Listen: Lamar Jackson, Joe Flacco And John Harbaugh discussed on ESPN Radio
"Of golick and wingo on ESPN radio and the ESPN app. But the chargers gave it was so funny that was one shot of you'll Carson Wentz on the sidelines with the hat and things like really he's got to be thinking you really doing this against just amazing the had a couple of interceptions. Yep. And the the offense wasn't doing a whole lot. Again. It's a six three score at halftime. Third quarter seven play sixty three yard drive taken over four minutes and twenty seconds. And then when they needed it to score with under a minute to go. He has a twelve play sixty yard drive that eats up almost four minutes. I mean, that's where listen this has been a great defense all year. But that's the time you need to step up the most right? So you need to step up. And I heard people say no they didn't play that. Well, they only had one sack count sacked. It's ridiculous. There are more than sex or pressures are hit the ball fluttering a bit. There was a chance actually for a couple of more interceptions with the ball tipping in the air. But it's one thing that that defense, quite honestly, they will put it on themselves. They'll say, okay, we gave up two touchdown drives one with a, you know, on a four-minute-drive just about that ended with a minute to go everyone's going to say, and they're going to say rightfully so we need to we need to make a stop there. Kudos at eagles. For that drive at end is out of four. I mean what an exciting game. Yup. Down at fourth and two at the two yard line for the eagles fo- for both teams and the rollout passed to golden Tate. And then the big return and Chicago gets a feel for the wind chill. It was exciting from that standpoint is a great drive again by Nick foles and that lasts drive of the game. First of all, congratulations to the chargers. They were a twelve one team. You know, obviously. Honestly, they they had two more wins in the ravens. So you'd think they should wait even though they're considered the Baltimore was considered the four. So they'll move on. They again now we'll move onto the face the patriots in the divisional round first time they've been up there since the two thousand seven AFC championship game a game in which Philip rivers played that game with a tornado. So I'm curious to see how that plays out. We'll get into that match up as the weeknight recipes. But the Baltimore Ravens for most of that game. Look lost their first half on offense was atrocious. They had three fumbles through their first day plays at one point in the third quarter. They had as many points three as completed passes three and then Lamar Jackson got hot late. But there was a lot of talk about whether or not at some point in that game John Harbaugh with the offense absolutely struggling, and by the way, the ravens defense playing great. Now, they were I mean, they they kept them in that game bad field position. And they let them let lifted them to feel goals. They had a blocked punt. Or technically not a block punk is a win ten yards. Which is the dummy. It really is. Isn't it a partially blocked deflected? Whenever they call. It gets a block if it goes. Okay. Okay. Whatever. But they had a blocked field goal. They had a blocked punt. They kept him in that. Game. And you wanted at some point would the ravens go back to Joe flacco, who of course, had one of the greatest postseason runs ever in twenty the twenty twelve postseason in January and February two thousand thirteen twelve touchdown passes no interceptions on the way to winning Super Bowl forty seven and John Harbaugh. The ravens head coach admitted after the game or alluded to it. They talked about it. But they decided they weren't going to go there. I mean, the Mars are quarterback going forward is no question about that. Joe flacco is going to play really well in this league Joe can still play. I think we saw that the first half of the season. Joe is going to have a market going to be a lot of teams are going to want Joe because they understand that. And I'll I'll be I'll be Joe's corner wherever he's at you know, let's plan. So to me them sticking with Lamar Jackson told me two things one that they felt like even as bad as he was playing. They felt he might give them the best chance to win. And you can certainly argue that was not the case. But Mike to meet the other thing was John Harbaugh. Does not have that contract extension signed sealed and delivered yet. But he coached that game as if the contract extension. Well, listen, I tweeted out I said you get halfway through the fourth quarter scores the same. I'm I'm going to Joe flacco, and they left Lamar in any through better. Now, again, San Diego's back in more of a prevent defense passers, but still he ends up throwing a thirty one yard touchdown pass with six minutes ago. And then get another touchdown and they get the ball back. Right. They get the ball back with with a chance. To win. And he gets it. You know, the ball. Lamar Jackson gets it knocked out of his hand again. But I I would have had no problem if they went back to Joe flacco, I am sick and tired of here. And if you want to say stay with Lamar that's fine. But if you give me that reason, oh, you don't wanna lose the guy. You know, if you pull them what does that mean, you're gonna lose them? Well, let me tell you. What if I pull somebody, and I lose them, mentally did I really want them Grammy. Gimme a break. Do we really think that if Joe flacco went in there won or lost or even one and played? Well, Lamar Jackson is still the quarterback going forward. That's not going to change. Do we think Lamar Jackson would have been done mentally? I mean, give me give their kid a little more credit than that that football, man. Sometimes you're doing well, sometimes you're not in this big boy business here in the NFL. This is the playoffs. There are fifty two other guys in that locker room. If you gotta make that move to win and move on. So one game season, you do it. So they didn't. And they got to within. Score and Lamar made some nice rose, which is fine. My only issue was anybody. That's sitting there saying you don't wanna lose the guy. I think that is gar Bosch. Yeah. I really really get tired of that argument. No, I'm with you one hundred percent. I just I just to me the the only thing that Ryan Clark and are actually talking about it. If you go to flacco at that point, forget, the are you losing Lamar Jackson, basically, everything you practice all week goes out the window because your entire game plan for Lamar Jackson is completely different than it is what you wanna do. But it's not like flacco has never played with these guys. So and for those that are saying, oh, look how many times, you know, Lamar got sacked seven times you think flacco could've. All right. Listen Lamar is a young quarterback who will learn to pass better. I don't think there's any doubt about it. But he holds the ball too long. He gets knowledge it hold the wall to wall you'll to to eight he does it out there. Like Aliko would be more on timing route together. Listen, we're never going to know. But I don't just want to hear the argument while he was sacked seven times. So flacco witness gate that completely different with a quarterback that throws a little more on rhythm. What flak coming in one the game? Listen, I have no idea. But one thing I would not have been afraid to do is make the change. If you think it's going to help you win because I think I give Lamar Jackson a little more credit than some people who might say. Oh, you don't wanna lose that guy? Calm. I don't think that was part of it. I think they will genuinely thought in what they were facing with the pressure especially that was coming from Ingram and Bosa that as bad as he was playing his escape. Billy might have given them the best I can understand. But but to your point about him going forward, they're going to have to change the way this offense for Baltimore. We had always said, you know, let Lamar keep doing was averaging seventeen eighteen yards. A carry our carries a game. Which again, there's no way that can be sustainable, but you let them do that for this year. And then you continue to have them grow, which he will. I love watching him play love it. But Anthony Lynn is right. You know, you're going to figure that out and you're going to contain him a little bit more.."
