These stories stay tuned at the end of today's episode so fancy feast podcast to hear a clip from sports wars. You're going to really enjoy the end of the day's episode you are going to. Here's a clip from sports wars right now. Let's get to liz so this is really cool because i've been i wouldn't say it's fair to say. I've been trying thing to get a liaison for years but i've been having liz on my list at least to get on for years knowing. I wanted to get her on the show. You can absolutely and you should check her out on twitter. It's spelled allies e. l. a. underscore f f she does a fantastic. I mean fantastic job for yahu. She has a story that just came out that we're gonna dive into. It's all upside fantasy football team which i love because liz. Let's be honest. That's how you win like you guys with upside to cash in for you. If you're in a competitive league that's the difference hitting those upside i players but also keeping balance and while while constructing a roster in mind could you can't you can't draft the sean jackson in every around right or you're gonna get banged so you have to kind of think about who are floor players that will mesh well with your ceiling targets but ceiling targets are so much more fun because i think i mean i know ross. You're like a dad and a husband so in life. Maybe we have to be responsible but in fantasy the ball a little bit of fun and go all upside right and i just have to say you went to princeton right dude yeah yeah yeah so i went to brown. Oh does it. I hope it. Does it bother you that you couldn't get in to like a really good. Ivy schools the only only if it bothers you because you spent all that time eating clubs in princeton while we were actually so wait a minute liz auger no first of all. Did you play a sport or something and i was actually a competitive figure skater all through like elementary school junior high in high school well <hes> i didn't go to university of delaware. Which is the school. That has the best like figure skating program. I also played volleyball but i'm five two as most most people now have tiny person and so i wasn't a particularly good center so college. Volleyball wasn't really set up for me. No pun intended or so i do that was awesome so i i my point of asking that was did you get into brown based solely on your academic merit. I would say yes s. Recruited athlete i did not i did not apply as an athlete now holy cow so just let the record show that that means liz is definitely a thousand percent smarter than i am because there is no chance that i would have gotten into the prince and are any of the ivy leagues without football so that tells you that liz is very very bright among her other wonderful qualities. That's awesome liz. Gimme gimme the background give your listener is the backer and that's the most important thing we'll get into the fantasy stuff but i always liked to personalise my guest. I are so i so i know you went to brown but go before that. Where'd you grow up. How'd you get into fantasy football and how'd you get the gig allen. I'll make it quick. I a group in chicago. My mom was a single mom. <hes> since the time i was thirteen months. I'm the only kid so is the her and i but she was out trying to make a living so my grandfather who who was the embodiment of the carl sandburg poem if anyone knows carl sandberg <unk> bit of a reference but clearly i'd like to read as as we've already discuss because the browns step but like world war two vet grizzled guy that worked on the railroads he was kind of my primary caregiver because my mom was busy so he was the guy hi who was you know taking me to to girl scouts into figure skating and to any of the camps and stuff that i was in and so i ended up learning all the stuff that if were speaking in gender normative terms like boy would learn and <hes> supports became a huge giant chicago sports fan and he unfortunately fortunately when i went away really wanted me to go to north western so that i would stay close. He was really really like to stay close baby state and i was like no i wanna go out east. I want to discover cover. What all of this is about. I can't say not brown so i went out and he unfortunately passed away the first semester of freshman year and i came home minutes away to grieve. I just started watching. I turned on the t._v. In the bears were playing the vikings and the bears lost because that's kind of how they do injured originally and and <hes> i then as a way degrees started watching every single football game not just the bears games and that became a tradition for me best word a couple of years. I'm dating this this guy. He's in this thing called the fantasy football league. He says to me sheepishly. One sunday morning and i was broke like i was straight out of college had no money was waiting tables trying to figure out my life and he had something called the red zone channel and he said do you mind if we watched this all day on sunday and like kind of hang out on the sofa uh and i was like are you kidding me. Are we ordering wings or chinese. Like what are we doing here. That's awesome. Let's totally watch football all day so i ended up like kind of secretly managing co managing his fantasy football team to a victory to a super bowl victory next year i wanted my own team didn't wanna share don't like to share so i okay <hes>. There happened to be a spot in the league. I took it. I won the super bowl that year. When the super bowl the next year then one day i was watching fantasy football live on which i am now a cast member which blows my mind and thought why why are there no women in the space. I could do this i should do. I enjoy this so. I started a blog called. The fantasy football girl dot com created a real life contact content schedule be logs put myself made it a job like made it a third job and then also started a podcast started a twitter feed and just hit like just was grinding on it and really trying to learn from others and engage with others and i did that for about four years before scout notice to me signed me to <hes> a season-long deal and then yahu paid attention in poached me away from scout out and niamh now entering my fifth season with yahoo fantasy liz. That's amazing first of all. Both your mom and your grandpa sound awesome absolutely awesome. I'm just picturing your grandpa taking you you know to girl scouts and all all that stuff and god bless him man that is that's a that's a man's man right there so that that is awesome that that really really touched me and then as for everything else that is really interesting and cool. I guess my question was when you went to brown and then you graduated. What did you think you were going to do. What did you major in you guys. Don't even have major no majors no grades yeah. We have concentrations ross kirk. I am so i will admit my first semester not just because of my grandfather's passing but just in general like i was a basic tom girl from the midwest to showed up wearing birkenstocks like i knew nothing about rich kids about east coast. Life brown was very difficult for me to culturally adjust to but i really wanted to study a whole bunch of stuff so the front my freshman year i just kind of took everything from art history to the history of the vietnam war to theater classes and dabbled and then i ended up deciding to major in theater and linguistics six my mom was not going to allow me to go to college just meter theater so she was like baby you pick something else and i speak spanish so i majored in linguistics and when i graduated i came out to l. a. wanting to have a career in entertainment and was waiting tables and trying to be an actress at the same time booked a couple of shows and was working eventually actually as an actress but it just wasn't you know i had my health insurance. I if you go on i._m._d._b. I booked plenty of things but it just wasn't fulfilling and i wanted to own something creatively blamed myself and that became the fantasy football blog. You are awesome heard about you from other people but you are. You're like legitimately awesome. This is so cool i'm loving. You're a go getter on so many different levels absolutely awesome. I'm fired up even even more than i already was. This is fantastic. What did you graduate from brown by the way and i graduated in a we'll talk about it off line but you graduated ahead of got it got it. We're keeping your age a secret. I guess getting mid thirties okay. I'm well. I i just turned forty so yes. I am ahead of you so we did probably did not overlap so that everything about that is awesome. I want to dive into into your all upside team because i think it's a great article two right before we dive into that though speaking of yahoo you leaders. Did you know that they have officially released their week. One daily fantasy football contests that's right. They have a one million dollar contest for week one. You're probably we not eligible for this list salary but no management fee a hundred k. two first place meaning more money goes back to you the players if you love liz you will love yahoo dot com slash daily fantasy. If you're just getting started with daily fantasy football joined the free to enter yahoo cup up and play all season long one hundred fifty k. in weekly and seasonal prizes and if you get a perfect lineup you win a million dollars by the way the perfect commercial perfect read yahoo dot com slash daily tennessee to tell you while we're about to have liz talk about her all upside website team because that tell you winning d._f._s. With upside people that pay off so let's get into it liz your quarterback jameis winston and i think that one most people can kind of understand right you know bruce arians no risk it no biscuit like that that one makes accents to me. I think you're running. Backs are interesting leonard for net as well as dion lewis. I will definitely was not expecting dion lewis as is an offside with all the derrick henry talk so let's dive in your running backs for net and lewis and and i know i read your story but sell the listeners and they should read you just story by the way as well just check out liz. I told you on twitter twitter handle. She posted up there. You can find it but i want to get a little bit from you liz as to why for orna lewis as your high upside dudes so part of the conceit of this article right is that the upside is relative to a player's a._d._p. Inability ability to return on investment right so when you're looking at leonard fournette and you're looking at and i get it. I get the burnt complaints. I owned him last year to write like you've got character concern concern. You've got your ability concerns. He's attached to a bluff offense in theory. Although i i am optimistic about flip coming in and maybe energizing a lot of what happened what could happen happen this year but for nets range of possible outcomes is an rb one. It has been every year since his rookie year. Which is why he's continually disappointed in. Why everyone everyone is so upset so when i look at his situation what competition does yeah we really are. We worried about a livelihood. I don't think so right like there's no t._j. Yeldan elden. There's no carlos hyde. Those guys were allowed to walk in free agency. Now they've added alfred blue. L. for blue is averaged under four point -o yards for carrying four of his last five seasons and then they used a fifth round pick on this while armstead guy who's already had a couple of dings to in terms of his durability so we know he's going to be a workhorse of course good luck finding one of those in the n._f._l. Something someone who's not working in a platoon you've got him. There and i also think when you look at this defense that jag that the jaguars have he last year they disappointed yeah. We knew they were gonna request. Regress probably not as much as they did twenty eighteen but i think they're gonna bounce back. They've made some improvement and and so this figures to be pretty conservative offense that wants to establish the run shout out to evans silva right whether or not you want whether or not that's exciting in the modern day the n._f._l. This team seems very much built around making leonard fournette work and i think when you look at those range of possible outcomes and we know he is one of the most powerful one healthy running backs available in the league when at his current a._d._p. Shoot don't tell me this guy can't produce rb two numbers. I'm in mm-hmm yeah i would say. Is this his third year fourth year at any rate. I'm trying to look it up but at any rate i think he he realizes that if he ever want to get a second contract that one way or the other the time is now so i'm kind of with you on for net for all all the reasons just mentioned i called their game on thursday night against the eagles and it's only four nets third year but he he's eligible for a contract extension after this year if he has a big one so i like the logic there for sure especially on the backups and or lack thereof and i and i love his motivation as well. What about <hes> dion lewis. That's not a name. I've heard a lot that one kind of surprised me now so so the dion lewis logic is obviously i mean i'd be lying if i said it wasn't tied to derrick henry availability this season yes derrick henry came on on week fourteen just in time to win a bunch of people fantasy championships but his usage was suspect will dion lewis lewis was used much more frequently early on in the season and and i think people have forgotten about his ability to both run inside inbetween tackles and also catch passes right. We're only thinking of him as a pass catching back but i think in p._r. Friendly formats that also buoy him because when marcus mariota he may not even end up the starter right reading some reports what's on wrote a world that seemed murky about whether he tannahill are like duffer sure start sure it's probably marcus mariota but could there be a changing of the guard. Would anyone be surprised by that. No part of that is because marcus mariota can stay healthy. His mechanics are met also ryan. Tannehill likes to check down that is good for dion lewis and when you look at the online online retailer luan urine special is right <hes> with taylor the one out for the first month. I'm guessing that arthur smith is going to tell his fragile q._b. To check down a whole bunch is get that ball out that also is a place where dion lewis can excel so again part of this is due to his eighty p._m. He's going in the thirteenth round. What else are you doing in the thirteenth route especially noting a._j. Brown we. We're not sure he's a rookie. We're also not sure about his availability. Delaney walker is still is one hundred percent percent right now. You've got adam humphreys which admittedly competes in terms of yardage with <hes> expected yardage with dion lewis but i think at the running think back position in the thirteenth round you wanna throw a dart lewis could definitely produce rb three minimal numbers thought it was was funny by the way liz it's because he's suspended for the first four games. The titans played he didn't start the game but then he played like the whole first half taylor lewan in the preseason opener against the eagles which i thought was a little bit weird because all these teams are has indicated there guys hurt but like like you'll have your best off into lyman play because he's suspended for the first four weeks like what if you tears and achilles earn s._e._a._l. This thought i get it but i thought that was is interesting but absolutely their offense of lying is in is it nearly as good with him out and then by the way what if they suffer an injury at tackle one one of the first four games then that's when things really get bad when you get multiple injuries or in this case it suspension at the same position most teams. The next dude in is usually pretty good. That's kind of who i was usually like not the guy you want starting but he's not gonna lose the game for the guy after that. That guy can lose the game for you and that guy can be a major major problem so i like. I like your logic there. Let's get to your receivers this dante moncrieff who i can absolutely understand and marquez valdez gambling which is interesting. Is there enough there for marquez. Vow skittling to eat opposite devante items liz that is an excellent point and that is the biggest question because it's very it could be very much that the packers three main players are aaron rodgers aaron jones if he stays healthy and davante adams so what's left i. I'm not sure but i do know that n._b._s. Is probably the most athletic of these receivers. He's going to have some big some big game. If you're playing basketball go ahead and roll out what boggles my mind and why i wanted to include them in this article all is the g._m._o. Is being drafted ahead of him that to me is such simplistic plug and play rational jimoh. Who is the only reason he's going to be. The the big slack is because he's not explosive. He can't make separation and up on the outside to take the number two spot m._v._s. find you a man who can do both right right like he can definitely work outside and in he did that last year. He and rogers have been working on their timing. When aaron rodgers starts talking up a player and we're looking in a post taylor done article life lifespan here i am paying attention and so i m b s has huge breakout potential and again. He's so damn cheap like why are you not reach your you. Don't even have to read from you will fall in your lap and the upside is there. He earned his quarterback troy. She's been prioritized by the coaching staff and also just for stats. If people like these he caught twenty three of twenty eight catchable targets be at the slot and also brought down fourteen of seventeen balls when working on the outside so his versatility is great drama. Allison has not been particularly durable or dependable so i think you could see an expanded role especially with randall cobb no longer part of that offense and those targets being fed at least partially to n._b._s. Find somebody that calls the packers wide receivers m._v._s._a. and g._m. That's my that's my advice for everybody out there about dante moncrieff with the steelers. I mean i have been on this. Take since april so it's catching got part of the reason i included it was because i am doing a little bit of that fantasy football writer. This was my flag. I sort of thing so i just look at people are like liking james washington now right because of his first preseason action where he hooked up with rudolf his former quarterback and i think he had a nice is forty four plus yard bomb from josh dobbs and like the first opening moments of the of last week's preseason action but i just feel like moncrieff on krief is a red zone weapon and this team is going to need to score some damn touchdowns <unk> big. Ben is going to need <unk>. Okay we could talk about vance mcdonald. Donald every damn year advanced mcdonald's supposed year. I liked dante mockery. He is a big body. He caught seven touchdowns with andrew luck. Two years ago in luck was healthy. I like the he has a nice quarterback. Big bend like the big ben's been talking him up and he's probably not going to have a ton of targets every week right. This isn't the guy that your high high volume guy. This is your high value target guy because a lot of those are going to be in the end zone tight end time liz and this this guy <hes> there's a lot of height mark andrews tight end for the baltimore ravens a lot of hype for a guy by the way that was a fourth round pick the same aim years they had a first round pick tight in but man i read the baltimore writers and they're saying he was by far the best player in camp so far which was interesting. I remember him in the u._s. Army bill. I called that game for n._b._c. and he was excellent. People are all into mark andrews has it caught brought up to his a._d._p. Yet lewis and starting to i don't like it. It is starting to the buzz will because of what you said right. It's not just that beat writers. There's are are saying that he's the most explosive playmaker encamp they've been saying that throughout spring and summer practices that's the drumbeat that people talk about it is becoming deafening happening. The buzz is mounting. This is also a converted wide receiver right <hes> a high percentile spark athlete and he was used. I used in college to bail out his q._b. Numerous times so i like what he's doing last year. He flashed radiate a let's see two grabs over sixty yards last year which is incredible for a rookie and i look at this receiving corps and there's a lot of potential miles boykin who i like to call kenny golladay two point oh <hes> he has potential marquees brown could do something if he get on the field otherwise though if i'm looking at the players who could bail out a explosive admittedly but quarterback who struggles with accuracy. I think a big bodied athletic tight end is exactly kalihi what lamar jackson needs and that's why you're seeing all these reports about the growing chemistry so i have him projected for fifty three grabs six hundred seventy eight yards and five touchdowns when you look at those double digit rounds where he is still available especially at a position. It's volatile as china. I'm taking it. Her name is liz loza. You need need to check out her stories over at yahoo including the all upside fantasy football team if you want to read more she. Twenty seventh two thousand seven mark richt georgia football's head coach strolls across the turf of municipal stadium in jacksonville florida in just thirty thirty minutes his bulldogs will kick off against the florida gators and for once richt is brimming with confidence. Both teams are now five and two so neither is. I'm really in national championship contention but for richt. This is still the most important game he's ever coached. It's chillier than usual today. In jacksonville the the city. That's hosted pretty much every florida georgia game since the nineteen thirties jacksonville is supposed to be a neutral game site but it doesn't feel that way to richt it's in florida for crying out loud and a game called. The gator bowl is played here. How could it be neutral. Rick thinks as he looks up <unk> at a sea of orange and blue gator fans. The gators brought the bulldogs to heal in five of their last six matchups. It's given florida a huge mental edge and made the buttoned-up georgia coach desperate enough to do something crazy at least for him something with swagger. Maybe a little arrogance something something to get some fire in his squad's belly even if it pisses off some football purists something in other words very unmarked rick lake in seven seasons at georgia richt has built a reputation as a man of faith. Who's quiet decency stands out in the cutthroat world of college football for him. It's simple you win with integrity you lose with integrity. It's the georgia way. That's what makes this right now. Now the most off the wall moment of mark ricks entire career as kickoff approaches rick makes his way back to the cramp locker room stands before or his players and reminds them of his plan to snap their losing streak. He tells them you don't get a celebration penalty. After our first score you'll all be doing early morning. Runs runs welcome to jacksonville and the seventy fifth encounter at this site between these two better rivals however you need to to compete if you're going to have a real rivalry and georgia has lost as we said fifteen the last seventeen almost nine minutes into a scoreless game with georgia facing third and goal at the florida one yard line nine star running back no sean marino takes a hand off and jumps over the pile of lyman in front of him marino up attack jour-jour touch. There and here comes the entire team. Watch this for excessive celebration. We may have fifteen. Thank jamir on this one. I can't believe this was playing. This was absolutely absolutely plan. Ric decided that he has got to try to find his t._v. He's tired of having the psychological advantage. He's is willing to give up the penalty. Nearly every georgia player on the sideline russia's the field penalty flags fly in every direction the c._b._s. This cameras swing to the other side line anticipating reaction from the gators. Tim tebow florida's phenomenally talented sophomore. Quarterback looks confused. Sodas tvos coach urban meyer meyer is frantically waving his florida players off the field to avoid pointless penalties. Meanwhile rick takes it all in happily and knows his plan worked the gators her rattled as the second half unfolds. Georgia's still doesn't give away its leap stafford marino touch that the bulldogs match every tibo touchdown with one of their own and win the game forty two to thirty for the first time in years. The florida georgia game lives up to the hype a rivalry. That's been uneven in the last decade. It is incredible once again. Georgia's full team touchdown celebration quickly gets a nickname in the media. The gator stomp richt is thrilled but he's created an unexpected new problem while he made the rivalry competitive again he also just encouraged urban meyer tim tebow abo- and the entire florida team to spend the next three hundred sixty four days plotting their revenge that was just a preview of sports wars to hear the rest of the story subscribed to sports wars on apple podcasts or wherever you're listening right now.
