Listen: Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton And Caroline Frederickson discussed on Thom Hartmann
"Back with Caroline Frederickson for the American fusion side of the president, the Agust Arcand of the American society, a pro-democracy judicial or legal group. And you were saying about site in the in the wake of, of cavenaugh, and Gorsuch is appointments and confirmations that a lot of people are waking up. What are some of the signs you're seeing that people are waking up? And what are they doing about it? What are you saying, sort of institutionally people try to see the Risk Board of kind of political apparatus? Right. Well to great question. So number one, the actual presidential candidates are really talking about this issue, you know, that kind of pathetic that we note that, but, you know, I'm sorry in the path, you know that hasn't really happened. I'm even though I think Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. You know, both lawyers and they both you know have a keen sense of, of the importance to the court. They just didn't talk about. On their campaigns, even though I think for Hillary Clinton, you know, there was a profound issue of because of Barack Obama's nominee, Merrick garland had been blocked hadn't even gotten a hearing. There was a, you know, an opening on the court. So it's an issue that, you know, would have been, I think galvanizing, but instead, she chose to run away from it Brock Obama when he was running talk about the courts, and so, but now we have almost every presidential candidate only talking about, you know, the dangers of Trump court, but also talking about reforms that could be implemented because the court has gotten to be so far to the right. And so over powerful that many theaters dangerous sort of the, the whole idea of checks, and balances separation of powers has gotten, you know, out of whack because the supreme court has. Arrogated so much power to it self to check congressional actions that is, you know, the, the actions of the democratically elected brand, and that to me is the yeah, that to me is the good news. Maybe paternity, but the great threat is when presidential candidates in my experience, my memory democratic presidential candidates, talk about the courts, they would bring rubbers way they bring up choice, but it's so clear now that we're also talking about fundamental environmental protections. We're talking about is their healthcare policy that congress can sit that will stick. Or will it be a limited by courts. It's about voter access, and whether or not that right wing strategist will be able to block access to the polls. Otherwise valid voters. It's about campaign, finance, and whether the campaign system where their entire system, actually flooded, and just entirely doubt has been flooded. Whether it be entirely dominated by secret money. I mean, it's essentially every issue am I an alarmist when I say that my fear is in? Fact, another Lochner era, that is an era that where we see a recovery out of our next recession. Hopefully not a depression trying to do stuff about it. And then have an entrenched court that blocks democracies efforts to solve common problems. Now I I'm with you when I wake up in the middle of the night. This is the these are the nightmare said, have have woken me up. Yeah, I do. I'm very rate. These are people trying to Trump nominees will not. They believe that Brown versus board of education was a properly decided court."
