Federal prosecutors in New York are requesting a substantial prison term for president. Trump's former personal lawyer Michael Cohen is NPR's hammer. Keith explains documents filed today give a better sense of Cohen's cooperation with the Russia investigation. Cohen pleaded guilty to financial crimes campaign finance violations in lying to congress and has been talking to prosecutors in the southern district of New York as well as the special counsel's office, but he isn't considered a cooperating witness because prosecutors say he hasn't fully cooperated. Prosecutors argue he quote knowingly sought to undermine core institutions of our democracy, and that his motivation wasn't naievety or misplaced loyalty, but personal gain.
