Automatic TRANSCRIPT

Welcome everybody's time once again for the next chapter under with Charlie hundreds as he explores turning the page on his life and yours hey charlie a bit to include how a soft heart can open a window to your soul and we will explain what a window to your soul is ooh windows to my soul most often occur in tragic moments of my life generally times of serious loss but you could've you could've answered in Spanish with with the long Spanish thing that no knows except our Spanish listeners it from Hawaii how do you experience jetlag from Hawaii I don't know maybe it's just my excuse to be Lazy I'm not sure but anyway today I am all windows to a soul and typically as I stated these occur for me when my heart is soft and are even broken weddings meaningful post to me thank you for that that was that was very insightful I would encourage people to listen to it by where we can tell her this is Thursday I think is Friday this is Friday and I am still believe it or not this is weird but I'm still experiencing jetlag is there are just moments in life where you get to see deep inside of yourself that that is that is consciously blocked off it requires a soft talk to get there and so I went to include that throughout my life I discovered every now and again moments that I could isn't that the truth isn't that but that's not always true with me you know I call you to see what's up you know I caught him for when he goes okay well I got the Miami go I appreciate that and it's just what he wants the podcast but try to keep that at a minimum because I was love our podcast with you I just wanted you to know that I was deeply moved by seeing with your heart it was a most about his most recent post and Sabbath moment titled See With our Heart Only I want to expand the topic of except on a on the twenty one hour I find myself watching maybe two movies on the twenty one hour but I ended up doing a lot of work on my computer about thin places that separate are conscious and unconscious cells are even into our soul however I've also found my so doing for instance or joyful moments that sought to my heart Alami did see pass my conscious self and grabbed me is entrance into something we're GonNa talk I started I started by midnight cry on there I know I did too I used to when I I don't watch movies on airplanes anymore it seems I'm very interested in our topic and we are with our good friend Terry Hershey and I would like to talk about are reading it's a good opportunity to read now as we get into this subject I wanted to let's see what he has to say on this you'll hers Kay Pasa so good to talk again yeah no one knows you're fluent in Spanish head only it involves the entirety of your life but it also seems to me that neglected from that is the most impactful moments because seen inside of ourself is sometimes scary place sometimes a pleasant place but often is scary place and and it and it and it and I think there's a lot to be said for the way they appropriate reason and it's not just ahead to start off by saying I think you know I myself fall into agreement with the STOIC philosophers of old like Seneca the younger and Marcus a really is once that argue for that vital place of reason as a guiding light of our life lastly different and unique ways terry what are your thoughts on the sort of the different function refined their origin from my heart not my head my head and my heart are both essential that each function in Mike Cetera however however the heart enables me to either savor the puzzle or urine a- As you should and I think run now more than ever to because of the rain we're bombarded with that the your belief system now I think I think as you descried it's easier to describe the head than it is ever and so I think I see the cerebral part of me is able to to put together and puzzles easily very important problem but problem solving also great problem solving really includes the heart how would so I need that capacity to see clearly for the puzzle pieces in order to navigate whatever it is something nieces experience is the heart of the head is the head is obviously very logical very analytical absorbs data problem salt I think that's in what today yeah there's a phone calls usually somebody that wants how you know how how it helps us make decisions and and its role is particularly unique role unique roles compared to the I was speaking with a first year student and asked him why did he select this particular seminary and he said I came here to this so and you can relate to this part because for them it's cerebral only in the sense that it's we talked about giving our hearts of Jesus I said that would you define especially after postseason with your heart how would you how would you explain to us what the heart is uh-huh to our heads I I mean I I have an answer that there's a you're just going to sit there it really is the second half faith it just going to sit there and let your head get filled up with all of this data and that is then going to it it's helpful to have a cranium that can process data you know a mind that can think reasonably and and stack was two things also agreed the puzzle and I say puzzle honing because life is really about pieces anyway we don't really know what's about to happen to the pieces given to defend something in creed no nobody ever asked me what may be glad to be alive over so case come together or or don't come together and so our mind can sort of do that but then we need to let our heart take ownership of that moment the head and the heart that's a really rod reach question I know you you like us guys join or love or hope or are in other words were being notionally anesthetize to answer your question is discover what I believe and that always that is never that has never left my mind you came here to discover what she believes souls can cut into separate from other souls and never feel a thing never feel he said but living sensitive souls are easily hurt Russian book that he says that he said that I believe it was supposed to hurt and he said in in the same way that are are my heart may means I'm not emotionally anesthetize it means the part of Terry's where that he said I don't like either but I when I protect myself because the danger of loss by teaching myself not to care or not to let anyone get close Oy that I've told many many times Herald Kushner was a writer that's a guy who y good things happen to bad people bad things happen I see I was raised the way here's the differentiation for me because I was races you know very very conservative fundamentalist religious and anyway helped helped son was killed quite young in a tragic way and and people were to come to life in this moment whenever asked him that that's that's interesting that you say that every call my last year in seminary and I'm with you at at I call them hokey movies hokey airplane movies I need tissues I'm always I'm always minoza dumb movie there's something about elite figure things that nobody ever asked me but but what allowed that make me experienced this day more fully or allowed me naming I want you to name and I have to defend defend and so it's fascinating that I was always asked to all that stuff you know where it makes sense it's nice and he said the dangerous will be some so good it's not theory including pain we will not be they didn't ask you about your heart what they asked you but you believe otherwise tell me where your head is what your creed loses head to it you know not necessarily figure out why the death was but you cannot rise about and move past those are the two things in other words audited gets me you know the the tugs at the emotional side of me I think what what happened is that inadvertently lots that's why pets are so marvelous a part of my soul he says we believe that in order for life to be good or contained understanding every boyd pain allows Oliver's things like five tenderness and gentleness and went and gravy and anything having to do with connection advertently you know hokey move pat or or something that happens that that holds that the part of our heart that we have covered up or something hi I'm Chris and who he he always wrote about this and and I've used this in my speeches that you know they say okay we need basically asking they're trying to get him to dead cells like our hair and fingernails they feel no pain for cut but Linden sales leading her he said he said I believe spiritually dead and and so what I WANNA do with heart as Iran Iraq to lead neither one that sees this and an Irish mission it's a novel but it was so it's about an archbishop who is so there's a political prisoners Iberia then after that his sentence that that's a live in your hearts husband that's why and there are some raised that we want to either very and I have discovered that so much of the text in the Bible would be so much wrong and anyway in the end he becomes guy used to be person so it's like a Mandela's anyway studying back studying I hate to use word religion because not religion but I've been studying that a bit mind you can see that's answer your question the mind there's a calm and better read through the heart than it would be the head and it's it's it is so often read through the head and therefore ah city to receive something about the south of whatever whether it was a national thing kindness generosity or gift in a good people kinda he kinda really hits both of those actually yeah that first of all why do good things happen right that's right there's just elements that that is wrong yeah and I'm weekend he's part of this controversial film that just came out on Netflix called the family and they are into this is I lord you know like he has this he has such a soft heart and I think it's GonNa be to soften the church his his my favorite business cover shoes the fishermen I think you had me read that I think he did have yeah it was about or cover that or or or you know or or just like we're boys growing up ah the behavior that there's a new remember no more than novelist more more time sorry I did you put the words Jesus plus nothing is reading the Gospels and as I and going by sort of the is distilled to laws and regulations and rules and if you follow this then you're going to get to where you're going to get Focused a very hard focused book Oh we got a little distraction here for a minute in harmony and many times I find myself and I'm sure listeners agree that I would find myself making decisions and it is I don't understand how you can really read that with the head and not with a heart that is very that is a very hard whatever you do however last week on the podcast remember ten ten minutes yeah I had I had I had ten minutes on the podcast And I think and I think there is a place for the head and the heart to work and somebody would ask me why and I had I was forced to respond to I'm not able to give you this really loud old what would Jesus do you know how Jesus that's that's the primary focus and I tell you I read the gospel of John Again and Michael Answer but there's something inside me that says this is the right decision and it's it's going with gut that's that's that's sort of seen with the heart is it not in in in the book when he's making the decision does hope to make me the other archbishops he's not he's got too much sort of self doubt and other got rid decision about a person who works for me and I'm going to give them a chance to do this even though the list tells me my mind cells me that's probably or rising above all of the little things that make us more profound profound your you know I've been allows me to make that decision that enables me to trust something that this tells me maybe might not be a good idea or Nabil's me to put energy uh-huh yeah instead or you know what he's actually lived life and stuff is whether we have so maybe who has the right to trust his heart core country says is that the core Ryan I don't touch and when I touched that and accessible and so we do we were although there's an emotional response all but just like crying Maria parts however a question that I wanted to to offer to you and that you're making me think that that who we are really I don't see the head as being the entree point for that correct now now change direction just a little bit and that the heart is what gives us access to the depths of our souls the heart I have been thinking the heart and intuition are are synonyms and but that's not really there's no doubt about it or it can reinforce into the heart there's no doubt about it but for example I'm GonNa I'm GonNa go with me that I get this this view of a reality of who I am that goes goes into my unconscious and you quote the I find you don't have many of those I probably have had fewer than ten probably much fewer than ten in my entire life a celtic the the Celtic writer Marcus Borg and he writes about thin places that separate what I see stop going on in his life why can't you just be more press right and so is one is what you know to advisors whether it's homeless have to say all the separate the conscious from the unconscious or the head from the most hidden parts of the soul and I I would like to talk about those thin places like true you're right that that's that's those are two very different points but what I think the heart can lead into in this where I want to kind of I love this and so what we do instead of dismissing much when the heart is the hardest what I do I touch winters I said at the current but there are thin places sometimes we can pass through and sometimes we can't talk about ten places much much of my life is predicated on defending myself against something and so as a child I don't have a really young child you know you're not defending yourself so you have unmitigated joy you have on many because I I like that phrase a real lot that there is there's a difference between the heart and soul of the head and the soul but oh my God is something something something underneath all of that and so I would say I would say I tend to be reinforced sometimes you have to grow up the an adult and a lot of that is raining insert either more well as or or act or reasonably I wanNA talk about windows of the soul and how they occur and what they occur because I think they're really important and you don't because that's the other thing that's my intuition tells me that and other words you know reading I'm making a rea- I guess I go ahead in places where all stations right now we're Vashon in this part of the puget sound you know what a Orca whale looks like right do you ever seen that irrationally any of those things or you know Religion Act Christian right there's all these ways but ended up raining all day how they quote good decision to make however I'm GonNa go with my gut here and and one of the reasons I'm going to go with my gut is because you say that when I am making a reading I am it's still it's underneath what my sir I have a connection with this person and there are there's the the soil gardening becomes the soil of my heart libro sort of stack altogether my cerebral things I have a list here's here's a shed and why should that's my cerebral and so hi Paul Nice to talk radio after holiday in Hawaii and although I returned on Monday and this doc Welna while I believe I have I do they go to Hawaii no or go there no then I've not seen them into someone someone personally that I might not have done before it said so yeah the heart the heart is good ah so I did and and so when I the more defend myself government available to so I mean yeah so I mean going with the gut I mean this kind of response in one way but it's it's just you hang out with the ridgeway either rich royals are the axe Komo daily point yeah no no he charlie orcas Ronald cheaper they can't afford to go to places like the dress as a disservice over the assume that when we touch that it's always having to do with what we would call high high side simple just about motions harder is a pro capacity of who I am as well that's you're you're you're you're leading me into age sorrow and you have you know everything's 'cause it's just they're out there and I then I'm told you know you have to sort of rain it in because they go off the coast and then I guess I haven't seen in Arca take that I just know yeah that's why because if you had you had you had you would've actually stopped the conversation thanks rich Wales Gray whales and drew as we know that yeah no the ORCAS that's a cathedral for me but there's also a thing place but the thing about the faces many times it takes you by surprise unconscious and ominous moving into a different place in our conscious sort of schedule tactful reality that were moving in and I'm I'm I'm suddenly suddenly have this panic attack that I need my phone I said what the hell for what to a place of softness and it's you know you could call it soft heart or ordered since I've such a Sich an advocate of the conscious in the uncut days how many pictures I took in Hawaii because non zero not one single photo identity away I have often thought about that about going into a restaurant or someplace and realized that I left my phone in my in my car aw and astonishment and grace and wonder and it's it's it's and and his that takes us to a place that reminds us of who we are what are what are DNA is all about and that's what's powerful now you know we've spoken about the thin places and the moving into you know I'm not sure if that's moving into the his life is good life is awesome this is what life should be and you you make yourself available to things like I don't need to buy talking anybody I don't need I have you know unless I'm by myself I have guests that I need to pay attention to have friends that I need to pay attention to nick so this'll be a perfect time for our break and then we can conclude what gives us joy and also would brings us sorrow and and I want to I wanted to take a little bit of move I know Paul likes to take a break when you walk into a senior I say that because of this this show and I went into Notre Dame you know you walk in or and I couldn't see taking pictures of resolve your love this because you're a concert goer you've been to many many men concerts and and you know it's incredibly and you do yourself a disservice which stopping and we were trying to figure out our name it right away oh please go ahead well if thank for me when I walked through the certain ones everything and I'm about a thin place whatever that little child and you wakes up and the first statement stop it they're doing to go down to watch the whales 'cause when one comes out of the water you really you you get good appreciation of certain artists you'll go to them several times and as you have done there's a there's a true story of persons spread and always offers such great insight today we're talking about soft parts and to the thin places and perhaps even to the unconscious how they lead us to realities about ourselves that are not often accessed by the conscious world is in your listening to the next chapter with Charlie and I'm on with my good friend Terry Hershey I think I can say our good friend he's been on the show so many times and watch this or as their community junior community I mean on their way to their migration but and so the Charlie you you just all of a sudden you just you slow down your quiet and and something when it is so controversial and there's so much so many frustrating things that that hit the logical analytical side that's a great question you know the funny thing is I mentioned Paul asked a great question in in the midst of the break in it's taking the place where I wanted to but but they do also hit the impact the poor the disenfranchised how then let the phone in the cars over the concert and he's freaked says how clients concert I have oh but we will we will get it terry how do you how do you keep a soft heart in today's world in the United States when you have to you have to do something to something kind of course we do the next thing we take out a take a picture because you know you can't experience unless you make a picture of it do you have any pictures I took I was only there pretend that essentially is a good way to talk about inflation cuss what's the third place says you know allows you to pay attention that's like Eddie keep your your soft hard in the midst of that without letting it take over leading the head and anger side takeover pets understood that awhile back but that's why those those you know all the time we spend on social media but age has anything to do with that about as we as we grow up and we learn more we experience more that in the beginning we may be either social media gets overrun overcome by shouted each other Oh my goodness yes I don't even I don't even read it still wanted to number one I think people around us we have contemporary ourselves better dismissed ourselves we dismissed and dismissed thinking wrong pay close attention and listen without judgment for once have no answers only good answers and good ears the grow older if we grow older as they say gracefully we grow older and genuine genuine maturity that we insight you realize what a Blowhard you were in your thirties and how little you actually know you've been humbled is time to make up for years know whether the couple has contempt if they have if you have contempt for someone you're stop just to exhale 'cause they have to remind ourselves that the answer to the question is and I want to get to the third point but I'll read the first couple of portions quickly he says Kresa world four times in your twenties take it all in getting and Susanna unwillingness to forgive but no unruliness that you actually dismiss your dismissing that person completely okay back in time in your thirties to tell everybody what you've learned your full of answers since you've done so much and you have known the kind of changes mistakes and in the light CR lies with our hearts more do you think that's possible I yeah I do actually I I I'm going to I'm going to do something the except for those you know in the Myers Briggs that are fs yet you know we experience life more through the through the lens of the head than of the heart and as we really different here there's a guy named Derek sievers it's s I v E R s not silvers and and he writes blogs every now and then aw stay up night talking with people strangers everywhere his follow promised them all make a lot of mistakes you cross world the first time to fall in this I tell people like for gentle instead of asking You you know I can tell you we can talk the news so there is the there Guinness but my my point is due to the question about how we say soft is in all the battery I end up Sheild Reuben that's do you think that it's more common do you think do you think awards I can I can ask all the questions with the paradigm of my head which are very easy to do I'm Kinda facebook post is a menu of a cat or a dog and you know it's like in an emergency has that has unnerved the couple and they can tell within ten minutes and they can give them ninety percent accuracy whether that marriage will make based on one thing you notice a few minutes left because you have an appointment in twelve minutes and I want to go to a whole different directions terry and and I want to talk about the thin places and the windows to the soul and windows to the soul we like excuse me unless we're both intentional about it I want I want to go we have just they start with a different paradigm of questions I say before I do anything tell me tell me today what made you smile Roh big go to the heart of things right away exactly and it's interesting when I when I have a conversation with people who start with that secretive the path he changed it you cross the world the second time they make change and this is one I really like the third time in your fifties across the world to come talking about the pleasant rewards of those places in how we can access moments of our childhood and access heart I wanNA talk about windows to the soul and personally I find that that windows to the soul in the heart see my shortcomings or fall sore or it's really not not a not a pleasant thing I've ever yourself you know that the
