Listen: President, John. And America discussed on Michael Berry
"John. I explain what you heard from the president that is new and good afternoon. Yeah. What we knew all the plan yesterday. So the president reiterating it in the rose garden today in pointing out that it's been more than half a century, since the last Hct hall of America's legal immigration laws. He was talking on the campaign trail about American based system. He was very envious when Justin Trudeau the prime minister of candidate came down and was talking about candidates merit. Based immigration system and said that's something that I want for America. So after months of deliberation here at the White House, the president unveiling his new plan, which would really shift the criteria for becoming a green card holder, a path to citizenship in the United States from family based to skills, based and employment base. Currently twelve percent of people come into the country based on employment or skills. The president wants to increase that to fifty seven percent family based immigration is currently sixty six percent. The president wants to cut that in half to thirty three percent. He would still reserve ten percent of green cards for people based on humanitarian or other needs, but sharp note, here, the president wants to end the visa lottery program, the president talked about this idea of build America visa, they would recognize extraordinary talent people with professional and specialized vocations and exceptional students. He talked about a point system being adopted that would give people points for age the younger, the better English proficiency, an offer of employment above a certain threshold or. The offer of creating jobs, educational vocational certificate certifications, the president talked at the rose garden here about how he thinks this plan will make America different. Listen here. Today, we are presenting a clear, contrast, Democrats, proposing, open, borders, lower wages, and frankly, lawless chaos. We are proposing an immigration plan that puts the jobs wages and safety of American workers. I. And to that, end the council of economic advisers yesterday when they brief Fox News gave us some idea of how they believe changing the immigration system could change the American economy, grow the GDP and even increased tax revenues. Because currently the average yearly income of illegal immigrants in this country is about forty three thousand dollars for people who are allowed into the country and employment skills based level that income level is one hundred twenty six thousand dollars a year. So if you were to adopt the new percentages at the president is talking about the average income of legal immigrants in this country would be about ninety three thousand dollars, which the council of economic advisers says would help grow GDP and even increased tax revenue for the treasury department now as to whether or not this will fly Democrats have laid out some markers. We'll talk about that in just a second, Ed. But there are also some things that this doesn't include that I know you wanna talk about John, obviously a lot of important details of what's in the plan in terms of what's not in it. The president. Noting, a Republican Senator Lindsey Graham was there in the rose garden. He's trying to focus on his own Bill in the short term that will deal with cracking down on illegal immigration. This Bill also doesn't have DACA in their sounds like some moderate Republicans are not happy about that. Yeah. You know that the president has talked in the past about some sort of a fixed, for DACA, some sort of a path to status, but they did not include that in this plan because really what they're trying to do is to try to rally Republicans support around this idea of changing the legal immigration system DACA, and what to do about the other eleven million undocumented migrants in this country may come a little further on in the process of, and if you get up against a wall with Democrats you might throw in protections for document at the moment, this, this really is more of a political document than anything at the looking for something for twenty twenty you heard the president say if we don't get this through now with support from the Democrats, we will after the twenty twenty election when Republicans take back the house and keep the presidency so that the president right now. I don't think really trying to. Get democratic support just try to find something for Republicans to rally around. Yeah. And John important that you mentioned that because the president himself talked about his own reelection at the end. They're injecting politics, for sure. And that was after speaker Pelosi had already lit this plan up a little bit."
