A Russian court is hearing an appeal by American basketball star Brittany griner against her 9 year prison sentence for drug possession The WNBA's Brittany griner was convicted August 4th after Russian police said they found vape canisters containing cannabis oil in her luggage at the airport in Moscow She was in the country to play for a Russian team in the off season Granny's not in court for the appeal hearing but taking part by a video from a prison cell at a penal colony Griner said she had inadvertently packed the canisters but had no criminal intent her defense team presented written statements that she had been prescribed cannabis to treat pain Meanwhile the Biden administration has also offered a prisoner exchange but says it has not yet received a productive response from Russia
