Listen: President George Herbert Walker Bush, Prescott Bush And President discussed on Howie Carr
"Singing at the the services for President George Herbert Walker Bush because it's the capitol building the official leaders of both houses of congress speaker Paul Ryan, yes, he's outgoing speaker. But he was there and Senator Mitch McConnell, the majority leader both spoke as did the president of the Senate that would be Mike Pence who spoke as well as he gave him remarkable speech Mike Pence when he spoke to the Knesset the Israeli parliament. But this again was the vice president at his best. There will be more at the formal funeral where I believe the president of the United States will speak that will be on Wednesday. As I understand it. I. I wanted to put something out there. I think this is all wonderful. It's not wonderful that anyone dies. But my God what a life. He had an and how blessed he was by his parents, his father Prescott Bush Senator Prescott push by the way was six five and a big towering guy. He was chosen by Dwight Eisenhower as one of the people he put on a list of people. He wanted to see his his successor. Yes. He had Richard Nixon analysts too. But Prescott Bush, Senator from Connecticut. You don't want be interesting things. Is the Prescott Bush got very involved in the United negro college fund. And so did George Herbert Walker Bush, even even when he was in prep school. He got very involved with with this effort to raise and he'll America. And and by the way, when he was in the congress of the United States. In his second term in congress of the United States and the house of representatives. He got an all sorts of trouble with some leaders in Texas because he voted yes. On the fair housing act. To make it illegal to discriminate in housing. Based upon race. He he was a remarkable fellow. And yes, the Americans with his ability act and the Clean Air Act. The Clean Air Act is one of the most successful pieces of environmental legislation ever and reasonable and conservative in the sense of conserving the environment. And I guess one of the reasons I get emotional about. About this funeral. Is because it shouldn't take the death of a great, man. To allow Americans to come together. This way. To see people. On every side politically standing together, and in tribute to something bigger than the politics of the moment. Politics at the moment can be very small. It can even be very degrading. Sometimes. But the business of public services is very large. And it's very great. And I know because he wrote about it. And in those remarkable tape recordings that he made it night, particularly during the Gulf war. This only came out with Jon Meacham book a couple of years ago. President Bush talked into a tape recorder. And it's almost confessional. We don't have anything like that. For many other president we had presidents who kept careful virus. But somehow the immediacy of after long and weary days commanding the country in wartime. Then speaking into the tape recorders. It's it's deeply moving. And some of the idea of American tradition. Of the. Heroic figures who were remembered in that capitol building. And the idea of of a succession of people President Trump is presiding in a place that was occupied by President Bush by President Reagan. By Dwight Eisenhower by John F. Kennedy. By Harry, Truman and old artillery officer in World War One. Franklin Roosevelt by Calvin Coolidge. Theodore roosevelt. Goodman goodman.."
