For Bryce Harper. And they still were considering going after both. But after a five hour meeting with Bryce Harper. They think that they're going to be able to walk down the right fielder, and in theory that takes them out of the running even though they're going to still try, but White Sox could be seem like they are the. Favorite for Manny Machado, and that would be monumental for a ton of reasons. He's an awesome player. He's a polarizing player they signed his brother-in-law yonder Alonzo and one of his best friends in John J so it would be a truly unconventional recruiting pitch for a professional sport signing. He also. Would have a legitimate claim to being underpaid. Like, if that's actually what they get him for eight years two hundred and fifty million bucks. If that's what Manny Machado signs with the White Sox for it would be a historic signing for the White Sox their previous largest contract ever is sixty eight million bucks to Jose Abreu. So you'd be talking about nearly two hundred million dollars more than the previous highest contract in franchise history. So on a local level, it would be a remarkable accomplishment and their front office and ownership group should be applauded locally and nationally. But. There's a really interesting story going on with wage suppression in baseball because all happening to baseball. Revenues is going up up and up TV up. Bam tech media up franchise value up. Everything's just going up. Yet last year's free agency, really weird. This year's free agency, really slow. If you think back to our pool signed his contract for what Miguel Cabrera signed his contract for those guys have contracts that run through their age forty season. Now, you could say it's just baseball teams smartening up. Everyone doesn't smart enough at the same time and. Fans like my team being smart. Okay. Cool. But they're not you want them to spend the money that they're making on the players and try to win baseball. It's got a little bit of a problem with too few teams trying to win and all that happens. It's not as they pay the money back to the fans, it's not like ticket prices. Go down ticket prices go up but owner's pocket more money because they spend a smaller percentage of their raising revenues on payroll, and they convince you that it's okay to not try to win and not trying to win for a period of time is smart for rebuilding. But then when it's time to win you damn well, better spend the money. So if they sign Manny Machado at twenty six years old to a two hundred and fifty million dollar deal and the last season of it is when he's thirty four years old. Honestly, that's a bargain. That's a hell of a story. I really really hope it happens. But that is a that is a fascinating fascinating development. And we could be living in a very weird world where? Somehow some way Manny Machado is underpaid at two hundred and fifty million which by all accounts, obviously, a lot of money, but speaking of a lot of money, I said before the break I wanted to get into
