Posting about yesterday. And i think that this bears up after the study the arc of these disturbances as riots. That have taken place ever since memorial day weekend very sadly Is that when. Republicans are trump supporters or folks do not adhere to the establishment. Leftist line are out and about. They get attacked there. They get attacked in washington. This is the third time we've had these attacks. There was the night that the president nominated amy coney barrett and the folks who left from that on the south lawn of the white house just trying to get back to their house hotels. They were town then. We had the big trump rally shortly after the election or shortly before whenever that was and folks who lingered late in downtown dc. Where i lived for eleven years. Love it very much They were attacked by antifa people. They were attacked by Other thugs of the left. So it is your. It is your position. I just wanna bring richard in. It's your position that the vast majority if not all of the violence over the last year. But let's focus on last night. It really comes from the left peaceful. Protesters allegedly peaceful protesters on the right including the proud boys. Is that your position. I i really don't know about the national media about a gosh darn. They told me the sun rises over the michigan. I wouldn't believe you will. i'm context. I understand the surnames being thrown around. But i don't know that they were there and just because the national media says it doesn't mean okay. Let's go to rene this. Look i want to go to richard boykin. I want to engage everybody. And then we'll go back to you for a second helping. Go ahead richard your reaction on what happened specifically last night in the streets and as long as a large portion of americans feel that this election might have been stolen. Are we likely to see this type of demonstrations and that bruce into violence in the country gaza sure. Hope not Bruce cy look you know. The election results are what they are. And obviously the supreme court has declined to take this case that texas broad. I mean the theory about once they brought it was kinda weird but The election is going to be certified through the electoral college tomorrow. and joe biden will be declared the winner of this election. Now it is my hope that we can all come together. Democrats republicans independence all of us as we fight this pandemic. That's in front of us. Covert nineteen. i mean. Oh we need everybody onboard to fight this. Well can comply with come back. I'm going to talk about the unity that you're hoping for with kelvin and how much of that spills over to the other side of the american populace. I've got a four one. Eight hundred seventy three eight hundred eighty nine from coast to coast in evanston illinois. This is bruce dumont on beyond the beltway for some news. About their opinion he believed the news. Should give you the facts without bias. So you can form your own. We believe in news not talk backs not opinions. Snooze nation is on every night at seven pm on wgn america to give you the information you need every one calls it. The noise will actually deliver on it. Seven nights a week in primetime. Find your local channel by going to delhi. America dot com then newsnation. It's your news your nation when beyond the beltway this. I thank you very much for joining us this. Cb one eight hundred seventy three eighty two I want to go back to you. rosanna just to Make your point. Because i said in response to your first question. You're going to give be chapter and verse as you see what happened the election but let me begin by asking the question this way. Do you believe that the president would need to flip the election in four states in order for the numbers to change in his favor. You know what. Brazil a i. I would have to say this. I've never heard or met. Richard before a he has such a calming voice. That is we have to discuss anything with the other side. He ought to be the lead. 'cause he sounds like such a statesman and his calming effect. Well he's also a minister and so about the election. You know what. I this is my feeling i just read. Something just came out where it said that Kemp was given money by the shaikh homs and he bought all this. You know it's just every single minute. Every single our new information is coming out. So i i have no idea what's going to happen What is nobody but here. But here's my question. I wanna ask him on the level of just common sense The president if any one of these four states decides to flip and go and go for joe biden or go for donald trump all all all four of more three of the four have to go for donald trump. Do you think that's likely with again the things that you're the things that you're hearing or reading or believing and that's the most important thing they are coming from sources that you believe in the sources that you believe in are not necessarily most likely not the sources that chris roebling might agree with or or richard boykin or many people listening to the program. This evening so my question is how do you know who's telling the truth and in this particular case doesn't it have to be one hundred percent That you've been lied to for you to flip your opinion and say the joe biden is the legitimate president. Elect i am. I'll tell you who i'm following. I'm following sydney powell and watching her lead and what. She's doing the statements. She's coming out with. Are you disappointed that she his failed to provide hard evidence that has been reviewed by a judge. Were a judge agrees with her. That hasn't happened anywhere. Well you know there again. There's so many facets to this it's almost like a diamond there's so many facets to it and they're trying to attack the mall It's it's a wait and see me. But i give her credibility and i don't care how they come up with. I want every legal vote. Vote-counting want to have it but i want every legal okay. Let's go to chris roebling. I think chris would agree with that. You want every legal. Vote count as well. But according to some reports up to seventy percent of republicans who have been surveyed on this believe That that something was stolen. I mean you you hang around with republicans all the time. You're a republican. Where do you come down on on on. What's happening in the country into the party right now. Well i think this is the most objectionable and the and the most suspect most regular election in my life and i'd like to remind the audience. I was commissioner of elections right city of chicago in the early nineteen nineties as a republican right republican member of a three person panel so i had a background in election right administration and in fact i oppose sequoia which is predecessor of one of these forbes. It's ancient history. But i can tell you that. I don't like any of the information. I've received about how the election was conducted in these states. I also don't like the quality of lawyering that the president's ad and i don't think they've had any kind of litigation communications and then you mentioned the thing about sydney politics. She has shown up with a lot of evidence. But i understand what you're saying about the judge And that gets back to the lawyering. I i would also say that I think that joe biden has an enormous stake in a complete airing of everything that the trump people have come up with. And and i think that's how by gets to a statue beyond partisan pugilists. I think if he were to embrace these issues and say look. Let's run this down. Let's see what happened. Just rosanno saying if he's the winner. He's the winner. And and i'm going to absolutely play for the guy in wishing but very best But right now. I just think that we're listening to a media. That was wrong about russia. they were wrong about impeachment. They were wrong. About joe biden son. They were wrong about joe biden and his involvement with his son. You know they're just members of the democratic party who happened to work for the fourth estate. And i don't i don't think they are also i i really i will. I will say that. There are many Partisans in the media but many of those partisans in the media they would say to. They would say i am doing to this story what i would do any other story. I am looking at the evidence. I'm looking for some example of a judge to independently review the evidence and basically say There's something here that stinks. And they haven't found that they have not found it in four states with that they haven't found. I mean i think there are judges. Who have gone. Beyond what has been presented in dismissing this. Or that case. But i for instance. The supreme court didn't say there was no evidence. The supreme court brought out standing. Which is an absolute faucet. The judges us to turn on litigation or turn it off it's it's an absolutely impenetrable doctrine of the law and that means it's arbitrary and the judges can use it. The justice can use it to deflect something they don't wanna see. I wanna go. I think we're going to see very we're going to see an enormous amount of lawyering in the next ten days two weeks. I think the chances of trump pulling this out are now about i. One but aren't aren't. We aren't going to know that tomorrow when when the electoral college together aren't going to know that the electoral college net. But yes richard said that you know biden will be elected biden will be actu- that the actual investiture of the presidency takes place. I want i want to ask one more one more question to you. Chris and i definitely want to go back to richard to get his response is we haven't heard much from him in this for segments. My question to you is what would happen to the country. The country if for some reason joe biden didn't take that oath on the twentieth and donald trump would remain. What what what would be happening in the streets. What would be happening to our democracy. What would be happening to america if were to happen. If it's based on the evidence in the law it then it strengthens our democracy if if it were to be based time do you think. Do you think there's enough time and enough money to to to explain this this decision that that. You're hoping for or bro. roseanne is hoping for. Do you think there's enough time to convince enough americans that they will just say you know the election is over and you know what all those people that were celebrating the you know. There's the eighty million people who voted for joe biden. They're just going to lick their hands. And and and go back and not saying anything about it going to be riots. I agree with if if for whatever reason biden is not taking office on the twentieth. Okay they're gonna be riots and we already know that from what we saw on memorial day rise on the fourth of july. I think they're going to be the case richard. They're going to riot. Chris chris. chris. Roebling chris roebling please. You know how the show goes. We've got to let the democrats speak we. No no no. I was asking richard if i was going to go to the question. I want to make sure that richard is weighing in and getting his affair. Piece of time. Here richard first of all. Do you agree that if this situation arose that i have just described there probably would be demonstrations that would turn into riots in many american cities. No question about it. Yes okay there. Total anarchy in the streets. Okay so is there any Do you would this be in any way. Viewed as a positive for president elect by or president biden after january twentieth. If that were to happen is there any way that he makes a political gain out of that. But i i can't see this election being overturned. I think the supreme court sent that signal a really was the last option for president trump and his team. The supreme court Quite frankly they denied they demerged. They didn't take the case. And so you know. The electoral college is going to confirm the results. Tomorrow and Joe biden expect will be taken the oath of office on january twentieth. He has a lot of things to deal with. We need republicans. We need a president trump to come forward and accept the results of the election. We need him to participate in a real cooperative manner in terms of the transition. Look we're fighting this pandemic there. So many millions of americans who lost their jobs of they've lost hope We got a little hope because we got the vaccine again to to to begin the process and we hope to have one hundred million people vaccinated by the end of march but quite frankly Until we have widespread vaccination Then maybe we can get back to some sense of normalcy. But it's going to take everybody. It's gonna take republicans democrats and independents working together to move this country forward. We can do it Democracy is a great thing. And i respect people's rights approached us. Nobody should be beaten. Because they're protesting a john. Lewis is the prime example of someone on the edmund pettus bridge who was beaten just for protesting. We shouldn't have that we move beyond that time. Respect people's right to protest but we gotta move on and we gotta tackle the big issues facing our country. We've got a pause. One eight hundred seven two three eight eighty two hundred nine from coast to coast and border to border. Good discussion this evening. We're gonna switch the different topic when we come back with our guests. I'm bruce dumont. Thanks for joining us tonight. Happy holidays opinions are everywhere when you watch the news. But what about your opinion. Why can't you just get the facts to decide for yourself. Newsnation has on every night at seven pm on. Wgn america unlikely newscast in primetime. That doesn't tell you what to think. Seven nights a week. Newsnation will deliver you. News talk facts not opinions. Find your local channel by going to wgn america com. It's your news your nation Ah roussillon back. Thanks very much for joining this evening. let's go. Let's take a to let each of our guests introduce themselves and we'll begin with chris. Roving chris. everybody. I'm chris roebling and It's been a great privilege to be on the for many years back to the mid-nineteen eighties And with my studio appearance up in evanston i have now been basically every spot but bruce's broadcast left very good roseanne alito. Go ahead tell us everybody Who you are hi. My name's peligro born and raised in chicago. I now am in springfield illinois. But i've been on the immigration same. I'd say since two thousand three I was one of the original minutemen on the zona. Mexico border in two thousand five. I was invited to testify on illegal immigration before congress in two thousand seven. So when i want to go to sleep i closed my eyes and count illegal aliens jumping over the fence. Okay and i should mention as i do whenever you're on you're a person that's been on this program for many many time at least at least a couple of decades and you were. You are a true believer in an issue that you lived long enough to see someone including the president of the united states. Take your issue seriously. And i want to talk more about whether or not you give them. What grade do you give them after You know almost eight. F almost four years but That's you. You were a absolute true believer and and i always appreciate people who stand by their positions in and lived to see some success. Richard boykin also joins us Richard we go back at least a couple of decades as well tell everybody a little bit about your background. And what brings you here this evening. Thank you very much. Bruce and i want to thank my fellow panelists as well. I spent thirteen years in washington. Working for three members of congress. Democratic members of congress proud of data spent the four years on the county board of commissioners. I'm an attorney. Spent thirteen years at barnes and thornburg. Now have my own law firm and consulting firm british builders and i'm proud to be a guest On your shoulders than that. I think does tremendous work across the country. I want to say happy holidays to one out there. Who who are listening tonight. Okay well we thank you very much I want to switch gears and talk about another issue. That got quite a bit of a press this week and that is There is a growing number of people within the civil rights movement And i want to expand the civil rights bullet including the black lives matter movement. That are not happy with the complexion of joe biden's cabinet thus far. What is your take on that your reaction to that richard. A thank you very much. I look i think that Joe biden and kamala harris. The vice president are doing a tremendous job in terms of making this cabinet The most diverse cabinet In the united states the presidency history of quite frankly marcia fudge a democrat congresswoman from ohio has been nominated to be the secretary of hud Secretary of defense. A lloyd austin and african american janet yellen at treasury. I mean we have women. We have African americans all throughout their number post to be filled a steel and so i expect that we'll have a pretty diverse Cabinet and i'm very what do you say what do you. What do you say to the those on the left in those in the black lives matter movement who were already chirping up right now making a news for themselves by suggesting that it's not it's not black enough for it's not minority enough well look You know they're always going to be people who think that there needs to be more and You know we have to to be sensitive to their their concerns but Quite frankly It's joe biden's of pick In terms of the cabinet and he wants to work with. And i have confidence that he's gonna pick the right people and that he's gonna pick people who are from diverse backgrounds in who understand what what we need to move the country forward to make sure that we put people back to work to make sure that we worked together across party lines and partisanship and that sort of thing. We got to put this behind. Let's bring this country together. Chris worldly we gotta move okay. How successful is it. That i want to just kind of follow the unity issue. How unifying are the people that have been nominated vest far for the cabinet positions or senior white house positions. Chris roebling is there a stinker in there or stinkers in their if they are angering the left then they're probably reasonable people or at least less unreasonable. They are I i don't think that there are any stinkers in there. I am very proud about joe biden and his pick for defense secretary. I think that's historic. I think that the military has been one of the great institutions for merit advancement. And one of the great. Is that you you know. Respond to people about everybody. In america can succeed. Take a look at the amazing military that we've got hollow bob the waiver about the waiver. I mean some people are concerned. A surprising number of democrats In in they have said that. We're not going to support this position because we do not believe. There's going to be enough separation between lloyd General general as a general and general as a retired general. They need more space. I think that's i you know when you hear folks like that. That have a long history with presidential appointments. I was physically in the room. When carter's nominee for cia withdrew and there were guests across the entire senate caucus irri. So i've i've been around things. I know somebody on the The waiver issue saying oh will the president has what they're basically saying is joe biden. Didn't think this through enough. And i don't think that's helpful for them or for biden. If we have to see that you have senator have senator tammy duckworth Who was a rumored to be the secretary of defense. Also for being rumored to be the vice presidential pick Maybe she's just sour grapes but she's she's not gonna vote for the waiver and a lot of other democrats. Let me ask you rosanna. this is looking beyond the areas where you normally look but The first of all you believe that the president should get who he wants to be in his cabinet. Well this is the way. Feel about whoever he picks. You know the analogy of if i had brain surgery. I don't care if that doctor is black. White hispanic or asian. I want the best rain surgeon. And as i look These past months is to what has happened in chicago. What has happened in illinois with our governor. What has happened in michigan. When i see leaders say you must wear a mask and then they go to parties without masks. And do as i say but not as extremely. Excuse me rosanna is to. This is a little off topic. Let me go back to my question to you is. Does it bother you that if the new defense secretary does not have the the seven year waiver period i believe it's a seven year waiver period because some people in america both republicans and democrats do not like the idea of someone coming out of the military going in to run the defense department because they feel that they should be civilian run and the fact that he's been civilian for just a couple of years. it doesn't pass muster. I mean the same issue with the general mattis. I mean he had to go through it. So does it bother you. That he's too close to the military of he's running the defense department. Are you speaking to me. I asked you a question. You gave me completely non sequitur and so i want to go back to the birth of my point is i want the best person for that position. So he could be his you know and that that is the person than it is but not who is owed a favor her the position who is the best leader for this country. Because there's a great voice so the fact of the homeland security secretary being described as the first hispanic to bed agency. That really doesn't mean anything to you. As long as that designated person is the best for the job. That's correct okay. I wanna go onto something else. A- mattias we're talking about the issue of And i want to go to to to you richard Bill barr the attorney. General has taken quite a bit of a beating by By the left does he get any credit for a at least apparently standing up to the president and giving the president bad news which may cost him his job. Look i think bill barr has been a good attorney. General i think he's been fair He said that he didn't see You know the irregularities to the degree it President trump and others suggested regarding the election. Of course then infuriated the president but The attorney general is a position that You know you have to go with the law and you have to represent the people. You're not there to represent the president of per se your air to represent the american people and i think that's what bill barr has done as attorney general and so he's had a distinguished career he's for number of presidents number of administrations and. I'm proud of the work that he's been able to account chris Chris rumbling up. is the president Being an ingrate by the way. He's publicly ridiculing. Bill barr while his public ridicule of people that he wants. Promoted is really one of his least attractive. Right affects okay however having having said that You know. I'm disappointed with bar because we never got anything out of durham. We didn't get any closure out of durham yet and Durham has been made a special prosecutor. And that's good and we need a special prosecutor for joe biden's son. Because joe biden has lied continuously to the american people and his son lied and son et cetera et cetera. And that cannot be investigated by a job and we will let you continue your etcetera etcetera about Joe biden when we back when we come back bruce dumont from coast to coast and border to motor happy hanukkah to all of our jewish friends as to be with you did seething back shortly dumont back. Thanks w with us on beyond the beltway. Ireland gould and pam role are joining us from different parts of the country. This evening on our beyond the beltway radio. Tv internet the network. And i have you on. It's also good to hear some big band christmas music around this time of the year. Let's head do. Paul thing to us in racine wisconsin online line. One he wants to weigh in with a question or comment. Go ahead paul. Well first of all to everybody on the show tonight. Merry christmas merry christmas. Happy holidays but okay Miracle i just. I just it. It is time to Happy hanukkah as well richard. I want to respond directly to your your call for unity. I am a trump supporter and I find it ironic. Now that you know it looks like joe biden is going to take over the presidency After four years of you know just constant trying to overturn the election of twenty sixteen And then particularly with the comments of the michigan representative from either yesterday or the day prior and afc's comments from a couple of weeks ago about the trump picket. So they can't you expect me. And and the republicans all the sudden. Have this by moment. I think incredibly disingenuous on your part after what your party tried to do to the president trump Particularly in this last year of this pandemic for you all son to say well now. Let's all come together because a democrat running the show. I just think that's and i'm not even gonna put in what i think happened in this election. But let me let me that richard. Go ahead you're on or first. Let me thank you for calling in and for listening and for being actively engaged in on courage you to stay engaged in the process by why i did not agree with a lot of the stuff that went on the last four years in terms of investigations of president trump and china over during the election and that sort of thing and us or did hillary clinton and the election But i didn't agree with that and so the reality of it is that as a democrat. I can disagree with off some of the things that not leaders of the party. Do i can disagree with that Sometimes you get criticized for it but it's okay. 'cause i'm a big boy got big shoulders. I can handle that. But what we richard. If i if i get rich effect if i could just which if i could just interject for a moment because Paul may not know. And i say may and and others listening around the country. A may not know as you've just described yourself. you are a moderate to some would say conservative democrat. You frankly you have lost an election because you're not radical enough so i put that in context as to who you are And and paul. I think i would agree with your assessment. Totally that those on the left and those in the media that that for for all the last three and a half years were beating up on donald trump. No matter what he did. There wasn't anything that the man could do right. And now we are expected to turn the other cheek and to accept You know just to go quietly away. Those days are over. i think. Unfortunately i think we're going to be into several. Maybe a couple of decades of this back and forth between elections because of the way in which democrats mostly democrats. I'm independence but mostly democrats and the news. Media treated donald trump. They made things different. It used to be that you'd lose it election. The other side would wash their hands. They'd be furious for a couple of months and then they would go back to being quiet and preparing for the next election. That didn't happen. People were out for the juggler. The president's juggler from day one. And now we're we're expected those seventy four million people who voted for donald trump. Were expected to just go by the wayside and shut our mouths. That's not going to happen. That's what my first question tonight. was i mean. the demonstration. the turned violent last night We go to see a lot more of that in this country that allegedly is united when in reality it isn't united. We don't live in the united states of america at least a political sense. The country is divided. What i'm saying bruce's i don't expect people to be quiet and disco quietly with the results. Look there's an election coming up in georgia that's going to be pivotal. A who's going to run the senate. And i mean obviously if you got the senate run by republicans. The house spent democrats the president. Whoever you know. Joe biden has to work with the senate and so the reality of it is that the energy of from this election You know. I hope that people staying gauged and stay involved in the process but there's a way to do it constructive. Let's go back to when paul to respond. We always want to give the callers. The last word go ahead paul. Paul has gone okay. Well we're going to give them the last word. But i guess you already had it. Let's go to genie. And she is or janine rather and she is listening in knoxville tennessee. Go ahead tennessee. You're on the air thank you. It's good to hear talk to you. I get to see you almost every week. Thank you very much. so what. I'm concerned about is For example Eh people voted this time. We pretty much know that. I'm concerned that that is going to continue. And i believe it needs to stop and any other fraud that went on during this election needs to be dealt with and i wanna see i wanna know that. The individuals who committed fraud are prosecuted crystal a caller. I just want to say that it was a very good night. for republicans. There were electricity. Chrissy in a lot of new places and i think everybody on the republican side of the i under i understand richard saying and where possible we gotta work with the new president but republicans everywhere need to get involved with election administration and make this a national issue just like the caller said bruce. Thank you very much and i would just underscore that by saying between now when everyone is exercised at least on the trump side and republican side. This is a great time to follow through at the state level at the national level to correct all these mistakes that we believe happened in our hearts and use that as a rallying point at the state level and at the national level to get ready for the two thousand or twenty eighteen congressional elections and make that the big issue of twenty when he thanks very much back shortly from chicago. I guess that's the new word to be used as soon cast and In this hour we're gonna be talking about the problems of the restaurant business and again. If you've heard briefly the story stay with us. Because there's a lot of intricacies of that i think you should know and and and the ripple effect of this is pretty significant Joining us in this hour. We have fill the tel. Fill the tell the longtime restaurant critic of the chicago tribune phil. Nice debbie with us this evening and also be joined by ray lopez ray lopez is the ultimate democratic commitment of fifteenth ward in. Chicago is a frequent guest on this program and many of the constituents of his ward are those workers not necessarily the owners restaurants but those who work in the kitchen in the in the bussing service Many of them reside in in raise ward as well as obviously a lot of restaurant tours as well but that's part of the ripple effect when you're talking about the problem of the restaurant business a little bit later on we're going to be joined by a gentleman from california and he feels that The the dictates of governor gavin newsom are much and he is rejecting an and failing to respond and adhere to the rules of the state of california which is indoor dining. Should be shut. That's also the case In the chicago area. It's also the case effective tomorrow morning in new york city shutting down all indoor dining So i want to begin with you. based on all the people that you deal with on a on a regular basis of phil How devastating is this and and and what what forms of devastation have you been seeing over the last several months since we did this first interview. Many months ago It's it's an ongoing tragedy Restaurants are closing left and right people are being furloughed left and right restaurants have very little confidence that they can withstand the winter in in the restaurant cycle. January february march are the worst we Months for the restaurant industry has there are very many customers. Usually they build up to this with holiday parties and a big summer and all that was taken away from so they are they. Have they have very little unreserved. Because that's just the way the cycle works and someone described it as they would the would the vaccines coming out. Now they know where the aces and they don't think they have enough water to get there now. These restaurant tours. They dealing with Recommendations from the cdc so they're dealing at the federal level but each individual state also has their own independent Determinations and some governors and some mayors are more strict than others so If they're looking for someone to blame. I blaming everybody or are they blaming of the federal response Less likely or more likely than their local municipal and state a dictates. What i'm hearing mostly from restaurateurs is the frustration of what they perceived to be an an unfair application of the rules A once jeff recently toured the food court at a mall and took pictures of all the people unmasked sitting close together and he can open his dining room and another story that broke or early late. This week was the revelation that some people knew in some people didn't nat restaurants and bars inside o'hare and midway airport are allowed to be open at all these people congregating. There's no mechanism at the state. Level for determining which restaurants can be safety and which cannot many restaurants have spent thousands of dollars investing in air filtration systems and special dividers to keep people separate an equipment. Kyw's and they've been told none of that matters. But you can go to costco with one hundred forty four more people at the same time and that's okay and then also parody that unfairness really what gets them. We should also mention in chicago A a member of the chicago city council owns a very popular restaurant He was singled out this past week. because he was leading some regular customers into his indoor dining establishment and He was He was caught and fined and mayor. Lightfoot became very Furious with them and yet the two of them are usually politically Simpatico of each other a one alderman who is not simpatico. The mayor of chicago is ray lopez. Who joins us now and ray. My question to you is At the beginning of the discussion. I mentioned the difference between those that own restaurants and those that have to work in restaurants and obviously they are part of the ripple effect that is affected by any dictate that a governor a senator of the cdc that senator but governor or mayor. The cdc comes up with so tell us a little bit more about the devastation in your ward as it relates to Many hispanic workers that That are listening to our broadcast from coast to coast tonight. Good evening to you. Fell in all of your viewers. Once again we're seeing this does incongruent lodged coming down from all levels of government impacting communities throughout the entire hitting hardest those essential workers at up to work in restaurants show up to be busboys and hotels and things of that nature. Don't know which end is up at this point ten months into this pandemic and we've seen the impact. It's had on our communities with double digit positivity rates the fear in the creation of now the underground markets where since they don't have restaurants go dining. They're actually now having lake version of restaurants on the streets and open air markets where they're selling tacos food and whatnot without a license without sanitation. Because there's nowhere else to go in the needs and make some money in all of that is fighting against the perceived effort to try and get a hold of the corona virus note. It's very dangerous. And if we don't all get on the same page there will be no end in sight soon too so that we can start opening up and getting our lives back to normal but again as as far as how who their most upset with And again in chicago you know they. They have a mayor who acts precipitously We have a governor who some would say drags his feet and then then act precipitously and we certainly have those who criticized the ppp program at the federal level. So the the people who are at the lower rung of the restaurant industry that you're about. I mean who. Who are they pissed off with. So you know. I'll be perfectly frank. No my residents people are upset with every level of government right. They think that enough of us are on the same page and one hundred percent correct. You said it today. You said it perfectly. You've got a a mayor in chicago. Does one thing. A governor says something else in oftentimes. They are in a match polling on each other while simultaneously trying to throw up their anger and frustration at the federal level. And that is a story that has repeated itself from coast to coast throughout this country. All while people's lives are in jeopardy people's businesses are in jeopardy. I think phil. Correct me. If i'm wrong. We have almost twenty one thousand restaurants. There are expected to close because of covid nineteen across country eyebrows alone and saved possibly make never open again. If i saw my numbers right now these are people who put their blood sweat and tears into becoming entrepreneurs becoming business owners were open to buying the american dream and because of the lack of coordination by politicians too complacent with their own guarantee. Everybody's what consistent decisions we're gonna. We're gonna stop here. And we're going to bring into our conversation to continue conversation with the lopez and fill of the tell here in chicago. We're going to bring in day foles. Who joins us from agoura hills california. Dave can hear us. Okay out in california. Yeah hey you loud and clear man terrific. You are the owner of cronies which has several locations in southern california. And you like everyone else in that. Business is trying to stay afloat and by the way just in this past year over one hundred and ten thousand restaurants have gone out of business that represents about seventeen percent of the restaurants in the united states. And you said by. Golly i'm not gonna i'm not gonna be in the next statistic that comes out so tell us a tell us what you have been doing and tell us How difficult the decisions by governor newsom have been on you and That you chose to fight back against the governor gives us that story all right. Well thanks for having me on. And and here's what's going on here in southern california about I don't know sixteen days ago or fourteen days sixteen days ago. La county Set of a new rule where it didn't let any restaurants have outdoor dining. I'm not talking about indoor dining. I'm talking about outdoor dining in the french open air and and In other counties which were adjacent to us which my other restaurants are in that county were allowed to continue their outdoor dining and and so i thought it was very unfair and I said no. We are not my partners. And i discussed this and we said no. We're not gonna close down. We're going to continue doing outdoor business. We're gonna follow the same standards. That the cdc has recommended in the county is recommended for health. In regards to distancing and all those other things and we stayed open and and a george actually last week overturn that and he said you know that the county of los angeles stepped its reach and There's there's there was nothing There was no merit to their to their decision to close down restaurants. There is no. The judge gave the county they said. Show me some evidence that outdoor is a threat to to to receive colbert and they couldn't come up with it so he turned it over. By by that time governor newsom goodness across the whole state he made five regions and in. I am in the southern california region. And all of my stores now are supposed to be Take out or delivery. Only and that just doesn't work for us but none but no indoor one just clarify indoor You can't do indoor either. You could not do indoor here For the past probably five months. We haven't done indoor okay. The only thing was outdoor and the governor ranted and raved and said everybody go outside and in in all cities were giving special use permits temporary permits for outdoor dining even in parking spaces in. We've invested in our sores so much money on on canopies rental heaters the propane the k. Rails at a fencing Tables we have much to how much how much. How much do those things cost. I mean the let's just talk about the f- the flame wars. How much does that cost. And you have to buy them or do you rent them at first we were renting them but then we decided to buy ramen if you could find one. You're very lucky much very high demand. So you're paying about two hundred bucks hundred seventy five to two hundred dollars. What about the ten as you can find him on sale. What about the tents. The what one of our stores was paying. I think seventy five to eight thousand dollars a month for this rental and we had five stores the one that we gore The landlord actually a picked up that bill and they were renting out canopies for us but i'm talking about these canopies. You would see at a wedding. I mean some of the one of our restaurant has a canopy. That is forty by eighty. It was huge and You rent them. But that's the only way you can operate your business. It's crazy you're paying for this giant canopy but you're not using your inside of your relative combat to. I want to come back to fill the tel aviv. Chicago tribune joins us here. Fill up. How common is that story with the restaurant tours that you speak about they also Complaining about the cost of investing all these items for outdoor dining when You know we're we're soon going to be in the twenty degree ranger in chicago. I talked to. I spoke to a couple of russia chores and they were talking about reading tense sufficient to cover their outdoor patios in the back of three months. Rachel twenty thousand dollars and they can barely make. That's they'd be to fill it as much as they can and would barely break even in the city of chicago. You can't really do it but you're not. It's not really a code to use propane heaters. It's supposed to be all electric now also also restaurants from the city centre the more. You're gonna get away with it because the inspectors have bigger fish to fry. But if you're not if you're in the city center if you're in the loop if you're in river north you put up a tent and you put propane in their inspectors are going to get there pretty quick and they're gonna make you stop that forced air you can do electric and but here's chicago. It's it's december eleventh thirteenth. Excuse me this point is about to become moot there. There's not enough going to get you to spit sit outside and in sub twenty degree weather and is there On the issue of of donald the the inspectors showing up What is what is the current rule about indoor indoor dining is rebutting at the moment correct in chicago but but not at st the stadium throughout the state of illinois so once upon a time though once upon a time they were trying to ask a restaurant tour to survive on what twenty percent twenty five percent of their their audience. Yes right bill. Sorry a day was the same thing. California you're dealing with reducing percentages of trying to operate will for a few weeks or first of all when this whole thing started. We were closed for We were closed for How long was it about to order. That might have been an order right. And that accepted that. We didn't know about the virus and then they let us back in with like half Occupancy and then they kicked us outside again and actually in california. The weather's little nicer. It's actually very doable in the heaters for where we are in the cities we are. We just we have. The canopus canopies can't put walls on them right so getting back to your point about. You can't use propane you're absolutely correct. They has to be open walls at least two walls. I wanna go back. I want to go back to ray. Lopez ray is a is an alderman in the city of chicago. He's not closely tied with the mayor. But my question to you ray. Is someone who. I'm sure gets the complaints from the restaurant tours in your neighborhood and maybe pick them up elsewhere Who is making the decision for the city of chicago. Who comes up with an idea that we think a restaurant tour can operate on twenty percent when when they may have no clue at all As to that that twenty percent. Maybe totally irresponsible request. So you know in the city of chicago bruce. We've seen where the departments are being made. The decisions are being made behind closed doors between the mayor and the public health department. We've seen that at the state level. Where the legislatures wall and making some of these decisions. I think indeed net brought many of the states throughout this country where it's all by executive order and they usually change every thirty days. That's about how long you can have an executive or legal. And that's where i think. A lot of this area is because these orders never had any public just how to get from point a to point. B we understand it the first two months and they're all scrambling to figure out what happened but to be quite honest. Politicians piddled away their opportunity. Also murder figure out what the wintertime plan was going to be. We know winner is the hardest time for restaurants as bill. Said as as dade knows starring. After christmas you expect your holiday season to carry over into the first three months where you actually have some cash witty where we walked student where you don't have that cash validity. You'd take away that reserve night asking people to make it on their own without any kind of cushion but nadia turn people again no indoors. No no outdoors in some state right in chicago do outdoors. But you've got gotta have your your tent canopies wall off because it's gonna beat rush degrees outreach. To the argument many restaurants. Why are we going outside in a four square box and could just go inside so the fourth where box. Exactly one of our cities aren't doing is that were not willing grants funds to actually help our businesses in your heart surviving works through voted as opposed to just continuing victimization. Isd endemic isn't there. Isn't there in chicago and again fill. You may know this array may know this that there's almost two hundred and fifty million dollars left the in the federal pot for whether it's p. p. e. or keeping in restaurants are going fill of. You heard that figure that there's money that just hasn't been to disseminate digit three hundred. What's the what's the number three hundred nine hundred million and that's that's those are federal dollars. Correct part of the key areas accurate. Yes okay well. The question is why hasn't that money been spent ray. I'm gonna come back to you. Because you're you're i can. I can tell you out that the cares act that we got under a trump administration for the city of chicago is almost nine hundred and eighty million dollars. Wow just shy of That money was to use for p. p. e. to help us avoid. The economic attack was watching over that grants. Who's watching over it and it'd be used towards is like homeless. Prevention violence reduction in all kinds of other things in very little effort has been plagued by many administration throughout this country to try and help local businesses survive. My personal view is take some of that money and want restaurants to be close. Pay that to be close to the cares that they don't have to worry about their bills in its employees. Santa disciples industry that we want closed. I went up. I wanna come back. I want to get reaction of from a fill as to how widespread that is and and what the restaurant tours are doing with Three hundred million dollars sitting in a pot waiting to be divvied up and also i want to get reaction from day falls out in california as well. Everybody's trying to survive in this thing. Nobody seems to know exactly what's going on and when we come back we're gonna talk. How restaurant tours are trying to fight back including we'll hear more about day. Foles each trying to be governor. Newsom away from his doors back shortly. We're going to let our guest take a moment to introduce themselves to you more fully and let's start with phil vitelle of the chicago tribune film there though is how i am the chicago. Tribune's restaurant have been so four thirty years and once upon a time No one knew what you look like when you walked into a restaurant but you change that figures back. What caused the change and Any reaction from restaurants when you did that Two years ago. I removed by my my so-called baskin's decided alright let people see my face. The reasoning was after all these years. A lot of restaurants particularly the ones that are especially dialed in wants to have good. Pr companies working for the At more or less. Figured out what. I was like what i looked like in the could spot me and there were some restaurants that could never do that and i realized i had inadvertently contributed to an unfair system where they restaurants that could not make a mistake of giving me bad service because it was me and restaurants who could make that mistake and i said i thought the only way to level the playing field was to let people know what i look like. Now good now. If it doesn't work out like phil like until. I can tell you that if i were to call over to central casting and ask them to send me a restaurant critic. I think i'd send someone who looks like you. Let's go to certainly well fed. Well i guess that's one of the occupational hazards. Let's go to raymond lopez. Ray explain everybody to alden who you are good he lose to you and all your viewers once again. I'm in raymond. Lopez emerged chicago. City council a represent how communities on the south west side of the city. Gramling american tino on home to many the essential workers impacted by covid as well as a lot of people who are entrepreneurs and small business owners in their own right locally and covert is one of the you were one of the major ward's in chicago hit by cove as well in addition to the restaurant issues. We're talking about this evening. And we have posited double digit positivity rates almost every one of the communities we've been fighting with the administration to ensure that we could get testing and get access to healthcare for the individuals who need it most our city. Do you believe the administration in chicago is deliberately doing anything bad to the people in your ward because you are their leader. I don't think it's because i think it's because of me despite some of my colorful epitaphs with the mayor. They'll national news. Your i think it's your own blissful ignorance to the world out to outside of her cocoon that she doesn't realize that there are working people who still have to go out day in day out that are impacted by the by the virus. dave foles. Let's go to you for a brief introduction. A bruce thanks for having me again today My name's dave folds. I'm colin or of five restaurants in southern california. La in ventura county It's family restaurants with a sports theme. We show all the games and serve burgers sandwiches and any restaurant employs about five of them about thirty thirty five people so so we have a lot of people we employ and We had an order recently to to lockdown outdoor dining in restaurants limiting us to take out in pickup only and delivery and I'm in defiance and one of my stores and getting an incredible amount of support and some some haters out there. But that's okay. But i'm standing up for something which i believe in standing up for my employees and and it and it's it's been rough but it's I wouldn't change a thing on and and it's it's a good thing i'm doing. I wish other people would join us because because my staff is counting on me my staff needs these jobs and and and if i don't stay open the restaurants gonna fail and i'm not going to be a statistic. I'm just keep going to keep pushing. How large is your staff dave. Pardon me a large is your staff We have about. I say about one hundred fifty people working in the vibe restaurants and And of course they range from guys in the kitchen to the servers all of our managers general managers. We have You know just all the compositions And were trying to grow and develop so we have borne managers and and these are people and by the way people in the restaurant industry first of all the servers many of them are single mothers and and they need this income more than anybody believe me. We have to take care of these single mothers. And i have a lot of single mothers working for us and the guys in the kitchen the they need to pay the rent. And it's just it's were the last people you wanna hurt. And were so important in in. And i'm just so surprised. I'm shocked in our government in our state government that be would allow us in discriminate against us and think that we're not important especially in. I'm talking about outdoor dining. That's all we're asking for took that away from us you can go to the home depot in you could mess around with a leaf blower and purchase one though and you can go to the furniture store you can go to the jewelry store but you can't go outdoor dining in a restaurant in southern california right now and what is just ridiculous. What is What is the governor or the law enforcement agencies within your jurisdictions what have they done to Do wrap your knuckles. I mean they clearly don't like what you're doing. They probably don't like that. You're doing this interview and sharing your story around the country as you've done most of the week on fox news Are they coming down on you in any way. Well first of all the police departments made it very clear. The sheriff's that they're not going to get involved with this at all they are not going to be enforcing any people staying past curfew. Which we have here is ten o'clock or or or arresting restaurant tours or anything like that or helping in that process. Which is great. And i have to also tell you the health department. These are good people in most of the people who come up to me who wanna sight me say Listen i understand where you're coming from. But i have a job to do so you actually build a relationship because they come in every day the health department from los angeles and they find me five hundred dollars a day every day at different times so one of my partners and i usually have to be there and and everything else is great. The the The distance within tables the cleanliness of the restaurant all those other things. That are so important masks. And things like that but Amount supposed to be open. I asked the One of the inspector today said how many other people are doing this in los angeles and he said i'm the lone ranger and i just believe that and i know her factors other people doing it but they're just under the radar and in in its But this is a actually really proud to make this stand right now. I was so scared at first. And i'm still scared. I don't wanna lose my restaurant but But you know other people and other americans have done such other more dangerous things that they fought for liberty when they've been in foxholes with bullets flying over their head. That is real stress. That is real worry. I'm standing up for something that is worth losing so I i'm just proud to be doing this. And so my partners fill the In in illinois Many or several restaurant tours downstate outside chicago. They pop up on the news of defying The the goals and the dictates of governor pritzker democratic governor but Do you do hear other stories or or pockets where people are going to stand up and is there any well known restaurant tour in chicago that would follow a day folds lead in. Say i'm gonna fight back against this. There are quite a few restaurants that are seeing people indoors. In defiance of the rules there are very few restaurants and to my knowledge. None in chicago. That are taking a stand and going public with that. What they're doing as dave suggestions with some of the restaurants in his area they're just gonna keep it on the down low and letting people in hoping they don't get caught We had It the it the headlines and the tv news a week or so ago when a hotel in the northern suburbs was caught hosting a Allowing a a wedding ran. The wedding was more than one hundred people and there were video showing no masks and close together and all that and the what happened is they got. They got a stern talking to. They weren't even find and Nothing i want to see them find but it also lets everybody else know the first time we get caught. You're probably gonna. You'll probably be okay and then make it worse right. Is there any Move afoot in the city council Alderman lopez about cracking down on restaurants or are your colleagues Who are members of the city council more politically aware that that Standing on the side of the restaurant tours baby the popular position at the moment. All of us want people to be safe. we all. we don't want to destroy our economy in the process. So we've been talking about what we can do to ensure that licensing goes on without penalty that restaurants and are allowed to stay open despite their licensing expiring. So that once were able to reopen again that they won't have to go through more to get to that point My dogs agreed. Okay but what i think is most important is that we want people to be saved. We want to try and create some consistency for businesses to follow so that we don't have to have this underground market or this rebellion justice survi- with all with all these issues within the restaurant industry. How much revenue is the city of chicago state of illinois losing because of the crackdown and the closure of some of these restaurants. Chicago's budget has been impacted about a twenty percent loss. A twenty percent loss are people saying to you. Feel that They may be able to take this for maybe a couple more months. But they're ready to throw in the towel. I need a fifteen second. Answer here. Phil yes i think a lot. I think when when july first rolls around. We're going to see an astonishing number of restaurants saying we tried our best. The i mean hope is that. The u there's that new administration might be able to push through a restaurants act that passed the house but it's stagnant in the senate and that glimmer of hope is is causing people trying to hang on I know the Some congressman trying to get some little bit down payment relief bill going before the end of the year. That might get people. I want a little bit longer. I wanna follow up on that one. We come back. It's a one hundred and twenty billion dollar Effort will continue with our guests. I'm bruce st mark. Thanks for joining us tonight. Back thanks very much for joining us. This evening and We're gonna go back to Fill the tel. I want to get find a little bit more about you. About the the nation you The organization that represents restaurant tours obviously like any association. They've got to be politically. Astute are a restaurant tours. Perhaps upset that the association may be not playing hardball. Like they should talk about the illinois restaurant association if they don't think the owner restaurant association is fighting hard enough. I'm i i. I would have to think they're not paying close enough attention. Okay i speak to. The restaurants has been fighting tooth and nail. The on the national level. National restaurant association has been as been allowed advocate. They may not have the results they want yet. But they're doing their best. I think the complicating thing is unlike the airline industry which is already got set aside genre on a number of the banking industry the illinois. The restaurant industry is a series of small businesses and run large business and as a result i think they don't have as large voice in congress they don't have is larger voice even in local government. And they don't get the same cut of the pie when when when aid is being distributed. I'm surprised by that. Because obviously politicians probably gonna power lunches or dinners all the time and i would think that just being around and being you know like depal titians for a while. They have a lot of friends in the in the restaurant business more so than dry cleaners or automobile repairs so i i'm surprised that that That pressure has not worked yet. Although you mentioned earlier in the broadcast that there is a bill that's passed the house. It's in the senate. Now it's a one hundred and twenty billion dollar. It's called the restaurant act. I guess that's pretty simple and can you give me give everyone a little more information about that as you say. It's it may likely to pass. It's got forty sponsors so This would seem to be something that is going to pass unless it's trapped in the politics of the house that they don't wanna give anybody any money until You know the big covid relief package has been passed your reaction. Yeah it's it's it's it's it has not come up for a vote at all as made it to the senate floor so There's there there are a number of people that did not want to be. Perhaps seen is voting against franche just prior to the election though. The bill was just kind of bottled up. Because nobody you know we defeated are our passage able to sit out. Want their votes on the record. the restaurants actors as the name suggests more specifically geared toward restaurants. We had the ppp. P p about payroll up a paycheck protection program did not work very well for restaurants for some reason when they were because it was it was it was it was money you can spend on your employees you to to keep it from becoming alone. You had to pay back. You had a bring employees back fulltime in in in order to turn them make that one convertible into a grant and in chicago. That was impossible because the restaurants were allowed to be open. Bring the many were chirag so you can do it for a while. Then you have to let them go again and now the bill comes due now. The ppp has just been alone and fell. If by may jump been there was also another problem to also based on your tenure payroll. taxes in many. Aren't waiters In bartenders smell in a restaurant car. Your income is also based on creativity on tastes which may or may not necessarily claimed income tax on her pay taxes on so it wasn't reflective of the true amount needed for those employees either is. This is a side issue. But i'm wondering and i'm going to go back to you dave for this since we've heard that You know not only the waiters but the people who work in the kitchen Many of them the public generally knows. They're not. They're not well paid or they're not. They're not paid a minimum wage in many many areas The public may be Wanting those restaurant workers to be paid more. And i'm wondering if that From a political standpoint whether that creates a problem For you personally running your your businesses That some of the employees may be underpaid. And maybe there's a political constituency out there that wants to see them to get a bigger piece of any bailout pie. I hate to use the term bailout but at least government support that you might get. How do you react to that well. We're unique place. I mean first of all in california. The minimum wage is going to be fourteen dollars in january and And and everything is relative. You can't get a good A good kitchen person unless you pay the more than that unless it's an entry level bus and so what we're paying our our our staff you know in the area of eighteen to twenty dollars an hour for a good good cook the good they do twice as much as somebody else right on top of that they do get a indirectly tip from the from the servers. Also we have a really good team. We split our tips and and they get a percentage of it so in our situation at works really well and our in our in our kitchen staff seems to be really happy and they've stayed with us for many many years so and that's a reflection of that but But but that the with the ppp was at. I'm glad you mentioned that when we were closed. Initially we knew that we were going to get some kind of help. If you shut us down give us help. Same with eminent domain. If you're gonna put a way through my backyard pay me okay. I understand that but but right now there is no help in sight. And you're right. The ppp did not work well for restaurants. You can't would you bring your people back. You're going to have five servers to answer the phone to go orders and it just didn't work out that well but there's nothing that is. They're not telling us that they're going to help us out. So we have to survive and take care of ourselves but but you're absolutely right oftentimes in restaurants In different parts of the country. Maybe the kitchen staff is is holiday. Dave how high or. How much improvement has there been in your takeout orders given all. That's going on with you. Obviously you're forced to do more. Take out. I'm sure you probably did some takeout prior to it is there have been a big bump that slice of your business. Well with tell you would you take out. Some of the people were hater sales. Just just do more takeout. People don't understand first of all we serve sandwiches and burgers and you know Sports properties and our takeout with always really student breakfast and everything also that are takeout was probably normal times three percent. I tend to get ten seconds left. Okay brenner went now at about twenty percents. You throw in the fees. That uber eats and gas charges. A reporter will detail her experience as a child learns remotely during the pandemic. It's been a challenge. We'll also get an update on the university of illinois. It's been able to keep students on campus things to a testing program. But that doesn't mean there haven't been some lessons. Learned along the way. This past week's on other anniversary of president kennedy's assassination will look back on an incident involving the president in springfield a year. Earlier eric. two young men. They were in a second story floor of a building. Somewhere downtown as the motorcade passed by that building and illinois department of public safety employees saw a rifle scopes sticking out the window and we remember the lead singer. Songwriter steve goodman. Chicago's very our those stories. And more this hour on statewide welcome to statewide. I'm shawn crawford coming up. The university of illinois has relied on a mass testing program. This semester we'll find out some of the lessons learned. We'll also hear from western illinois university's new president about the challenges facing his school and we'll learn about incidents in springfield involving a president and a gun that and more this hour on statewide or there's a lot of concern about students being out of the classroom. Many education leaders say young students like preschoolers are missing out during remote learning. And it's not been easy on parents either adriana cardona mckay's a reporter with wbz in chicago and tells us what it's been like helping her bouncy for your old as he learns at home. I've never been the most creative parent when it comes to helping my two kids with homework. But i proudly hang their drawings on the refrigerator. The best ones later. Go to the memory box with my older child. I relied heavily on school to teach her how to write her name. Count and sing the alphabet but now with my four year old the pandemic and remote learning has forced me to become that creative parent. I never was may see. Juno gomo jumps to know dylan. Oh my god wants to though. Blue and red in nashville. Spanish is my first language. And i want to be bilingual. Yes he started. Preschool this fall at interamerican magnet school dual language school on the north side. After we got past our early struggled with technology with that things would be smarter. Wasn't that into it. He got easily distracted by his toys. The sound of the garbage truck passing by our cuts. And he's ready to change when. I asked him to pay attention. And mita all preschoolers preschoolers. Since appears he's supposed to do at least sixty minutes of instruction that are two optional classes including spanish conversation and p. I made juno participate in everything that i regardless of how much we bought struggled. He's been learning the letters of the alphabet drawing things that start with that letter when he learned about the letter a i tried to make it relatable to his favorite toy. The automobile the outdoor movie. But it hasn't been easy. My husband and i are busy working from home and my daughter is in college learning remotely. The more we push genita- focus the less. He wants to participate. I can't imagine what it's like for other parents with kids in older grades my colleague suzanne six year old is a first grader at only elementary on the north side we chatted the other day about the highest speculation so promote learning on young kids in us parents. She says it's sometimes hard to see other kids in her son's class. Doing exactly what the teachers ask. My head does not even get up enough. Because he's like i'm. I haven't toys here. He was an recommended. Pull him out of the optional classes so that he would have a better attitude in the main class where he learns the most. I was worried. Bilman creggan elementary in the northwest side. We have to let the parents know you know you never come here. you know. Every kid has has their own unique way their their own way of learning their own way of should expressing themselves. I knew that. But i didn't quite put it into practice when i saw the juno wasn't as involved as other kids in his class there was other advice. Maybe a weekly prize for him. Give them a goal. Okay so if you do your work you know if you buy your name correctly by yourself you know today. I'm going to give you a sticker. Socio uses that strategy. But like we've broken it down to like goals alike you know. Can you get ready by yourself in the morning. Can you pay attention for most of this hour. If you can you get a sticker. She got this tape from our teacher last year. And it seems to work for her. I'll tap the sticker. Turn like you know. I won't say any just tapped the sticker charlie. Souza gives her son as mold prize at the end of the week. Depending on how many tickets he has collected it could be a plush. Because she'll a slime kid benitez the teacher. Also stressed with the parents need to be overly excited make learning fun and most important. Be patient steadily. You know while you're doing it wrong. You know what curious. This is how you do it. You know a lot of kids. Don't know how to hold a korean kids. Don't know how to hold a pencil. show that show them okay. Show this is how you hold the pencil so went to the dollar store. Get a dry erase board markers lots of and some prices hot wheels slime a few lollipops. I told june about the speaker system that reward at the end and things improved all on aug undercover being. It's hard to second job teaching which has helped me understand even more important role. Teachers play two months. June has learned so much his more willing to speak in spanish he confidently counts in both languages and sing songs. Still unsure about in person learning during a pandemic i can tell juno wants to interact with his classmates off the screen but for now trying to make it work hoping he won't be too far behind when the pandemic is over atlantica mcgee. Wbz news the university of illinois at urbana campus initially predicted that. It's mass testing program. And other mitigation efforts would keep the total number of covid nineteen cases on its campus to under five hundred this semester but the actual number of cases rose much higher to more than thirty eight hundred with the vast majority occurring among the thirty five thousand students. Living in champaign urbana to understand what lessons have been learned throughout the process of reopening. The campus during the pandemic christine. Herman spoke with u. of i. Epidemiologist becky smith. Holiday students are most likely to have a symptomatic or what we call posse symptomatic cases which means they have very minor symptoms. If any so we know that the majority of our cases if we had only tested the symptomatic we would not have found them now. That means that we found a lot more cases than most people do so it looks like we have a lot more infection going on because we found so many cases that said we found more cases than we wanted to in part because there were more cases than we would have liked. And we've learned a lot in the process so let's pick that apart. What have been the biggest lessons. And what are the things that maybe would have done differently with hindsight that you have now that might change the way things go moving forward into twenty twenty one so i think the biggest lesson is that technology cannot save us from a pandemic we have to have culture working with the technology being that university of illinois is a very tech heavy campus. We went all in on the technology. And then we're picking up the culture pieces as we go and really. It would be better to work them together and moving forward. That's what we're doing that we're working in concert with social scientists and with the communication experts to try to build everything together. So when you say technology you're referring to the testing piece but also the use of the app for exposure notifications and the culture piece. Can you tell me what you mean by that. So the culture is the people following the guidelines. It's compliance. We talk about. I don't like the word compliance because it sounds like we're putting down rules in everybody needs to comply which really what we want to do is give guidelines that help people keep themselves safe. We want to empower people. Give them what they need to keep themselves safe. Unfortunately there's a culture in some groups on our campus and not just students but some groups on our campus have the belief that this is not a risk for them and so they are choosing not to follow our recommendations or guidelines. because they don't see the point Some of the countries that have done the best at controlling this virus have been countries in which rather than the individualistic mindset. That americans have their countries in which care for the community takes priority. So how do you bake that into. A strategy for cove mitigation. This is a major question that we are thinking about an. I mean you've possibly heard the quote from dr fauci. He said. I don't know how to tell you that you have to care for other people so that this is something that everybody at all levels of pandemic control know that in order to control the pandemic we have to care for other people and we have to make those choices. I don't know how to make that happen but then again on the hard inside. I'm not a social scientist. So that's why we're bringing in the social scientists in the communications experts to understand before we can actually change people's minds and attitudes about how to keep everybody safe. We have to understand why they're making the choices that they are that we've got a team that's actually working on talking to spend doing surveys doing interviews and focus groups just to try to understand. Why do people make the choices that they do. That you of i. Epidemiologists becky smith. She spoke with christine. Herman western illinois. The strategic plan calls for it to rise to ten thousand by twenty twenty seven huang believes western can hit that mark if it's aggressive in recruitment and retention now has a enrollment goals depends upon many factors in resources human resources financial resources program availability and also Even rolling partly The demographic shift we have seen throughout many of the country Fewer students are graduating from a high school. Dr we you want is the new president of western illinois university. He'll take the reins in january. Rich agar reporting just ahead on statewide. We recall a singer songwriter and baseball fan while he's no longer with us assistance whereas the team to make major league base- wade played their zeal. Even know fans weren't in the ballpark's at wrigley field in chicago while there were no fans what has become a team. Anthem was still played following. Victories member station. Wbz produces a podcast colt curious city where listeners ask questions and reporters seek out answers. And this week on. Statewide will listen back to an episode. That featured reporter jesse dukes along with alexandra someone and it focuses on that song and the song writer both of which are pure chicago. Okay alex i'd like to start us off with some sound go cubs go jesse here it so you do You can pause it pause it. Do you recognize the sound. That is the song they sing it cubs games and i believe you have to win. But i'm not a hundred percent sure on that. Yep you're absolutely right. It's go cubs go. And they play over the public address system at wrigley field if the cubs win a home game. But there's actually a little bit of a dilemma. It was actually spotted by our question. Asker it came from nick brunner and he noticed something in the third verse of the song which many people don't even know but it goes mocked. Catch alex did you catch the problem. I know that. Wgn doesn't broadcast the baseball games anymore. Exactly the problematic line is you can catch it all on wgn which is not true anymore and in fact the cubs haven't been on wgn radio for a few years now but wgn tv has been there broadcasts home for decades and that is no longer true as of this year because the cubs are launching their own network marquee sports network. And you know the cubs. Probably don't want to promote a rival broadcaster in their own stadium. So nick our question asker wanted to know what are the cubs gonna do about that too so you could get a superfan maybe to write another song or rewrite the song but you could not get the original songwriter to rewrite it. Who is Steve goodman so here's his story. Steve goodman was born in nineteen forty eight group on the north side of chicago. And his biographer clay. Ill says he was a cubs fan from beginning whose dad would take him to wrigley. He would skip school to go. See the cubs. And you've got to understand. This was a time when the cubs were not drawing. They never won. This was peak lovable. Losers cubs in fact. I just looked this up. He was born in nineteen forty eight. The cubs did not have a winning season until one thousand nine hundred sixty three so until he was fifteen years old. He never saw them have a winning season. Steve started getting into music when he was pretty young. He sang in the choir at temple. He was a boy soprano. He played guitar and kind of highschool. Full been you never in highschool never saw him without a guitar went off to college but didn't last very long because he didn't like to go to class you would rather play his guitar and right around this time. He's twenty years old. he not feeling very well. He goes to the hospital and he is diagnosed at age. Twenty with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Very scary diagnosis. The prognosis for people. Who got diagnosed back then was maybe six months. There wasn't really an effective treatment but they were just starting to develop these new cancer treatments and he signed up for an experimental treatment and after several months that the cancer actually goes into a remission in the summer of nineteen sixty nine. And that's really when he decides he's done with college and he's just going to focus on being a full-time folk musician. We all get these little signals in our lives. It's sort of like being at a light in the light turns red or it turns green. You know steph. Wait for the light. Sometimes pretty quickly. He could make a living just playing songs singing songs in a handful of bars around chicago. There were all these clubs And they were really just kind of like bars like places where you know. Maybe get fifty sixty seventy chairs. There is the url of old town. Which kind of became his own. Our own steve. Good some performers which. Just get up and sing their songs. Steve would do that. He was virtual guitar player but he also was a storyteller. After i walked to the bottom of the grand canyon in nineteen seventy five. Just got back. He talked about the cubs a lot. And how terribly they were doing. That was kind of theme because they haven't wondering my lifetime young just charmed everybody okay so by the early nineteen eighties. Steve is making his living as a folk singer as a musician and he's pretty successful and he's lived. You know ten years longer than the original doctors would have predicted. He's in his early thirties but he still has two goals. There are still things that are being him and one is that he's never had a hit song on the charts where he's the performer. And the singer other people have recorded songs he wrote and had hits You know maybe most notably arlo guthrie. The sun forty got three at a number four easy listening hit with the city of new orleans on the country singer. David allan cove had a country hit with you never even called me by my name. Call made it kind of makes fun of country but it made it onto the country music charts friend name. Steve goodman wrote that saw he told me it was the perfect country western but he was never the singer on those hits up to that point and you know it's clear that he may have been a little frustrated about that. Why didn't he have hit. Well there are a lot of possible reasons. But his biographer klay heels has a theory back in one thousand nine hundred seventy s. He was discovered by the country singer. Chris christopherson goodman was being handed. The brass ring you know. Would you like to come to new york to start a a a recording contract. Most anybody in that circumstance would say. Gee yes thank you. Thank you but the first thing out of goodman's mouth was if you think i'm good. You got here my friend. John prime he had this instinct towards generosity. And i'm not sure that always worked in his favor. That kind of generosity is more of a great life lesson but it doesn't necessarily translate into becoming household word know is a guy maybe he was just too nice to have a hit so that was goal number one and moving onto number two remember. Steve loved baseball. Have been trying to write a song about baseball for four years. And i get about three quarters of the way through it and then i walked somebody and take myself out you know. I never get to finished the damn thing baseball metaphor. it's basically means. Failure is true. I i get about three quarters away through it and then then i'm struggling. You know it's a hot afternoon. And i'm looking at the bench and the manager comes out to. He's been trying to write a baseball song for years. And finally in nineteen eighty-one he wakes up in the middle of the night. This vision this dream and from that comes a song called dying cub bands last request by the shores of old lady michigan. What you're seeing is video of steve. Playing the song live an old cub fan lei die. He's up on a rooftop guitar. He's got a bright blue cubs head on and you can see wrigley field in the background. You can even see the infield grass nice green. They knew his time was short. It's about this lifelong cubs fan. Who is dying. I'll never see wrigley field anymore before my eternal rest. And he's telling his friends and family how he wants to give me a doubleheader funeral in wrigley field on some sunny weekend day and the song also really makes fun of the cubs losing all the time. But what do you expect when you raise up a young boys hope and then just crush them mike. So many paper veer cups year after year after year after year after year after year after year after year until those hopes that are just so much popcorn for pigeons beneath the el tracks to eat. He said you know. I'll never see wrigley field. That's intense actually. What's intense about it. Now that i know about his diagnosis it feels like it's autobiographical. And that he's talking about his death yet it does. It sounds that way but you know when he wrote the song he was in remission he had been more or less cancer free for twelve years but between the time he wrote the song in this video was shot. The cancer had returned. And i think you can actually see it in the video. you know. even though he's smiling and he looks happy. It looks like he's lost some weight and he probably knows at this point that the leukemia's back and it's it's pretty serious your brings a so. That was steve. I baseball song and pretty quickly becomes a crowd pleaser at his shows kind of a local favourite in chicago in fact the local. Tv station wants to film him. Performing it at wrigley field but the cubs wouldn't allow it They said no. And the reason was. The song pokes fun at their propensity to lose and they didn't like that. This was a time when they were trying to rebuild a team and they were focusing on winning and they just didn't want that lovable losers crap in their stadium. So this is where dan fabian. Okay comes into the story talking into the receiver dan. Fabian was a radio producer at wgn radio and one time while he was at work. He saw steve goodman on the radio. You know like doing an interview or performance and mandal. Lightbulb went on fabian. Had been looking for some bumper music for the wgn cubs broadcasts like stuff to play in between the innings and so he steadman there and he had this idea. What steve goodman writes. A song i literally ran to the studio dribbled the little note when flipped it to him during a commercial. Hey do you want to write another song. I like dying cubs fans last requests. Would you like to read a happy cup song. That was on a tuesday eighteen beck thursday with a guitar with the bones of the song and the following monday night tuesday morning we had a party little studio just south of wrigley goodman just like round up a bunch of his folks singing friends i think a couple of cubs are actually part of it too and they just knocked the. They knocked the song out in. What was your involvement with the recording. Where you were you producing. I'll have you know high squeaky voice in the background. Oh you saying. I told you it was a party. Recorded and three weeks later and the cubs liked it and this year the cubs this nineteen eighty-four. They're actually doing really really well that year. And they say you know what if we make it to. The playoffs steve goodman can come and sing the star spangled banner. He's not gonna sing the dining cubs fan song. But let's keep goodman. Come in saying you know to kick off the game because we we love this song and the cubs actually do make it to the playoffs for the first time since. Nineteen forty-five but steve goodman is of leukemia. Four days before that. But that's actually not the end of the story so you remember. I told you wanted to write a great baseball song and you know arguably he wrote to do you remember. His other. Big goal wanted to have a song that he wrote himself he performed. That would be a hit exactly. That song go cubs go was used by. Wgn for a few years but then it kinda got forgotten you were talking about the cubs playing it at the end of every game. That's relatively recent tradition. That started in two thousand seven which was also a big year for the cubs somebody at the cubs organization said. Hey remember that. Old song from the eighties. Steve goodman all that. Why don't we dust that often play it after a home game win and we'll see if people sing along and they dance they sing along. It caught on became this big tradition at wrigley field also caught on in the bars. You know they would. People would sing along and then in twenty sixteen years. This is going to be a top house cups. Go gone a lot of attention. Full marina a couple of become sang. The song and saturday night live the cast of hamilton in chicago. Saying it and you know hundreds of thousands of people we're seeing in grant park at the victory parade there. Something like two million streams on spotify and it went up on the billboard charts. Wow and that's like what. Thirty years later he finally gets a hit that he sang. Steve goodman fans would say it's kind of ironic because go cubs go is not what they would consider to be one of his best songs but clay eels and other say goodman would have appreciated the situation and yeah. It's sad that he didn't live to see it. But if you think about it it's also kind of the perfect story for this song because you know. Most of steve's life the notion that the cubs are gonna win baseball. Season's here again you know. It's time to start a whole new day. All of these lines are about him. In spite of all the available evidence and i think that resonates deeply with chicago cubs fans. And i think that sorry. I'm getting emotional. I think it's also even though it's a pretty simple song. It is also kind of essence of steve goodman to And i think you know in that clip. I played for you. And you see all those people singing the song you know full-throatedly and they've got signs that say. This is grandpa. steve tapped into that. Yeah no i think you're right. I mean i think there is that dream that somehow they'll succeed someday and people not giving up on that dream. I do think it's real and i think it's kind of like the spirit of the city a little bit chicago. Were not new york. But we're going to matter to. I do think it's a part of the spirit of the city itself that's captured in that idea. So maybe you know you could see why it might be a little bit difficult for the cubs to think about rewriting or reforming the song. Okay i see why now. It's not such a simple thing. So what are they doing well. They have said they're going to continue that tradition. But according to klay heels. Steve goodman's biographer. Doesn't actually matter what the cup stu. The song is going to survive any ownership changed any radio change because the fans will be singing. The song no matter what mean go cubs go. I think it's forever. Audie president lee and streaming video graham year. But there's still more to come but first misinformation about covid nineteen as sometimes spread faster than the disease itself chase. Cavanaugh looked at some of the reasons. Why in this report when it emerged earlier this year the world had limited knowledge of the coronavirus and it's full effects doctors and researchers work to better understand that z's but countless rumors also circulated peter adams with the news literacy project explains like self tests. You know if you can hold your breath for ten seconds. You don't have it in. That's entirely false or you know if you gargle with water you can wash the virus out of your throat on. That's false so so. Those kinds of false claims circulated quite a bit. These small-claims can escalate too much larger concerns when somebody gets sick including they seek treatment. That's what dr brian postition. Hospital is medical director. Dumber hospital is seeing people who are waiting and delaying routine care or even urgent care are presenting with more to problems that perhaps may have normally been the case pre covid expert information on covid. Nineteen may appear sporadic and contradictory. This says palestinian is a factor of time. But basically you've got months to years together ada on you know with covid you've kind of been operating on a much much smaller timeframe to to determine what's best what works for patients what may not be as effective confusion can also come from a misunderstanding of how scientific research is done. Nicola do is a professor at northern illinois university whose work includes training future science teachers. She says issues can arise when people were presented with news reports of studies that contradict each other when there's new findings that is often picked up because it's exciting but in the scientific community you would find that if there's one finding that's quite unusual the rest of the scientific community would be pretty skeptical of that. Finding we'll do emphasizes that science is an iterative process skepticism. In this case prompt further study they might change a particular variable. And they might find. You know that finding while it was true when we put it in this new context we find out more information that contextualized that i finding but even with a proper understanding of research. There's still the matter of people trusting the information that they find adams with the news literacy project says over the past decade people had been consuming a greater proportion of opinion content that has caused people to just echo the talking points that they're hearing all day every day and people are really failing to distinguish between opinion journalism. Straight news reporting. That's not to say opinion. Journalism doesn't have a role people who know subjects very well who engage in honest debate who take positions that are well reasoned fossil that plays a role in the national conversation. But we still need a shared set of facts about which to have a debate. Liu says the should also be taken into account when judging suggested courses of action regarding covid nineteen there are a lot of economic consequences and personal consequences to following the guidelines presented by scientists and when we group those things together that makes it point to the scientists as their the problem. They're not the problem. The data the data. What we choose to do with that data is a different question. Ultimately a large part of combating disinformation comes down to distinguishing opinion versus fact liu says they can depend on the nature of the research behind a report. I look at who has done a study. is that study funded by a company profiting off of results. I look at did that. Finding have a control group or comparison group did they very variable and how information is presented. Suss where the information doesn't actually ask you to trusted. it shows. It shows you why you should stingy at northwestern. Medicine says patient knowledge is improving now. Fortunately sometimes people just don't know how they were exposed or when they gave the from links varying spectrums from very little knowledge of anything about covid nineteen to kind of people who really do job reading on it and the hope is that greater scientific and media literacy can help fight the flow of misinformation. I'm chase cavenaugh. This past week marked the fifty seventh anniversary of one of those tragic events and us history. The assassination of president john f kennedy. It happened in dallas texas in nineteen sixty. Three you know is an incident here in illinois in springfield just a year earlier. The president writing an open vehicle when a rifle was pointed out of a building above crystal. Thomas is a former reporter with the state journal register in two thousand eighteen. She wrote an article about that incident and we talked with her then and today on statewide. We revisit that conversation crystal. Thanks for being with us. Let's start by explaining kennedy's visit to springfield. What was his agenda here. Let's say kennedy was visiting springfield as part of a stop during a campaign tour The midterms were in a month and he was in springfield to stump for democratic candidates Namely representative sidney He was here to give a rousing speech to a crowd of thousands of people in springfield urging them to vote for his candidates so he comes to springfield in a motorcade in sues. once he leaves The plane at the airport. How did this come to your attention. How did you find out that there was something that occurred during that motorcade. Well so on. The fifty fifth anniversary of president john f kennedy's actual assassination. The washington post ran an article by professor stephen. Not this professor. Actually got these declassified documents from the john f kennedy library in boston that explain this incident. He was the one who found That this incident actually happened. We didn't know about it for so many years because it was sitting in that document that was still classified until two years ago and your newspaper at the time. Just had a brief blurb that something had occurred. Well i wouldn't even call it a blurb because Two lines on page seven. It was part of. It wasn't even part of the main story. it was Part of a story called kennedy sidelights. That was explaining kind of the police presence. It took to protect a president kennedy and to secure the motorcade and two lines Didn't talk about how There was a rifle pointing at president. Kennedy at one point in the motorcade at all it said was that two youths were arrested and that they were held for secret service. There is no follow up and no explanation for why they were arrested. So talk about the rifle itself in somebody of course witness this. Do we know who saw it. And what did they say what. What did they describe seeing and And of course what the investigation up ali we know about this incident. So far is what was found. In that biweekly report. That was declassified. At two years ago the report is about Is about twenty pages. But the brief about the motorcade is about paragraph and what it says is that there were two young men they Were in a second story floor of a building somewhere. Downtown and as the motorcade passed by that building once it left in illinois department of public safety employees saw a rifle scope sticking out the window and from there on Local police went and got the to use arrested them and brought them to secret service. They were questioned by secret service. They've admitted that they did. Stick the rifle out the window at the presidential motorcade but their explanation for doing so was that they wanted to see if they can see the president through the scope of the rifle so that when he came back through the motorcade thirty minutes later they could see him better. They weren't prosecuted. They were however Their- rifle and the ammunition was seized. There was never any follow up that we could tell. No information was given by the police or the secret service to the local media not to the local media. And it's it's pretty curious because i couldn't find anything in any of the illinois state journals pages Following the incident. There's nothing about it according to the declassification archivist at the j. f. k. Library in any of the documents. She's looked at There also isn't a trace of it in springfield lore. Which is what i kind of find the most interesting part because there were locals. Who were involved in that arrest. There were police. There sheriff's deputies things like that maybe people who are on that motorcade route that saw something and yet somehow this. This incident didn't trickle down to you. Some kind of rumors or some kind of an Farfetched story that people tell their grandkids. We're talking with crystal thomas a reporter for springfield state journal register and we're talking about. Gfd's nineteen sixty two visit to springfield some new information. That's come out regarding an incident during the motorcade in which a rifle was apparently pointed at the president when we mentioned Two youths sixteen and twenty years old or taken into custody eventually not charged with this. You were able to track down at least one of these people. Yes he actually still lives in the area He was sixteen at the time but now obviously he's much older. I paid a visit to his house on saturday. Because i couldn't track down a number for him and i knocked on his door He opened his door his Small dog came out and we chatted for a bit. I there's no way really to Begin the conversation about whether you try to assassinate president fifty six years ago so i mostly just asked a question. Showed him the brief He didn't really want to talk about it. So what you see in the paper is pretty much everything. He told me that you know stories. Right there in the In the brief and He grabbed his meal and then closed the door and you did not identify him because he was never charged with any crime. No he was never charged a secret. Service declined prosecution. We took a look at his local criminal records to see if that cave any kind of indication one way or the other That would talked his motivation about the incident. And it didn't there is nothing. He's pretty clean when it came to his record and so we just decided not to name him although he is named in the brief well. It's interesting to me this incident. Even though we can't prove that there was any intent to harm president kennedy at the time it's sort of foreshadows the events in dallas. Just a little more than a year later apparently though it did nothing to stop the president from writing in an open motorcade or at least that we're aware of that You know whether the secret service started becoming more concern because of this one incident where they were. They realizing that he was much more risk in something like an open. Motorcade just seems interesting to me the the close proximity of this to the actual assassination. Yeah the actual. Assassination was thirteen months after the springfield incident. And there are a lot of similarities. president kennedy in dallas was in an open-top limousine Similar to how he was in springfield You know he was shot from above so there were a lot of similar similarities between the two trips And one thing we can't know at this point was what kind of conversations the secret service had Or president kennedy had after this incident in springfield If there were any conversations you know. They're not in records that we can see or have been declassified. But i will say that one thing to keep in mind is that president kennedy himself didn't enjoy bulletproof class. He wanted to be out in the open. And one of his most infamous quotes. Was you know if i'm paraphrasing right now. But if someone wanted to kill a president they would find a way to do so so Whether they took lessons from this springfield incident or not. There's no way of knowing if that trigger had been pulled in springfield if something had more aggressive had happened in springfield Whether that would have prevented dallas. I still love to hear from people who were in springfield during that incident There are so many more stories to be told. I'm sure that there are witnesses Seeing the two men either being arrested or seeing rifle scope themselves or the illinois department of public safety employees I i think there's still a lot more to learn about this incident. Live interview took place two years ago and not much more has been discovered sense crystal thomas reporter who was then with the state journal register has since moved on but we do have a linked to her story about a rifle being pointed at president kennedy during a visit to springfield in nineteen sixty two. More of the rewind right here on sports overnight america darnold crowder's got a touchdown jess scene. Goes yeah i think The rams might be thinking about seeing at this point because they became team in week. Fifteen of the nfl In the nfl rewind. Right here with me. Dorf on sports overnight. America can't believe him and really can't believe it Sam darnold was relatively efficient. Even though that's the guy that has been said that he seemed goes before. I mean it's crazy. yeah twenty. two of thirty one. On the day one touchdown but more importantly no interceptions. Jared goff man. Oh man this guy is probably going to be the reason why the los angeles rams don't win more so than why they would win two touchdowns one interception Two hundred and nine yards twenty to thirty four again. Look doesn't sound terrible. When you compare it to sam darnold but it is because of the interception. It is because of the loss to the jets. And you know you weren't very productive against a team. That's really not very good so i do think that's cause for concern and the ranch kind of had people fooled a little bit to a certain degree if they would've lost this game we'd be talking about them. Potentially being really difficult out in the nfc now we're starting to say There's something wrong there. They're the team that lost to the jets. That's what's wrong by the way i do want to run through the scores and Don't wanna be forgotten. Obviously couple big games the chiefs and the saints the final there chiefs thirty to twenty nine the hang on saints got out to a slow start that that's really what i would say. They're probably make sense. Drew brees just coming back. Brown's beating the giants twenty two six browns continue to win. Cardinals beat the eagles. Thirty three to twenty six taking them out of the postseason the eagles that is rams twenty two twenty three. That's the final that they lost to the jets ravens big win for them and just when we start to question lamar jackson and whether or not we can throw the ball he starts throwing the wall. I it's you can't make this stuff up. forty two fourteen. That's the final there against jaguar. Team that's obviously beaten up not very good but look out for this ravens team. They could get on a pretty good hot streak going into the post season. That team from washington behind dwayne haskins tried to come back couldn't get done twenty. Fifteen seahawks win vikings go. They go down the bears thirty three to twenty seven huge david. Montgomery he's really come on really come on like that guy a couple touchdowns under forty six yards carrying the thirty two times. Sounds like what the guy on the other side of the ball for. The viking should be doing and delve and cook twenty two to twelve. That's the final for the dolphins. They beat the patriots cam. Newton lackluster performance man. Favorites. really underperformed. This you're not gonna make the postseason Gonna wind up five hundred or worse for the first time since twenty twenty. I'm sorry since it is twenty twenty but the first time since two thousand. It's been twenty years crazy. Colts beating the texans twenty seven to twenty titans all over the lions forty six twenty five and a huge day for him hundred and forty seven one touchdown not quite what he needed to keep on pace for two thousand yards thinking needs one hundred and fifty six game so maybe have to step it up a little bit in the next couple of games but again not the most important thing want to win the super bowl cowboys forty one thirty three over. The niners buccaneers come back score. Thirty one points in the second half they score nothing. In the first against falcons they were looking terrible Tom brady comes alive. The buccaneers come alive. Thirty one twenty seven they get it done over. The falcons would have been a terrible loss By the way a couple of games that happened earlier in the week packers played on saturday. The saturday games have started. I think it's fun it's interesting Really like that stuff really like when the saturday games come into play. 'cause when the postseason comes they're going to be a play then to packers twenty four sixteen over the panthers broncos go down to the bills looked really impressive behind josh allen. Forty eight to nineteen earlier. The game on thursday chargers thirty twenty. Seven over the raiders who wound up having to go to mariota because of jericho knocked out of that game all right. I wanna give you the playoff picture as it stands at the moment in time chiefs and packers number one seeds packers in the nfc obviously the chiefs in the afc saints number two seed steelers number two seed. They're bills number. Three seed seahawks. They're the number three seed. They moved up the washington football team. If i'm not mistaken was in that spot before Whether or no they're not they weren't the team i'm sorry it was the rams obviously who faltered But the washington football team is in the four spot right now the titans in the four spot for the afc browns in the five spot for the afc rams in the five spot now after falling two spots. That's really the only change in the postseason that i can see for any side. Afc or in a ac- buccaneers colts in the six spots and then the arizona cardinals and the dolphins both in the postseason in the seven spot remembered an additional spot in the postseason. This year. only one team gets a bye so just the number one seats on the bubble which is crazy the ravens. That's a good football team right. They're going to need a little help. Dolphins both those teams have a nine five record. So they're gonna need some help. We'll see how that all plays out colts cannon four brown standard for titans tenant for important just so you can understand how far teams are behind ravens nine and five. They're the closest raiders. Seven and seven. So they're pretty much out of it and some unless somebody really falters. So i'd say the ravens are the team in the mix. And i think they finish eleven and five crazy to think eleven five would make the postseason seriously if the dolphins finished eleven five and they do too. They're not making the postseason and that's a good football team. That wouldn't be in all right on the other side. Bears in the hunt with the win over the vikings they're seven. They need a little help from the cardinals. need them. to falter. Bucket is probably got themselves in with that ninth victory channel. Get you in for sure in the nfc. If you ask me fc eleven which is wild nine might do it in the nfc. We'll see vikings on the outside looking in for sure at six and eight and the cowboys five nine giants five and nine eagles. Four nine one. Mathematically all those teams still in their own division race because that washington football team at six eight has the best record Next team would be the cowboys and giants both at five and nine eagles. Four nine one all right. So that's the situation there Pretty insane when you think about it. 'cause really not much has changed since the other week that came to starting. I think last week giving you the playoff picture man. Oh man thoughts and opinions by the way gave me on twitter at store fund sports. You can always follow me on instagram. Antidote of coming at you with the nfl rewind right here on sports overnight america week. Fifteen style of the nfl rewind of sports overnight. America all right so looking at lamar jackson. Seventeen twenty two to forty three doesn't sound. Slake is gonna throw you out of the water anything three touchdowns that sounds pretty. Good one interception Pretty solid game. But that that's what i like about this kid. You know i. I love him. I hate him at times because he lets me down with. Aaron plays but ultimately you. You can't question the desire the want to be better and the guts to go out there and just throw the football and he was giving me a little bit of everything. I don't know if any of you watch the game. Like i watch every game. It's crazy but so be it the guy just he can make every throw. It's just that there's going to be some growing pains and you're gonna scratch your head of times tannehill man that the same kind of thing like that dude. It's not like overly flashy or anything twenty one of twenty seven to seventy three three touchdowns. I don't think he had any interceptions. If i'm not mistaken. And i know it's really nice to have derrick henry to give the ball to who can get you one hundred forty seven and a touchdown and yeah. I'm looking at the stats. No interceptions from ryan tannehill. As i was watching that game. I didn't remember seeing them. Throw any pretty efficient day so like you see flashes from these guys and you wonder like can they get it done when it really matters i. I just don't know i'm not. I'm not quite sure. And we're gonna find out. Obviously this is a playoff team. The titans are in danger in because when you look at their division. It's them and the colts they're both in houston's out jacksonville's out denver's out in raiders are out so there you got three teams. You've got baltimore. Who might be in. But they're on the outside looking in cleveland's in pittsburgh's in one two three four five buffalo's in that six ravens need some help. It's crazy crazy absolutely crazy. I'm gonna keep it rolling run through things. I got a lot to get into man week. Fifteen playoffs around the corner. Patriots are going to be there. I think that that's notable really. Do i think there's there's something to be said about running the table for twenty years man like these guys were in the playoffs every every year. And that's going to be something that's different about the postseason this year. That's what i'd like. you know. i always talk about usual suspects and things like that. Well you know we're going to get we're gonna get we're gonna get an unusual suspect we we might get the miami dolphins for crying out loud and quite frankly that'd be cool to me. That would be cool like to see what to do in the post season and maybe just maybe he would be pretty good. Because if i'm not mistaken bill. Belichick is a guy that usually has a lot of success against young quarterbacks done man to agata done couple rushing. Td's for him. I don't think he throw any. They only gave up twelve points. Defenses planes pick tackler for him by the way again antidote. If you're hanging out with me here on the nfl rewind sports overnight. america always coming to you. We'll starting at ten. Pm pacific standard time and then. Let's go deep people. Let's go deep. let's go dark. let's go deep dark in the sense of down a path where i am right now. It's dark so get in the dark getting the light. I don't know where you are. But i know i'm looking outside is pretty damn dark and i'm going to try to get deep into the hours as i can. I'd like to see the dolphins in the postseason. I think that'd be cool. I wanna see with the titans can do let they were there last year there one more year together but again i questioned what ryan tannehill do. I really do in a big game. Just just not sure what this can do. Forty niners not going to be in the party. I think that's notable from the nfc. They got to the super bowl last year. Not even gonna make the postseason ten. Start out good for them to be honest. Got off to a slow start. Garoppolos her mullins. I think for a while. I was their quarterback for a couple of weeks. Obviously i'm kidding but you get the point fucking look man. I'm going to talk about it like you were losing seventeen. Nothing to the falcons. You put up a goose egg in the first half. Come on now you kidding me and then tom puts the s on the chest and brings the guys back into the game. Got some help. On the defense to falcons started making makes which is what bad football teams do as we know. I just don't trust. I don't trust the tampa. bay buccaneers. I just don't not sure they're going to be a team to have to worry about seahawks i. I don't know if they're going to be a team. Have to worry about if washington makes it. What are they got to lose. But i don't think that they're going to really be a problem either. But you never know chase young. I mean that dude at a really nice impact. Defensively for them over the past few weeks. He's been unbelievable. Rams took a huge step back in my book that that was a bad. That's a terrible loss. come on. let's not kid ourselves there. The joke of the nfl right now man. They're seriously the joke of the nfl. It's crazy the joke the browns man. I'm i keep telling you. I'm starting to believe in cleveland. Some starting to calm cleveland. Cleveland like believe land. but it's cleveland. Yeah because i'm believing in cleveland. Just insane that. They're they're pretty football team and another thing that i had last week again that i saw this week. And it's going to be that way late into the postseason one saying late in the season into the post season. There's two things that if you do these things well you got a shot to win wherever you play whenever you play however you play you get what i'm saying and the two things that i'm talking about the two things and i'm talking about once again are running game and a good defense and the chiefs i ever talked about the chiefs and the saints. I'll get to that. Believe me i'll get to it but truth be told man. Look there's two things that work every week if you bring it you do pretty well with it and that's defense and that's a salad running game and the bills. They're one of those teams that i like because they do have a salad running game and a solid defense. I hear the music. I gotta take a break so keep a close everybody. I'm door for hanging out with me. Forty six couple touchdowns mitch touchdown interception trubisky. You gotta love that. Man you gotta love it mitch. Trubisky and cousins. Then the minnesota vikings. What can we say about them. What a disappointment. I guess you know the only thing the only thing that's going well for them is dalvin. Cook hundred and thirty. To twenty four carries a touchdown guys really good for what a disaster minnesota. what a disaster for the bears. although. I don't think we really were expecting the bears to be all that great except fear bear fan for minnesota that. That's that's a shock. That's a surprise. Let's talk chiefs saints think. I wasn't all that shock. That drew brees struggled a little bit in the first half saint started to figure things out kind of late in the second quarter not much happened in the third quarter for either team pretty productive fourth quarter. Move the ball down the field both guys not one of the greatest days for patrick mahomes. Not a terrible day at three touchdowns. Don't get me wrong. But twenty six of forty seven to fifty four now not the greatest day for him. So many weapons like ultimately to me. That's that's what separates the chiefs from everybody so many different weapons. Now that you have a double headed monster there in the backfield with eleven bell and you saw him late in the game. If you weren't watching lay the game he. He was the guy that they were going to to run the clock out. Keep the clocks moving sticks and the clock moving. Everything was all working for them like that. That's why you get levy on bell clyde edwards helaire there. There's nothing wrong with him. Absolutely nothing wrong with you. They got a good football team. They really do. So yeah i. I think they're going to be really really tough to be. I think new orleans is gonna be tough to be too. I really do. But they're very valuable and they have given a points like they were doing so well on defense for the last eight weeks prior to last week and then all of a sudden you know. Thirty burger with the chiefs. Thirty two points they gave up. That's you can expect that for losing to philadelphia. That's i don't think that that feels good. Anybody i don't care who's quarterbacking for you. So yeah. I think new orleans is taking a little bit of a step back and the cheeser just. They're that good man they really are. But that that wants to punch of allaire bell postseason be interesting to watch that really interesting to watch that travis kelsey while talk about that guy for a second year dorfman. Ooh how good is he. How is that guy titan. He's just so explosive so good so many guys that can hurt you tyree kill. Obviously we know about him. Watkins robinson hardman love ya bell. Don't don't get him going in the passing game while i'm telling you what the chiefs are winning this thing unless something happens i don't wanna be anticlimactic. But that's that's the truth to me. At least in my opinion visited the cheese for the taking defense makes plays when they have to give up some points and again to two teams that confer points up. You're going to expect to see a high scoring game cardinals. Let's talk cardinals. Kyler murray van. When when kyla murray can be colin murray the arizona cardinals are pretty good football team but with that being said you led a team that was playing behind. Jalen hurts for the second time and jalen hurts by the way. Look really good. Three thirty eight for that kid. Twenty four forty four Three touchdowns no interceptions cuyler. Had the one tip ball interception three touchdowns for him he goes over four hundred yards at. That's nice to see twenty seven of thirty six very efficient. yeah. I like when keiler is active. He ran for a touchdown to only twenty Twenty nine yard scrambling but again i think when he has that dimension whether or not he uses it doesn't matter just have that option have the opportunity for if kyla murray needs to. He's gonna run and he will and he's going to hurt you so that that kind of puts you out a little bit of a disposition if you're a defense thirty three points that's nice to see Was nice to see. Fizi get a touchdown diab making a real case. That he's one of the top five. He's definitely one of the top five. Maybe a top. Three devante adams tyreek hill. Doj on being go wrong with any of those guys all really good. But yeah. I think i think that arizona cardinals will make the seventh spot. I think they get in. That's kind of cool. It away because of see west three teams would be seattle rams and the cardinals most likely. That's that's good to see visions. Pretty good division is pretty good. I think when kyle can be effective with the feet makes him make emma better passer. Few weeks ago when he couldn't scramble couldn't get out of the pocket. It's not who he is. It's just not who he hits. You're asking reduce something that he's uncomfortable with and it showed really did frowns. Man brown's baker. Another really good game nother really good game from baker Not a fan of the guy really. We all know this but again when guys do things and they're improving. I'd be remiss if i didn't reward it and if i didn't acknowledge it. So baker congrats. Brother is starting to starting to play much better. And what's interesting to me as well since you are playing better. You're not talking much. Which is great. Somebody must've gotten your ear and said listen brother. You're playing really well. The last thing you need to do is start blabbing about this that the other and how good you are know people disrespected you. Don't don't do it. don't do it go out there. Perform week in week out. Give the cleveland browns. A great opportunity to win football games and be humble man be humble and the last few weeks feel like he's done a great job of that austin who i starting to become a bigger role in their passing game. Good idea really good tight end. Just got done talking about travis. Kelsey off hooper. Pretty good to very good around the end zone inside in the red zone. Excellent player great guy to have jarvis landry missing vacuuming in a weird way. Don't call me crazy here. But kind of feel like makers. Don't a little bit better without odell beckham in the lineup. For whatever that's worth that running game that's usually just kick ass like were. They can get two hundred yards no problem. It was more the baker mayfield show than anything. Twenty seven to thirty two to ninety seven couple touchdowns interceptions i love guys have no interceptions Noticed that because you're not hurting your team then job. Kind of quiet day got a touchdown but only fifty yards and the team one hundred six kareem hunt quiet seven for twenty one it. It wasn't ugly football game when when the scores twenty six. There's not a lot happening but with that being said i do take away the fact that baker he was good didn't make mistakes and the cleveland browns walkaway ten and four. That's as baker doing with baker supposed to do but the rams. I probably haven't spent enough time making fun of you. What the hell happened to you. People seriously you lost to the jets that that's that's not supposed to happen to you guys. You got a really good defense behind darnold donald. I mean look. I just can't i can't believe that the rams went down to the jets. It really happened man. You did that to a guy that saw ghost before in also can't believe that the bears were able to beat the vikings. I really can. I'm sorry but to me that that's shocking. The vikings you're your real disappointment. All right i gotta take a break. By the way i'm around or the holidays man dorfman never let you down. You know that. Yup it's here right now front and center dorfman coming at you and this is the week where we had the saturday game. Start so that was pretty cool to see The green bay packers and the bills kinda showing up like we thought they probably would. And that's kind of going to be the theme when you think about things today on the program because ultimately it's about being a contender and let's start getting rid of all those pretenders The buccaneers Look i'm going to talk about them. Because i'm not sold on the name a pretender even though they gotta win and they had to do it behind tom brady. And the buccaneers. Coming back cowboys. I like seeing them. Get win man. The forty niners. They're done. They're out of the postseason and they were in the super bowl last year. Remember that like my oh my health. Things have changed In a very short time titans. Derek can do keeps running all over people That guy's a man on a mission and we'll see if he can get to two thousand yards that that's kind of the question. I have about him when i think about the rest of the. Nfl season Colts look they held off a feisty. Texans team that wanted to try to pull off an upset in the dolphins this guy to you know something that bill. Belichick is pretty. Good at usually beaten young quarterbacks. Not this time when it comes to two and the patriots They're not even going to have a winning record this year. So yeah that's something to think about crazy crazy crazy crazy bears. They beat the vikings. But who cares about that. That team from washington behind dwayne haskins. They kinda struggle. But that's to be expected the ravens they'd poured it on rans there that team people they are that team they lost to the j e t s jets jet all right. I know i gotta get running. I'm going to do that. Right here with me. Andy door on sports overnight. America can't believe eman really can't believe it Sam brown obe was relatively efficient. Even though that's the guy that has been said that he seemed goes before. I mean it's crazy. Yeah twenty. two of thirty one on day one touchdown but more importantly no interceptions. Jared goff man. Oh man this guy is probably going to be the reason why the los angeles rams don't win more so than why they would win two touchdowns one interception Two hundred nine yards twenty two of thirty four again look. It doesn't sound terrible. When you compare it to sam darnold but it is because of the interception it is because of the loss to the jets And you know you weren't very productive against a team. That's really not very good. So i do think that's cause for concern and the ranch kind of had people fooled a little bit to a certain degree like if they wouldn't have lost this game we'd be talking about them potentially being a really difficult out in the nfc. Now we're starting to say There's something wrong there. They're the team lost to the jets. That's what's wrong by the way i do want to run through the scores and Don't wanna be forgotten. Obviously couple of big games the chiefs in the saints the final there chiefs thirty to twenty nine the hang on saints got off to a slow start that that's really what i would say there and probably make sense. Drew brees just coming back. Brown's beating the giants twenty two six browns continue to win. Cardinals beat the eagles. Thirty three to twenty six taking them out of the postseason the eagles that is rams twenty two twenty three. That's the final that they lost to the jets ravens big win for them and just when we start to question lamar jackson and whether or not he can throw the ball he starts throwing the ball. I it's you can't make this stuff up. Forty two fourteen. That's a final against a jaguar team. That's obviously beaten up not very good but look off with his ravens team. They could get on a pretty good hot streak. Going into the postseason. That team from washington behind dwayne haskins tried to come back. Couldn't get it done. Two thousand fifteen seahawks win. Vikings go they go down in the bears thirty three to twenty seven huge day for david. Montgomery he's really come on really come on like that guy a couple touchdowns hundred and forty six yards carrying the ball thirty two times. Sounds like what the guy on the other side of the ball for. The vikings should be doing delve and cook twenty two to twelve. That's the final for the dolphins. They beat the patriots cam. Newton just another lackluster performance. Man patriots really underperformed this year not not gonna make the postseason gonna wind up five hundred or worse for the first time since twenty twenty. I'm sorry since it is twenty twenty but the first time since two thousand. It's been twenty years crazy. Colts beating the texans twenty seven to twenty titans all over the lions forty six twenty five entering huge day for him hundred and forty seven one touchdown not quite what he needed to keep on pace for two thousand yards thinking needs one hundred and fifty six a game so maybe have to step it up a little bit in the next couple of you games but again not most important thing to win the super bowl cowboys forty one thirty three over the niners buccaneers come back score. Thirty one points in the second half they score nothing. In the first against the falcons they were looking terrible Tom brady comes alive. The buccaneers come alive. Thirty one twenty seven they get it done over. The falcons would've been a terrible loss By the way a couple of games that happened earlier in the week packers played on saturday. The saturday games have started. I think it's fun. It's interesting really like that stuff really like when the saturday games come into play. Because the postseason comes they're going to be to play into packers. Twenty four sixteen over. The panthers broncos go down to the bills looked really impressive behind josh allen. Forty eight to nineteen earlier. The overtime game on thursday chargers thirty twenty. Seven over the raiders who wound up having to go to mariota because of dirk getting knocked out of that game all right. I wanna give you the playoff picture as it stands at the moment in time chiefs packers number one seeds packers in the nfc obviously the chiefs in the afc saints number two seed steelers number two seed their bills number three seed seahawks. They're the number three seed. They moved up the washington football team. If i'm not mistaken was in that spot before Whether or no they're not they weren't the team i'm sorry it was the rams obviously who faltered But the washington football team is in the four spot right now but titans in the four spot for the afc browns in the five spot for the afc rams in the five spot now after falling two spots. That's really the only change in the postseason. That i can see for any side. Afc or in a c- buchan ears colts in the six spots and then the arizona cardinals and the dolphins both in the postseason in the seven spot remembered an additional spot in the postseason this year. Only one team gets eighty by so just the number one seats on the bubble. Which is crazy the ravens. That's a good football team right. They're going to need a little help. Dolphins both those teams have a nine and five record. So they're going to need some help. We'll see how that all plays out colts ten for brownstein for titans tenant for it's important just so you can understand how far teams are behind ravens. Nine and five. They're the closest raiders. Seven and seven. So they're pretty much of it and some unless somebody really falters. So i'd say the ravens are the team in the mix. And i think they finished eleven and five crazy to think eleven five when make the postseason seriously if the dolphins finished eleven five and they do too. They're not making the postseason and that's a good football team. That wouldn't be in all right on the other side. Bears in the hunt with the win over the vikings They're seven and seven. They need a little help from the cardinals. Need them to falter. Buccaneers probably got themselves in with that night. Victory channel. Get you in for sure in the nfc. If you ask me afc eleven which is wild nine might do it in the nfc. We'll see vikings on the outside looking for sure at eight and the cowboys. Five or nine giants five and nine eagles four nine and one mathematically all those teams still in their own division race because that washington football team at six and eight has the best record Next team would be the cowboys and giants both at five and nine eagles. Four nine one all right. So that's the situation there Pretty insane when you think about because really not much has changed since the other week that it came to you. Andy dwarf coming at you with the nfl rewind right here on sports overnight america week. Fifteen style of the nfl rewind sports overnight america. All right so looking at lamar jackson. Seventeen of twenty two to forty three doesn't sound split. Is going to throw you out of the water. Anything three touchdowns that sounds pretty good. One interception Pretty solid game. But that that's what i like about this kid. You know i love them. I hate him at times because he lets me down with some aaron plays but ultimately you. You can't question the desire the want to be better and the guts to go out there and just throw the football and he was giving a little bit of everything. I don't know if any of you watch the game. Like i watch every game. It's crazy but so be it the guy just he can make every throw. It's just that there's going to be some growing pains and going to scratch your head at times santana hill and at the same kind of thing like that dude. It's not like overly flashy or anything twenty one of twenty seven to seventy three three touchdowns. I don't think he had any interceptions. If i'm not mistaken. And i know it's really nice to have derrick henry to give the ball to who can get on and forty seven and a touchdown and yeah. I'm looking at the stats. No interceptions from ryan. Tannehill as i was watching that game. I didn't remember seeing throwing pretty efficient day. So you see flashes from these guys and you wonder like can we get it done when it really matters. I just don't know i'm not. I'm not quite sure. And we're gonna find out. Obviously this is a playoff team. Detained in china rain because when you look at their division. It's them and the colts. They're both in houston's al jacksonville's out denver's al. Kansas city's in raiders are out so there you got three teams got baltimore. Who might be in. But they're on the outside looking in cleveland's in pittsburgh in one two three four five buffalo's in that sex. Ravens need some help. It's crazy just crazy absolutely crazy armor. Keep it rolling. Run through things. I i got a lot to get into man week. Fifteen playoffs right around the corner patriots. Not going to be there. I think that that's notable. I really do. I think there's there's something to be said about running the table for twenty years man. These guys were in the playoffs every every year. And that's going to be something that's different about the postseason this year. That's what i'd like. you know. i always talk about usual suspects and things like that. Well you know we're gonna get we're gonna get we're gonna get an suspect. Lou might get the miami dolphins for crying out loud and quite frankly. That'd be cool to me. That would be cool like to see what or could do in the postseason. And maybe maybe he would be pretty good. Because if i'm not mistaken bill. Bella chac is a guy that usually has a lot of success against young quarterbacks to don man to got it done couple rushing. Td's for him. I don't think he through any the only gave up twelve points. Their defense is playing spectacular for him by the way again. Andy if you're hanging out here on the nfl rewind sports overnight. america always coming to you In the wee hours starting at ten p. m. pacific standard time and. then let's go deep people. Let's go deep let's go. Let's go deep dark in the sense of path. I mean where. I am right now. It's dark so getting the getting the light. I don't know where you are. But i know ram looking outside is pretty damn dark and i'm going to try to get as deep into the hours as i can. I'd like to see the dolphins in the postseason. I think that'd be cool. I wanna see with the titans can do what they were there last year. You know there one more year together. But again i question what ryan tannehill can do are really do in a big game. Just just not sure what this do. Forty niners not going to be the party. I think that's notable from the nfc. They got to the super bowl last year. Not even gonna make the postseason ten. Start out good for them to be honest. Got off to a slow start. Garoppolos her mullins. I think for a while. I was their quarterback for a couple of weeks. I'll be kidding but you get the point fucking ears. Look man. i'm gonna talk about it like you were losing seventeen. Nothing to the falcons you put up goose egg in the first half come on. How are you kidding me. And then tom puts the chest and brings the guys back into the game. Got some help on the defense to falcon started making mistakes which is what bad football teams do as we know. I just don't trust. I don't trust the tampa bay buccaneers. I just don't not sure they're going to be a team to have to worry about seahawks. I don't know if they're going to be a team. Have to worry about if washington makes it. What are they got to lose it. But i don't think that they're going to really be a problem either. But you never know chase young. I mean that dude that a really nice impact defensively for them over the past few weeks. He's been unbelievable. Rams took a huge step back in. My book really did that. That was a bat. That's a terrible loss. come on. let's not kid ourselves there. The joke of the nfl right now man. They're seriously the joke of the. Nfl crazy the joke. The browns man i keep telling you i'm starting to believe in cleveland. Some starting to call them colella. Nd cleveland like believe land. but it's khalid land. yeah because i'm believing in cleveland. Just insane that. They're they're pretty good football team and another thing that i had last week again that i saw this week. And it's going to be that way late into the postseason one saying it's late in the season into postseason. There's two things that if you do these things well you got a shot to win wherever you play whenever you play however you play you get what i'm saying and the two things that i'm talking about the two things that i'm talking about once again are running game and a good defense and the chiefs i ever talked about the chiefs in the saints sheds. I'll get to that. Believe me i'll get to it but truth be told man look. There's two things that work every week. If you bring it you you you do pretty well with it. And that's defense and a salad running game and the bills. There were teams that i like because they do have a salad running game and a solid defense. I hear the music. I gotta take a break so keep a close everybody. I'm andy door hanging out with me here on the nfl. Re one at sports overnight. America wants to trope rolls right. Cox's arm still. It'll be gone before we know it. Amazing how they have been able to work their way navigate through cove it so for the most part kudos congrats and mitchell. Trubisky is. I like to call him. Look man they wanted to shoot. Beat the vikings. Dave montgomery guy's been a beast lately. Thirty two carries hundred. Forty six couple touchdowns mitch touchdown and interception trubisky. You gotta love that. Man you gotta love it mitch. Trubisky good cousins and the minnesota vikings. What can we say about them. What disappointment i guess you know the only thing the only thing that's going well for them cook hundred thirty. To twenty four carries a touchdown guys really good. What a disaster minnesota. What a disaster for the bears. Although i don't think we really were expecting the bears to be all that great except fear bear fan for minnesota that. That's that's a shock. That's a surprise. Let's talk chiefs. let's talk saints. Think i wasn't all that shock that drew brees struggled a little bit in the first half saints started to figure things out kind of late in the second quarter not much happened in the third quarter for either team pretty productive fourth quarter. Moving the ball down the field. Both guys not one of the greatest days for patrick mahomes. Not a terrible day at three touchdowns. Don't get me wrong. But twenty six of forty seven to fifty four not the greatest day for him so many weapons like ultimately to me. That's that's what separates the chiefs from everybody so many different weapons. Now that you have a double headed monster there in the backfield with lebanon bell and you saw him late in the game. If you weren't watching lay the game he. He was the guy that they were going to run the clock out. Keep the clock move in the sticks and the clock moving. Everything was all working for them like that. That's why you get levy on bell ending clyde edwards helaire. I mean there's nothing wrong with him absolutely nothing wrong with you. They got a good football team. They really do so yeah. I think they're gonna be really really tough to be. I think new orleans is going to be tough to be too. I really do. But they're very beatable and they have given a points like they were doing so well on defense for the last eight weeks prior to last week and then all of a sudden you know. Thirty burger with the chiefs. Thirty two points they gave up. And that's you can expect that for losing to philadelphia that that's l think. That feels good. Anybody i don't care who's quarterbacking for you. So i think new orleans is taking a little bit of a step back and the chiefs are just. They're that good man. they really are for that. That that one two punch of allaire embel- postseason be interesting to watch that really interesting to watch that travis. Kelsey talk about that guy for a second year doors man. Ooh how good is he. How is that guy tight end. He's just so explosive so good so many guys that they that can hurt you. tyreek kill. Obviously we know about him. Walk ins robinson. Hardman levian bell. Don't don't get him going in the passing game while i'm telling you what the chiefs are winning this thing unless something happens i don't wanna be anticlimactic. But that's that's the true to me. At least in my opinion the lizard the chiefs for the taking defense makes plays when they have to give up some points and again to two teams. Comp- points up. You're going to expect to see a high scoring game cardinals. Let's talk cardinals. Kyla murray man. When when kyla murray can be kyla murray the arizona cardinals are pretty good football team but with that being said you led a team that was playing behind. Jalen hurts for the second time and jalen hurts by the way. Look really good. Three thirty eight for that kid. Twenty four forty four Three touchdowns no interceptions. Kyla had the one tip ball interception three touchdowns for him he goes over four hundred yards at. That's nice to see twenty seven of thirty six very efficient. I like when keiler is active. He ran for a touchdown to only twenty Twenty nine hundred scrambling but again. I think when he has that dimension whether or not he uses. It doesn't matter just to have that option. Have the opportunity for if tyler moore needs to. He's going to run any will and he's gonna hurt you so that that kind of puts you out a little bit of a disposition if you're your defense thirty three points that's nice to see. It was nice to see fit. So you get a touchdown diab case that. He's one of the top five. Oh he's definitely one of the top five. Maybe a top three davante adams tyreek hill deandre hopkins on the go wrong with any of those guys all really good for you. I i think. I think the arizona cardinals will make that that seventh spot. I think they get in and that's kind of cool it away because nfc west three teams would be seattle. Rams in the cardinals most likely. That's that's good to see divisions pretty good division is pretty good. I i i. I think when kyle can be effective with the feet Makes him makes him a better passer. Few weeks ago when he couldn't scramble couldn't get out of pocket. It's not who he is not who he is. You're asking reduce something that he's uncomfortable with and it showed really did brown's man browns baker another really good game the other really good game from baker. Now a fan of the guy really. We all know this but again when guys do things and they're improving. I'd be remiss if i didn't reward it and if i didn't acknowledge it so baker Congrats brother you're starting to. You're starting to play much better and what's interesting to me as well since you are playing better. You're not talking much. Which is great. Somebody must've gotten your ear and said listen brother. You're playing really well. The last thing you need to do is start blabbing about this that and the other and how good you are. And you know people disrespected. You don't don't do it. don't do it go out there. Perform weekend and week out. Give the cleveland browns. A great opportunity to win football games and be humble man be humble and the last few weeks feel like he's done a great job with that. Awesome hooper starting to become a bigger role in their passing game. Good really good tight end. Just got done talking about travis. Kelsey austin hooper. Pretty good to very good around the end zone inside in the red zone. Exxon player great guide half jarvis. Landry this vacuuming in a weird way. Don't call me crazy here. But kind of feel like bakers done a little bit better without oatmeal beckham in the lineup. For whatever that's worth that running game that's usually just kick ass like where they can get two hundred yards with no problem. It was more the baker mayfield show than anything. Twenty seven. Thirty two to ninety seven couple touchdowns no interceptions. I love him. Guys have no interceptions if you haven't noticed that because you're not hurting your team then lick job kind of a quiet day got a touchdown but only fifty yards and the team one hundred six kareem hunt quiet seven for twenty one it. It was an ugly football game when when the scores twenty two six. It's there's not a lot happening but with that being said i do take away the fact that baker he was good didn't make mistakes and the cleveland browns walkaway ten and four. That's has baker baker supposed to do the rams. I probably haven't spent enough time making fun of you. What the hell happened to you. People seriously you lost to the jets. That's that's not supposed to happen to you guys. You got a really good defense behind. Aaron donald air donald. I mean look. I just can't i can't believe led the rams with down to the jets. It really happened. You did that to a guy that saw ghost before and also can't believe that the bears were able to beat the vikings. I really can't. I'm sorry but to me that that shocking the vikings you're your real disappointment all right got take a break by the way i'm around or the holidays man dorfman never let you down. You know that.
