Listen: Soldier Field Soldier Field, Steelers, Mike Tomlin discussed on Mike Drop
"We were actually at the game and Chicago and Sam, she's from Chicago, her dad's a police officer out there and some of the guys said season tickets they knew us big Steeler fan. I even know they were bears fans by us to the game. And we go to grab breakfast before the game. We're sitting in a diner across from Soldier Field and somebody saves. Hey did you hear the Steelers? They're going to stay in the locker room during the national anthem. And it was like, yeah. Right. You know, I thought he my Steeler gear on. And like, yeah, he's just making a joke. So, so then I hear another person say it, so I get on my phone in, obviously. It's trending. And I'm like you gotta be kidding me. You gotta be kidding me. And the first person, I think is out, you know, Villanueva, and we've actually got to meet him and hang out with him a few times, and really great dude, along with a lot of the other Steelers and I was just thinking my mind like this has got to be just such a terrible situation for him. If you've got guys in there that one take a knee or not come out, and then you know where's that going to put him at? Yeah. And once we got to the stadium, it became bigger than a game even like it became bigger than a game. Everyone fatter backs on the Steelers when they did come out everyone. I mean it was it was pretty embarrassing being Steeler fan sitting in that stadium is Soldier Field Soldier Field. All places and. I mean it was great to see Al come out of the tunnel. Like that was great that it was great. The captain's like he let him know like guys, I have to go out there, and I have to do this, and they were cool with them doing that. So I thought that was good. I just think how they handled it definitely how the Steelers handled obviously it was such a big deal and big controversies. I mean, it could have been handled better some guys wanted to take a stand for what they believed in other guys wanted to take a stand for what they believed in and it obviously put Al and a really bad situation. In fact, that at first people were like, that's the greatest thing ever. You know, he was trending is jersey was number one jersey. And then a couple days later, he doesn't wanna feel like he's making his teammates, look bad as you would feel like in the teams. So he comes out with an apology. And a lot of people were then trashing him. Oh, you never apologize for standing, you know. And I think it was just a tough situation for him in the fact that he was the guy who was cut many times, and his NFL career was basically over and Mike Tomlin had seen him across the field when he was with the eagles at a preseason game and he was saluting during the national anthem. And that's the he barely played in a game. And Mike Tomlin said, why is that guy saluting and give me a little background on guy? Plus, he's taller. And every player on the field fucking seven he is. So big ranger g. He is joke around it because I met a couple of guys that were in the Rangers in their my size. You know, five six. Are you? Man, you really didn't wanna grab out there and down man drill. Fit in the humvee throw up mature it. He's not right. A minute. Fucking little birdies. Yeah. That whole situation pissed me off. And I had the patriots center David Andrews on earlier or last year not quite a year ago, I guess, and, and we talked a little bit about it, and it is just a shitty situation, I grew up being a huge football fan and, and played up until high school when I was to fuck and small to, to make a difference or even not get fucking murdered ended up just swimming all through high school. But I've always been a fan of the sport.."
