Listen: President Trump, President And James Mattis discussed on Todd Schnitt
"Networks carry the president? There was some reports earlier today that at least to the networks were kind of balking at handing over the prime time coverage, and I it's not unprecedented has happened in the past. In fact, I dug up a story about networks not carrying one of Obama's immigration reform speeches back in twenty fourteen. But I would try to dissuade the president I would try to talk President Trump out of declaring a national emergency. Because of the government shutdown and the border issue. Listen, I again, I support the wall. The wall. I think is a crucial part of a comprehensive border security plan. You know, where I stand on this. But I don't think it rises to the level of national emergency. When in fact, they presidential. Declaration of a national emergency has a pretty serious deal. And I don't wanna see politics played all I agree with Trump on. The need for the wall in at least hundreds and hundreds of miles to fortify our border, replace a scalable decrepit busted, fencing needs to be done. But I just would recommend. I would with all my might try to persuade the president not to declare it an actual national emergency now regarding the shot. So the question is Willie. Do it tomorrow Willie actually declare national emergency. I'm hoping that he doesn't. And I'm hoping that he would listen to some staffers and aides and advisers that I think would probably suggest that he not. Yeah. Hey is James Mattis coming back? Is is mad dog James Mattis now coming so man is essentially resigned over Trump's move to yank our troops out of Syria. Like, boom, I quick. And now the stories changed like two or three times while I was on vacation. And now the lens from John Bolton national security adviser is that I mean, there seems to be the case you that we were gonna pull the troops out. I mean, this has gone through like three or four generations. Now from Trump saying they're out of there. Now with plenty of time polling about right now to then all it'll be months, and now I mean, there's some indication that we might not even pull our troops out of Syria. So the question is since James mad dog Mattis allegedly resigned over his disagreement with Trump the yanked troops out like that like whammo. So since the troops is it looks like they're state from. Opet or maybe a definitely is mad dog Mattis coming back now. Obviously, I'm being a little facetious here now on the government shutdown. We are on day seventeen. It is the second longest government shutdown in the history of these here. United States of America. I'm not seeing end in sight. Although if you believe the Wall Street Journal report that Trump's looking for a way and a recommendation from his aides on how to get out of this without Trump looking weak. This is not a second longest the longest was back in nineteen seventy and if nothing changes here. Well, then this one will be on on track to actually take the top spot in the rankings. Now. Is the Trump White House? Are are they beginning to blink? Are they starting to blink here? Because really nobody had blinked up until this point. You know, President Trump is calling for a steel barrier instead of a wall again that doesn't bother me at all. I don't care as long as it's a veritable barricade to prevent people by the thousands and thousands from coming into this country, either scaling or peeling apart some of the the fencing material to get in or digging Nathan and a little little ditch underneath. I don't care how it's done. And again, I I'm said on numerous occasions. I went off on his earlier don't get hung up on. All Trump is not gonna get us concrete wall. Who the hell cares if it's concrete or if it's big toll steel slats bet you can't climb over. I don't care. I don't care what the the actual physical barricade is as long as we have a physical barricade. So I don't care about the the evolution. And trying to say Trump's target is moving to come on. That's that's a that's a bogus argument. Go barking up that wall. So democrats. Are they signaling a little bit of willingness for some additional they call it fencing. Are there some small rays of light or some cracks that are developing on both sides? I think the answer's yes. But at this point, I don't see enough to cause Trump or the Democrats the throw in the towel. Now on the Republican side, you have five Republican House members, they voted with Democrats last week to move legislation to reopen the government that go anywhere, of course. Not because in the Senate, Mitch McConnell. He's not going to schedule a vote on a Bill that the president is not gonna science not going to happen. And since then you had you know, McConnell has buried Pelosi's bills. You have Republican senators they've actually abandoned McConnell and the president five unless is five Republican senators five Republicans who want the remaining unfunded departments of the federal government to get their appropriations while the fight over the border wall funding does continue, you know. I it was just Susan Collins of Maine yet Cory Gardner of Colorado. That's all predictable. They're to have some tough for reelection fights coming up in a couple of years in twenty in. I've chased of. It's twenty nine thousand already in two thousand twenty you'd have a couple of you know, tough reelection bids so Gardner and Colorado, Susan Collins may but since then you had Thom Tillis of North Carolina. You had Lamar Alexander of Tennessee. Pat roberts. Not seven hundred club, Pat Robertson, but just Pat Roberts. He's of Kansas. They've joined the chorus. Robertson. Allen zander. They both announced that they're not seeking reelection. Incidentally. Let's not listen. I it's not the not opposed to beefing up border security, even a wall. They don't want the rest of the federal government and federal programs and services held hostage. In the meantime. You had those weekend meetings that apparently went nowhere. Neither chamber of congress is even session today. Talks over the weekend involving the congressional staffers led by vice president Pence those then go anywhere. Trump wants five point seven billion dollars for the wall. I've got the break down here on a take xactly. What he's looking for. So this is the White House actually putting out numbers and exactly what they want. So this is what Trump and the White House's demand. They want five point seven billion for now this as a steel barrier. On the southern border. They one eight hundred million for what they call urgent humanitarian. Needs. They want seven hundred ninety eight million. For more beds. In detention facilities for illegals that are being detained. That sounds like a very expensive bets. Give to some discount furniture place and get a better deal on IT or something. That. And."
