Listen: Green Bay Packers, National Football League And Rogers discussed on CBS Sports Radio
"You're able to start the celebration early. That game kicks off at eight. Oh, five by about nine forty. You could start celebrating. Yeah. Imagine dragons was entertaining. Asian celebrate that game was over one sixteen. Yeah. Once that interception wants to through that. I. Pick six. Right away, the top again that kind of set a toll make you wonder. Wow. Clemson just just sent that. The first punch across the face Taliban this game just started. But yeah, look up a perfect game. Perfect ending to end the perfect season. Which for Clemson? I if you didn't catch the front end of our show to a fifteen and old it finished fifteen in oh eight zero and the ACC, and that was the most we've heard a lot of folks know, take a shot here at them. Basically goes they're coming out of the ACC, and they don't they don't play out. They don't play the better programs at the SEC does and all the stuff or even something to say the big ten's better than the ACC as a whole. It's don't matter. Clemson is. I don't care what conference they're in. Including Alabama the Alabama early conference you want, but they're in the best conference in the SEC. Clemson's not Clemson is is the kings of kings. They are the best. That's that's simple. You do what you did last night. The alabama. Look you. You are the cherry on top of that beautiful ice cream Sunday. You are the key to everything you are the king of college football. And that's the Clemson Tigers. Saw they certainly are here on this Tuesday morning after their Monday night performance last night. So your calls at eight five five four two two seven eight five five two one two four CBS reacted to the national championship game last night that with Dabo and clemson's way in that game was being played. It did have some L head coaching news in the National Football League. That is that is awfully intriguing attached that the Green Bay Packers identified who their guy is and Matt leflore offense coordinator with the Tennessee titans. Used to be a part of the Rams staff. The Redskins staff with McVay as well. Falcon he is now going to be the Green Bay Packers head coach everyone's looking for the next Sean McVeigh and leflore who we thought was going to get some look. From NFL teams. There are a number of job openings across the National Football League. He ends up land in one of the primer spots. Our Rogers even at this stage of his career, but a great organization. Historical franchise in the Packers. They're going to go with a very very young coach in Matt leflore. Yeah. It's interesting. You know, Matt leflore he's got a history is working with quarterbacks. I mean, that's what he does. That's what he's done. So well as quarterback coach with the Redskins for several years and with the falcons had a one year at Notre Dame college level. So and that's what the Ramseys send the titans. But here's the thing. You know? It's it's interesting to me because at Rogers, we know, right? We know who are Raja's well, well as far as Gaza covered spotted on on personally. But we know that is one of the best ever. We know his talent we know is work ethic. We know all that. But we also know that our Raja's wants around wants when I Rogers wants he wants he's got he's got an ego. And he he wants he wants to write guys around him. I just for the Packers. I hope that our Rogers had some say Innis. I doubt it. But because this could be interesting, you got a guy who's a young coach coming in here where you know, usually. It's like you want the players to buy the coach has and and you've got to wonder here is what's going to happen? What already what before? And now rajas are they gonna get along? Is he going to respect this kid? I'm calling the kid's head coach young. You know what I mean? Like Rogers might look at a Mike as a kid. I'm not I don't know that. But I'm just saying, you know, you could be a little funky say, I think do what you have to hire. I listen to I think anyone with with Rogers personality, he could ruffle some feathers. I I would have on time thinking that Rogers is part of the interview process has you know, they might have given them a heads up and say this is where we're going to go. We're going to go with an offensive minded coach you're going to go with the floor and give a map. But don't you think it's a little little a little much to think that he's part of that that coaching process to bring out right guy. Yeah. As you're not doing right by your franchise. I mean, I. I get. I mean, they are paying Rogers a ton of money. I mean, he's also got a buy in as well. Stories with McCarthy. I'm I'm not disagree with you know, he's an ordinary guy. We heard the stories with McCarthy, we know the relationship there was frayed. But I also can't bring it a coach. It's just gonna placate Tara. Roger bring a coach a vision for the overall team for the franchisee rush to accomplish buying into the man, I totally agree with you. And when I'm saying, and again, I'm just giving maybe like a quasi by potential thing that could have happened. Maybe only reason I'm saying that's because we saw an Raja's basically a public tizzy during the off season. Because what was it? They find the. The quarterback coach, and he was very pissed. I raja. Well, I didn't know I was like, basically, I'm paraphrasing is like why wasn't a loop. I didn't know about this. And you know, he's he's you know, everybody knows at him. Mccarthy you have a lot of had had a lot of tension. I I got a feeling night to your point that the Packers didn't talk to our Rogers one bit about this. But I I agree. I if I'm going to hire four leflore I wanna hire him for the future and the future for the Packers has not an Raja's. He's not getting the younger. But I I'm also looking to try and win with Iraq to. Until I mean, I would think if I'm Rogers I'm sitting there and saying it until I know otherwise I've got a buy in. I've got to go all in now. I I'm going to the McCarthy's God, whoever the next head coach might be. And now, we know it's leflore that he's got to be all in your job as a professor. Oh. Team. I mean, and he's got to be better than he was this past year. Yes, he didn't throw a lot of interceptions. But he led the National Football League and throwaways. Yeah. So it was like he was trying to force the football in or or or give us receivers a chance to go out there and make a play. We know that it was a little bit bothered by the inexperience of the young wide receivers in Green Bay. What's fascinating to me ties with this higher as to play to what extent kinda branch out of your point? Is you go with a team that got a win? Now quarterback you go with a coach that very inexperienced. And I get all your understand what McVeigh did and has done in Los Angeles with the Rams. We all saw what NATO is done in Chicago with the bears won twelve and four. I get lost this past weekend. Everyone's looking for that next guy. And I'm not saying there should not be turnover in the NFL one retread after other break this whole football coach guy off L pull him out of the broadcast booth. Do they pay him eight nine million dollars a year? No, I'm all for young guys. Getting a chance I do find it fascinating though, based on the personality of Rogers that he is a win now quarterback an organization that I think is looking to try and get into the Super Bowl sooner rather than later. They go with a coach there's as inexperienced as Matt leflore is because we can always searching for the next Sean McVeigh. And there could be a lot of teams that have a lot attornal trying to find the next Sean McVeigh because that's what makes him so special. There's not going to be another Sean McVay just like there's going to be another Larry Bird or Michael, Jordan. Tom Brady for special for a reason. Right. Well, because they have a talent doesn't and maybe their age doesn't as I don't have anything to do with it. You know what? I mean. Maybe it's just they just that special love of a coach. I mean, look what speak Carol what he's doing with the Seahawks. I mean, they agree. P cows older than dirt. And I like pekao Carol also failed with the jets jail put the patriots jet fan at that time. That went to USC built an unbelievable program. I know everything that the NC double A the infractions out there. But runs an unbelievable program went to the back to the NFL TASR everyone say while he's a college coach college coach guys will respond to him. He's got the playoffs. Seven times in nine years in Seattle. Works does work. The point being is Carol also failed on two previous occasions. Check failed in Cleveland. Before he ultimately six. So let me ask you this. As you look at the floor. I was surprised with an older quarterback. I'm not saying leflore can't be successful. But I was surprised that they went with such an unexpired inexperience head coaching. Green Bay buddy must overwhelmed them in the I guess, so I guess so you know, you have all the guy's head coach. I mean, the guys out there. Right. What head coach experience? Like, I David short Stanford. All I haul Baugh, Michigan and all that stuff. These guys have legitimate. No matter if it's D one end or NFL experience as a head coach, you know. I mean, but you said the word fit before with the Packers. And I think that's the key. And you gotta assume Packers brass front office. They hired LA because the fit because they felt like he fit the model they want. I hope dude. I hope it's not a case where all these NFL teams that the coaches now are not going to do this way the young guy model look at Nagy look. Look. Kingsbury kings varies no longer part of USC staff. They write them off the website. I know they were they were trying to hold them back. Try to hold them back. Isn't that the way that it's going, right? Definitely is. Everyone's looking for the next McVay McVay two point. Oh, McVay three point. Oh, whatever. We're all looking for that next guy clip Kingsbury. And I think he's a wonderful offensive mind. He's just got fired at Texas Tech went to USC is the offensive coordinator is now interviewing for head coaching opportunities with the jets and the Arizona Cardinals. Yeah. I know I know people the NFL that feel like he is going to get one of those jobs. I think what a guy like leflore getting this here getting his job with the Packers as the head coach. Okay. Without any head coaching experience. At all this got started coaching on D two level at Saginaw valley. State. He was an offensive assistant. Okay. Then moved on to central Michigan for companies. He was an offensive assistant. He's always close on the side of the ball. He's coached Alaba quarterbacks, bro. He's never been. I maybe with a high school head coach somewhere the net. So he's not it just if you think about the point you're making here, you're going to go to the elite of the elite of the elite would know head coaching experience, not saying you can't flourish. Maybe he can. It's just it's crazy. It's a big game. Yeah. It is a big risk. And who isn't in we owe you always obviously want to be with the times. And but it is a copycat league for a reason in the National Football League. So that's why you're seeing all these young offensive minds getting an opportunity guys that could develop a quarterback good communication style. Working was a veteran players you look at it."
