Listen: Administrator, California And Columbine discussed on Ethan Bearman
"In. And let me know what happens in their school lo and behold, we've got my checking in from San Jose Mike school administrative for twenty five years, right? Well, teen twenty-five in education got it. Okay. And what have you found in the classroom? Now, it used to be a district administrator that was in charge of making sure that every school site had safety plan intact and just going to. To your point. And I'm not going to debate the issue. I just thought I went a couple of thoughts here back in the early two thousand I think nineteen ninety nine even right after the Columbine shooting. And I was a teacher when that happened. There were a bunch of false alarms that went off on that day as a result of that incident happening in Columbine. And I remember we actually went out to do. Our our typical drill for fire will evacuate the building. Because the school shooter drills more in place at that time shortly after that, I went into administration that the next year we were required by state law, California state law SP, one eighty two which was to make sure that every school had have a planning place be more deducted, and those those safety plans include a whole host of things. But among those things that they were supposed to. Make sure were included were safety drills conducted at least twice a year. And they included earthquake drills report in California, of course, fired fire drills and added to that list of drills will also school shooter drills. In in Santa Clara county, which is where I work. I won't make the district high school district most nice little kid. So the Asian that you see are you referring to you that for young child? I can I can absolutely understand my kids have gone through the school system here. You have to forgive me. I'm losing my voice today. Now, it's twenty classes all day I've been talking so. Well, the information is good. So keep going. But so there were several drills are required to carry them out twice a year. The first one is usually, you know, the Moore mind everybody how to do them. Everybody's done these rules for me for years and the second one is kind of grading on. How we improved in the in the first one is self-improvement and the safety rules that we conduct for school shooter specific because that's the topic that your address tonight I used to put together, and we hire a private contractors to give us training, and these are usually out ex law enforcement, but starting businesses and safe school safety things safety personnel have done these kinds of things too. So that we can be on the same page with law enforcement, or, you know, first responders whether it's ambulance and fire department. So we know how to do things if there's a disaster at the school major earthquake natural disaster. And so on. So we all use the same language to go to your point about the seeping that the active shooter language seeping into the language of the school administrator teacher, then they'll students"
