Goldmine Record Store Recon: Record Breakers

Automatic TRANSCRIPT

I don't remember that that might have been our last review that Also can talk to you. This guy can easily you know hookup? Pa It could be a nice Brought to you could. Dj to good music. Once he reopens. I am GonNa get out there when he has a band. Because you're saying I'd like to hear how it sounds sounds really good music. I mean I'm sure you can't go in there and play like the WHO or you know man. I sometimes wonder you know being if you own a record store and you're in a city like Chicago having a small stage doesn't help you knowing that. So many big artists pass through the city. You know the the opportunity possibly get somebody who'd be I'm GonNa be in town anyway. Why don't I stop by Dude Instore And the great for I wish to record labels would bring those backs. A lot of stores. Budgets are different now. And you'll see a lot of in stores anymore. Let me ask you He said that he was disappointed. that obviously all record stores are disappointed that this pandemic fell on record store day and now record store day is. GonNa do do these drops the sheer three times. You said he's looking forward to that. is going to be some special those three. I believe they fall on. I forgot what the dates are but is going to do some special yeah. You don't think he lost. I don't want to speak for him. I don't remember him telling you going to have the bands there. I know he's going to have a special to slave for the dropped items and it's a blessing curse as he had a shared with me. Because the positive is that you're going to get these people now who are. GonNa come in three times instead of just one time and maybe their Orleans leader by other things also that you have in store and so now you're GonNa get them to do that three times versus just one time you know. A lot of stores live on the revenues from Store Day to carry them through the very lean months and and so they're not able to do that now. And so you know it's in trade offs. It'll be interesting to see what you know. What writer shortly does leaving past this because based on the bathroom stores when doing I love that you pointed that out because usually have a natural affinity to any record collector but one of my disagreements with some are they poo poo record store day and I don't think they're seeing the big picture that it's really really helping the record stores on. That's what it's all about so stop complaining about you know high prices or this being a cash grab. It's helped the record stores and I know. It's kind of a bummer. When Ebay people going Bain Spin you know? Turn the album's make them expensive. But you know you don't have to buy them on Ebay where I've been discouraged when I seen in a lot of a couple of stores will though pull some inventory. And then they'll put up on ebay themselves later on and a much higher rate than what the what we saw for in the store. But you don't if if. I bought it for fifteen and I sell it for twenty once leads my store. Do I really care if you can sell it for forty. That's that's not my concern. My concern was getting it out of my stored making a decent margin initially. Yeah I agree. They gotta they gotTa look at the Big Picture and I even have talked to reckon. Storeowner said they don't like record store day which blows my mind but whatever. There was one record store that I talked to in Boston a couple of years ago where he flat out said. He refuses to participate Aging Charles. He said his regulars were getting upset. That you know all these people coming in and didn't care about all the other sauce direction. You WanNa go that some missing the big picture anyway looking forward to these. Rsd drops September. October November. In on it you gotta remember. There's black Friday as well. Remember my bank account. It'll be it'll be a little healthier too because I can spread out the pain. She wants instead on all ones. Yeah you don't have to save up try so anyway Also he he also hangs up artwork from Chicago. Artists like painters So you can see some fine art correct. Yeah you know. It's interesting because he doesn't count the store. While these the gallery walls which shows the level of quality. The store is just semantics. When you call something a gallery it's GonNa to have a slightly higher level of in. Does I mean this story? He's gone all out. It's it's one of those stories that you would wanNA hang out in In just sit around and talk and listen to music and so it had a very warm feeling to the are. We're Gansu it. And he does. He have local Chicago musical artists as well. You said that prices are pretty decent right Tom. I did not find us copy of rumors. I did signed a elizer. Stir corrupt I did find original anti Nowhere League first pressing that get paid like trauma fourteen hour for I was really impressed with it and So yeah his word. I was very happy with them. Which leads me to another question. You said that when he bought the store They're the guy was the the record the skewering. The club that it was that was underneath was mostly punk alternative. Making me think was the inventory. Mostly punk alternative. Did they find inventory that was leaning towards those Genres Magin? They did because that was probably the type of person who was coming to the store or to the bar but I will no way back in the days when it was out in the suburbs. This sort terry reasoning. It could it's not the most. Nah well as long as he is not listening. I guess we by some light show tapings. Does it ever advise? They can't they can't Kids the Fan for being a fan. You know you see jess collection of live shows. I ever seen in my life unless Neil Young's gonNA tackle you gotta video of him trying to yell at the ports store clerk having please but anyway we love you mail but what the hell anyway. Yeah I mean I don't know if you check the prices online to After go and see if they're decent I'm sure they are if the regular of stories but you could go to. Www record breakers C. H. I Dot Com C. H. I. Obviously for Chicago. What was around there? What was around the neighborhood? They're actually uneven kind of cleaning off in and I talked about that because he was writing for Cohen. Hit The neighborhood where it was really in the businesses in the neighborhood. Were really putting a lot of money into everything to kind of really make data Troy SFANTU KINDA. Hang out ago from Everything's Sam still right now. So anxious to see made iphone. I enjoyed the area. I wasn't the least incerned party right in front in which sometimes to be difficult in in a major city I to me. It had everything I needed to to be. A really good store is a far furlan second location when it was above a club. It's not near there any worker. All right cool while people should check this out online help record breakers help your local record stores. I know I'm going to do some purchases This might try to do every month Usually I don't buy online go to the store directly but I'm going to start buying online. I know you're doing that as well. Dr Disc Right. We'll see you next time. What's up next time? So we're again. We're GONNA talk about mad city music in Madison Wisconsin. Okay right well. We'll see that. Okay thanks to this okay listeners. Thanks for listening into the record store. Recon episode this is Pat Prints editor goal. My magazine don't forget to go to Gold Mine.
