Listen: NFL, Football And Seattle discussed on Reimer & Dakota
"So week fourteen in the NFL, we're going to bounce back there in a second and look at the intriguing games of the week fourteen and a quick wrap of last week. And what put us where we are. But bouncing ahead to college football for quick second here. And of course, getting you up to date on that army navy game not much scorn going on halfway point. Army put up a touchdown in the first quarter. And that was it so seven nothing that's the game. We're seeing in Philly. That's unfolding. It's just not much happening there. Right. So. And of course, the over under. It's always the under. When you ask yourself when you look at these teams, always the under at least in the past twelve games when the two have met, I'm curious to see what's going to come of the half time coaching conversations when they emerged from the locker room, and we'll see if the midshipmen can get something going on her army just pours it on a little bit more than that. But it is an interesting day one hundred nineteen times the two teams have met. Let's put it this way. Will Greer was another big quick story here? The fact that he's not gonna play for west Virginia's a quarterback. They went from six and a half point favorites against Sarah Hughes to two and a half after the news, some places one and a half. So watch that line is that kind of moves Oklahoma's quarterback Tyler Murray the Heisman betting hopeful as to what has been rolled. Although he's been rolling all season long. I think the order is definitely Cuyler to and Dwayne Haskins after that. But who takes home the big juicy hardware, which would be the Heisman Trophy huge honors for whoever gets the chance to do it. It's always actually fun to watch. You know, they've done this for eighty four years. And it's the first time that all three top vote-getters are quarterbacks usually get that running back thrown in there. But all quarterbacks how about that. I think that's pretty interesting. I was looking back at the long list of Heisman winners, I'm thinking where are they? Now. Boj Jackson Bono's, everything invoke can do everything. Remember that nineteen eighty five gets the Heisman Trophy. I really liked. Bo Jackson when I got into sports one of the coolest moments for me was getting a chance to interview though, and talk to them about all the different sports that he was involved in. And he was kind of a wicked dry sense of humor. Let's put it that way. And OSU the fact that Ohio State made huge news not just in the beginning of the season and not because urban Meyer was suspended for three games because of that Zac Smith debacle. But instead it's because urban Meyer who makes the news again is stepping away from the team. Here's what he said about leaving Buckeye nation. I'm sure it will have it really thought that through that was a disappointing time. Obviously, I think today, and this is about to celebrate at a new football coach, this is about a very strong program at a group of players went back to back championships. So, you know, the legacy is really can control so much, and I can lie to you and say that's not important to me. That's really any human being that's important to people will have their opinions and just do the best to do things the right way. All right. Of course Meyer talking about his legacy. And so for the second time in eight years, he's quit coaching. He says his body. Can't take the stress that he applied to it. He's going to be there for the Rose Bowl. But then he's out after Washington and Ohio State tangle in the Rose Bowl. He says he is done Ryan day takes over the reins of the team. What is that like two and a hurt a team like the buckeyes as the head coach every coach whoever put a whistle around their neck strives to be the head coach at the Ohio State University. I fully understand the challenges that await for me and being on the same. Paul Brown, haze. Earl Bruce, John Cooper, Jim tressel in urban Meyer. It's extremely humbling. But I'm prepared and ready for the task. All right, prepared and ready. So he is the guy week fourteen in the NFL. We can't talk enough about this because things are winding down my friends. We have a handful of games left four games to be exact. But I've talked a lot about it. And be mentioned again. Philly at Dallas is huge four twenty five eastern it kicks. What is the eagle? What are the eagles? Gonna do. The eagles wide receiving corps against the Cowboys secondary. That's going to be something to watch for sure. The passing game has been up and down all season long. There's no question about that. Doug Peterson the head coach who won last year for Philadelphia their first Super Bowl ever. Feels like the offense is starting to figure things out better late than never with the back to back wins over think way inferior teams, but you know, get golden Tate got involved. I don't know if he's involved he had seven catches for. For eighty five yards. And if he's officiant who knows it seems unlikely, but it's not impossible. This'll be a great game against these two teams the Cowboys if they can run the football, which they do with Ezekiel Elliott who is second in the NFL in rushing yards and yards from scrimmage. So even if they have a nine or an eight man front go up against they've done that before he's gonna get plenty of touches, no doubt about that. And then of course, Amari Cooper, I think we'll get his to the wide receiver. But I think this game is going to be a close game another game. That's a fun game to to look at is the Indianapolis at Houston game. And why do I look at that? Well, here's the thing. The colts trying to stay in playoff contention. That's what they're trying to do right now. So this is a team that has a long history of being in the playoffs. Now, they're trying to get. Into a position where they can be in the playoffs. So Andrew luck needs time to operate in the pocket if he gets that that may help because you look at JJ watt and JV and cloudy and what they can do their to man wrecking crew. A he if he can make some big plays in that passing game against the Texans. Then maybe the colts finished, much, more, balanced and win this. It's either close game, but Houston has momentum. They've got the home crowd colts have a couple of injuries that are nasty that they've got to deal with the Texans will pressure luck as much pressure as they can put on him. And how does that secondary hold up? If the secondary holds up it makes a very very big big big big big difference. Without a doubt another team to watch teams to watch is Minnesota at Seattle. You look at the Vikings and Kurt cousins. And. The passing offense if they get that passing offense working, and they can and they have but it's cooled off a bit. If they get that connection going the Vikings may sneak out with that victory. They so desperately seek if they don't especially because of where they are this season when you look at the Seahawks. It's going to be all about, hey, how do they handle Stefan? Digs feeling how do they handle Adam Zealand? What do they do there? And are they going to give up a big plays or not like they have before? Seattle secondary. What happens there is very very big the Seahawks half to keep Russell Wilson protected. He is one of the cleanest best passers when he is protected. If he's not forget about it. So the Vikings have has have a solid defense. But can they make enough big plays to force turnovers sack or whatever to knock out the Seahawks team momentum that they have. And then of course, it's in Seattle that makes it a little bit of a difference to their and to me the the best game. And I've said this now a couple of times is the Sunday night game eight twenty a kicks eastern, and you look at that game and look at the factors there Khalil Mack. Who's been incredible for the bears MAC? Getting him as a toss off from Oakland. I think was so incredibly rewarding to the bears and will continue to pay off for them. But has paid off are ready. The when you look at these two teams and you look at the bears they have to they have to hold the Rams offense down as much as they can in the red zone. Right. If you get to a shootout, if you get any kind of a shootout, I think it's dangerous because Jared Goff will be incredibly dangerous, and we don't know if Mitch Trubisky is going to be in there or not if you're talking about what they do when they get inside the twenty not even at sixty percent. So if the bears can limit that field position, and the Rams are stuck and they're not getting their that'll make a big difference. But that Rams offense is incredible. If you get Todd Gurley going, and you and Jared Goff. Wow. It's the results are could be staggering. I can't imagine that the bears defense doesn't limit them though. But this game may end up being the best game on the map for the week that Sunday night game. And there's so many other elements to it without question. Are we come back at a dive back into the army navy game? And some other odds and ends as we shake the sports tree, gay Delaney, NBC sports radio NBC, sports."
