Listen: United States, Jake Tapper And President Trump discussed on Hugh Hewitt
"What I hope we can chance to talk about today. All right. Let me let me turn to that question. And then I'll come back to a couple of others that I have the international criminal court today. Said that they will not investigate the US for allegations of alleged war crimes and Afghantistan. And the St. international said this was a quote craven capitulation to Washington's bullying and threats and an abandonment of the victims. Why do you disagree with Amnesty International? If somebody committed a war crime, why should they not be held responsible? I should note that this isn't just about Americans. It's also about Afghans as well. That's exactly right, Jake. It's about a much broader people. Let's be let's be very clear that with respect to America in particular. We'd inside the treaty for the ICC has no six and under our over our people spent trying to exert it. You know, this Jake as well as I do when Americans misbehave, whether it's our military intelligence office. We have a robust democratic process that holds them accountable. You've seen as do that for those that misbehaved. There is no way any for the icy to intervene. Frankly, this was this would have been a political effort to try and take on the people who were acting on behalf of the United States in ways that were completely consistent with our laws and try and hold them accountable ways. Completely inappropriate. I am very pleased that the icy made this decision today. It's the right one know that Americans are found to have done things that are unlawful or gets the laws of war. The US system will always hold them accountable. But the icy is not the right place to do it. We didn't. Sign up for that. And they had no authority over these people. I'm glad that they recognize that. And it's important for people understand the international criminal court on Friday rejected the move by one of its politicized. Prosecutors to try and charge Americans at work wind. We are not a party that treaty. We refused to surrender jurisdiction over our soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines, coast guardsmen, not gonna do it wouldn't be prudent. The icy she has a limited role in my view to do things like go after the dictator of Sudan who was overthrown last week. Not to invent another forum for anti American anti Israeli sentiment to rage. Among the hard left on the international scene. Can you play cut number sixteen for me? Please cut number sixteen. Where did we same cut? I got it mixed up. Let's then go. They started talking about Latin America cut number thirteen. Now, number fourteen. I think that President Trump's decision makes perfect sense. We're going to get this, right? Jake. We're going to stop spending hundreds of millions of dollars of US taxpayer money's and ending up with the same result. We've ended up for for for too long. I think I think the data that he described proves this point it describes that what we were doing simply didn't work. Well, the Dan is I saw you know, the old saw right? Yeah. What you're doing doesn't work. You out. You think you ought to think about another path forward you'd agree with that? What you j I would. But from what I got from customs and border patrol folks border protection, folks. Using State Department data was money went to El Salvador homicides, went down by fifty percents and fewer migrants were coming from Salvador. No, I take your point that not all the governments of the northern triangle countries are doing everything you want them to do. But it seems to me just based on your agency's data that you giving money to also alva- door was helping to reduce violence in that country and helping to reduce migrants coming from El Salvador to the United States. Take the American taxpayers have been enormously generous to each of those three countries for an awfully long time. We're prepared to continue to do that. But we've got to see things change. We've got to see reality real outcomes on the ground check. When we see that. I promise you Americans will continue to be will continue to make sense with how we spend our dollars. And we will get good outcomes. It's not it's not enough to spend money and have wishful thinking, President Trump understands that we need to see actual change actual good outcomes. When we see those when we see those nations engaged in activities that were deuce the outflow of migration from their nations. The American people will continue to be incredibly generous. They always have been. The secretary of state was making the argument upping, a which is always a reaction to the left doesn't necessarily do anything to stop the exodus towards the American border. And that President Trump has threatened to cut off aid to Nicaragua, and L Salvador and quantum Allah because they don't do enough in their own countries to stop this. And there are some metrics that they're going to measure and the secretary of state went further with Jake tapper about the president's use of every available means to stop the border crisis. Cut number fifteen. Been lots of conversations on the enormous crisis at our border. And I've watched this President Try to use every tool in our tool kit. We've done everything that we can't we stayed within the law. We need congress to make changes to that. So that we can stop this humanitarian and security crisis and ever meeting. I've been in has been very focused on that. It's a crisis. It's no one can deny. It's a crisis. It's a real crisis. And we have to have people take it seriously. What is not a crisis is the arrival of the Muller report. I mean DC is very fixed on this. I will read it with great interest. I don't think the public cares beyond the conclusion. There was no collusion. And no cover-up. Chris Christie was on this week with George Stephanopoulos along with Rahm Emanuel yesterday and get into it with both of them cut number twelve. No. It wasn't counterintelligence investigation was approved by the courts. Those by this was approved by the courts here. No, no, no. Let me see the having sat through national security briefings having sat through in the situation room. This was a loaded term used for loaded ex an impact, and this is not what that was explained. This is all the proof by the courts by the supreme court makes that appointment and what they're going to rue the day is about what I would do is Democrats constantly in. This town has got to be we're just looking at and see where the facts take us. I think the bigger worry for the White House isn't report it's going to be what's going on in New York. Legal spying, by the way, there's legal spying illegal by the attorney general that make any opinion on that tour on whether"
