DO think that it's obvious. The march taking off the phone is underway I very mixed feelings about this.
Interview With Whitney Wang
"Welcome to embedded I am Ille- Co alongside Christopher White. Today we are going to talk about professional Taco copters. Well actually prescriptions delivered via drones in places where growth's aren't viable. I guest is Whitney Wong from ZIP line. Thanks for joining us. Thank you so much for having me. Could you tell us a bit about yourself? Sure. As we said. Hong I'm embedded software engineer at supply. Supply is start and we make high-speed fixed-wing drones that deliver essential medical supplies around the world. Joins a blind a year ago straight out of college, and I actually have a background in mechanical and aerospace engineering. Building robots sand. Really, excited to be here today. We are excited to ask about drones and. Some world travel. But before that, we want to do a lightning round where we ask short questions may watch for. And if we'RE BEHAVIORAL OURSELVES WE WON'T ASK WHY. Are you ready. Good To to complete one project started as. Well. In practice I definitely start doesn't but in theory I would definitely like to compare one. Do you have a favorite acronym. That's a good question. I don't actually have a favorite acronym, but I have at least data acronym cuts new. Okay it's it's one of those reclusive acronyms. It's very annoying. If, you could teach college courses what would you like to teach? I took this really amazing course when I was in college called transformations in art and engineering and it combined art and engineering, we've got to do a lot of really cool embedded. He projects and was really free form and yeah very creative So I would definitely like to teach a class like that. Drone. Or Quad. Copter. I guess Quad Copter is a subset of droned. Depending on your definition but. Said fixed-wing. So What is the silliest application you've seen? ooh. Twenty question i. I guess. One of the summers for my internships. I worked at a startup where we try to make an indoor drone. It was basically a quad copter encompassed in a ball and it looked like the death star so. That was pretty fun. Cool. Do you have a tip everyone should know. Yeah Don't be afraid to get started I definitely seen many of my peers. get really intimidated by Harvard projects coming from like same more pure software background but you know, don't be afraid to to just like get moving in and make mistakes and learn along the way. Okay. So tell me about zip-line. fixed-wing launchers. Give us the rundown. Yeah. So the technology is pretty cool but it seems kind of random men and a kind of strange If you look at it from like today's perspective just watching videos online how it works is actually we have a swing drones. They look like tiny airplanes. They an operator assembles these drums on a launcher, which is basically a high speed catapult. The operators hit a button and these drones catapulted into the sky at a hundred kilometers per hour. So these drones, then move across the sky and We actually have a service radius of about eighty kilometers, which is about fifty miles and when it reaches the final delivery site which is typically a hospital or health facility in any of the countries that we serve. It will open. It's payload doors release a package with a parachute attached to it, and that package will guide to the ground and the local doctors who requested the order will go in retrieved package. Are Jones will autonomously fly home and it will actually. Do something that we referred to as a recovery, which is essentially It doesn't have landing gear. So what it does is it has a tiny centimeter long hook. At the end of its tail boom, and there is a big trust structure where our original like launching location is so like the recovery system is right next to that catapult launcher. And on top of this big trust. Will be a a line essentially like fishing line attached across this trust structure. The line will snap up as the drone reports keep. Yes. Location at a sub centimeter level accuracy back to the ground station and it will engage with the line catch on. So it's pretty magical looking.
Review of Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G
"There are plenty of android phones, and of course, the IPHONE to consider at three hundred and forty nine dollars. The Regular Pixel for a is easy to recommend at four, hundred, ninety, nine dollars the pixel for five G.. A bit more comparison shopping as with all pixels, the five Jeez strengths are hard to put on a SPEC sheet. It's more unassuming than other android phones, but it's software is more elegant and easier to use, and of course, the camera is almost surely better than the direct competition it will turn heads but the pixel for five G. won't let you down either and quote. But. What about that Pixel five over at and Gadget Cris Velasco says, android eleven is clean and clever on the pixel five. The five has long battery life, but the Pixel lineups cameras overall have stagnated. So lacking that key leadership differentiator rival phones can now offer better value quote. It's the best smallish android phone I've used in a long time with plenty of charming software features and a smattering of high niceties. If this were any other year, I'd probably be recommending. It more strongly, but it's not. So I can't to be clear if clean clever software with term support is the first thing you value most in a smartphone the pixel five is probably the best you can get. But consider this you could get a galaxy S. twenty F e Five G. With a more flexible camera system better performance a bigger more beautiful screen and expandable storage for seven hundred dollars seven fifty if you want one that plays Nice with 'em and. Wave Five G. Networks, and while it software won't be for everyone, the seven hundred and fifty dollars, plus at is another option in the same price range and packs a faster chipset more ram and storage and super fast charging, and it's camera while slightly behind the Pixel five in image quality is a lot closer than Google would probably care to admit I. Know I'm sort of comparing apples to oranges here. So how about this the pixel for a five G. Which? Uses the same chipset as the five pecks. The same cameras has a bigger screen that's still really easy to handle all for between five hundred and six hundred dollars. If you can live without water or dust resistance and you don't care about wireless charging, you're probably better off with one of these. Instead none of this is to say I don't like the Pixel five or that it's a bad phone I'm just not convinced. It's the best deal right now and quote.
T-Mobile, Verizon match rival AT&T with their own free iPhone 12 offers
"You know who believes in the iphone Five G. Super Cycle. Verizon and at and T. apparently. Bloomberg ran a report Wednesday saying that those two carriers and giving away free iphone twelve's. To customers who sign up for unlimited plans and trade in old phones. I had free and quotes by the way. Caveats upon t for the free phones according to Bloomberg the free offer see they don't have it in quotes. The free offer is available on these seven, hundred, ninety, nine dollars I phone twelve but not on the six, ninety, nine, many the nine, ninety, nine, pro or the ten, ninety, nine bucks according to the carriers. While all of the companies require a qualifying trade-in device and unlimited plan at and T.. V. iphones to both new and existing customers. Verizon has only offering free iphones to new customers. Existing bryson customers can get new iphone for fifteen dollars a month if they qualify. T. Mobile. The nation's only other top tier carriers since the merger was sprint. T. Mobile is also offering a promotion. Bloomberg says big Fuchsia as offering to iphone twelve pros for one hundred dollars each to new customers with trade ends. Gets also selling the new iphone half off with the train then. Not. Sure why Bloomberg didn't talk about the t mobile contract because boy howdy, there is one. The UN carrier sight says get to iphone twelve pro devices and two lines of unlimited five G. Data for one hundred dollars a month by a monthly bill credits. And it's for well qualified customers. If you cancel, you have to pay out the rest of the cost of the phones and for an UN carrier. They sound fairly carrier don't they I really enjoyed paying no attention to the carriers for the past couple of years. GonNa, Miss that. Anyway, carriers C. iphone Five G. pulling people at.
Apple's HomePod Mini may pack a punch, but not versatile
"Upcoming from apple is the home pod many a ninety, nine dollar small compact version of the smart. Speaker that I introduced two years ago as the home homepage for three, hundred, fifty dollars, and now it's GonNa take on Amazon Echo speakers in Google's nest audio All three are selling for one hundred dollars I think that's this is going to be a big Christmas gift I have not heard the small home pod mini yet. They did a nice job of making it sound great. It's cute. It's compact it responds to Siri. It's supposed to have great sound what it doesn't have. Is, much abscessed other services beyond apple music, which caused nine, ninety, nine, a month. Let's compare. Apple will let you listen to music from the apple music subscription service or from. Pandora. Period. If you go to Amazon and like to listen to music on the Echo, you can listen on Apple Music Amazon music. spotify or Sirius Xm and unnecessary audio, which is the new name for the old Google home. Speaker. You have your choice of Youtube Music spotify serious Pandora. Now really interesting is that if you there is no free version of apple music so you want to listen to songs you either have to own the MP threes. Pay For Apple Music where on the other speakers spotify has an ad supported version youtube has an ad supported version in on Amazon against spotify has an ad supported version. Amazon. has a free version not it doesn't have as many songs as the premium version. So I think you have a lot more choice I will be doing a speaker showdown to see which one sounds the best. So far I've listened to the new nest audio which sounds incredible. If you buy two of them for a hunt, two, hundred dollars, basically one hundred dollars a piece you'll have some pretty amazing sound. An apple is suggesting we do the same thing with the homepage many which will be out in November the new. Redesigned Amazon Echo Speaker will be out on October twenty second. I'll have that soon, I'll fill you in on how it sounds while the new nest audio is.
iPhone 12 has 5G, but Apple still has us questioning why we need it
"Now I said iphone twelve comes in four models here the rumor mill rang true. The phones are iphone twelve iphone twelve many iphone twelve pro and iphone twelve pro, Max. Starting with iphone twelve, remember the squared off edges of iphone Four. The new design returns us to that. Squared edges that meet flush with the devices front and back glass the front classes something special though. Working with corning delay, this display is protected by what apple. Calls Ceramic. Shield. It is said by the company to be tougher than any other smartphone class with four times better dropped performance than iphone eleven. The display it's protecting is apple custom Ole ed providing truer blacks, better contrast and two times the pixels iphone eleven or four, hundred, sixty pixels per inch. While that displays the same six point one inches iphone eleven, apple shrank the surrounding enough to make iphone. Eleven percent than her fifteen percent smaller and sixteen percent lighter than iphone. Eleven Choice of colors is not huge but they are pretty. With options and black. White Product Red Green. And blue that. Does things for me. I shouldn't talk about in mixed company. The candy coating is nice. Let's talk about. It's Chewy. Chocolate center starting with the phones five Genus Apple says, iphone twelve has the most five G. bands of any smartphone for better performance in more places. Additionally the company's silicon, the software approach. Let's apple make the best use of available five G. including choosing to not use five. G.. It sounds like iphone defaults to lt e tapping into five G. when it's both necessary and available. That is great for power consumption according to the company. Apples tested the new phones on over one hundred carriers and over thirty regions. In ideal conditions iphone twelve gets up to three point five gigabits on. which is what makes the Brian Bragging about four gigabytes down kind of funny yesterday. It does support millimeter wave those so. got that going for it. As, for the phones on workings iphone twelve powered by apple's a fourteen bionic, the first phone powered by the five nanometer processor technology packing eleven point eight billion transistors roughly forty percent more than eight thirteen. A six core CPU that's up to fifty percent faster than last year's phone and a four core GPU graphics that are up to fifty percent faster than last year's model.
What You Need to Know About the iPhone 12
"Apple held its second big virtual event of fall yesterday word announced an updated home pod smart speaker, and of course, the headliner its first five G. capable iphone. We originally expected this phone in September but production was delayed due to supply chain issues from the pandemic. Now that it's here, we turn to senior personal tech columnist Joanna Stern to tell us what we ought to know join us. Thanks for joining me. Thanks for having me. Joanne on tell us about this new iphone twelve. I think you mean four new iphone twelve's because in making things much easier for us all to understand apple released four new iphones. But they also have these slight differences. There's the new iphone twelve mini with is actually not that many but does look a lot smaller than the last few iphones we've seen. Then there's the iphone twelve and then there's the iphone twelve pro and the iphone. Pro Max you got that all. Only. Just. So what new features did we see I think that's what makes this year's upgrade pretty great is that there are lots of new features across the entire lineup and the big ones include five G. Five G. is an all of these new phones. There are new designs of all of the new phones more square edges looks a lot like the iphone five or the iphone four was very nice beautiful design some. Really happy to see that you've got camera tricks and you've got all new screens, new Oleg screens across the entire lineup plus your favorite anew charging configuration. Right? I am very excited. The design has a new magnet in the back. This is not visible, but it's below the surface and there's a magnetic coil and apple is now rolling out a new accessory line called MAG safe. You might remember the name from those old macbook. And these magnetic accessories will clip to the back of the phone and one of them is a new wireless charger. That apple says will be a lot faster than usual wireless charging, and of course, the big update here is five G. capability. Five networks are supposed to be the next generation networks and bring faster download speeds better connectivity. And we know investor sentiment has really reached a fever pitch in anticipation of this new phone, what are they and apple hoping this new phone can do for the company I think they are all thinking back to other quote unquote super cycles, and these were big leaps in iphone technologies whether it was big leaps in screen size or big leaps from three G.. To Four G. and there was a lot of excitement around these almost a decade ago and that really got people to upgrade in by new phones because the technological leaps were significant here we're seeing a little bit of that, but it's certainly not the leap I. think that investors or even apple thinks it is especially in five G. I've tested a lot of. Five g phones and they can be very fast but they can be pretty fast when you're in specific areas and when you're on your phone, you don't really feel those speeds. Of course, what the investors and apple are hoping is that the speeds unlock newt sorts of innovations, new types of APPs new types of technologies that run on top of it we saw. This with four G. Four G. unlocked a whole new generation of APPs things from Uber to instagram our phones could load these things faster. Now, our phones are pretty much fast enough. What are we going to do with this faster speed? That's the big question yeah, and we heard over and over again during yesterday's presentation that quote five G. Just got real you've quite. A bit of reporting on five G. Networks I wonder what's your take is five really real now for smartphone users five G. Israel and you can get it but you have to be in a very specific set of circumstances to get it. You need to have the right carrier you need to be in the right location in verizon sense you actually need to. Be Outside standing near a opole. So it is real but is not going to be very real for most users right now. So it sounds like there's a bit of a disconnect between proponents of five G. and consumers. How are we expecting to see apple and their carrier partners trying to close that gap? A Lotta this is about future proofing you have A. Five G. Phone now, and these networks start to get better and they start to get better pretty rapidly. I have to say I have seen a substantial increase in the last year last summer I had to journey to different parts of the US to get five G.. Now, I can just go to a different section of the city or a different section of. My neighborhood to try to test out five G.. So it is getting better the speeds are getting better but there are a lot of technical hurdles and there are a lot of glitches frankly, I mean, there are times when I testify g and the same exact spot and I could get blazing fast speeds, one minute, and then another minute just sort of four speeds. Are Joining as our senior personal columnist. The big question is, should people upgrade to this phone or should they wait my advice is to wait for my review but if you're looking preorder, my first piece of advice is do not upgrade just for five G. that's not a reason to upgrade. But what's really nice about what apple was there was a whole other big feature set that you get here that isn't just tied to five. G. You get those nicer designs you get that nicer screen you get that more compact form factor. If you want to get that many device loads of new camera tricks many that I don't frankly understand and need to even dig into because the presentation was so packed with all that information. So don't just go by for five G. go by for the big package and what it all means together. All right anything else that jumped out. At you about yesterday's event. Yes. Interestingly, they started the event talking about the product that we never remember that apple makes, which is the home pod, a new home pod mini, and this is a really compelling little product. It is a smart speaker from Apple Ninety nine dollars. Obviously, they're to compete against the Amazon and the Google Minis of the world lots of features that others have had before it's lagging in music support. No. spotify and Pandora's not going to be there for a couple of months but seemed like a compelling holiday gift by
Carl Pei is leaving OnePlus to start a 'new venture'
"Right. Well. So this is a this is a requested news story for us to cover. By Wesley on twitter, Rodin's please tell them. You're going to cover the fact that after seven years one plus Co founder Carl pay is leaving the company presumably to start a new venture one plus hasn't confirmed this move yet. But after an internal documents were posted on read it that showed pay absent from their leadership structure. Once documents emerged sources close to the matter said that he was he had left the company and start his own venture So he co-founded one plus seven years ago. And we're now wait and see for this to become official and be to see what he's going to do next. One how much of an impact you think carpet had on one plus you know like really how much will this actually change things? Versus. Not, changing things. You know it's one of the things that I think is kind of interesting is the cynical response that we've seen in some of the android circles like, Oh, well now it's it's just always been evident that one plus an oboe and bb k all the same. And that this was just a cynical a strategy for marketing and I've had several conversations with Karl pain drought various. Events that we would hold and get to go and travel to in years past and I think that there was something that was really unique about what it was. He was trying to accomplish even if a good chunk of that was marketing. We didn't have at the time one plus was really building up its fan base. We didn't have that android enthusiast marketing plug, right? You know like it felt kind of Nice as the gadget geeks to have a company really focusing their message on on this type of community in this niche population. So when when we see the the the recent transitions at one pluses made I think we've already seen the direction that the company is starting to evolve. The, the direction they're trying to pivot and go more mass market and that the little glimmers that we get of the Nord brand being handled almost like it's its own separate entity within one plus which is a part of the overall bb K or oboe unbrella. I think it's pretty clear to see that that's the direction that the oneplus label is already heading. So kind of make sense that Carl pay you looking at other opportunities. And I was looking to go and do something fresh
