Listen: iOS 12.1 beta 1 is available for public beta testers
"Apple has released twelve in watch OS five. I'm gonna talk about some of my first impressions on those little bit later in the show. But interestingly, real quickly after that launch, apple also did ship out the first beta version of, I o. s. twelve point one, two developers. It has a couple of items of note. First of all, group FaceTime appears to be back in the beta. That was something that was promised as part of Iowa's twelve. It was in some of the early betas for Iowa, twelve, but then kinda pull the last minute by apple. We don't really know why it now does appear to be back in the twelve point one up date. So that's a good sign that maybe that's rolling forward and maybe we'll get that relatively soon. Few other things that are being discovered inside the beta that seemed to indicate future enhancements. There are hints of landscape support for face ide-. Leading to a lot of speculation or additional speculation really that they knew ipad pros with face ID are still coming. I don't think we really doubted that we're expecting some sort of October announcement. The discovery of the landscape support comes from developer, Steven Troughton or Steve trodden Smith. Excuse me. He has relied leaked information in the past. He says the feature requires a realignment of the front facing sensors though, so don't expect support for the iphone ten s max, which does have some of the landscape features like with a tennis max. You can do the side by side applications in landscape mode. So it would make sense for face ID work on a tennis max in landscape. But it sounds like you'd need some tweaking to the front facing sensors in apple hasn't done that. So this may be an ipad pro exclusive feature. Something else that I noticed just as an. Aside with my with my iphone tennis that I'd never noticed before, and I think it was probably like this with the iphone ten is face ID the the race to wake feature, rather of the iphone does not work if you have the iphone upside down. So if you've got oriented where the little home indicator bar is at the top of the description, then it's not going to work with race to wake. Steve also says that the ipad code seems to care a lot more about whether or not you have an external display connected. And he speculates that this might be an indicator of USB see support coming further backing that up. He discovered that the Iowa simulator in x. code shows support for an external four k. display something that's not possible with the current lightning to HDMI adapter. And so that would again be further evidence that maybe. Apple is going to a USB connector, which would have more display interaction and display support. As a matter of fact, if you remember Ming cheek quo had commented in the past that apple may actually switch to a USB connector in the ipad pro this year. And he also believed that apple would ship in eighteen watt power adapter for faster charging in that would have USB support as well. So we'll have to wait and see, but this may be a device that does get USB see, although we did expect that possibly with the new, the new iphones this year. And of course they still have the standard lightning connector. So we'll have to see that just one other thing in the IRS twelve beta. One of note there does appear to be memo g sinking over I cloud."
