Senate rejects witnesses in Trump impeachment trial, clearing way for acquittal

Closing arguments are expected to get under way today in the Senate impeachment trial of president trump as NPR's Bobby Allen reports it comes just days after Republicans defeated a measure sought by Democrats to allow new witnesses and evidence since Democrats would need to pick up twenty Republican votes in order to convict and remove the president trump's acquittal is widely anticipated the Senate has scheduled a formal vote on the articles of impeachment for Wednesday afternoon meanwhile Democrats say the impeachment inquiry is still open in the house and have hinted that issuing a subpoena to hear from former national security adviser John ball and is still on the table NPR's Bobby Allen
