Police officer shortage rising in St. Louis City


The St Louis police department is supposed to have more than thirteen hundred officers but it's short more than a hundred and fifty officers St Louis police officers association president officer Jay Schroeder says it's worse than that we're a hundred and fifty two policemen down on the whole department but the effects of those is where actually a hundred and sixty nine down the street so that these other units are full strength and if a loss comes out they take it's coming from the streets and on top of that Schroeder says there are another fifty St Louis city police officers not able to work on the streets because of injuries the result he says police aren't visible enough to deter crime response times are up things like car break ins can take more than an hour the answer he says is to scrap the residency rule and raise police pay to recruit and retain more
