Listen: Huskies, Salt Lake City and Football discussed on News, Traffic and Weather
"Hours and fourteen minutes away from kickoff at Salt Lake City between Washington and Utah the Pac twelve opener for both programs. The huskies already played in a hostile environment to open the season Atlanta's Mercedes Benz stadium, supposedly a neutral site, but let's face it that was auburn's home game and the reform thousand tiger fans. They're the dogs are ready for more venom coming their way tonight in Salt Lake City. I mean, obviously, we just two weeks ago came off a hostile environment down in Atlanta. But this reminds me just last year our Pac twelve opener against Colorado that was juice. It was loud. It was a hard-fought game. And this is going to be probably ten times that there's you dubs defensive coordinator Jimmy lake. The huskies have practiced with deafening crowd noise all week. But certainly no way to replicate the real deal. They'll experienced firsthand there at rice stadium with forty eight thousand youths fans getting on Greg. Gilbey toughest road stadiums. Let's go with coach I to get your team ready was at autzen in Eugene. Or is there some other place? It's just been really nasty to take the huskies. Well, autzen in two thousand was was was the noisiest most difficult place I ever coach to call the game in it was so loud. They couldn't hear you on the sideline. And we were really disrupted that first half change things round half. That had a lot better second half option two thousand far and away the noisiest place. I'd ever tried to call plays in a place. We've always seemed to struggle, and I'm not sure wise been in Tempe. It's not real noisy. Most of the time. But it has been a tough tough place for the huskies to play. And in the NFL players in pro football, Kansas City wasn't place in the NFL for us. Coats is tough awesome. Because it's hot as hell. That's why I don't care if they gave the seven o'clock at night you've been in the heat all day. Arizona. I'm sorry. Tippy for me, let me go back to my freshman year because it was my first time playing in a real big away stadium. As a as a eighteen year old kid. We went down and played the twelfth man, we play Texas A M and their stadium. When the real original twelve men was showing themselves to be an extremely tough place to play. I still say a prayer for our quarterback. Chris Chris Chandler because he got beat the hell up that game. And I felt bad for him that was a tough place. But in the Pac tin at the time autzen was certainly, you know, my freshman and sophomore year, we went down there. Two years in a row and came away with two very tough losses and not only was it loud. But it was crazy. They were throwing things they were spitting at us. They were doing everything you can think of that wasn't very neighborly as our neighbors to the south as you say so tho-, those two were the toughest places for me to play in my college using your right coach I played against Kansas City every year my NFL career 'cause I was with the Broncos and the old AFC west, and that was a tough nasty place to play. I'm surprised you didn't bring up Folsom field because I was there with you too. And I thought that was very nasty with the cores kegs in every seat did seem like with the university of Colorado. Greg Lewis guilty. You called the place for him that opening dry was just immaculate. And it was a darn good football. Not game. But I let the fans were really into it and very loud. Intimidating and the right on top. Even the buffalo is right on top. Hey, guys few years later. I went back with the Rick new Heisel show back in now that was crazy. It was certainly one of the toughest opponents to ever play on the road. And then, you know, the the the the air thinness of the air made that little tougher. But the thing that scared me the most about that stadium was that in buffalo. Backup on when he came out the sideline. I literally saw him dragging. The people were supposed to be holding him. Like are they gonna jumped up in the stadium? That was crazy. I had to up closest with ralphie, and I don't want any part of it anymore. You know, what's under appreciated about Salt Lake City elevation? It's better than four thousand feet. Now. It's not boulder, but you know, we also have smoke in wind down there. And I you consider how high it is. This could be a factor tonight for the guys from sea level. Hey, there's no question. That crowd is Salt Lake City of play some games, they like their football, and you can't confuse them with their neighbors to the forty miles south BYU, they're vastly different their hostile they're noisy. And they used to have given them a lot to cheer about in the last ten twelve years. Well, the huskies are ranked tenth in the nation picked to win the Pac twelve north maybe the whole conference, and they have a huge target on their jerseys. All season long, including tonight in Salt Lake City. Just ahead on the Coors, light, husky tailgate show a little football road trip history lesson we'll stay with that theme. This is the Washington IMG sports network home street bag was born in Seattle. And for nearly one hundred years, we've been your neighbor a passionate supporter of local communities from sponsoring the huskies special events like see fair nurturing basic."
