Listen: President Trump, Charlotte, Pat Mccrory discussed on WBT's Morning News w/ Bo Thompson
"Response. President Trump just finished his first Oval Office address to the nation in a very concise strong manner. He quickly explained exactly the seriousness of illegal immigration coming across the southern border regarding drug trafficking, regarding human trafficking, regarded illegal supplies and other areas that are entering our country impacting, not just California or Arizona or New Mexico or Texas, but I'm telling you right now is a former mayor of Charlotte at governor of the ninth largest state in the United States of America, North Carolina. The legal immigration issue is impacting, Charlotte and North Carolina. The president get didn't get to address all the issues beyond the border, but I will because right here in Charlotte and throughout North Carolina. We have human trafficking. We have illegal drug trade, primarily black tar heroin wishes killing thousands of our fellow citizens of all ages. And sadly, we have a lot of illegal workers that are bringing down wages of the middle class who desperately need higher wages now. More than ever. This is a serious problem. If we do not control our borders, whether it be candidate at our ports at the Mexico border. Our country is in serious problems. And our president is finally addressing this issue up front to all the American people from the Oval Office. Now is this worth a government shutdown? It should have been handled way back in the Reagan administration during the last major compromise regarding illegal immigration, but since that compromise we continue to have thousands upon thousands of people enter our country illegally impacting our schools impacting our hospitals impacting our social service system and yes impacting crime right here in Charlotte Mecklenburg. It's time. We address this issue. It's time to quit saying it's not a crisis because it has been an ongoing crisis. And we've got to address it. And now is the time I agree with the president of the United States that we must have a secure border not just at the Mexican border. But also right here at Charlotte, Douglas international airport, where we have a customs which I went through coming from Mexico just two days ago. I had to show my passport I had to fill out forms in which I had to promise I did promise that I did not bring any legal food illegal drugs. And then I was coming here legally as a US citizen that should be expected of everyone coming into our country like other countries expected of us. It was good news that the president's remaining standing firm now we need to continue to express the truth of really the impact of illegal. Immigration on our country that mccrory reacting last night moments after the president gave his address is I ever address from the Oval Office in primetime regarding the the border crisis.
