How to Meditate with Your Higher Brain

Do. You ever wonder why when you sit down to meditate. It just doesn't seem to happen. Waves of worrying thoughts moved through our head, our anxiety and stress just doesn't seem to settle down after five minutes ten minutes or even minutes. Even, though we're sitting very still, and were watching our breath or trying to let thoughts go. Our mind just doesn't seem to let us meditate. There seems to be a battle in our head. We want to meditate, but we can't call the mind. Why is this? While I've heard many teachings from very learned meditation Masters throughout the years. What are the most cogent explanations came recently when I sat down with Dr. Albert Oviedo, the medical anthropologist and author of bestselling books including Shaman Healer Sage. We record the podcast at his mountain retreat center in Chile. On the PODCAST, Dr Viola explains how our brain health is crucial to our meditation, practice and spiritual development. You have a broken brain. You can't meditate, he explains. If your brain is producing stress molecules such as cortisol and adrenaline. It is going to be impossible to meditate. We have to have the physical substrate. We can't just will ourselves to meditate. So? How do we create this physical substrate to meditate? It has to do with what we eat. That's right what we eat. And importantly what we don't put in our stomachs impacts directly our ability to calm the mind to look inward, and to gain all the benefits. We know there is to receive from meditation. On the PODCAST. Dr Field explains what parts of the brains are active when we're stressed when our flight or fight modes are active, which are found in the Reptilian and Mammalian parts of the brain. But in order to meditate, he explains. We need to take up residence in the higher brain, the NEO CORTEX and prefrontal lobes where the bliss molecules are produced where we experienced the divine and transcendence. It is very clear on the podcast that what we eat directly impacts where our brain is firing. Hint here. It has something to do with Akito Diet. Dr Field or reveals to us the optimal nutrition for meditators and what we might want to avoid if we want to take our meditation practice to the next level. I hope you enjoy this fascinating interview and be on the lookout for the next episode where Albert Dough and Linda finch guide us in a morning breathing meditation to strengthen our luminous energy field, but for now sit back and enjoy my conversation with Dr Albert Veto. So welcome Alberto to the hey house meditation podcast. Thank you Matteo good to be with you I'm. Very interested to talk to you about our meditation practice and how our brain health. Relates to that meditation practice. A lot of us have a lot of challenges with. Meditation and I was fascinating in reading your work and listen to your lectures recently about how our brain health can support that meditation practice. So can you talk a little bit about that? Absolutely you if you have a broken brain? You cannot meditate. If your brain is producing only distress molecules which are Adrenalin Cortisol it's impossible to meditate. You can get angry or you're GONNA WANNA. Check your emails. So in order to be able to meditate, we need to access the higher brain, which is the brain that produces the bliss molecules because you need. The chemical substrate is not just a mental thing, not just a mind. We can't just will ourself into meditation. Will it many of us try just? To. Push through. That's kind of we call that. Be masochistic. Him So you mentioned the higher brain. What is that? Could you explain to our listeners exactly what that means? He's sort of four parts of the brain. We have four distinctly different brands Heinemann anatomically different brains that evolved during different periods in history. I rip dillion brain, which is in charge housekeeping, and we share that with all the reptiles snakes, the alligators, not particularly lovable, but that this brain no love. Knows body temperature, heart, rate, housekeeping autonomic functions. All the audit keeps his breathing for example. When we think about it, you know for example, dolphins don't have breathing programmed into their pillion brand, so they're part of an experiment where you had to breathe consciously. That's why only half their brains sleeps in any one time. But in top of the Brazilian brainers, the Mammalian brand that we share with all the mammals. And this is the brain of the emotions. And this is a brain that fuels itself with sugar. Run some sugar. So as long as you eating a lot of sugar, you're. You're going to be stuck in this brain fear. Of Feeding of not having enough of scarcity of fighting of needing to make yourself or someone else wrong and a predatory sexuality. So. Strong desire is is is in this mammalian brain. This is the brain that really long for intimacy, but cannot get. This matter how close you get, you cannot open yourself up to another person because you're going to be terrified of what they might
