Welcome to let's talk dementia. Here's your host bestselling author Carol. Hi Caregivers welcome to. Let's talk dementia. In Carol how you're hosting always. I'm glad that we are together today. Well we're in another day of this quarantine business are you bored. I know that you're busy. Caregiving but also recognized. Not being able to do some of the things that you normally do with your loved. One the person you're caregiving for my just called you to be a little bit bored. I know potentially that. Well I am. I read to my malls or fallout right. Get some good news. Yesterday I wanted to share with you One of the sponsors for this podcast in video series is the National Association of Veterans In Families. And you can find them at. Www DOT in a v F dot Org. Now ask our tag at the end of the show. Says they are there to help you. Get benefits for the veteran spouse veteran in both the biggest benefit in this journey of dementia caregiving giving that veterans and their families need to get into dough about so they can get is called aid and attendance done several shows about eight and but just off the top. It is money available for the veteran and the spouse of the weather veteran and or actually who has a physical need for the care directly related to their person. They had honorable discharge from a branch of the service and they served at least one day during a time of war now they may have been pushing a pencil that whole time but they were serving in active As inactive duty while the war was going on they had to use this money received from eight and attendance to pay for in home care or forces to living well just yesterday learned. And I'm excited about the US. There is a new benefit that is even less known about that is called veteran. Directed Hung Community based services program. Now do that. One Again. Veteran directed home community based service program. Now what this program does and get my notes here in front of me because I want to say for you properly as I was learning it from Mister Joe at National Association of Veterans and families. Yesterday I made some notes are making noises here in the background It is based on the level of care. The veteran needs now. It is only for. The veteran is not for the spouse. Unfortunately you have to be enrolled in. Va Services on. You have to get evaluated by a doctor in the V. The veteran a we'll beat with the social worker. Who HAS I have understood? The past always does come to the veteran and they can receive up to twenty one hundred dollars a month. Get this for the spouse to take care of that person. I don't know if it can be someone besides the spouse but I imagine there's there's got to be some kind of provision for folks that one never had a spouse or to. The spouses passed in on some other family members. Taking care of a of them but in other words it's for care inside the home without going to an assisted living or hiring accompanied to come into the home. It pays the family to help with those expenses. So veteran directed in their title veteran director. I'm supposing as the veteran decides where the money would go home. Community veteran directed home community the home community being keeping the services inside the home without blowing outside the home into an assisted living or hiring a licensed in homecare company. Now I think that's absolutely wonderful. Here's the catch. It's not available in all fifty states right now I do not know why You would think that if it's A. VA program which is a national program that it's been released that every state would have to be Online with it and I'm sure eventually that is true There are a lot of states that it's in development but currently right now has not been approved but I wanted to just quickly go over the list of the twenty eight states that do have this program available if you are then.
