Listen: Dwayne Haskins, Trevor Lawrence And Alabama discussed on Boomer and Gio
"Think it was nineteen eighty five or eighty six to win the national championship. And do it in such impressive. Former I mean, it was it was a beatdown last night. And the thing about NFL football fans in terms of Trevor Lawrence. He will not be available for two more years. That's right because of the NFL rules, and you know, there's a lot of debate about that out there should this kid be able to come out of college. You know, my thing is, and I think Peyton Manning would probably tell you enjoy college man, just you know, you're nineteen years old. You are the national championship champion at Clemson university. Which I can't even imagine what that places like right now. But it is is a great place to play football is a great place to go to school and have fun. And enjoy a man I didn't like them when I was at Marilyn back in the ACC days because they we used to call their their fundraising arm. It was called. I don't know if it's still to this day. The the acronym was. PTA y okay. And I'm not really sure what it really means. But we said we said that it it meant I pay three athletes a year. So I went to school there. But at the end of the day is a great place to play. He had an awesome night last night. He'll be the number one overall draft pick in two years. I don't know why everybody's in a rush to get him out of there. And I know that twain Haskins has left Ohio State. There seems like there's a lot of stuff going on at Ohio State right now this all changes in urban Meyer. Yeah. So this this kid's probably coming at the right time because there's really no clear cut number one quarterback that will be drafted. I think he goes to the top of the list now. And now comes everything that you're gonna find out about him over the next three months, and it's all going to be pretty much arm strength. Body style. Whether he's a pocket pass, or whatever I think we all concede that he's a pocket passer. And it looks like to me that he has what it takes to be a professional football quarterback in terms of stature and everything else. And when I listened to him give his his interviews and everything he sounds like he's with it, man. It sounds like he knows what he wants. So welcome to the draft class of two thousand nineteen Dwayne Haskins. And I do think that the giants will seriously seriously consider him. If somebody else doesn't go up in front of the giants maybe the Jaguars or whoever to take him before he falls to the giants. So Dave Gettleman has got a lot of work to do. Yeah. And I wonder he's approach going into this off season with Dwayne Haskins. Because it seemed like last year he felt like if he didn't love one of those quarterbacks. It was okay. Not to take a quarterback because he felt like there was a lot left in Eli manning and saquon Barkley for him, right? But you know, what I'm saying that the difference between gentlemen last year. Heading into the draft is going to be a lot different than this year. So I wonder does he still have that same feeling that if he likes a guy, but maybe thinks there's a project element to him which many people say because Dwayne Haskins is young he's giving up two years of eligibility that yes, there's going to be some development issues there does he ended up taking that guy this year because he knows he's between a rock and a hard place. And that's what's going to be interesting to me because last year. I mean, he was very adamant very opinionated that you know, we don't have to take a quarterback. It's one of these things you keep telling us we have to. We don't have to do. I mean here you this year. If you didn't see last year this year, you really have to do. So is he going to be willing to look at the faults of someone like Dwayne Haskins? And instead of saying like he did last year. Like other players better than him say, you know, we need the future at the most important position. And I'm willing to work with some of the shortcomings that he has now that we hope he develops. Everybody has shortcomings, you know, the kid through fifty four touchdown passes this year and had a unbelievable season Paul how state so I part of me says I wish it would stay there. And just enjoy the college life another year, and and do what he's capable of doing. Then there's another part of me and says, you know, this is the time for him to come out because he most likely will be the first quarterback taken which means that's a lot of money. And I I was impressed with him watching his games. He looked great. He looked like he had the statutory at the arm strength had the accuracy at the quick release. I liked the way that he held the ball all the things that I think we saw last night from Lawrenson and to us the two, by the way, actually. To me the reason that Alabama loss last night was because the Clemson defense. I mean that was to me shutting down Alabama the way that they did in confusing Alabama the way that they did is a real. I think feather in the cap of the defense coordinator, Brent Venables of Clemson to me that that was the shocking part of it you expect Alabama scored thirty points every game. Sure. And they got drilled and they had no answers for what confidence defense was doing men. Of course. Now, you flip it. And then you watch the quarterback play, and you see the MVP and all that other stuff you realize that you know, that kid is special as well. But it was a total beat down last night. And I do think that Trevor Lawrence in two years, we'll be the number one overall pick. It was interesting is a lot of draft talk going into this game. And then last night because of the two quarterbacks such high profile guys. And you know, this thought that I hear is one that drives me nuts with teams that need quarterbacks is, well, maybe the smarter thing to do is not reach on a guy this year, find a bridge guy and then go after two next year or Trevor Lawrence a year after that, do you know how much changes within the NFL and a couple of years and teams come quarterbacks."
