Equifax will pay up to $700 million in data breach settlement

Hour consumer credit reporting agency Equifax has agreed to pay up to seven hundred million dollars in what is being called the largest data breach settlement in history WWJ newsradio nine fifties John Hewitt has the story the settlement with the Federal Trade Commission centers on a twenty seventeen data breach of Equifax that exposed to the social security numbers and other private information of nearly one hundred fifty million people essentially half of the US population if approved the settlement will include up to four twenty five million dollars in consumer restitution and one hundred seventy five million that will go directly to states Michigan share is four point six million dollars an investigation found that despite knowing about a critical vulnerability in its software Equifax failed to fully patch it systems to protect consumer data which was exposed for seventy six
