The homeless encampment in manchester has been targeted for take down by the state. Police police not manchester police. That you guys have you been following this at all. I have a little bit but not not. I haven't followed the news stories. I've heard chitchat from people. So the reason why it was the state police instead of the manchester police. Because this was the heart of manchester. Where this harry. That's why i'm i'm Talk that was on me. Yeah it was on the property of the courthouse state property not city property interest exactly so apparently the armed agents showed up today. There was some thought that they were going to be showing up earlier this week. There was an overnight. I think it was like monday. Or tuesday overnight. They were expected to like six. Am four am something like that at five and they never showed and that's because a fairly decent number of people came out kinda just hang out with the homeless people that were there now. that's blocking. Yeah technically it was in fact Joel orga from breaking the flaw. Who called into show last night. He was actually. They're breaking the up and he was doing live streaming during. I don't think he was there today when it actually went down so they actually did it during daylight hours today. Now from what. I understand our former co host. Daryl perry was there and did get some footage. I have not yet had the chance to review it but he did send it. He loves footage. he did joke. That was a good one seat. Nobody but you would have known that it's true talking about that was obvious. Well there was always to the studio. I don't think everybody listening would've known daryl's fetish but nonetheless. Oh idea connection there. You didn't know how good of i'd senate right so you can't. You can't good joke. Go by without letting people know what they missed so he did send me a gigabyte plus worth of footage apparently today on telegram to the take down of the the of the goon squad taking down these folks tents now from what we understand they may have actually been cutting the tents so trashing them essentially making it so they couldn't wait. Wait let me get straight cut. The tendency trash them but they need to remove them i presume. They removed them. But i would have expected entities basically destroy the property So here's an update from wm. The the main television station here. Abc affiliates a homeless camp at superior. Court in manchester was dismantled. today and city officials. Say they're upset with how the state carrying out the eviction. See they would have done it. More human right at the city of manchester would have been really. They're known for being right. Yeah like one of the most humane way of falsely arrested. Me a couple of the one of the most corrupt cities in new hampshire. Yeah i'm sure they're gonna do it more tiny but because they didn't do it they can point their finger and we would have done it so much better state. Police moved in friday morning days after post deadline for removal. The camp has been a bone of contention between the state and city of manchester with both sides blaming each other for letting the situation get worse caught in the middle or those have been camping on the lawn. Calvin atwood says he's been homeless for seven years. He said it's been he says. I'm very disgusted to see this happening. Because they're basically pushing us off of one lawn onto the streets again. He said state officials and local providers say they approached each person living in the encampment and present them with several options for alternative housing associate. attorney jazz. there is a state prison and there were several county jails. That's exactly how they would phrase it to what we presented them with other options. Yeah i. I'm sorry but i don't think Most people want to be imprisoned or in a cage for Well they have Sort of halfway house places. But some of these folks don't want to get off the drugs the address that coming up here later in the story but assist. They don't want to get off the drugs but in some cases but i've known a lot of people who have been homeless who would not go to shelters For one thing shelters are bloodied dangerous. A lot of the time you can be frequently especially for women. They are safer on the street than they are in a shelter because they can have a man with them on the street on shelter they might not be able to so they lose their protection. State officials again presented these alternatives attorney general and edwards said quote for individuals. Who did not want to choose another housing. They were assisted in packing their items in. I'm just imagining what that would look like. It's not funny but you know i get cry out there. Trashing their tents and things is hardly a assistance in moving and we haven't proven the claim about the cutting of the tents. But that's typically how these things go live video of them cutting taxes. I don't know if that happened. In this particular case. But i would be surprised if it didn't i i don't know i think that was. I know that happened in florida because actually broward cowards. Who did it. It's not like their balls at the time it happens. Everywhere do the agencies were present to help people new horizons families in transition found beds for ten but others like atwood found the news cold comfort. He said they're not really helping us. The really just kicking us down. He said he's not sure where he'll go for now quote. What's next for me. Probably jail from here and the reason that's the case is because well if you're homeless jail will provide you with a relatively warm place by comparison to say a tent outside of wherever and you'll get three meals a day if you're in jail so there are some people who are homeless. Who sort of have the policy that they'll commit some sort of crime as it starts to get cold out there. Some non-crime something that will get them arrested and get them sentenced to some amount of time through the winner in jail that that is a possibility though the the other thing is it can be very difficult to stay out of jail Whether you're homeless. There's literally no place you can be without somebody to give you a problem for being there. Well if you go far enough out. No one's going to know that you're there might avoid getting caught but then walking back and forth to a rural area in order to try to get a meal heart is not easy. Yeah so being close to. The city is ideal. If brings me back two years ago here in keene. Now we're not in manchester in keene new hampshire about an hour and a half to the west but in keene there was a and they're still is. There's an a shopping plaza that is owns the hannaford grocery store in it and behind that. There's a fairly large amount of woods and the person who owns that that would part of the shops. The hanford site believe no. They don't own the hannaford. that's in international food chain. But they own the plaza franchise nope no. It's international company owned by dell. I think out of. I think europe but Anyway so they own the the plaza though that the grocery stores and they own the plaza. And it's on a large plot of landau okay. So they were knowledgeably allowing homeless people to stay on that land like they knew there was a homeless encampment on that land and they were fine with it. Bloody kind of them. Yes because you know it's fine. They have their little their thing. It's back in the woods. No one bothered by it. Fine habit well. The city of keene decided they were gonna come in and make everything better by ma- by demanding that the homeless people build their shanty up to code. So wait a minute. Wait a because it's not saying with the pitching. How do you pinch a tent to code. It wasn't a tent. They had some sort of like built thing that they had constructed. Okay back there and human enter one man leave and the city just wanted to mess with these people rights. Oh well you're building isn't up to code therefore we have to tell you that you have to leave it and tear it down and so on and so forth and so it ended up making it into the local newspaper that the the local government was targeting. These these homeless people and there was no reason for it whatsoever. Besides just harass these homeless people so this has been going on it goes on almost everywhere and it's just it's so sad we we get some more we can share with you about it. Manchester new hampshire. That was maybe the terms rated the they were visited by the police who quote helped the homeless people. Pack their stuff usually usually when they raid. I expect them to take stuff. I guess they the year. That was i presume. They haven't seen the actual footage yet. So we know but Yeah i mean. I mean taking everything is radio i can think of. Yeah so we'll we'll we don't know how how it was. I did get put trump darrell. Perry was on the scene apparently with a video camera. But i haven't had a chance. I was actually a out at Some dining historic part of the show was there. Was there a protest was it. Was it like Presley were arrested and the way daryl described it was. They wanted to fight the police. They were from boston. Interests so yeah. I don't know what happened with that particular situation but didn't sound like any of the actual homeless folks were arrested. Theat doesn't sound so that's what i would. I would have expected would be the homeless get arrested Interesting people from boston does it. Doesn't sound like just wanting to fight the police. That's a new one for me here around here anyway. Well they're not from around. Well i get that. But so then again they try. They tried to claim that they were helping. The homeless people agencies were present and new horizons found beds for ten people but unlike or for others one of the homeless folks said the news was cold comfort. He said he'll probably be going to jail because this doesn't help him. As the dismantling of the camp continued many of those being moved said solution being offered by the state is no solution at all. And they believe they'll be back out on the streets in a couple of days one of them Bobby was a self described. Heroin addict said quote. The problem is that you get into that housing and if you use it one time you get kicked out so you end up right back where you started. He said he said he's not ready to quit heroin. So the shelters aren't an option for him. He says i use it to alleviate the pain the heartache the everything that i don't know how else to deal with he said we go to your phone calls and thoughts. Mike is on the line. he's in gold bar washington. Mike you're on your head mike there. You're here you're here even us. I'm guessing you can't hear well. I can't hear you standby wanna put you back on. Hold there sometimes. The board ops got a button that needs to be pressed and it probably isn't pressed in order for you to hear us. We'll check back with you here in just a moment. I know mike had called previously about a similar situation in gold bar where homeless folks had set up a camp like in the parking lot apparently with the city halls permission in gold bars case. So maybe he's calling to give us an update on that. At least that's what. I recall from from one of his previous calls. Little bit more here from the story so the mayor in manchester her. Name's joyce craig. She had harsh words for the removal. She said this action from the state is inhumane causing trauma to individuals with nowhere else to go. Well lady i got news for you. The state is not a humane agency and the state is an agency of coercive force. It is a group of people who have a monopoly on the use of violence and they can do what they want and get away with it because if you don't think the way the state police handled this was proper and i imagine a lot of people won't feel that way especially after you see the footage again we haven't seen it yet But you know kicking people out of out of tents who otherwise weren't doing anything to cause any problem right there just sleeping on the state property. It's public property rights. So shouldn't you be able to sleep on humor by the humorous thing about this is that the state doesn't do any good and then they harm so and this is just the demonstration of that harm you think if it was public property. The public should be allowed on that property. But it's not it's really you know. It's their their proper. And that's well you think they're defendant with them no homelessness without a government. Because i'd be a lot less. I i can imagine. I don't believe there's any way that individuals could hold and defend their own expense every single square foot of property in the united states especially since most of it is generating no income at all In in its current use so it seems to me like a no brainer that in any i mean unless you're maybe in japan or something in any free society there's going to be some unknown glad and i say her japan because it's an island is very small indeed and and so and you may even have a situation like we we mention keyword property owners would donate their land. Would say come on you and you know. It's a lot of the problems is that they're they're actually taking money either. Depriving people of the funds that they need in order put a roof over their head and feet them. So who's taking them out of the city the state All these laws that increase the cost of housing and so on whereas in the example that we had in keene here with The homeless shelter where they built a. We're not the homeless shelter. But the the encampment and cam where they built a structure that city came in and said they couldn't have it so not as they could not afford. They could not afford to hire the planners or the construction company obscene amounts of money. You know the inspectors probably right conscious fifty thousand dollars for their they're literally ensuring that people You know stay out literal on history and all of it Press certified well. All of it is precipitated on the idea that oh will. They're endanger right. Oh this is an unsafe. Structure could catch fire. We'll it could but it's the risk that they've decided they're willing to take in order to protect a little bit warmer right in order to. Yeah and it's you know it's it's not your up to you to decide how safe somebody else is. It's up to them to decide how much what their risk grisham he will be held liable liable for the for the homeless shelter a homeless shelter. That has been built out of cardboard or whatever in the woods somewhere and if somebody knocks over a candle or something and it catches fire and somebody dies. 'cause that's the concern right. Somebody's gonna die. There's no liability on the part of anyone for that. No muslim except for over knocked a candle over which is also actually a way that the state contributes to homelessness is. You can't sign a binding release with anyone for anything anymore and so you know back. In the day there was a time when somebody could have said well. Yeah you can. You can live on land for free but nia know. There's there's there's. Wombat sim in all kinds. All manner wildlife and they might eat you and so you're gonna have to sign a I can't do the accent anymore. So you're going to have to sign a release so if you get eaten by wombats you don't do you know your family doesn't do well now. Releases aren't binding anymore inside release and still so so people are just like well. I'd love to have you stay on my land. But not safe for me right. Because of the litigious society in deed and the state that makes that possible. because exactly. that's another thing that wouldn't be possible without a state that will go to to To get it's well done craig. The mayor in manchester said. Some people's possessions were destroyed and they were separated from their case workers. She said in order to provide housing to the remaining people evicted from the state property the city coordinated efforts with cafe twelve sixty nine and they are standing up in emergency shelter in the city. She said in a joint statement officials with the department of health and human services the department of justice and department of safety said all residents of the camp repeatedly have been offered alternative housing and other services. They said twenty seven people had left the camp after accepting services and another six left friday morning after accepting those services. Our toll free number is eight hundred fifty five four fifty free. That's eight five five four five zero three seven three three. We're talking about a another example of many times. This has happened in various. Different governmental area jurisdictions. Whatever you wanna call them where they target homeless people in this case. It was right on the state court property. There's a superior court building in downtown manchester that We've been to a myriad of times for various different trials of activists that has been littered with tents over recent weeks. I don't know how long they were there for. Do you know Nobody long those tents. Nobody there yeah i. I'm not sure either but it seems like something that happened during the whole covid situation. I don't think it was much longer than Over the summer perhaps but they did come in today apparently in the morning not during the nighttime hours as they were expected earlier this week but state police agents did come in and essentially raided the camp. Today they packed up their stuff. They may have cut tense. We have not seen the evidence of that claim yet but they got rid of the homeless people from the property. They gave a few dozen of them so called services. I don't know exactly what that means. those who didn't leave the camp were issued summonses for illegal camping which is a violation level. Offense and to people who continue to refuse to leave were arrested and charged with criminal trespass according to state bureaucrats officials from the attorney. General's office says the state has been working with the homeless residents since the summer and couldn't wait any longer to clear the property saying quote the people who ended up leaving today and not taking alternative housing made that choice on their own and they have every right to do that but they don't have a right to be camping on state property. A temporary fence was set up and officials with the attorney. General's office said a permanent one will be installed so that's their solution is now because somebody went ahead and pitch to ten on what they thought was public property and of course this is one of the mythologies of the state is then public means yours now but just because you're first a gun forced at gunpoint to pay for it doesn't mean your sao paulo government property but darn well wasn't open to the public. Well that's the thing. Chris there it. There's a lot of confusion when it comes to legal terminology and so there is what the word means in english and then there's what the word means legalese and the word public in common parlance means open to the public open to everybody and creates a public park. You can go in a public place you can go to that place. Your part of the public is what they want you to believe but the reality is whenever you hear. A government agent used the term public. They're actually talking about themselves so when they say it's public property they mean it's mighty dares it's state if i'm the cop. Yup it's my it's my you know gangs proper. That's correct and you can't be here. That's exactly right we will set the hers. Yeah we'll set the rules for public land and it will be our rules in the government's rules and you will have no say in. We'll let you have a hearing you. Can you can come to the public hearing where the public will hear you right. What does it mean when you hear someone versus listening to them. Is there a difference. Well if you can regurgitate what. They're saying then i guess you're you're you're that's some proof that you've you've listened right. Listen to them. But i can hear sounds without listening to them. So if you're talking in the background. And i'm busy doing something like let's say i'm distracted by my phone or i've got a paperwork to fill out or something and you're talking to me. I may not actually be listening to you. Even though i am hearing so i know that you're talking but i don't know what you're saying because i'm distracted. I'm not paying attention right. So there's a difference. That's the difference between hearing and listening. Right is you're paying attention to somebody so a public hearing is where they're hearing you and they're the public and if they don't want you to speak you won't be allowed to if they tell you that you are not allowed to continue speaking and you keep speaking. They'll send their cops to put you in a jail cell. So they said all the rules cage. There was When your discussion of Public versus actually public property reminded me of a itchy quote government. He says is. The coldest divall called monsters coldly. It lies in this lies slips from its mouth. I the government m the people Everything the government says is a lie and everything. The government has stolen us. That's a great quote ruth. Yeah so whenever you hear. The word public being used just put the word government instead public schools. No government schools. They're not open to the public to go to try to walk into a government school and see what happens. You'll be lucky if you can even get in the front door. Because they're locked Luckier if you don't get in the front door i've been in those places. Yeah no doubt. And when i say locked down i don't mean it's a twenty twenty thing i mean. At all times. I remember i went to. There was a time when i had a speaking engagement at in front of a high school class like within the last decade. It was me and garett. Ian mark morton the porcupine realtor. We had gotten because garrett's mom was actually a teacher at school so she invited three of us So she invited. The three of us in to kind of speak to the class about libertarian activism. Kind of stuff. It was fun and it was a it was a good time. I'm glad that i that. I did it in lots of good questions from from the students and that sort of thing but in order to get into the school i had to stop in like an airlock that they had like the two two different doors on different sides right so one doors open. You go in there and you can't go in the door. It's all like the jail doors jail exactly now. Absolutely serious was like a decade ago. Now and so. There's a desk right like behind a window how they've ever been had that setup. I think you probably haven't been in school in a long time. I haven't. it's been twenty years at least but things are different now. Yeah and so there you know. There's an agent behind the window. Who works for the school and she checks you in and you know real to sign a form and that the school was i went to like. We're not even like they wouldn't have been able to have done that because they were separate. Bill like lots ever billion kind of like a college campus. I know she mean like an outdoor with pods or whatever now no like buildings. So i guess that's what i mean. Building means they might call them someplace they call them pods school that i went to in florida. Yeah that school now. That was very open. It was sold as being very open. It is now surrounded by a fence. So how do they do. They have like a gate or something. yeah they have more than one. They multiple entrances to this. What was formerly an open campus. In order to keep people out that is so weird and it's really creepy to somebody who went to that school in the past had gone to visit within the last five or so years and they took photos of it and it's like really creepy. It used to be really this open. Campus you now. It's totally fear. Is that their schools. And i've seen this i. I knew somebody who went to a school where they'd barbed wire around the school. That's not that's not a new thing that's been getting it's not even it wasn't even just like keeping people out keeps them in. He keeps people in. Of course it does. What on earth like. You're literally and looks like a prison. It's like why do you need bar. We're in than you know if he if he found some bowie. Intolerable you wouldn't you wouldn't have to shoot the place up you can make this. Wasn't like an inner city school either. It's like it's it's so messed up. It is and there's a lot of that stuff going on so if you wanna comment on all of this stuff you're welcome to join us. The toll free number is eight fifty. Five four fifty. I i remember. When i first noticed this chris i was i was a kid and i noticed that there was this similarity between the school and the jail in downtown sarasota the school that i went to elementary and it turns out the same architect built both building so they're literally were very similar design. It was this same. Yeah yeah who led us. That's nearly always the case. I know that was the case in my town as well and of course there's the buses they are the same they're just differently colored right kids buses or yellow. The jail buses are white or blue or whatever so many similarities. So if you wanna comment please join us here again there so there talking about putting a temporary fence and then building a permanent fence now. I presume that it's just for the yard areas right so for those. That aren't familiar with the property. Most of this properties occupied by the courthouse. It's not a huge block or anything like that. It's just like a city block and it's mostly the court said there's a parking lot for the bureaucrats on one side. There's the hold on a park on the other side like so veterans park. As on the say what. I saw them camping on look like parked. No they were on the side of the at least one side. Maybe both but they were on one side building. I'm sorry it was a lawn nine apart but a lot. And that's what i'm saying next to a building is to me my mind like a park. There's a park behind the actual park next to it but eight fifty four fifty free. It was a lawn. Yeah that's the part that. I think they're putting the fence up around just weird. It's ian chris and nobody here in the studio tonight. We've been talking about the whole encampment in manchester new hampshire that has been targeted today for. Take down. They have basically run everybody off. They've put up a temporary fence. Apparently around what you would describe as just a yard or a park or something sort of on the side of the court building. It's a law by by. Yeah i think any definition. It's a fraction of the size of the park. There's a large park behind it called veteran's park and i don't think they're going to be putting a fence up around that would benefit offensive right. Exactly how would you get into it. That's going of apart. I imagine they're going to be making this kiss yard just for the state court employees now or something. I don't know what their plan is is. Just gonna fence it off and figure they've they've done their jobs. That's part of this of the whole. That's the point of this. Lawn is for to look around. It totally defeats the purpose of a line in the first place. Now i get. I get the argument that it also doesn't look nice if there's a bunch of homeless people that are on you know on your lawn of making people homeless as you pointed out nobody. It's a lot of the time. The state policies themselves various different ones that drive people to to being homeless. And we haven't even seen the tip of the iceberg yet. They're going to be a lot of homeless people when when they finally you know when either people lose you know. Landlords lose their buildings because they've they've been full of people who can't pay their rent right and the landlords can't pay property taxes if they can't have The rent is being paid. They don't have the money to pay property tax. Yeah hey we're gonna shut down everybody's business so we can steal everybody's property that's rapper and that's going to have an impact on on how the market housing market because those buildings are going to get sold off at cheap prices but they're likely not going to get sold again abandoned because the city's screw this up every time the bank's screw this up when there's nobody buying is. Nobody has any money what happened. And then they're gonna fall apart and working to me all are gonna end up just being poor. All you have to do is look at detroit in there because they used to live nearby. Nobody oh yeah. I mean you probably know this better than than than we thought. We saw it happening but seventies. We used to have t shirts that said with the last person out at out out of detroit. Please turn out the lights. Well we'll do. The person hasn't but they still people who've lived detroit. The number of people living in detroit went from down to like five thousand. Now i think it is. Is that right. Yes about half a million now. Last i heard and of course a lot of the properties. There have been completely gutted. So people had left those properties and people that were desperate for for money would go in and steal the copper out of the common and things like that so if you bought a home there you can get a real good deal. It's a gutted pro- property and a lot of folks. Were leaving as i understand it. Correct me if i'm wrong on this. They owed money. They couldn't pay essentially to make whether it be the bank or back property taxes or whatever and so the city then takes the property property taxes. Were big if it's property taxes. The city will take the proper if a debt to abandon the take. The problem was that it doesn't matter who the debt was to ultimately ended the day because people are making enough money to pay can't pay whether it's taxes or or the bag lose their house and they need lower the taxes so and then the house gets you know ransacked by people who are so poor they have to steal copper for a living and so basically. You've got this completely useless. Shell of a house that no one's going to purchase on the market as their doesn't want to try and repair. The damage is gonna caution houses where you have to just to do that built. Why would you wanna be on it for a dollar which is why right. Which is why they're tearing down all the houses because they're they're not worth anything to anybody. And why would you want to build a new house in the middle of wouldn't which is why five hundred thousand people now as opposed to millions of people in the past our partner of it anyway. So and you know. There's there's no good solution here for these homeless people today. I mean you're you're right. Nobody if we could get rid of the government and all of its wars on drugs and all these other things crushing people's businesses and all the covid restrictions. There's so many different reasons why people are having a difficult time especially more so now than than ever before. But unfortunately we can't just you know legal arnott's and blinker is and have the state disappear tomorrow. So meanwhile you've got dozens of why we need a are fifteen why you now have dozens of homeless people on the streets in in manchester. Because they've been kicked out of their homes which were the tents on the state property and of course all of this is ultimately Tragedy of the commons right. So if the state has a public property then people get to fight over it so some people say well. Why don't you let people have their homeless camp. Why don't you other people say well. It's an eyesore. We don't want homeless people around like that you know they're they're doing drugs and the kids will see it and you know there's different arguments right so different sides of these people. Well let's thing all these people are living there and they pay taxes to the same agency and they all have you know disagreements over how this should be handled. Some people want to see the cops come in there and bust heads other people want to see these people being you know given free hotel rooms. Yeah i know you don't have to have any heads busted or have other people bus heads if you go into partnership and you acquire the land is part of that agreement but the problem is that's not what happened. All this land was just acquired. It was magically controlled by a central entity not through the agreement of the people but through force so and they. They try to pretend like oh this. It's your land to this whole mythology. But it's not if i don't it's not if it's under my control and i decide to live there and decide the partner with that agreement the no and this is proof and and you don't have a choice of going somewhere else because their government everywhere trent. So if you wanna comment join us here toll. Free numbers eight fifty. Five four fifty free in other news. Here in new hampshire the governor aka his excellency christie new announced yesterday that There will be a mask mandate statewide starting today and we covered this last night on the show. But i don't know. Did we cover that. There's going to be a protest last night. I don't think we did. I don't know either way. It bears repeating because to get out there. Yeah we're going. Sunday sunday sunday. Two o'clock in the afternoon. It'll be at the governor's house. The governor is having a party right. There will be a party at governor sununu news home at seventy one hemlock court in new fields new hampshire i posted a blog post freaking dot com including his address and photo of the house in case anyone's confused about which one it is We have that. And it's thanks to the government's records by the way because they've got records including photographs of all of the houses so we're certain this is the right place and we're expecting. I hope those records are more accurate than some other government records. I mean i presume this is the right house. There's only three houses around and we've you know you can look up the owner of things right so like every city has some sort of statutory obligation to have property records available online. So if you know interesting. I was aware i was aware that there were property. Records online new hampshire about. It was every city everywhere. I am pretty sure because this is a pretty small town. I mean i never even heard of new fields new hampshire before. But they have it. I know i know property records online. Keenness yetter yeah. I was surprised. I actually looked at a couple different. Towns. 'cause i won't say who who the other property we're looking at is because that would reveal too much but suffice it to say these bureaucrats own these homes under their own names and so you can confirm. This is christner's house so we'll be there on sunday. Keen activists are heading out there. There's gonna be activists from across the state. Some of them would probably be libertarians. But others might just be you know against covid crackdowns and that sort of thing so it should be mixed bag of activists people are going to be bringing their kids out to this one. So that'll be fun. There was talk about bringing a guillotine out and letting the kids play on the guillotine man. That's awesome. I don't think anyone has a guillotine yet. That's what i say. There was just talk to build one really nice one and interestingly enough it costs about twelve hundred bucks certainly oh well. Coming up a austrian court ruling could censor the internet. Chris has to why that story. That sounds pretty scary. We'll get into that story. He and chris and nobody in studio here tonight. Of course we'll take your calls and thoughts about whatever is on your mind. Our number is eight fifty five four fifty free like freedom. That's eight five five four five zero three seven three three so we were talking about an upcoming protest scheduled at the governor's home and we're announcing this publicly now. It's going to be the first one that has to my knowledge ever happened. I mean i've been doing activism here now for a decade and a half roughly and i've never heard anyone going to the governor's house before now we've done we've done protests outside of bureaucrats homes in keen. Like we've been to judge burks house on. I think at least a few times in the past. I've been about a decade. He's actually no longer the judge. Here's retired but as he fully retired zoos working part time i thought for a while. I don't know if he's still on a part time. Basis or nominees. He's retired and getting his pension. But so we've been there. We've been out in front of police houses before we've been in front of rivera's house. He's the current sheriff but this was back when he was like a police sergeant and he put He put one of our friends. Kurt who's calls in as lumpy from time to time to the show he put him in the hospital By a allegedly attacking him behind closed doors He also tortured sam dodson at one point when he put him in handcuffs and that was caught on audio but not not video because the camera was anyway it was just wasn't on the video and so we've we've protest out front of his house before and he lost it when he showed up to the house because he wasn't actually in the house when we were protests while we were there and so that was pretty entertaining. And let's see we also went to vinton moore's house that's the cop in the derek. J. victimless crime. Spree video that sticks. An aspen is bicycle. Tires spicer knocked him on his ass. Yeah we went to Went to his house video. It was crazy so you can see that a victimless crime. Spree dot com. If you've never seen that moving so we've got. We've got some experience doing this here in keene but i never heard of anybody. Doing it at the governor's house before. Now in new hampshire. There is not a well supposedly. There's like a governor's mansion but that's not where the governor actually lives. that's sort of. It's been as i understand it. A tradition in new hampshire where the governor's just live their own homes and they don't actually live in the governor's mansion. I don't know if there ever was. There might have been in the past governors. Who did live in the mansion. But at some point they're just began this some some traditions. Somebody probably started it. Just kind of the idea of art. Governors are more down to earth right like they live in their own their own homes. And that's kind of a cool thing but this guy's a total tyrant at those excellent very down to earth. I know he is. He definitely believes he's better than everybody else. And he's a total tyrant so we're going to bring the consequences to his house because he brought the consequences to our homes by destroying people's lives by putting people out into the streets by destroying jobs by shutting down businesses across the state with his so-called. Stay at home. Orders demanding that people who have so called non essential businesses not go to work and not run their businesses. So he's gone into our homes so there's nothing wrong with his home so presumably. He made an exception for himself. What do you mean. well. I mean presumably. He can go work right and continue to give but horse the government they have to work. It's just they won't let you in right so there was actually an interesting This the new guy who's kind of the ultimate on essential job though making. Yeah you could totally cut them out. And we'd be fine really. In fact there was a this point was made actually by joe who is the new Mover to new hampshire he's the first amendment auditor guy. He's got a youtube channel called last night about Some of his adventures could say his channel is called breaking the flaw and he does a really good job. I was watching a couple of his videos last night. I'd seen seen one previously but it was one of his livestreams like three hours long to watch those videos because it just makes me so angry so yeah so. Let me summarize it for you. Go summarize it so. He and this was a shorter one. Hand like a fifteen minute one because normally if you catch him he's doing in the middle of a three hour livestream. He's doing something somewhere. And so he cut this part out of of one of his livestream video tape this so he's in the town of lebanon which is like an hour ten minutes to the north of here. It's sort of like the larger city to the north of keen basically because the largest city of kim. I don't know if it's larger in population but it's like one sees north. You know is a larger thinking. It's because it's on the interstate so right up ninety one. It's literally right on. We don't have that benefit right so like if you've got an interstate going through a city there's usually more commercial activity anyway. So he's in the downtown at the city hall. And i'd never actually been to this part eleven. I've been through it. But i've never been to the downtown. Yeah i've been up in that region. It didn't seem that big to me but Yeah i'm not saying it's big a the bigger city north of understood. It doesn't mean it's big new hampshire keene and big. Yeah yeah a lot of room. It's a city north of keene. Okay and so he's in downtown is at the city hall. And he's a first amendment auditor. So he his thing. His activism is to get a video camera. he's got it mounted to him or something. He's got a pretty steady cam sort of thing going on. They're not allowed to shake. It's a nice quality picture in what's good. And so he's he wants to go to city hall. He just wants to go and record video which is supposed to be his right to do in public so-called public buildings and he shows up in their signs up on the door city hall is has moved to a different location. So he's like all right well over to this other location. And then he's being told by people that city halls closed and so he shows up at the the new city hall and the front doors open so he goes in. And there's no sign up saying it's closed or anything like that. He was not that. I not that i noticed her. He noticed in the video. So then there's another set of doors inside those are open so he goes inside those doors. And there's a man coming out from the sanctum or whatever with like a some sort of load of books or stacks of books that he's he's sort of pulling out on a wheelbarrow or something like that and this guy stops and he asked him if he needs if he needs something and he asked well is city hall open and he says no. It's it's closed so like well. How am i supposed to do business. 'cause you know that's what city always calls. What the even though. What they do is actually violence. They always use the term business. Sir do you have business with the city. and he. he's like well. What kind of business do you have. She says well. I don't know anything i want. It's like he just wants to go in and record video bizet's right to do that and this guy's refuses to let him in and the door closes and so he's still in this like vestibule area where he's in city hall but he's not all the way in city hall. So the bureaucrat. Takes his load of books out to the front. And joe has just kind of in this area. And he's sort of just recording things right like sh- shooting the different signs up and looking through and just commenting on the bureaucrats. There's bureaucrats in there like can see. Yeah and so this guy comes back in the guy with a low books he comes back in and this time the guy with a little book says you need to get a mask on if you're going to be in here or something like that right. So the recent video. This is like within the last week or so. Oh wow two weeks within two weeks from now. He's the biggest videos like this almost every day. I think so going to different towns and just doing these things. Yeah yeah so the the bureaucrat. Didn't say anything about the mask. Initially but when he comes back in then he makes an issue with joe and not having a mask. I'm curious if the bureaucrat himself was wearing a mask originally okay west so he makes an issue of this show us. I'm exempt and the guy says well you have to leave. It says we'll wait. You can't kick nonexempt. You have no right to kick me out of a public building. And he says yes. I do or whatever any basically says. I'm calling the cops. So the bureaucrat. Pulls out his phone and and literally dials. Nine one one. Or whatever calls the police on this first amendment auditor guy because he didn't have a mask on in the in the city lobby okay and so then the then he goes so he sort of lets him know. Hey look or when he was on the phone when the key when the bureaucrat was on the phone with the cops he claims that we have a Trespasser here and joe as you can hear joe. He's like wait a minute. You didn't tell me. I was trespassing. Now you're going to get now. You're going to trespass me all right. Well i'll leave. So then he kinda like. Does the dave ridley backs off and backs out of the building. He didn't rush out or anything like that. But there's nothing else to do in there anyway. He recorded at their closed and so he goes outside and then the cops show up and of course. They don't do anything because he didn't do anything illegal at that point but he doesn't interesting work i think he's doing he's doing some good work and he's he does it alone like he's not there with anybody it's just him and his camera. We should always with you. Well there's no but there's no budget for that i Eight fifty five four fifty free. That's eight five five four or five zero three seven three three. We were just talking about first amendment audits and what led me to bring that up in the first place the discussion about what happened with joel. Over at the flaw on youtube when he was in lebanon was that he tried to go into a closed. Government city hall closed. It's hard. it's hard for me to think that building his close when there's no when the doors not law there are no signs on it and it's like you can literally just walk in. Well there were signs. But i don't think it said that they were closed and always have city hall always says multiple signs keen. They're open you can go in. I've gone in. I've paid the water bill at the city hall. So you know. They're already behind glass. They were already doing that already. Have like regular our skill set for city hall being open and when they be or or things inside city hall to be open like different meaning keener in lebanon city. You would think they'll normally building itself will be open. And then they would be things in the city hall. Like i don't know maybe parking lot in lebanon or you know whatever it is a is in city hall in lebanon. You can't go in and go into the entryway but you can't go into the actual bureaucracy area. okay now. they're using covert as the excuse for this right okay. Because they were claiming that oh we had to move city hall because there wasn't enough room for so called social distancing. One of the bureaucrats says this to him in the in the video and so we had to move city hall. Still not open yet. We're going to open next week or or in two weeks or something like that some arbitrary amount of time But the reason. I brought this story up in the first place was the idea. That government has always been hard to deal with. It's always been frustrating. It's always been inaccessible or hard to access. It's been you know explosives to cold laatste. It's awful it's awful an awful experience to deal with with the state people and now it's even worse than it's ever been now you can't go into a courthouse i've tried you cannot You know unless you are the person who's got the trial they're not gonna let you into the courthouse. Even though he's try miss isn't isn't aren't trials open to the public is yeah. He was working. That is the way it's supposed to Minor recording the constitution. Yeah that's the way it's supposed to be but that's not what's happening and city council meetings a lot of those completely closed now. You can't go into the city council meetings. They're having them on zoom. Oh well it's accessible now on zoom. Well no i can't. It's not the stunned zoo. You can be silenced. Exactly and they have no people watching. Don't know how many people are there right like whereas if you're in the room you know it's well attended. Shooting zun requires a computer requires an what about people without air. A lot of things and i would. I can't use zoom either like it doesn't. It's not free officer work for me. Yeah you know yeah. So what about never zoom the knicks about running it on lenox. It's their proprietary yourself. If you don't have a computer you are effectively. Shut completely out of the system. You cannot go to a meeting if you don't have some electric or is there some sort of requirement for it to be open in law. Yes it's so that it's no. It's not a law. It's the constitution of new hampshire third of the lutely in violation of the article of the new hampshire constitution. And they don't care so the point being you can't even go into the city Some of these city halls. You can't get any kind of accountability. You came and talk to these people. You can't see who they are now. They've got masks on. So unless you already know who the person is and you can recognize them with a mask on. You don't know turns out the bureaucrat. That was giving this guy a hard time over the mask. He added glance. He just looked like a worker. Well he's the city manager so the the city manager was being rude and threatening and towards towards joe from breaking the flaw so any point identify himself to he did but only when he was on the phone with the police identified himself to the police so he never identified himself to joel standing. It's hard argument to make that. You know he was trespassing. Reasons blades person. Who told him he. There had any legal authority to article eight in case anybody's wondering says all power residing originally in and being derived from the people all the magic all the magistrates magistrates and officers of government are there substitutes and agents and at all times accountable to them their agent government therefore should be open assessable accountable and responsive yet none of that in the public's right of access to government proceedings and records shall not be unreasonably restricted. The public has a right to an orderly lawful and accountable government therefore any individual tax payer eligible to vote in state shall have standing petition the superior court to declare whether the state or political subdivision in which tax payer zeid's has spent or has approved spending public funds in violation of law ordinance sir impaired or prejudiced beyond his his or her status as a tax payer. However this right shall not apply when the challenged governmental action is the subject of a judicial or administrative decision first few sentences of appeal by statute or otherwise by the party that are parties to that are the last several sentences. There are recent if you look at the date on it that was actually added by the there was a vote actually like probably within the last four years where people add an eighteen. Yeah all that accountability language that you you read. The relevant portion was the first couple lines where it said that the government has the right to be a or. It has to be open and accountable. And all that and it's not it's not not in any way shape or form and in the past. They could've argued that. Oh yeah you can come in and you can't. Oh well now you into the courthouse. Well now you can't and you know what you still have to pay so it's less accountable than it's ever been. Everyone show up to collect the taxes. You should tell close. You know what we need to do is have a tea party because we don't have the representation. We don't have access government. We don't have all the things that the party you know. We throughout the you know the tea overboard or we obviously didn't but that was the whole protest against the british and that's how that got started was throwing the because of the taxation without representation. Well now you have article ten. Which is your right to revolution right which has never worked in any court that you know government being instituted for the common benefit protection and security of the whole community and not for the private interest or a moment anyone man family or class of man therefore whenever the ends of government or perverted and public liberty manifestly endangered. All other. means of redress are ineffectual. The people may write off to reform the older established a new government. There closed permanently if and those were numbers from the summertime. so i don't know what the current status is on that and a lot of places are locking down even further now So more businesses are going to go out of business. This wintertime guaranteed guaranteed. People are gonna lose their jobs at the end of the year because people are gonna look at the run the numbers and say we can't. This isn't sustainable. We got a fire people. We gotta cut back if they want their doors but the government get the gang isn't cutting back. They're not firing people. They're closing their doors in just still doing their thing inside. You have no access anymore and the whole thing. I mean if it wasn't clear before that these people if it wasn't clear prior to twenty twenty that you had no real voice in government it should be crystal clear to you now because you cannot have access. we don't even realize that they don't have a voice because they don't even try try try but we've tried and and have been trying for a long time and we know how futile is to try try. It's very difficult process. And you know it was always unfriendly and lots of pushback. Now you can't even get in actually kind of funny. Because i mean funny in some ways in that we've actually had i feel like we do. We have had more success and more of a voice here new hampshire than anywhere else. Like us Libert liberty minded people but it certainly certainly been the case but at the same time it is still like. It's still a lot of its lip service. Yeah you know and pay lip service at the things like the constitution. When they're clearly in violation of it. I mean arguably. Even the governor's orders the so-called emergency orders are arguably unconstitutional right because he's essentially legislating from the gubernatorial seed which is an executive season. If you believe the the garbage they taught you in elementary school about governments in the separation of powers. Then i've got a bridge. i want to sell. Yeah then you know that the theory is is that the legislature is supposed to write a bill and then they're supposed to pass the bill and then the governors decided they didn't do that but the legislature passed some bill at some point. They authorize the do whatever he wants to declare emergency. That's right they did do that. And that's what. I'm saying is probably unconstitutional. But i don't know if anyone's ever challenged to the supreme court. And i don't know if the supreme court would agree what's interesting is in other states. They have i think challenge to and one cases like pennsylvania or at least on some aspects of it. Yeah there's been a few cases where on certain aspects they've challenged you know certain facets of the orders but they have not overturned the executive order or the emergency order statutes. Okay so what they'll say as. Oh the governor did pass this emergency order. But then he renewed it improperly so they won't say that the original emergency order was improper. They'll say the renewal of it was. They've never there's been a court case deciding whether or not you know. The the legislator legislative shirt can be passed such that authorizes the governor to act in. Its place to pass laws or foreigners. Whatever to my knowledge there has not been a successful challenge to the actual. I don't know. I mean obviously. I don't know for sure but i haven't heard anything. There's a long tradition of it. I mean the laura powers act is a great example. The power to wage war and conclude peace is supposed to be in the hands of the congress yet. The president just sends troops everywhere downstream. So and of course. This isn't going to change anytime soon. Because well in order for the state to others the legislature to remove the emergency powers. They would need his signature or veto override and they don't have enough people to veto override because the democrats are gonna stay with the governor on this. The democrats are going to want the governor to have that power so even if all the republicans voted against the governor which say wouldn't do but even they all did. It still wouldn't be enough to take away the power from it so it would have to go through the courts in order to. That would be one way to do it. I would there be any other way effectively. That might work because as far as i just. Override the governor's veto. That would be it but obviously we don't have the numbers to do so there were the only other way would theoretically be to go through. The court says theoretically and maybe across our fingers but chances are probably fell the best way to do it of course would be to completely ignore the government if we had enough people willing to do that but we don't have that either no so there are no good options here. At this point the best thing we can do is just ignore the orders and continue living our life the way we want to but unfortunately the business owners are put under a lot more pressure so there were as i mentioned in the story that i wrote today. Over at freaking dot com. There were a few businesses recently that we're actually find by the governor's gang so his attorney general's a man from california by the way. Not even from new hampshire this attorney general. Here in new hampshire is named gordon macdonald he targeted these businesses. One of them is a bar in the town of hudson new hampshire for hosting karaoke and find them two thousand dollars and then this week this back in october this week they went after three more businesses different food establishments where they didn't have masks on i guess and people complained and the government goons came in and threaten them and they still didn't put masks on so they threatened them again and then they wrote in these five hundred dollar fines. Well i looked at the the business in hudson the karaoke bar I went to see. 'cause i was wondering is anybody. Pushing back is refusing to To pay the fines or fighting or going to court and the karaoke bar apparently has been sold. So there's new ownership and they're bragging on their facebook page about how obedient their karaoke now so if they're doing karaoke but it's outdoors only and you have to bring your own microphone. Wow so no As far as the answer to wear a condom. I don't think he had to put over the microphone but You know used to bring your own. Because they don't want you to share because covid cetera et cetera. So no standing up not the karaoke bar. I suspect they're going to. I suspect the terms of the purchase of the bar included paying the fine. That was due. Would be my guess. I imagine they're paying us. I'm wondering i is the fine to the business. And then could they. Could they be responsible for the liabilities but sell the business part of it. Or i don't know that says it's under new ownership and management so whoever it was just fine. Isn't there anymore you you could sell the business potentially and then fight the fine fight the ticket. I don't know who they issue the fine. I suspect the fine could be issued either to the owner or the company. I don't know how that works of brit level. That's a good question but yeah so not a whole lot of fighting going on now. Of course here. In in keene we do have a fighter in the form of keen. Great which is little five vietnamese restaurant or anything thank goodness she has not no. Interestingly and she doesn't wear a mask yeah. You know it's interesting too because you know she stood up and didn't let them abuse her right and nothing. They haven't come results they haven't done haven't they haven't come in and and you know told her what to do and it's because she stood up before they even had a chance and like okay. Well now we're not gonna. We're not gonna mess with this. We're not gonna. And that's the way a bully behaves. Yeah you know. A bully is going to pick on the easy mark. The bullies going to pick on the kid. That's you know not standing tall. None making eye contact. They have a certain demeanor about them. That makes them more likely to be victimized. And that's how all these businesses are. They're all cowards. They just cower and they're afraid and they do what they're told but a business owner that actually stands up. It's funny that they haven't done anything to her isn't it. Then she's renting from the city of keene so it's not like they don't know she's there yet more coming up here. This is free talk. So i think we pretty much covered. The whole government is more accessible than ever topic. And we're going to move onto censorship in this case global censorship of the internet. Chris you've got a story coming out of austria where apparently there's a ruling that some people are saying may actually result in the censorship of the internet on a global scale. So i'm curious how that's going to out. And where's the story from so this is coming from slate in. Yeah that's the title of story is a court ruling. Austria could get could the internet worldwide. So and this is this is not this is not something that is entirely new. It's something that has been discussed umprire occasions because you know of the european union. They passed Oh gdp are. I don't think it was a gdp are I think there was one prior to this. But it's kind of under the same scope of where you could demand that google removed. Oh yeah remove your or remove links to or search results two stories that were no longer relevant. They don't like the way it was talked about it and that was before. Gdp are that was like maybe a couple years before that. I remember it was a couple of years but it was a couple of months at least no more than maybe. It was a year but it was not a couple. It was a while because we definitely talked about here when it happened. It was a case. I believe out of france. And some some whiner in france had complained because certain articles about him were available through google and he sued and i i think it went to the international court or the european high court or something like that because even though it was a french frenchman at somehow affected the entire eu. Yeah and it basically. Yeah made made it so google since they had like a locus some sort of office in the eu said. Well this applies to you because you have a business here and so there's apparently some sort of form or some website on google that you go to and say remove this and removed this and this. I don't like it. it's you know there's something to be said about not having your self in multiple different places simultaneously business self from a well. Yeah for your business self and just period right. If you're in two states at the same time well you could be breaking laws at the same time. It's kind of hard for a human to be in more than one state but you could. You can live between two states maybe in your only following once it was at a time probably but yeah i mean it's still depends who you ask the. Us government will will love to chase you around the world with their yes rule sister pay taxes. Even if you don't live here yeah and it's the only count country. That does that. From what i understand. Yeah it is what. I understand as. Well so yeah. I'm so let's see here so so now what are they doing. Yeah so so mean. I'll start from beginning so a little more than a year ago. I wrote with the concern about the risk that a single e you court within a single member state would become the sensor for the world that fear has become reality rolling in september. The first reported on thursday australian supreme court ordered persuade to local defamation rules that facebook remove a post insulting a former green party leader. Yeah keep equivalent posts site and do so on a global scale meaning that that it would remove the post completely exactly so you know. It's i don't hold on for you. Because the original google ruling that had happened was only that google had to remove it from european results so that they would have to remove it from us or south america right. That's correct so so this is saying we would strike this from the entire database depend on a defamation cases a little bit different than the i can't remember the law but that other law okay because indefinite Right to be forgotten right. That's what it was right to be forgotten yet so right to be forgotten basically. It doesn't really matter what it is. If it's like something of a personal nature relating to you can admit that it'd be taking off. Google effectively okay And this in this case. This is defamation. So it's a different set of laws and there's at least some sort of a court case i believe involved whereas other one there isn't any kind of court case but what's disturbing about. It is that it applies theoretically worldwide to the extent that you're within their jurisdiction and google is going to be within their jurisdiction by way of having offices employees etc within these territories. What they should just close down your office. I know. I wish they would have you guys. We're going home right so this is interesting so i actually have another story about pakistan passing a i think some sort of censorship was well And they are basically everybody. All the major corporations are basically exiting them at pakistan market in protest. And so they're kind of ganging up like all the big corporations like soft and google like. Everybody has ganging up and saying well. We're not going to buy your roles and we're just gonna leave king But it's a lot easier to leave pakistan than it is to leave austria or some other more wealthy country potential or large population or more profitable or whatever Now i don't i don't know if that's the case but i probably suspect that's the case in with pakistan. Just because there's there's stephanie certain markets where these companies have certainly not done just complied basically. Because they're they're they're too big and it's moving well. It's not even moving but getting out of that market potential. You're making money in that market. Otherwise you wouldn't be there you can so be it's an it's the internet right like yeah you can say your servers up somewhere else and still do business in the eu and avoid the regulation some degree but the okay. So here's the thing. So the european union would say like the gdp are they say that if you're lying if you if you for example of your website in french right Well all of a sudden they consider that to because your website since french. Even though there's other of the world also speak french that somehow might put you under the jurisdiction of the european union. Now whether it's put me under their jurisdiction. I'm not going there. I know. I know. That's what i would say. Two and one of the one of the things you know in response to that is it may not matter if they can get a enforced in the united states because of agreements between the united states european union than it doesn't really matter however that's not necessarily the case and it usually is hard to get a rolling enforcement in another country that is ruled in in another country. So that does the question then becomes if you're going to leave the eu. Where do you go because the us doesn't mean you're going to be any better off. Necessarily yes the us is behind the e u. and as far as they're cracking down on these sort of things so i mean it. C- land the best option. Where where's the best place on the planet to host a website to actually locate an internet business. The dark web paper the dark. Just shut down and you're going to be. The dark web is still the web. It's just they're trying to obscure where the server is so like. When they busted the silk road. I think it was in like ireland or iceland or something i forget where the server was actually housed. It wasn't in etiquette. Might have been innocent. It wasn't in ross's house in san francisco right like it was somewhere near. I'm thinking of Freedom hosting i think Yeah i don't remember where the server was forget but it was not. I don't think it was ross. Is i don't think it was somewhere under one of these big government jurisdictions. So my question is where's the most friendly jurisdiction on the planet to host an actual website. Where you could call someone a name or say the things you want to say without having to worry about the government goons coming in you know hanging restricting you it may. It's interesting because it kind of wall one. It may depend on what you're hosting. Okay and other factors. We'll write some. There's there's a lot of things that it's going to be hard to find jurisdiction you know that is friendly to whatever it is you're trying to host or say or whatever it might be No i i don't i don't think there is one answer. I think You know other than the dark web you know. If you're a russian you know you. May you can't generally be extradited if you're russian citizens so yup russia is the place to go. If you're in russia for certain types of certain times breaking into servers in western servers it may be a good place to host more to share about this story right okay so from austria court decision. Sounds like they may be able to tell facebook which means i can tell you or any other website to remove content that they considered to be defamatory except they have to remove it from the entirety of their site. But did they actually make the final ruling or is this a story like they might make this ruling. What's the status of what's the final ruling on. This won't come out of austrian courts. It'll be the final while the final ruling on this would be when they try to enforce this decision in another country if facebook for example. Decide what we're going to block. This tend to new york country. Here's the problem. They don't have to enforce the country because there's offices in austria. They will just take the money from the austrian bank accounts that are set up for the austrian offices. That's not necessarily case. They need to take it from you. Know let's recap faster possible but most of us don't have austrian bank account so it will only be settled for the rest of us when they try to enforce a decision outside their border. Okay but what. I understood and correct me if i'm wrong on this campus real fast so it's a facebook case. Some guy complained he was being defamed. Was green party. rap or something like that. Somebody said something mean about him on facebook he complained about. It took it to court in the european union specifically in austria. The court came back and said yes facebook. You have to remove this post globally yet. not just from australian. Austria ships are austria facebook users. Okay but all of worldwide. Yeah so did you understand that right. Nobody because it sounded like you were thinking they would. They would try to go after people outside of the country. This is to say they would have to just remove the row snot from all the global po- potential viewers. Well that's true. But if you're not in austria and you don't have any bank accounts in austria which i don't happen to have an austrian bank account so not going after the global import will really become or lack there of will really become apparent when they start when countries start trying to enforce decisions in other countries. Yeah that's not what they're talking about doing. It's different because it would be like you. The us government. Doing it to you right and your servers are here right. And then you having to remove those posts not just from the us server that you're running Or people in the us. Maxing it but people outside of the us from accessing it as well And and in another sense. It doesn't affect just facebook. It affects the users of facebook. Right so you know. Something is now censored not only in australia. But it's also being censored for people outside of austria right so that's That's that the decision here right. The court made that that decision and this could affect the entire e you and then affects the whole world. As far as the people on facebook are concerned that the people who are the people in the eu right so they australian can't complain about seeing a post they don't like but if somebody in france or elsewhere in the eu about a post. They don't like and is a good question. i guess it would depend on whether or not the australian Court decided that it was in their jurisdiction. I it sounds they would say yes. It's in their jurisdiction because it's like in on the internet. I don't know what else do we need. A good question but at least in this case it appears to be within their jurisdiction because it was in. Australia was an australian politician politician. Therefore you know again it's worldwide. This must be removed. It doesn't it's not just in austria. Yeah so it's the and austria courts ordered that facebook take down and keep off any such post end to do so around the world facebook comply but only apart employing what is known as geo blocking it made the particular post that had been identified. Inaccessible teasers within australia But he objected both to the global. Reach that were ants obligation to look for and keep other posts and that's another hugely dangerous thing. Like how are you going to keep a equivalent posting quotes off of your platform. I mean you don't have somebody monitoring every single higher and employees to every single user. What so effectively. What they're doing is sort of like the filter thing that we've been talking about on prior shows where they basically have to implement some sort of algorithm but then the question is well algorithm determine whether something similar if it uses the word. I can tell you if it uses the word bitcoin. It'd be sort of like ban. it just gets. It gets bad well. In the case of like all create apple people have ways to get around right instead of using. Let's say it was about a specific person right some some green party guy. I don't know what his name was. Joe blow And so somebody Posted about a mean thing about joe blow and then the the they say. Oh you've got to remove that and now all related joe. Blow related posts will be prohibited if they're mean but what if you spell his name differently right use a us a different letter Instead of the oh you use a zero or something like that. I'm trying to do that with A t was tatum in square. Something in square in china. They don't use the word they say nineteen eighty-four or something like that. He's eighty eight whatever they use like the year and they're speaking of two event at everybody is what thousand nine hundred eighty. Eight or whatever So it was a big event years later it was for eighty four okay members better than i thought So yeah so let's see here. It says it argue that the order violated the apple use ecommerce directive which prohibits eu member states from imposing general monitoring obligations on tech companies like facebook in october nineteen european court of justice cited with austria concluding that the e commerce directive did not stand in australia in the austrian courts. Way a ruling that is hard to reconcile with the text of the directive reasons. I won't rehash now the cj e. u. Which is i. Think the european court of something justice or whatnot Rolling set to limits l. That minimum minimal on the e u member court state courts I the obligation to look for and take down. Equivalent content must be issued with sufficient specificity to eliminate the need for independent provider assessment of that content criteria that as i and others have argued previously is premised on a largely misguided assessment of the ability and precision filtering tools. Yeah right so people with translate that. Yeah the bureaucrats don't understand filtering tools. No they don't. They don't know what they're capable love and they don't and they're just they're just blathering about what they want to happen in life. It doesn't work that way. Some people in an example. So there's a lot of spam out there that has the word bitcoin demanding ransom or whatever knows all sorts of our scam right. So what some spam filters will do they will include the word. Bitcoin and ernie word but bitcoin in particular. And so i. I do called for him. Decrypted and one of the one of the one of the people have everyone of these users have signed up for this mailing list. I send out just learn people of the content that we covered on that week show and one of the message is gotten back from some servers. Email service during is rejected and the reason is because the name of the story or one of the key words in the story. That coin was bitcoin and so this is the problem. It's like you think only nobody's ever going to talk about bitcoin email unless it's religious span because ridiculous or some sort of con- yeah i happened with with crypto currency exchanges end up in my spam folder now some of them are actual spam where they're trying to pretend like they're the exchange but sometimes the real message the message will only get in there anyway. So we were they literally. Were censoring the news as a result the spin-filled servers for some people signed up to get right. And what do you do about that. You just can't talk about bitcoin It's don't get into their. And and this is the danger of censorship in general. Because when you when you think you're censoring one thing you ultimately end up censoring a lot. More whatever it is that you think you're your sensor in. It may not even be to your advantage in some cases. Maybe you you intended to censor you know You know con artists who were using bitcoin. Because you don't want bitcoin to look bad but then when you go to send out an email you get caught. You get caught up on this spain filters and then you can't get your message about how good is out there. Toll free number is eight fifty five four fifty free. Things are getting worse now as mega platforms like facebook face off against mega governments like the eu and Eu court ruling recently and apparently in austria that the facebook must take down offensive post and they must take it down globally. Not that they could just block the people in austria from seeing it but that it has to be removed completely from their system and this is a disturbing precedent. That is being said. That are there that are sort of official. There are others that other listeners have created and that technically i have done absolutely nothing about so far and some some of them are kind of offensive so where you do have to be aware that you may run into some offensive people. I i haven't seen a the offensive channels. I haven't noticed them go into the toxic users zone but oh oh you mean in the in the channels themselves not the names of the content content. That's not i believe. Yeah yeah for sure. It can get pretty dirty. Yeah the toxic zone used to be back. When we're on the centrally hosted cor corporate server that we originally were on toxic users own was sort of the place that we would put all the bad people that were trying to just spam the channels and put awful hate speech stuff or whatever. Yep we just shoveled them over there on this server. I never created that zone. Someone else did so. One of the toxic users is now running the toxic users zone. That's hilarious is he can find their though. No he's he. I have not banned. I did initially ban him because he was spamming. One of the The the initial official channels. But i i in band. So there's no one banned from any of the channels at this point But no yeah. He's not confined there. Well i can definitely say there are definitely some other rooms We had a bunch of people in the room. Decrypted room for everybody got kicked out until i wiped s. They're slowly coming back. Yep and we talk about exactly this kind of story that covering. Yeah except three hours of it so you get you get nonstop. Content of what's happened this week in the news. Any kind of tech especially freedom slanted type of stories. So if you're if you're a liberty minded kind of person it's definitely the best show on the internet if you want to get caught up on what's happening in excellent newsworld. So what else do we need to know from this hungry or sr hundred austrian situation there. Yeah so basically so basically these these big corporations that have lots of offices all around the world getting caught up by local laws that they have to apply apply. Or you know not be able to operate there. And so usually it's the case where they only have to censor the content within the jurisdiction within that jurisdiction. What happens now. I mean this probably isn't going to occur. But but what would happen now. They're being told by the eu. If somebody is offended by post it has to be removed globally. Well what if the united states passes a law that says that freedom of speech must rain and no post. Shell ever be removed then. They've got a conflict between two different restrictions. What do they do. And that's the problem with this this whole and it's also There's also an issue of well okay. Some countries you know. Something's are you know illegal. Wait till until an islamic court rules that this cartoon of mohammed has to be removed. Things will get really interested in and this is the thing. It has been very harry in that sense before. And it's getting much worse because there are laws in you know islamic state's against women showing pictures of women with you know with the heads of women right because you can't have women's faces in some islamic countries cannot in. Let's say off then it's okay well one snow longer. It may be and they may be illegal in the us at that point showing their faces not their heads price they would call that pornography. Yeah so and that's that's a severe nose so they could if they pass if if they they're court rules. A facebook you know has to apply their local laws to the world. Then all of a sudden anybody who's in the united states wouldn't be able to post pictures even or maybe some whatever right right right anything you end up with. This severely restricted internet experience. And it's just unworkable unusable. Well even i think. I saw story about joe biden talking about removing the section to thirty as it's called spa called protections here in the united states which is the section of the communications decency act that supposedly protects internet companies from liability for what their users post so biden's apparently been talking about getting rid of that which would basically make it impossible to have user based content websites like youtube or facebook or anything like that because then all these companies will be deathly afraid of allowing anyone to post. Because it's their ass on the line legally if that's the key i mean you'd literally italy end the inner. What they what they will be doing. Well i don't know if i'll say it's ended the internet but we'll wait no it. I will tell you as we know it today. What would be the end of the corporate. When i met. If i'm i mean i'll still be happy to host things. I don't care if they. I don't care what they might be a return to more of a grass roots internet if made if the corporate players get scared and the rest of us down that might be the best of all possible worlds. I think what it means effectively is more along the lines of. If you want to post something on the internet you have to set up your own server because ultimately anything else doesn't work and it will be. It'll be even if you think. The internet was hard to use in the early nineties. It's gonna get even harder because you're going to have to go back even further than that all to a point where we didn't have to go back. Get all cures and in for one thing. The software was a lot better than we pictures out of ways. The usenet was much better a lot of ways than facebook. Especially in that it was not sense. I don't know that. I don't know that using it would be legal. Used that would be illegal. I think use net is polycentric. So good luck stopping. It would be worse than stopping. There's it's one of the things that actually joe biden agrees with donald trump on surprise surprise which getting rid. They're really not different from each other. As much as people wanna hate on their Their their opposing side of these issues. There people on the left will pretend like the are so blinded by find so hilarious. Like when i'm hearing from people on either side whether they're pro-trump and it's like start bringing up issues of like well all these problems with by in and it's like and it's funny. It's like the same the reasons they don't like trump that they've been going on and on and on about our and then you and then then and then they vote for biden. How much better biden in is and it's like and then start pointing out the speeches from like ten twenty years ago. Who ever that. He was giving about how he's against gay people and like all sorts of stuff and it's like way isn't that what is it for a war on drugs. Isn't this what you've been harping on. You know You know trump four for all these past four years. So how can you how can you. How does that line and they they just like they don't respond after that as well or they give you some leg non-answer non-response they don't really care about anything. Except they've been told to hate trump. I know it's like this is what i mean. It's like i not any other side. It's they hate people who hate trump so they have to love him so we go to your calls and thoughts though. David is on the line in new mexico. You're on free talk live. Hello david piece of trivia. I think tied into You were talking. About how chinese have to code nineteen eighty-four in place of tiananmen square to avoid the government censors nando. And i i had heard it mentioned. I haven't verified it. i just take. It is true that another thing. Chinese do Presumably for a same or similar reason. Is that when referring to Emperor she that they call him trump instead of sheet so that they're not caught the thing about about about the emperor trump. Yeah i'm not sure but the president of china. Oh see sort. We call them spelled x. So is there some sort of connotation and he looks like winnie the pooh usually here. China's leaders being cold by the word emperor. Yeah that is that is Sarcasm she scream leader gotcha gotcha leader now. Is it true the now. She sells seashells by the seashore. By the way where did you see. The nineteen eighty four thing. Chris pulled up tiananmen square. One thousand nine hundred nine this no no no. I'm sorry. I thought you. I said nineteen remember what was then confirmed. It was nineteen eighty-four. I as well. I thought okay. So i said nineteen eighty-four originally. I know what the year was. I was i was off. Looked it up and eighty nine. Ict i and i the way i it was something like some europe thereof eighty nine. We're both wrong. All right david. What else that's it. I thought that was a fun thing to supply. Thanks for calling in sharing that with us tonight. I do appreciate it. The toll free number here is eight. Fifty five four fifty three. Was there more than you want to share about this the austrian court ruling. Or do we pretty much get the important just. I wonder if the chinese government is going to come after the publishers of winnie the pooh. I mean. i could probably do a little bit more but probably shouldn't cover too much more still. I'll disassembled one section here so to be sure that orders must under the cj eu ruling and general legal precept comply with relevant international law. They cannot as a result violate international human rights on free speech but the specific conquerors. They're saying they can't violate international rights on free speech but if you say something offensive it can be removed from the entire globe if you say something liable as because liable has been long believed not to be included in free speech and i disagree with differences that now they're saying that everybody's liable Should apply to everybody in the worry. And the united states has had has been much much more lenient than say the uk. So if you say something you know. I don't know i don't know exactly to what extent it is but it's something like if you if you say something that that That offends somebody not. That's that's not a lie. Canada has prohibitions on so-called. hate speech. Right right right. So in the united states you could basically saying things but you can't y all right so the uk goes way way farther than that and so come on. If you couldn't lie in the united states every politician. Nobody tells the truth here. Yeah anyway so yeah. It's definitely and this is. This is a danger. These types of laws are a danger to free speech globally when these types of rolling right because then all of a sudden you know the the worst of the worst laws. It's a raising the bottom. Right right get applied to to you so yeah so But specific contours of international human rights are themselves highly contested. And be be. I'm the requirement to comply with human rights. Slaw international law provides a minimal guidance to deal with the divergent approaches to free speech across borders in fact absence. I'm kind of must carry obligation in which one government's demands that certain content to be taken down conflicts with another government's requirements that content be left up. That was what i was saying earlier. Years almost never the kind of classic conflict of laws that yields d mural by enforcing state whether saying there is always the enforcing state isn't going to all of a sudden back down on. Oh well there's this other state says we have to keep it up. Yeah this is getting very it is it is and it's getting worse and worse not just in one region or one country but all over the world and there was there's a Actually a study. That came out this week. That monitors like the global internet for censorship. Reporters without borders. Now that's press freedoms. Yeah it's not It's different if you find that curious to see what. I got my dotes. If you want to comment on the break up by on yeah basically They have looked at basically the top. The countries that are like those western countries when it comes to freedom of speech has been drastically curtailed in recent years and censorship systems have been implemented and it's slowly now getting censored. Isn't that sad. I mean the the internet used to be this bastion of freedom of speech. That's what it was originally supposed to be the information superhighway. All kinds of info unfettered was able to be brought into your home and now it seems to be going in vary unfree very scary and is will as long as it is centralized until people are hosting their own servers right and until that is widespread will continue to get worse self hosting is the solution in the beginning. But that's not the ultimate solution that's going to solve the problem the is solution is actual decentralisation so decentralisation works by yourself but self hosting alone doesn't mean content can't be taken down it can be sure your target the than it's also and i guess i need to see you're talking about like like a a decentralized thing where the same information exists in multiple place now that was extended part of that was referencing and so you know that's one of the things going back to our discussion at the break was very good at is distributing things very quickly all across the internet. It was it was. But i think we have even better systems today. Like torah and things of that nature then. Obviously you know it's not. It's not the perfect solution for every type of content But certainly sometimes the contents. It makes it very difficult to shut down or what about. These are decentralized chain based methods to store content there's different also there's other competitors are storage. There's all kinds of storage centralisation projects that are being developed as we speak absolutely solutions are are in the works. And there's there's also a federal solutions to like the matrix chat server a chat dollar on. Let's talk about section. Two thirty in how biden wants to get rid of in. Facebook so that one of the few features that i'm going to remove from sell four one one is the facebook integration. I don't want facebook knowing where our users are right because bill. It right yeah. It's tying tying into fewer centralized platforms optimal especially when you are creating an app that is intended to be used by people who are being persecuted. Zayd i want to go to jean christian anarchist. He's on the line here in tennessee. Go ahead jeanne. Yeah i want to talk about the internet censorship and you. I don't know if you remember. But i called you several years ago from china and told you how i fear that the censorship that china has we'd come to the usa if we didn't find a way to protect our free speech and it has definitely arrived in some ways. It's almost worse. I wouldn't say that it is quite worse because if you haven't been to china and under an experienced they have they won't redistribute your liver here but anyway well. Yeah not that. I know just. They'll just kill you with a drone strike. Yeah that it is It is scary. What has been done over there. They have i think the army that they have. And i'm not talking about a physical army but i'm talking about their their internet. Are there trolls. They're called the fifty cent army. I think they are far more numerous and organized and actually some of them are posting here on our youtube and facebook and twitter. They're called the fifty cent army. Is that what you said. Yep at fifty after fifty cent the rap artists. No no no comes from. It comes from chinese rule. Mau mau means fifty cents. But only it's chinese american fifty cents so it's only about You know maybe a dime. I see so Basically it it is said that they get woo mile or fifty chinese fence for each post that they make. I don't know if that's true or not but That's where the term fifty cent comes from fifty cent army so button probably more than a million people just basically sitting in basements over there and their impair job is just the post things on social media to bend the narratives to what they want. So i'm curious. How are they using amazon turks to do this. I don't know what that is texas where you pay somebody a very small amount of money and they do a job for you. Called mechanical mechanical turks. I may have missed phrase that anyway. Yeah which is feeds the company. I can't think of the name artist david hers. Yeah which then trades the. They get paid amazon gift. Certificates and i than trades those for for bitcoin borough nice. It's easy to recognize them. Because if you go to you know you see posts under youtube. That are pro china and anti Hong kong and taiwan. And then you look at the account that the post is coming from typically. You'll find that it's a relatively new account during hong kong Uprising there were just all kinds of these accounts that popped up brand new accounts and they were always posting. Proceed sees ccp stuff. And they don't have any videos. They haven't uploaded any videos. They don't have any history. They don't have any people that they're following on youtube and that's pretty unusual so you can definitely tell. Their troll accounts specifically created to been the narrative. Now right now. I don't know how facebook twitter are doing all of their censorship. If i'm obviously they have people that they've hired to go in and look at these things in lockdown accounts and stuff so mostly concerned in preventing americans from mop from meddling with the election. They're concerned with preventing americans americans other than themselves. Yeah the truth is treason in an empire of lies and we're currently in that empire. It's true gene anything else. You wanna share now. That's just the censorship is just It it boggles my mind. And i hope there's something we can do to prevent it and i don't know Nobody's suggested the best bet is to have decentralized systems and self hosted systems and move forward in that direction as much as we can they have to make it easy enough for the average non internet educated so they that's one of the things that's good about federal Federated internet is that you don't necessarily have to have everybody sitting up their own server but you can join servers and then those federate with tried it wouldn't work if one joint if everyone had their own serve it would be way too time. Consuming the average user is not going to be able to do that ever. so that's not. I mean it depends on how those exactly were were detected did for example if if your phone if you were when you read something if you were downloading that and keeping it keeping it for an hour and passing it on to other people who wanted it and then everybody would be running their own server but it would not be it would not necessarily be onerous and it would not necessarily be something you would have to administer. It would just be something that happened. Automatically with the software did yeah exactly or torrance too complicated for a lot of users out there so everybody is ready to call can be worked into much easier to use it as a torn whenever you download a tory program. And especially if it's built into the operating system already then just it's literally no different than downloading You know what you're saying. But i'm just telling you some people they feel like it's way too complicated. They just want to go on netflixif. Watch there and something to be said. I remember the internet before. Aol appeared in all the idiots show with great matter. So maybe maybe a piece networks that wasn't full of morons would be a nice game resented the net here guy. Half of all people are blow. After you're literally talking about most of the listenership here. You might not have. Listenership probably comes mostly from the above average. Remember you and there were some bite view idiots on us. Net a lot of trolls and But i still prefer using net over what we have today. Oh yes. I was just talking about that today. Well it's still there protocol was nobody said the net and terp it's censorship as damage and routes around it and thanks for the call us. Yeah it's it's still there. You can use it from what i understand. They're still companies. That will sell you access to it so go to town. Thank you for the call tonight. I definitely appreciate it. So we're not going to get into this story in any great detail but suffice it to say that joe biden has has voiced support for repealing section to thirty of the communications decency. Here's ron bruce marshall with us The fine senior writer for the gold sheet nyerere due to check out the gold sheet and is certainly one of the aspects of it that people like the some of the feature stories that he writes. Let's talk about the nfl. The eagles are gonna be on the road. They'll go up against the cleveland browns. So how do you see this shaking out. You know the nature of the nfl. Ron i mean how about that for the eagles. Should they lose to the giants last week. There now in danger and the nfc spending three wins this year. Just because the division so bad there ahead. But i'm not sure they're going to continue to struggle just a back and forth in this league. I could see philadelphia bouncing back the way they did last year When they wanted to look the are in trouble turned around their season This go into cleveland now Carson wentz has got most of his weapons back. I know they didn't win against the giants. And i think the giants are playing better right now. Cleveland the offensive score ten points. You're three of its last four games. Nick chubb ran out of bounds. It could've scored another touchdown last week. But i think we've seen kevin stefanski kind of bad weather mode with this offense not seeing baker mayfield. Put the ball up in the air nearly as much the last couple of games. It's a lot of shove. And this means the margin for error for the browns is very thin. I think eagles kind of here and steal one twenty four seventeen philadelphia the nature of the nfl near a little back and forth. I think the eagle shop on sunday. It's gonna be interesting when the falcons traveled to new orleans to take on the saints. Because they'll be facing somebody other than drew brees will be out with those injured ribs. And i'm just wondering if we've seen in the past when he's gone out of the lineup that they've been able to carry on. Well so what do you think in this game. Because the falcons are looking for their fourth win of the season yes well. One thing falcons played battisson. Switched coaches here and remorse. They're three and one. He's doing a pretty good job auctioning for this job and a full-time basis. This team is not completely dead for the playoffs. You haven't had mulata games earlier in the year. So they are dangerous saints. Looks like sean payton's going. Jason heloc quarterback the guy Who was in for eight snaps last week. And all once when he was in against the forty niners. I mean he. Lamar jackson tight and not a little bit more run heavy The other options. Jameson winston who might be in the game. Remember this game last year off the bye week. The went into into the superdome and sack breeze six times pressure and a lot more in won that game. Twenty six nine turn their season around. I think peyton doesn't wanna put james winston back there against that sort of pressure. We might see the thinks. He'll might be a bit more of a change of pace. I don't know it's gonna be close. Twenty four twenty. Three saints falcons appoint better. Wouldn't surprise me the upset this week. And if you take a look at the patriots and the texans between they've won six games. The texans are really kind of playing out the string for the rest of this season. So how do you see this one. Checking out yeah. Rangeland has to straighten things out a little bit too engine or went rainy windy on sunday night but they got the job done champions been a little bit more careful the last couple of weeks so they are at least two wins in a row. Not totally dead yet. And i think they'll shirts might have issued this week now. It's his old defensive coordinator romeo cornell for houston but he's been able to do is beat their the jaguars Twice this year. in fact it's been almost a year since houston beat a team in regular season. Play other than jacksonville so History doesn't suggest houston's gonna turn things around. I think this is a whole organization in ready for a house at the end of the year. Don't you care released here. Twenty four fourteen new england on sunday at energy stadium. And you've got pittsburgh taking on mars. The jaguars and pittsburgh the only undefeated team in the national football league. Only one win for jacksonville this season so this should be a fairly easy a win. Four pittsburgh but i'm wondering what the heck is wrong with jacksonville. Where did they blow it this year. Well i think a variety of things They didn't make a coaching change after last season but personnel wise. They have not solved the quarterback issue. They've got Jake luton rookie in their quarterback is not done all that badly but still They're not winning with him. They weren't representing gardner minshew. This'll be ospel landing spot trouble lawrence if they could Make drug the jets and get the first pick out lawrence and maybe just the fields. They need a new quarterback. They probably need a new coach. And i think all that's going to happen after the end of the season Cautioned for pittsburgh two weeks ago. I went to dallas. Starting dare gilbert just picked up off the street. Really speaking skiers so they're not They're not overwhelming at times this year. But too much for jacksonville. This week saying on thirty five. Twenty one steelers spore forecast. The packers game against the colts played in. Indianapolis is a very interesting one. I like the colts defense. And i'm wondering if that will give the packers Problems also that. We might see an upset here. It's possible it looks like one of the better games the weekend New the colts. Go get the tennessee again next week. So it's After winning that game we go. Thursday the block punch very important in the afc south green day fighting for the top seed in the nfc and topsy. The only only one conference this year That the colts have hung into their defense has played extremely well but the schedules broken. Very good for Indianapolis star and now they have to face aaron rodgers. This'll put the secondary under the most pressure. it has been this season The packers will fly last week against jacksonville but they ended up pulling up the game. Really a couple of weeks ago at san francisco on thursday night and the packers. Aaron rodgers won't be able to outdo philip rivers and the colts do not wanna get rivers into a shootout sort of the game. He's not forgotten anymore Roger still thirty twenty four green bay. We're gonna take the packers on sunday a pretty good match up between the titans and the ravens in baltimore. These teams each six and three. How do you see this one working out. Yeah rematch with that playoff game. Where tennessee came into. Mnt bank stadium and upset the ravens last january twenty eight twelve four three giveaways from lamar mark jackson. You know. I don't want to blame too much last week. There was rain wind. It was bad weather situation. Heck santa claus would have been grounded on christmas eve. If that sort of weather less we can fox bill but the ravens have not played well for over a month now and it looks like you know the march action. We got remember. When he was in college. At louisville he looked like the most unstoppable force in college. It's been for a while. And they started to make some adjustments in the acc. And i think some of the nfl the making some adjustments to manley keeping his escape routes clawed and This is going to be a problem but baltimore. Can't find a way to get this offense going again. Derrick henry time in one night is against the ravens in the playoff win last year. And i think if If he does its punt walking a little better. I got a couple of Punch blocking the colts. Last week i think tennessee versus that decision last week. Twenty eight twenty three titans. We're gonna take them over the railing raven front sunday and aside from the pittsburgh steelers. The hottest team in the national football league. I think is the miami dolphins and they're going to be on the road to take on the broncos. I like the dolphins. And i'm not quite sure why they're playing as well as they're playing. Is that their defense. Because it looked awfully good. When i saw them against the forty niners. Yeah that's right around. That was a great effort against the niners. Forty three seventeen switched to to tackle avoid quarterback since then he has won his first three starts. He's not throwing a check yet. They are in serious playoff contention right now. Five spain lens respect with two. He is already a lot more reliable than drew. Lock denver's quarterback for picks last week. This denver situation is really bad. Ron there is no leadership. in that organization. now is pat. bowlen's heirs are feuding going into court next year. In the meantime they're just as no leadership on this Team and who locked is not looks like a poor man's version of a young jay cutler from denver many years ago ain't cutting it yet. Miami twenty six seventeen is a give them six wins in rowing. I think it's legit. Yeah the jets are driving toward the overall first. Pick in the nfl draft. They certainly i would like to take it because of quarterbacks available and they're going to be on the road in los angeles to take on the chargers the chargers i guess you might say kind of a hard luck team. They've lost a lot of games by just a couple of points and they stand at two and seven. So what do you think happens in l. a. This weekend i think. La wins. It might not be that easy. I this team has sixteen losses. Alaska last season in games by one score or less. Get the figure. Think of that for a second. I guess their coach anthony. He's not the guy you want to take to the racetrack. As good luck charm for yourself. They seem to find ways to lose games. Now they have not played the jets In that stretch so this is gonna be chance of the chargers to get over the hump and the jets but a little bit better the last couple of games. Sam darnold back in the saddle and he's starting back home to southern california where he grew up in college a us. Just down the road from inglewood. So i don't think the jets get embarrassed here But they don't win Twenty six nineteen chargers or score forecast on sunday and the sunday night. Game is the chiefs at the raiders. The raiders have had to put a number of players on the covid suspension list. And i think that will have something to do with the outcome of this game. Yeah pleaded their defense psalm. The last team. You wanna have your defense to played it against. Because patrick mahomes and the chiefs come in here loaded for bear. After they lost their one game this season. I came against the raiders. That first back in early. October arrowhead It's been a long time since the raiders were able to sweet kansas city. I think patrick. Mahomes and company come out starling. Let's not forget casey off a bye. And andy. reid has been great in his career off. A bye at philadelphia and kansas city eighteen and three Twenty one games off regular season buys and that works in the chiefs favorite. Plus the revenge This week Thirty eight twenty three. Kansas city thing events that lost last month to the raiders and the monday night game is going to be the rams. They struggled a at the very beginning of the season. A little bit straighten things out. What do they do against the bucks. Yeah we'll see they've been back and forth but you're right. That was the best team in the season last week against Against the seahawks defense has played pretty darn well but now they get tom brady and the bucks who might be starting to figure some things out now. All these new pieces that have been added in there and leonard fournette and recently antonio brown but brown caught seven passes last week from brady gog has been cashing. Td passes almost every week. Ronald jones to One ninety two rushing last week including a long nightmare. So the offense fine looks like it's cooking gear and i'm not sure that you're going to be able to trade points brady down Tampa bay Thirty two to twenty tampa bay. Usa here's ron bar another big weekend of college and nfl. Football action. and as we always do on a friday chicken with bruce marshall to find senior writer for the gold sheet and bruce. Let's kick it off with the college games. Number eleven oregon. They're going to be at home this weekend with no fans but not taking on. Ucla so how do you see this one. Yeah ucla kinda surprising last week. Although i don't know about the late change of venue and added the schedule that did to the calbears. All of the sudden less than forty eight hours notice said to turn around and play in. La when they thought they were gonna play in tempe against arizona state and then no time to prepare for that and unique chip. Kelly offense you shall. I didn't have to travel last week. But the bruins played their best game in a while and that he took off a good against so. Let's see if that happens against oregon. I don't know that it will their quarterback. Mario cristobal has the ducks tyler shop. He looks a lot like justin. Herbert to me he can run. He can throw and oregon speaking of running really got the ground game going last week against washington state. cj for dell in particular and we know that We know that. Ucla's has had problems chip kelly. Second game back and eugene fifty left his organs coach he lost two years ago. Forty two twenty one. I think it's a similar score on saturday. Forty one twenty. Three oregon are forecast in eugene and number seven cincinnati will head out on the road to take on central florida. Could this be kind of a surprise. Here is an upset in the making it. You think well that'd be out of work that's for sure. Central florida has the offense to cause problems With dylan gabriel. And they run over. Eighty plays per game so this real fast tempo Best pace dolphins Does not nearly as many plays a much slower pace however if you look at yards proclaimed cincinnati gained six point nine and she has seven point. Oh so they're actually pretty close in efficiency and that's because desmond rid of the quarterback for cincinnati so good very versatile can lon control but the real edge that Cincinnati has here is that its defense ranks among the best in the country. Allow just twelve points or able nationally. And that's what's the bearcats shawmut stuff other teams in the american thirty five twenty four cincinnati lease on saturday and another top ten action number. Four clemson going to be taking over our on florida state. It looks like florida. State is out of their league in this one. Yeah this used to be run when we talked about this game. Five six seven years ago. This was a game There's often in the last twenty or so years. Not lately though because florida state has kind of fallen on art touch really hard times and coming off three straight lopsided losses in a row last year. This game has forty five fourteen. Two years ago fifty nine to ten here in tallahassee so Florida state has really had its to gets the clemson lately. You've got clinton off the loss Trevor lawrence back in the lineup. Another week off last week but he'll be back in there to revive heisman campaign and florida state. Mike are built into disaster. It's a lot bigger rebuilding job. There be expected. I think fifty three fourteen clemson vote is not take it easy florida state and time saturday. I'm not sure either. One of us was alive. The last time we talked about indiana the top ten but the hoosiers number nine. They go off on the road to take on number three ohio state. How do you see it. Yeah it has been a long time. And i know the only rose bowl visit indiana. It was way back in nineteen sixty seven. John ponts miracle amateurs got there and great one year turnaround. That's fifty three years ago. Those in the final four which means they're gonna have to win this one and a bunch more. I don't think that's going to happen although this is much better team. Give tom allen. Very intense guy. they head coach at indiana lot of credit. Credits quarterback panics real playmaker. They just don't have the depth and they're not as strong on the lines as ohio state which will end up pulling away here though. Maybe not a blow out because indiana will keep firing for sixty minutes. Ohio states should win this pretty heavily. Thirty eight twenty three are updated forecast here for the buckeyes. They stay unbeaten and high in the polls and number twenty one liberty little school but they'll be taken on a big school in north carolina state. So what happens here bruce. Yeah liberty one of the surprise teams in the country along. You know maybe a little bit. Cincinnati coastal carolina. These team still unbeaten the late november. Great job second year. Hugh freeze excellent miss head coach man. He's found on their lynchburg where they've just signed to a contract extension. This is also hoping to ward off. Some suitors. don't be surprised in south carolina or a few other openings in the region give freeze a. He's done a great job here. It goes in the weeds and finds players and transferred. Maliki lo-lose transfer quarterback from auburn as really turned things around for liberty to seize. They've already won. Two games at acc venues nc state is better for going this year. The backup quarterback when his played very well since the starter went down. I think willis gives liberty the edge thirty five thirty liberty. They extend them record. Take note with a win on saturday. Rally and back to the pac twelve or usc number twenty this week in the rankings. We'll go up against you to Excuse me utah. how do you see it. Yeah we finally get the youth after i to answer were cancelled and they get usa or so. This is actually. Utah's opening game on november. Twenty one while so twenty twenty with that one. Ufc to l. but barely sell against a couple of midland pac twelve. They had to rally late in the last minute to be both arizona state and arizona. I know they're two and other ranked. I i think he's got some flogging. Offense is not that great slowest. The quarterback is dangerous when he just loved to sit back in the pocket and throw utah. Those should be able to put some pressure on. This has been a very home oriented series. Utah's beaten the trojans the last three times. They came in to salt lake city. Utah quarterback seen it before south carolina. Jake that might transfer get some experience. Much needed there for utah quarterback twenty four to twenty one kyle williams utah to win this one outright in salt lake and one of the premier matchups on the schedule this week. takes place in the big ten where you got number ten wisconsin which is looked awfully good. Going up. Against number nineteen north western. Good match up here. Yeah and we went back and forth this other. Gold sheet wind up on the wisconsin side. Thirty one to twenty though. We respect hat. That's what he's done with north western. He doesn't have a quarterback this year and peyton ramsey. Indiana transferred wisconsin. They'll look really really good. They had a covid scare. But they bounce back from those couple of weeks off to destroy michigan. Last week merged the quarterback but really good. He was one of the guys who cobra packet but he had a great last week against the move rings. And i think that wisconsin. We'll just be able to have a little bit too much for the wildcats who could have used a crowd this week. They won't have on in evanston But this -sconsin get some thirty one twenty badgers cheese score forecast in evanston and alabama back in a spot. They're familiar with being number one. They go up against kentucky. And that's going to be at home for alabama. So how do you see it. Yeah they'll keep rolling here. Kentucky gives them a little different curveball academic. some of the team's bama's implant pretty good opportunistic defence. Several ball hawks in the secondary kentucky is one of the leading teams with interceptions in the land. Three pick sixes already for this kentucky defensive season. But there's no way they can keep pace with Alabama which has been offered back jones has to revive incisa campaign. People might have forgot about him the last few weeks. He's put heisman-caliber numbers he will do it. Again and alabama wins pretty comfortably. You know maybe not a complete humiliation here kentucky. Eight that back thirty nine sixteen alaba- stays unbeaten and on track for number one. Sec title game. Showdown against florida next month. And i suppose the number sixteen florida will not have a hard time with vanderbilt. I agree and i would watch. Kyle trash the quarterback here for florida on a lot of people talking about trevor lawrence. Clemson's justin fields ohio statement. You others. i'm not sure. Traffic is not as good as any of them. in fact he's right in the middle of the is it makes now for those six passing last week is gonna make some. Nfl team very very happy. And dan mullen. He's got a score style. Points here to keep florida in congestion for final four berth. He doesn't in nashville. Vanderbilt cannot keep pace fifty four. thirteen. Florida watch craft. He's putting some huge numbers for the gators and a big interstate rivalry oklahoma oklahoma state. They square off. This'll be a norman. Oklahoma sooners ranked number eighteen oklahoma state. Their number fourteen. So what happens. The bedlam game here has been pretty exciting In recent years some close games here though state usually does not win. Have one game in six years right. Then they might have saved his job in two thousand fourteen You know the last two oklahoma games. They scored sixty two points in each game now. It was texas tech and kansas. Have much tougher. Defensive challenge against oak state. Here looks like spencer. Rapper director freshman quarterback is figuring out lincoln riley. Offense just fine and he'll be okay. Here is jailed in game two weeks ago against kansas. You'll be good to go to mall and oak state as good as the cowboys. Have been cheaper hubbard their star running back. Last year posted. Barry sanders like numbers not issue. It's been a little bit more pedestrian state offense. I'm not sure they're going to keep pace in norman. Here's ron time to check in with roy. Eisenhart as we do each week here on sports byline we call the segment inside angle as roy for almost three years with be now he and i take a look at some of the interesting sports stories and drill down a little bit deeper. He was the president of the oakland a.'s when his family owned that team and now he teaches sports law a usf and also the university of california. I wanna ask you about something. I got an email on just this morning about klay thompson. Getting an injury that might take him out of action for this season this entire season after he lost last season with another injury. And the person asked me. Would you ask roy about how teams deal with injuries when they've spent multi millions of dollars and they don't have the services of that type of person and how that affects the team. How do they deal with that. As far as an ownership group well In klay thompson case it's interesting 'cause he's of course coming off a very bad leg injury and hasn't played for over a year so they They had lost him for a good period of time he continues to be paid of course under his contract and From what i understand. And it's only from what. I read in the paper that he was basically working out trying to get back into playing shape. And it's the kind of thing that can happen to you walking down your front steps or playing basketball. You can Injure i think a calf possible in his case so It's part of the risk of having these highly Skilled and fine tuned. Athletes that They they they do get hurt. And during that period of time he goes into the payroll. I think if he were out for the season i think the Warriors could exclude them from their salary cap calculations but Other than that. It's just a part of the red ink on their financial statement. Well what i was thinking about was the pay protection for ball clubs. If you've got a player and we're talking basketball here but you've had some high priced players when you were running the oakland a.'s. And and they get injured That is money that is just lost. Is it not for the ball club in a sense. Do they have any It's what they call a sunk cost but the You can ensure against the injury If you've guaranteed the players contract and they're two types of insurance one is for a temporary disability. Which i hope is what klay thompson is and the other is for permanent if a player suffers an injury such just that his career is over. The premiums for the temporary are extremely high because a lot of players get temporary Injuries so the insurance companies would have to underwrite it with a very high premium so most clubs just by the permanent disability insurance and hopefully. That's not the situation with klay thompson. Mediums on both are extremely expensive. So you really have to think about it. You know if you think about it. Also if you're paying a player say twenty five million thirty million dollars and you lose them for extended periods of time or the whole season. How does one compensate that from a team perspective. I mean that is just not money. That's going to get them any value at all. Is it now. I mean that's part of why injuries are such an important part of a calculation in sports. You know when you look at teams at the beginning of the year. Everybody's talking about who's promised to win. And so forth. And i say well let's wait and get into the season and see what teams suffer Very debilitating injuries like last year. The yankees had just happened. Seemed like half their pitching staff got wiped out at one point with arm injuries and so forth so one of the really material factors in the success of team from season to season is injuries or the lack of injuries. And it. it's just it's part of the game unfortunately Look at the forty niners with their quarterback out. It's just part of the risk of klang football. You know it's an interesting thing. I i've asked this question. I think you. And i have talked about it a bit but i get asked this probably as much as any question i ever get asked about. Why does anybody buy a professional sports franchise. Now put aside roy for just a second the ego but you're paying somebody based on. Maybe what they did in the past. But you're not gonna know what they're going to do in the future. And then the injury factor as well and i think of the warriors. They paid a little bit better than four hundred and twenty five million which a lot of people said was over paying for the team. But if you take a look at the value of the franchise now it's better than four billion dollars I'm sure you don't know whether it's ever going to go to that. But the motivation. For taking on a franchise which has the liabilities and the the problems that you can have with either non-production or an injury. Maybe you can give me some insight there. Well you took off the table. What i would say. It's one of the biggest driving motivations for a lot of people. I don i will not call it ego but i'll call it Being in the public light a lot of individuals are very successful. Business people And they go through their lives unrecognizable. But if you own a sports team you suddenly become A quiz is celebrity. And you you find out Just parenthetically that you never knew you had so many friends as when once you reveal the just bought the mets or whatever so I think that that that appetite for the celebrity aspects of owning a team particularly in the nfl. I think that's where it really hits. The most and is a big factor. Now the other factor of course is that not. Everybody goes into the deal expecting. They're gonna lose money and in fact the warriors even with klay thompson up pay salary will probably not lose money once they can get back to having fans in the stands again so You know you still can have a positive cash flow in in today's sports world but the third thing is the appreciation as you described for reasons that are beyond me. These teams as the franchise is just keep going up and up and up and up when we bought the as and In the eighties we pay twelve million dollars and that was a lot that was one of the highest prices that teams had gone for today. Twelve million dollars is what you pay. Utility second basement career to get hundred at bats for you So you can see the exponential growth in value and and most of frankly comes from the television revenues. They've just gone through. Not only the stratosphere but how torch jupiter somewhere in terms of the amount of money they got for tv revenues if that golden goose goes away. You're gonna start to see those franchise values start to head the other direction really fast. But for now. I'd say it's combination of celebrity. And it's an interesting business in a sense and Franchise appreciation i will leave the subject With one story of my own. I was at the super bowl covering it. And they were bringing around the man that wanted to buy the franchise for houston before it was in the national football league as an expansion franchise and a very wealthy man in the state of texas and i was talking to him. I said wait a minute. I said if you look at the browns cost about two nine hundred million dollars to put that team on the field and it's gonna cost you over a billion dollars. I said where does that make any financial sense. And he said ronnie billion dollars ain't gonna change my lifestyle one bit probably point. Number four is disposable income for them for for them. It's like putting it on their credit card. You know you. And i have talked also about salaries i think. We all remember. When they were were they were low. And i think there's been a dynamic change. Roy and i'd like to get your perspective on this. After a few weeks of wavering. James harden has made up his mind. He wants to play for the brooklyn nets and his focused on forcing the rockets to trade him. There so he can form a super team alongside kevin durant and kyrie irving and compete for a title hardens. Desire to play for the nets is so strong that he turned down a historic contract extension offer from the rockets that rockets offer would have made hardened the first player in league history to make fifty million dollars per year. Something has changed on a couple of levels one players are dictating where they want to play and who they wanna play with and second of all. It appears that they've made so much money in the early part of their career. At least right now that money going forward is not the determining factor about where they wanna play. What happened that caused that. You think roy i think particularly true in the nba. Where one one or two people can really influenced team. If you tried to do that in baseball actually did happen. Maybe back in the sixties but don drysdale and sandy koufax package dealing themselves but in baseball. It just wouldn't have the impact football it wouldn't have the impact but it does work in the nba. Because of the fact there was only five guys on the floor But i think what has happened is yes. They are paid a lot of money. They're they're pretty well fixed for life so Other things become important to them like winning an nba title and I can understand why for james harden news a great player I don't know whether kyrie irving wherever get the ball but that's He's he probably you know looks at that as the apotheosis is career now. So he's Doing what i not surprised. He wants to play with a winter. You know it's interesting you bring up a point. I wonder if a team can have too much talent now. If you look across baseball it you've you. And i have talked about the fact that Teams that have a lot of money can go out and get good talent. And i'm sure they can be competitive more often than not when they had that type of talent but what does it take beyond just having talent to get a talented team playing in a championship way. Well you're right There is an issue. I think particularly in the nba. We're only when guy gets to hold the ball at a time The issue of How you balance your talent. At his very important. I think that the warriors during their period of success A couple of years ago demonstrated that where they know. They not only had talent but the talent was distributed so that their their two guards and at would would work with each other and therefore we knew how to work with each other in six and seventh guys off. The bench knew how to work with the guards. And so it's not just having the talent it's getting the players to play as a team because one of the things that gets lost in all of this stardom in the fact that these are all team sports. And you you lose her die. Probably not with how good your top players are but how good your middle players are. 'cause that's you know. We need the insurance against injury again fouling out of a game against Other other factors that could influence a star players. Play so I always look at a team for tap. Not at how. Good the top kaiser but how good the middle guys are and That's i think what you see for example on tampa bay this year in the world series. They didn't win it but they had that depth through the middle which made them a very competitive team in about a minute As you look across and look at all the coaches all the managers that have won championships. What's the consistent thing you think that they do to be able to get the most out of their team. They don't put players in a position where their weaknesses will show up. In other words they protect players against being exposed. 'cause nobody has good as these athletes are and let's remember we're talking about the top tenth of percent of athletes in the world They all have their vulnerabilities and for example in baseball you don't expose a pitcher to certain kinds of hitters. Who have this skills to to maybe attack there Slider that other hitters. Don't have or in basketball. You don't put certain players on Other players that they just can't guard for whatever reason so the managers who succeeded those who are able to cover up the deficiencies of their players. And let them perform at their at their outstanding level. I gotta tell you. This has been an insightful conversation. This weekend it went a different way than i thought would go. We had a couple of other topics to talk about. But this was. I think insightful and i think listeners will enjoy it. Thank you my friend moving. Yeah the same to you. Here's rhonda tank. Black joins us on sports byline former sports agent who went to prison for laundering money participating in a ponzi scheme he made illegal payments to college. Athletes stole millions from his athlete clients. So says the material in the book he also has a book out about it. All called tanked behind the scene. With the nfl's biggest stars bhai football's most infamous super agent. Now tank represented some of the biggest names when it came to the nfl. Barry sanders sterling. Sharpe vince. carter giovane kerr's ray caruth and andrea rise among a total of nearly seventy five. Big name athletes. You know when. I see the word infamous anna a title. It usually has a negative connotation tank in context to yourself. How do you see that word. Well infamous in my case just has to do with the fact that So much has been written so much. It's been said about me. All of the negative. No not all of it's been negative. I mean A lot of it has been negative because we tended to dwell more on negative things out in society than we do positive. But i'm one of the few super agents this ever been You know what you said. Earlier was about the ponzi scheme. And you know we still money At the end of the day. I was able to prove that i wasn't part of the ponzi scheme and i never knew anything about the ponzi game. And then i never stole money or cheated. Our players and this is a federal court ruling. That came out Ron and it was It was just a great feeling to have that Come out at the time. They did back in two thousand four attack. I've read a lot of books Certainly by a lot of agents over the years. But i don't know that. I've ever read portions of a book. That name names like you did and usually that could be the kiss of death. A why did you decide to go in that direction. It's hard to write a book like this if you're worried about having to worry about signing players and staying in the business that you're in and that's one of the unique things about this book that i wrote this book because i want people to know who the real tiny black is. I want them to know what really happened. In my situation the things we did wrong the things that didn't do wrong and mistakes. I've made and i made plenty of them. Okay and i wanted them to know that. I never stole money or cheated our clients and that that what happened to me can happen anybody will. I have to be able to tell the truth in the book. That was very important. If i was going to ride it a need to tell the truth because i got in trouble for lying to federal prosecutors. That was part of what i went to prison for. I'd never done that before in my life and i've never been in a courtroom in my life front. I never spent a day in jail. My life. And i'm forty years old now said and i'm standing in the courtroom. Why would you lie to federal prosecutors. If now you're telling the truth well we'll back when i lied to them then it was. I was frustrated because they brought me to washington. Dc and they were saying that i had something to do with this casper titles investment. When all i did was invest in it and i was frustrated at the government because i thought that they should have the cash for titles people up there instead of me. I was just a sports agent and so it was more some of my answers. Were misleading. And i was just kinda a little bit upset at them for having me there in the first place on my part obviously yeah. It sounds like maybe they were out to get you From what i'm hearing here. Would you put it in those words. You know what. I think that they wanted to blame somebody for what happened in cash for titles and they chose me. I think that's a better way to put it. I feel like if. I say that someone was out to get me. It feels feels like. I'm saying that i was a victim and that you know all this is somebody else's fault and that's not true and so i don't wanna come across that way because i made enough mistakes To where that you know. I 'cause myself enough problems but i was the person who was chosen to take the blame for cash for titles and i should have never been chosen to be that. I don't want to get into that. Just how would you describe the athlete representation business. Well it's a high stakes game It's a game where lots of things go on behind the scenes Money's transferred deals are made It's like anything else that involves a lot of money. It's a half stake scanning. And you know i talk about You know the fact that you know i. I gave money to players while they're in college and i knew that that was against the roof. Well let me explain to you. The way that that happened it's commonplace. Players would come to me and say listen My mom. I need to get her five hundred dollars because they're about to cut her lights off and we don't have any money and here's a player who's fixing to make thirty million dollars in a few months. Now i've been recruiting for a whole year run and so I've got a chance to sign him. What what am i gonna say to him. I'm going to say no i. I can't give you the five hundred dollars. Or if i'm gonna say yeah sure i'll give you five hundred dollars you know. Just give my money back. In my case i did what nine out of ten agents would obviously do. I gave the kid to five hundred dollars and told him. Look you know getting my money back. You know when you're to have plenty of money. I knew the player needed that money. Excuse me was it against the rosie. Seo absolutely was. And i knew it was against ruth at the time but that's decisions that you have to make if you're trying to keep pace with that high stakes gang if he doesn't get from may there's there are several other agency he's gonna get it from. Yeah it seems like the mitac. What you're saying is a little bit like the use of steroids performance enhancing drugs. Everybody else in baseball is doing it. So i may as well to if i want to compete. Is that what you're saying you know that. That's a great. That's a great parallel. Because i had a conversation a few weeks ago about this baseball players are faced with his vision. Barry bonds is a good example. And i don't know what he did do. It didn't do so. I'm not trying to say that. Okay but let's say that very biased. I think is the best baseball player in baseball. He's not playing right now. But i think he was the best baseball player when he was will These other guys are hitting ten more home runs than he is. Mark mcguire and sammy sosa all of a sudden. Now the clear blue or hitting ten more fifteen more home runs embarrassed and so very saying. Wait a minute how. This happened that he finds out that. Hey they're taking some things or he thinks they're taking some things so what he decided that. This is a twenty million dollar a year game for me. If i'm extend my career compete on the highest level. Maybe i should do this. I'm not saying he did or he didn't but that's the thought process and do you. Do you take a chance on breaking the rue and making no twenty million dollars for extra three years or you just say no. I'm not gonna do that when you know others are doing it. So doesn't make it right now. it doesn't. It certainly didn't make it right for me to do it. And i was wrong for having done it But the amount of publicity. I after for doing it in the amount of notoriety i got for doing it would make you think that i'm the only person out there doing this. And that's just farfetched okay. How epidemic is the paying of college athletes. Today listen it was a high stakes game. Nine years ago when i was doing iran almost ten years later. The monies are are are are double. So so what do you think i mean. It's it's so far out of hand catis players. Getting money has to players are getting money to go to college. Great college players getting money from all kinds of agents to be able to sign and going into the league Something needs to be done about it. you gotta be able to take players in and take that need away from them one of the great ideals that was that came to the table with that give these great college players settlement amount from insurance companies because they have a lot of money coming. So if they're worth ten million dollars let them have that have fifty thousand dollars against the money that they have coming. Let them sign a contract with illegal company for that money But but the the thing that those players are not going to get that money that they need from somebody whether it's five hundred thousand dollars they're gonna get it. You and i both know that. Let me ask you very candid question. I mentioned some of your clients that you had. And i know that sterling sharpe was your first client but of all the ones that you represented. How many of them did you pay while they were in college. Oh you know like remember now players would come to me and i would. I would actually loan them money when they signed. They give that money back to me. I have all those checks but then answer to your question Probably about two percent. The figures low. Okay i might have given Fifteen or twenty players money in in a ten year span. I mean that's how rare it was but still that's still twenty players in in you know so if you take me one agent giving twenty players money over time you take other agents who are doing the same thing then. Most of the top players are getting something at some point. Most of our guys. They never asked me for anything you know and so i never offered them anything. So it wasn't the fact that we were just trying to give players money. That's not how that happened but everybody did pay you back that you gave money to everybody that i gave money to pay me back. I i gave a great example. I gave john kirsch thousand dollars. Okay And i still have the check or von curse. Gave me a thousand dollars back. He knew he was gonna get plenty of money in a few months. He'd never ask for anything and he just said he just really needed this and he'd give it back to me and he did. It's a fascinating situation. And i'm just wondering whether you think the nc double a. Or anybody will be able to get a handle on that. Well it's it's like it's like anything else. If they want it to go away and they want to deal with the issue they'll all sit down and try to figure out a way to deal with the issue. The truth is they. They're all making plenty of money off the athletes. Ncwa is making billions of dollars. The schools are making billions of dollars off of the athletes and the athletes. Who don't have any money. They don't have jobs because they're in school. And so until they focus on it and come up with some way or these players can get some this necessary money to stop them from going to other people and asking them for money. It's always going to be rampant. Thank hold on just a second. I told you it'd be a fascinating conversation. And indeed it is tank. Forty-five this is america's sports talk show sports byline usa. Here's rhonda thank black is joined us on sports byline and again. If you'd like to check out the book it's called tank behind the scene with the nfl's biggest stars by football's most infamous sports agent. Tank when you got into this business of representing athletes what was it that titillated you the most about the job. Well you know. I had already been an all american athlete and santa contract with lamb. Falcons and then. I coach football for ten years so when i got out of college football and got into sports representation business i had just always been in the business of dealing with players and that was a fascinating part for me that i love players around him. I love being over help them. And i understand what they're going through and so that was just a perfect job for me something. I just enjoyed early. You're certainly understood what they were going through both as a college player and as a professional player but there is another side to them. And that's an off-field side. How comfortable were you with dealing with some of the problems that your clients had or athletes in general. Have off the field. You know i was actually very comfortable with it One of the things that really comes out in the book is they have these superstar athlete. They're really no different than you. And i are the normal everyday person they have problems they get into stuff they get into issues that people have to go in and clean up and they go away. The only difference between him and the normal person is that there's always somebody like me normally who will come in and take care of the problem. I have to take exception to what you said. Because i think the everyday person me as well doesn't have the millions of dollars that they have have the talent that they have to be able to make those millions of dollars and i don't see them in the same light as us at all. I can't imagine anybody who has talent to be able to make the money that they make would even think about doing some of the things that you talk about in this book. Well mike sample would be that normal. Everyday person might get into some trouble. They might drink and drive or you know. I don't do drugs but they might. Some young kids might smoke marijuana. Well if you take the normal thousands of nineteen twenty year old kids. These kids do the same thing that those those kids do is what i'm saying. And except for they make millions of dollars so if they if they make a mistake or if they do something it's going to be exposed and it's going to be put on her microscope in. That's the different well. There are a few exceptions here. Sir we all know the ray carruth story and i'll get into that just a second but you also exposed how superstar nba player. Vince carter came to you Sobbing because he was afraid his mother and the press would find out about a casual girlfriend that he got pregnant. Follow up the story on that. Yup vince called me one morning about three o'clock in the morning and he was crying and He was very very distraught and upset. And i just didn't know what was wrong and finally. He told me what it was. He'd gotten a girl pregnant and she had threatened that she was going to go public with it until everybody in the world about it. He didn't want to press or his mom to no actually. I was relieved when he told me that. Because i thought it was like somebody was hurt bad or you know i mean certainly. That was bad enough but i thought it might be worse than that. And so He wanted me to go to toronto and talk with her and basically just be willing to do whatever needed to be done so that she wouldn't go public with this and what you are willing to pay off the girl with the car and cash. That's what he was. He was willing to for me to do. What did you end up doing. I didn't end up doing having to do any of that. Because she wasn't interested in his cash are being paid off in any kind of way she was just pissed off because since it slept with her and she'd gotten pregnant and he wouldn't even take your phone calls that's what she was pissed off about and so what she wanted. She wanted to go with her. She was going to get an abortion. She wanted to go with her. Be there when she got divorced and take her back to his place and let her spend the night there so that she could go through the night. Feel a lot better the next afternoon and go home. And that's what that's exactly what he did. So he wasn't didn't have to pay up in any particular way nope he didn't have to pay anything because she didn't want anything you know you. And i both know you've probably saw the sports illustrated story about the children that were born out of wedlock by athletes and predominantly was black athletes. And you have a story in here to about the illegitimate son of former nfl. All pro wide receiver and now current. Nfl network analysts sterling. Sharpe when people hear these things it really turns them off after they've looked upon these athletes as being hero. Like how do you see it. Well the way the way that. I see it as that. I have strong feelings when it comes to people being Fathers i have strong feelings. A had strong feelings. When i spoke with sterling strolling grew up without a father in the home. He grew up with his grandmother. Like i did. And so now all of the sudden he's got a son out there. He's upset if the mom and he doesn't want to have anything to do with the sun because he's upset at the mom and i'm telling him look you can be upset. Mom all you want to be but you still have to be a father to this kid. Because he the father and we just had a major fallout about that and i write about it extensively in the book. And what do you write about. I write about the fact that anytime you are responsible for bringing a child into this world then regardless of your personal feelings about whoever you have to be a father a supporter a role model. All those things that come along with it to that child not just pay some money out because you have money you have to be a real true father because that's your responsibility and if you don't then you're missing the boat for mendaciously and you're hurting. A young kid live by not doing that. I think pretty much everybody knows what happened with andre reisen and his girlfriend lisa left eye where she got left eye lopes where she got angry with him and burned down his atlanta mansion. What's the story behind that. Well it's a tremendous crazy. Love story run for sure. Okay I tell about how emotional that night was for them and how they went from one club to another club and and and the fights that they got into and caused her to ultimately do what she did and it was an accident. She wasn't trying to burn house down But i tell what caused to do it. And i explain what andres reaction was to all of this and what was on my phone o'clock in the morning and the builder who had worked with own home in atlanta called me and said andres houses on five tanking. Looks like it's gonna burn to the ground. And i just think about andres reaction and what he was really concerned about. What was her motivation for doing it. She was really pissed off and andrei and he had the shoes that he loved Several pair of shoes and andre was a shoe lover and he loved these particular three or four pairs of shoes and she was so pissed off at him that she wanted to take those shoes and she wanted to barnum and so she took the shoes and she put the shoes in a fiberglass bathtub in that back last bath to caught on fire and she didn't know it and she came back up to the room. Everything was on fire that would burn down a house burnt down. We got to know. Ray caruth a little bit when he played in the east west shrine game out here in the bay area and i remember interviewing him and he was just a wonderful person. Where did things go wrong with him that he ends up going to prison for setting up his girlfriend to be murdered. I don't know. I talk about in the book It has a lot of things about that. Don't make sense to me. I got to know the the guys who were involved in that because they were hanger owners. They they want the wanted to wash race car. They wanted to go to clubs and do little things with him and But they were closer to sharia then they were right because they were because france and It just doesn't make sense to me a lot of it. Because ray was going to the classes with her and This ideal that he would didn't wanna pay fifteen hundred dollars when he was making a million. All of it doesn't see it. I don't understand it. Socially and emotionally. Do you find that. Athletes generally are a little bit. You know their their hand handcuffed to some way that they really haven't developed totally because of the way they've been raised kind of catered to all their lives. I think that that is a very very true statement. you know when you're in the business representing athletes you realize that they have been Nurtured they've been sheltered They've been able to make mistakes and do things at the number. Normal teenager would have done them would have been gotten all kinds of trouble and chastise and everything and then they been it on the back and say hey look you know. Just don't do that anymore because you know better And so. I think that it hurts them. And it holds them back and it kinda handcuffed him like you said we only have about a minute left but Do you think the fact that some of these athletes have not many of these athletes come from single parent. Homes is a factor. As well. I think most of these athletes come from single parent homes and that certainly is a detriment within itself. You know you we both know that And i talk about that. Talk about that some in the book and what could be done to improve that situation. Well you know it's like it's like me. One of the things i wanna do is i want to get in and i wanna be able to go to colleges and high schools. I want to talk about things that need to be done in our systems. I want to talk about the flaws in our systems. And i want to teach young kids how to stay away from the some of the problems that players run into and some of the things. I did that playoff. Run into and just be able to teach them how to stay away from Certain things and certain issues. And i think that'd be great thing with this. I'd like to talk about some of those things you'd like to recommend. Can you hang with us for another segment I think i have time to do another segment Let me check. Okay go ahead okay. How just give me thirty seconds. Okay tank black is with us. Sports byline fascinating subject and again. You're here's ron bar tank. Black is found out that he can indeed sped another segment with us. And as i alluded before the break. I want to talk to him about some of the mistakes have been made by athletes and what might be able to be done to prevent this from happening in the future. I think we've got to start with just the moral compass on athletes. I mean. I think we talked a little bit about steroid. Use have found over the years of interviewing athletes. Tank that Rarely would an athlete say it's not worth cheating or it's not worth bending the rules in order to get the result that they're looking for is that in the crux or is that the foundation of the problem that we have when athletes run into problems. I believe that it is the crux of the problem. I think that There's so much on the line that sometimes athletes are put into situations where they feel like they have to cheat or they have to do something special in order to be able to keep pace with the game that they're playing at the end of the day like most things that shortcut is never worked it. It's something that Gives you the opportunity To actually lose everything that you have instead of game and it's just never a good ideal. You're already a talented player. You already have The skills in the talented it takes to play in the league that you're playing in and just go out and work hard and stay in the weight room and do the things that you've always done to be able to compete and i think if we look at society in general i'm gonna give you a very tangible example grant hill and i were talking about this i said grant what do you think that Young kids see when they look at you and he said. I wish they'd see how hard i worked to get where i was but what they see is the car. I drive the jewelry. I'm wearing and they know the money that i'm making. So is the system in a really the thing that's responsible for kind of up our values here. Well i think that the system helps perpetrate it. And i think the fact that we don't have enough people Stand up until athletes and players. What they should and shouldn't be doing. I think that that that hurts for example When i was representing all these players. I don't hold players up on a test i never have It's my job to be able to tell them what i really think. A good example would have been I've met negotiating. Deal for terry allen with the washington redskins it's going to be making the third highest paid running back in the national football league and he goes out. He buys a motorcycle. i didn't know it. I'm on the road. When i find out soon as i find out about it i called terry and i tell them listen. You sell that motorcycle you'll give it back. I don't care what you do with it but you give it back or else you can find somebody else. Do you contract. I'm not gonna finish this crap because he knows that he doesn't need to be riding a motorcycle when my point is you don't have enough people who are willing to stand up to players and tell them what they should and shouldn't be doing. Everybody wants to pamper them. And that's that's part of the problem. But you know as well as i do tank. That that's a minefield for an agent. And what i mean by. That is because they've told yes. Yes yes or what. Can i do for you. All along the way in their lives that if somebody stands up to them and tells them something they don't wanna hear they're going to tell you to go screw off. Not of my guys did you. What's that side you. i'm gonna do great job for you that you're gonna wanna stay but i'm not going to tell i'm gonna tell you the things that you need to hear sterling and i had fallouts. He could have got mad at me and live. He got mad at me. Wouldn't come offices much but he he never left you know. I told him that he should be a better father. He got pissed off at me. And said i should mind my business but i didn't. I told him over and over. That's how i feel safe. I worry about when it comes to. Athletes is the fact that especially young kids. We know about the trickle down effect. You know there's going to be a lot of them out there tank. That are gonna listen to this interview. And they're going to hear these stories and it's kind of burst their bubble not that they're naive but they are just simply young. If indeed it does trickle down and young kids are impressed by what athletes do in the way they do it. What is the message them. Will you know like there are a lot of athletes that present the right message because they work hard. They do what they're supposed to do. They stay out of trouble and we're all human. We all make mistakes and so Of us have any right to cast stones. What we would like to know. Is that the athlete is able to surround themselves with enough people that are doing the right things were that they don't have to worry about stepping outside those lines You know. I didn't help when i gave players money's because that was against the rules if i had to do that all over again you were part of the problem. Then i was. I was part the problem alone with a lots of other people. And if i had to do it all over again i wouldn't do it because i understand how important it is that you have a completely consistent model in a completely consistent message that you're giving the players. My message was ninety ninety percent. It was a great message to kids. And i was great for kids but at the same time i painted that like giving players money when i knew it was going through. And you know what i agree with you about. It's only a handful of the bad apples that really give everybody else a bad name. So i'm going to bring this up because i've been very critical of my profession. Which is the media. It seems like what we personify and what we publicize. Is those athlete that do the wrong. Things is media problem today because of the way they cover sports and the things that they say in the debate and the sports talk shows in the blogs. And all of that. Oh oh absolutely. The media is part of that. Problem is will you know. The media is more into the fact that they they sway public opinion these days rather than become reporters of news or media has become a missionaries for swaying public opinion. I wanna get into the the cash Aspect of this. Because when i read through all the information and i was reading parts of the book i felt that the mistake that you made tank was that you co mingled. The representation of athletes with helping them invest their money. Am my correct in that you're right. I made a serious mistake. It was the fact that i was not qualified to say to somebody. I think that you should invest in this. Why did you do that. Well because i i just thought it was a good investment. I thought it was a good investment. I had learned a lot about it. My my attorneys recommend recommending it Give you example that head coach. Danny ford was a part of this investment it. The head coach university of south carolina was a part of this investment And so they had ten thousand investors. It wasn't just our fifteen or twenty players in me. There were two thousand investors in kashmir titles and i thought it was an outstanding investment. Turned out later on. It turned out to be a ponzi scheme. And so when that happened it was the worst day of my life. I what i did was. I started giving players money. Hundreds of thousands of dollars. I have checks that. I gave the fred taylor killian terry allen the players who are in it. I'd already gotten over half of our guys. But then i tried to sell my company so that i can make them whole. I mean i did all kinds of things to try to make sure to protect these players. Because i'm the one who told him. I thought it was gonna investment. You didn't see it as a conflict of interest representation and then suggesting to somebody to invest their money here there. I not at that time. I did not at all. And you know what it probably comes from the world that i that i came from and that is agents or brokers you know they make deals They're they're making deals every day on all kinds of things and so for me to bring somebody to the.
