Sarah low how are you. I'm great. How about you? Oh little tired at a birthday party this weekend and so we entertained at our house and I'm just tired now and it's Monday yeah you it is Monday blues but here we are. We're going to discuss something a craze. That's going on especially social media so waist training waste trainers. Have you ever. We're used once they're no. I've worn shape. Wear but this is sounding a little too close to a corset exotic not Yeah I'm with you. I've never use the waste trainer but I thought this is something important to discuss again just because it's all over instagram. It's all all over different websites different blogs and I just wanted to kind of dive in deeper and see what's the waist training craze so so unfortunately we know that body types are trend so that's just what it is and the hourglass figure has regained a lot of popularity in recent years and Celebrities like the Kardashians Jessica Alba Jennifer Lopez and. Many more are have helped bringing curves back to the spotlight and many influencers and other public figures claim that they have achieved these curvaceous figures And snatched waste with the help of waste trainers snatched waste So yeah so that terms not waist. I've been hearing it every words pretty much as saying like you have a tiny waist. I mean I think I I for me. I hear the word cinched-waist in that but snatched. Okay I I. It's something you know that I started hearing the Kardashian say another celebrities so again that's kind of the whole being snatched ties in with the waist training gene right trying to right now. I'd Probably Watch. I probably spend more time in Victorian era books than watching the car Dash Ev. You Know I. They don't try to watch their show but I feel like I can't get away from them the they're everywhere so it's like I kinda you know watch bits and pieces is there And there's different forms of waste trainers. There's also like now sweat bands. You can wear while working out. which to be honest honest? I feel like that would make me very uncomfortable having something really tight wrapped around my core while I'm like sweating and exercising that affect your breathing as well exactly and I'm a dive more into the possible health concerns and dangers of waste training for a long period of time so renegade. We're going to get into that later so right now. We're going to dive into pretty much. The history of women squishing our organs for beauty. And that's what you're doing when people that you are. I know and so to begin. Waste trainers again. They're a type of modern day core set that squeezes says and shapes the body to clinch the waste giving the losing the illusion of bigger hips bigger by and breath. The first course dates dates back to the late. Fifteen hundreds according to fashion time dot org since then the original design has altered quite a bit but with the same adverse health effects facts and the same purpose That comes along with clinching one's waist so this has been since the beginning of time women trying to it almost seems like you're trying to remove a rib or something for a smaller ways kind of my opinion a little bit ridiculous Traditionally corsets were called a pair of bodies or stiffened bodices stiffened bodices are displayed portrait of Venetian females around the the fifteen thirty S. And during these times the bodices were usually a part of the dress so they weren't undergarments. How they are now? They were part of the dress and during the seventeenth nineteenth century the bodice became separated and became its own garment during this time. Cortez developed a more cone style shape which was usually constructed from two pieces of fabric. which were boned? These were commonly referred. Exactly what it sounds like people they who is usually whalebone it is it's manageable bones. which is crazy? 'cause it's like why would you WanNa harm your body in that way like. Oh my God i just seems like someone comfortable and Mike how you mentioned earlier. harbory for those of you who are fans of a little house books and you know I do the Book Review Podcast so the one thing that sticks out in my brain from the very first one little house in the big woods is there at a party and Ma is talking to friends and saying that when she got married when she was seventeen. Pau Charles could span dan his waist with her hands his hands wet because of the course. So yeah I mean just think about that who knows how big his hands were but still he should not be able to put your the hands around. Someone's waste list there. I don't know three actually right about that too. I think it was in like the Guinness Book of Records Bed. You know what I'm talking talking about. Somebody's waste is how you said like you can literally have your hands touching around her waist. I'm not sure she might have had a rib or two removed. Moved very possible very possible. Young it's insane now. So as I was saying these bodices were coming commonly referred to as days and were held together at the front with the busk and then towards the end of the seventeenth century. Women wore skirts jackets with the bodice under so as I stated before it was first part of the dress. And at this time it was the back then stiffen bodices. They used your actual measurement so it was tailored to your exact body type and your measurements and as we've progressed over centuries and decades They're obviously not measured exactly to your waist size or other body measurements right and so then then. In the eighteen eighty s there was a rising popularity of the pear-shaped core set which literally bent inwards around the stomach area. During Victorian time corsets could now be mass produced due to new technology and Matt in manufacturing and these previously had to be custom made again to one's ends measurements but during World War One fashion changed and woman could look more elegant without wearing corsets which is when the tight. Lacing had disappeared heard and it's shifted more towards the elastic. The elastic took its place. which provided more movement? So thank you to whoever came up with elastic Um and okay so I'm going to jump in here again. Sorry to interrupt you but women were these when they were pregnant and yeah Which I know that there are health issues issues fifteen to the eighteen hundreds so there were health issues of all kinds? But I just can't think I can't figure that's good squash and the baby sir. You know that women were pregnant. I I've heard of women wearing waste trainers for periods of time especially after having a baby Jessica Alba did mention that supposedly due to her constantly wearing a waist trainer she was able to attain her pre baby. The body which I've never had a kid but I'm not one hundred percent. Sure if you can really get your pre baby body back one hundred hundred percent right. Yeah it just doesn't seem realistic to me. But then you shouldn't do it in six weeks leaks. Celebrities try to do. I mean come on to see. I don't take care of your body and I know we have. We have a body issue image body image issues in this country. Absolutely I agree clearly. Women have been suffering being in this uncomfortable garment for centuries and it wasn't until the nineteen twenties dot the widely desired so silhouette figure are had changed. From an hourglass to thinner figure and then during this time girdles manufactured from plastic appeared. And then the idea behind these were to control the waist and hips without constricting. 'cause like I said even way back then. Women have always had an issue with these undergarments being extremely uncomfortable. Comfortable right so think. In the twenties and thirties dresses became straighter. Like the flapper style. So you wouldn't want you know you didn't have an hourglass figure in in a flapper style style dress and so that it was it again. It's still not suitable for every body type because not everyone. Is You know kind of straight up and down like that right Psalm And then the Gore the girdle was popular instead. Of course it through the nineteen forties. So that's kind of when the credits to step back girdles girdles came up and then throughout these years course. We're still seeing for erotic. Means but it had disappeared from popular fashion and then during the nineteen seventy s the punk movement brought corsets back and these were often worn as outerwear us. punks would wear old-fashioned lingerie which I've scene even to this day not even just punk punk stars. I've seen other people wear it as like a staple fashion statement. They wear the corset over like a big white team. So I mean it comes and goes the cassettes and many designers help to bring the back. The cassette as they became part of the mainstream again pop stars like Madonna and Cyndi Lauper can be seen wearing them during the eighties and today celebrities like as I mentioned before just Alba and others can be seen bringing back the corset and the waist training craze. So it's honestly this whole subject is baffling Julia little big. Just because I'm like like women really liked to suffer. Pain is beauty is pain. That's what they said so they say but I I don't know I get a good sweat pants. I agree with you Sarah. I live in F- leisure wear sweatpants. That is that's when I feel most confident honestly so I'm not too who sure how I feel about wearing a waste. Train even heard people wearing waste trainers even when they go to sleep. That is when your body needs to rest. Yeah you you really gotTa give your body arrests sometimes. Yeah I know people who sleep in bras which I mean. Also you're supposed to the muscles in your breast need a break for underwear some. That's that's a different podcast. So we're going to go on our first quick break and when we come back we're going to discuss more about waist training. Is it safe. Does it work. So we'll be right back. Hey there podcasts. Well listen to the golden in state media concepts relationship. PODCAST your one. Stop podcast for everything about relationships The it took place there and I were discussing. Waste raced training and the big craze around waste trainers and pretty much. A little bit of the health concerns that come along with it which we're GONNA dive even more into right now so I'm going to talk about a specific waist training brand. There's so many out there now but this one specifically typically works very closely with the Kardashian family and I mention them a lot during this podcast just because I feel that. This family has definitely heightened craze so again this company called Wasting Society works so I just the name Aced aced gang society. I mean yeah it's not I don't know it's either a really threatening gang or like the worst gang ever right. I don't know if I want. WanNa be part of this thing. I'm not trying to be part of the whisking society. I'm going to read to you guys. The claim that's on their website so and I quote Wasting Society High Quality Reshaping Waste Shaper is a unique latex material which attacks unwanted it fat and impurities within your body. We need to stop right there. Okay yeah can we. We need to enter up to you. Now is okay. I clearly don't have the research on this but that just doesn't sound accurate to me. Latex that attacks unwanted impurities is other thing that's what I say that's why I was like. There's no way this is true. You can't put this out to the public and expect people to believe this but you'd be surprised. People rarely eat this up and believe like sure we're always looking for a magic secure magic pill or something bridal is going to work to attack fat Yes oh just by that I end. I had to take a step back and be like. Is this real uh-huh as this company serious right now. Moving on our re-shaping line will strengthen your core all while improving your posture. The Thermo Genesis created within your body will allow your body to get rid of harsh toxins and impurities through perspiration so pretty much claiming You sweat and you're releasing all this toxic impurities out of your body due to the trainer making you sweat which again not not sure about that. I mean I know. Athletes where you know like sweatshirts with the hoods up and you know things like that especially like UFC trainer or fighters when they're they're trying to make weight but that's not healthy either guides definitely not so again. I don't want to be going throughout my day. Sweating for my poor all day like I. I already sweat a lot just me alone so I don't want to waste trying to help me even more taken it off at the end of the net late sweaty latex right not just smelly no thank you and again. I'm going to continue reading the claim that waste gang society. It's on the website while wearing a garment. our waste trainer. The tight compression will help to reduce food volume intake which will help achieve the healthier practice of smaller meals more often rather then three large meals a day all right. I have a lot to say about this one especially because I come from a fitness background. I am a certified personal trainer and that is completely false. It's healthy. It's good to eat three large meals a day. Your body needs so it just sounds to me that the purpose of this garment is suggest the press your appetite and that's not healthy either. So uh I mean I know there's been so many different various theories on this. You know you should eat breakfast. No you don't need to eat breakfast. Three large meals six meals throughout the day. I mean it's just a million different things but I don't know if you if you're wearing something that's constricting you so you don't feel hungry. You know that just sends up red flags for me absolutely. It just doesn't sound right. And there's other forms as other products now Being sold to the public about suppressing one's appetite like I saw one on that claims that a lollipop just by licking lollipop will suppress your appetite for like three to four hours. Okay the guy that's crazy to me especially young girls who are watching. You know these advertisements kind of message. Is that sending saying to the younger longer a population and unfortunately it's just a new attempt at what's been going on for. I mean centuries obviously with the course that being from the fifteen hundreds but even think of all the Diet pills things things that then caused so many problems. They caused birth defects. They caused you know women to have a massive side effects and had to be taken off the market. There's always something that's being touted as the next big thing that's going to make you have the perfect body but there's no such thing as the perfect body here is your perfect body exact. I love the I love that you said your body is a perfect body as long as you feel great you feel strong and healthy. That's all that matters. So yeah and I brought up wasting society diety because the following study that I'm going to share with these guys is from the tech insider which is a digital publication nation focused on examining the areas of tech science innovation and culture. Andy Tech insider actually did a study on waste gang society so I just wanted to first introduce the company to you all and I'm going to dive more into waist training. Do the experts support it. Do they believe that this product works. Is it safe although there good stuff so many. Many medical experts are warning consumers. Pretty much about the dangers possible side effects health problems associated with using a waste trainer for long periods and according to the tech tuck insider they asked a doctor Dietitian and certified personal trainer to weigh in on this social media trend so according waiting to Jim White he is a certified Dietitian as well as a gym owner amp personal personal trainer he explained to tech insider that most of the time wasters quick fixes and they work for only a short period of time but not for long lasting health. Which is pretty much what we've been saying throughout this entire podcast that obviously when you have a waste trainer on you at the moment it's obviously going to shrink your waist? Are they wearing it on. So that you've got the smoother lines or whatever but even shape where I'm like ooh goodness can't right so so I mean be careful people especially like I definitely would not recommend wearing this at the gym. While you're working now that Gotcha like you're I feel much oxygen as possible young. Oh speaking of passing out you know the the the one. The next the next quote says that shortness of breath nausea nausea fainting and bruising or just some of the common side effects but you know couches that have like the one arm on one end but nothing on the other end. They have like a back that goes about halfway down typically designed. They're called fainting couches. Did you know that I did not know that women in Corsets so often fainted that they needed somewhere to land. Wow so often couches. We're designed so that. When they get lightheaded they had some place to sort of gracefully draped themselves Omega? I learn something new every I did not know that a piece of furniture was invented. Let's not get rid of the course that let's just make a new that's insane. Wow Oh yeah let us know on the comments. You guys guys knew that already because I had no idea. There's literally furniture made for this type of thing. Wow so as Sarah mentioned there it can cause shortness of breath nausea all that other stuff that you don't want and it can also caused law or long-term use of the product could cause permanent Oregon and nerve damage edge. which makes sense because again? You're just squeezing all your organs and pushing everything into the center of your bigger court literally right the fat still there. It's just being squished into other places and the squishing things and also within thin tech insider. They asked Dr Gina. Sam who is a gastro entrance lodges and director of the Gastrointestinal Motilal senator at the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. That was long. I ordered for short. Dr Sam Dr Sam and and Jim White both stated that these waste trainers are only helpful for short term fix to create an illusion while you wear them but they both stay that they do not recommend for long periods and that there are serious side effects health side effects and even more dangerous interest that this company wasting society along with other ways. Training companies have told their followers dot Dave worked out in the waste trainer so again people are actually using this product in the gym. which is just again crazy to me? Yeah Yeah me too and I'm a leave everybody on that note. You think about that really quick. We're going to go on her second break and when we come back we're going to continue discussing talk about the dangers of waste training. This is your ultimate stop for everything. Sports the Golden state media concepts or podcast. Should I say more from the NFL Melby the NBA to 'em MMA. It's all in here. Golden state media concepts sports podcast. Listen the Sir Talk Talk Right before the break you were discussing about some of the side effects acts of waste training. And we're GONNA continue to dive deeper into the issue. So moving on Rebecca Harrington she is a a reporter for New York magazine. She tested out this theory. She wore the waste trainer to a spin class. How yeah I mean? Standing Upright Bright seems painful but bending over a bicycle riding a bike I know that's crazy and she tried the way trainer and she's stated that she felt wended wended just by walking to the gym while not even she hasn't even actually worked out yet. She's she said Yeah and she says she started spinning and she she felt very out of breath she had to loosen the core set and she eventually took off mid class because she says she literally just could not breathe and she felt like she. He's GonNa pass out so people again. I highly suggest do not wear this to a spin class Eric. That's right so not everyone is fan of these wastes. snatchers calling them waist. Gang Society recently settled actually a five million million dollar class action lawsuit after customer sued on the grounds that product did not produce any weight loss results as advertise so so have comments there. But I'm just GONNA keep them well right so I mean like I said be smart consumers humor. You know. Don't believe everything that's plastered everywhere it's advertisement. They're they're able to put anything on the advertisement to try and sell you. They want your money so and Sarah said earlier in the podcast. There's no quick fix to the perfect body so we need to to stop looking for it and you know advertisers target. Ads are basically just emotional manipulation. They target all the things that you know. All your weak points and I'm not saying that in a derogatory way but you know you you know you don't WanNa look fat. You want to look like this person. You don't WanNa look like this. You know they target those socially constructed ideas now beauty. You're absolutely right and Dr Sam who was in the tech insider study case explains the only way companies can actually tell people that these products actually work is by conducting a randomized controlled study. So that's literally the only way they can actually advertised to the public. Click you know. We collected the these random individuals tested out the theory and it works but unfortunately she says there are no studies of this kind so these waves training companies should not be saying or falsely advertising. It's going to help shrink your ways. It's GONNA remove impurities out of your body it's going to help you drop. All of that stuff is not true. I just have to clear the air there. It's not true and based on other expert opinions waste trainers again. They can't change the shape of your body temporarily but do do not recommend for long term use and these claims about these products improving posture strengthening. Your core in all the the other stuff that they claim are all false. So here I I'm going to come in from my fitness background. So how exactly can shrink your waist. This is the truth. Just a healthy nutritious diet paired with regular exercise there is no shortcut. You're I just mean crush again. I'm sorry I wish it could be just as easy as drinking macho putting on a waste trainer all that other a magic stuff that is out there but it's not true people only other thing is you know I mentioned earlier. Everyone's body type is different so no matter better. Sometimes no matter how much you diet and exercise you could be really really healthy. But you're not gonNa have what you think of maybe as the ideal body types exactly on tv you could be short. We know if nothing. You're probably not going to have the same body type of someone who was six weeks old so it has there's body types the so how much goes into a besides like your bone structure and all that other stuff and really if your goal is to drop way or fat the most important. Ah Thing is making sure you're in a caloric deficit so my simplistic answer of what it means to be in a cholera deficit diet. It is just making sure that you're moving more eating less so making sure that the amount of calories you're consuming as less than Dan are sorry. Yeah less than what you are burning so real world example meeting birthday cake for breakfast while sitting at my computer probably not gonNA causing causing a caloric deficit cheat meal. We're going to let that one slide. She me on leftover kid gets even like breakfast up sh right. You're like it was a good breakfast peanut butter. That's healthy protein right but yeah you guys. I'm sorry that's just the truth. Nutritious healthy diet paired with regular exercise you're gonNA live long healthy happy lives that way so ditch the waste. I trainer bashes my opinion. You can still wear if you want. But that's just what I believe and I can to conclude in providing you know all everything that's been said about waist training companies. I think the short answer to does it work. Is it safe. I think the short answer is no it's there's no proof out there that waste trainers trainers actually help users lose weight or reshape their bodies. So I'm sorry we're on if you want you know if you're if you're going this I don't even know and Rosemary Clooney in White Christmas other hourglass figure if that's what you're dressing up as where she where waste trainer but it's not not gonna work for long-term right so please don't wear it to sleep. Don't wear to the gym. I mean let your body rest let your body breathe. It's like it's fine not we don't all need to have a nineteen to twenty one inch waist. Bright like just is not doable for everybody making Barbie more realistic. You don't need to drive. Exactly they're making Barbie more realistic than you already know. Times are changing so on on that. No we're going to end the show here today and thank you Sir for joining me on this conversation about waist training thank you and unless go have some more birthday cake.
