Amy Kennedy wins New Jersey Democratic primary, will face party defector turned Trump loyalist

Jamie Kennedy will try to unseat an incumbent who recently defected to the Republican Party. Kennedy was a middle school teacher and is the wife of former congressman Patrick Kennedy, the son of Ted Kennedy. She faced opposition from some party leaders and local progressives in the race. But she also had the endorsement of New Jersey's Democratic governor, Phil Murphy. Kennedy will go up against first term Congressman Jeff Van Drew in the fall, then drew one the seat as a Democrat in 2018 But Late last year, he announced during an Oval Office press conference that he was becoming a Republican president. Trump endorsed Van Drew and praised him during a January rally in the South Jersey
