Search for life on other worlds tops astronomy to-do list

US astronomers put the search for extraterrestrial life at the top of their to do list for the next ten years I'm Ben Thomas with details a survey by the National Academy of sciences finds astronomers stressed the need to continue hunting for potentially habitable planets orbiting other stars they say the coming decades will set humanity down a path to determine whether we are alone the report explains life on earth may be the result of a common process or it may require such an unusual set of circumstances that we are the only living beings within our part of the galaxy or even the universe either answer is profound also ranking highly in the survey exploring the origins and evolution of black holes galaxies and the entire universe the report also encourages greater diversity among science teams I'm Ben Thomas
