27 major wildfires are burning in California, and at least five of them are in Southern California. Cal Fire says more than 14,000 Firefighters have been on the frontlines battling flames, doing backfires and cutting containment lines. Most of the fires in northern California were started by lightning strikes. In fact, Cal fire, meteorologists say between the 15th and 23rd. There have been 12,000 lightning strikes. It has sparked more than 615 smaller fires. Fire officials estimate the current fires have burned more than 1.3 million acres. They say they hope some leftover moisture from Hurricane Genevieve can bring some relief. As long as it doesn't create more lightning.
