Listen: Seattle Mariners, Mariners And Marlins discussed on Effectively Wild: A FanGraphs Baseball Podcast
"Far less fun than that. Sure. We are these Seattle Mariners who we don't have shocked by it for very long, because the headline is probably pretty obvious to people. But as I was watching the Seattle Mariners last night, because they were, you know, as they often are by the end of it. They were the last game on and they were not winning. They weren't winning but not surprising. This is something I can move on from much more quickly than you. Thankfully, it's less devastating to me than it used to be. I, I was wondering, I was kind of I was kind of, wondering where their recent run of, you know, ineptitude kind of ranked for them because we remember they started like thirteen and to, like, hey, should we talk about these Mariners? And we both said, yeah, but, like we shouldn't get excited and we were right in right, the Mariners played twenty seven games in the month of may excluding today, where they have not yet played. And I was curious what the stretch of games that they have played as to how it stacks up versus what they have done historically a franchise because they have won six of those seven games. They have won six of the seven games. They have scored one hundred ten runs and allowed a hundred eighty two. In the month of may, just to put that in perspective for people, you know, the Marlins are also a bad baseball team. And we expected them to about in their overall record is still worse on season, but they went eleven and fourteen and may they scored eighty seven runs kazaa offenses very poor but they only allowed one hundred nine. So I, I went to I went to the play index house like how, how, how does this stack up and you can kind of look at stretches of time for a team. And so I looked at I looked at the Mariners for for their whole franchise and wandered. Hey by like say losses in a month has it kinda stack up and there were some two thousand eleven teams that over a twenty seven game stretch had lost say twenty two games. And there are some nineteen eighty teams the last two games and some also some nineteen seventy nine teams lost twenty two a bunch of teams in the eighties. The nineteen eighty season the loss to a bunch of stretches, I should say that were like home to twenty three losses, but then right there. Right. Right. There are the twenty nineteen Mariners. This looks at this looks at a range of twenty seven days. So obviously get kinda bunched up month results in the same season."
