Listen: Todd Gurley, New England Patriots, Rams discussed on NFL Sunday
"Any things on the table today as we get ready for the Super Bowl in terms of the game itself. You ought to talk about the Rams you want to talk about the patriots. You want to talk about is this rob gronkowski's last game. What does it mean for Brady? What does it mean for golf girly McVay any of that? Certainly welcome to do. So number what eight hundred seventy seven seventy nine zero seven. You can tweet at me as well. I am at its Brian Barrett on Twitter. Okay. I mentioned Todd Gurley. Now Todd Gurley in that game against the saints four rushes for ten yards. This is the guy that got the richest contract in the history of the running back position. Okay. He also dropped passes in that game. One of which turned out to be an interception that the saints took over and you looked at the Cowboys game. Yeah. He played. Well, they're hundred sixteen yards on the ground. But you go back to the past four games. He's played in and some of this. Remember he was deal with the issue. So if I'm a ramps fan, I'm hoping we'll hold on. Well, let's just say it's the knee issue. Because of it's not the issue. Then we got a serious issue at Todd Gurley in big games. But remember go back to the eagles game a couple of weeks ago twelve rushes for forty eight yards against the bears just eleven rushes for twenty eight yards. So three of the past four games for Todd Gurley. He has been ineffective now. Maybe some of that you Chuck that up to okay? This is a situation where he's dealing with an injury. But if we're going to believe Todd Gurley at his word he said a couple of weeks ago against the saints. He was just sorry meeting. He didn't play well whatsoever. And he just did not have his best game. And clearly he almost blew the Rams and opportunity when that suppo because. Super Bowl the NFC championship game. Because really if you think about it. If the Rams lose that game to the saints, and they should have because of the blood call at the end of that game. But if they had lost that game hypothetically who is everybody pointing the finger at it's not it's not Jared Goff. Because Goff was great in the second half. We're pointing the finger at a river. The Rams defense was good in that game. We're pointing the finger rated Todd Gurley. Like, listen, we gave you all this money at the running back position and were expected to get the prime years of your career. And this is what you do you cost us a turnover with the interception that fell off your hands and your an for ten yards. We had to take C J Anderson. Okay. C J Anderson a guy that wasn't on a team had been cut by what teams this year prior to this. He's fat. He's overweight. And he's on the field over you. We took in the first round of paid all this money to. Okay. So Todd Gurley would have been the guy that everybody was pointing at from the Rams perspective. Say hey Todd kinda need you to show up in the most important game of the season. And you didn't. So Todd Gurley gets a mulligan. Nobody is ever going to remember this. If Todd Gurley plays well today, nobody. He's ever going to remember the Todd Gurley was horrible in the saints game. Because that's just how these things work themselves up because Todd Gurley will be a Super Bowl champ tog early will have won this game. So I just look at Todd Gurley though because in this game in particular, and I know it's not going to sound like the most unbelievable take the world, but they need girly to be exceptional in this game as well, not just Jared Goff. Because here's the thing. If fat C J Anderson is on the field. Bill has already told us defense. We guarantee it Bill bell. Jack is already told us defense. Hey, guys, if the fat guys on the field if thirty five on the field, I believe that says numbers at thirty five or thirty six C, J Anderson. Thirty five thirty five. Okay. Whatever number is thirty five. If he's on the field. He's not catching the ball out of the backfield. So this play action pass game that the Rams love to us. Don't worry about it. Don't worry about the play action game whatsoever. Because C J Anderson when he goes out of the backfield, he's not catching the ball. Okay. Todd gurley. You have to wonder about that. Because Todd Gurley this season. He averaged about forty receiving yards per game. He had a game. We're at eight hundred receiving yards. He had a game red seventy six receiving yards. So you need Todd Gurley. If you're the Rams unique Todd Gurley to be absolutely exceptional in this game. And you need Todd Gurley to be a factor. I don't understand how a player doesn't show up to the NFC championship game. I hope for the sake of Todd Gurley that this was a situation where Todd Gurley just was dealing with health issues. I hope that was the situation because what I saw was the highest paid running back in the NFL play horribly in that game you need tug early to show up. If you're the ribs. All right, one eight hundred seven seven seven two nine zero seven the number get to Richard in. In West Virginia. Richard what's going on? One of the things I was thinking about the fifty nation. You're listening to and the New England Patriots. Certain things in Poland. What's that? What's that that they have in common? Well, what they heaven called this. But I think you might be one of them. Of a regular time slot, then they move you to take the morning. I'm not sure what you're doing. Now. Just like say the New England Patriots. So put play related twenty eight. Then they take him out. Put some Yeltsin you never know from week to week. Wait, wait. Day to day. You never know they go on and producers are just like. Conjunction with a New England Patriots. You never know what you're going to get when you're listening on Espy nation. But as far as you were talking about the Darren golf. Yeah. One thing. It's a good thing name Jared. The goals of I I they rejected really gold. Appreciate the call, Richard. You can grab his line. If you wanted a one eight hundred seven seven seven two nine zero seven, hey, I missed that. What he say if his name was what we'd have trouble. Oh, jeez. Oh god. Unbelievable. How about the point about our SP is compared to the New England Patriots topsy? I gotta tell you as an employee of espionage in radio as are you? If we're getting compared to the New England Patriots. I think that's a good thing. Right. The only way I could take that point right? All right. Yeah. I certainly would take it as a compliment if we're getting compared to the New England Patriots. But yeah, I be the patriots to Richard's point about the patriots and replacing guys and whatnot. They basically dust out guys that you wouldn't expect to be factors in games like a couple of weeks ago. You look the Kansas City game and coming off the chargers game, we know that Sony Michelle was exceptional Sony. Michelle, by the way is leading the NFL in the playoffs in rushing yards. And then you look at James white who's been one of the best pass catching receivers really in the history of the NFL. And I don't think that's hyperbolic. That's how good James white has been in terms of his postseason career. He could have easily been the MVP of the Super Bowl against the Atlanta. Falcons read what fourteen catches he had fifteen catches in another game this season. So the guy's exceptional catching the ball of the backfield. So you have those two running backs. Okay. Michelle's your runner and James white guy to the backfield. Then all of a sudden they dust off Rex Burkhead and Rex Burkhead scores. Two touchdowns in the game against the chiefs has the one in the fourth. Quarter. And then he has it touchdown in overtime. It's like, wait. I'm watching that game seven myself. Why is Rex Burkhead even in the game? So they find a way to hurt you with guys that you would not expect to hurt you in games we've seen this over the years remembered Jonas gray so many years ago where he played a game against the idiot. Apple as colts. It was in the two thousand fourteen season a year that the patriots would ultimately win the Super Bowl. He ran for over two hundred yards in that game. He was late to a team meeting, and he never really played for the patriots again, and they won the super. But that's just what the patriots do their game plan specific. So what they'll do is. They'll take care of any disadvantages. The Rams have against the patriots. That's what they do. They find out what your weaknesses, and then they keep scratching the scab. And until you prove that you can stop what the patriots have deemed as your weakness. The patriots. You're just gonna continue to do it and the patriots and one of the most unique teams in the NFL in that aspect is teams usually have systems, and we talk about it all the time where they're going to do certain things each and every week. The patriots are the opposite of what the. Majority of the NFL is the patriots a look at what you do. And they say, okay. This is going to be the game plan because against the chargers. It was like, okay, Sony, Michelle, let's do this. But another game, it might be like, okay, and they Seahawks Super Bowl, for example. You can't run the ball against that Seattle defense. Right. Because of all the guys they had in that defensive line body Wagner at the linebacker position. So what it Brady do Brady in that game in particular against Seattle? He threw the ball fifty times. And they just said, you know, what in the second half of that game. We're not running whatsoever. So what the patriots are going to do is. They're going to do whatever your weaknesses, whatever. Their best chance of way. It doesn't matter. What their system is their system is whatever you do poorly. We're going to continue to take advantage of it. And that's what has made the patriots. So great over these years. And that's why I don't understand now. Maybe it's just the majority of the teams in the NFL are dumb or the patriots. You're just more or more intelligent than everybody else. Because I look at the chargers and the chiefs how dumb could those teams be against the patriots you play zone coverage against Tom Brady. Gus Bradley with the chargers. Tom Brady knows that defense from when Gus Bradley was in Seattle. Okay. And then the same thing with the chiefs and Bob Sutton, who by the way has gotten fired you didn't show Brady any different looks throughout the game. He knew what the look was every time. Okay. Brady, we know in this postseason is up and sacked whatsoever. So either those teams the chiefs in the chargers are just incredibly dumb or the patriots are just so much smarter than everybody else in the league. I tend to think that the chargers and the chiefs in terms of their defensive game plans, they were just dumb. You can't just show Tom Brady the same book every single time out there and expect to win the football game. And that's kinda what worries me about Wade Phillips in this game. From Rams perspective. We know wait Phillips plays the same defense doesn't really try to confuse you. We talk about when he had that Rome with the Broncos. Remember he had to keep to leap great cornerback. At the time keeps leave on the Rams as well. Not the same guy. You had harass. You had von Miller, and you had all these guys me Jackson. It's not the same type of defensively as with the Rams that Denver defense was elite. They were so good that they."
