Boston Mayor Marty Walsh on plans to let restaurants offer outdoor dining

"Restaurants in Boston are waiting for some specifics on reopening especially outdoor dining party walls with dressing the issue during yesterday's city hall briefing outdoor seating for when restaurants open it's something that we're working on looking at we want to help restaurants recovering create safe distance options for everyone I want to be clear that this is for when dining at restaurants is allowed back in the plan and that is not in phase one but we want to be ready so this morning the city of Boston licensing board took action to lift restrictions streams to streamline the process the board also issued an online questionnaire that serves as an initial intake for applications we receive responses already from a hundred and forty seven different restaurants there is an interest in every neighborhood and with every aspect of our response to this crisis we're going to make equity a priority we'll be doing outreach to communities all across the city of Boston and all across different business districts I also want restaurants and all that we certainly feel your pain because one of the first things that were able to do was when Russians were allowed to do take out in the city of Boston were able to work with delivery and helping you set up delivery services we're able to help you with take out restaurants and Indian folks didn't have take a licenses allow every restaurant that would take a license we also advocated for the state to make sure beer and wine to be sold out of your restaurants in the city of Austin City some of all of the places we allow grocery C. stores that sold out a restaurant so we certainly feel your pain and we're doing everything we can to help restaurants survive not just now but even after this when they open up so we want to let you know that we're working very hard so I'm asking you please make sure that you thought your applications online and fill out the survey so we can better serve you choose to move forward the mayor talked about the process of applying for outdoor dining we're asking people to go on the city of Austin website go to licensing you'll see that we were making it easier for people to apply for these licenses that they'll one day licenses Olivia series of one day licenses that we're going to do we have a hundred forty seven people have expressed interest now and we'll go through the guidelines would looks like some restaurants have the ability right now without having any type of special special treat not treatment but special kind of waivers allow for them to open up on sidewalks are we looking at but we're working through a process which can happen this is a good example so restaurant gesture on you wants to have a good dining they don't have the ability but their sidewalk in front of the building they would apply saying that we were interested in having a cavity or something in front of my store it's on the sidewalk we would be working with them to see if we could do if your memory loss if years ago on the city bus in these pockets we put them in a parking space so would potentially give them a parklet out where they could set up some tables the sidewalks accessible for folks and would be able to allow them the opportunity to do some outdoor dining there's other places that we might be able to you know close close on a parking you know with the while laying in the street that's used for parking and maybe turn that into a restaurant restaurant space so it would be creative in different parts of the city there's not one plan that'll work everywhere some people said shut shut down Hanover street it sounds like a great idea in theory could be wonderful but you know we have a we have a fire station the middle end of the street so we have to think about how we do something like that work on that so we're gonna be working with the businesses and for us we work with the communities let them know that's coming you know there's gonna be some sort of communiqu process here for example a lot of our restaurants and residential neighborhood so there's a house on either side of them so we want people to know that like okay we're gonna we will get we make a lot of them have also done you're okay with it because people have their homes XR minutes again there's not one place in Boston Newbury street staff and then you know Washington Street Roslindale down the street in in in in Dorchester Roxbury it's it's
