Remington Park, Bob Baffert, Gulfstream Park discussed on The Horse Racing Radio Network Podcast
Automatic TRANSCRIPT
Gets darker earlier than even normal. They move their post times up. So they've actually finished the card at aqueduct already the 9th and final race which was supposed to go, oh, I don't know about 5 minutes from now actually went about 8 minutes ago, so no aqueduct racing on the show today. As I mentioned, fairgrounds, Oak Lawn, Gulfstream park live, two big races this weekend around the country for two year olds, both worth points on The Kentucky Derby trail, assuming that the horses do not run with the medication Lasix, the springboard mile out at Remington park and the low south futurity for many, many years known as the Hollywood futurity out in Southern California. We're actually going to have Remington's track announcer Dale day on with us right at the start, I think, of our number two to talk about this year's springboard mile on the other stakes on tomorrow's Remington really a great card tomorrow night at Remington park and a couple of really good two year olds going to square off in the springboard mile. Phone lines are open if you'd like to call in and be part of the show 888-966-4776 is the number. That's triple 8 9 6 6 hr and also you can always email me directly Bobby at horse racing radio net that's BO BBY. I answer all of my emails good or bad and actually had several emails. You know what? I'm just going to do this right off the top because I don't want to get too into it. There were a lot of emails that have come in over the last few weeks. Regarding a certain track announcer that's just started at one of the tracks out east. It's not a track we cover regularly here on the network as they run early part of the weekend, not Thursdays, Fridays or on weekends, basically for the most part. I'm just going to say this. I agree with most of your emails as far as this, the ability of this announcer. I would be a little bit more upset with the person or people who made the decision to hire this person. Because it seems to me like they either don't care about their customers or don't care about their product. I think the best thing you can do instead of sitting there on Twitter and whatever you're doing all day, complaining about it is just don't bet it. The biggest middle finger you can give to something is to just completely refuse to give them your patronage and your money. And there are plenty of other options out there. And if you really don't like what's going on at this particular racetrack, don't bet it. There are plenty of other choices. That's all I'm going to really say about that. That's kind of the way I look at it. I mean, if it's, for instance, I mean, you've heard free. I've said this many, many years. I don't like turf sprints. The reason I don't like turf sprints is because I'm not very good at handicapping turf sprints. It's not like, you know, I just see a race and immediately start to throw up. Oh my God, it's a turf race that's less than a month now. That's not that. I'm just not very good at them. And so I just refused to better my skip right over them with the exception of when we need to talk about them for the weekend stakes preview presented by naira bets or handicap and handicapping them when it comes to breeders cup time. That's just my opinion. So but otherwise, I don't pay attention. It doesn't bother me that I'm not paying attention to them. And I would say the same to you as far as this, that there's something going on at a racetrack that you don't like or makes your ears bleed. Don't pay attention. Don't watch, don't bet there are plenty of other options. Okay, once again, live racing today from Gulfstream park, Oak Lawn park and fairgrounds, lots of other news to get into as well. Good stretch call to open up the show of the 2014 edition of the low south futurity formerly the Hollywood fertility, of course it was at Hollywood park for many, many years from 1981 until Hollywood park shuttered. So the final year, it was at Hollywood, was on that synthetic track. They had for a few years and 2013, then it moved to low sala and it's been there ever since Bob Baffert has won the race with Dortmund in 2014. He's actually won this race 13 times, which is just ludicrous. But the funny thing is if you think about it, this low south futurity, it's not quite the same as it was when it was over in Hollywood park. First of all, way back when, when it was at Hollywood park, back in the mid to late 80s, and even into the 90s, it was a grade one, $1 million race. So you would have bigger fields, obviously running for grade one status, and for a $1 million. Now it is a grade two $200,000 race. In fact, it was lowered from $300,000 last year down to $200,000 this year and it's been a great two for the last several years and basically for the last several years. It's been Bob Baffert with two or three runners and maybe two or three other horses in against him. It's never a big field. And this year is no different. It's just a field of 5, which kind of stinks. For those of us that are fans of the game, wish that we could get bigger fields for this race, but downgrade down purse and listen, it's just people don't want to run against two and three Bob Baffert horses, especially when most of the time he's got the best ones, but Dortmund was one of the ones who got the job done for Bob Baffert. In fact, he started a 7 year win streak for Bob Baffert trainees back in 2014, only stopped last year by Doug O'Neill's slow down Andy. I'm going to say go out on a limb and say Bob Baffert gets back to the winner's circle in the futurity at Los alamitos once again tomorrow. All right, let's get out for some live racing action. Today we're going to start at Gulfstream park, 9th and final race on their card today. About a minute away from post time looks like they're actually still on the turn warming up or on the back stretch and they've got to get to the 7 furlong point in the shoot. 7 furlongs on the fast main track 74° right now in hallandale beach mostly cloudy skies. They actually had some rain early on today and the fact that they took yesterday and the day before is races off the turf. I thought they'd probably take today's off, but nope, they left it on despite the fact that there was a little rain and somehow it's rated firm. So I have no idea how to handicap when they decide they want to run on the turf at Gulfstream park. This 9th and final race is a 12 5 claiming event. These are three year old Phillies or Phillies and mayors four and up that are non winners of three races lifetime going the 7 furlong distance scratch numbers one and two. Leaves us with a field of 7 going to post. Right now, number three, amazing trip is the one who's getting most of the play at the windows, 7 to two on the morning line, but 9 to 5 right now for the team of Jose Deangelo and Edgar ziya's Jose D'angelo's interesting. He's a South Florida based trainer, one of the trainers that stays in South Florida all year round and he's a high percentage trainer in South Florida. I always wonder how these trainers who were their year round are going to do when the quote unquote big name trainers come in.
