Listen: Baseball, Bo Jackson And Basketball discussed on Lance McAlister
"With all these great athletes were posing outdoors on a basketball court. But my all time paper, George Gervin iceman. I love that. Classic. Silver. Basketball worn out sitting on a throne of ice. And he has to basketball's at the arm rests one hand with the basketball, and he was just sitting there as cool as ice. Oh, and he added he had his legs crossed it. Just look the Ice Man cometh. Aw. That was just a great. I don't know of anybody who was a basketball. Hey, growing up a kid didn't have that quote. Right. Exactly. That is perfect. That is exactly what I'm looking for Raffi. I have a great weekend outta go. Right. Thank you. All. Yeah. He could finger roll I had that poster the supreme court post ride for dot about ID's pulled that up. I'm looking this supreme court. It's one two three four five six seven eight nine ten eleven twelve thirty forty fifty six seventeen different players. There's Paul Westphal. There's Marcus Johnson. Dennis johnson. All may have what that is a fantastic poster. I forgot all about that. What how 'bout to west union, and Tim you are on seven hundred wwl w rats is always a pleasure to talk to you. Thanks for calling. I have the swat team poster originally Rickey Dixon who the Bengals sign that year was going to be my favorite player. Oh he held out of camp. And what he did Louis. Phillips became my favorite player. I went to Bengal training camp. I got to take Louis Billups out for dinner that night had a fantastic time with him. And then later on I got to meet, David culture. I get to spend today with hey with our county fair just a fantastic person as well. Yes. All four of them. Got the sign for me. I don't know. I think my mom and dad had but Ricky Dixon was going to be my favorite player. But when he held out Billups became my favorite. And then the swat team poster was born that is excellent Tim. Thanks for the story. Enjoy your weekend. Thank you. I wonder how many of those are still I would love to have one. Office at home side. I just it's just the coolest. I'm looking. Speaking of cool. I just pulled up the Davis one just everything about that. Eric Davis poster is so Eric Davis. And so cool is the word because he is standing in in an office. The camera shot is kind of up in above. So it's kind of looking down. He's looking up to the camera. I mean, he is dressed in a suit a grey suit with a red tide red pocket. Silken a nice watch. It. He's wearing Nike shoes. The baseball shoes. The door. The private is office says e Davis forty four and on the desk is a gigantic magnum forty four. In the chamber. There's two baseball stuck in the chamber on the wall. There's three baseball bats hanging on Iraq with a hat and glove. Eric is standing there with one hand on the gun one hand holding a baseball at at its midsection. And the legs are kinda cross standing up the leagues are kind of crossed. Where you see the baseball shoe? It is Eric Davis was the enemy of cool. And that is just a cool. Poster argue the one that I had forgotten about. And I looked this up just doing some background tonight. That was part of my day. I was googling old posters. There is a an iky woods one. And I swear I don't remember this poster dirty, dancing, icky woods. And it's in the end zone. Having scored a touchdown. India starting the Iki shuffle. There's a referee behind him with arms raised and there's a shot of a group of fans in the end zones holding up signs. I love itchy. And everybody's going crazy, and it I mean, it looks. It's not a game shot. It's a staged shot. But I for the life me. I have no recollection of the dirty dancing. Icky woods poster. I don't know how. But but I don't then doing give me started on reds posters. They used to give away at riverfront stadium. I can I close my eyes and visualize all those ran the poses of all the players in those reading we go next though debut or on seven hundred wwl w you doing Lance. I'm excellent. What do you have for me? You were talking about your beat the being in the Skillet. Remember three four weeks ago? You were talking about your baloney. Yes. Dr baloney, sir. Oh, I'm gonna have a big weekend. I may have to reheat pizza and fry some bologna in a Skillet. You remember the poster not, but it was back in the eighties. And it was Jackson taking a baseball bat cracking it over his knee. Oh, yes. Yes. He said, I think it said go. Yes, bono's. Yes. Yes. Oh, the Bo Jackson posters all of those. You know, the one I mentioned with the shoulder pads and the bad over his shoulder and the arms wrapped around the bad. You remember that one? All yeah. Oh, yeah. Oh, man. And wasn't it a Bengal that took go out of his football? Yes. It was. Oh, man. I could picture it. And I'm going to draw a blank on the name. He was chasing him down the sidelines in the Colosseum. Let's get a bug. Be somebody's going gonna tweet me with the answer. Keep listening. I'll come up with that name or to tell me by the end of them. There you go. Hey have a great weekend. All right. Thank you. Let me give you another one. I remember. Oh, this was this was almost life altering if you were a teenager the Kevin Walker. Thank you. Whoever called off air. Kevin walker. Yes. I knew that. I forgot that. Hey, what I forget things like that run down the sidelines big break away run grabbing for behind the hip came out. And then it led to the diagnosis. He had the the whatever it was the generative hip, it'd popped at popped back yet. And I still his birthday was last week. I think he's fifty six and I put together on the blog just a highlight reel and stuff of his career man that guy was just so like Paul Bunyan likes. So such a like a superstar who didn't even seem real like an action figure and do what he did. I mean in football and basketball you win the Heisman. And you play baseball star. Gave you go to the the the Pro Bowl and the average over five yards a carry and you have a hip replacement aid. You come back into your first game. After missing baseball, basic a euro baseball, you come back and eat a home run on opening day with a metal rod replacing your hip that was Bo Jackson. I'll never forget at Comiskey park. When Bo is coming back with the White Sox. He had a he had a media session before the season. Started is everybody wanted to see is this really going to happen is he really going to play baseball with a replaced hip, and he did kind of a showcase for the media underneath. I think it was underneath committee. Risky, and we were in a hallway, and he ran for the media with the newly replaced hip, and I will never forget, Bo. Running pass me going home. My goodness. We that's a human being. And he's he's got a new hip in artificial hip it. He's doing that. They went on opening day. And if I remember he had even promised his mom, and he did a home run. He hit a home run on opening day. And the highlights of him like running the alpha and after balls and running sideways along the wall to make the catch and the legendary throw run throwing out. I think it was Harold Reynolds. From the wall at the king dome on the fly, and man that guy you talk about larger than life. Bo Jackson was larger than life. As a teenager Farah Fawcett was also larger than life. You know what? Poster I'm talking about kind of turned sideways or knee bantered chin and right underneath the sign. Farah fawcett. Oh my goodness. I need a break. John Ryan, Keith and others. It's the off the beaten path topic for one more segment, we're calling it poster is d-. Oh, I remember twins on a poster not Minnesota Twins. I remember to blonde twins. I had on. Well. That's another story.."
